Abstract Background Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is the primary mode of metastasis in gastric cancer (GC). However, the precise mechanisms underlying this process remain elusive. Tumor cells necessitate lipid metabolic reprogramming to facilitate metastasis, yet the role of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), a pivotal enzyme involved in exogenous lipid uptake, remains uncertain in tumor metastasis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the presence of lipid metabolic reprogramming during LNM of GC as well as the role of LPL in this process. Methods Intracellular lipid levels were quantified using oil red O staining, BODIPY 493/503 staining, and flow cytometry. Lipidomics analysis was employed to identify alterations in intracellular lipid composition following LPL knockdown. Protein expression levels were assessed through immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assays. The mouse popliteal LNM model was utilized to investigate differences in LNM. Immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry were employed to examine protein associations. In vitro phosphorylation assays and Phos‐tag sodium dodecyl‐sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis assays were conducted to detect angiopoietin‐like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) phosphorylation. Results We identified that an elevated intracellular lipid level represents a crucial characteristic of node‐positive (N+) GC and further demonstrated that a high‐fat diet can expedite LNM. LPL was found to be significantly overexpressed in N+ GC tissues and shown to facilitate LNM by mediating dietary lipid uptake within GC cells. Leptin, an obesity‐related hormone, intercepted the effect exerted by ANGPTL4/Furin on LPL cleavage. Circulating leptin binding to the leptin receptor could induce the activation of inositol‐requiring enzyme‐1 (IRE1) kinase, leading to the phosphorylation of ANGPTL4 at the serine 30 residue and subsequently reducing its binding affinity with LPL. Moreover, our research revealed that LPL disrupted lipid homeostasis by elevating intracellular levels of arachidonic acid, which then triggered the cyclooxygenase‐2/prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) pathway, thereby promoting tumor lymphangiogenesis. Conclusions Leptin‐induced phosphorylation of ANGPTL4 facilitates LPL‐mediated lipid uptake and consequently stimulates the production of PGE2, ultimately facilitating LNM in GC.

Abstract Aging is classically associated with a decline of cognitive abilities, especially in relation to memory. While the development of potential treatments for neurodegenerative diseases has been in sharp focus, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a form of age‐related memory loss, in the absence of severe functional impairment, a condition experienced by many healthy adults, has received relatively little attention. Advances in this space would make significant contributions to the goal of healthy aging and may also help promote cognitive performance across the wider population. The individual action of either fructooligosaccharide (FOS) or L‐theanine, both natural plant‐derived molecules, has been tentatively linked with improvements in cognition, but our understanding remains far from complete. We therefore determined the effect of different dose combinations of FOS and L‐theanine (termed MT‐01/GBL‐Memory1) in mice against FOS and L‐theanine monotherapy. FOS and L‐theanine were found to synergistically enhance murine memory in our animal tests at a dose of 100 mg/kg (coefficient of drug interaction (CDI)

Abstract A 1 millisecond (1‐ms) vision system that guarantees high efficiency and timely response for tomato defect detection is essential for factory automation. Because of various defect appearances, recently many existing researches focus on CNN based defect detection, but few of them attempt to reach high processing speed to adapt to the factorial assembly line. This paper proposes a global to multi‐scale local based parallel architecture with hardwired CNN for tomato defect detection. This architecture breaks down image‐wise detection into pixel‐wise localization and block‐wise classification. The pixel‐wise localization utilizes tomato‐aware information as constraints for localization performance. The block‐wise classification uses a fully pipelined network structure to obtain the classification result for each block as the pixel stream moves through the network. The classification network has a six‐layer lightweight network structure with quantization for hardwired type implementation on FPGA. The experiment results show that the proposed architecture processes 1000 FPS images with 0.9476 ms/frame delay. And for detection performance, this architecture keeps f1−score at 80.18%, only 1.31% lower than ResNet50 based detection system.

Abstract Sodium (Na) metal is a competitive anode for next‐generation energy storage applications in view of its low cost and high‐energy density. However, the uncontrolled side reactions, unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and dendrite growth at the electrode/electrolyte interfaces impede the practical application of Na metal as anode. Herein, a heterogeneous Na‐based alloys interfacial protective layer is constructed in situ on the surface of Na foil by self‐diffusion of liquid metal at room temperature, named “HAIP Na.” The interfacial Na‐based alloys layer with good electrolyte wettability and strong sodiophilicity, and assisted in the construction of NaF‐rich SEI. By means of direct visualization and theoretical simulation, we verify that the interfacial Na‐based alloys layer enabling uniform Na+ flux deposition and suppressing the dendrite growth. As a result, in the carbonate‐based electrolyte, the HAIP Na||HAIP Na symmetric cells exhibit a remarkably enhanced cycling life for more than 650 h with a capacity of 1 mAh cm−2 at a current density of 1 mA cm−2. When the HAIP Na anode is paired with sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) cathode, the SPAN||HAIP Na full cells demonstrate excellent rate performance and cycling stability.

Abstract SH2B1 mutations are associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in humans. Global deletion of Sh2b1 results in severe obesity, type 2 diabetes, and MASLD in mice. Neuron‐specific restoration of SH2B1 rescues the obesity phenotype of Sh2b1‐null mice, indicating that the brain is a main SH2B1 target. However, SH2B1 neurocircuits remain elusive. SH2B1‐expressing neurons in the paraventricular hypothalamus (PVHSH2B1) and a PVHSH2B1→dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) neurocircuit are identified here. PVHSH2B1 axons monosynaptically innervate DRN neurons. Optogenetic stimulation of PVHSH2B1 axonal fibers in the DRN suppresses food intake. Chronic inhibition of PVHSH2B1 neurons causes obesity. In male and female mice, either embryonic‐onset or adult‐onset deletion of Sh2b1 in PVH neurons causes energy imbalance, obesity, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, and MASLD. Ablation of Sh2b1 in the DRN‐projecting PVHSH2B1 subpopulation also causes energy imbalance, obesity, and metabolic disorders. Conversely, SH2B1 overexpression in either total or DRN‐projecting PVHSH2B1 neurons protects against diet‐induced obesity. SH2B1 binds to TrkB and enhances brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling. Ablation of Sh2b1 in PVHSH2B1 neurons induces BDNF resistance in the PVH, contributing to obesity. In conclusion, these results unveil a previously unrecognized PVHSH2B1→DRN neurocircuit through which SH2B1 defends against obesity by enhancing BDNF/TrkB signaling.

