Abstract Due to differences in the quantity and size of observed targets, hyperspectral images are characterized by class imbalance. The standard deep learning classification model training scheme optimizes the overall classification error, which may lead to performance imbalance between classes in hyperspectral image classification frameworks. Therefore, a novel factor annealing decoupling compositional training method is proposed in this paper. Without requiring resampling or reweighting, it implicitly modulates the training process, so standard models can sufficiently learn the representation of the minority classes and further be trained as robust classifiers. Specifically, the label‐distribution‐aware margin loss is combined with the error‐rate‐based cross‐entropy loss via combination factor, which considers both imbalanced data representation learning and classifier overall performance. Then, a factor annealing optimization training scheme is designed to adjust the combination factor, which solves the stage division problem of two‐stage decoupling learning. Experimental results on two hyperspectral image datasets demonstrate that, as compared with other competing approaches, the proposed method can continuously and stably optimize the model parameters, achieving improvements in class average metrics and difficult classes without affecting overall classification performance.

The accurate fenestration, screw implantation and assisting stabilizing‐plate placement in surgery of benign tumors in the proximal femur needs be defined easily. The aim of this study was to investigate the value of 3D printed multifunctional guides plate (3D‐MGP) based on computer aided design. Between January 2020 and June 2022, 17 patients (nine females and eight males) with benign proximal femoral tumor had lesion curettage and allograft combined with internal plate fixation using 3D‐MGP. In this study, the patients had CT scans and a technician reconstructed the 3D images of tumor and the femur, a doctor designed the location and margin of the fenestration and screws, and integrated different functions into MGP for benign proximal femoral lesions, which assisted in precise localization, fenestration and screw drilling. Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) scoring was used to evaluate lower extremity function. Bone healing and the screws location was assessed with the radiographs. All patients underwent successful surgery with complete resection of the tumor and internal fixation with using the 3D‐MGP. The mean follow‐up was 16.4 months. The operative time was 126.47 ± 18.44 min, intraoperative bleeding was 198.23 ± 67.94 mL, intraoperative fluoroscopy was 6.47 ± 0.62, postoperative drainage was 223.82 ± 119.51 mL, and MSTS score was 27.29 ± 1.31 points. There were no unplanned fenestration and improper screw fixation. The 3D‐MGP enabled personalized and accurate location of tumor, fenestration, screw placement and assisted stabilizing‐plate placement for the treatment of benign tumor of the proximal femur. This technique has the potential to shorten operative times, decrease intraoperative bleeding, and reduce radiation exposure to patients.

Abstract The sensory–neuromorphic interface is key to the application of neuromorphic electronics. Artificial spiking neurons and artificial sensory nerves have been created, and a few studies showed a complete neuromorphic system through cointegration with synaptic electronics. However, artificial synaptic devices and systems often do not work in real environments, which limits their ability to provide realistic neural simulations and interface with biological nerves. We report a sensory–neuromorphic interface that uses a fiber synapse to emulate a biological afferent nerve. For the first time, a sensing–neuromorphic interface is connected to a living organism for peripheral nerve stimulation, allowing the organism to establish a connection with its surrounding environment. The interface converts perceived environmental information into analog electrical signals and then into frequency‐dependent pulse signals, which simplify the information interface between the sensor and the pulse‐data processing center. The frequency of the interface shows a sublinear dependence on strain amplitude at different stimulus intensities, and can deliver increased frequency spikes at potentially damaging stimulus intensities, similar to the response of biological afferent nerves. Abstract INTRODUCTION Alzheimer's disease (AD) is often misclassified in electronic health records (EHRs) when relying solely on diagnosis codes. This study aimed to develop a more accurate, computable phenotype (CP) for identifying AD patients using structured and unstructured EHR data. METHODS We used EHRs from the University of Florida Health (UFHealth) system and created rule‐based CPs iteratively through manual chart reviews. The CPs were then validated using data from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and the University of Minnesota (UMN). RESULTS Our best‐performing CP was “patient has at least 2 AD diagnoses and AD‐related keywords in AD encounters,” with an F1‐score of 0.817 at UF, 0.961 at UTHealth, and 0.623 at UMN, respectively. DISCUSSION We developed and validated rule‐based CPs for AD identification with good performance, which will be crucial for studies that aim to use real‐world data like EHRs. Highlights Developed a computable phenotype (CP) to identify Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients using EHR data. Utilized both structured and unstructured EHR data to enhance CP accuracy. Achieved a high F1‐score of 0.817 at UFHealth, and 0.961 and 0.623 at UTHealth and UMN. Validated the CP across different demographics, ensuring robustness and fairness.

