Abstract Objective Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in patients with large infarct volume remains controversial. The aim of this study is to compare clinical outcomes between EVT and medical management in acute large vessel occlusion with infarct volumes larger than 70 mL on diffusion‐weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI). Methods A prospective observational cohort study was conducted, including patients with anterior cerebral circulation occlusion due to ischemic stroke with infarct volumes larger than 70 mL within 24 h of onset between July 2018 and June 2023. Eligible patients were divided into two groups: the EVT group and the medical management (non‐EVT) group. The main outcomes were functional independence and mortality at 90 days. To assess clinical endpoints, we selected variables including age, NIHSS score, infarct volume, and occlusion location for 1:1 propensity score (PS) matching and PS adjustment using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Results Among the 131 identified patients (mean [SD] age, 69.9 [13.7] years; 58 female), the median infarct volume was 123.6 mL. Of these patients, 75 (57.3%) underwent EVT. After PS adjustment, EVT was not associated with functional independence (10.9% vs. 10.9%; p = 1.000) or mortality (43.5% vs. 47.8%; p = 0.675). Additionally, after PS adjustment using IPTW, EVT was also not associated with a functional independence (15.8% vs. 13.7%; p = 0.767) or mortality (46.8% vs. 44.0%; p = 0.762). Conclusion This study provides real‐world evidence regarding infarct volumes larger than 70 mL, indicating that EVT does not provide benefits compared to medical management alone when considering age, NIHSS score, infarct volume, and occlusion location.

Abstract To address the problem of pillar instability in residual mining areas under repeated mining disturbances, the prediction of pillar instability time and mining technology is studied by using numerical simulations, theoretical examinations, and practical experimentation techniques utilizing the remaining facade of the Shenghua Coal Industry 3103. On the basis of the findings, employing a fully mechanized mining technique exerts greater pressure on the coal pillar, increasing the likelihood of plastic failure. However, adopting the segmental filling mining approach can effectively disperse this pressure, consequently mitigating potential damage to the coal pillar. Initially, the coal pillar undergoes a progressive yielding or collapsing process at its periphery, leading to instability once the area of the projectile core of the coal pillar decreases beyond a specific threshold. The dimensions of both the affected roadway and the coal pillar play a pivotal role in determining the coal pillar's load‐bearing capacity. A prediction model for pillar instability is established. If the area of the projectile core is less than 34% during remining, the mining method should be changed or pillar reinforcement should be implemented. The accurate prediction and adaptation of the model's mining approach ensure the secure extraction of coal pillars within the remaining mining region, with successful validation of the model's performance.

Abstract Immunosuppression is a major hallmark of tumor progression in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Cluster of differentiation 147 (CD147), an important pro‐tumorigenic factor, is closely linked to NSCLC immunosuppression. However, the role of CD147 di‐methylation in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) remains unclear. Here, di‐methylation of CD147 at Lys148 (CD147‐K148me2) is identified as a common post‐translational modification (PTM) in NSCLC that is significantly associated with unsatisfying survival outcomes among NSCLC sufferers, especially those in the advanced stages of the disease. The methyltransferase NSD2 catalyzes CD147 to generate CD147‐K148me2. Further analysis demonstrates that CD147‐K148me2 reestablishes the immunosuppressive TME and promotes NSCLC progression. Mechanistically, this modification promotes the interaction between cyclophilin A (CyPA) and CD147, and in turn, increases CCL5 gene transcription by activating p38‐ZBTB32 signaling, leading to increased NSCLC cell‐derived CCL5 secretion. Subsequently, CD147‐K148me2‐mediated CCL5 upregulation facilitates M2‐like tumor‐associated macrophage (TAM) infiltration in NSCLC tissues via CCL5/CCR5 axis‐dependent intercellular crosstalk between tumor cells and macrophages, which is inhibited by blocking CD147‐K148me2 with the targeted antibody 12C8. Overall, this study reveals the role of CD147‐K148me2‐driven intercellular crosstalk in the development of NSCLC immunosuppression, and provides a potential interventional strategy for PTM‐targeted NSCLC therapy.

Abstract Intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) of bladder cancer (BLCA) contributes to therapy resistance and immune evasion affecting clinical prognosis. The molecular and cellular mechanisms contributing to BLCA ITH generation remain elusive. It is found that a TM4SF1‐positive cancer subpopulation (TPCS) can generate ITH in BLCA, evidenced by integrative single cell atlas analysis. Extensive profiling of the epigenome and transcriptome of all stages of BLCA revealed their evolutionary trajectories. Distinct ancestor cells gave rise to low‐grade noninvasive and high‐grade invasive BLCA. Epigenome reprograming led to transcriptional heterogeneity in BLCA. During early oncogenesis, epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition generated TPCS. TPCS has stem‐cell‐like properties and exhibited transcriptional plasticity, priming the development of transcriptionally heterogeneous descendent cell lineages. Moreover, TPCS prevalence in tumor is associated with advanced stage cancer and poor prognosis. The results of this study suggested that bladder cancer interacts with its environment by acquiring a stem cell‐like epigenomic landscape, which might generate ITH without additional genetic diversification.

Abstract According to the latest evidence, the microbial metabolite Urolithin A (UA), known for its role in promoting cellular health, modulates CD8+ T cell‐mediated antitumor activity. However, the direct target protein of UA and its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, this research identifies ERK1/2 as the specific target crucial for UA‐mediated CD8+ T cell activation. Even at low doses, UA markedly enhances the persistence and effector functions of primary CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and human chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, UA interacts directly with ERK1/2 kinases, enhancing their activation and subsequently facilitating T cell activation by engaging ULK1. The UA‐ERK1/2‐ULK1 axis promotes autophagic flux in CD8+ CTLs, enhancing cellular metabolism and maintaining reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, as evidenced by increased oxygen consumption and extracellular acidification rates. UA‐treated CD8+ CTLs also display elevated ATP levels and enhanced spare respiratory capacity. Overall, UA activates ERK1/2, inducing autophagy and metabolic adaptation, showcasing its potential in tumor immunotherapy and interventions for diseases involving ERKs.