Abstract Unlike bulky and rigid traditional power systems, 1D fiber batteries possess appealing features such as flexibility and adaptability, which are promising for use in wearable electronic devices. However, the performance and energy density fiber batteries are limited by the contradiction between ionic transfer and robust structure of fiber electrodes. Herein, these problems are addressed via polymer engineering to regulate the microenvironment in electrodes, realizing high‐linear‐capacity thick fiber electrodes with excellent cycling performance. The porosity of the electrodes is regulated using polymer crosslink networks designed with various components, and lithium‐ion transfer is optimized through ether‐abundant polymer chains. Furthermore, reinforced covalent bonding with carbon nanotube networks is established based on the modified functional groups of polymer networks. The multiscale optimizations of the porous structure, ionic transportation, and covalent bonding network enhance the lithium‐ion dynamics property and structural stability. Therefore, ultrahigh linear‐capacity fiber electrodes (17.8 mAh m−1) can be fabricated on a large scale and exhibit excellent stability (92.8% after 800 cycles), demonstrating obvious superiority among the reported fiber electrodes. Moreover, this study highlights the high effectiveness of polymer regulation in fiber electrodes and offers new avenues for designing next‐generation wearable energy‐storage systems.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to explore the association between slow‐wave sleep and the progression of motor and nonmotor symptoms in patients with PD. Methods Data were collected from the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative study. Slow‐wave sleep, also known as deep non‐rapid eye movement (DNREM) sleep, was objectively assessed using the Verily Study Watch. Motor function was assessed using the Movement Disorder Society‐Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III score, Hoehn and Yahr stage, freezing of gait, motor fluctuations, and dyskinesia severity. Comprehensive assessments were conducted on nonmotor symptoms, including depression, anxiety, global cognitive function, and autonomic dysfunction. Statistical analyses involved repeated‐measures analysis of variance and linear regression. Results A total of 102 patients with PD were included in the study, with a median follow‐up duration of 3.4 years. In the long DNREM sleep duration group (n = 55), better motor function (DNREM × time interaction: F(1,100) = 4.866, p = 0.030), less severe sexual dysfunction (p = 0.026), and improved activities of daily living (p = 0.033) were observed at the last follow‐up visit compared with the short DNREM sleep duration group (n = 47). Reduced DNREM sleep duration is a risk factor for motor progression (β = −0.251, p = 0.021; 95% confidence interval = −0.465 to −0.038). Interpretation The findings suggest an association between longer DNREM sleep duration and slower motor and nonmotor progression in patients with PD.

Abstract Excessively high temperatures inside a power transformer can accelerate the ageing rate and even cause unplanned outages. Accurately estimating the hot‐spot temperature (HST) of a power transformer is important for regulating the load and ensuring long‐term operation. In this study, a closed‐loop model of a 110‐kV product transformer with an oil natural/air forced (ONAF) cooling mode is built to predict HST, in which the compression ratio of windings, equivalent heat source and radiator geometry are considered. According to the flow field of the winding, the ‘dead oil zone’ and reverse oil flow are observed in the horizontal oil channels. The accuracy of the proposed model is experimentally validated by temperature‐rise tests. The results show that the absolute errors between the measured results and simulation are below 5°C, and the average error is ∼2°C. Furthermore, the arrangements of windings and radiators are studied to enhance the oil circulation. By adding 5 washers to the high‐voltage winding, the average temperature can be decreased by 6°C compared with the case without a washer. Elevating the radiator can also mitigate the characteristic temperatures, and the optimal height difference between the radiator and winding centre is suggested to be 0.66 m.

Abstract Background Radiomics is increasingly utilized to distinguish pulmonary nodules between lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and tuberculosis (TB). However, it remains unclear whether different segmentation criteria, such as the inclusion or exclusion of the cavity region within nodules, affect the results. Methods A total of 525 patients from two medical centers were retrospectively enrolled. The radiomics features were extracted according to two regions of interest (ROI) segmentation criteria. Multiple logistic regression models were trained to predict the pathology: (1) The clinical model relied on clinical‐radiological semantic features; (2) The radiomics models (radiomics+ and radiomics−) utilized radiomics features from different ROIs (including or excluding cavities); (3) the composite models (composite+ and composite−) incorporated both above. Results In the testing set, the radiomics+/− models and the composite+/− models still possessed efficient prediction performance (AUC ≥ 0.94), while the AUC of the clinical model was 0.881. In the validation set, the AUC of the clinical model was only 0.717, while that of the radiomics+/− models and the composite+/− models ranged from 0.801 to 0.825. The prediction performance of all the radiomics+/− and composite+/− models were significantly superior to that of the clinical model (p 0.05). Conclusions The present study established a machine learning‐based radiomics strategy for differentiating LUAD from TB lesions. The ROI segmentation including or excluding the cavity region may exert no significant effect on the predictive ability.

Abstract As the fourth largest CO2 emitter, Russia's constituent entities collectively contribute with vast territory and regional heterogeneity. Existing studies only present production‐based inventories; state‐level consumption‐based emissions patterns and driving forces remain rare. Here, we built the Russia state‐level Multi‐regional input‐output table to ascertain heterogeneity in consumption‐based emissions and track carbon flows in the inter‐state. We found that 60% of consumption‐based emissions coming from affluent areas (top 20% of the GRP), including Moscow (139.1 Mt) and St. Petersburg (50.5 Mt). Energy‐intensive regions also had huge consumption‐based emissions (31.6 Mt in Khanty‐Mansi Autonomous Okrug and 29.4 Mt in Republic of Tatarstan). Household consumption emissions accounted for 41%–73% of consumption‐based emissions in the 83 regions, except for Tula and Lipetsk, where fixed capital formation dominated. In addition, the major contributor of embodied emissions in households were power and services sectors, which contributed about 8%–61% (0.03 Mt–12.7 Mt) and 12%–40% (0.1 Mt–20.1 Mt). In Russia's low carbon transition, policymakers should not only focus on a local mitigation policy in developed states (such as Moscow and St. Petersburg), but on key sectors to curb the consumption. Regions with high carbon intensity should switch to renewable energy and implement cleaner production techniques in high‐emission industries.

Abstract Copper, a trace element and vital cofactor, plays a crucial role in the maintenance of biological functions. Recent evidence has established significant correlations between copper levels, cancer development and metastasis. The strong redox‐active properties of copper offer both benefits and disadvantages to cancer cells. The intestinal tract, which is primarily responsible for copper uptake and regulation, may suffer from an imbalance in copper homeostasis. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most prevalent primary cancer of the intestinal tract and is an aggressive malignant disease with limited therapeutic options. Current research is primarily focused on the relationship between copper and CRC. Innovative concepts, such as cuproplasia and cuproptosis, are being explored to understand copper‐related cellular proliferation and death. Cuproplasia is the regulation of cell proliferation that is mediated by both enzymatic and nonenzymatic copper‐modulated activities. Whereas, cuproptosis refers to cell death induced by excess copper via promoting the abnormal oligomerisation of lipoylated proteins within the tricarboxylic acid cycle, as well as by diminishing the levels of iron‐sulphur cluster proteins. A comprehensive understanding of copper‐related cellular proliferation and death mechanisms offers new avenues for CRC treatment. In this review, we summarise the evolving molecular mechanisms, ranging from abnormal intracellular copper concentrations to the copper‐related proteins that are being discovered, and discuss the role of copper in the pathogenesis, progression and potential therapies for CRC. Understanding the relationship between copper and CRC will help provide a comprehensive theoretical foundation for innovative treatment strategies in CRC management.

Abstract Endotoxemia‐related acute liver injury has a poor prognosis and high mortality, and macrophage polarization plays a central role in the pathological process. Pregnane X receptor (PXR) serves as a nuclear receptor and xenosensor, safeguarding the liver from toxic stimuli. However, the effect and underlying mechanism of PXR activation on endotoxemic liver injury remain largely unknown. Here, the expression of PXR is reported in human and murine macrophages, and PXR activation modified immunotypes of macrophages. Moreover, PXR activation significantly attenuated endotoxemic liver injury and promoted macrophage M2 polarization. Macrophage depletion by GdCl3 confirmed the essential of macrophages in the beneficial effects observed with PXR activation. The role of PXR in macrophages is further validated using AAV8‐F4/80‐Pxr shRNA‐treated mice; the PXR‐mediated hepatoprotection is impaired, and M2 polarization enhancement is blunted. Additionally, treatment with PXR agonists inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced M1 polarization and favored M2 polarization in BMDM, Raw264.7, and THP‐1 cells. Further analyses revealed an interaction between PXR and p‐STAT6 in vivo and in vitro. Moreover, blocking Pxr or Stat6 abolished the PXR‐induced polarization shift. Collectively, macrophage PXR activation attenuated endotoxin‐induced liver injury and regulated macrophage polarization through the STAT6 signaling pathway, which provided a potential therapeutic target for managing endotoxemic liver injury.