Abstract To investigate the clinical characteristics of febrile infection‐related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES). We used trajectory analysis and logistic regression analysis to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognostic risk factors respectively. Twenty‐seven patients (16 males) were included. The median age of onset was 7 (IQR: 4–9) years. Routine cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination was normal. Electroencephalogram (EEG) showed frequent microseizures and electroseizures in all patients. Eight patients had claustrum signs in the acute phase. Anesthetics and anti‐seizure medications (ASM) were used in all patients. All patients received immunotherapy, including plasma exchange (n = 4), immunoglobulin (n = 26), and corticosteroids (n = 19). Trajectory diagrams of seizure showed 6 patients had bimodal disease course. Besides, we found there may be a linear relationship between body temperature and convulsion frequency (R2 = 0.25). The median Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) was 3 (IQR: 1–4). Nine deaths occurred, including abandonment of treatment (n = 3), hemodynamic instability (n = 3), brain hernia (n = 2), and brain hernia with hemodynamic instability (n = 1). Seizure onset combined with fever (p = 0.003), periodic discharge (p = 0.002), and non‐ketogenic diet (non‐KD) (p = 0.005) were independent risk factors for death. Abstract This paper studies the rating lives of wind turbine main bearings, as determined by the IEC 61400‐1 and ISO 281 standards. A critical review of relevant bearing life theory and turbine design requirements is provided, including discussion on possible shortcomings such as the existence (or not) of the bearing fatigue load limit and the validity of assuming linear damage accumulation. A detailed exploratory case study is then undertaken to determine rating lives for two models of main bearing in a 1.5 MW wind turbine. Rating life assessment is carried out under different conditions, including various combinations of main bearing temperature, wind field characteristics, lubricant viscosity, and contamination levels. Rating lives are found to be sufficiently above the desired 20‐year design life for both bearing models under expected operating conditions. For the larger bearing, operational loads are shown to be below or close to the bearing fatigue load limit a vast majority of the time. Key sensitivities for rating life values are temperature and contamination. Overall, the results of this study suggest that an ISO 281 rating life assessment does not account for reported rates of main bearing failures in 1 to 3 MW wind turbines. It is recommended that a similar analysis be undertaken for ISO/TS 16281 rating lives, along with further efforts to identify principal root causes of main bearing failures in future work, possibly leading to a new application standard specific to this component. It is also recommended that the impacts of partial wake impingement on main bearing rating lives are investigated.

Abstract Background Human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) are essential in the processes of skin ageing and wound healing. However, the underlying mechanism of HDFs in skin healing of the elderly has not been well defined. This study aims to elucidate the mechanisms of HDFs senescence and how senescent HDFs affect wound healing in aged skin. Methods The expression and function of sperm equatorial segment protein 1 (SPESP1) in skin ageing were evaluated via in vivo and in vitro experiments. To delve into the potential molecular mechanisms by which SPESP1 influences skin ageing, a combination of techniques was employed, including proteomics, RNA sequencing, immunoprecipitation, chromatin immunoprecipitation and liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry analyses. Clearance of senescent cells by dasatinib plus quercetin (D+Q) was investigated to explore the role of SPESP1‐induced senescent HDFs in wound healing. Results Here, we define the critical role of SPESP1 in ameliorating HDFs senescence and retarding the skin ageing process. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that SPESP1 directly binds to methyl‐binding protein, leading to Decorin demethylation and subsequently upregulation of its expression. Moreover, SPESP1 knockdown delays wound healing in young mice and SPESP1 overexpression induces wound healing in old mice. Notably, pharmacogenetic clearance of senescent cells by D+Q improved wound healing in SPESP1 knockdown skin. Conclusions Taken together, these findings reveal the critical role of SPESP1 in skin ageing and wound healing, expecting to facilitate the development of anti‐ageing strategies and improve wound healing in the elderly.

