Abstract Sentiment analysis is a fine‐grained analysis task that aims to identify the sentiment polarity of a specified sentence. Existing methods in Chinese sentiment analysis tasks only consider sentiment features from a single pole and scale and thus cannot fully exploit and utilise sentiment feature information, making their performance less than ideal. To resolve the problem, the authors propose a new method, GP‐FMLNet, that integrates both glyph and phonetic information and design a novel feature matrix learning process for phonetic features with which to model words that have the same pinyin information but different glyph information. Our method solves the problem of misspelling words influencing sentiment polarity prediction results. Specifically, the authors iteratively mine character, glyph, and pinyin features from the input comments sentences. Then, the authors use soft attention and matrix compound modules to model the phonetic features, which empowers their model to keep on zeroing in on the dynamic‐setting words in various positions and to dispense with the impacts of the deceptive‐setting ones. Experiments on six public datasets prove that the proposed model fully utilises the glyph and phonetic information and improves on the performance of existing Chinese sentiment analysis algorithms.

Abstract Background Neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (NCIT) for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is supported by increasing data, but the sample size is limited, and the findings are not completely consistent. We conducted a real‐world study and a meta‐analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NCIT in locally advanced ESCC. Methods We retrospectively assessed the outcomes of patients with locally advanced ESCC who completed NICT and subsequent esophagectomy at our hospital between January 2019 and December 2022, including pathological complete response (pCR) rate, major pathological response (MPR) rate, 1‐, 2‐, and 3‐year overall survival (OS) rates, disease control rate (DCR), objective response rate (ORR), 1‐year recurrence rate, R0 resection rate and adverse events. Moreover, a meta‐analysis of 27 published literatures was also conducted for comparison. Results In the analysis, 128 patients were studied, with 25% achieving pCR, 46.1% MPR, and 99.2% R0 resection. The 1‐, 2‐, and 3‐year OS rates were 91.41% (95% CI: 85.15%–95.63%), 75.00% (95% CI: 66.58%–82.23%) and 64.84% (95% CI: 55.91%–73.07%).ORR and DCR were 31.2% (95% CI: 23.31–39.99) and 64.1% (95% CI: 55.15%–72.38%), and the 1‐year recurrence rate was 26.7% (95% CI: 22.5%–38.1%). Treatment‐related events occurred in 96.1% but were acceptable. In a meta‐analysis of 27 studies with 1734 patients, pooled rates for pCR, MPR, ORR, DCR, and R0 resection were 29%, 52%, 71%, 97%, and 98%, respectively, with a 1‐year recurrence rate of 12%. Conclusion NCIT is safe and provides potential survival benefits for patients with locally advanced ESCC. However, randomized phase 3 trial data is still needed.

Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), characterized by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH), is an independent risk factor for aggravating non‐alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The prevailing mouse model employed in CIH research is inadequate for the comprehensive exploration of the impact of CIH on NASH development due to reduced food intake observed in CIH‐exposed mice, which deviates from human responses. To address this issue, a pair‐feeding investigation with CIH‐exposed and normoxia‐exposed mice is conducted. It is revealed that CIH exposure aggravates DNA damage, leading to hepatic fibrosis and inflammation. The analysis of genome‐wide association study (GWAS) data also discloses the association between Eepd1, a DNA repair enzyme, and OSAS. Furthermore, it is revealed that CIH triggered selective autophagy, leading to the autophagic degradation of Eepd1, thereby exacerbating DNA damage in hepatocytes. Notably, Eepd1 liver‐specific knockout mice exhibit aggravated hepatic DNA damage and further progression of NASH. To identify a therapeutic approach for CIH‐induced NASH, a drug screening is conducted and it is found that Retigabine dihydrochloride suppresses CIH‐mediated Eepd1 degradation, leading to alleviated DNA damage in hepatocytes. These findings imply that targeting CIH‐mediated Eepd1 degradation can be an adjunctive approach in the treatment of NASH exacerbated by OSAS.

Abstract The development of renewable energy will increase the demand for flexible resources in power systems due to the strong uncertainties. To allocate resources and cope with these uncertainties, it is beneficial to apply robust coordinated energy storage and transmission expansion planning (ES&TEP). The large candidate line set can significantly increase the computational complexity of robust optimization models. However, there is currently no suitable network search space reduction (NSSR) method to address this problem. This paper designs a NSSR method based on redundancy constraint identification that only requires information on component power ranges rather than fixed power curves, which can be well adapted to robust optimization. Additionally, this method requires only basic numerical calculations and ensures convergence within a finite number of iterations. The classical stochastic robust ES&TEP model and the column and constraint generation (C&CG) algorithm are used to validate the effectiveness of the NSSR method. In the case studies, the numerical results confirm the rationality and effectiveness of the approach proposed in this paper. By selecting appropriate parameters, the candidate line set can be reduced by over 70% and the computational efficiency can be improved by an order of magnitude.

Abstract Maintaining energy balance and economical operation is significant for energy hub (EH) which serves as the central component. Implementing real‐time regulation for heating and cooling equipment within the EH is challenging due to their slow response time in response to the stochastic fluctuation in renewable energy sources and demands while the opposite is true for electric energy storage equipment (EST), a conventional single timescale energy management strategy is no longer sufficient to take into account the operating characteristics of all equipment. With this motivation, this study proposes a deep reinforcement learning based two‐timescale energy management strategy for EH, which controls heating & cooling equipment on a long timescale of 1 h, and EST on a short timescale of 15 min. The actions of the EST are modelled as discrete to reduce the action spaces, and the discrete‐continuous hybrid action sequential TD3 model is proposed to address the problem of handling both discrete and continuous actions in long timescale policy. A joint training approach based on the centralized training framework is proposed to learn multiple levels of policies in parallel. The case studies demonstrate that the proposed strategy reduces the economic cost and carbon emissions by 1%, and 0.5% compared to the single time‐scale strategy respectively.

Abstract Multiple lines of evidence confirm a widespread increase in vegetation growth across China over the past few decades. The relationship between vegetation growth and water availability is thought to be becoming stronger under climate change, that is, water constraints on vegetation growth have been increasing. However, our understanding of how water constraints have influenced these vegetation greening trends, especially those climate change‐driven ones, remains limited. Here, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of recent water constraints and their implications for vegetation growth in China between 1982 and 2015. By analyzing the spatiotemporal patterns of the relationship between vegetation growth and water availability, we reveal recent water constraints and their changes hidden within an overall greening trend in China. Further analysis demonstrates that two climate change‐related categories, defined broadly as “climate” (e.g., air temperature, precipitation, and so on) and “CO2” (i.e., atmospheric carbon dioxide), have exerted varying levels of importance in regulating vegetation growth across different water constraints. With increasing water constraints, the proportion of the climate‐dominated area has significantly risen, while that of the CO2‐dominated area has sharply declined. Our findings highlight that water constraints can mediate the dominance of climate and atmospheric CO2 on vegetation growth. This has the great potential to exacerbate the uncertainty surrounding current and future sustainable vegetation greening trends.