Abstract This study systematically analyzed the molecular mechanism and function of nuclear factor kappa B subunit 2 (NFKB2) in colorectal cancer (CRC) to investigate the potential of NFKB2 as a therapeutic target for CRC. Various experimental techniques, including RNA sequencing, proteome chip assays, and small molecule analysis, were used to obtain a deeper understanding of the regulation of NFKB2 in CRC. The results revealed that NFKB2 was upregulated in a significant proportion of patients with advanced hepatic metastasis of CRC. NFKB2 played an important role in promoting tumor growth through CD8+ T‐cell exhaustion. Moreover, NFKB2 directly interacted with signal transducer and activator of transcription 2 (STAT2), leading to increased phosphorylation of STAT2 and the upregulation of programmed death ligand 1 (PD‐L1). Applying a small molecule inhibitor of NFKB2 (Rg5) led to a reduction in PD‐L1 expression and improved response to programmed death‐1 blockade‐based immunotherapy. In conclusion, the facilitated NFKB2‐STAT2/PD‐L1 axis may suppress immune surveillance in CRC and targeting NFKB2 may enhance the efficacy of immunotherapeutic strategies. Our results provide novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the contribution of NFKB2 in CRC immune escape.

Abstract Background While previous studies have indicated variability in distant metastatic potential among different mismatch repair (MMR) states in colorectal cancer (CRC), their findings remain inconclusive, especially considering potential differences across various ethnic backgrounds. Furthermore, the gene regulatory networks and the underlying mechanisms responsible for these variances in metastatic potential across MMR states have yet to be elucidated. Methods We collected 2058 consecutive primary CRC samples from the South West of China and assessed the expression of MMR proteins (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2) using immunohistochemistry. To explore the inconsistencies between different MMR statuses and recurrence, we performed a meta‐analysis. To delve deeper, we employed Weighted Gene Co‐expression Network Analysis (WGCNA), ClueGo, and iRegulon, pinpointing gene expression networks and key regulatory molecules linked to metastasis and recurrence in CRC. Lastly, both univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were applied to determine the impact of core regulatory molecules on metastasis. Results Of the samples, 8.2% displayed deficient MMR (dMMR), with losses of MLH1 and PSM2 observed in 40.8% and 63.9%, respectively. A unique 24.3% isolated loss of PMS2 without concurrent metastasis was identified, a result that diverges from established literature. Additionally, our meta‐analysis further solidifies the reduced recurrence likelihood in dMMR CRC samples compared to proficient MMR (pMMR). Two gene expression networks tied to distant metastasis and recurrence were identified, with a majority of metastasis‐related genes located on chromosomes 8 and 18. An IRF1 positive feedback loop was discerned in the metastasis‐related network, and IRF1 was identified as a predictive marker for both recurrence‐free and distant metastasis‐free survival across multiple datasets. Conclusion Geographical and ethnic factors might influence peculiarities in MMR protein loss. Our findings also highlight new gene expression networks and crucial regulatory molecules in CRC metastasis, enhancing our comprehension of the mechanisms driving distant metastasis.

Abstract Background Chromosomal translocations involving core binding factor (CBF) genes account for 15% of adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cases in China. Despite being classified as favorable‐risk by European Leukemia Net (ELN), CBF‐AML patients have a 40% relapse rate. This study aims to analyze clinical characteristics and prognosis of CBF‐AML, compare its subtypes (inv(16) and t(8;21)), and validate prognostic factors. Methods Retrospective analysis of 149 AML patients (75 CBF‐AML, 74 non‐CBF) at Peking University First Hospital (March 2012–March 2022). Results CBF‐AML patients have significantly lower disease‐free survival (DFS) (p = 0.005) and higher non‐relapse mortality (NRM) (p = 0.028) compared to non‐CBF AML. inv (16) and t(8;21) show distinct co‐occurring gene mutation patterns, with inv(16) being prone to central nervous system (CNS) leukemia. Multivariate analysis identifies age as a risk factor for overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS), kinase mutation as a risk factor for DFS and Recurrence, while WT1 mutation as a risk factor for OS and non relapse mortality (NRM) risk in t(8;21) AML. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT) improves prognosis in low‐risk t(8;21). Conclusion Prognosis of CBF‐AML is poorer than ELN guidelines suggest. inv(16) and (8;21) are separate entities with relatively poor prognoses, requiring rational risk stratification strategies. Allo‐HSCT may benefit low‐risk t(8;21), but further research is needed for conclusive evidence.

Abstract Aim The purpose of this study was to comprehend the need for incorporating death education within the curriculum of undergraduate nursing students and to assess the factors that impact the desire for such education. Design We enlisted undergraduate nursing students from several nursing colleges located in the central and west region of China. Undergraduate students who fulfilled the eligibility criteria between January and February 2021 were chosen to participate. Data were collected via an online platform called Questionnaire Star. The survey encompassed a general information questionnaire and a scale for assessing the need for education on the topic of death. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 20.0 software, while multivariate stepwise regression was employed for more complex analysis. Statistical significance was indicated when the p‐value was below 0.05, and high statistical significance was noted when the p‐value fell below 0.01. Methods We designed a descriptive quantitative approach to investigate the need for death education and its associated factors. The research involved 907 undergraduate nursing students from the central and west region of China. The data collection was done through the Questionnaire Star platform. Results Following the collection of completed surveys, individuals displaying contradictory responses were omitted. Out of 911 surveys disseminated, 907 were successfully collected, resulting in a recovery rate of 99.6%. Among the participants, 769 identified as female, constituting 84.8% of the total, while 138 identified as male, making up 15.2%. Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies, and early detection plays a crucial role in enhancing curative outcomes. While colonoscopy is considered the gold standard for CRC diagnosis, noninvasive screening methods of DNA methylation biomarkers can improve the early detection of CRC and precancerous lesions. Methods Bioinformatics and machine learning methods were used to evaluate CRC‐related genes within the TCGA database. By identifying the overlapped genes, potential biomarkers were selected for further validation. Methylation‐specific PCR (MSP) was utilized to identify the associated genes as biomarkers. Subsequently, a real‐time PCR assay for detecting the presence of neoplasia or cancer of the colon or rectum was established. This screening approach involved the recruitment of 978 participants from five cohorts. Results The genes with the highest specificity and sensitivity were Septin9, AXL4, and SDC2. A total of 940 participants were involved in the establishment of the final PCR system and the subsequent performance evaluation test. A multiplex TaqMan real‐time PCR system has been illustrated to greatly enhance the ability to detect precancerous lesions and achieved an accuracy of 87.8% (95% CI 82.9–91.5), a sensitivity of 82.7% (95% CI 71.8–90.1), and a specificity of 90.1% (95% CI 84.3–93.9). Moreover, the detection rate of precancerous lesions of this assay reached 55.0% (95% CI 38.7–70.4). Conclusion The combined detection of the methylation status of SEPT9, SDC2, and ALX4 in plasma holds the potential to further enhance the sensitivity of CRC detection.