Abstract Autonomous robotics working in the uncertain environment have drawn increasing interests from researchers. Here, an issue of online motion optimization under unknown environment is considered while preserving the safety and improving the flexible manoeuvrability of robot–environment interaction. This problem is addressed by improving the conventional dynamic movement primitives (DMPs) framework with force tracking constraints. First, an initial motion is learned through the DMPs. At the stage of skill generalization, a temporal coupling term combining with force constraints scheme which is inspired by the barrier Lyapunov function and finite‐time prescribed performance is deduced and adds to the original DMPs, so as to remain the contacting force staying within a predefined limit while aligning the motion along with surface of unknown environment adaptively. In this way, not only the contacting force can be guaranteed within a safe margin, but the shape of generalizing motion is preserved. Then the convergence and stability of the proposed DMPs are proved which is grounded on Laplace transformation‐based stability analysis to ensure the performance and safety. Finally, the proposed method is instantiated combined with conventional PID controller through the compared simulations to verify its effectiveness.

Abstract Background Allostatic load (AL) has been linked to an increased risk of death in various populations. However, to date, there is no research specifically investigating the effect of AL on mortality in older cancer survivors. Aims To investigate the association between AL and mortality in older cancer survivors. Method A total of 1291 adults aged 60 years or older who survived for ≥1 year since cancer diagnoses were identified from the 1999 to 2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. AL was the exposure of interest incorporating nine clinical measures/biomarkers; one point was added to AL if any of the measures/biomarkers exceeded the normal level. The sum of points was categorized as an ordinal variable to reflect low, moderate, and high ALs. Our outcomes of interest were all‐cause, cancer‐specific, and cardiovascular disease–specific mortality. Death was identified by linkage to the National Death Index. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of mortality by AL category. Results Overall, 53.6% of participants were male and 78.4% were white. The mean age of study participants at interview was 72.8 years (standard deviation = 7.1). A total of 546 participants died during the follow‐up (median follow‐up time: 8.0 years). Among them, 158 died of cancer, and 106 died of cardiovascular events. Results from multivariable Cox proportional hazards models showed that higher ALS was positively associated with higher all‐cause mortality (ALS = 4–9 vs. ALS = 0–1: aHR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.17–1.98, p‐trend

Abstract Background Cervical cancer (CC) has become the fourth most common cancer worldwide and it is mainly caused by the infection of human papillomavirus (HPV), especially high‐risk HPV16. Aberrant miRNA expression in CC is closely related to HPV16 infection, and the regulation of HPV16 E6 expression can affect a variety of miRNA expression. This study aims to exploring the miRNAs involved in E6 regulation in CC. Methods Our study screened differentially expressed miRNAs in cervical cells of HPV16 infected and uninfected cervical cancer patients by analyzing the GSE81137 dataset of the gene expression omnibus database (GEO), and identified miR‐320a that plays an anti‐tumor role and is associated with good prognosis of cervical cancer. Explore the effect of HPV16 E6 on the expression of miR‐320a in cervical cancer, and verify whether HPV16 E6 regulates the downstream target gene TOP2A expression through miR‐320a, thereby affecting cervical cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and EMT in vitro and in vivo. Results The bioinformatic methods selected the miR‐320a, which was differentially expressed in cervical cells from HPV16‐infected patients compared to uninfected patients. We further demonstrated that miR‐320a level was regulated by HPV16 E6, which promoted the CC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibited apoptosis. In addition, we predicted the downstream target genes of miR‐320a and confirmed that TOP2A was one of its targeting proteins. Moreover, HPV16 E6 promoted the TOP2A expression in CC cells through down‐regulating miR‐320a, leading to promoting CC development. Conclusions We confirmed that HPV16 E6 promoted the TOP2A expression through down‐regulation of miR‐320a, thus promoting CC development, and the HPV16 E6/miR‐320a/TOP2A axis may perform as a potential target for CC treatment.

