Abstract Diguo (Ficus tikoua Bur.), an ancient wild fruit, is widely spread in southwest China. However, there is little information on the phenotypic traits, quality characteristics, and aroma compounds available to diguo fruit. The present study is an investigation into the effects of geographical origin on the phenotypic traits and quality characteristics of wild diguo fruit collected from southwest China. The volatile compounds in the mixed fruit samples were also investigated using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Our results indicated that significant variation existed among the sampling materials in all the phenotypic parameters. Fruit fresh weight ranged between 2.06 and 4.59 g. Moreover, significant variation existed among the selected materials in all macronutrients (dry matter, total soluble solids, crude protein, crude fat, and ash) and some nutritional parameters (glutamate, arginine, total soluble solids, maltose, and mannose, etc.). Regardless of their geographical origin, diguo fruit is relatively low in fat and fructose and high in fiber and glutamate. A total of 95 volatile constituents were identified in the frozen diguo fruit. In conclusion, diguo fruit with rich nutritional attributes has a promising future for commercial‐scale production. The variability of the observed morphological and nutritional features of diguo fruit provides important characteristics for improving the breeding of diguo as a modern fruit crop.

Abstract The fast booming of wearable electronics provides great opportunities for intelligent gas detection with improved healthcare of mining workers, and a variety of gas sensors have been simultaneously developed. However, these sensing systems are always limited to single gas detection and are highly susceptible to the inference of ubiquitous moisture, resulting in less accuracy in the analysis of gas compositions in real mining conditions. To address these challenges, we propose a synergistic strategy based on sensor integration and machine learning algorithms to realize precise NH3 and NO2 gas detections under real mining conditions. A wearable sensing array based on the graphene and polyaniline composite is developed to largely enhance the sensitivity and selectivity under mixed gas conditions. Further introduction of backpropagation neural network (BP‐NN) and partial least squares (PLS) algorithms could improve the accuracy of gas identification and concentration prediction and settle the inference of moisture, realizing over 99% theoretical prediction level on NH3 and NO2 concentrations within a wide relative humidity range, showing great promise in real mining detection. As proof of concept, a wireless wearable bracelet, integrated with sensing arrays and machine‐learning algorithms, is developed for wireless real‐time warning of hazardous gases in mines under different humidity conditions.

Abstract The collective total syntheses of (±)‐hosieines A–C with a cage‐like tetracyclic framework have been realized, which includes the first syntheses of hosieines B‐C. The key strategy of the synthesis employs a one‐pot domino reaction that involves Cu‐catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition, 1,6‐enone formation, and 1,6‐aza‐Michael addition forming the 5/6/6‐aza‐tricyclic skeleton. Other salient synthetic tactics comprise a challenging double bond migration and a 1,4‐aza‐Michael addition reaction to afford the tetracyclic framework.

Abstract Objective Connexin 43 (Cx43) is a critical gene for maintaining myocardial homeostasis. Interestingly, Cx43 and stress‐induced phosphoprotein 1 (STIP1) were recorded to be lowly expressed in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). However, their impacts on reperfusion arrhythmia (RA) remain to be explored. Our study aimed to find out the related underlying mechanisms. Methods After the establishment of an isolated heart model through Langendorff perfusion, the heart rate, conduction activation time, conduction velocity, and conduction direction of the left ventricle were evaluated, along with the apoptotic rate detection in the collected myocardial tissues. After the construction of a hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)‐induced cellular model, cell apoptosis, intercellular communication, cell viability, and the content of reactive oxygen species, superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, and lactic dehydrogenase were measured. The expression of Cx43 and STIP1 was determined in both rat heart and cell models. The bindings of STIP3 and Cx43 to heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) were verified. Results Relative to the corresponding controls, Cx43 and STIP1 were decreased in myocardial tissues of RA rats and H/R‐stimulated H9C2 cells, where Cx43‐binding HSP70 and HSP90 were respectively increased and decreased, and ubiquitination level of Cx43 was enhanced. STIP1 overexpression promoted protein expression of Cx43, intercellular communication, and cell viability, and reduced cell apoptosis and oxidative stress in H/R‐stimulated H9C2 cells. Conclusion STIP1 promoted Cx43 expression to improve intercellular communication and reduce oxidative stress in H/R‐stimulated H9C2 cells.