Abstract The rearranged during transfection (RET) gene is one of the receptor tyrosine kinases and cell‐surface molecules responsible for transmitting signals that regulate cell growth and differentiation. In non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), RET fusion is a rare driver gene alteration associated with a poor prognosis. Fortunately, two selective RET inhibitors (sRETi), namely pralsetinib and selpercatinib, have been approved for treating RET fusion NSCLC due to their remarkable efficacy and safety profiles. These inhibitors have shown the ability to overcome resistance to multikinase inhibitors (MKIs). Furthermore, ongoing clinical trials are investigating several second‐generation sRETis that are specifically designed to target solvent front mutations, which pose a challenge for first‐generation sRETis. The effective screening of patients is the first crucial step in the clinical application of RET‐targeted therapy. Currently, four methods are widely used for detecting gene rearrangements: next‐generation sequencing (NGS), reverse transcription‐polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Each of these methods has its advantages and limitations. To streamline the clinical workflow and improve diagnostic and treatment strategies for RET fusion NSCLC, our expert group has reached a consensus. Our objective is to maximize the clinical benefit for patients and promote standardized approaches to RET fusion screening and therapy.

Abstract Organic donor‐acceptor semiconductors exhibit great potential in photothermal conversion. However, it is still challenging to achieve pure organic materials with broad absorption comparable with inorganic materials such as graphene. Herein, two D‐A‐D type DPA‐BT‐O4 and NDI‐TPA‐O4 and three D‐A‐π‐A‐D type Th‐O4, Th2‐O4, and IDT‐O4 were readily prepared via two high‐yield steps and simple air oxidization. The stability can be attributed to their multiple resonance structures based on the aromatic nitric acid radical mechanism. Compared with the D‐A‐D radicals, the conjugation extension of the D‐A‐π‐A‐D radicals endows them with a narrowed band gap and broad absorption in powder. Interestingly, the IDT‐O4 powder with aggregation‐induced radical effect exhibits broad absorption between 300 and 2500 nm, which is comparable with graphene and other inorganic materials. Under irradiation of 0.9 W/cm2 (808 nm), the temperature of IDT‐O4 powder rises to 250°C within 60 s. The water evaporation conversion efficiency of 94.38 % and an evaporation rate of 1.365 kg/m2 h−1 under one sun illumination were achieved. IDT‐O4 stands as one of the most efficient photothermal conversion materials among pure organic materials via a rational design strategy.

With the development of industrial demand, precise identification of system models is currently required in the field of industrial control, which limits the whale search algorithm. In response to the fact that whale optimization algorithms are prone to falling into local optima and the identification of important Hammerstein models ignores the issue of noise outliers in actual industrial environments, this study improves the whale algorithm and constructs a Hammerstein model identification strategy for nonlinear systems under heavy-tailed noise using the improved whale algorithm. Results showed that it had a lower rank average and an average success rate of 95.65%. It found the global optimum when the number of iterations reached around 150 and had faster convergence speed and accuracy. In identifying Hammerstein model under heavy-tailed noise, the average prediction recognition accuracy of the improved whale algorithm was 92.38%, the determination coefficient was 0.89, the percentage fitting error was 0.03, and the system error was 0.02. This research achievement has certain value in the field of industrial control and can serve as a technical reference.

Abstract Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a malignant tumor originating from the pleura, and its incidence has been increasing in recent years. Due to the insidious onset and strong local invasiveness of MPM, most patients are diagnosed in the late stage and early screening and treatment for high‐risk populations are crucial. The treatment of MPM mainly includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Immunotherapy and electric field therapy have also been applied, leading to further improvements in patient survival. The Mesothelioma Group of the Yangtze River Delta Lung Cancer Cooperation Group (East China LUng caNcer Group, ECLUNG; Youth Committee) developed a national consensus on the clinical diagnosis and treatment of MPM based on existing clinical research evidence and the opinions of national experts. This consensus aims to promote the homogenization and standardization of MPM diagnosis and treatment in China, covering epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‐up.

Objective Mechanical stress is an important risk factor for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). Angiopoietin‐2 (ANG‐2) is regulated by mechanical stress and is widely involved in the regulation of extracellular matrix metabolism. In addition, the signaling cascade between HIF‐1α and NF‐κB is critical in matrix degradation. This study aims to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of ANG‐2 in regulating the degeneration of annulus fibrosus (AF) through the HIF‐1α/NF‐κB signaling pathway. Methods The bipedal standing mice IVDD model was constructed, and histological experiments were used to evaluate the degree of IVDD and the expression of ANG‐2 in the AF. Mouse primary AF cells were extracted in vitro and subjected to mechanical stretching experiments. Western blot assay was used to detect the effect of mechanical stress on ANG‐2, and the role of the ANG‐2‐mediated HIF‐1α/NF‐κB pathway in matrix degradation. In addition, the effect of inhibiting ANG‐2 expression by siRNA or monoclonal antibody on delaying IVDD was investigated at in vitro and in vivo levels. One‐way ANOVA with the least significant difference method was used for pairwise comparison of the groups with homogeneous variance, and Dunnett's method was used to compare the groups with heterogeneous variance. Results In IVDD, the expressions of catabolic biomarkers (mmp‐13, ADAMTS‐4) and ANG‐2 were significantly increased in AF. In addition, p65 expression was increased while HIF‐1α expression was significantly decreased. The results of western blot assay showed mechanical stress significantly up‐regulated the expression of ANG‐2 in AF cells, and promoted matrix degradation by regulating the activity of HIF‐1α/NF‐κB pathway. Exogenous addition of Bay117082 and CoCl2 inhibited matrix degradation caused by mechanical stress. Moreover, injection of neutralizing antibody or treatment with siRNA to inhibit the expression of ANG‐2 improved the matrix metabolism of AF and inhibited IVDD progression by regulating the HIF‐1α/NF‐κB signaling pathway. Conclusion In IVDD, mechanical stress could regulate the HIF‐1α/NF‐κB signaling pathway and matrix degradation by mediating ANG‐2 expression in AF degeneration.

Abstract Thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) are a relatively rare type of thoracic tumor, accounting for less than 1% of all tumors. The incidence of TETs is about 3.93/10000 in China, slightly higher than that of European and American countries. For resectable TETs, complete surgical resection is recommended. Radiotherapy or chemotherapy may be used as postoperative adjuvant treatment. Treatment for advanced, unresectable TETs consist mainly of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but there is a lack of standard first‐ and second‐line treatment regimens. Recently, targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors have shown promising outcomes in TETs. Based on the currently available clinical evidences and the opinions of the national experts, the Thymic Oncology Group of Yangtze River Delta Lung Cancer Cooperation Group (East China LUng caNcer Group, ECLUNG; Youth Committee) established this Chinese expert consensus on the clinical diagnosis and treatment of TETs, covering the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and follow‐up of TETs.

Abstract Constructing a functional layer on the surface of commercial membrane (as a substrate) to inhibit the formation of biofilms is an efficient strategy to prepare an antibacterial anion exchange membrane (AEM). Herein, a rechargeable multifunctional anti‐biological system is reported by utilizing the mussel‐inspired L‐dopa connection function on commercial AEMs. Cobalt nanoparticles (Co NPs) and N‐chloramine compounds are deposited on the AEM surface by a two‐step modification procedure. The anti‐biofouling abilities of the membranes are qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by adopting common Gram‐negative (E. coli) and Gram‐positive (S. aureus & Bacillus) bacteria as model biofouling organisms. The optimized membrane exhibits a high stability concerning the NaCl solution separation performance within 240 min. Meantime, the mechanism of the anti‐adhesion is un‐veiled at an atomic level and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation are conducted to measure the interaction, adsorption energy and average loading by using lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of E. coli. In view of the superior performance of antibacterial surfaces, it is believed that this work could provide a valuable guideline for the design of membrane materials with resistance to biological contamination.