Abstract Floodplain wetlands are critical to the conservation of aquatic biodiversity and the ecological integrity of river networks. However, increasing drought severity and frequency caused by climate change can reduce floodplain wetlands' resistance and recovery capacities. Mollusks, which are common inhabitants of floodplain wetlands, are among the most vulnerable species to drought. However, the response of mollusk communities to drought has received little attention. Here, we investigated how the structure and functional traits of mollusk communities changed in response to varying hydrological conditions, including a flash drought (FD) in the Poyang Lake floodplain wetland. Our findings showed that FD strongly reduced mollusk abundance and biomass, decreased both α‐ and β‐diversity, and resulted in the extinction of bivalve taxa. A sudden shift in community trait structure was discovered due to the extinction of many species. These traits, which include deposit feeding, crawling, scraping, aerial respiration, and dormancy, help mollusks survive in FD and tolerate completely dry out of their Changhuchi habitat. Finally, we discovered that dissolved oxygen was an important controlling variable for mollusk communities during drought. Our findings provide a scientific basis for the management and conservation of floodplain wetland biodiversity in the context of increasing drought frequency and intensity.

Abstract Perovskite films with large crystal size, preferred orientation, and facile fabrication process, combining advantages of single‐crystal and polycrystalline films, have gained considerable attention recently. However, there is little research on the facet properties of perovskite films. Here, (111)‐ and (001)‐oriented perovskite films with bandgaps ranging from 1.53 to 1.77 eV, and systematically investigated their orientation‐dependent properties are achieved. The (111)‐oriented films show electron‐dominated traps and the (001)‐oriented films show hole‐dominated traps, which are related to their atomic arrangement at the surface. Compared with the (001)‐oriented films, the (111)‐oriented films exhibit lower work function and superior water/oxygen robustness. For the wide‐bandgap films, the lattice of the (001)‐oriented film provides an unobstructed passage for ion migration. Comparably, the (111)‐oriented films exhibit suppressed ion migration and excellent phase stability. The optimized unencapsulated solar cells based on both (001) and (111) orientations show a similar high efficiency of ≈23%. The (111)‐oriented solar cell exhibits excellent stability, maintaining 95% of its initial efficiency after 1500 h maximum power point (MPP) tracking test, and 97% initial efficiency after 3000 h aging in ambient conditions. This work paves the way for the rational design, controllable synthesis, and targeted optimization of uniaxial‐oriented perovskite films for various electronic applications.

Abstract Objective Hypoxia, which can considerably affect the tumor microenvironment, hinders the use of immunotherapy in bladder cancer (BLCA). Therefore, we aimed to identify reliable hypoxia‐related biomarkers to guide clinical immunotherapy in BLCA. Methods Using data downloaded from TCGA‐BLCA cohort, we determined BLCA subtypes which divide 408 samples into different subtypes. Tumor immune infiltration levels of two clusters were quantified using ssGSEA, MCPcounter, EPIC, ESTIMATE, and TIMER algorithms. Next, we constructed a hypoxia score based on the expression of hypoxia‐related genes. The IMvigor210 cohort and SubMap analysis were used to predict immunotherapeutic responses in patients with different hypoxia scores. Hub genes were screened using cytoscape, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and multispectral immunofluorescence were used to detect the spatial distribution of immune markers. Results Patients with BLCA were categorized into cluster1 (n = 227) and Cluster2 (n = 181). Immune infiltration and expression of immune markers were higher in Cluster1. Immune infiltration was also more obvious in the high‐hypoxia score group which related to a better predicted response to immunotherapy. IHC, and multispectral immunofluorescence confirmed the importance of TLR8 in immune infiltration and immune phenotype. Conclusions BLCA subtype can evaluate the infiltration of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment of different patients. Hypoxia score in this study could effectively predict immunotherapeutic responses in patients with BLCA. TLR8 may be a potential target for clinical immunotherapy.

Abstract The problems of insufficient recognition accuracy, poor real‐time performance and lack of consideration of actual working conditions in the process of intelligent construction of coal mines make this technology still in the research stage and not applied in practical engineering. The purpose of this paper is to establish an accurate and real‐time recognition model, which can quickly distinguish the vibration acceleration signals of coal and gangue under the influence of external factors such as impact position, velocity, and direction by using the different physical properties of coal and gangue particles. Therefore, the accuracy and real‐time of coal gangue recognition model established by different convolutional neural networks (CNN) structures and different position signal input are studied. First, to meet the real‐time requirements, an original CNN recognition model composed of single convolution layer and single pooling layer is established, and the data collected by seven sensors are input in the form of two‐dimensional matrix. However, the stability of the training and test results is insufficient. To solve this problem, once improved CNN (OI‐CNN) recognition model with multiconvolution layers and multipooling layers is built by deepening the network. The experimental results show that the stability and accuracy are improved, but the real‐time performance is poor. Furthermore, through parameter adjustment, the OI‐CNN is changed to the twice improved CNN (TI‐CNN), and the sensor data at different positions are input in the form of one‐dimensional vectors. The results show that the accuracy and real‐time performance of the TI‐CNN coal gangue recognition model are further improved. Finally, according to the research purpose of this paper, the weights of CNN indexes are given, and a multi‐index comprehensive evaluation system (MICES) is established. With the original CNN recognition model as the control, the OI‐CNN recognition model and the TI‐CNN recognition model at different positions are quantitatively compared to obtain the comprehensive evaluation scores of each model. The results show that the MICES of the coal gangue recognition model established based on the TI‐CNN structure and the data input of a single position sensor is the highest, while the sensor position has little effect on the recognition results.

Abstract Aim Nurses are key staff in the response to the COVID‐19 epidemic. The aim of present study was to assess Chinese clinical nurses' preparedness levels for COVID‐19 after the outbreak, as well as the associated demographic factors. Design The design was a cross‐sectional survey. Methods We distributed an online questionnaire to nurses from five eastern coastal area hospitals. The questionnaire collected demographic information, and included the nurses' preparedness to respond to COVID‐19 questionnaire (NPR COVID‐19). Results The total mean NPR COVID‐19 score was 200.99 (standard deviation = 33.60), and the psychological approaches subscale had the lowest mean score. Education and training were positively associated with the NPR COVID‐19 score. Nurses' characteristics, such as seniority, job category and educational level, were entered into the NPR COVID‐19 regression model, and seniority (≤5 years) showed the strongest negative association with NPR COVID‐19 scores (standard coefficient = −0.20). Conclusions Chinese nurse's preparedness to respond to COVID‐19 was adequate. Nurses with less than 5 years of work experience, nursing researchers and diploma‐educated nurses reported feeling a low preparedness to respond to COVID‐19. These nurses should receive specific training.

Abstract Background and Aims Endoscopic ultrasonography‐guided fine‐needle aspiration/biopsy (EUS‐FNA/B) is considered to be a first‐line procedure for the pathological diagnosis of pancreatic cancer owing to its high accuracy and low complication rate. The number of new cases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is increasing, and its accurate pathological diagnosis poses a challenge for cytopathologists. Our aim was to develop a hyperspectral imaging (HSI)‐based convolution neural network (CNN) algorithm to aid in the diagnosis of pancreatic EUS‐FNA cytology specimens. Methods HSI images were captured of pancreatic EUS‐FNA cytological specimens from benign pancreatic tissues (n = 33) and PDAC (n = 39) prepared using a liquid‐based cytology method. A CNN was established to test the diagnostic performance, and Attribution Guided Factorization Visualization (AGF‐Visualization) was used to visualize the regions of important classification features identified by the model. Results A total of 1913 HSI images were obtained. Our ResNet18‐SimSiam model achieved an accuracy of 0.9204, sensitivity of 0.9310 and specificity of 0.9123 (area under the curve of 0.9625) when trained on HSI images for the differentiation of PDAC cytological specimens from benign pancreatic cells. AGF‐Visualization confirmed that the diagnoses were based on the features of tumor cell nuclei. Conclusions An HSI‐based model was developed to diagnose cytological PDAC specimens obtained using EUS‐guided sampling. Under the supervision of experienced cytopathologists, we performed multi‐staged consecutive in‐depth learning of the model. Its superior diagnostic performance could be of value for cytologists when diagnosing PDAC.