Abstract Background The clinical indications of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in immunosuppressed patients are not clear. This study aimed to analyse the effectiveness of ECMO and to identify the risk factors for the mortality of ECMO in immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory failure. Methods This retrospective, cohort study included 46 confirmed immunocompromised patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure treated with ECMO between July 2014 and August 2020. The clinical features and outcomes of the survival group and the non‐survival group were statistically analysed. Results The mean age of the enrolled patients was 60.0 (50.0, 66.0) years; male patients accounted for 60.9% of patients, and the mean CD4 level was 213 cells/μL (150.3, 325.3). The hospital mortality rate of the cohort was 67.4% (31/46 patients). Patients in the survival group showed a higher rate of receiving awake ECMO (11/15 vs. 4/31; p = 0.006), a lower rate of acute kidney injury (AKI) receiving continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) (1/15 vs. 12/31; p = 0.035), fewer platelet transfusion units (0/15 vs. 2/31 units; p = 0.039) and a lower rate of ventilator‐associated pneumonia (2/15 vs. 19/31; p = 0.006). Abstract Objective The prognosis for patients presenting with a large ischemic core (LIC) following endovascular thrombectomy is relatively poor. This study aimed to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting 3‐month unfavorable outcome in patients with anterior circulation occlusion‐related LIC who underwent endovascular thrombectomy. Methods A retrospective training cohort and a prospective validation cohort of patients with a large ischemic core were studied. The diffusion weighted imaging related radiomic features and pre‐thrombectomy clinical features were collected. After the selection of relevant features, a nomogram predicting modified Rankin Scale score of 3–6 as an unfavorable outcome was established. The discriminatory value of the nomogram was evaluated with a receiver operating characteristic curve. Results A total of 140 patients (mean age 66.3 ± 13.4 years, 35% female) were included in this study, consisting of a training cohort (n = 95) and a validation cohort (n = 45). The percentage of patients with an mRS scores of 0–2 was 30%, 0–3 was 40.7%, and 32.9% were dead. Age, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, and two radiomic features, Maximum2DDiameterColumn and Maximum2DDiameterSlice, were identified as factors associated with unfavorable outcome in the nomogram. The nomogram demonstrated an area under the curve of 0.892 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.812–0.947) in the training dataset and 0.872 (95% CI, 0.739–0.953) in the validation dataset. Interpretation This nomogram, which includes age, NIHSS score, Maximum2DDiameterColumn, and Maximum2DDiameterSlice, may predict the risk of unfavorable outcome in patients with LIC caused by anterior circulation occlusion.

Background Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) with Charcot arthropathy is a rare combination in orthopaedic clinical practice. The experience dealing with such patients is limited. Here with this case of approximately 10 years follow‐up, we wish to shed light on the choices of strategies of surgeries and alerting clinicians with post‐surgery complications. The possible underlying reasons for the recurrent Charcot arthropathies as well as strategies for peri‐operative management for such surgical cases are also discussed. Case Presentation The patient underwent a surgery to correct her severe kyphosis caused by CIPA‐related Charcot spine. Multiple post‐surgery complications occurred during her follow‐up, including hardware migration, adjacent segment disease (ASD), and loosening pedicle screws. Five revision surgeries were conducted consequently. From the limited experience on the management of CIPA‐related Charcot spine, surgical correction is still the first‐line treatment. Conclusions Of all the 16 cases reviewed (including our case), loosening pedicle screws, hardware migration, and ASDs are the common post‐surgery complications. Large‐scale removal of damaged vertebrae and subsequent reconstruction are not recommended, which might increase the risk of hardware migration. A 360° long‐segment fusion might be of help to reduce the risk of ASDs. In the meantime, comprehensive management including careful nursing, proper rehabilitation exercises, and treatments targeting bone mineral metabolism is also critical.

Abstract To address the instability timing problem of residual coal pillars under mining disturbance, their stress migration law and instability mechanism were studied via numerical simulation, physical simulation, and engineering tests considering residual coal remining in the 3101 working face of the Shenghua Coal Industry. The results show that as the mining progresses, the stress concentrates on both sides of the remaining coal pillar and empty roadway. When the first coal pillar in front of the working face loses its bearing capacity, the stress is transmitted forward, resulting in the advanced collapse of the empty roadway roof and an excessive load on the second coal pillar in front of the working face. Additionally, the critical value prediction model of the coal pillar stability safety factor fs ${f}_{{ m{s}}}$ was constructed. If fs ${f}_{{ m{s}}}$ is less than the critical value during the repeated mining period, the remaining coal pillar must be reinforced. A hollow grouting crossed anchor is selected for coal pillar reinforcement; thus, realizing the safe mining of the remaining coal pillars. Our research results provide theoretical support for the safe secondary mining of coal in China and similar coal mines worldwide.

Abstract The extra‐high voltage (EHV) transformer winding disks are subjected to dynamic electromagnetic forces caused by short‐circuit currents. These periodically decaying impact forces may endanger the safety of the transformer. The winding constraint conditions around the circumference are different due to the influence of axial pressure structures and magnetic boundaries. Moreover, this difference becomes more evident as the voltage and capacity increase. To investigate the spatial differences and time effects of EHV transformer short‐circuit faults, this paper proposes a reliability evaluation method based on dynamic relative displacement (DRDEM) for the first time. Firstly, the suitable and efficient analysis method is summarized by comparing the deviation among different calculated impedances and the measured value. Then, the space‐time effect of windings is obtained by the static magnetic field and dynamic structural field based on equivalent compression supports. Furthermore, a 50 MVA/110 kV transformer is designed for the destructive short‐circuit test to simulate the short‐circuit ability feature of the EHV transformer. The disassembly phenomena after all the tests indicate that the DRDEM is more adaptable in characterizing the winding ability to withstand short circuit when investigating the spatial differences and time effects.

Abstract Epithelium‐specific ETS transcription factor 1 (ESE1) has been implicated in epithelial homeostasis, inflammation, as well as tumorigenesis, and cancer progression. However, numerous studies have reported contradictory roles—as an oncogene or a tumor suppressor of ESE1 in different cancers, and its function in the development and progression of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has remained largely unexplored. Herein, we report that ESE1 was found upregulated in primary PDAC compared to normal pancreatic tissue, but high expression of ESE1 correlated to better relapse‐free survival in patients with PDAC. Interestingly, ESE1 was found to exhibit dual roles in regulation of malignant properties of PDAC cells in that its overexpression promoted cell proliferation, whereas its downregulation enhanced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotype. In the context of TGF‐β‐induced EMT, ESE1 is markedly downregulated at post‐transcriptional level, and reconstituted ESE1 expression partially reversed TGF‐β‐induced EMT marker expression. Furthermore, we identify AGR2 as a novel transcriptional target of ESE1 that participates in TGF‐β‐induced EMT in PDAC. Collectively, our findings reveal an ESE1/AGR2 axis that interacts with TGF‐β signaling to modulate EMT phenotype in PDAC.

Abstract The potential of microRNA regulation in oncotherapy is limited by the lack of delivery vehicles. Herein, it is shown that fluoropolymer coated DNA nanoclews (FNCs) provide outstanding ability to deliver oligonucleotide through circulation and realize near infrared (NIR) light activated angiogenesis suppression to abrogate tumors. Oligonucleotides are loaded in DNA nanoclews through sequence specific bindings and then a fluorinated zwitterionic polymer is coated onto the surface of nanoclews. Further incorporating quantum dots in the polymer coating endows the vectors with NIR‐IIb (1500–1700 nm) fluorescence and NIR light triggered release ability. The FNC vector can deliver oligonucleotides to cancer cells systemically and realize on‐demand cytosolic release of the cargo with high transfection efficiency. Taking advantage of the NIR‐IIb emission, the whole delivery process of FNCs is visualized volumetrically in vivo with a NIR light sheet microscope. Loaded by FNCs, an oligonucleotide can effectively silence the target miRNA when activated with NIR light, and inhibit angiogenesis inside tumor, leading to complete ablation of cancer. These findings suggest FNCs can be used as an efficient oligonucleotide delivery platform to modulate the expression of endogenous microRNA in gene therapy of cancer.