Abstract Ixazomib‐lenalidomide‐dexamethasone (ixazomib‐Rd) showed clinical efficacy over placebo‐Rd in patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (MM) in the TOURMALINE‐MM1 trial. Over a median follow‐up of ∼85 months, as patients showed disease progression, they received subsequent novel therapies that confounded the overall survival (OS) benefit. Here, we conducted a post hoc analysis in 148 patients from seven countries defined as emerging markets, with limited access to novel therapies for MM during the trial period, to describe the impact of these therapies on OS. Patients were randomised to ixazomib‐Rd (n = 71) or placebo‐Rd (n = 77). The median progression‐free survival (PFS) was 18.7 versus 10.2 months, with ixazomib‐Rd versus placebo‐Rd (hazard ratio [HR], 0.504; p = 0.008) demonstrating a statistically significant improvement as observed in the primary trial. The median OS improved by 32.6 months with ixazomib‐Rd over placebo‐Rd (63.5 vs. 30.9 months; HR, 0.794; p = 0.261); however, the statistically significant benefit seen in PFS was not observed for OS. Improvement with ixazomib‐Rd over placebo‐Rd was observed in overall response (81.7% vs. 64.9%; odds ratio [OR], 2.38; p = 0.019) and complete response (22.5% vs. 3.9%; OR, 7.57; p < 0.001). Patient‐reported quality of life and use of subsequent therapies were similar across treatment groups. No new safety concerns were identified. Compared with the main cohort, median OS was 10 months longer with ixazomib‐Rd and 21 months shorter with placebo‐Rd in this subgroup, indicating a clinically meaningful survival benefit of ixazomib‐Rd treatment in this patient population with limited access to subsequent novel therapies.

Objective To compare the clinical effects of cervical decompression first, lumbar decompression first, or simultaneous decompression of both lesions in the treatment of tandem spinal stenosis (TSS). Methods This is a retrospective analysis. From January 2013 to December 2018, 51 TSS patients underwent our surgery and postoperative investigation. Among the 51 subjects, 27 females and 24 males, aged 49–77 years with an average age of 66.3 ± 6.8, were selected. According to the different operation sequences, all patients were divided into three groups. In simultaneous operation group, five patients underwent cervical and lumbar vertebrae surgery at the same time. In first cervical surgery group, 28 patients underwent cervical vertebra surgery first, followed by lumbar spine surgery after a period of recovery. And in first lumbar surgery group, 18 patients underwent lumbar vertebrae surgery first. The choice for neck surgery is posterior cervical single‐door vertebroplasty, the surgery of lumber is plate excision and decompression needle‐rod system internal fixation. The outcome measures are visual analogue scale (VAS), Japanese Orthopaedic Association cervical (JOA‐C) and lumbar (JOA‐L) scores, which were assessed at 3 months and 1 year after the operation by telephone interview. In addition, operative time, estimated blood loss, and hospital stay were also recorded. Results All the patients in the study had surgery performed successfully by the same group of orthopaedic surgeons. The preoperative VAS scores of simultaneous operation group, first cervical surgery group, and first lumbar surgery group were 8.00 ± 1.00, 8.36 ± 0.68, and 8.17 ± 0.71 (P > 0.05). The preoperative JOA‐C scores were 7.00 ± 2.35, 6.54 ± 1.53, and 7.83 ± 1.04 (P 0.05), and the JOA‐L improvement rates were 80.04% ± 3.35%, 81.65% ± 3.74%, and 80.21% ± 4.76% (P > 0.05). The difference among them was not statistically significant. In addition, operation time (OP), blood loss (BL), and hospital stay (HS) in the simultaneous operation group were 245.00 ± 5.00 min, 480.00 ± 27.39 mL, and 16.60 ± 0.55 days, respectively. While those parameters in the first cervical surgery group were 342.50 ± 18.18 min, 528.21 ± 43.97 mL, and 22.75 ± 2.15 days, and in the first lumbar surgery group they were 346.11 ± 24.77 min, 519.44 ± 43.99 mL, and 22.89 ± 1.64 days. Abstract Prenatal diagnosis of trisomy 20p seems to be difficult, considering the capacity of ultrasound to detect mild dysmorphic. NIPT has good performance in detecting fetal trisomy 20p combined with low coverage WGS and karyotype analysis.