Abstract The electrochemical–mechanical degradation of ultrahigh Ni cathode for lithium‐ion batteries is a crucial aspect that limits the cycle life and safety of devices. Herein, the study reports a facile strategy involving rational design of primary grain crystallographic orientation within polycrystalline cathode, which well enhanced its electro‐mechanical strength and Li+ transfer kinetics. Ex situ and in situ experiments/simulations including cross‐sectional particle electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), single‐particle micro‐compression, thermogravimetric analysis combined with mass spectrometry (TGA‐MS), and finite element modeling reveal that, the primary‐grain‐alignment strategy effectively mitigates the particle pulverization, lattice oxygen release thereby enhances battery cycle life and safety. Besides the preexisting doping and coating methodologies to improve the stability of Ni‐rich cathode, the primary‐grain‐alignment strategy, with no foreign elements or heterophase layers, is unprecedently proposed here. The results shed new light on the study of electrochemical–mechanical strain alleviation for electrode materials.

Abstract Background Prior studies on the association between asthma and cancer show inconsistent results. This study aimed to generate additional evidence on the association between asthma and cancer, both overall, and by cancer type, in the United States. Method We conducted a retrospective cohort study using 2012–2020 electronic health records and claims data in the OneFlorida+ clinical research network. Our study population included a cohort of adult patients with asthma (n = 90,021) and a matching cohort of adult patients without asthma (n = 270,063). We built Cox proportional hazards models to examine the association between asthma diagnosis and subsequent cancer risk. Results Our results showed that asthma patients were more likely to develop cancer compared to patients without asthma in multivariable analysis (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.36, 99% confidence interval [CI] = 1.29–1.44). Elevated cancer risk was observed in asthma patients without (HR = 1.60; 99% CI: 1.50–1.71) or with (HR = 1.11; 99% CI: 1.03–1.21) inhaled steroid use. However, in analyses of specific cancer types, cancer risk was elevated for nine of 13 cancers in asthma patients without inhaled steroid use but only for two of 13 cancers in asthma patients with inhaled steroid use, suggesting a protective effect of inhaled steroid use on cancer. Conclusion This is the first study to report a positive association between asthma and overall cancer risk in the US population. More in‐depth studies using real‐word data are needed to further explore the causal mechanisms of asthma on cancer risk.

Abstract Background With early intervention, palliative care (PC) can improve quality of life and increase survival among advanced‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer (aNCSLC) patients. However, PC is often offered late in the cancer treatment course and is underused. We characterized racial/ethnic inequities and the role of healthcare access in PC use among patients with aNSCLC. Methods We used data from the 2004–2016 National Cancer Database, including adults aged 18–90 years with aNSCLC (stage 3 or 4 at diagnosis; n = 803,618). Based on the NCCN guidelines, PC includes non‐curative surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, pain management, or any combination of non‐curative care. We examined PC use by sociodemographic and health care‐level characteristics. To evaluate the independent associations of race/ethnicity and health care access characteristics with PC, we estimated adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Covariate adjustment sets varied by exposure determined using directed acyclic graphs. Results Our population was 55% male and 77% non‐Hispanic/Latinx (NH)‐White, with a mean age of 68 years. Overall, 19% of patients with aNSCLC used PC. Compared to NH‐White patients, NH‐Black (aOR:0.91,95% CI:0.89–0.93) and Hispanic/Latinx (aOR:0.80,95% CI:0.77–0.83) patients were less likely to use PC, whereas Indigenous (AI/AN) (aOR:1.18,95% CI:1.06–1.31) and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (aOR:2.08,95% CI:1.83–2.36) patients were more likely. Overall, compared to the privately‐insured, uninsured (aOR:1.19,95% CI:1.11–1.28) and Medicaid‐insured patients (aOR:1.19,95% CI:1.14–1.25) were more likely to use PC. Conclusion PC is underutilized among NH‐Black and Hispanic/Latinx patients with aNSCLC. Insurance type may play a role in PC use among patients with aNSCLC.