Abstract Although lipophilic membrane dyes (LMDs) or probes (LMPs) are widely used to label extracellular vesicles (EVs) for detection and purification, their labelling performance has not been systematically characterized. Through concurrent side scattering and fluorescence detection of single EVs as small as 40 nm in diameter by a laboratory‐built nano‐flow cytometer (nFCM), present study identified that (1) PKH67 and PKH26 could maximally label ∼60%–80% of EVs isolated from the conditioned cell culture medium (purity of ∼88%) and ∼40%–70% of PFP‐EVs (purity of ∼73%); (2) excessive PKH26 could cause damage to the EV structure; (3) di‐8‐ANEPPS and high concentration of DiI could achieve efficient and uniform labelling of EVs with nearly 100% labelling efficiency for di‐8‐ANEPPS and 70%–100% for DiI; (4) all the four tested LMDs can aggregate and form micelles that exhibit comparable side scatter and fluorescence intensity with those of labelled EVs and thus hardly be differentiate from each other; (5) as the LMD concentration went up, the particle number of self‐aggregates increased while the fluorescence intensity of aggregates remained constant; (6) PKH67 and PKH26 tend to form more aggregated micelles than di‐8‐ANEPPS and DiI, and the effect of LMD self‐aggregation can be negligible at optimal staining conditions. (7) All the four tested LMDs can label almost all the very‐low‐density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles, indicating potential confounding factor in plasma‐EV labelling. Besides, it was discovered that DSPE‐PEG2000‐biotin can only label ∼50% of plasma‐EVs. The number of LMP inserted into the membrane of single EVs was measured for the first time and it was confirmed that membrane labelling by lipophilic dyes did not interfere with the immunophenotyping of EVs. nFCM provides a unique perspective for a better understanding of EV labelling by LMD/LMP.

Abstract Intratumoral CD8+ T cells are crucial for effective cancer immunotherapy, but an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) contributes to dysfunction and insufficient infiltration. Drug repurposing has successfully led to new discoveries among existing clinical drugs for use as immune modulators to ameliorate immunosuppression in TME and reactivate T‐cell‐mediated antitumor immunity. However, due to suboptimal tumor bioavailability, the full potential of immunomodulatory effects of these old drugs has not been realized. The self‐degradable PMI nanogels carrying two repurposed immune modulators, imiquimod (Imi) and metformin (Met), are reported for TME‐responsive drug release. It remodels the TME through the following aspects: 1) promoting dendritic cells maturation, 2) repolarizing M2‐like tumor‐associated macrophages, and 3) downregulating PD‐L1 expression. Ultimately, PMI nanogels reshaped the immunosuppressive TME and efficiently promote CD8+ T cell infiltration and activation. These results support that PMI nanogels can potentially be an effective combination drug for enhancing the antitumor immune response of anti‐PD‐1 antibodies.

Abstract The liver plays a central role in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. Aberrant insulin action in the liver is a major driver of selective insulin resistance, in which insulin fails to suppress glucose production but continues to activate lipogenesis in the liver, resulting in hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. The underlying mechanisms of selective insulin resistance are not fully understood. Here It is shown that hepatic membrane phospholipid composition controlled by lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3) regulates insulin signaling and systemic glucose and lipid metabolism. Hyperinsulinemia induced by high‐fat diet (HFD) feeding augments hepatic Lpcat3 expression and membrane unsaturation. Loss of Lpcat3 in the liver improves insulin resistance and blunts lipogenesis in both HFD‐fed and genetic ob/ob mouse models. Mechanistically, Lpcat3 deficiency directly facilitates insulin receptor endocytosis, signal transduction, and hepatic glucose production suppression and indirectly enhances fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) secretion, energy expenditure, and glucose uptake in adipose tissue. These findings identify hepatic LPCAT3 and membrane phospholipid composition as a novel regulator of insulin sensitivity and provide insights into the pathogenesis of selective insulin resistance.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and practicality of anterior trans‐intervertebral space decompression and fusion (ATIDF) by comparing radiological and clinical outcomes between ATIDF and traditional anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) in cervical spondylosis patients with severe disc space narrowing. Methods Seventy‐one cervical spondylosis patients with severe disc space narrowing underwent anterior cervical spine surgery were included in this retrospective study. Thirty‐seven patients underwent ATIDF and 34 patients underwent ACCF. The neck disability index (NDI), Japan Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score and the Hirabayashi improvement rate were used to evaluate patient neurological status. Cervical sagittal alignment (C2–C7 Cobb angle), surgical segment sagittal alignment (Cobb angle of surgical segment) and disc space height were also compared between the two groups. Results There were 39 males and 32 females; mean age was 63.72 ± 6.36 years (range, 39–81 years). Mean follow‐up was 22.4 months (range, 6–45 months). All patients achieved an adequate neurological improvement. There were no significant differences in NDI, JOA scores and Hirabayashi improvement rate between the two groups. The change of C2–7 Cobb angle and surgical segment Cobb angle were both greater in the ATIDF group. Abstract Carbonaceous materials have been regarded as highly promising anode candidates for potassium storage with their cost‐effectiveness and environmental benignity. However, low specific capacity and difficulty in large‐scale synthesis largely hinder their further development. Herein, a thermal‐induced potassium–carbon alloy phase (KxCy) with the expanded interlayer spacing strategy is first put forward. Through in situ high‐temperature X‐ray diffraction, a K2C2 phase is evoked by thermal energy during the in‐situ carbonization process of carbon quantum dots intermediate derived from potassium‐containing precursors, whereas no lithium or sodium–carbon alloy phase is observed from lithium/sodium‐containing precursors. The as‐obtained ultra‐thin carbon nanosheets achieve adjustable layer spacing, preparation in bulk, delivering reversible potassium storage of 403.4 mAh g−1 at 100 mA g−1 and 161.2 mAh g−1 even at 5.0 A g−1, which is one of the most impressive K‐storage performances reported so far with great potential application. Furthermore, the assembled potassium‐ion hybrid capacitor by combining the impressive CFMs‐900 anode with the three‐dimensional framework‐activated carbon delivers a high energy‐power density of 251.7 Wh kg−1 at 250 W kg−1 with long‐term stability. This study opens a scalable avenue to realize the expanded interlayer spacing, which can be extended to other multicarboxyl potassium salts and can provide approach for the design of high‐performance carbon anode materials for potassium storage.