Abstract Objective Immunotherapy extensively treats advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although immunotherapy is generally better tolerated than chemotherapy, it can cause multiple immune‐related adverse events (irAEs) involving multiple organs. Checkpoint inhibitor‐related pneumonitis (CIP) is a relatively uncommon irAE that, in severe cases, can be fatal. Potential risk factors for the occurrence of CIP are currently poorly understood. This study sought to develop a novel scoring system for predicting the risk of CIP based on a nomogram model. Methods We retrospectively collected advanced NSCLC patients who received immunotherapy at our institution between January 1, 2018, and December 30, 2021. All patients who met the criteria were randomly divided into the training set and testing set (in a ratio of 7:3), and cases fulfilling the CIP diagnostic criteria were screened. The patients' baseline clinical characteristics, laboratory tests, imaging, and treatment information were extracted from the electronic medical records. The risk factors associated with the occurrence of CIP were identified based on the results of logistic regression analysis on the training set, and a nomogram prediction model was developed. The discrimination and prediction accuracy of the model was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, the concordance index (C‐index), and the calibration curve. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to evaluate the clinical applicability of the model. Results The training set comprised 526 (CIP: 42 cases), and the testing set comprised 226 (CIP: 18 cases) patients, respectively. Objective Bone cement leakage is a major complication of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) while treating Kümmell's disease and it is a focus of close attention during the surgical procedure. The study aimed to investigate whether pre‐injecting a composite of bone cement and gelatine sponge (the “bone cement‐gelatine sponge composite”) before injecting bone cement during PVP aids in lowering the leakage rate in stage I and II Kümmell's disease. Methods This prospective analysis evaluated 74 patients with stage I and II Kümmell's disease who underwent PVP treatment at our hospital from December 2019 to December 2021. The participants were divided randomly into groups based on whether the bone cement‐gelatine sponge composite was used during the surgery. The two groups were the bone cement‐gelatine sponge composite group (GS group, comprising 37 patients) and the no bone cement‐gelatine sponge composite group (N‐GS group, comprising 37 patients). The independent samples t‐test and chi‐square test were employed to compare general information, operative time, cement injection volume, intraoperative bleeding, and bone cement leakage between the two groups. Additionally, the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Oswestry disability index (ODI), anterior vertebral height ratio (AVHR), and the kyphotic Cobb angle were compared between the two groups at the preoperative, 2 days postoperative, and 6 months postoperative stages using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results All patients were followed up for more than 6 months, with an average of (11.19 ± 2.21) months. No significant differences were observed in terms of the operative time, cement injection volume, and intraoperative bleeding between the two groups (P > 0.05). The incidence of bone cement leakage in the N‐GS group (32.43%) was significantly higher than that in the GS group (5.41%), and the difference was statistically significant (P 0.05). Conclusion The bone cement‐gelatine sponge composite intravertebral prefilling technique can lower bone cement leakage in stage I and II Kümmell's disease and can also relieve pain and improve vertebral body height.

Abstract Aims/Introduction The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the validation and application of the 2019 International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) risk stratification system among Chinese patients with diabetes. Materials and Methods A retrospective cohort study was carried out with 254 patients with diabetes, but without an active diabetic foot (DF) ulcer. Patients hospitalized from January to May 2017 were enrolled, and the follow‐up period was from January to May 2020. Patients were stratified into four risk groups based on the 2019 IWGDF risk stratification system. Results Of the 254 patients, four of 31 patients at risk 1 were diagnosed with DF within 3 years, whereas 12 of 26 patients at risk 2 and 16 of 20 patients at risk 3 developed DF. Abstract The damage of wind turbines suffered from lightning strikes has been a key issue for the safe and reliable operation of wind farms. Accurate determination of the annual lightning flash number to a wind turbine is essential for designing proper lightning protection measures. The interaction of downward and multiple upward leaders (MULs) is studied in this paper, which also considers the stochastic nature and branched behaviour of the lightning attachment phenomenon. Firstly, with an improved stochastic lightning model, the relationship among the striking distance, the height of wind turbines and the return stroke current is established. Moreover, a modified method for predicting the annual lightning flash number strikes to a wind turbine is proposed. The simulation results show that the striking distance and the collection area not only depend on the return stroke current, but also on the height and blade angle. Besides, the comparations between the calculation results and field statistics indicate that the conventional electric geometry model is not satisfied with the need of lightning protection for wind turbines. Note that there is only a difference of 4% between the modified method and the observation value. These quantitative researches provide the guidance of calculation results for the optimization of the blade lightning protection system (LPS) design.

Abstract Wind‐induced crop lodging can reduce agricultural production and impact food security. However, a systematic evaluation of large‐scale crop lodging and its drivers is lacking, mostly due to the limited observations available. Such knowledge gaps hinder the application of effective management practices to mitigate yield losses. Here, we quantify maize‐lodging induced by three consecutive typhoons in Northeast China in 2020 using direct crop canopy height observations from the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigations (GEDI) instrument and optical satellite imagery. We show that the canopy water‐related vegetation index provides a robust wall‐to‐wall mapping of crop lodging, supported by changes in GEDI canopy height. Our spatially contiguous lodging maps show that lodging intensity is mainly due to typhoon intensity (64.34%), with maize plantation fraction (11.94%) and phenology (7.94%) as secondary factors. The shelterbelt forest may partly alleviate the lodging risk, but its effect requires further investigation. Considering the recent expansion of maize cultivation and the poleward shift of landfalling typhoons alongside climate change, the lodging risk may increase for maize and further threaten China's food security.

Abstract Salicylic acid (SA) is a hydrolysis product and an active form of aspirin, and SA is found in a range of fruits and other food products. For food and drug and analysis there is a strong desire to detect SA. Since SA is a very small molecule, aptamers have advantages over antibodies for its detection. In this work, we used the library‐immobilization capture‐SELEX method to isolate aptamers for SA. After 17 rounds of selection, two main families of aptamers were isolated. The SA1 aptamer from family 1 has a Kd of 5.8 μM from a thioflavin T (ThT) fluorescence assay and 26.7 μM from isothermal titration calorimetry. The binding of other sequences was weaker compared to SA1. Based on mutation studies, the two conserved regions of SA1 were connected by two stems. Using ThT as a stain, a label‐free fluorescent sensor was tested for the detection of SA with a detection limit of 2.2 μM. A few similar molecules were tested including aspirin, and only p‐hydroxybenzoic acid showed a weak binding, indicating the high specificity of the SA1 aptamer. Finally, the SA1 aptamer was also tested in tomato juice and a similar binding performance was achieved.

