Abstract: The potential interaction of daidzin, an ingredient of soy isoflavones, with human telomeric antiparallel G-quadruplex dAG3(T2AG3)3 was studied using ESI-MS, PAGE, CD and molecular simulation. Experimental studies indicated that daidzin molecules interacted with dAG3(T2AG3)3 and formed DNA–daidzin complex with the stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 and 1:2. The transition temperature of the G-quadruplex increased at higher ratio of daidzin to DNA. Under molecular crowding conditions the interactions between daidzin and the G-quadruplex become much stronger. Combining computational simulation and experimental results, it is demonstrated that the dAG3(T2AG3)3/daidzin complex with a stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 is stabilized through the π–π conjugacy interactions and hydrogen bondings between daidzin and the bases of G-quadruplex. This work provides guidance not only on exploring the molecular anti-cancer mechanism of dietary isoflavones, but also searching small natural products as promising anticancer candidates that can inhibit telomerase activity. As the first comprehensive study on privatization in Malaysia, this paper compares financial and operating performance of a sample of 24 firms before and after privatization. The 24 firms were privatized via public listing on the Malaysian exchange. Measures that improve following privatization include profitability, output level, and dividend payout; leverage declines. We also observe increased linkages between ownership and corporate governance with such performance changes. By and large, our results are similar to the results of the directly comparable multi-country studies of Megginson, Nash, and van Randenborgh (1994), Boubakri and Cosset (1998), and D'Souza and Megginson (1999). The effect of government ownership on firm performance remains a controversial issue, especially in a transitional economy like China. Government ownership is typically viewed as adversely affecting firm performance. This study of that of Mainland China’s privatization experience indicates the opposite. No matter whether it is in the form of state ownership or legal person ownership, government ownership has a positive impact on partially privatized state-owned enterprises. However, this relationship is nonlinear and shows an inverted U-shape. Given the situation of highly indebted, non-performing state-owned enterprises, we argue that too much government control is indeed bad for enterprises. But too little government ownership may not be good either. White organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs) are one of the most cogent candidates for environment friendly and healthy solid‐state lighting due to many unique merits. Here, a strategic design of exciplex hosts is applied to simultaneously realize the superior color stability, high color rendering index (CRI), high efficiency, and low efficiency roll‐off properties of WOLEDs. The resulting WOLEDs emit the forward‐viewing maximum power efficiency (PE) of 59.9 lm W−1, and the PE still remains 45.3 and 31.9 lm W−1 at 1000 and 5000 cd m−2, respectively, exhibiting extremely low efficiency roll‐off. More remarkably, the devices also show high CRI over 80 and extremely stable spectral emission in the luminance ranges from 1000 to 15 000 cd m−2. It is well known that one of the major challenges facing white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs) has been to achieve high efficiency, low efficiency roll‐off, and high color rendering index (CRI) simultaneously. A simple charge‐ and exciton‐confining emitting layer structure formed by employing a blue emitting p/n heterojunction, and combined with red, yellow, and green phosphorescent ultrathin layers, is presented, thus realizing the stable utilization of 100% excitons. The resulting hybrid WOLEDs exhibit the maximum forward‐viewing external quantum efficiency and power efficiency of 23.4% and 50.4 lm W−1, and keep them at 20.3% and 31.2 lm W−1 at 1000 cd m−2, showing high efficiency and low efficiency roll‐off. Furthermore, the device also shows extremely stable electroluminescent spectra in the whole luminance range with a high CRI of 93 and the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.49, 0.43) at 1000 cd m−2, which is perfect warm white for indoor lighting. The achievement of the excellent comprehensive performances is the best result reported to date among the conventional blue fluorescence‐based hybrid WOLEDs possessing such high CRI, which may be a new starting point for further research on high‐performance hybrid WOLEDs. All‐solid‐state lithium‐ion batteries (ASSLIBs) have gained substantial attention worldwide due to their intrinsic safety and high energy density. However, the large interfacial resistance of ASSLIBs, which originates from the interfacial reactions and inferior electrode–electrolyte contact between electrodes and solid electrolytes, dramatically constrains their electrochemical performance. Here a dual shell interfacial nanostructure is rationally designed to enable high‐performance ASSLIBs, in which the inner shell LiNbO3 suppresses the interfacial reactions while the outer shell Li10GeP2S12 enables intimate electrode–electrolyte contact. As a result, the dual shell