Abstract Most sepsis deaths are due to the development of multiple organ failure, in which heart failure is a recognized manifestation of sepsis. To date, the role of liver X receptors α (NR1H3) in sepsis is still uncertain. Here, we hypothesized that NR1H3 mediates multiple essential sepsis‐related signalings to attenuate septic heart failure. Adult male C57BL/6 or Balbc mice and HL‐1 myocardial cell line were performed for in vivo and in vitro experiments, respectively. NR1H3 knockout mice or NR1H3 agonist T0901317 was applied to evaluate the impact of NR1H3 on septic heart failure. We found decreased myocardial expression levels of NR1H3‐related molecules while increased NLRP3 level in septic mice. NR1H3 knockout worsensed cardiac dysfunction and injury in mice subjected to cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), in association with exacerbated NLRP3‐mediated inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and apoptosis‐related markers. The administration of T0901317 reduced systemic infection and improve cardiac dysfunction in septic mice. Moreover, Co‐IP assays, luciferase reporter assays, and chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis, confirmed that NR1H3 directly repressed NLRP3 activity. Finally, RNA‐seq detection further clarified an overview of the roles of NR1H3 in sepsis. In general, our findings indicate that NR1H3 had a significant protective effect against sepsis and sepsis‐induced heart failure.

Abstract This study intended to compare the prevalence of hypertension in adolescents aged 15–17 years in China according to different criteria defined by various guidelines. We included 28 715 adolescents aged 15–17 years from the China Hypertension Survey study (CHS) 2012–2015, and the 2017 American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) Clinical Practice Guideline and 2018 Chinese guidelines for children and adults were used to define hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension among Chinese adolescents aged 15–17 years was 24.4% according to the 2018 Chinese guidelines for children; the corresponding values were 18.6% according to the 2017 AAP Guidelines, and 3.5% according to 2018 Chinese guidelines for adults. The age‐specific prevalence of hypertension in the age of 15, 16, and 17 years in the same population was 26.2%, 24.4%, and 23.3% according to 2018 Chinese guidelines for children; 18.8%, 17.9%, and 19.2% as per the 2017 AAP Guidelines; 3.4%, 3.4%, and 3.6% as per the 2018 Chinese guidelines for adults. A highest prevalence of hypertension was observed according to 2018 Chinese guidelines for children than the other two guidelines. Compared with the 2018 Chinese guidelines for children, a higher 95th percentile BP (systolic and diastolic) was also observed in the present study in each gender‐age‐height‐specific group. And the height, which was key factor to influence blood pressure, was similar between adolescents aged 15–17 and adults, and a paralleled result was seen in the present study. Therefore, the 2018 Chinese guidelines for adults may also be appropriate for adolescents aged 15–17 years.

As the most prevalent subtype of aortic aneurysm, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) features the apoptosis, extracellular matrix (ECM) disruption, and inflammation response of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are crucial factors in AAA progression, while the investigations have not been fully explained. miR-191-5p upregulation is found in aortic aneurysm. However, its role in AAA has not been addressed. This research purposed to excavate the possible and associated molecular axis of miR-191-5p in AAA. In our study, miR-191-5p level was detected to be high in the tissues from AAA patients in comparison with the control group. After miR-191-5p expression was enhanced, cell viability was repressed, cell apoptosis was boosted, and ECM disruption and the inflammation response were fortified. Furthermore, the relationship among MIR503HG, miR-191-5p, and phospholipase C delta 1 (PLCD1) in VSMCs was disclosed via mechanism assays. Decreased MIR503HG lacked the inhibition on miR-191-5p targeting PLCD1, resulting in downregulation of PLCD1, which facilitated the progression of AAA. Thus, targeting MIR503HG/miR-191-5p/PLCD1 pathway will provide an additional method for the cure of AAA patients.

Incentive-based traffic demand management (IBTDM) schemes redistribute traffic demand across space and time. The relationship between IBTDM and traditional tolling programs impacts financial sustainability and decision making of both programs. This study aims to examine if an IBTDM and a tolling program can coexist and should collaborate or compete to establish a financially sustainable mobility ecosystem. We investigate a duopoly case with an IBTDM and a tolling program in a parallel bottleneck model with fixed demand. It is assumed that the IBTDM program has a user acquisition cost and is constrained by a total budget. Then, the collaboration and competition cases between two programs are investigated, respectively. We found that both programs can attract substantial amounts of commuters and thus can coexist with each other, while the IBTDM program could attract more commuters. Overall, the tolling agency will not cooperate with the IBTDM company if its goal is to raise revenue. Additionally, the IBTDM company held an advantage as it can determine an optimal incentive scheme with incomplete information when competing. This study fills the knowledge gap on the coexistence of incentive and tolling programs, which helps to optimize the profiles of incentive and tolling, as well as to make strategic decisions on competition and cooperation.

Abstract Sepsis causes multiple organ injuries, among which the heart is one most severely damaged organ. Melatonin (MEL) alleviates septic myocardial injury, although a systematic and comprehensive approach is still lacking to understand the precise protective machinery of MEL. This study aimed to examine the underlying mechanisms of MEL on improvement of septic myocardial injury at a systematic level. This study integrated three analytic modalities including database investigations, RNA‐seq analysis, and weighted gene co‐expression network analysis (WCGNA), in order to acquire a set of genes associated with the pathogenesis of sepsis. The Drugbank database was employed to predict genes that may serve as pharmacological targets for MEL‐elicited benefits, if any. A pharmacological protein–protein interaction network was subsequently constructed, and 66 hub genes were captured which were enriched in a variety of immune response pathways. Notably, PIK3CG, one of the hub genes, displayed high topological characteristic values, strongly suggesting its promise as a novel target for MEL‐evoked treatment of septic myocardial injury. Importantly, molecular docking simulation experiments as well as in vitro and in vivo studies supported an essential role for PIK3CG in MEL‐elicited effect on septic myocardial injury. This study systematically clarified the mechanisms of MEL intervention in septic myocardial injury involved multiple targets and multiple pathways. Moreover, PIK3CG‐governed signaling cascade plays an important role in the etiology of sepsis and septic myocardial injury. Findings from our study provide valuable information on novel intervention targets for the management of septic myocardial injury. More importantly, this study has indicated the utility of combining a series of techniques for disease target discovery and exploration of possible drug targets, which should shed some light on elucidation of experimental and clinical drug action mechanisms systematically.

Abstract Aim This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and advantages of immediate urinary catheter removal compared with prolonged indwelling catheterization in lung cancer lobectomy. Design This study was designed as a prospective, single‐centre, randomized and open‐label clinical study. Methods People with lung cancer undergoing lobectomy/pneumonectomy were recruited and randomly allocated to two groups. One group had their urinary catheter removed immediately while the other group had it removed 48 hr after surgery. Results No significant difference in the incidence of postoperative urinary retention (POUR) was observed between the two groups. However, the incidence of postoperative catheter‐associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) in the immediate removal group (6.7%) was lower than the control group (17.2%) (p = .030). Furthermore, the incidence of catheter‐associated emergence agitation (CAEA) in the control group (25.3%) was higher than the immediate removal group (8.9%) (p = .007). The average length of hospital stay of the immediate removal group [6.51(4–11) days] was shorter than the control group [7.20(5–12) days] (p = .002). Immediate removal of urinary catheter appeared to have fewer complications and shorter hospital stay than delayed removal.