Abstract Background It is well known that muscle disuse atrophy is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, which is implicated in reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) levels. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), a rate‐limiting enzyme in NAD+ biosynthesis, may serve as a novel strategy to treat muscle disuse atrophy by reversing mitochondrial dysfunction. Methods To investigate the effects of NAMPT on the prevention of disuse atrophy of skeletal muscles predominantly composed of slow‐twitch (type I) or fast‐twitch (type II) fibres, rabbit models of rotator cuff tear‐induced supraspinatus muscle atrophy and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) transection‐induced extensor digitorum longus (EDL) atrophy were established and then administered NAMPT therapy. Muscle mass, fibre cross‐sectional area (CSA), fibre type, fatty infiltration, western blot, and mitochondrial function were assayed to analyse the effects and molecular mechanisms of NAMPT in preventing muscle disuse atrophy. Abstract Background Homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) is a well‐known biomarker which could predict poly‐ADP ribose polymerase 1 (PARP) inhibitor and platinum drug response. As an aggressive cancer, small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) is sensitive to platinum drugs, but relapse occurs rapidly. Herein, we aim to illustrate the genomic alteration patterns of homologous recombination repair (HRR)‐related genes in a Chinese SCLC cohort and further analyze the relationship among HRR gene mutations and known biomarkers of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) response, including tumor mutation burden (TMB) and programmed cell death‐ligand 1 (PD‐L1) expression. Methods Next‐generation sequencing (NGS)‐based target capture sequencing of 543 cancer‐related genes was performed to analyze the genomic profiles of 133 Chinese SCLC patients, and TMB was calculated. PD‐L1 expression was evaluated in 90 out of 133 patients using the SP142 PD‐L1 immunohistochemistry assay. Results Among the 133 patients with SCLC, 47 (35.3%) had HRR gene mutations. ATM (8.3%) was the most frequently mutated HRR gene in the cohort, followed by NBN (4.5%). Pathogenic somatic and germline mutations of HRR genes were identified in 11 (23.4%) and 4 (8.5%) patients, respectively. HRR gene mutations cooccurred with KMT2D gene mutations. There were several differences in genomic alterations between patients with HRR gene mutations (HRR‐Mut) and without HRR mutations (HRR‐WT). The results revealed that TP53 and RB1 were commonly mutated genes in both groups. Mutations in the KMT2D gene and genes in the RTK‐RAS pathway occurred more frequently in the HRR‐Mut group. Furthermore, we found that mutations in HRR genes were associated with high TMB (Wilcoxon, p = 0.048), but there was no correlation of HRR gene mutation status with PD‐L1 expression. Conclusions We exhaustively describe the genomic alteration profile of Chinese SCLC patients and provide further evidence that HRR gene mutations are prevalent in SCLC patients.

Abstract Aims Heart failure (HF) remains a major public health problem with increasing prevalence in China. This study evaluated the clinical performance and quality measures for HF management to identify gaps in the standardization of care for patients hospitalized for HF in China. Methods and results Following the results of China‐HF stage I (2012–2015), the second stage of the China‐HF was launched in 2017. Among 113 hospitals with ≥100 cases, the China‐HF Stage II assessed the quality of care measures for HF and compared results with previous data in China and the US‐based Get with The Guidelines‐Heart Failure (GWTG‐HF) registries. In total, 34 938 patients hospitalized with HF were enrolled from January 2017 to October 2020. Echocardiographic left ventricular function and natriuretic peptide test were performed in 93.7% and 93.0% of the cases, respectively. Adherence to standardized guidelines in China‐HF stage II was higher than that in the China‐HF stage I, but generally lower than GWTG‐HF registry with 78.2% of eligible patients was prescribed oral diuretics, 78.7% renin‐angiotensin‐system inhibitors, and 82.2% beta‐blockers. Implantable cardioverter‐defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices were implanted in 3.9% and 14.6%, respectively. In contrast, the proportion of eligible patients discharged with spironolactone (87.8%) was higher than GWTG‐HF. The median length of hospitalization was 9 (6, 12) days, and 938 (2.8%) patients died or withdrew from treatment during hospitalization. Conclusions Despite significant improvements in the use of guideline‐recommended testing and therapy, there remain major gaps in quality of care for patients hospitalized for HF in China that are generally larger than gaps observed in the United States.

Abstract Background As a polyphenolic compound originated from the food spice turmeric, curcumin (CUR) has various pharmacological effects, such as anti‐inflammatory, antioxidation, antiproliferative, and antiangiogenic activities. Psoriasis is centered on the overproduction of Th1‐ and Th2‐related cytokines (e.g., interleukin [IL]‐23, IL‐17, TNF‐α, IL‐22), which is involved in the occurrence and development of its pathogenesis. However, whether CUR is involved in the treatment of psoriasis and its specific mechanisms are not fully understood. Methods In this study, we detected the therapeutic effect of CUR (100 mg/kg/day) on IMQ‐induced dermatitis in mice, analyzed by PASI scores, ELISA, HE staining, immunofluorescence. Moreover, we further confirmed the alteration in the relative abundance of the gut microbiota through 16sRNA to explore whether CUR could regulate the gut microbiota of IMQ‐induced mice. Result Through intragastric administration, CUR can alleviate psoriasis‐like lesions of mice by decreasing PASI scores, reducing the level of IL‐6, IL‐17A, IL‐22, IL‐23, TNF‐α, and TGF‐β1, promoting the expression of IL‐10. Moreover, 16sRNA sequencing revealed that CUR could regulate the alteration in the abundance alteration of gut microbiota related to inflammation, such as Alistipes, Mucispirillum, and Rikenella at genus level. The correlation analysis further confirmed the close association between important microflora and psoriasis‐like inflammation indicators. Conclusions CUR exerts the effect of alleviating dermatitis of psoriatic mice by regulating Th‐17 related inflammatory factors. Moreover, the changes in gut microbiota via CUR may be another factor of relieving IMQ‐induced lesions in mice. Therefore, CUR may be a highly promising candidate for the treatment of psoriasis.

Abstract Background The wide applicability of the Naples prognostic score (NPS) is still worthy of further study in gastric cancer (GC). This study aimed to construct a New‐NPS based on the differences in immunity and nutrition in patients with upper and lower gastrointestinal tumors to help obtain an individualized prediction of prognosis. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent radical gastrectomy from April 2014 to September 2016. The cutoff values of the preoperative neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte‐to‐monocyte ratio (LMR), serum albumin (Alb), and total cholesterol (TC) were calculated by ROC curve analysis. ROC and t‐ROC were used to evaluate the accuracy of the prognostic markers. The Kaplan–Meier method and log‐rank test were used to analyze the overall survival probability. Univariate and multivariate analyses based on Cox risk regression were used to show the independent predictors. The nomogram was made by R studio. The predictive accuracy of nomogram was assessed using a calibration plot, concordance index (C‐index), and decision curve. Results A total of 737 patients were included in training cohort, 411 patients were included in validation cohort. ROC showed that the New‐NPS was more suitable for predicting the prognosis of GC patients. NPS = 2 indicated a poor prognosis. Abstract The Kelch repeat and BTB domain containing 7 (KBTBD7) was first cloned in 2010. Its function as a transcriptional activator and a substrate adaptor during the ubiquitination process was soon found. KBTBD7 was shown to be involved in excessive inflammation after myocardial infarction, brain development, and neurofibromin stability. However, studies on the role of KBTBD7 in solid tumors, especially lung cancer, are still lacking. Therefore, in this study, we investigate the role of KBTBD7 in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Immunohistochemical staining of 102 paired NSCLC and peritumoral normal specimens indicated that KBTBD7 was highly expressed in NSCLC tissues and positively correlated with the histological type, P‐TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, and tumor size. KBTBD7 was also well‐expressed in NSCLC cell lines, and downregulation of KBTBD7 resulted in inhibition of NSCLC cell proliferation and invasion. Further investigation showed that KBTBD7 enhanced ubiquitin‐dependent degradation of PTEN, thus activating EGFR/PI3K/AKT signaling and promoting NSCLC cell proliferation and invasion by regulating CCNE1, CDK4, P27, ZEB‐1, Claudin‐1, ROCK1, MMP‐9, and E‐cadherin protein levels. Our results indicate that KBTBD7 may be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of NSCLC.