Abstract Power systems are striving for the decarbonization goal for long‐term sustainability. As a result, the renewable energy sources (RES) have been playing an increasingly important role in the generation portfolio. Power system flexibility maintaining the power balance under uncertain and variable RES generation has become a major concern during the energy transition. This paper proposes to apply new energy vehicles (NEV) including electric vehicles (EVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) as day‐ahead flexibility resources to make revenue by providing comprehensive capacity/energy flexibility in the ancillary service market. First, the detailed joint optimized operational strategies of the NEV fleet and the EV charging/hydrogen refuelling stations are formulated. Second, the design and service clearing methodology of the ancillary service market for flexibility enhancement is introduced. A game‐theoretic model is applied to determine the equilibrium price for both the demand and suppliers (namely NEV fleets) of operational flexibility. Third, case studies using IEEE benchmark systems are provided to validate the proposed methods. The results demonstrate that the joint optimization of NEV fleets, charging stations, and hydrogen refuelling stations can improve the power system operational flexibility, reduce the charging expense of NEV owners, and reduce the carbon emission by utilizing the green hydrogen.

Introduction Mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) are central in immune anatomy. MLNs are associated with the composition of gut microbiota, affecting the central system and immune system. Gut microbiota was found to differ among individuals of different social hierarchies. Nowadays, excision of MLNs is more frequently involved in gastrointestinal surgery; however, the potential side effects of excision of MLNs on social dominance are still unknown. Methods MLNs were removed from male mice (7–8 weeks old). Four weeks after MLN removal, social dominance test was performed to investigate social dominance; hippocampal and serum interleukin (IL)‐1β, IL‐10, and tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α) were investigated; and histopathology was used to evaluate local inflammation of the ileum. The composition of the gut microbiota was then examined to understand the possible mechanism, and finally intraperitoneal injection of IL‐10 was used to validate the effect of IL‐10 on social dominance. Results There was a decrease in social dominance in the operation group compared to the control group, as well as a decrease in serum and hippocampal IL‐10 levels, but no difference in serum and hippocampal IL‐1β and TNF‐α levels, and no local inflammation of the ileum after MLN removal. 16S rRNA sequencing analysis showed that the relative abundance of the class Clostridia was decreased in the operation group. This decrease was positively associated with serum IL‐10 levels. Furthermore, intraperitoneal injection of IL‐10 in a subset of mice increased social dominance. Conclusions Our findings suggested that MLNs contributed to maintaining social dominance, which might be associated with reduced IL‐10 and the imbalance of specific flora in gut microbiota.

Abstract Introduction Several studies have linked inflammation and oxidative stress with the pathogenesis of depression. Artesunate is a commonly used medication to treat malaria and has been shown to produce antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects. However, its prophylactic effects on depression and depression‐related brain pathology are unknown. Methods In Experiment 1, using a PC12 cell line, we investigated whether artesunate can prevent hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)‐induced oxidative injury that mimics oxidative stress commonly observed in the depressed brain. Next, using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced mouse model of depression, we investigated whether artesunate can prevent behavioral deficits observed in the open field test, novelty‐suppressed feeding test, sucrose preference test, forced swimming test, and tail suspension procedure. Results We found that artesunate significantly prevented a H2O2‐induced reduction in PC12 cell activity, suggesting its antioxidant potential. We also found that mice pretreated with artesunate (5, 15 mg/kg) intraperitoneally (i.p.) prior to the LPS (.8 mg/kg, i.p.) treatment showed fewer and less severe depression‐ and anxiety‐like behaviors than the LPS‐treated control mice. Conclusion Our findings indicate that artesunate produces antioxidant effect, as well as antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Importantly, our findings first demonstrate that artesunate can prevent LPS‐induced depression‐ and anxiety‐like symptoms, strongly suggesting its prophylactic potential in the treatment of depression and, perhaps, other psychiatric disorders associated with inflammation and oxidative stress.