Abstract Background Satellite cells (SCs) are critical to skeletal muscle regeneration. Inactivation of SCs is linked to skeletal muscle loss. Transferrin receptor 1 (Tfr1) is associated with muscular dysfunction as muscle‐specific deletion of Tfr1 results in growth retardation, metabolic disorder, and lethality, shedding light on the importance of Tfr1 in muscle physiology. However, its physiological function regarding skeletal muscle ageing and regeneration remains unexplored. Methods RNA sequencing is applied to skeletal muscles of different ages to identify Tfr1 associated to skeletal muscle ageing. Mice with conditional SC ablation of Tfr1 were generated. Between Tfr1SC/WT and Tfr1SC/KO (n = 6–8 mice per group), cardiotoxin was intramuscularly injected, and transverse abdominal muscle was dissected, weighted, and cryosectioned, followed by immunostaining, haematoxylin and eosin staining, and Masson staining. These phenotypical analyses were followed with functional analysis such as flow cytometry, tread mill, Prussian blue staining, and transmission electron microscopy to identify pathological pathways that contribute to regeneration defects. Abstract Background State‐of‐art non‐invasive diagnosis processes for bladder cancer (BLCA) harbour shortcomings such as low sensitivity and specificity, unable to distinguish between high‐ (HG) and low‐grade (LG) tumours, as well as inability to differentiate muscle‐invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and non‐muscle‐invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). This study investigates a comprehensive characterization of the entire DNA methylation (DNAm) landscape of BLCA to determine the relevant biomarkers for the non‐invasive diagnosis of BLCA. Methods A total of 304 samples from 224 donors were enrolled in this multi‐centre, prospective cohort study. BLCA‐specific DNAm signature discovery was carried out with genome‐wide bisulfite sequencing in 32 tumour tissues and 12 normal urine samples. A targeted sequencing assay for BLCA‐specific DNAm signatures was developed to categorize tumour tissue against normal urine, or MIBC against NMIBC. Independent validation was performed with targeted sequencing of 259 urine samples in a double‐blinded manner to determine the clinical diagnosis and prognosis value of DNAm‐based classification models. Functions of genomic region harbouring BLCA‐specific DNAm signature were validated with biological assays. Concordances of pathology to urine tumour DNA (circulating tumour DNA [ctDNA]) methylation, genomic mutations or other state‐of‐the‐art diagnosis methods were measured. Results Genome‐wide DNAm profile could accurately classify LG tumour from HG tumour (LG NMIBC vs. HG NMIBC: p = .038; LG NMIBC vs. HG MIBC, p = .00032; HG NMIBC vs. HG MIBC: p = .82; Student's t‐test). Overall, the DNAm profile distinguishes MIBC from NMIBC and normal urine. Targeted‐sequencing‐based DNAm signature classifiers accurately classify LG NMIBC tissues from HG MIBC and could detect tumours in urine at a limit of detection of less than .5%. In tumour tissues, DNAm accurately classifies pathology, thus outperforming genomic mutation or RNA expression profiles. In the independent validation cohort, pre‐surgery urine ctDNA methylation outperforms fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay to detect HG BLCA (n = 54) with 100% sensitivity (95% CI: 82.5%–100%) and LG BLCA (n = 26) with 62% sensitivity (95% CI: 51.3%–72.7%), both at 100% specificity (non‐BLCA: n = 72; 95% CI: 84.1%–100%). Pre‐surgery urine ctDNA methylation signature correlates with pathology and predicts recurrence and metastasis. Post‐surgery urine ctDNA methylation (n = 61) accurately predicts recurrence‐free survival within 180 days, with 100% accuracy. Conclusion With the discovery of BLCA‐specific DNAm signatures, targeted sequencing of ctDNA methylation outperforms FISH and DNA mutation to detect tumours, predict recurrence and make prognoses.

The hydraulically amplified self‐healing electrostatic actuator is an emerging driving component for soft robotics, which is composed of a flexible dielectric polymer shell that is partially covered by conductive electrodes and filled with a liquid dielectric. However, the low permittivity and dielectric strength of the polymer shell remain a challenge that limits the actuator performance. Herein, a Peano‐hydraulically amplified self‐healing electrostatic actuator is constructed by innovatively integrating a bilayer polymer shell for combined favorable properties of high dielectric strength, dielectric permittivity, and elastic modulus. Compared with a traditional single‐layer shell actuator, the new bilayer actuator architecture generates an increased strain (164%) at 5 kV and improves load‐bearing capability (620 mN) at 6 kV, thereby providing a significantly enhanced actuation performance. The new actuator is further applied in driving a ratchet system, which converts the reciprocating motion of the actuator into a rotating motion and a flexible output torque, in order to protect the rotating components from impact. The high strain and load characteristics of the bilayer configuration and the easy‐to‐deform characteristics of the new actuator design make it an attractive approach to fabricate complex geometries and achieve a variety of motion modes in soft systems.

Abstract It has been demonstrated recently that extracellular vesicles (EVs) carry DNA; however, many fundamental features of DNA in EVs (EV‐DNA) remain elusive. In this study, a laboratory‐built nano‐flow cytometer (nFCM) that can detect single EVs as small as 40 nm in diameter and single DNA fragments of 200 bp upon SYTO 16 staining was used to study EV‐DNA at the single‐vesicle level. Through simultaneous side‐scatter and fluorescence (FL) detection of single particles and with the combination of enzymatic treatment, present study revealed that: (1) naked DNA or DNA associated with non‐vesicular entities is abundantly presented in EV samples prepared from cell culture medium by ultracentrifugation; (2) the quantity of EV‐DNA in individual EVs exhibits large heterogeneity and the population of DNA positive (DNA+) EVs varies from 30% to 80% depending on the cell type; (3) external EV‐DNA is mainly localized on relatively small size EVs (e.g.

Background. Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is considered to be one of the most aggressive cancers. Our previous study proved that highly expressed lysine acetyltransferase 5 (KAT5) in ATC is associated with a poorer prognosis. Here, this study examined the effects of a KAT5 inhibitor (NU9056) in human ATC cells. Methods. First, the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset was used to detect the relationship between KAT5 expression and outcomes of thyroid carcinoma patients. Then, both in vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of NU9056 on normal and ATC human thyroid cells. Finally, microRNA sequencing, qPCR, and dual-luciferase reporter assay were performed to explore potential mechanisms by identifying downstream microRNA related to NU9056. Results. KAT5 dysregulation correlated with more advanced-stage and poorer outcomes of thyroid carcinoma patients. Endogenous KAT5 protein and mRNA levels were much higher in ATC cells than in normal thyroid cells. Suppression of KAT5 by NU9056 inhibited survival, growth, migration, invasion, and tube formation, and increased radiosensitivity and chemosensitivity in ATC cells but showed no impact on normal thyroid cells. Mechanistically, microRNA-202-5p (miR-202) was identified as the most significantly decreased miRNA after NU9056 treatment. Knockdown of miR-202 suppressed ATC cell progression, while forced expression of miR-202 partially blocked the inhibitory effect of NU9056 on ATC cells. Furthermore, c-Myc was validated as the transcription factor of miR-202, and NU9056 decreased the c-Myc protein level by shortening its half-life. Finally, we proved that NU9056 inhibited ATC proliferation in vivo. Conclusions. Our results indicated that NU9056 targets KAT5, shortens c-Myc half-life, subsequently downregulates miR-202 expression, and results in the suppression of ATC cells. Overall, KAT5 could be a potential target for clinical treatment for ATC.