Abstract Aim To explore and describe cervical cancer patients’ benefit‐finding experiences in rural China. Design The phenomenological approach was used in this qualitative study. Methods In‐depth, semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 21 patients, from July to August of 2019. The data, which were collected, were analysed using the Colaizzi analysis procedure. Results According to the analysis results, the four benefit‐finding experience themes of the cervical cancer patients were, respectively, determined to be as follows: Health cognition and behaviour changes; reshaping of personal strength; focussing on relationships with others; and facing life positively. Conclusions The individual's cognition of health and their own strong qualities, and their external social support systems and information obtained and transmitted through interpersonal interactions, can promote the benefit finding. The findings suggest that medical staff should understand the traditional concepts of their patients, use their positive psychological potential, and build targeted nursing measures.

Abstract Here, we investigate the precoding schemes for the downlink data transmission of a time‐division duplex cell‐free massive multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) system with channel aging, which arises from the user mobility. Closed‐form spectral efficiency (SE) expressions of the downlink with the normalized conjugate beamforming (NCB), and the full‐pilot zero‐forcing (FZF), are derived, which are used for the analytical system performance evaluation. Then, a novel combinatorial precoding scheme with enhanced system SE performance, which adopts either NCB or FZF according to each user channel aging condition, is proposed. Moreover, a pilot allocation strategy is proposed to alleviate the extra interference brought by the combinatorial precoding scheme. Also, a statistical channel cooperative power control is employed to further improve the performance for all the above precoding schemes. Numerical results show that the proposed precoding scheme can substantially improve the average downlink SE.

Abstract The study of fire history and driving mechanisms at long time scales can provide a theoretical background for future fire management in forested regions. The alpine lake sediments from Daye Lake in the Qinling Mountains, east‐central China, were used to explore the influence of climate, vegetation and human activity on fires since the LGM, based on charcoals and black carbon. During the last glacial period, fire activity was mostly controlled by regional aridity under a weak East Asian summer monsoon, while human‐induced fires were commonly dominated in the late Holocene. Fire activity was found to be linked to biomass through temperature variability. The biofuel dominated by conifers induced high intensity fires in the last glacial, and herbs contributed more to the high fire frequency over the mid‐late Holocene. With predicted future rising temperatures, increased vegetation cover and extreme climate events may increase the fire risk in the region.

Abstract Background The aim of this prospective, pilot, single‐arm phase II trial was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of anlotinib combined with etoposide and platinum‐based regimens in the first‐line treatment of extensive‐stage small cell lung cancer (ES‐SCLC). Methods This phase II study was conducted at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center between December 2018 and December 2020. All patients received standard chemotherapy (etoposide plus cisplatin/carboplatin) consisting of four courses and anlotinib at 12 mg once per day for 2 weeks followed by a one‐week rest. Anlotinib administration was continued until disease progression, intolerable adverse events (AEs) or patient withdrawal from the study. The primary outcome measure was progression‐free survival (PFS). The secondary outcome measures were overall survival (OS), objective control rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR) and AEs. Results Thirty‐seven patients were included in this study, and 30 patients were eligible for efficacy analysis. ORR and DCR were 90.0% and 96.7%, respectively. The estimated PFS and OS were 6.0 months (95% CI: 1.1–11.9 months) and 14.0 months (95% CI: 8.6–19.4 months), respectively. No unexpected adverse effects were reported. Hypertension (20/37, 54.1%), anemia (16/37, 43.2%), alopecia (15/37, 40.5%), elevated transaminases (9/37, 24.3%) and alkaline phosphatase (9/37, 24.3%) were the most commonly reported AEs. Thirteen patients (35.1%) reported grade 3–5 AEs. No treatment‐related deaths occurred during this study. Conclusion The addition of anlotinib to standard etoposide/platinum chemotherapy achieved encouraging PFS and OS in previously untreated ES‐SCLC patients, with an acceptable tolerability profile and no new safety signals observed.

Abstract Rapid and accurate detection of microorganisms is critical to clinical diagnosis. As Raman spectroscopy promises label‐free and culture‐free detection of biomedical objects, it holds the potential to rapidly identify microorganisms in a single step. To stabilize the microorganism for spectrum collection and to increase the accuracy of real‐time identification, we propose an optofluidic method for single microorganism detection in microfluidics using optical‐tweezing‐based Raman spectroscopy with artificial neural network. A fiber optical tweezer was incorporated into a microfluidic channel to generate optical forces that trap different species of microorganisms at the tip of the tweezer and their Raman spectra were simultaneously collected. An artificial neural network was designed and employed to classify the Raman spectra of the microorganisms, and the identification accuracy reached 94.93%. This study provides a promising strategy for rapid and accurate diagnosis of microbial infection on a lab‐on‐a‐chip platform.

Abstract With the fast development of wind power generation, many countries actively encourage wind power to trade in the medium‐long term market. However, the traditional forward contracts from medium‐long term markets are only suitable to conventional power generation enterprises, instead of wind farms. To facilitate the accommodation of wind power in the medium‐long term market, this paper focuses on two problems: The framework of the block‐based forward contract trading method and the procurement strategy of retailers with block‐based contracts. First, a novel block‐based forward contract is proposed, where the time attributes, that is, starting and ending time, and power during each period are stipulated. Aggregating all the block‐based forward contracts will naturally form the power supply curve, which can provide boundary information for wind farms when they take part in other markets. Secondly, a chance‐constrained procurement strategy model is proposed for retailers, where the uncertainty of wind power generation, constraints of block‐based contracts, and quota obligations of retailers are considered. Furthermore, a bilinear Benders decomposition algorithm with a variant of Jensen's inequalities is applied to solve the proposed model. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and method, which is computationally efficient in solving the chance‐constrained procurement strategy problem.

Abstract The high penetration of uncertain resources challenges the security of power system operation. By taking the impact of rescheduling under contingencies into consideration, reliability‐constrained unit commitment (RCUC) is developed to address this challenge. Although several efforts have been made in modelling reliability constraints, the existing methods can only manage oversimplified low‐order temporal‐independent contingencies without considering wide‐range contingencies or their state‐transition‐process issue. To quantify the impact of rescheduling on the normal‐state scheduling process denoted by UC problem, this paper builds up a Bayesian inference method for encoding reliability constraints in wide‐range temporal‐dependent contingencies. Three predictors, for example, expected‐generator‐rescheduling‐power, expected‐energy‐not‐serviced and lost‐of‐load‐probability, are selected to describe the possible corrective behaviours in rescheduling process and quantified by using Bayesian inference method. Then, these predictors are reformatted as a set of linearized constraints to be incorporated into UC. The proposed RCUC comprehensively considers the effect of rescheduling in wide‐range temporal‐dependent contingencies. Therefore, it can reveal the influence of generator rescheduling in wide‐range contingencies and keep better reliability performance than those methods reported in previous RCUC studies. The modified IEEE 30‐bus test system and IEEE 118‐bus test system are used to show the proposed model's effectiveness.

