Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm with a clinical behaviour that falls between a benign hemangioma and a high-grade angiosarcoma. Pleural EHE is exceptionally rare, and its prognosis is grim, with most patients experiencing survival of less than 1 year. Here, we present a case of pleural EHE in a 45-year-old woman with a month-long history of right-sided pleuritic chest pain. Chest computed tomography revealed consolidation, atelectasis of the right lung, right pleural thickening, and pleural effusion. She underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for decortication and was diagnosed with conclusively pleural EHE, showing a CAMTA1 rearrangement. Paclitaxel treatment, administered once weekly on days 1, 8 and 15 of a 28-day cycle, resulted in a stable disease after 12 cycles. Managing patients with pleural EHE is challenging because there are still no established standard treatments. Our case achieved 11-month progression-free survival following paclitaxel treatment. FNDC3B (fibronectin type III domain containing 3B) is highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other cancer types, and fusion genes involving FNDC3B have been identified in HCC and leukemia. Growing evidence suggests the significance of FNDC3B in tumorigenesis, particularly in cell migration and tumor metastasis. However, its regulatory mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, we employed bioinformatic, gene regulation, and protein‐DNA interaction screening to investigate the transcription factors (TFs) involved in regulating FNDC3B. Initially, 338 candidate TFs were selected based on previous chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)‐seq experiments available in public domain databases. Through TF knockdown screening and ChIP coupled with Droplet Digital PCR assays, we identified that E2F1 (E2F transcription factor 1) is crucial for the activation of FNDC3B. Overexpression or knockdown of E2F1 significantly impacts the expression of FNDC3B. In conclusion, our study elucidated the mechanistic link between FNDC3B and E2F1. Sap flow offers key insights about transpiration dynamics and forest‐climate interactions. Accurately simulating sap flow remains challenging due to measurement uncertainties and interactions between global and local environmental controls. Addressing these complexities, this study leveraged Long Short‐Term Memory networks (LSTMs) with SAPFLUXNET to predict hourly tree‐level sap flow across Europe. We built models with diverse training sets to assess performance under previously unseen conditions. The average Kling‐Gupta Efficiency was 0.77 for models trained on 50% of time series across all forest stands, and 0.52 for models trained on 50% of the forest stands. Continental models not only matched but surpassed the performance of specialized and baselines for all genera and forest types, showcasing the capacity of LSTMs to effectively generalize across tree genera, climates, and forest ecosystems given minimal inputs. This study underscores the potential of LSTMs in generalizing state‐dependent ecohydrological processes and bridging tree level measurements to continental scales. Plain Language Summary: Transpiration is the dominant flux of water from the land surface to the atmosphere, yet it remains challenging to measure and estimate especially given different climates and tree types. This study shows how large‐scale deep learning models can simulate sap flow, the movement of water within trees, with high precision, even in forests and conditions not previously studied. We show that these models excel when they learn from large and diverse data sets. The flexible design of our model training means that every new sap flow measurement can potentially be used to further optimize our networks. Our findings indicate that this approach of continuously updating the model with new information greatly improves its performance to simulate and predict tree‐level sap flow. This work thus highlights the potential of deep learning models to generalize sap flow, thereby enhancing ecohydrological investigations from the tree to the continental scale. Coloring and identification procedures for medical devices are important to reduce the risks of defective medical devices or incorrect operations and implantations. The study herein reports a novel platform of color pigment‐modified Parylene coatings to fulfill the needs of medical coatings, providing a surface modification route to alter the important property of color for an underlying material and/or device from its original color. Modification with a naphthalimide derivative is employed for the Parylene precursor. The synthesis of the final color Parylene coating is performed based on a vapor‐phase deposition polymerization process, and the coating is conformally coated on a variety of materials regardless of the shape or dimension. Furthermore, control of the color to create a series of color‐changing Parylene coatings is enabled by vapor deposition copolymerization with a second Parylene derivative source, and predictable color tuning from a primary to a secondary and/or tertiary color is achievable in the experiments and shows accordance with color theory. Aim: This study aimed to determine the psychosocial markers associated with pre‐hospital delay among patients with diabetic foot (DF). Design: This study has a cross‐sectional design. Methods: The participants completed a questionnaire including pre‐hospital time, demographic characteristics, Social Support Rate Scale, Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire and Type D Personality Scale‐14. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to explore independent associations with pre‐hospital delay. Results: Only 1.8% (3/164) of participants arrived at the hospital for medical care in 24 h of symptom onset. Patients with low utilization of social support (p = 0.029), low negative illness perceptions (p = 0.014) and high levels of negative affectivity (p = 0.009) are likely to arrive late at the clinic. Medical staff should pay attention to identifying diabetic patients' Type D personalities and take actions to improve their social support as well as illness perception, so as to reduce the occurrence of hospital delay. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care: Psychosocial factors play a vital role in the delay in seeking medical treatment for patients with DF. Medical staff need to improve patients' illness perception as well as self‐management ability through health education. Importantly, key family members provide an emotional and psychological support system for diabetic patients. Therefore, nurses need to work with family members together to give information and psychological support during family visits. Additionally, building and maintaining trust with patients is crucial to encouraging individuals to express their concerns and worries. In this case, nurses may identify patients' negative emotions and conduct timely intervention, so as to achieve favourable outcomes. Ge‐on‐insulators (GOIs) have been extensively explored as a potential platform for electronic‐photonic integrated circuits (EPICs), enabling various emerging applications. Although an efficient electrically‐injected light source is highly desirable, realizing such devices with optimal light emission efficiency remains challenging. Here, the first room‐temperature electrically‐injected Ge waveguide light emitters consisting of a lateral p–i–n homojunction on a GOI platform that can be monolithically integrated with EPICs are demonstrated. A