Abstract Background People's fatalistic beliefs about cancer can influence their cancer prevention behaviors. We examined the association between fatalistic beliefs and breast and colorectal cancer screening among residents of north‐central Florida and tested whether there exists any sex or rural–non‐rural disparities in the association. Methods We conducted a cross‐sectional, random digit dialing telephone survey of 895 adults residing in north‐central Florida in 2017. Using weighted logistic models, we examined the association between (1) respondents’ sociodemographic characteristics and cancer fatalistic beliefs and (2) cancer fatalistic beliefs and cancer screening utilization among screening eligible populations. We tested a series of sex and rurality by fatalistic belief interactions. Results Controlling for sociodemographics, we found the agreement with “It seems like everything causes cancer” was associated with a higher likelihood of having a mammogram (odds ratio [OR]: 3.34; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.17–9.51), while the agreement with “Cancer is most often caused by a person's behavior or lifestyle” was associated with a higher likelihood of having a blood stool test (OR: 1.85; 95% CI: 1.12–3.05) or a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy among women (OR: 2.65; 95% CI: 1.09–6.44). We did not observe any rural–non‐rural disparity in the association between fatalistic beliefs and cancer screening utilization. Conclusions Some, but not all, cancer fatalistic beliefs are associated with getting breast and colorectal cancer screening in north‐central Florida. Our study highlights the need for more research to better understand the social and cultural factors associated with cancer screening utilization.

Abstract Purpose The homeobox (HOX) family plays an important role in multi‐biological processes, such as morphogenesis and tumors. However, the function of HOXD13 in colon cancer remains unclear. Materials and Methods The Cancer Genome Atlas database was used to analyze the expression of HOXD13 and its effect on the survival rate of colon cancer patients. Wound healing, Transwell, and clone formation were used to evaluate the effects of changes in HOXD13 expression on the function of colon cancer cells. A nude mouse xenograft tumor model was used to test the effects of HOXD13 on tumor growth in vivo. Results Our results showed that HOXD13 was highly expressed in colon cancer and predicted a poor prognosis for patients. In in vitro experiments, the knockdown of HOXD13 can inhibit the proliferation and invasion of colon cancer cells. In vivo experiments showed the inhibited tumor growth after the knockdown of HODX13. In addition, HOXD13 bound to the protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type N2 (PTPRN2) promoter and promoted the transcription of PTPRN2. Conclusion We revealed the function and mechanism of HOXD13 in colon cancer and suggest that HOXD13 may be a candidate marker for the diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer.

Abstract Background Accumulating data have suggested seizures occur frequently in patients with neuronal surface antibody‐mediated autoimmune encephalitis. We aimed to evaluate seizure outcomes and potential factors associated with the development of epilepsy in patients with anti‐N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate receptor (NMDAR), anti‐leucine‐rich glioma‐inactivated 1 (LGI1), and anti‐gamma‐aminobutyric‐acid B receptor (GABABR) encephalitis. Methods Patients with anti‐NMDAR, anti‐LGI1, and anti‐GABABR encephalitis were prospectively recruited from 2014 to June 2019, with a median follow‐up period of 30.5 months (range 8–67 months). Seizure outcomes were assessed and risk factors of epilepsy were analyzed. Results A total of 119 patients with anti‐NMDAR, anti‐LGI1, and anti‐GABABR encephalitis were included, and 83 (69.7%) of them developed new‐onset seizures. By the end of follow‐up, 17 (21.3%) of 80 patients had seizure relapses after intermittent seizure remission or exhibited uncontrolled seizure episodes, contributing to epilepsy. Immunotherapy delay and interictal epileptic discharges (IEDs) were identified to be associated with the development of epilepsy in patients with anti‐NMDAR, anti‐LGI1, and anti‐GABABR encephalitis, particularly anti‐NMDAR encephalitis. Furthermore, multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that immunotherapy delay was an independent predictor for epilepsy. Conclusion Our study suggested that immunotherapy delay and IEDs were associated with the development of epilepsy in patients with anti‐NMDAR, anti‐LGI1, and anti‐GABABR encephalitis. Early diagnosis and treatment were required, and particular consideration should be given to patients with these risk factors.