Printing electronic components by screen printing with the excellent printing quality, high efficiency, and environmental protection has broad application prospects in additive manufacturing. However, because conductive-ink blocks the screen, printing efficiency and quality decreased in the printing process. Thus, it is pivotal to explore adhesion factors from the interaction of conductive ink and screen. Herein, according to the transfer process of screen printing ink, solid-liquid wetting theory, and adhesion mechanism, we establish a liquid bridge adhesion model between two plates and obtain the functional relationship between the adhesion force and its influencing factors. Fluent software verifies the adhesion force model's conclusion to get the influence trend of the adhesion force on the ink residue. At last, by establishing a liquid bridge tensile fracture test, we gain experimental results consistent with the theoretical model and numerical simulation results. It is demonstrated that solid-liquid contact angle, tensile distance, and liquid volume are the main factors affecting the change of solid-liquid adhesion. The increase of tensile distance and contact angle will affect the adhesion force. The smaller the maximum solid-liquid adhesion during the initial stretching of the liquid bridge, the less the residual amount remained on the solid surface. By means of screen modification, the adhesion between conductive ink and screen can be reduced; meanwhile, the efficiency and quality of printed products can be improved. What's more, it also provides a valuable reference for the modification of screen printing electronics.

Abstract Unique membrane structures endow membranes with controlled ion transport properties in both biological and artificial systems, and they have shown broad application prospects from industrial production to biological interfaces. Herein, current advances in nanochannel‐structured membranes for manipulating ion transport are reviewed from the perspective of membrane structures. First, the controllability of ion transport through ion selectivity, ion gating, ion rectification, and ion storage is introduced. Second, nanochannel‐structured membranes are highlighted according to the nanochannel dimensions, including single‐dimensional nanochannels (i.e., 1D, 2D, and 3D) functioning by the controllable geometrical parameters of 1D nanochannels, the adjustable interlayer spacing of 2D nanochannels, and the interconnected ion diffusion pathways of 3D nanochannels, and mixed‐dimensional nanochannels (i.e., 1D/1D, 1D/2D, 1D/3D, 2D/2D, 2D/3D, and 3D/3D) tuned through asymmetric factors (e.g., components, geometric parameters, and interface properties). Then, ultrathin membranes with short ion transport distances and sandwich‐like membranes with more delicate nanochannels and combination structures are reviewed, and stimulus‐responsive nanochannels are discussed. Construction methods for nanochannel‐structured membranes are briefly introduced, and a variety of applications of these membranes are summarized. Finally, future perspectives to developing nanochannel‐structured membranes with unique structures (e.g., combinations of external macro/micro/nanostructures and the internal nanochannel arrangement) for mediating ion transport are presented.

Abstract Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) plays a major role in the aggressive progression of vulnerable plaque, leading to acute cardiovascular events. We previously demonstrated that sonodynamic therapy (SDT) inhibits atherosclerotic plaque progression. In this study, we investigated whether SDT could also be applied to treat more advanced hemorrhagic plaque and addressed the underlying mechanism. SDT decreased atherosclerotic burden, positively altered atherosclerotic lesion composition, and alleviated iron retention in rabbit hemorrhagic plaques. Furthermore, SDT reduced iron retention by stimulating ferroportin 1 (Fpn1) expression in apolipoprotein E (ApoE)−/− mouse plaques with high susceptibility to IPH. Subsequently, SDT inhibited iron‐overload‐induced foam‐cell formation and pro‐inflammatory cytokines secretion in vitro. Moreover, SDT reduced levels of the labile iron pool and ferritin expression via the reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2)‐FPN1 pathway. SDT exerted therapeutic effects on hemorrhagic plaques and reduced iron retention via the ROS‐Nrf2‐FPN1 pathway in macrophages, thereby suggesting that it is a potential translational strategy for patients with advanced atherosclerosis in clinical practice.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is characterised by heterogeneity, and it can be subdivided into small-duct and large-duct types. Inflammatory and tumour markers could effectively predict prognosis in many cancers, but no similar studies have been conducted in the histological subtypes of ICC. A total of 102 and 72 patients with ICC undergoing curative-intent resection were retrospectively subclassified into large-duct and small-duct types by chemical staining, respectively. The prognostic value of inflammatory and tumour markers was studied for the first time in histological subtypes of ICC by using a Cox regression model. A novel predictor named prognostic inflammatory index (PII) was proposed and defined as neutrophil×monocyte/lymphocyte count (109/L). Abstract Iron homeostasis is essential for maintaining cellular function in a wide range of cell types. However, whether iron affects the thermogenic properties of adipocytes is currently unknown. Using integrative analyses of multi‐omics data, transferrin receptor 1 (Tfr1) is identified as a candidate for regulating thermogenesis in beige adipocytes. Furthermore, it is shown that mice lacking Tfr1 specifically in adipocytes have impaired thermogenesis, increased insulin resistance, and low‐grade inflammation accompanied by iron deficiency and mitochondrial dysfunction. Mechanistically, the cold treatment in beige adipocytes selectively stabilizes hypoxia‐inducible factor 1‐alpha (HIF1α), upregulating the Tfr1 gene, and thermogenic adipocyte‐specific Hif1α deletion reduces thermogenic gene expression in beige fat without altering core body temperature. Notably, Tfr1 deficiency in interscapular brown adipose tissue (iBAT) leads to the transdifferentiation of brown preadipocytes into white adipocytes and muscle cells; in contrast, long‐term exposure to a low‐iron diet fails to phenocopy the transdifferentiation effect found in Tfr1‐deficient mice. Moreover, mice lacking transmembrane serine protease 6 (Tmprss6) develop iron deficiency in both inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT) and iBAT, and have impaired cold‐induced beige adipocyte formation and brown fat thermogenesis. Taken together, these findings indicate that Tfr1 plays an essential role in thermogenic adipocytes via both iron‐dependent and iron‐independent mechanisms.