Myocardial infarction (MI) permanently damages cardiac tissue. Tissue engineering exhibits tremendous potential as a strategy for developing engineered tissue to repair congenital abnormalities in the heart and/or cardiovascular tissue. Electroconductive hydrogels (EHs) are prepared from synthetic or natural biodegradable polymers and conductive components that could partially restore the myocardial/ventricular electromechanical coupling and synchronized heartbeats. Also, EHs are ideal materials for the preparation of cell culture and induction carriers, engineered scaffolds, and patches, as well as cell and gene delivery carriers, all of which aid in tissue formation. Except for a brief introduction to the classification and synthesis of EHs, this review discussed the recent progress and challenges of EHs applied in cardiac repair and regeneration to provide a reference for the further application of EHs in treating cardiovascular diseases. Abstract Background Pemetrexed and bevacizumab as monotherapies, or in combination, have been approved for maintenance therapy following platinum‐based induction in patients with advanced nonsquamous non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The differences in the benefits of bevacizumab for treatment during early or late NSCLC have not yet been characterized. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data from 35 patients with advanced naïve NSCLC who had received pemetrexed/platinum with or without bevacizumab followed by maintenance therapy with pemetrexed alone or pemetrexed plus bevacizumab. The data were analyzed using the Kaplan‐Meier method and Cox regression adjusted for risk factors. Patients were grouped according to treatment conditions. Group A received pemetrexed plus platinum followed by pemetrexed alone (Pem‐Pt/Pem). Group B received pemetrexed plus platinum followed by pemetrexed and bevacizumab (Group B; Pem‐Pt/Pem + Bev). Group C received pemetrexed, platinum, and bevacizumab during induction therapy, and pemetrexed as maintenance therapy (Group C; Pem‐Pt + Bev/Pem + Bev). We assessed the significance of introduction of bevacizumab at different stages of treatment. Results A total of 13 (37.1%) patients were included in Group A, nine patients (25.7%) were included in Group B, and 13 patients (37.1%) were included in Group C. Among the 35 patients, 69.2% were male, and the median age was 59 years (range 40–75). The median progression‐free survival (PFS) was 7.7 months (231 days, range 134–410 days) in Group A, 9.3 months (280 days, range 84–565 days) in Group B, and 8.0 months (241 days, range 108–665 days) in Group C. The median PFS was not significantly different among the three groups (P = 0.233). Similarly, bevacizumab did not significantly affect PFS (P = 0.630). Conclusions The addition of bevacizumab into induction chemotherapy or maintenance therapy provided limited benefits to PFS in our study, but previous studies suggested that bevacizumab may improve disease control. In that way, we presume that early use of bevacizumab may provide a greater benefit.

Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the long term effects of posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), applied after recurrent lumbar disc herniation (rLDH), on pain relief and clinical outcome improvement. Methods The current study is a retrospective study. We observed 22 cases from 85 patients that had undergone PLIF during February 2003 to October 2012 and all patients were followed for at least 5 years. The average age of those patients were 53 years, among them there were eight men and 14 women. Plain radiography and dynamic plain films were obtained, pre‐operation, for every patient. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) was conducted to confirm the diagnosis of rLDH before the operation. All surgeries were performed from posterior approach by the same surgeon using PLIF. Quality of life (QOL) and clinical outcomes were assessed by Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scoring system, and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) before revision surgery and at 1 week, 3 months, 12 months, and 24 months postoperative. These were also examined every time they came back to the hospital for a review. Results All patients were discharged and no serious comorbidities occurred. Three cases with wound infections and one case with dural laceration were cured and discharged. The end point of follow‐up was August 2018 and the mean follow‐up after revision surgery was 85 months. There were significant differences in NRS. It decreased from 7.32 ± 1.17 to 2.77 ± 1.31 (P 0.05) in ODI scores. The average JOA score improved from 5.00 ± 1.08 to 8.18 ± 1.59 (P