Abstract Despite recent progress in subtype classification for small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), little is known about the biomarker for triple‐negative (ASCL1, NEUROD1, and POU2F3 negative) tumors. The long‐term survival, adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) response, and immune milieu in different SCLC subtypes have also not been well established. Here, we retrospectively collected a large cohort of 192 primary SCLC tumors and reported that ASCL1‐, NEUROD1‐ and POU2F3‐dominant subtypes counted for 61.38%, 19.31%, and 6.21%, respectively. Subtype intra‐tumoral heterogeneity and co‐expression at the single‐cell level existed substantially. Abstract Studies in recent years have highlighted an elaborate crosstalk between T cells and bone cells, suggesting that T cells may be alternative therapeutic targets for the maintenance of bone homeostasis. Here, it is reported that systemic administration of low‐dose staphylococcal enterotoxin C2 (SEC2) 2M‐118, a form of mutant superantigen, dramatically alleviates ovariectomy (OVX)‐induced bone loss via modulating T cells. Specially, SEC2 2M‐118 treatment increases trabecular bone mass significantly via promoting bone formation in OVX mice. These beneficial effects are largely diminished in T‐cell‐deficient nude mice and can be rescued by T‐cell reconstruction. Neutralizing assays determine interferon gamma (IFN‐γ) as the key factor that mediates the beneficial effects of SEC2 2M‐118 on bone. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that IFN‐γ stimulates Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK–STAT) signaling, leading to enhanced production of nitric oxide, which further activates p38 mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) and Runt‐related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) signaling and promotes osteogenic differentiation. IFN‐γ also directly inhibits osteoclast differentiation, but this effect is counteracted by proabsorptive factors tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF‐α) and interleukin 1 beta (IL‐1β) secreted from IFN‐γ‐stimulated macrophages. Taken together, this work provides clues for developing innovative approaches which target T cells for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

Abstract Organic light‐emitting transistors (OLETs) have attracted increasing attention because of their potential applications in next‐generation displays and high‐energy operating devices. However, the simultaneous achievement of high luminescent efficiency and carrier mobility in organic semiconductors remains challenging because the localized excitons are advantageous for light emission, whereas the delocalized carriers are beneficial for efficient charge migration. Herein, we report an organic single crystal of a cyano‐substituted styrene derivative with balanced mobility yielding a record‐high external quantum efficiency of 20.5% in OLETs. Temperature‐dependent I–V curves and electronic structure analyses based on first‐principles calculations were performed to disclose the underlying mechanism as a band transport, which provides an efficient way to achieve high quantum efficiency in OLETs.

Abstract Interlayer interactions in two dimensional (2D) materials promote catalytic performance but often depend on the transport of inter rather than intralayer electrons. In this study, it is found that asymmetric metal‐nanocluster‐doped 2D g‐C3N4 greatly enhances catalytic performance by inducing microwave excitation of interlayer electron delocalization, resulting in a polarization of interlaminar charge transport for microwave disinfection and pneumonia therapy. Asymmetric Fe and Cu nanocluster doping (DCN‐FeCu) enables g‐C3N4 to generate interlayer electrons under microwave irradiation, leading to interlayer polarization processes and electron delocalization effects, thus enhancing the interlayer migration efficiency of electrons. It also improves impurity energy levels and leads to a decrease in work function, allowing DCN‐FeCu to produce microwave carriers across the photoelectric potential barrier under low‐energy microwave radiation (2.45 GHz). This asymmetric doping modulation produces layer number‐dependent microwave electron excitations that are verified using multi‐metal doping. Therefore, structurally modulated asymmetric doping of 2D materials with interfacial spatial effects can provide efficient microwave disinfection and pneumonia therapy.

Abstract Gene fusions can drive tumor development for multiple types of cancer. Currently, many drugs targeting gene fusions are being approved for clinical application. At present, tyrosine receptor kinase (TRK) inhibitors targeting neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase (NTRK) gene fusions are among the first “tumor agnostic” drugs approved for pan‐cancer use. Representative TRK inhibitors, including larotrectinib and entrectinib, have shown high efficacy for many types of cancer. At the same time, several second‐generation drugs designed to overcome first‐generation drug resistance are undergoing clinical development. Due to the rarity of NTRK gene fusions in common cancer types and technical issues regarding the complexity of fusion patterns, effectively screening patients for TRK inhibitor treatment in routine clinical practice is challenging. Different detection methods including immunohistochemistry, fluorescence in situ hybridization, reverse transcription‐polymerase chain reaction, and (DNA and/or RNA‐based) next‐generation sequencing have pros and cons. As such, recommending suitable tests for individual patients and ensuring the quality of tests is essential. Moreover, at present, there is a lack of systematic review for the clinical efficacy and development status of first‐ and second‐generation TRK inhibitors. To resolve the above issues, our expert group has reached a consensus regarding the diagnosis and treatment of NTRK gene fusion solid tumors, aiming to standardize clinical practice with the goal of benefiting patients with NTRK gene fusions treated with TRK inhibitors.

Abstract Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is an efficient technique to diagnose transformer faults; however, the imbalance of the sample datasets is frequently observed in DGA, which has become one of the main challenges for accurate fault diagnosis. A generative adversarial network (GAN) model is proposed to realize the data augmentation for addressing these problems. The GAN model is nested by two backpropagation neural networks (BPNN) containing a generator and a discriminator. The generator produces real‐like data and continuously shapes the real‐like data approximate to real data. The discriminator works to distinguish between the real‐like data and the real data until the real‐like data cannot be discriminated. Under this adversarial learning, the generator output obtains the real‐like DGA samples to supplement the minority samples. To verify the diagnosis accuracy after the DGA data augmentation, three typically intelligent models, that is, BPNN, support vector machine (SVM) and deep belief network (DBN) are introduced to establish the diagnostic models. The results show that the recognition accuracy of the minority samples acquires average 30%, 25% and 50% increases for the three models respectively. It is shown that the GAN model well balances the sample datasets and strengthens the performance of the fault diagnostic models.

Objective Currently, there is a lack of good clinical tools for evaluating the effect of chemotherapy preoperatively on primary high‐grade bone sarcomas. Our goal was to investigate the predictive value of the clinical findings and establish a scoring system to predict chemotherapy response. Methods We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study and reviewed 322 patients with primary high‐grade bone sarcomas. Patients who routinely received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and underwent primary tumor resection with an assessment of tumor necrosis rate (TNR) were enrolled in this study. The medical records of patients were collected from November 1, 2011, to March 1, 2018, at Peking University People's Hospital (PKUPH) and Peking University Shougang Hospital (PKUSH). The mean age of the patients was 16.2 years (range 3–52 years), of whom 65.5% were male. The clinical data collected before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy included the degree of pain, laboratory inspection, X‐ray, CT, contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance (MR), and positron emission tomography‐computed tomography (PET‐CT). Several machine learning models, including logistic regression, decision trees, support vector machines, and neural networks, were used to classify the chemotherapy responses. Area under the curve (AUC) of the scoring system to predict chemotherapy response is the primary outcome measure. Results For patients without events, a minimum follow‐up of 24 months was achieved. The median follow‐up time was 43.3 months, and it ranged from 24 to 84 months. The 5 years progression‐free survival (PFS) of the included patients was 54.1%. The 5 years PFS rate was 39.7% for poor responders and 74.9% for good responders. Features such as longest diameter reduction ratio (up to three points), clear bone boundary formation (up to two points), tumor necrosis measured by magnetic resonance (up to two points), maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) decrease (up to three points), and significant alkaline phosphatase decrease (up to 1 point) were identified as significant predictors of good histological response and constituted the scoring system. A score ≥4 predicts a good response to chemotherapy. The scoring system based on the above factors performed well, achieving an AUC of 0.893. For nonmeasurable lesions (classified by the revised Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors [RECIST 1.1]), the AUC was 0.901. Conclusion We first devised a well‐performing comprehensive scoring system to predict the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in primary high‐grade bone sarcomas.