Abstract Blockade of immune checkpoints as a strategy of cancer cells to overcome the immune response has received ample attention in cancer research recently. In particular, expression of PD‐L1 by various cancer cells has become a paradigm in this respect. Delivery of PD‐L1 to its site of action occurs either by local diffusion, or else by transport via small extracellular vesicles (sEVs, commonly referred to as exosomes). Many steps of sEVs formation, their packaging with PD‐L1 and their release into the extracellular space have been studied in detail. The likely dependence of release on Ca2+‐signaling, however, has received little attention. This is surprising, since the intracellular Ca2+‐concentration is known as a prominent regulator of many secretory processes. Here, we report on the roles of three Ca2+‐dependent proteins in regulating release of PD‐L1‐containing sEVs, as well as on the growth of tumors in mouse models. We show that sEVs release in cancer cell lines is Ca2+‐dependent and the knockdown of the gene coding the Ca2+‐channel protein ORAI1 reduces Ca2+‐signals and release of sEVs. Consequently, the T cell response is reinvigorated and tumor progression in mouse models is retarded. Furthermore, analysis of protein expression patterns in samples from human cancer tissue shows that the ORAI1 gene is significantly upregulated. Such upregulation is identified as an unfavorable prognostic factor for survival of patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer. We show that reduced Ca2+‐signaling after knockdown of ORAI1 gene also compromises the activity of melanophilin and Synaptotagmin‐like protein 2, two proteins, which are important for correct localization of secretory organelles within cancer cells and their transport to sites of exocytosis. Thus, the Ca2+‐channel ORAI1 and Ca2+‐dependent proteins of the secretion pathway emerge as important targets for understanding and manipulating immune checkpoint blockade by PD‐L1.

Abstract Platelets may serve as a perfect peripheral source for exploring diagnostic biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD); however, the molecular linkage between platelet and the brain is missing. To find the common altered and driving molecules in both brain and the platelet, we performed an integrated analysis of our platelet omics and brain omics reported in the literature, and analyzed their correlations with AD‐specific pathology and cognitive impairment. By integrating the gene and protein expression profiles from 269 AD patients, we deduced 239 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) appeared in both brain and the platelet, and 70.3% of them had consistent changes. Further analysis demonstrated that the altered brain and peripheral regulations were pinpointed into 10 imbalanced pathways. We also found that 117 DEPs, including ADAM10, were closely associated to the AD‐specific β‐amyloid and tau pathologies; and the changes of IDH3B and RTN1 had a potential diagnostic value for cognitive impairment analyzed by machine learning. Finally, we identified that HMOX2 and SERPINA3 could serve as driving molecules in neurodegeneration, and they were increased and decreased in AD patients, respectively. Together, this integrated brain and platelet omics provides a valuable resource for establishing efficient peripheral diagnostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets for AD.

Abstract A recently developed synthetic retinoid abrogates proliferation and induces apoptosis of drug‐resistant malignant‐cancer‐stem‐cell‐like cells. However, the underlying mechanisms of how the synthetic retinoid induces cancer‐stem‐cell‐like cell tumor‐repopulating cell (TRC) apoptosis are elusive. Here, it is shown that although the retinoid and conventional anticancer drugs cisplatin, all‐trans retinoic acid, and tazarotene all inhibit cytoskeletal tension and decondense chromatin prior to inducing TRC apoptosis, half‐maximal inhibitory concentration of the retinoid is 20‐fold lower than those anticancer drugs. The synthetic retinoid induces retinoic acid receptor gamma (RARγ) translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, leading to reduced RARγ binding to Cdc42 promoter and Cdc42 downregulation, which decreases filamentous‐actin (F‐actin) and inhibits cytoskeletal tension. Elevating F‐actin or upregulating histone 3 lysine 9 trimethylation decreases retinoid‐induced DNA damage and apoptosis of TRCs. The combinatorial treatment with a chromatin decondensation molecule and the retinoid inhibits tumor metastasis in mice more effectively than the synthetic retinoid alone. These findings suggest a strategy of lowering cell tension and decondensing chromatin to enhance DNA damage to abrogate metastasis of cancer‐stem‐cell‐like cells with high efficacy.

Abstract Background Human Tau (hTau) accumulation and synapse loss are two pathological hallmarks of tauopathies. However, whether and how hTau exerts toxic effects on synapses remain elusive. Methods Mutated hTau (P301S) was overexpressed in the N2a cell line, primary hippocampal neurons and hippocampal CA3. Western blotting and quantitative polymerase chain reaction were applied to examine the protein and mRNA levels of synaptic proteins. The protein interaction was tested by co‐immunoprecipitation and proximity ligation assays. Memory and emotion status were evaluated by a series of behavioural tests. The transcriptional activity of nuclear factor‐erythroid 2–related factor 2 (NRF2) was detected by dual luciferase reporter assay. Electrophoresis mobility shift assay and chromosome immunoprecipitation were conducted to examine the combination of NRF2 to specific anti‐oxidative response element (ARE) sequences. Neuronal morphology was analysed after Golgi staining. Results Overexpressing P301S decreased the protein levels of post‐synaptic density protein 93 (PSD93), PSD95 and synapsin 1 (SYN1). Simultaneously, NRF2 was decreased, whereas Kelch‐like ECH‐associated protein 1 (KEAP1) was elevated. Further, we found that NRF2 could bind to the specific AREs of DLG2, DLG4 and SYN1 genes, which encode PSD93, PSD95 and SYN1, respectively, to promote their expression. Overexpressing NRF2 ameliorated P301S‐reduced synaptic proteins and synapse. By means of acetylation at K312, P301S increased the protein level of KEAP1 via inhibiting KEAP1 degradation from ubiquitin–proteasome pathway, thereby decreasing NRF2 and reducing synapse. Blocking the P301S–KEAP1 interaction at K312 rescued the P301S‐suppressed expression of synaptic proteins and memory deficits with anxiety efficiently. Conclusions P301S‐hTau could acetylate KEAP1 to trigger synaptic toxicity via inhibiting the NRF2/ARE pathway. These findings provide a novel and potential target for the therapeutic intervention of tauopathies.

Abstract Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the leading causes of childhood visual impairment and blindness. However, there are still very few effective pharmacological interventions for ROP. Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6)‐mediated disassembly of photoreceptor cilia has recently been implicated as an early event in the pathogenesis of ROP. Herein it is shown that enhanced expression of HDAC6 by intravitreal injection of adenoviruses encoding HDAC6 induces the typical pathological changes associated with ROP in mice, including disruption of the membranous disks of photoreceptor outer segments and a decrease in electroretinographic amplitudes. Hdac6 transgenic mice exhibit similar ROP‐related defects in retinal structures and functions and disassembly of photoreceptor cilia, whereas Hdac6 knockout mice are resistant to oxygen change‐induced retinal defects. It is further shown that blocking HDAC6‐mediated cilium disassembly by intravitreal injection of small‐molecule compounds protect mice from ROP‐associated retinal defects. The findings indicate that pharmacological targeting of the HDAC6‐cilium axis may represent a promising strategy for the prevention of ROP.

Abstract Organic ferroelectrics, as a type of crystalline compound, are generally solution processing. However, for most crystalline compounds, the changing of solvent would not influence the crystalline phase, let alone their physical performance. Here, the solvent selective effect occurs in the iodinated adamantanone ferroelectrics. By changing the solvent with different polarities, the ferroelectric crystals can be induced in two different phases, which is unprecedented to the knowledge. More strikingly, this solvent‐induced transformation could realize the physical performance optimization in the orthorhombic phase (orth‐I‐OA, obtained from ethanol) with a stronger second harmonic generation (SHG) response, greater piezoelectric coefficient d33 of 5 pC N−1, and larger spontaneous polarization (Ps) of 3.43 µC cm−2 than those of monoclinic one (mono‐I‐OA, obtained from ethyl acetate). Such an intriguing phenomenon might be closely related to solvent polarity. Based on the quantitative and qualitative analyses, the similar interaction energies of these two phases suggest that their transformation could be easily realized via changing the solvent. This work provides new insights into the chemical design and performance optimization of organic ferroelectrics.