high‐quality Ge active layer is transferred onto an insulator layer with the misfit dislocations in the Ge active layer eliminated to suppress unwanted nonradiative recombination. A 0.165% tensile strain is introduced to enhance the directness of the band structure and improve the light emission efficiency. The device comprises a waveguide structure with a significantly improved optical confinement as the optical resonator and a lateral p–i–n homojunction structure as the electrical injection structure. Under continuous‐wave electrical current injection at room temperature, enhanced electroluminescence is successfully observed at telecommunications wavelengths covering the C, L, and U bands, with improved efficiency. Theoretical analysis suggests that the quantum efficiency of Ge light emitters is dramatically affected by the defect density. Fibrillarin (FBL) is a highly conserved nucleolar methyltransferase responsible for methylation of ribosomal RNA and proteins. Here, we reveal a role for FBL in DNA damage response and its impact on cancer proliferation and sensitivity to DNA‐damaging agents. FBL is highly expressed in various cancers and correlates with poor survival outcomes in cancer patients. Knockdown of FBL sensitizes tumor cells and xenografts to DNA crosslinking agents, and leads to homologous recombination‐mediated DNA repair defects. We identify Y‐box‐binding protein‐1 (YBX1) as a key interacting partner of FBL, and FBL increases the nuclear accumulation of YBX1 in response to DNA damage. We show that FBL promotes the expression of BRCA1 by increasing the binding of YBX1 to the BRCA1 promoter. Our study sheds light on the regulatory mechanism of FBL in tumorigenesis and DNA damage response, providing potential therapeutic targets to overcome chemoresistance in cancer. Background: This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of afatinib in patients with sarcopenia, an important prognostic factor for treatment efficacy and toxicity in patients with cancer. Methods: The clinical features of patients with advanced NSCLC treated with frontline afatinib between 2014 and 2018 at a medical center in Taiwan were retrospectively reviewed. Sarcopenia was evaluated based on the total cross‐sectional area of skeletal muscles assessed by computed tomography (CT) imaging at the L3 level. Baseline characteristics, response rates, survival rates, and adverse events (AEs) were compared between sarcopenic and nonsarcopenic patients. Results: A total of 176 patients evaluated for sarcopenia by CT and treated with afatinib were enrolled in the current study. Sarcopenia was significantly associated with good performance status, low body mass index (BMI), low body surface area (BSA), and low total mass area (TMA). Sarcopenia did not influence the response rate (69.2% vs. 72.0%, p = 0.299), progression‐free survival (median 15.9 vs. 14.9 months, p = 0.791), or overall survival (median 26.5 vs. 27.2 months, p = 0.441). However, BSA ≤ 1.7 and the 40 mg afatinib dose were associated with dose reduction. TMA was the only independent factor for afatinib discontinuation due to AEs. Conclusion: Sarcopenia was not associated with treatment efficacy or toxicity among patients with NSCLC harboring common mutations treated with afatinib, indicating sarcopenic patients should not be excluded from afatinib treatment. Summary: Background: Finite nucleos(t)ide analogue (NUC) therapy has been proposed as an alternative treatment strategy for chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Aim: To quantify the incidence of severe hepatitis flares following NUC cessation in everyday clinical practice. Methods: This population‐based cohort study enrolled 10,192 patients (male 71.7%, median age 50.9 years, cirrhosis 10.7%) who had received first‐line NUCs for at least 1 year before discontinuing treatment. The primary outcome was severe flare with hepatic decompensation. We used competing risk analyses to assess event incidences and associated risk factors. Results: During a median follow‐up of 2.2 years, 132 patients developed severe flares with hepatic decompensation, yielding a 4‐year cumulative incidence of 1.8% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.5%–2.2%). Significant risk factors were cirrhosis (adjusted sub‐distributional hazard ratio [aSHR], 2.74; 95% CI, 1.82–4.12), manifestations of portal hypertension (aSHR, 2.46; 95% CI, 1.45–4.18), age (aSHR, 1.21 per 10 years; 95% CI, 1.03–1.42) and male sex (aSHR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.04–2.38). In patients without cirrhosis or portal hypertension (n = 8863), the 4‐year cumulative incidence of severe withdrawal flares stood at 1.3% (95% CI, 1.0%–1.7%). For those patients with available data confirming adherence to the standard stopping rules (n = 1274), the incidence was 1.1% (95% CI, 0.6%–2.0%). Conclusions: Severe flares with hepatic decompensation were observed in 1%–2% of patients with CHB after stopping NUC therapy in daily practice. Background and Purpose: Intravenous infusion of chemotherapy drugs can cause severe chemotherapy‐induced phlebitis (CIP) in patients. However, the underlying mechanism of CIP development remains unclear. Experimental Approach: RNA‐sequencing analysis was used to identify potential disease targets in CIP. Guanylate binding protein‐5 (GBP5) genetic deletion approaches also were used to investigate the role of GBP5 in NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) primed murine bone‐marrow‐derived macrophages (BMDMs) induced by vinorelbine (VIN) in vitro and in mouse models of VIN‐induced CIP in vivo. The anti‐CIP effect of aescin was evaluated, both in vivo and in vivo. Key Results: Here, we show that the expression of GBP5 was upregulated in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells from CIP patients. Genetic ablation of GBP5 in murine macrophages significantly alleviated VIN‐induced CIP in the experimental mouse model. Mechanistically, GBP5 contributed to the inflammatory responses through activating NLRP3 inflammasome and driving the production of the inflammatory cytokine IL‐1β. Moreover, aescin, a mixture of triterpene saponins extracted from horse chestnut seed, can alleviate CIP by inhibiting the GBP5/NLRP3 axis. Conclusion and Implications: These findings suggest that GBP5 is an important regulator of NLRP3 inflammasome in CIP mouse model. Background: Waardenburg syndrome (WS) is a hereditary, genetically heterogeneous disorder characterized by variable presentations of sensorineural hearing impairment and pigmentation anomalies. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features of WS in detail and determine the genetic causes of patients with clinically suspected WS. Methods: A total of 24 patients from 21 Han‐Taiwanese families were enrolled and underwent comprehensive physical and audiological examinations. We applied targeted next‐generation sequencing (NGS) to investigate the potential causative variants in these patients and further validated the candidate variants through Sanger sequencing. Results: We identified 19 causative variants of WS in our cohort. Of these variants, nine were novel and discovered in PAX3, SOX10, EDNRB, and MITF genes, including missense, nonsense, deletion, and splice site variants. Several patients presented with skeletal deformities, hypotonia, megacolon, and neurological disorders that were rarely seen in WS. Conclusion: This study revealed highly phenotypic variability in Taiwanese WS patients and demonstrated that targeted NGS allowed us to clarify the genetic diagnosis and extend the genetic variant spectrum of WS. The occurrence of plate tectonic processes on Earth during the Paleoproterozoic is supported by ca. 2.2–1.8 Ga subduction‐collision orogens associated with the assembly of the Columbia‐Nuna supercontinent. Subsequent supercontinent breakup is evidence by global ca. 1.8–1.6 Ga large igneous provinces. The North China craton is notable for containing Paleoproterozoic orogens along its margins, herein named the Northern Margin orogen, yet the nature and timing of orogenic and extensional processes of these orogens and their role in the supercontinent cycle remain unclear. In this contribution, we present new field observations, U‐Pb zircon and baddeleyite geochronology dates, and major/trace‐element and isotope geochemical analyses from the northern margin of the North China craton that detail its Paleoproterozoic tectonic and magmatic history. Specifically, we record the occurrence of ca. 2.2–2.0 Ga magmatic arc rocks, ca. 1.9–1.88 Ga tectonic mélange and mylonitic shear zones, and folded lower Paleoproterozoic strata. These rocks were affected by ca. 1.9–1.8 Ga granulite‐facies metamorphism and ca. 1.87–1.78 Ga post‐collisional, extension‐related magmatism along the cratonal northern margin. We interpret that the generation and emplacement of these rocks, and the coupled metamorphic and magmatic processes, were related to oceanic subduction and subsequent continent‐continent collision during the Paleoproterozoic. The occurrence of ca. 1.77–1.73 Ga mafic dykes and ca. 1.75 Ga mylonitic shear zones along the northern margin of the North China craton may have been related to a regional mantle plume event. Our results are consistent with modern style plate tectonics, including oceanic subduction‐related plate convergence and continent‐continent collision, operating in the Paleoproterozoic. Whether plate‐tectonics operate in early Earth's history, is one of the hotly debated questions in Earth Sciences. The North China craton of central Asia is a natural laboratory for investigating early Earth tectonic processes including subduction‐collision and large‐scale horizontal crustal motions. Paleoproterozoic subduction and continent‐continent collisional between the North China craton and outboard craton were associated with the assembly of the oldest‐known Columbia‐Nuna supercontinent. The configuration of cratons forming the supercontinent remains debated, which is partially due to an inadequate understanding of the Paleoproterozoic rocks that form the margins of the cratons and their tectonic histories. Our observations and analyses indicate the development of Paleoproterozoic Northern Margin orogen, the collisions are not just narrow belts in time and space, but rather broad, long‐lived orogenic cycles that exist well within the intraplate continental interior. The interface structure of the electrode is closely related to the electrochemical performance of lithium‐metal batteries (LMBs). In particular, a high‐quality solid electrode interface (SEI) and uniform, dense lithium plating/stripping processes play a key role in achieving stable LMBs. Herein, a LiF‐rich SEI and a uniform and dense plating/stripping process of the electrolyte by reducing the electrolyte concentration without changing the solvation structure, thereby avoiding the high cost and poor wetting properties of high‐concentration electrolytes are achieved. The ultra‐low concentration electrolyte with an unchanged Li+ solvation structure can restrain the inhomogeneous diffusion flux of Li+, thereby achieving more uniform lithium deposition and stripping processes while maintaining a LiF‐rich SEI. The LiIICu battery with this electrolyte exhibits enhanced cycling stability for 1000 cycles with a coulombic efficiency of 99% at 1 mA cm–2 and 1 mAh cm–2. For the LiIILiFePO4 pouch cell, the capacity retention values at 0.5 and 1 C are 98.6% and 91.4%, respectively. Bird species survival and breeding depend on necessary abiotic and biotic components of farmland habitat. A hybrid model based on expert knowledge using Analytic Network Process (ANP) integrated with empirical data is a capable approach for conservation scientists to determine the habitat suitability for bird species. Our study assessed the suitable distribution in the ranges of farmland habitats for bird richness throughout Taiwan, focusing on the regularly occurring birds on farmlands. We established a framework for analyzing potential habitat indicators developed by expert interviews. Then, ANP was employed to compute the weight‐based priorities. By combining habitat indicators, we assessed and presented the spatial distribution of habitat suitability. The results show that southern and eastern regions of Taiwan with high habitat suitability scores cover 60,576.51 ha (27.98%) and 40,531.42 ha (30.09%), respectively. The model has an overall accuracy of 70.40%, showing a capable and reliable approach to assessing habitat suitability for bird richness on farmland. Our study highlights a valuable tool for the policy‐makers through exploring suitable farmland habitat spots, where further conservative practices and prudent biodiversity management should be applied. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a major subtype of non–small‐cell lung cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. The histone H3K36 methyltransferase SETD2 has been reported to be frequently mutated or deleted in types of human cancer. However, the functions of SETD2 in tumor growth and metastasis in LUAD has not been well illustrated. Here, we found that SETD2 was significantly downregulated in human lung cancer and greatly impaired proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, we found that SETD2 overexpression significantly attenuated the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) of LUAD cells. RNA‐seq analysis identified differentially expressed transcripts that showed an elevated level of interleukin 8 (IL‐8) in STED2‐knockdown LUAD cells, which was further verified using qPCR, western blot, and promoter luciferase report assay. Mechanically, SETD2‐mediated H3K36me3 prevented assembly of Stat1 on the IL‐8 promoter and contributed to the inhibition of tumorigenesis in LUAD. Our findings highlight the suppressive role of SETD2/H3K36me3 in cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT during LUAD carcinogenesis, via regulation of the STAT1–IL‐8 signaling pathway. The assessment of the genetic structuring of biodiversity is crucial for management and conservation. This is particularly critical for widely distributed and highly mobile deep‐water teleosts, such as hoki (Macruronus novaezelandiae). This species is significant to Māori people and supports the largest commercial fishery in New Zealand, but uncertainty about its stock structure presents a challenge for management. Here, we apply a comprehensive genomic analysis to shed light on the demographic structure of this species by (1) assembling the genome, (2) generating a catalogue of genome‐wide SNPs to infer the stock structure and (3) identifying regions of the genome under selection. The final genome assembly used short and long reads and is near complete, representing 93.8% of BUSCO genes, and consisting of 566 contigs totalling 501 Mb. Whole‐genome re‐sequencing of 510 hoki sampled from 14 locations around New Zealand and Australia, at a read depth greater than 10×, produced 227,490 filtered SNPs. Analyses of these SNPs were able to resolve the stock structure of hoki into two genetically and geographically distinct clusters, one including the Australian and the other one all New Zealand locations, indicating genetic exchange between these regions is limited. Location differences within New Zealand samples were much more subtle (global FST = 0.0006), and while small and significant differences could be detected, they did not conclusively identify additional substructures. Ten putative adaptive SNPs were detected within the New Zealand samples, but these also did not geographically partition the dataset further. Contemporary and historical Ne estimation suggest the current New Zealand population of hoki is large yet declining. Overall, our study provides the first genomic resources for hoki and provides detailed insights into the fine‐scale population genetic structure to inform the management of this species. Renal ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury may induce kidney damage and dysfunction, in which oxidative stress and apoptosis play important roles. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) are reported to be closely related to renal I/R, but the specific molecular mechanism is still unclear. The purpose of this research was to explore the regulatory effect of lncRNA TUG1 on oxidative stress and apoptosis in renal I/R injury. This research revealed that in renal I/R injury and hypoxia/reperfusion (H/R) injury in vitro, the expression level of lncRNA TUG1 was upregulated, and oxidative stress levels and apoptosis levels were negatively correlated with the expression level of lncRNA TUG1. Using bioinformatics databases such as TargetScan and microRNA.org, microRNA-144-3p (miR-144-3p) was predicted to be involved in the association between lncRNA TUG1 and Nrf2. This study confirmed that the level of miR-144-3p was significantly reduced following renal I/R injury and H/R injury in vitro, and miR-144-3p was determined to target Nrf2 and inhibit its expression. In addition, lncRNA TUG1 can reduce the inhibitory effect of miR-144-3p on Nrf2 by sponging miR-144-3p. In summary, our research shows that lncRNA TUG1 regulates oxidative stress and apoptosis during renal I/R injury through the miR-144-3p/Nrf2 axis, which may be a new treatment target for renal I/R injury. The lowest resistivity (6.62 × 10−6 Ω‐cm) of the sintered Cu thick films occurs at 75 wt% of the SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additive. Also, we observe the extensive glass phase framing around the large Cu grains in the Cu thick films sintered with low SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additives (less than 50 wt%) narrows the cross‐section area of the electrical path. On the contrary, the round‐shaped glass phase solidified among the small Cu grains allows a larger cross‐section of the electrical path (a possible lower resistivity) for the Cu thick films sintered with higher SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additives (larger than 50 wt%). The above results imply that the resistivity of the sintered Cu thick film correlates well with the microstructure (Cu grain size and the glass/Cu composite structure) of the sintered Cu thick films. Twin grain boundaries can clearly be observed in the sintered Cu thick films, especially for the Cu thick film sintered with the higher SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additives. Owing to small Cu grains size and high density of Cu grain boundary, the probability of the grain boundaries with a high grain‐boundary energy in the Cu thick film sintered with high SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additive would be much larger, comparing to that in the Cu thick film sintered with low SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additive. Thus, more annealing twin boundaries formed in the Cu thick film sintered with high SiO2–ZnO–B2O3 additive. A microarray‐based high‐throughput screening of human circulating circular RNA (circRNA) was applied with five patients newly diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), five patients with HBV‐positive chronic hepatitis (CH) and five healthy controls (NC) enrolled. The plasma of HCC patients after hepatectomy was also collected. After multiple staged validation, we obtained five circRNAs as candidate. Based on the stratified risk score analysis, three increased circRNAs including circ_0009582, circ_0037120 and circ_0140117 were confirmed as candidate circulating fingerprints for distinguishing HCC from CH or NC group. With the combination of AFP, higher sensitivity and specificity were further guaranteed, suggesting that circ_0009582, circ_0037120 and circ_0140117 may serve as potential biomarkers for predicting the occurrence of HCC in patients with HBV infection. High energy density lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are promising next‐generation energy storage devices. However, the uncontrollable dendrite growth and huge volume change limit their practical applications. Here, a new Mg doped Li–LiB alloy with in situ formed lithiophilic 3D LiB skeleton (hereinafter called Li–B–Mg composite) is presented to suppress Li dendrite and mitigate volume change. The LiB skeleton exhibits superior lithiophilic and conductive characteristics, which contributes to the reduction of the local current density and homogenization of incoming Li+ flux. With the introduction of Mg, the composite achieves an ultralong lithium deposition/dissolution lifespan (500 h, at 0.5 mA cm−2) without short circuit in the symmetrical battery. In addition, the electrochemical performance is superior in full batteries assembled with LiCoO2 cathode and the manufactured composite. The currently proposed 3D Li–B–Mg composite anode may significantly propel the advancement of LMB technology from laboratory research to industrial commercialization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bidirectional isolated DC--AC inverters are widely used in industrial applications, such as grid-connected uninterruptible power supply, renewable power energy system, electric vehicles and so on. In order to improve the conversion efficiency, realising soft switching will become the essential technology in the research of DC--AC inverters. Based on the commonly used two-stage isolated inverter, this study proposed a novel DC--AC inverter that combines dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter, switched capacitor and full-bridge inverter. Utilising the strategy of phase-shift shoot-through control, DAB will generate a high-frequency pulse DC link cooperated with switched capacitor. As a result, during the shoot-through period, when the DC link is in zero-voltage-stage, the full-bridge inverter could realise zero-voltage switching (ZVS) through discrete pulse modulation. Principles, characteristics and implementations of the proposed inverter and its control strategy are analysed in detail. A further analysis on the operation modes and ZVS constraint of DAB's secondary bridge and switched capacitor is completed. A 250 VDC to 150 VAC (peak value) 1.13 kW simulation and experimental prototype is presented to validate the ZVS of full-bridge inverter and the analysis of DAB converter and switched capacitor. Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is an optimal recommended treatment for stage III non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Herein, we aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of oral vinorelbine plus cisplatin with concomitant radiotherapy for stage III NSCLC. Methods: This prospective, open‐label, single‐arm, observational cohort study was performed between January 2010 and September 2016. Patients were treated with two cycles of chemotherapy with 60 mg/m2 intravenous cisplatin on day 1 and 50 mg/m2 oral vinorelbine on days 1, 8, and 15; radiotherapy was administered concurrently from day 1 when chemotherapy was initiated. A total dose of 66–70 Gy radiotherapy was delivered in daily fractions of 2 Gy for 6.5–7 consecutive weeks. The tumor response was assessed after completing concomitant treatment. Results: A total of 58 patients were enrolled and analyzed; 31 patients had stage IIIA NSCLC and 27 had stage IIIB NSCLC. After induction CCRT, 31 patients achieved an objective response (complete response in one and partial response in 30; the response rate was 53.4%). The median progression‐free survival was 6.73 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 5.42–7.91), duration of response was 12.30 months (95% CI, 5.59–19.01), and overall survival was 24.83 months (95% CI, 19.26–30.21). No treatment‐related mortality was observed, and neutropenia was the most common grade 3 and 4 treatment‐related toxicity (11 patients; 18.9%). We present new zircon U–Pb ages, geochemical data on the Late Palaeozoic volcanic rocks of the Suji and Dahongshan formations, which are exposed in the Plate Marginal Orogenic Belt along the northern margin of the North China Craton. Our aim is to constrain the petrogenesis, tectonic setting of volcanic rocks, and to address the late stage tectonic evolution of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. Lithologically, the Suji and Dahongshan formations present the main rock association with basaltic andesite, andesite, dacite, rhyolite, and tuff. New zircon U–Pb dating results suggest that the volcanic rocks formed during 280–261 Ma and 277–267 Ma, respectively. Geochemically, these volcanic rocks belong to the low‐K tholeiitic to high‐K calc‐alkaline series and are characterized by highly enriched light rare earth elements, K, Rb, Ba; depleted Nb, Ta, Ti; and highly negative Eu anomalies, very similar to that of the continental arc magmatism. These data, together with geological field investigations, suggest that the Early Permian volcanic rocks from Suji and Dahongshan formations were related to southward flat subduction of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean beneath the northern margin of the North China Craton. Therefore, these volcanic rocks were interpreted as Andean‐style continental margin arc magmatism. Summary: One up‐regulated host gene identified previously was found involved in the infection process of Bamboo mosaic virus (BaMV), a single‐stranded positive‐sense RNA virus. The full length cDNA of this gene was cloned by 5′ and 3′‐rapid amplification of cDNA ends and found to encode a polypeptide containing a conserved really interesting new gene (RING) domain and a transmembrane domain. The gene might function as an ubiquitin E3 ligase. We designated this protein in Nicotiana benthamiana as ubiquitin E3 ligase containing RING domain 1 (NbUbE3R1). Further characterization by using Tobacco rattle virus‐based virus‐induced gene silencing (loss‐of‐function) revealed that increased BaMV accumulation was in both knockdown plants and protoplasts. The gene might have a defensive role in the replication step of BaMV infection. To further inspect the functional role of NbUbE3R1 in BaMV accumulation, NbUbE3R1 was expressed in N. benthamiana plants. The wild‐type NbUbE3R1‐orange fluorescent protein (NbUbE3R1‐OFP), NbUbE3R1/△TM‐OFP (removal of the transmembrane domain) and NbUbE3R1/mRING‐OFP (mutation at the RING domain, the E2 interaction site) were transiently expressed in plants. NbUbE3R1 and its derivatives all functioned in restricting the accumulation of BaMV. The common feature of these constructs was the intact substrate‐interacting domain. Yeast two‐hybrid and co‐immunoprecipitation experiments used to determine the possible viral‐encoded substrate of NbUbE3R1 revealed the replicase of BaMV as the possible substrate. The implementation of a 500 kV unified power flow controller (UPFC) project in Suzhou southern power grid is reported in this study. The UPFC project has been put into operation at the end of 2017, and has become the largest capacity and highest voltage-level UPFC in the world. The overview of the Suzhou southern power grid is first introduced. The challenges of the grid, such as the limited transmission capability and the insufficient reactive power supply, are also demonstrated. Great technical and economic difficulties have to be overcome for the implementation of traditional solutions, so an attempt of the UPFC scheme is put forward. The UPFC scheme is introduced in detail, including the topology structure, the main equipment selection, the expected effect, the implementation difficulties and the investment. It is shown that the 500 kV UPFC project is more economical and feasible than the traditional solutions. The operation problems of the Suzhou southern power grid will be alleviated effectively by the UPFC project. The Zhunmubutai ophiolitic mélange is a newly discovered ophiolite suite located between the Solonker‐Linxi ophiolite belt and the Erenhot‐Hegenshan‐Xi‐Ujimqin ophiolite belt, the central part of Xilinhot Microcontinent (XLMC). It was composed of plagiogranite, pyroxene peridotite, pillow basaltic andesite, and associated mafic rocks and surrounded by a quartz diorite pluton and mélange zone containing sandstones and slates of Early Permian Shoushangou Formation. In this study, zircon grains from a quartz diorite and a plagiogranite yield 206Pb/238U ages of 313 ± 1 Ma (MSWD = 1.60, n = 20) and 328 ± 1 Ma (MSWD = 0.9, n = 93), respectively. Sixty‐four zircons from the slate yielded ages ranging from 307 to 2,313 Ma, and with a peak at 340 Ma. These data indicate the Zhunmubutai ophiolitic mélange formed 300 to 340 Ma. The Zhunmubutai plagiogranites that have low contents of K2O (0.07–0.33 wt.%), K2O/Na2O (0.02–0.09), and Rb/Sr (0.01–0.05) show an oceanic plagiogranites affinity. They are also characterized by low contents of TiO2, Nd, Ta, and significant LREE enrichment. Furthermore, the εHf (328 Ma) values range from 14.23 to 18.87. These features suggest that the plagiogranite was originated by the anatexis of amphibolites and with crustal contamination. Combined with previous studies, suggest that the Zhunmubutai ophiolitic mélange may have formed in an extensional environment during the early stages of opening of an ocean basin. The sedimentary record in the Late Palaeoproterozoic‐Neoproterozoic Bayan Obo rift belt can provide critical insight into tectonic evolution of Columbia and the North China Craton. In this study, we present new U–Pb geochronology, Hf isotopic analyses from the Bayan Obo Group, the Mesoproterozoic kimberlite, and gabbro to constrain the depositional age and potential provenance information of the Bayan Obo Group. We show that the Dulahala‐Jianshan, Bilute, and Baiyinbaolage formations were deposited at ca. 1.81–1.7 Ga, ca. 1.58–1.35 Ga, and ca. 1.25–1.0 Ga, respectively. Our data suggest the following potential provenance for sediments within the Bayan Obo Group: (a) The Khondalite Belt, Yinshan Block, and crystalline basement complex of the North China Craton to the south were the most potential provenance of the Dulahala and Jianshan formations during the initial deposition of Bayan Obo Group; (b) The Yinshan Block, and crystalline basement complex of the North China Craton, and local intermediate‐acid igneous rocks were the most potential provenance of the Bilute Formation; and (c) the local gabbro and volcanic rocks were the most potential provenance of the Baiyinbaolage Formation. Based on regional geologic constraints and the sedimentary history, we propose that the Northern Marginal Rift System probably represented several distinct rifting events. Furthermore, the Bayan Obo and Huade rift belts were active more recently than 1.0 Ga, which suggests that these rift systems were not only related to the rifting of the Columbia supercontinent. We propose that the Bayan Obo rift belt also records the rifting related to the breakup of Rodinia with the deposition of Qingbaikou System (Tonian) strata. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Zircon U–Pb dating and whole‐rock geochemical analysis have been studied on the Late Jurassic volcanic rocks in the Hailisen area, Northeastern China, with the aim of constraining the tectonic evolution of the central‐southern Great Xing'an Range during the Late Jurassic. The volcanic rocks mainly consist of andesite from the Tamulangou Formation, and rhyolite and minor dacite from the Manketouebo Formation. The results of inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry Zircon U–Pb dating for two andesites and one dacite indicate that they formed in the Late Jurassic (161–150 Ma). The mafic rocks are characteristic of low TiO2 (1.01–1.04 wt.%) and P2O5 (0.23–0.31 wt.%) contents, and high Al2O3 (17.19–20.18 wt.%) and CaO (6.69–7.45 wt.%) contents, and belong to the low‐K tholeiitic series. These mafic rocks are also characterized by moderately enriched light rare earth element (LREE) patterns and high abundances of Th, U, Zr, and Hf but negative Nb, Ta, and Ti anomalies. The felsic rocks are enriched in alkalis, Th, U, and LREEs; depleted in Ba, Sr, Nb, Ta, and Ti; and exhibit moderately LREE‐enriched patterns. These features indicate that the mafic volcanic rocks were likely formed by the partial melting of a lithospheric mantle that was metasomatized by subduction‐derived components, but the felsic rocks could derived by partial melting of a crustal source. The Tamulangou and Manketouebo formations have compositions of typical bimodal volcanism, an extensional environment, similar to a post‐orogenic setting, which might be related to the closure of Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean. An efficient polymer light-emitting diode (PLED) is demonstrated using the solution-processed octadecanamide (ODAD) as an electron injection layer (EIL). The ability for the EIL of ODAD to lower the electron injection barrier is systematically investigated by the analysis of structural analogs, photovoltaic measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). Devices with ODAD/Al and 2-phenylacetamide/Al cathodes show the higher luminance efficiency (8.5 and 11.0 cd A−1) than that with the Ca/Al cathode (5.9 cd A−1). On the contrary, the device with the octadecylamine/Al cathode shows the performance similar to that of the device with the Al cathode. It correlates the amide functional group with the enhanced electron injection. The corresponding photovoltaic measurements suggest the amide functional group be essential to decrease the work function (WF) of Al. XPS and UPS verify the mechanism for lowering electron injection barrier: the amide functional group forms the C-O-Al complex at the ODAD/Al interface to create the interfacial dipole for decreasing the WF of Al. This is the first demonstration that efficient PLEDs are achieved using amide-functionalized small molecules as EILs. Porphyritic olivine kimberlitic breccia, discovered in the Dörbed Banner of Inner Mongolia, Western China, is referred to as Longtou Shan Kimberlite in our study. This kimberlite occurs as a pipe in the Halahuogete Formation of Bayan Obo Group. Zircon U–Pb ages of Longtou Shan Kimberlite reveals a Mesoproterozoic age of ~1,552 Ma, constraining the deposition age of Halahuogete Formation to the Mesoproterozoic. Compared with Mesoproterozoic kimberlite of the ancient landmass, it can be inferred that the North China Craton is a member of the Ur ancient continent of the Columbia supercontinent. Furthermore, according to the tectonic background of the Bayan Obo Group, we raise this possibility that “Bayan Obo Aulacogen” should be renamed the “Bayan Obo Continental Rift.” [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We conducted zircon U–Pb dating and geochemical analyses for the Qianjinchang (QJC) pluton in the Xi Ujimqi, Northeast China, with an aim to determine their ages, petrogenesis, and sources. The QJC pluton consists of coarse/medium‐grained biotite monzogranite in the core and fine‐grained biotite granodiorite in the rim; those rocks intrude into quartz diorite but are intruded by minor intrusive phases, including small biotite syenogranite, diorite bodies, late diorite, granodiorite, granite, and pegmatite dykes. Our new laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry zircon U–Pb data indicate that the QJC composite pluton composed of 2 phases of magmatic activities, with the ages of 301~313 Ma for the quartz diorite, 283 ± 1 Ma for the biotite granodiorite, 280 ± 1 Ma for the biotite syenogranite, and 280 ± 2 Ma for the diorite dyke. Hf isotopic analyses for the quartz diorite sample show εHf (t) = 3.75 to 11.72, with 2‐stage Hf model age (TDM2) ranging 568–1,078 Ma. The biotite syenogranite sample also shows a depleted εHf (t) = 4.47 to 8.71, with TDM2 ranging 745–1,015 Ma, suggesting the major involvement of juvenile crustal components. The various εHf values of the QJC pluton indicate a hybrid magma source of juvenile material with old crustal component, and the TDM2 values increase from the Carboniferous to Permian, which suggests an increasing proportion of old continental material during this period. Petrological and geochemical characteristics of the biotite granodiorite and biotite monzogranite samples suggest that they are S‐type granites and derived from partial melting of the clay‐poor, plagioclase‐rich psammitic source, produced at low‐medium pressure. The biotite syenogranite sample belongs to alkaline and shoshonitic series and probably formed by a hybridization process between basaltic magma and old continental components. Combined with previous studies on the contemporaneous magma‐tectonic activities in the Xilinhot microcontinent, we suggest that the QJC pluton formed in a postcollisional setting. The total solar eclipse of 21 August 2017 was simulated with the Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model (GITM), and the results were compared with the total electron content (TEC) measurements provided by the Global Navigation Satellite System, as well as F2 layer peak electron density (NmF2) derived from six ionosondes. TEC decreased over North America by ~54.3% in the model and ~57.6% in measurements, and NmF2 decreased by ~20–50% in the model and ~40–60% in the measurements. GITM predicted a posteclipse enhancement of ~10% in TEC and NmF2, consistent with observations which suggested an increase of ~10–25% in TEC and ~10–40% in NmF2. GITM showed that the divergence of horizontal winds drove the increase in Oxygen after the eclipse allowing an increase in the ionization rate. Abstract: Flexible electrodes have recently elicited attention due to their potential to be woven into textiles as flexible power supplies for wearable electronic devices. However, contemporary flexible electrodes generally suffer from the limited reaction kinetics and inferior stability. Here, a flexible WS2@CNFs membrane electrode is facilely fabricated via hydrothermal method and subsequent electrospinning to embed WS2 nanosheets into interconnected framework of carbon nanofibers (CNFs). Benefitting from 3D porous architecture and good conductivity of