Abstract Aim Observed effects of exercise are highly variable between individuals, and subject‐by‐training interaction (i.e., individual response variability) is often not estimated. Here, we measured mitochondrial (citrate synthetase, cytochrome‐c oxidase, succinate dehydrogenase, and mitochondrial copy‐number), performance markers (Wpeak, lactate threshold [LT], and VO2peak), and fiber type proportions/expression (type I, type IIa, and type IIx) in multiple time points during 12‐week of high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) to investigate effects of exercise at the individual level. Methods Sixteen young (age: 33.1 ± 9.0 years), healthy men (VO2peak 35–60 ml/min/kg and BMI: 26.4 ± 4.2) from the Gene SMART study completed 12‐week of progressive HIIT. Performance markers and muscle biopsies were collected every 4 weeks. We used mixed‐models and bivariate growth models to quantify individual response and to estimate correlations between variables. Results All performance markers exhibited significant (Wpeak 0.56 ± 0.33 p = 0.003, LT 0.37 ± 0.35 p = 0.007, VO2peak 3.81 ± 6.13 p = 0.02) increases overtime, with subject‐by‐training interaction being present (95% CI: Wpeak 0.09–0.24, LT 0.06–0.18, VO2peak 0.27–2.32). Bone tissue engineering-based therapy for bone lesions requires the expansion of seeding cells, such as autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). A major obstacle to this process is the loss of the phenotype and differentiation capacity of MSCs subjected to passage. Recent studies have suggested that primary cilia, primordial organelles that transduce multiple signals, particularly hedgehog signals, play a role in senescence. Therefore, we explored the relationships among senescence, primary cilia, and hedgehog signaling in MSCs. Ageing of MSCs by expansion in vitro was accompanied by increased cell doubling time. The osteogenic capacity of aged MSCs at passage 4 was compromised compared to that of primary cells. P4 MSCs exhibited reductions in the frequency and length of primary cilia associated with decreased intensity of Arl13b staining on cilia. Senescence also resulted in downregulation of the expression of hedgehog components and CDKN2A. Suppression of ciliogenesis reduced the gene expression of both Gli1, a key molecule in the hedgehog signaling pathway and ALP, a marker of osteoblastic differentiation. This study demonstrated that the senescence of MSCs induced the loss of osteoblastic differentiation potency and inactivated hedgehog signaling associated with attenuated ciliogenesis, indicating that primary cilia play a mediating role in and are biomarkers of MSC senescence; thus, future antisenescence strategies involving manipulation of primary cilia could be developed.

Optimizing to increase the utilization ratio of regenerative braking energy reduces energy consumption, and can be done without increasing the deviation of train running time in one circle. The latter entails that the train timetable is upheld, which guarantees that the demand for passenger transport services is met and the quality of services in the urban rail transit system is maintained. This study proposes a multi-objective optimization model for urban railways with timetable optimization to minimize the total energy consumption of trains while maximizing the quality of service. To this end, we apply the principles and ideas of calculus to reduce the power of the velocity in the train energy consumption model. This greatly simplifies the complexity of the optimization model. Then, considering the conflicting requirements of decision-makers, weight factors are added to the objective functions to reflect decision-makers’ preferences for energy-saving and the quality of service. We adopt the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) to solve the proposed model. A practical case study of the Yizhuang urban railway line in Beijing is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and evaluate the advantages of the optimal energy saving timetable (OEST) in comparison to the optimal quality of service timetable (OQOST). The results showed that the OEST reduced total energy consumption by 8.72% but increased the deviation of trains running time in one circle by 728 s. The total energy consumption was reduced by 6.09%, but there was no increase in the deviation of train running time in one circle with the OQOST.

