Controllable synthesis and rational design of ordered nanostructures are crucial for their renewable energy applications. In this work, a mesoporous CoP/Fe2 P doped with 5 % Ce by a simple nanocasting method is designed as a superior electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The well-designed composite delivers an efficient electrocatalytic activity with a low overpotential of 250 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and excellent long-term stability with no degradation after 10 h of electrochemical OER test, superior to that of the state-of-the-art RuO2 electrocatalyst in alkaline electrolyte. A comprehensive analysis demonstrates that the outstanding OER performance is due to the desirable combination of the highly exposed active centers in the Ce-doped bimetallic phosphides, efficient mass transfer, and effective electron conduction owing to the hierarchically mesoporous hybridization. Furthermore, the synergistic effect between Ce and CoP/Fe2 P accelerates the migration rate of electrons/ions and increases the electrochemical active area. This excellent OER performance observed by Ce doping of CoP/Fe2 P makes them possible candidates toward OER in alkaline electrolytes.

Developing noble-metal-free, earth-abundant, highly active, and stable electrocatalysts with high efficiency for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions is of great importance for the development of overall water-splitting devices, but still remains a challenging issue. Herein, a 3D heterostructured NiC/MoC/NiMoO4 electrocatalyst was prepared through a facile synthetic procedure. The electrocatalyst shows a superior catalytic activity and stability toward the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions. The optimized NiC/MoC/NiMoO4 catalyst presents low overpotentials of 68 and 280 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 m KOH for the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, respectively. Assembled as an electrolyzer for overall water splitting, such a heterostructure shows quite a low cell voltage of 1.52 V at 10 mA cm-2 and remarkable stability for more than 20 h. This work provides a facile but efficient approach for the design and preparation of highly efficient bifunctional and self-supported heterostructured electrocatalysts that can serve as promising candidates in electrochemical energy storage and conversion.

We report a general chemical approach to synthesize strongly ferromagnetic rare-earth metal (REM) based SmCo and SmFeN nanoparticles (NPs) with ultra-large coercivity. The synthesis started with the preparation of hexagonal CoO+Sm2 O3 (denoted as SmCo-O) multipods via decomposition of Sm(acac)3 and Co(acac)3 in oleylamine. These multipods were further reduced with Ca at 850 °C to form SmCo5 NPs with sizes tunable from 50 to 200 nm. The 200 nm SmCo5 NPs were dispersed in ethanol, and magnetically aligned in polyethylene glycol (PEG) matrix, yielding a PEG-SmCo5 NP composite with the room temperature coercivity (Hc ) of 49.2 kOe, the largest Hc among all ferromagnetic NPs ever reported, and saturated magnetic moment (Ms ) of 88.7 emu g-1 , the highest value reported for SmCo5 NPs. The method was extended to synthesize other ferromagnetic NPs of Sm2 Co17 , and, for the first time, of Sm2 Fe17 N3 NPs with Hc over 15 kOe and Ms reaching 127.9 emu g-1 . These REM based NPs are important magnetic building blocks for fabrication of high-performance permanent magnets, flexible magnets, and printable magnetic inks for energy and sensing applications.

AdipoRon is an orally active adiponectin receptor agonist. The aim of this study was to characterize the metabolites of AdipoRon in rat and human liver microsomes using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography combined with Q-Exactive Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-Exactive-Orbitrap-MS) together with data processing techniques including extracted ion chromatograms and a mass defect filter. AdipoRon (10 μm) was incubated with liver microsomes in the presence of NADPH and this resulted in a total of 11 metabolites being detected. The identities of these metabolites were characterized by comparing their accurate masses and fragment ions as well as their retention times with those of AdipoRon using MetWorks software. Metabolites M1-M3, M6, and M8-M11 were identified for the first time. Metabolite M4, the major metabolite both in rat and human liver microsomes, was further confirmed using the reference standard. Our results revealed that the metabolic pathways of AdipoRon in liver microsomes were N-dealkylation (M2), hydroxylation (M, M5-M9), carbonyl reduction (M4) and the formation of amide (M10 and M11). Our results provide valuable information about the in vitro metabolism of AdipoRon, which would be helpful for us to understand the mechanism of the elimination of AdipoRon and, in turn, its effectiveness and toxicity.

Ultrathin nanosheet catalysts deliver great potential in catalyzing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), but encounter the ceiling of the surface atomic utilizations, thus presenting a challenge associated with further boosting catalytic activity. A simple process to prepare monodisperse ferrimagnetic cobalt-substituted magnetite Co(x)Fe(3-x)O4 nanoparticles is reported. These ferrimagnetic nanoparticles are readily dispersed in hexane, forming a stable ferrimagnetic nanoparticle dispersion, and allowing easy nanoparticle self-assembly. When assembled under an external magnetic field (5.5 kOe), these nanoparticles show preferred magnetic alignment with their H(c) reaching 2.49 kOe.