Machine learning techniques, especially deep learning algorithms have been widely utilized to deal with different kinds of research problems in wireless communications. In this article, we investigate the secrecy rate maximization problem in a non-orthogonal multiple access network based on deep learning approach. In this non-orthogonal multiple access network, the base station intends to transmit two integrated information: a confidential information to user 1 (the strong user) and a broadcast information to user 1 and user 2. In addition, there exists an eavesdropper that intends to decode the confidential information due to the broadcast nature of radio waves. Hence, we formulate the optimization problem as a secrecy rate maximization problem. We first solve this problem by employing convex optimization technique, then we generate the training, validation, and test dataset. We propose a deep neural network–based approach to learn to optimize the resource allocations. The advantages of the proposed deep neural network are the capabilities to achieve low complexity and latency resource allocations. Simulation results are provided to show that the proposed deep neural network approach is capable of reaching near-optimal secrecy rate performance with significantly reduced computational time, when compared with the benchmark conventional approach.

Abstract Optogenetics has become a widely used technique in neuroscience research, capable of controlling neuronal activity with high spatiotemporal precision and cell‐type specificity. Expressing exogenous opsins in the selected cells can induce neuronal activation upon light irradiation, and the activation depends on the power of incident light. However, high optical power can also lead to off‐target neuronal activation or even cell damage. Limiting the incident power, but enhancing power distribution to the targeted neurons, can improve optogenetic efficiency and reduce off‐target effects. Here, the use of optical lenses made of polystyrene microspheres is demonstrated to achieve effective focusing of the incident light of relatively low power to neighboring neurons via photonic jets. The presence of microspheres significantly localizes and enhances the power density to the target neurons both in vitro and ex vivo, resulting in increased inward current and evoked action potentials. In vivo results show optogenetic stimulation with microspheres that can evoke significantly more motor behavior and neuronal activation at lowered power density. In all, a proof‐of‐concept of a strategy is demonstrated to increase the efficacy of optogenetic neuromodulation using pulses of reduced optical power.

Abstract Increasing atmospheric CO2 and associated global warming are expected to alter the global hydrological cycle, thereby posing widespread threats to freshwater availability. However, future hydrological projections differ greatly between models, particularly over the tropical regions. The large difference between model projections directly limits policy planning efforts, and the responsible modeling processes remain unclear. Here, we identify the primary processes accounting for model differences in tropical hydrological changes using multiple CO2 sensitivity experiments in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project. We show that differences in projected changes to tropical evapotranspiration, precipitation, and surface water availability mainly arise from model representations of vegetation cover and stomatal conductance responses to elevated CO2 and associated changes in atmospheric moisture and circulation. Atmospheric responses to sea surface warming contribute additionally to the divergence in hydrological projections. Given the importance of vegetation responses to elevated CO2 and associated atmosphere feedbacks, our results underscore the need to improve representations of the vegetation physiological response to rising CO2 and its coupling to the atmosphere, to provide reliable tropical hydrological projections.

Abstract National scale projections of bioenergy crop yields and their environmental impacts are essential to identify appropriate locations to place bioenergy crops and ensure sustainable land use strategies. In this study, we used the process‐based Daily Century (DAYCENT) model with site‐specific environmental data to simulate sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) biomass yield, soil organic carbon (SOC) change, and nitrous oxide emissions across cultivated lands in the continental United States. The simulated rainfed dry biomass productivity ranged from 0.8 to 19.2 Mg ha−1 year−1, with a spatiotemporal average of 9.7‐2.4+2.1 Mg ha−1 year−1, and a coefficient of variation of 35%. The average SOC sequestration and direct nitrous oxide emission rates were simulated as 0.79‐0.45+0.38 Mg CO2e ha−1 year−1 and 0.38‐0.06+0.04 Mg CO2e ha−1 year−1, respectively. Compared to field‐observed biomass yield data at multiple locations, model predictions of biomass productivity showed a root mean square error (RMSE) of 5.6 Mg ha−1 year−1. In comparison to the multi State (n = 21) NASS database, our results showed RMSE of 5.5 Mg ha−1 year−1. Model projections of baseline SOC showed RMSE of 1.9 kg/m2 in comparison to a recently available continental SOC stock dataset. The model‐predicted N2O emissions are close to 1.25% of N input. Our results suggest 10.2 million ha of cultivated lands in the Southern and Lower Midwestern United States will produce >10 Mg ha−1 year−1 with net carbon sequestration under rainfed conditions. Cultivated lands in Upper Midwestern states including Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Michigan, and North Dakota showed lower sorghum biomass productivity (average: 6.9 Mg ha−1 year−1) with net sequestration (average: 0.13 Mg CO2e ha−1 year−1). Our national‐scale spatially explicit results are critical inputs for robust life cycle assessment of bioenergy production systems and land use‐based climate change mitigation strategies.

Abstract Long non‐coding RNA (lncRNA) is emerging as a pivotal regulator in tumorigenesis and aggressive progression. Here, we focused on an oncogenic lncRNA, ARAP1 antisense RNA 1 (ARAP1‐AS1), which was notably upregulated in cervical cancer (CC) tissues, cell lines and serum. High ARAP1‐AS1 expression was closely associated with larger tumor size, advanced FIGO stage as well as lymph node metastasis. Importantly, it was identified as an effective diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for CC. In vitro and in vivo assays showed that knockdown of ARAP1‐AS1 inhibited, while overexpression of ARAP1‐AS1 promoted CC cell growth and dissemination. Stepwise mechanistic dissection unveiled that ARAP1‐AS1 could directly interact with PSF to release PTB, resulting in accelerating the internal ribosome entry site (IRES)‐driven translation of proto‐oncogene c‐Myc, thereby facilitating CC development and progression. Moreover, c‐Myc was able to transcriptionally activate ARAP1‐AS1 by directly binding to the E‐box motif located on ARAP1‐AS1 promoter. Taken together, our findings clearly reveal the crucial role of ARAP1‐AS1 in CC tumorigenesis and metastasis via regulation of c‐Myc translation, targeting ARAP1‐AS1 and its related regulatory loop implicates the therapeutic possibility for CC patients.

Limited by the effective launch capacity of a rocket, the deployable antenna is very important in the design of spaceborne antenna array. Compared to traditional deployable antenna, flexible coilable antenna array has higher surface precision and better vibration control and therefore is more suitable for high frequency communication. In order to minimize the weight of satellite and reduce cost of its launch, a design guideline to the geometry parameters of flexible coilable antenna array is crucial. Existing models cannot be directly applied to interaction and large deformation between coilable membrane and conical spiral antenna in the flexible coilable antenna array. Hence, the geometry parameters of the conical spiral structure and the thickness of the coilable membrane in the flexible coilable antenna array have not been optimized yet. In this paper, the interaction between the coilable membrane and the concial spiral antenna is analyzed in the antenna array. A concise formula is derived to predict the critical force that flattens the conical spiral antenna by a coiling scroll. Combined with a theoretical model to predict the deformation of the membrane, the model provides an important theoretical support for the lightweight design and mechanical design of flexible coilable antenna array, such as the thickness of the coilable membrane. The proposed design is validated by experiments. The above findings have potential applications in the effective reduction of antenna array weight and satellite launch costs.