In some cases, we hope to remove the electrospun nanofibrous mesh from the collector easily. But in some cases such as wound dressing, we observe that the in situ electrospun nanofibers can stick to the collector (e.g., skin). Therefore, the adhesion between the in situ electrospun web and the substrate becomes important in the performance and practical application of the electrospun material. In this paper, we reported a direct pulling method to measure the adhesion and understand the adhesion mechanism. In this method, we used gravity to pull the fiber directly from the substrate and then measured the gravity to calculate the adhesion. This new test method is more convenient and practical than the previously reported methods. In addition, the adhesion of the in situ electrospun web on different substrates (e.g., aluminium foil, wood pulp paper, and silicon paper) was also studied by this method. The adhesion was influenced by spinning voltage, electrical conductivity, and surface roughness of the substrates.

Train platforming is critical for ensuring the safety and efficiency of train operations within the stations, especially when unexpected train delays occur. This paper studies the problem of reoptimization of train platforming in case of train delays, where the train station is modeled using the discretization of the platform track time-space resources. To solve the reoptimization problem, we propose a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model, which minimizes the weighted sum of total train delays and the platform track assignment costs, subject to constraints defined by operational requirements. Moreover, we design an efficient heuristic algorithm to solve the MILP model such that it can speed up the reoptimization process with good solution precision. Furthermore, a real-world case is taken as an example to show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm. The computational results show that the MILP model established in this paper can describe the reoptimization of train platforming accurately, and it can be solved quickly by the proposed heuristic algorithm. In addition, the model and algorithm developed in this paper can provide an effective computer-aided decision-making tool for the train dispatchers in case of train delays.

The evaluation of the railway operation safety situation is important for managers to ensure transportation safety and make control decisions. In this study, first, six situation indicators are designed from a regional perspective based on the characteristics of railway operation accidents, and the quantitative methods of these indicators are determined. Second, an improved technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method is developed to evaluate the railway operation safety situation against the situation indicators. Based on the set-pair analysis (SPA) theory and cosine similarity measure (CSM), the comprehensive evaluation values and rankings of the safety situation are first calculated from the distance and trend levels for each period. Game theory is then employed to determine a more reasonable combined weight, and the values of the parameters involved in the situation indicators are also estimated. The real-life statistical accident data in a regional area of China from 2016 to 2018 are chosen as a case study to verify the proposed method. A brief analysis is conducted, resulting in suggestions for the evaluation results. Two groups of comparative experiments are designed to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. Finally, the quality of the evaluation results is verified through actual conditions and expert scoring. Some extensions and potential practical applications of this work are discussed.

Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) message reflects the transmission of information between many intelligent electronic devices, which is more reliable as original data. The communication Ethernet opaque also leads to a big problem of information extraction analysis, limiting the development of state maintenance and other techniques. This study describes the process equipment and the network transmission technology of the intelligent substation and analyses the specified message format of IEC61850. The study then compares it with the characteristics of the typical intelligent substation message and gives the analysis method and the meaning of each byte in the actual message frame, making the communication network in the process layer more transparent and giving a clear direction of information acquisitions and analysis. It also provides some reference meanings to the intelligent substation communication and the equipment status analysis.

The photoelectric conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cells is mainly affected by temperature and irradiance. In order to promote the development of photovoltaic power generation, it is necessary to improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cells. This paper combines two major factors that affect photovoltaic cells, a maximum power point tracking scheme based on large variation GA-RBF network is proposed. The system used in this scheme is simulated through Matlab. The simulation results show that the new maximum power point tracking scheme has higher accuracy and rapidity, the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the photovoltaic cell is greatly improved.

Surface wettability of a film plays a critical role in its practical applications. To control the surface wettability, modification on the physical surface structures has been a useful method. In this paper, we reported the controlling physical surface structure of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) films by different film-forming methods, spin-coating, bar-coating, and electrospinning. The wettability of these PVB films was examined, and the surface morphologies and roughness were investigated. The results indicated that coating PVB films were hydrophilic, while electrospun films were hydrophobic. The physical surface structure was the key role on the interesting transition of their surface wettability. Theoretical analyses on these results found that the coating PVB films showed different mechanism with electrospun ones. These results may help to find the way to control the PVB film surface wettability and then guide for applications.