Abstract Silicone grease (SG) is used for lubrication during cable accessory installation and can penetrate into the silicone rubber (SiR), leading to properties deterioration of the SiR. In this study, the effects of SG on the breakdown characteristics of the cross‐linked polyethylene (XLPE)–SiR interface are investigated. First, the variation of the XLPE–SiR interface breakdown voltage with SG coating time is experimentally explored. The interface breakdown voltage significantly increases after SG is applied, remains stable for coating times of up to approximately 144 h and then rapidly decreases; the minimum interface breakdown voltage is lower than that without the SG coating. Next, the effects of SG on the chemical composition and surface topography of the SiR are examined by infrared spectroscopy and optical profilometry, respectively. The SG penetration does not change the functional groups of the SiR but significantly increases its surface roughness. Finally, the interface electric‐field distribution after coating with SG is analysed by finite‐element simulation, revealing that the residual SG at the interface distorts the interface electric field after a long coating time. The increase in the SiR surface roughness caused by SG diffusion and the interface electric‐field distortion caused by the residual SG together lead to the decrease of the interface breakdown voltage.

Abstract Background Recent studies indicated that T cell immunoreceptor with immunoglobulin and ITIM domains (TIGIT) and cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47) have emerged as new potential immunotherapy targets. However, the roles of TIGIT and CD47 in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) have not been fully illustrated. Methods The specimens and clinicopathological information from 190 LUSC patients who underwent surgeries in our center were retrospectively collected. Immunohistochemical staining for TIGIT and CD47 was conducted. Transcriptional and clinical data of 479 LUSC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Abstract The electrolyte‐wettability of electrode materials in liquid electrolytes plays a crucial role in electrochemical energy storage, conversion systems, and beyond relied on interface electrochemical process. However, most electrode materials do not have satisfactory electrolyte‐wettability for possibly electrochemical reaction. In the last 30 years, there are a lot of literature have directed at exploiting methods to improve electrolyte‐wettability of electrodes, understanding basic electrolyte‐wettability mechanisms of electrode materials, exploring the effect of electrolyte‐wettability on its electrochemical energy storage, conversion, and beyond performance. This review systematically and comprehensively evaluates the effect of electrolyte‐wettability on electrochemical energy storage performance of the electrode materials used in supercapacitors, metal ion batteries, and metal‐based batteries, electrochemical energy conversion performance of the electrode materials used in fuel cells and electrochemical water splitting systems, as well as capacitive deionization performance of the electrode materials used in capacitive deionization systems. Finally, the challenges in approaches for improving electrolyte‐wettability of electrode materials, characterization techniques of electrolyte‐wettability, as well as electrolyte‐wettability of electrode materials applied in special environment and other electrochemical systems with electrodes and liquid electrolytes, which gives future possible directions for constructing interesting electrolyte‐wettability to meet the demand of high electrochemical performance, are also discussed.

Abstract 2D van der Waals (vdW) magnets have opened intriguing prospects for next‐generation spintronic nanodevices. Machine learning techniques and density functional theory calculations enable the discovery of 2D vdW magnets to be accelerated; however, current computational frameworks based on these state‐of‐the‐art approaches cannot offer probability analysis on whether a 2D vdW magnet can be experimentally demonstrated. Herein, a new framework can be established to overcome this challenge. Via the framework, 2D vdW magnets with high probability for experimental demonstration are captured from materials science literature. The key to the successful establishment is the introduction of the theory of mutual information. Historical validation of predictions substantiates the high reliability of the framework. For example, half of the 30 2D vdW magnets discovered in the literature published prior to 2017 have been experimentally demonstrated in the subsequent years. This framework has the potential to become a revolutionary force for progressing experimental discovery of 2D vdW magnets.

Objectives To analyze the causes of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis in spinal osteoid osteoma, and to put forward solutions to improve diagnosis accuracy and treatment efficacy in patients. Methods We performed a retrospective cohort study on patients with spinal osteoid osteoma in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital from January 1983 to September 2019. All patients underwent surgery. The outcome measures were the extent of local pain, nocturnal pain, radicular symptoms of extremities after surgery, and reduction or disappearance of lesions on CT after surgery. Results Thirty‐seven patients with spinal osteoid osteoma were recruited in the study. A total of 27% were female, and the mean (SD) age at diagnosis was 21.3 (8.7) years. A total of 87.0% of patients presented with nocturnal pain, and 94.7% of patients were responsive to NSAIDS treatment. The mean (SD) time from the initial onset of symptoms to the final diagnosis was 14.7 (12.5) months. Only four of 37 (10.8%) patients were correctly diagnosed with spinal osteoid osteoma on the first visit to the local hospital. CT is associated with a higher diagnosis rate than X‐ray or MRI on the first visit. Surgical navigation was used in 88.9% of patients who underwent curettage resection, and in 10% of patients who underwent en bloc resection. A total of 37 of 37 patients (100%) reported relief of local pain and radicular symptoms of extremities after surgery, and no recurrence of tumors was found during follow‐ups. Conclusions Spinal CTs are recommended to be performed if osteoid osteoma is suspected based on clinical manifestation, including nocturnal pain and responsiveness to NSAIDS treatment, to avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis of spinal osteoid osteoma.

Abstract The urgent need for power transmission is the reason for leading research on the safer operation of high‐voltage cables. These high‐voltage cables are emerging as an efficient technology for underground power transmission. However, the electrochemical corrosion of aluminium (Al) metal sheaths in these cables is a common and challenging degradation process. Herein, the corrosion mechanisms and electrochemical analysis are investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and laboratory‐designed electrochemical characterisation techniques. In the corrosion experiments, the authors evaluated the corrosion rate by measuring the release rate of hydrogen gas and explored the different roles of sodium polyacrylate (NaPA) during the corrosion process. It is found that the complexation reactions between NaPA and Al inhibited corrosion while increased the resistance of the buffer layer. The proposed mechanisms of corrosion in this study can improve the lifespan and sustainability of high‐voltage power transmission.

Abstract Unraveling atomic‐level active sites of layered photocatalyst towards low‐concentration CO2 conversion is still challenging. Herein, the yield and selectivity of photocatalytic CO2 reduction of the Aurivillius‐related oxide semiconductor Bi2O2SiO3 nanosheet (BOSO) were largely improved using a surface sulfidation strategy. The experiment and theoretical calculation confirmed that surface sulfidation of the Bi2O2SiO3 nanosheet (S‐BOSO, 6.28 nm) redistributed the charge‐enriched Bi sites, extended the solar spectrum absorption to the whole visible range, and considerably enhanced the charge separation, in addition to creating new reaction active sites, as compared to pristine BOSO. Subsequently, surface sulfidation played a switchable role, wherein S‐BOSO showed a very high CH3OH generation rate (12.78 µmol g−1 for 4 h, 78.6% selectivity) from low‐concentration CO2 (1000 ppm) under visible light irradiation, which outperforms most of the state‐of‐the‐art photocatalysts under similar conditions. This study presents an atomic‐level modification protocol for engineering reactive sites and charge behaviors to promote solar‐to‐energy conversion.