Abstract Intracellular thermometry provides important information about the physiological activity of single cells and has been implemented using diverse temperature‐sensitive materials as nanoprobes. However, measuring the temperature of specific organelles or subcellular structures is challenging because it requires precise positioning of the nanoprobes. Here, it is shown that dispersed fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs) endocytosed in living cells can be aggregated into microspheres using optical forces and used as intracellular temperature probes. The aggregation of the FNDs and electromagnetic resonance between individual nanodiamonds in the microspheres lead to a sevenfold intensity enhancement of 546‐nm laser excitation. With the assistance of a scanning optical tweezing system, the FND microspheres can be precisely patterned and positioned within the cells. By measuring the fluorescence spectra of the microspheres, the temperatures at different locations within the cells are detected. The method provides an approach to the constructing and positioning of nanoprobes in an intracellular manner, which has potential applications in high‐precision and flexible single‐cell analysis.

The radial fluid flow in fractures is affected by the size of the inner diameter and the position of the outer diameter, but the influence of the two factors on the flow velocity remains unclear. This study reveals the relationship through the coupled shear flow experiments and numerical simulations. Experimental results show that the fracture aperture is decreased by 0.175 mm under the unit effective stress, with the increase of 0.902 MPa in the shear stress. COMSOL is used to simulate the seepage of fractures under different inner and outer diameters. Simulation results show that the transition from nonlinear to linear flow occurs in the radial direction when the hydraulic pressure is 0.2 and 0.4 MPa, and the positions of linear flow are 42 mm and 71 mm. The effect of the fracture surface results in a stratified flow velocity when the fluid flow enters the fracture aperture. Increasing the inner diameter raises the flow rate but decreases the maximum flow velocity. The maximum velocity difference can be as much as three times when the inner diameter difference is 6 mm. The seepage width of radial flow has a nonlinear relationship with the inner and outer diameters. The growth rate of the seepage width decreases as the ratio of the outer to the inner diameter increases. The modified cubic law considering the radius effect is proposed to improve the calculation accuracy of radial flow.

To study the dynamic response of shallow buried tunnel lining by drilling and blasting method, ABAQUS simulation software was used to establish a tunnel blasting finite element model based on the consideration of in situ stress. Dynamic static coupling numerical simulation was conducted to analyze the vibration response and stress response of tunnel lining. The simulation results were compared and analyzed with field monitoring data to obtain the dynamic response law of tunnel lining. The results show that in the same tunnel lining section, the vibration velocity response in the Y direction is the largest and the vibration velocity response in the Z direction is the smallest. The location of the peak particle velocity of the tunnel lining in three directions appears differently, and the location of the maximum MISES stress appears differently for different excavation sections. The arch shoulder is most affected by horizontal vibration in the X direction, and the vault is most affected by horizontal vibration in the Y direction. The dynamic response at the foot or arch shoulder position away from the lining section of the working face will show the “whip tip effect.” A sudden change in MISES stress occurs at the location of the footing in the 315° direction of the liner section, and the liner is not uniformly stressed in this range.

In recent years, China's express delivery market has developed rapidly in the context of a booming economy. However, logistics costs are still high, which will affect the decision-making and policy making of relevant departments. Therefore, it is essential to optimize the last-mile assignment problem (LMAP) to meet the consumer’s demand for delivery time and reduce economic expenditure. The LMAP of express delivery requires multiple packages to be delivered to different destinations. Finding the path with the minimum delivery cost and time is an NP-hard problem, and it is impossible to obtain the optimal solution by enumerating all possible answers. This study proposes a new express delivery path planning method based on a clone adaptive ant colony optimization (CAACO) to find suboptimal solutions. Moreover, a new distribution cost fitness function constructed by weighing the economic expenditure and time of express delivery is designed. Specifically, a new adaptive operator and a novel clone operator are also designed to accelerate the speed of convergence. Finally, by comparing the performance of CAACO with ant colony optimization (ACO), simulated annealing (SA), and genetic algorithm (GA), the effectiveness of CAACO in solving the express LAMP is verified. In the simulation results, it is obvious that the economic expenditure and time of express delivery based on the CAACO are lower than ACO, SA, and GA, and the convergence speed is also faster than the SA and GA. It can be seen that CAACO has valuable benefits in solving LMAP.

Abstract Large uncertainties in North American terrestrial carbon fluxes hinder regional climate projections. Terrestrial biosphere models (TBMs), the essential tools for understanding continental‐scale carbon cycle, diverge on whether temperate forests or croplands dominate carbon uptake in North America. Evidence from novel photosynthetic proxies, such as those based on chlorophyll fluorescence, has cast doubt on the “weak cropland, strong forest” carbon uptake patterns simulated by most TBMs. However, no systematic evaluation of TBMs has yet been attempted to pin down space‐time patterns that are most consistent with regional CO2 observational constraints. Here, we leverage atmospheric CO2 observations and satellite‐observed photosynthetic proxies to understand emergent space‐time patterns in North American carbon fluxes from a large suite of TBMs and data‐driven models. To do so, we evaluate how well the atmospheric signals resulting from carbon flux estimates reproduce the space‐time variability in atmospheric CO2, as is observed by a network of continuous‐monitoring towers over North America. Models with gross or net carbon fluxes that are consistent with the observed CO2 variability share a salient feature of growing‐season carbon uptake in Midwest US croplands. Conversely, the remaining models place most growing‐season uptake in boreal or temperate forests. Differences in model explanatory power depend mainly on the simulated annual cycles of cropland uptake—especially, the timing of peak uptake—rather than the distribution of annual mean fluxes across biomes. Our results suggest that improved model representation of cropland phenology is crucial to robust, policy‐relevant estimation of North American carbon exchange.

Dysregulation of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) is known to be involved in numerous human diseases, including lung cancer. However, the precise biological functions of most lncRNA remain to be elucidated. Here, we identified a novel up‐regulated lncRNA, LINC01436 (RefSeq: NR_110419.1), in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). High expression of LINC01436 was significantly associated with poor overall survival. Notably, LINC01436 expression was transcriptionally repressed by E2F6 under normoxia, and the inhibitory effect was relieved in a hypoxic microenvironment. Gain‐ and loss‐of‐function studies revealed that LINC01436 acted as a proto‐oncogene by promoting lung cancer cell growth, migration and invasion in vitro. Xenograft tumor assays in nude mice confirmed that LINC01436 promoted tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Mechanistically, LINC01436 exerted biological functions by acting as a microRNA (miR)‐30a‐3p sponge to regulate the expression of its target gene EPAS1. Our findings characterize LINC01436 as a new hypoxia‐sensitive lncRNA with oncogenic function in NSCLC, suggesting that LINC01436 may be a potential biomarker for prognosis and a potential target for treatment.

Purpose. To describe liver imaging reporting and data system (LI-RADS) version 2018 and other MRI imaging features in intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) in Chinese adults with vs. without chronic hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection. Methods. We retrospectively enrolled 89 patients with pathologically proven iCCA after multiphase imaging performed between 2004 and 2017 at a tertiary medical center in southern China. Based on whether patients had chronic HBV, iCCA was divided into two subgroups: HBV-positive (n = 50 patients, including 9 with cirrhosis) vs. HBV-negative (n = 39 patients, including 14 with hepatolithiasis and 25 with no identifiable risk factor for iCCA; none had cirrhosis). Two independent abdominal radiologists in consensus reviewed the largest mass in each patient to assign LI-RADS v2018 features; they also scored each observation’s shape and location. Imaging features were compared using chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests. Results. Most iCCAs in HBV-positive (88% (44/50)) and HBV-negative (97% (38/39)) patients had at least one LR-M feature. Compared to iCCAs in HBV-negative patients, iCCAs in HBV-positive patients were more likely to have at least one major feature of HCC (46% (23/50) vs. 8% (3/39), P