The DMT1 gene encodes divalent metal transporter 1, a membrane iron transport protein. Divalent metal transporter 1 influences cellular iron availability, which might further affect aerobic exercise capacity. Short tandem repeat (STR) polymorphisms have been used as genetic markers in the literature, yet the STR polymorphisms of the DMT1 gene have not been well studied. In this current study, we explored the polymorphisms of the DMT1 gene in a group of elite long-distance runners and controls, by using the PCR-RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) and Gene scan technology. We found that the genotype frequency of the homozygous 258 bp STR polymorphism of the DMT1 gene (258 bp/258 bp) was significantly higher in the athlete group than in the controls (χ2=14.01, p=0.006) so does the allele frequency of the 258 bp STR polymorphism (χ2=12.867, p=0.008). These data suggested that the STR polymorphism of the DMT1 gene might be correlated with aerobic exercise capacity and the 258 bp homozygous (25 bp/258 bp) could be used as a molecular marker for the talent identification of elite long-distance runners.

In order to solve the problem of low strength and easy cracking of shotcrete in permanent support of tunnel single shell lining, the effects of steel fiber-reinforced siliceous on mechanical properties of wet shotcrete were investigated by the tests of compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, shear strength, and bending toughness. The strength and the cracking resistance mechanism of steel fiber-reinforced siliceous wet shotcrete were analyzed by the bending toughness evaluation method. The results show that (1) the steel fiber-reinforced siliceous can improve splitting tensile, flexural, and shear capacity of the shotcrete, and the maximum growth rates were 77.42%, 72.73%, and 98.31%. The steel fiber plays a major role, and silica fume plays a subsidiarity role. (2) The effect of different types and contents of steel fibers on the compressive strength of wet shotcrete are not obvious. (3) The strengthening effect of shear undaform steel fiber on concrete is obviously better than that of shear flat steel fiber. (4) The flexural toughness of wet shotcrete with the silica content of 10% and the shear steel fiber of 60 kg/m3 is the best.

High-speed video images of 24 downward negative lightning flashes terminating on tall structures in Guangzhou are selected to analyse the connecting behaviour of the downward and upward leaders during the attachment process preceding the first return stroke. Three types of leader connecting behaviour have been observed: Type I, the tip of downward leader (DL) to the tip of upward connecting leader (UCL), which accounts for 42% of all the events (10/24); Type II, the DL's tip to the lateral surface of UCL, which accounts for 50% (12/24); and Type III, the combination of Types I and II, which accounts for 8% (2/24). For the two cases of Type III behaviour, each case had two junction points (one with Type I and the other with Type II behaviour) between the downward and upward leaders. Therefore, Types I and II can be viewed as the two basic types of the leader connecting behaviour during the attachment process in negative lightning. No attachment process exhibited the connection of the UCL's tip to the lateral surface of DL. The presence of multiple DL branches and their integrated effect on the development of positive UCL/UCLs are likely to be the main reasons for the Type II behaviour.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PEDOT:PSS/PVP) composite nanofibers were successfully fabricated via electrospinning and used as a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor for detecting CO gas. The electrical property of individual PEDOT:PSS/PVP nanofibers was characterized and the room temperature resistivity was at the magnitude of 105 Ω·m. The QCM sensor based on PEDOT:PSS/PVP nanofibers was sensitive to low concentration (5–50 ppm) CO. In the range of 5–50 ppm CO, the relationship between the response of PEDOT:PSS nanofibers and the CO concentration was linear. Nevertheless, when the concentration exceeded 50 ppm, the adsorption of the nanofiber membrane for CO gas reached saturation and the resonant frequency range had no change. Therefore, the results open an approach to create electrospun PEDOT:PSS/PVP for gas sensing applications.