Abstract Artificial synapses and neurons are crucial milestones for neuromorphic computing hardware, and memristors with resistive and threshold switching characteristics are regarded as the most promising candidates for the construction of hardware neural networks. However, most of the memristors can only operate in one mode, that is, resistive switching or threshold switching, and distinct memristors are required to construct fully memristive neuromorphic computing hardware, making it more complex for the fabrication and integration of the hardware. Herein, we propose a flexible dual‐mode memristor array based on core–shell CsPbBr3@graphdiyne nanocrystals, which features a 100% transition yield, small cycle‐to‐cycle and device‐to‐device variability, excellent flexibility, and environmental stability. Based on this dual‐mode memristor, homo‐material‐based fully memristive neuromorphic computing hardware—a power‐free artificial nociceptive signal processing system and a spiking neural network—are constructed for the first time. Our dual‐mode memristors greatly simplify the fabrication and integration of fully memristive neuromorphic systems.

Aims. Giant cell tumor of the bone (GCTB) is associated with considerable morbidity. As GCTB epidemiological data for China are limited, this study is aimed at describing the disease characteristics of GCTB in China and establishing the historical context for its treatment before recent advances in treatment options. Methods. The disease characteristics, treatment patterns, and local GCTB recurrence rate after primary surgery for GCTB were evaluated in this single-center, retrospective, noninterventional, observational study of patients treated for GCTB at Ji Shui Tan Hospital, Beijing, from 2009 to 2016 based on medical chart review. Patients with unmet need were defined as those whose surgical treatment was difficult or who had to undergo high-morbidity surgery. Results. Among the 668 patients with a primary GCTB diagnosis, 578 (86.5%) of target lesions were in the extremities, and 89 (13.3%) were in the pelvic or axial bone. Of these, 173 (25.9%) were characterized as having an unmet need. Almost all GCTB patients received surgical treatment at both primary diagnosis (666/668 (99.7%)) and last disease recurrence (196/200 (98.0%)). Additionally, about one-third of patients received nonsurgical treatment at primary diagnosis (205/668 (30.7%)) and disease recurrence (67/200 (33.5%)), with neoadjuvant therapy being the most common treatment. The rate of high-morbidity surgery increased for recurrent disease (65/200 (32.5%)) compared with primary diagnosis (111/668 (16.6%)). The 2-year cumulative incidence of postoperative disease recurrence was 29.2%, in line with rates observed in prior studies. Conclusion. As many patients with primary and recurrent disease received high-morbidity surgery, more effective treatments are needed.

Tiegun yam is a typical food and medicine agricultural product, which has the effects of nourishing the kidney and benefitting the lungs. The quality and price of Tiegun yam are affected by its origin, and counterfeiting and adulteration are common. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a method to identify the origin and index component contents of Tiegun yam. Hyperspectral imaging combined with chemometrics was used, for the first time, to explore and implement the identification of origin and index component contents of Tiegun yam. The origin identification models were established by partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF) using full wavelength and feature wavelength. Compared with other models, MSC-PLS-DA is the best model, and the accuracy of the training set and prediction set is 100% and 98.40%. Partial least squares regression (PLSR), random forest (RF), and support vector regression (SVR) models were used to predict the contents of starch, polysaccharide, and protein in Tiegun yam powder. The optimal residual predictive deviation (RPD) values of starch, polysaccharide, and protein prediction models selected in this study were 5.21, 3.21, and 2.94, respectively. The characteristic wavelength extracted by the successive projections algorithm (SPA) method can achieve similar results as the full-wavelength model. These results confirmed the application of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) in the identification of the origin and the rapid nondestructive prediction of starch, polysaccharide, and protein contents of Tiegun yam powder. Therefore, the HSI combined with the chemometric method was available for conveniently and accurately determining the origin and index component contents of Tiegun yam, which can expect to be an attractive alternative method for identifying the origin of other food.

Sepsis is a high-incidence disease and demands intensive care. Finding effective treatment is the key to cure sepsis. Studies have shown a lower level of vitamin C in patients with sepsis. Therefore, vitamin C supplementation has become one of the measures to treat sepsis. However, the clinical studies of vitamin C in the treatment of sepsis have been controversial. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate vitamin C’s efficacy and safety in the treatment of sepsis. We searched four electronic databases: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library, and two researchers independently screened 24 eligible RCTs published in English. Our review demonstrates that intravenous (IV) vitamin C might improve short-term mortality (RR, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.65–1.02; P=0.07; and I2 = 45%) and overall mortality (RR, 0.86; 95% CI, 0.74–1.01; P=0.06; and I2 = 51%) of patients with sepsis. Moreover, the SOFA score of patients with sepsis improved significantly after treatment with vitamin C for over 72 hours (RR, 0.26; 95% CI, 0.09–0.42; P=0.002; and I2 = 0%). The main results of our study were moderate-quality evidence. More high-quality, multicenter RCTs are needed to provide more substantial evidence on the efficacy and safety of IV vitamin C for sepsis.

Abstract The high mortality rate of patients with diabetic foot ulcers is urging the appearance of an effective biomedical drug. Senescence is one of the major reasons of aging‐induced decline in the diabetic wound. Our previous studies have demonstrated the anti‐senescence effect of secretomes derived from human fetal mesenchymal stem cells (hfMSC). The present study tends to explore the potential role of hfMSC secretome (HFS) in wound healing through anti‐aging. Meanwhile, we try to overcome several obstacles in the clinical application of stem cell secretome. A verticle bioreactor and microcarriers are employed to expand hfMSC and produce the HFS on a large scale. The HFS was then subjected to lyophilization (L‐HFS). The PLGA (poly lactic‐co‐glycolic acid) particles were used to encapsulate and protect L‐HFS from degradation in the streptozotocin (STZ)‐induced diabetic rat model. Results showed that HFS‐PLGA significantly enhanced wound healing by promoting vascularization and inhibiting inflammation in the skin wound bed. We further analyzed the contents of HFS. Isobaric tag for relative and absolute quantitation (ITRAQ) and label‐free methods were used to identify peptides in the secretome. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that exosome production‐related singling pathways and heat‐shock protein family could be used as bio‐functional markers and quality control for stem cell secretome production.

Abstract Background The combined positive score (CPS) of the programmed death ligand‐1 (PD‐L1) 22C3 assay is a predictive marker of pembrolizumab monotherapy for advanced esophageal cancer (EC) patients. However, little is known about the association of the PD‐L1 22C3 CPS with the clinicopathological features and heterogeneity of PD‐L1 expression in EC in the Chinese population in a real‐world setting. Methods We examined the association of the PD‐L1 22C3 CPS with clinicopathological characteristics in 533 EC specimens. Further, we compared 37 cases' different blocks of the same specimen and 50 paired primary/metastatic lymph node lesions to investigate the heterogeneity of PD‐L1 expression. Results PD‐L1 positive expression was observed in 45.0% of 533 EC patients, including 46.8% with squamous cell carcinoma, 15.4% with adenocarcinoma, 28.6% with basaloid squamous carcinoma, 42.9% with spindle cell carcinoma, and 33.3% with neuroendocrine tumors. PD‐L1 positive expression was positively associated with lymph node metastasis (59.2% chance, p = 0.021) and venous/lymphatic invasion (66.3% chance, p = 0.029). PD‐L1 expression was highly consistent in different paraffin blocks of the same surgically resected specimen (concordance rate: 86.5%, p = 0.000016) and a moderate consistency (concordance rate: 78.0%, p = 0.000373) for the primary and metastatic lymph node lesion comparison. Conclusions This is a novel study which demonstrated a positive correlation between a high PD‐L1 22C3 CPS and invasion/metastasis risk in EC surgical specimens. Both paired blocks and paired primary/metastatic lymph node lesions showed significant concordance. PD‐L1 heterogeneity was inferred to be mainly related to positive mononuclear inflammatory cells (MICs), which might have substantial implications for clinical practice.