Abstract Clinical studies, especially randomized, controlled trials, are essential for generating evidence for clinical practice. However, generalizability is a long‐standing concern when applying trial results to real‐world patients. Generalizability assessment is thus important, nevertheless, not consistently practiced. We performed a systematic review to understand the practice of generalizability assessment. We identified 187 relevant articles and systematically organized these studies in a taxonomy with three dimensions: (i) data availability (i.e., before or after trial (a priori vs. a posteriori generalizability)); (ii) result outputs (i.e., score vs. nonscore); and (iii) populations of interest. Abstract China has long been committing to green transition of energy system to alleviate the heavy pollution; however, a quantitative analysis for its impact on air pollution has been lacking. To fill the knowledge gap, this study makes an initial attempt to reveal how green transition of energy system influences China's energy‐related mercury emissions from both individual sector and supply chain perspectives, by using input‐output (IO)‐structural decomposition analysis and structural path analysis. Moreover, the aggregated power sector in the original IO tables are further disaggregated into seven types of power sectors to avoid the inherent huge uncertainty related to the aggregation. The results show that green transition in terms of emission factor control and energy mix adjustment has substantially benefited mercury reduction, while energy efficiency improvement has a much weaker effect. The largest consumption‐based mercury reduction brought about by energy green transition happens in sector Construction, with an amount of 49.6 t. This study also finds that the green transition generally makes the production layers less mercury intensive, and the energy‐related mercury emissions are more concentrated in the production layers. Policy suggestions for further enhancing energy green transition's mitigation effects for mercury emissions are comprehensively discussed.

Abstract This study explores the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to monitor and diagnose multiple sclerosis (MS). The analysis of reduced total macular volume and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thinning are shown. The severity of these defects increases as MS progresses, reflecting the progressive degeneration of nerve fibers and retinal ganglion cells. The OCT parameters are noninvasive, sensitive indicators that can be used to assess the progression of neurodegeneration and inflammation in MS.

Abstract Recently, genome‐editing technology like clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas9 has improved the translational gap in the treatments mediated through gene therapy. The advantages of the CRISPR system, such as, work in the living cells and tissues, candidate this technique for the employing in experiments and the therapy of central nervous system diseases. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a widespread, disabling, neurodegenerative disease induced by dopaminergic neuron loss and linked to progressive motor impairment. Pathophysiological basis knowledge of PD has modified the PD classification model and expresses in the sporadic and familial types. Analyses of the earliest genetic linkage have shown in PD the inclusion of synuclein alpha (SNCA) genomic duplication and SNCA mutations in the familial types of PD pathogenesis. This review analyzes the structure, development, and function in genome editing regulated through the CRISPR/Cas9. Also, it explains the genes associated with PD pathogenesis and the appropriate modifications to favor PD. This study follows the direction by understanding the PD linking analyses in which the CRISPR technique is applied. Finally, this study explains the limitations and future trends of CRISPR service in relation to the genome‐editing process in PD patients' induced pluripotent stem cells.

Abstract Forming tight interaction with both Purkinje and granule cells (GCs), Bergmann glia (BG) are essential for cerebellar morphogenesis and neuronal homeostasis. However, how BG act in this process is unclear without comprehensive transcriptome landscape of BG. Here, high temporal‐resolution investigation of transcriptomes with FACS‐sorted BG revealed the dynamic expression of genes within given functions and pathways enabled BG to assist neural migration and construct neuron‐glia network. It is found that the peak time of GCs migration (P7‐10) strikingly coincides with the downregulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) related genes, and the disruption of which by Setdb1 ablation at P7‐10 in BG leads to significant migration defect of GCs emphasizing the criticality of Nfix‐Setdb1 mediated H3K9me3 repressive complex for the precise regulation of GCs migration in vivo. Thus, BG's transcriptomic landscapes offer an insight into the mechanism by which BG are in depth integrated in cerebellar neural network.