CNFs, WS2@CNFs composites exhibit outstanding cycling stability and rate capability as self‐supported binder‐free anode for lithium‐ion batteries. Especially, WS2@CNFs with 60.3 wt% of WS2 displays a discharge specific capacity as high as 545 mA h g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 after 800 cycles. Even at 2 A g−1, it maintains 62.4% of specific capacity at 0.1 A g−1, and stably cycles back at 0.1 A g−1. Kinetic analysis confirms that the capacitive mechanism is dominant in the Li‐ion storage process, which is derived mainly from the structure evolution from WS2 nanosheets to WS2/W nanoparticles during extended cycling. The reduced nanoparticles also enhance electrochemical activity, conductivity, and reversibility of the conversion reaction, resulting in the increasing capacity with cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We undertook zircon U-Pb dating and geochemical analyses of the Weitingchagan (WT) pluton in the Dong Ujimqi area, Northeast China, with an aim of determining their ages, petrogenesis and sources, which are important for understanding the Late Palaeozoic tectonic evolution of the Xing-Meng Orogenic Belt. The WT pluton consists of coarse- to medium-grained porphyritic granites in the core and medium- to fine-grained monzogranites in the rim, contains abundant microgranular enclaves and is intruded by small amounts of muscovite monzogranites. The results of LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicate that the WT composite pluton formed during the Late Carboniferous-Early Permian with the ages ranging from 289 Ma to 312 Ma. Petrological and geochemical characteristics of the WT pluton were derived from the partial melting of crustal materials, and the AFC process played an important role in the magmatic evolution. The porphyritic granites are I-type granite, and the monzogranites and muscovite monzogranites are highly fractionated I-type granite. Combined with previous studies on the contemporaneous magma-tectonic activities in the Uliastai Continental Margin, the study suggests that the WT pluton formed in an extensional environment, which may relate to the closure of the Palaeo-Asian Ocean. Layered LiNi0.6Mn0.2Co0.2O2 (LNMC) cathode has attracted enormous attentions for Li-ion batteries thanks to its appealing combination of large capacity and desirable thermal stability. But it still suffers from repugnant phase distortion and serious capacity degradation upon cycling particularly with high cut-off voltages and elevated working temperatures. Herein, an efficient sur-/interface engineering strategy to finely fabricate hierarchical LNMC@LiCoPO4@graphene (LNMC@LCP@G) architectures is purposefully devised. Physicochemical characterizations comprehensively reveal that a uniform LCP nanoshell adheres tightly to the surface of bulk LNMC, and G sheets intersperse among LNMC@LCP microparticles as electron 'bridge.' By virtue of synergetic sur-/interface contributions from the multicomponents, the LNMC@LCP@G cathodes exhibit encouraging Li-storage behaviors including larger capacities, higher capacity retention, and better cycling performance with high upper cut-off voltage of 4.6 V both at 25 and 55 °C, and enhanced thermal stability in the delithiated state. More significantly, it is strongly believed that the electrode design concept here holds huge promise for smart synthesis of other advanced Ni-based cathodes for next-generation rechargeable lithium power batteries. Subduction of Bangong Suture Ocean and collision between the Lhasa and Qiangtang blocks were keys to better understand the development of central Tibet. However, the initiation and closure timing, and nature and structure of the Bangong suture are still poorly constrained. Mesozoic intrusions are widely distributed in central Tibet. Petrology, geochronology and geochemistry of the Renacuo pluton and their microgranular enclaves in the Gaize area to the north of the Bangong-Nujiang suture zone, south of the Longmu Co-Shuanghu suture zone, are used to constrain the tectonic history of the Bangong suture. Results of our SHRIMP U-Pb dating of the zircons are as follows: quartz diorite is 139 ± 4 Ma, MSWD = 1.6; the microgranular enclave is 147.3 ± 3.3 Ma, MSWD = 0.45. The evolutionary trend of the major elements, trace elements and rare earth elements of the microgranular enclaves and the host rocks are almost similar, suggesting that the enclaves and the host rocks may have had the same source. They most likely originated from magma mixing between mantle-derived and crust-derived melts. On the basis of our mapping and geochronologic studies, we suggest that the formation of the Renacuo pluton is consistent with previously suggested northward subduction of the Bangong Suture Ocean, which occurred in the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous. The Taolaituo porphyry-type molybdenum deposit is located in the eastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China. The mineralization occurs mainly as veins, lenses and layers within the host porphyry. To better understand the link between the mineralization and the host igneous rocks, we studied samples from the underground workings and report new SHRIMP II zircon U-Pb and Re-Os molybdenite ages, and geochemical data from both the molybdenites and the porphyry granites. Five molybdenite samples yield a Re-Os isochron weighted mean age of 133.0 ± 0.82 Ma, whereas the porphyry granitoids samples yield crystallization ages of 133 ± 1 Ma and 130.4 ± 1.3 Ma. The U-Pb and Re-Os ages are similar, suggesting that the mineralization is genetically related to the Early Cretaceous porphyry emplacement. Re contents of the molybdenites range from 21.74 to 42.45 ppm, with an average of 32.69 ppm, whereas δ34S values vary between 3.7‰ and 4.2‰, which is typical of mantle sulphur. The 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/ 204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb vary in the ranges of 18.276-18.385, 15.566-15.580 and 38.321-38.382, respectively. The Taolaituo Early Cretaceous granitoids are A-type granites. These observations indicate that the molybdenites and the porphyry granites were derived from a mixed source involving young accretionary materials and enriched subcontinental lithospheric mantle. A synthesis of geochronological and geological data reveals that porphyry emplacement and Mo mineralization in the Taolaituo deposit occurred contemporaneously with the Early Cretaceous tectonothermal events associated with lithospheric thinning, which was caused by delamination and subsequent upwelling of the asthenosphere associated with intra-continental extension in northeast China. Two composites of Ba0.5Sr0.5Fe12O19 grains dispersed in a 3 mol% yttria-doped zirconia (3Y- TZP) matrix are prepared by two methods. The mechanical and electromagnetic properties of the both composites are investigated. The maximum values of the bending strength and the fracture toughness are 786 MPa and 8.6 MPa m1/2, respectively. The maximum value of the magnetization is 17.2 emu/g. In addition, the distribution of the Ba0.5Sr0.5Fe12O19 phase is described using the box dimension of the fractal theory. The impedance spectra of the both composites are fitted using the equivalent circuit model with a constant phase element ( CPE). The obtained p value of the CPE can indirectly reflect the morphology of the Ba0.5Sr0.5Fe12O19 phase in both composites according to the universal relaxation law. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A facile and low-cost chemical method is still in need to make Fe3O4 submicrospheres with the size below 200 nm. In this study, Fe3O4 submicrospheres of ca. 173 nm with soft-magnetic properties were made by conversion of goethite under solvothermal conditions, and exhibited the good catalytic activity and reusability for selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde with H2O2 in water (yield: 43.5-46.2% after being recycled seven times). Trait markers of schizophrenia aid the dissection of the heterogeneous phenotypes into distinct subtypes and facilitate the genetic underpinning of the disease. The microstructural integrity of the white matter tracts could serve as a trait marker of schizophrenia, and tractography-based analysis (TBA) is the current method of choice. Manual tractography is time-consuming and limits the analysis to preselected fiber tracts. Here, we sought to identify a trait marker of schizophrenia from among 74 fiber tracts across the whole brain using a novel automatic TBA method. Thirty-one patients with schizophrenia, 31 unaffected siblings and 31 healthy controls were recruited to undergo diffusion spectrum magnetic resonance imaging at 3T. Generalized fractional anisotropy (GFA), an index reflecting tract integrity, was computed for each tract and compared among the three groups. Ten tracts were found to exhibit significant differences between the groups with a linear, stepwise order from controls to siblings to patients; they included the right arcuate fasciculus, bilateral fornices, bilateral auditory tracts, left optic radiation, the genu of the corpus callosum, and the corpus callosum to the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortices, bilateral temporal poles, and bilateral hippocampi. Posthoc between-group analyses revealed that the GFA of the right arcuate fasciculus was significantly decreased in both the patients and unaffected siblings compared to the controls. Furthermore, the GFA of the right arcuate fasciculus exhibited a trend toward positive symptom scores. In conclusion, the right arcuate fasciculus may be a candidate trait marker and deserves further study to verify any genetic association. Aims Following a traumatic brain injury ( TBI), 5-50% of patients will develop posttraumatic epilepsy ( PTE) with children being particularly susceptible. Currently, PTE cannot be prevented and there is limited understanding of the underlying epileptogenic mechanisms. We hypothesize that early after TBI the brain undergoes distinct cellular and synaptic reorganization that facilitates cortical excitability and promotes the development of epilepsy. Methods To examine the effect of pediatric TBI on cortical excitability, we performed controlled cortical impact ( CCI) on juvenile rats (postnatal day 17). Following CCI, animals were monitored for the presence of epileptiform activity by continuous in vivo electroencephalography ( EEG) and/or sacrificed for in vitro whole-cell patch-clamp recordings. Results Following a short latent period, all animals subjected to CCI developed spontaneous recurrent epileptiform activity within 14 days. Whole-cell patch-clamp recordings of layer V pyramidal neurons showed no changes in intrinsic excitability or spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents ( sEPSCs) properties. However, the decay of spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents ( sIPSCs) was significantly increased. In addition, CCI induced over a 300% increase in excitatory and inhibitory synaptic bursting. Synaptic bursting was prevented by blockade of Na+-dependent action potentials or select antagonism of glutamate or GABA-A receptors, respectively. Conclusion Our results demonstrate that CCI in juvenile rats rapidly induces epileptiform activity and enhanced cortical synaptic bursting. Aims: Mounting evidence showed that GABAergic interneurons play an important role in the generation of seizures by regulating excitatory/inhibitory balance in the hippocampus; however, there is a continuous debate regarding the alteration in the number of hippocampal GABAergic interneurons during epileptogenesis. Here, we investigated the degeneration and regeneration of GABAergic interneurons in the dentate gyrus during epileptogenesis using glutamic acid decarboxylase-green fluorescence protein (GAD67-GFP) knock-in mice. Methods and Results: Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced chronic kindling model and lithium- pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus (SE) model were used in this study. We found a progressive loss of GABAergic interneurons in the dentate gyrus during post-SE epileptogenesis rather than PTZ kindling. Both types of epileptogenic insults significantly promoted the proliferation of neural progenitor cells in the dentate gyrus; however, compared to 80% neuronal differentiation ratio in the control group, there was a remarkable decrease in PTZ kindling and pilocarpine models, that is 58% and 29%, respectively. Double/triple immun of luorescence labeling revealed no newborn neurons colabeled with GFP in both intact and epileptic dentate gyrus. In addition, valproate (a first-line antiepileptic drug) treatment prevented the loss of GABAergic interneurons but still failed to induce the regeneration of GAD67-positive interneurons in the dentate gyrus during post-SE epileptogenesis. Conclusions: These results indicate that degeneration of GABAergic interneurons may depend on the type of epileptogenic insult and that no newborn GABAergic interneurons occur in the adult dentate gyrus during epileptogenesis. Wilms’ tumor 1 (WT1) is an oncogene that has been correlated with tumor progression, bad prognosis and chemo‐resistance in Non‐Small‐Cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we found that WT1 expression is significantly higher in NSCLCs than in benign controls, and that Cisplatin‐resistant patients display a notable increase in WT1 expression following relapse. In vitro, WT1 levels were associated with the IC50 of NSCLC cells and increased along with treatment time and dose of Cisplatin. Furthermore, WT1 enhanced Major Vault Protein (MVP) transcription via binding to its promoter. Therefore, WT1 may be a potential therapeutic target for solving resistance.WT1 increased when relapse occurred in NSCLC. WT1 increased with time and dose of Cisplatin exposure. Cellular senescence is a stable state of proliferative arrest that provides a barrier against malignant transformation and contributes to the antitumor activity of certain chemotherapies. Unexpectedly, we found that the expression of proto-oncogene PIM-1, which can promote tumorigenesis, is induced at transcriptional level during senescence. Inhibition of PIM-1 alleviated both replicative and oncogene-induced senescence. Conversely, ectopic expression of PIM-1 resulted in premature senescence. We also revealed that PIM-1 interacts with and phosphorylates heterochromatin protein 1γ ( HP1γ) on Ser93. This PIM-1-mediated HP1γ phosphorylation enhanced HP1γ's capacity to bind to H3K9me3, resulting in heterochromatin formation and suppression of proliferative genes, such as CCNA2 and PCNA. Analysis of the mechanism underlying the up-regulation of PIM-1 expression during senescence demonstrated that IL-6, a critical regulator of cellular senescence, is responsible for PIM-1 induction. Our study demonstrated that PIM-1 is a key component of the senescence machinery that contributes to heterochromatin formation. More importantly, we demonstrated that PIM-1 is also a direct target of IL-6/ STAT3 signaling and mediates cytokine-induced cellular senescence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