Abstract Atomically thin two‐dimensional (2D) bismuth oxychalcogenides (Bi2O2X, X = S, Se, Te) have recently attracted extensive attention in the material research community due to their unique structure, outstanding long‐term ambient stability, and high carrier mobility, which enable them as promising candidates for high‐performance electronic and optoelectronic applications. Herein, we present a comprehensive review on the recent advances of 2D bismuth oxychalcogenides research. We start with an introduction of their fundamental properties including crystal structure and electronic band structure. Next, we summarize the common techniques for synthesizing these 2D structures with high crystallinity and large lateral size. Furthermore, we elaborate on their device applications including transistors, artificial synapses, optical switch and photodetectors. The last but not the least, we summarize the existing challenges and prospects for this emerging 2D bismuth oxychalcogenides field.

Abstract Introduction Sevoflurane acts as a gamma‐aminobutyric acid subtype A receptor agonist and can induce widespread apoptosis of immature dentate granule cells in postnatal day 21 mice. The dentate granule cells of postnatal day 21 mice undergo a developmental stage when gamma‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) shifts from inducing the depolarization of neurons to causing hyperpolarization. However, it is unclear whether sevoflurane induces apoptosis of immature granule cells by facilitating the depolarization or hyperpolarization of neurons. Methods We utilized bumetanide, an Na+–K+–2Cl− cotransporter isoform 1 (NKCC1) antagonist, to determine whether the NKCC1‐mediated GABA depolarization of neurons plays a role in sevoflurane‐induced neuroapoptosis. We also investigated whether sevoflurane exposure is related to long‐term cognitive dysfunction in postnatal day 21 mice and explored the possible protective effects of bumetanide. Results Bumetanide attenuated the sevoflurane‐induced apoptosis of dentate granule cells in postnatal day 21 mice. Exposure to sevoflurane at postnatal day 21 mice did not affect their motor ability or anxiety level, and it had no effect on spatial learning or memory functions. However, sevoflurane exposure at postnatal day 21 impaired the pattern separation ability in the contextual fear discrimination test; bumetanide mitigated this effect of sevoflurane as well. Conclusion Bumetanide attenuates sevoflurane‐induced apoptosis and is a promising prospect for protecting against anesthesia‐induced neurotoxicity in the developing brain.

Abstract Achieving robust underwater adhesion by bioadhesives remains a challenge due to interfacial water. Herein a coacervate‐to‐hydrogel strategy to enhance interfacial water repulsion and bulk adhesion of bioadhesives is reported. The polyethyleneimine/thioctic acid (PEI/TA) coacervate is deposited onto underwater substrates, which can effectively repel interfacial water and completely spread into substrate surface irregularities due to its liquid and water‐immiscible nature. The physical interactions between coacervate and substrate can further enhance interfacial adhesion. Furthermore, driven by the spontaneous hydrophobic aggregation of TA molecules and strong electrostatic interaction between PEI and TA, the coacervate can turn into a hydrogel in situ within minutes without additional stimuli to develop enhanced matrix cohesion and robust bulk adhesion on diverse underwater substrates. Molecular dynamics simulations further reveal atomistic details of the formation and wet adhesion of the PEI/TA coacervate via multimode physical interactions. Lastly, it is demonstrated that the PEI/TA coacervate‐derived hydrogel can effectively repel blood and therefore efficiently deliver the carried growth factors at wound sites, thereby enhancing wound healing in an animal model. The advantages of the PEI/TA coacervate‐derived hydrogel including body fluid‐immiscibility, strong underwater adhesion, adaptability to fit irregular target sites, and excellent biocompatibility make it a promising bioadhesive for diverse biomedical applications.

Abstract The contribution of intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams (IRES) to the global carbon cycle has largely been overlooked. Flood events can impact hydrological processes, carbon (C) transport, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This study monitored river flow and sediment concentrations in an intermittent river during a flood event. Water samples were measured for water quality factors and C transport indices. CO2 partial pressure (pCO2) and CO2 flux (FCO2) were also analyzed. Remote sensing data were used to analyze soil erosion in the basin. Results indicate that the total sediment load from the flood was approximately 5503.1 t, with sediment concentrations showing a direct relationship with flow discharge. By completing a hysteresis loop and soil erosion level analysis, soil erosion from the river source and runoff surface scour were found to be the primary sources of sediment. The flood significantly increased particulate organic carbon and decreased dissolved organic carbon. During the flood, pCO2 ranged between 669 and 1229 ppm, indicating that the IRES served as a carbon source, with pH and total dissolved solids being the main influencing factors. The FCO2 varied between 20.16 and 568.33 mg m−2 h−1 and revealed a significant positive correlation with pCO2. After the flood ended, CO2 emissions increased and remained high for a long time. The study findings have substantial implications for IRES responses to extreme flood events, which are predicted to increase in intensity under climate change.

Abstract Using a simple one‐step hydrothermal method, benzyl triethylammonium chloride was used to assist the synthesis of double core‐shell oxygen‐incorporated molybdenum disulfide (DB‐O‐MoS2), and its friction and wear properties were measured on the MRS‐10A four‐ball testing machine. They were characterised by X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, thermogravimetry, Brunner−Emmet−Teller and Fourier transform infrared spectroscope. Friction and wear properties of DB‐O‐MoS2 were measured at different concentrations. The results showed that the tribological properties of SN 5W‐40 base oil have been improved by adding the DB‐O‐MoS2 as lubricant additives. The possibility of DB‐O‐MoS2 mechanisms by which the nanolubricants improved the tribological properties were put forward. Therefore, research on DB‐O‐MoS2 is beneficial to the development of new engine lubricant additives.

Abstract Although it has been emphasized for years, there remains insufficient knowledge on how to decompose the driving forces of carbon emissions that fluctuate with time, especially when considering the major natural or socio‐economic events. To bridge the knowledge gap, we use the structural decomposition analysis method and select Japan for a case study. The results show that such events were followed by temporary emission increases due to economic recovery, but the general decreasing trend of carbon emissions has been unchanged in a long run. In the case of Japan, during the financial crisis period (2005–2011), emissions increased due to production structure (136.2 Mt‐CO2) and consumption structure (61.8 Mt‐CO2). However, the intensity change and per capita consumption effect were the main driving forces that offset this increasing trend, which reduced by 209.7 Mt‐CO2 in total. After the 2011 earthquake, a significant gain in upgraded production structure led to a 78.2 Mt‐CO2 reduction until 2015, partially offset the 126.4 Mt‐CO2 increase caused by per capita consumption and export volume. In conclusion, although post‐event economic recovery has led to an increasing trend of carbon emissions, continuously optimized emission intensity and production structure are the major driving forces for repressing carbon emission rebound brought by unexpected events.