Abstract Objective To identify the most prominent and replicable fractional anisotropy (FA) alterations of white matter associated with obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD) in tract‐based spatial statistics (TBSS) studies. Methods We reviewed previous TBSS studies (n = 20) in OCD and performed a meta‐analysis (n = 16) of FA differences. Results No between‐group differences in FA were detected in the pooled meta‐analysis. However, reduced FA was identified in the genu and anterior body of corpus callosum (CC) in adult OCD. FA reductions in the anterior body of CC were associated with a later age of onset in adult patients with OCD. For pediatric OCD, decreased FA in earlier adolescence and increased FA in later adolescence were seemingly related to an altered trajectory of brain maturation. Conclusions Absent in the pooled sample but robust in adults, disrupted microstructural organization in the anterior part of CC indicates a bias of deficits toward connections in interhemispheric connections of rostral neocortical regions, which could lead to deficits of interhemispheric communication and thus contribute to cognitive and emotional deficits in adult OCD. The correlation between FA in the anterior body of CC and older illness onset suggests that patients with later adult onset of illness may represent a biologically distinct subgroup. For pediatric OCD, alterations in neurodevelopmental maturation may contribute to inconsistent patterns of FA alteration relative to controls during adolescence. While most studies of OCD have emphasized alterations of within hemisphere fronto‐striatal circuits, these results indicate that between hemisphere connectivity of this circuitry may also represent important pathophysiology of the illness.

Background Sexual minority, or lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB), individuals are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease attributable to elevated rates of health risk factors. However, although there is clear evidence that statin use can prevent cardiovscular disease in certain adult populations, no studies have examined how statins are being used among the LGB population. This study aimed to examine the prevalence and predictors of statin use among LGB and non‐LGB individuals using Facebook‐delivered online surveys. Methods and Results We conducted a cross‐sectional online survey about statin use in adults ≥40 years of age between September and December 2019 using Facebook advertising (n=1531). We calculated the prevalence of statin use by age, sexual orientation, and statin benefit populations. We used multivariable logistic regression to examine whether statin use differed by sexual orientation, adjusting for covariates. Abstract Background Ellis‐van Creveld syndrome (EVC), a very rare genetic skeletal dysplasia, is clinically characterized by a tetrad consisting of chondrodystrophy, polydactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and cardiac anomalies. The aim of this study was to identify the genetic defect for EVC in a five‐generation consanguineous Han‐Chinese pedigree. Methods A five‐generation, 12‐member Han‐Chinese pedigree was enrolled in this study. Exome sequencing was applied in the proband to screen potential genetic variant(s), and then Sanger sequencing was used to identify the variant in family members and 200 unrelated ethnicity‐matched controls. Results A novel homozygous variant, c.2014C>T, p.(Q672*), in the EvC ciliary complex subunit 1 gene (EVC), was detected in the patient, which was cosegregated with the disease in the family and absent in the controls. Conclusion The identified novel homozygous EVC variant, c.2014C>T, p.(Q672*), was responsible for EVC in this Han‐Chinese pedigree. The findings in this study extend the EVC mutation spectrum and may provide new insights into EVC causation and diagnosis with implications for genetic counseling and clinical management.

The aim of this study was to investigate the time-dependent effects of acupuncture on the excitability and long-term potentiation- (LTP-) like plasticity induced by paired-associative stimulation (PAS) over the primary motor cortex (M1). The present examination is the first to report the influence of acupuncture on the motor-evoked potential (MEP) throughout the treatment process, including baseline (before acupuncture), the needle in situ, and the needle removal. Subsequently, the LTP-like plasticity induced by paired-associative stimulation (PAS) was explored, which consisted of 200 pairs of electrical stimulation of the ulnar nerve at the first dorsal interosseous (FDI), followed by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) over the bilateral M1. TMS-MEP amplitudes over the bilateral M1 in resting conditions were measured throughout the whole treatment process. Finally, we confirmed the behavioral measurements. Significant changes were found in both the contralateral and ipsilateral acupuncture sizes as compared to the baseline values. Our results indicated that acupuncture modulated the excitability of M1, and the synaptic plasticity was time-dependent. We concluded that acupuncture should be combined with rehabilitation techniques to improve the motor function in stroke patients. Therefore, we put forward the combined application of the acupuncture timing and rehabilitation for higher therapeutic effectiveness. This trial was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (registration no. ChiCTR-IPR-1900020515).