Adverse weathers are well-known to impact the operation of transportation systems, including taxis. This paper utilizes taxi GPS waypoint data to investigate the quantitative impact of rainfall on taxi hailing and taxi operations to help improve service quality on rainy days. Through statistical analysis, the study proves that it is more difficult to hail taxis on rainy days, especially during morning peak hours. By modelling the difference value of factors for rainfall and nonrainfall conditions in a multivariate regression model and attaining the significance and elasticity of each factor, passenger demand, taxi supply, search time and velocity are proved to be the significant factors that lower the taxis’ level of service on rainy days. Among them, the number of passengers and taxis are two factors that have the greatest impact. It is also shown that there is no significant difference in the total taxi supply and passenger demand between rainfall and nonrainfall conditions, but a dramatic change in the spatial distribution is discovered. The results suggest that instead of simply providing more taxis on rainy days, optimally dispatching taxicabs to high demand regions can be a more effective solution.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have sparked tremendous interest owing to their prominent potential in diagnostics and therapeutics. Isolation of EVs from complex biological fluids with high purity is essential to the accurate analysis of EV cargo. Unfortunately, generally used isolation techniques do not offer good separation of EVs from non-EV contaminants. Hence, it is important to have a standardized method to characterise the properties of EV preparations, including size distribution, particle concentration, purity and phenotype. Employing a laboratory-built nano-flow cytometer (nFCM) that enables multiparameter analysis of single EVs as small as 40 nm, here we report a new benchmark to the quality and efficiency assessment of EVs isolated from plasma, one of the most difficult body fluids to work with. The performance of five widely used commercial isolation kits was examined and compared with the traditional differential ultracentrifugation (UC). Two to four orders of magnitude higher particle concentrations were observed for EV preparations from platelet-free plasma (PFP) by kits when compared with the EV preparation by UC, yet the purity was much lower. Meanwhile, the particle size distribution profiles of EV preparations by kits closely resembled those of PFP whereas the EV preparation by UC showed a broader size distribution at relatively large particle size. When these kits were used to isolate EVs from vesicle-depleted PFP (VD-PFP), comparable particle counts were obtained with their corresponding EV preparations from PFP, which confirmed again the isolation of a large quantity of non-vesicular contaminants. As CD9, CD63 and CD81 also exist in the plasma matrix, single-particle phenotyping of EVs offers distinct advantage in the validation of EVs compared with ensemble-averaged approaches, such as Western blot analysis. nFCM allows us to compare different isolation techniques without prejudice.

Abstract Background Alcohol‐induced osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH) is a complex disease and genetic factors are one of the causes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of RETN (resistin; OMIM: 605565) and LDLR (low density lipoprotein receptor; OMIM: 606945) polymorphisms on the risk of alcohol‐induced ONFH in Chinese Han population. Methods A case–control study including 201 patients and 201 controls was designed. Seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in RETN gene and four SNPs in LDLR gene were genotyped using Agena MassARRAY platform. In allele model and genetic model, chi‐square test and logistic regression were used to study the associations between these SNPs and ONFH susceptibility. In addition, the relationships between these SNPs, clinical phenotypes, and blood lipid level with one‐way analysis of variance were analyzed. Results In the allele model, rs7408174 and rs3745369 in RETN were associated with increased risk of alcohol‐induced ONFH, whereas rs34861192 and rs3219175 in RETN showed reduced risk of alcohol‐induced ONFH. In the genetic model, rs7408174 was associated with increased risk of alcohol‐induced ONFH in dominant model and log‐additive model. Rs3745369 showed an increased risk in codominant model, recessive model, and log‐additive model. Rs34861192 showed a decreased risk in codominant model, dominant model, and log‐additive model, and rs3219175 showed a decreased risk in dominant model and log‐additive model. The rs3745368 in RETN was associated with the clinical stage of the disease. Conclusion These results suggest that RETN genetic polymorphisms are associated with the susceptibility of alcohol‐induced ONFH in Chinese Han population.

Abstract Objectives The purpose of this study was to assess atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) prevalence, antidiabetes medication usage and physician specialty encounters among individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the United States during 2015. Design Retrospective, cross‐sectional analysis. Patients Adults with T2DM in a large US administrative claims database. Patients were divided into ASCVD and non‐ASCVD groups. Subgroup analyses were conducted for three age groups (18‐44, 45‐64 and 65+ years). Results Of 1 202 596 patients with T2DM, 45.2% had established ASCVD. About 40% of T2DM patients with ASCVD had visited a cardiologist during 2015, compared to 11% in the non‐ASCVD group. Background Data regarding the metabolic risk factors clustering on the risk of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) are lacking among people living at high altitude and under hypoxic conditions. In this study, we explored the association between metabolic risk factor clustering and LVDD among the Tibetan population of China. Methods and Results We conducted a cross‐sectional survey in a representative sample of 1963 Tibetans in 2014 to 2016. Grading LVDD was based on recommendations for the evaluation of LV diastolic function by echocardiography (2009). Purpose. To investigate the characteristics of blood in nonsyndromic retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and reveal the pathogenesis of blood cells involved in blood stasis in RP. Design. This is a retrospective observational study. Methods. We collected vein blood from 101 cases of patients with nonsyndromic RP and 120 cases of normal individuals according to a single-blind study and used routine clinical examination to detect the indicators of blood. All the subjects were mainly from the central south of China. Data were analyzed statistically between the RP group and normal control. Results. Interactions between motorized and nonmotorized vehicles have drawn considerable attention from researchers. They are commonly seen at mixed flow intersections where nonmotorized vehicles, without the restriction of lane markers or physical barriers, may disperse into adjacent lanes and thus lead to complex interactions with motorized vehicles. Such a dispersion phenomenon between heterogeneous participants (e-bikes and bicycles as nonmotorized vehicles versus motorized vehicles) is difficult to model. In this paper, we were inspired by the dispersion of charged particles in an electric field and modeled the dispersion phenomenon of go-straight, nonmotorized vehicles at mixed flow intersections accordingly, as it was discovered in this research that these two dispersion phenomena share three underlying commonalities with each other. A novel particle dispersion model (PDM) based on a particle’s movement in an electric field is proposed. The model is calibrated and validated using 1,490 high-definition sets of trajectory data for go-straight, nonmotorized vehicles during 43 cycles at two typical mixed flow intersections. The PDM is compared with the social force model (SFM) on their dispersion characteristics that are used to describe the nonmotorized bicycles’ behavior. The results show that the PDM performs better than the SFM with regard to depicting the dispersion characteristic indices of the nonmotorized vehicles, such as the travel time, the dispersion intensity of heterogeneous nonmotorized vehicles, the sectional dispersion degree, and other dispersion characteristics.

Transportation simulation and analysis projects that utilize maps with inappropriate fidelity levels carry a significant risk of having poor runtime or poor prediction performance. To address this, researchers use map abstraction method to abstract out a simplified map with fewer links and nodes based on the original full detailed map. Traditional static abstraction methods produce analysis maps with a single fidelity across the entire planning horizon, which cannot reflect the dynamic changes of daily traffic. This paper proposes a spatiotemporal dynamic map abstraction approach that adopts a time series clustering method to segment the analysis time horizon adaptively based on a Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) curve, which describes network-wide dynamic traffic states. Time periods with similar macro-performance are grouped into one subinterval. A map with a dedicated fidelity is produced for each subinterval. Furthermore, a simulation is run on multiple abstracted maps with different fidelities in a sequence according to their temporal order. A numerical experiment ascertains that the proposed approach has promising results in both analysis accuracy and efficiency for resource-constrained modeling agents.

The organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites such as CH3NH3PbI3 have been considered as one of the most promising candidates for the next-generation photovoltaic materials due to its high absorption coefficient, low exciton binding energy, and long diffusion length. Herein, we have chosen NiOx as the hole transport material because metal oxides exhibit robust properties in air. We synthesized the NiOx film by a common sol-gel method. It is found that high-temperature annealing (500°C) is required to ensure the perovskite solar cell (PSC) with an efficiency over 15%. Low-temperature annealing (100°C) cannot convert the precursor materials to fully covered NiOx film, while the PSC based on mediate-temperature annealing (300°C) NiOx has larger resistance and thus lower efficiency. Fortunately, we have found that UV-ozone treatment on the NiOx film can reduce the resistance of the device based on 300°C annealed NiOx. The champion device can reach 16% efficiency with UV-ozone-treated 300°C annealed NiOx. This work has made it possible to reduce the annealing temperature of the sol-gel NiOx for high-efficiency PSCs, and it is believed that this simple surface treatment can be further employed in other metal oxide-based optoelectronic devices.

It is a great challenge to offer a fine-grained and accurate PM 2.5 monitoring service in urban areas as required facilities are very expensive and huge. Since PM 2.5 has a significant scattering effect on visible light, large-scale user-contributed image data collected by the mobile crowdsensing bring a new opportunity for understanding the urban PM 2.5 . In this article, we propose a fine-grained PM 2.5 estimation method based on random forest with data announced by meteorological departments and collected from smartphone users without any PM 2.5 measurement devices. We design and implement a platform to collect data in the real world including the image provided by users. By combining online learning and offline learning, the method based on random forest performs well in terms of time complexity and accuracy. We compare our method with two kinds of baselines: subsets of the whole data sets and six classical models (such as logistic, naive Bayes). Six kinds of evaluation indexes (precision, recall, true-positive rate, false-positive rate, F -measure, and receiver operating characteristic curve area) are used in the evaluation. The experimental results show that our method achieves high accuracy (precision: 0.875, recall: 0.872) on PM 2.5 estimation, which outperforms the other methods.

Along the twentieth century, the electronic properties of bismuth have been widely studied, especially in relation with its magnetoresistive and thermoelectric responses. In this context, a particular emphasis has been made on electronic confinement effects in bismuth nanostructures (or nanobismuth). In the recent years, the optical properties of bismuth nanostructures are focusing a growing interest. An increasing number of reports point at the potential of such nanostructures to support plentiful optical resonances over an ultrabroad spectral range: “interband plasmonic” resonances in the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared; dielectric Mie resonances in mid- and far-infrared; and conventional free-carrier plasmonic resonances in the far-infrared and terahertz. With the aim to provide a comprehensive basis for exploiting the full optical potential of bismuth nanostructures, we review the current progress in their controlled fabrication, the trends reported (from theoretical calculations and experimental observations) for their optical and plasmonic response, and their emerging applications, including photocatalysis and switchable metamaterials.

The photon-assisted magnetic recording utilizes the ultrafast laser to excite the spin wave in the magnetic nanostructures and accordingly switch its magnetization state. Here, by means of micromagnetic simulation, the motion of magnetic skyrmions, a topologically protected chiral magnet with few nanometer size, induced by the spin wave is studied. It is found that the magnetic skyrmion can move in the same direction of spin-wave propagation, which is first accelerated and then decelerated exponentially. The magnetic skyrmion motion originated from the robust coupling of the spin waves with the skyrmion, through the SW’s linear momentum transfer torque acting on the skyrmion. Besides amplitude, the reflectivity of the spin wave by skyrmion has tremendous impact on the velocity of skyrmion motion. The skyrmion velocities are mainly determined by the reflectivity, when the spin-wave amplitude is almost identical. Our results give guidance for the design and development of spin-wave control spintronics.

As a technology of monitoring and recording human body health signals, wireless body area networks (WBANs) play an increasingly important role in the field of healthcare. Inspired by the semigroup property of Chebyshev maps, we designed a novel chaotic maps-based authentication scheme for wireless body area networks. The study aims to avoid modular exponential computation or scalar multiplication on an elliptic curve and reduce the need for time-consuming. Compared with the previous schemes, our scheme not only enjoys more security features but also has reduced computational cost of client and application provider. Moreover, we present the security model for our scheme, demonstrate the validity of the protocol by the BAN (Burrows, Abadi, and Needham) logic in detail, and analyze the software implementation method of Chebyshev polynomial.

The effect of air throttling on flame stabilization of an ethylene fueled scramjet combustor was investigated by numerical simulation and experiments in this paper. The results were obtained under the inflow condition with Mach number of 2.0, total temperature of 900 K, total pressure of 0.8 MPa, and total equivalence ratio of 0.5. The shock train generated by air throttling had a big effect on the flow structure of the scramjet combustor. Compared with the combustor without air throttling, the flow field with air throttling had a lower velocity and higher pressure, temperature, and vortices intensity. Air throttling was an effective way to achieve flame stabilization; the combustion in the combustor without air throttling was nearly blowout. In the experiment, the combustion was nearly blowout with air throttling location of 745 mm, and the fuel/air mixture in the combustor with air throttling location of 875 mm was burned intensively. It was important to choose the location and time sequence of air throttling for fuel ignition and flame stabilization. The numerical simulation results agreed well with experimental measurements.

We develop a canonical dual approach for solving the MIMO problem. First, a special linear transformation is introduced to reformulate the original problem into a {−1,1} constrained quadratic programming problem. Then, we derive a canonical dual problem which is piecewise continuous problem with no duality gap. Under certain conditions, the canonical problem becomes a concave maximization dual problem over a convex feasible domain. By getting the stationary point of the canonical dual problem, we can find either an optimal or approximate solution of the original problem. A gradient decent algorithm is proposed to solve the MIMO problem and simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

The wireless body area networks (WBANs) have emerged as a new method for e-healthcare. Without being measured face-to-face, the medical workers can give guidance to patients in a real-time way. WBANs can greatly improve the healthcare quality. The personal information and medical data are stored and processed in sensors. The security and privacy are two vital issues. In this paper, we design an attribute-based encryption scheme for fine-grained access control in WBANs. In our scheme, a user can decrypt a ciphertext if the attributes related with a ciphertext satisfy the user's access structure. The users can be revoked if necessary. Therefore, the security and privacy of patients can be protected. Our scheme provides confidentiality, security, and resistance to collusion attack. We analyze the correctness, security, and energy consumption of the scheme.