structured Li10GeP2S12@LiNbO3@LiCoO2 exhibits a high initial specific capacity of 125.8 mAh g−1 (1.35 mAh cm−2) with an initial Coulombic efficiency of 90.4% at 0.1 C and 87.7 mAh g−1 at 1 C. More importantly, in situ X‐ray absorption near edge spectroscopy was performed for the first time to reveal the interfacial reactions between Li10GeP2S12 and LiCoO2. Organic fluorescent dyes have attracted wide interest because of their high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies. However, there are several application limitations arising from their hydrophobicity, poor dispersity and large particle sizes. These problems can be improved by preparing nanoparticles with a small size. Herein, we present a continuous approach to efficiently prepare an aqueous nanodispersion of water‐insoluble organic fluorescent dye Nile red (NR) with monodispersed and uniform nanoparticles (35 nm) by high‐gravity antisolvent precipitation in a rotating packed bed (RPB). In contrast, NR nanodispersions prepared using a traditional batch stirred tank (ST) had a broad size distribution (20–150 nm). Due to its small size effect and good dispersity in water, the RPB nanodispersion displayed significantly increased saturation solubility and much stronger fluorescent intensity compared to raw NR, and was obviously superior to the ST counterpart. Objectives: Abnormal activation of NF‐κB signalling is a major mechanism of apoptosis resistance in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Therefore, better understanding of the regulation of NF‐κB signalling has a significant impact for GBM therapy. Here, we uncovered a critical role of the small GTPase RND3 in regulating the p65 subunit of NF‐κB and NF‐κB signalling in GBM. Materials and methods: Human GBM samples, GBM cells and a human orthotopic GBM‐xenografted animal model were used. The mechanisms of RND3 in regulation of NF‐κB signalling and GBM cell apoptosis were examined by luciferase assay, quantitative PCR, immunostaining, immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, coimmunoprecipitation, TUNEL staining, JC‐1 analysis and flow cytometry. Results: Overexpression of RND3 led to reduced p65 activity in GBM‐cultured cells and a GBM animal model, indicating that the NF‐κB pathway is negatively regulated by RND3 in GBM. Mechanistically, we found that RND3 bound p65 and promoted p65 ubiquitination, leading to decreased p65 protein levels. Furthermore, RND3 enhanced cleaved caspase 3 levels and promoted apoptosis in GBM cells, and RND3 expression was positively correlated with cleaved caspase 3 and IL‐8 in human GBM samples. The effect of RND3 on promoting apoptosis disappeared when p65 ubiquitination was blocked by protease inhibitor carfilzomib or upon co‐expression of ectopic p65. Conclusions: RND3 binds p65 protein and promotes its ubiquitination, resulting in reduced p65 protein expression and inhibition of NF‐κB signalling to induce GBM cell apoptosis. Triplet‐triplet fusion (TTF) can effectively transfer triplet excitons to singlet energy level and exhibit good stability, making it widely used in blue fluorescence organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) for practical application. However, the efficiency of the resulting blue fluorescence OLEDs is still fundamentally limited. Herein, this work introduces a hot exciton efficiency enhancement layer (EEL) between TTF emissive layer and electron‐transporting layer for the first time. It can be found that the triplet excitons are greatly utilized by the efficient hot exciton EEL. As a result, a high efficiency blue fluorescence OLED is successfully developed, exhibiting a maximum external quantum efficiency of 15.2% at the luminance of 4068.0 cd m−2, achieving a breakthrough in the efficiency of blue TTF‐OLEDs. Transient electroluminescence (TrEL) measurements and detailed theoretical calculations confirm the key role of the effective hot exciton process from the high‐lying triplet energy level (Tn, n ≥ 2) to S1 via a reverse intersystem crossing (hRISC). Furthermore, the device lifetime is also greatly improved owing to the fast and efficient hRISC in the introduced hot exciton EEL. Using an experimental animal model, our previous research observed that the hepatitis B virus genes integrated into human spermatozoa can replicate and express after being transmitted to embryos. However, as of now, this phenomenon has not been confirmed in clinical data from patients.To explore the integration of the hepatitis B virus into patients' sperm genome and its potential clinical risks.Forty‐eight patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection were categorized into two groups: Test Group‐1 comprised 23 patients without integration of hepatitis B virus DNA within the sperm genome. Test Group‐2 comprised 25 patients with integration of hepatitis B virus DNA within the sperm genome. Forty‐eight healthy male donors were included as control. The standard semen parameter analysis, real‐time polymerase chain reaction, quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction, sperm chromatin structure assay, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and immunofluorescence assays were utilized.The difference in the median copy number of hepatitis B virus DNA per mL of sera between Test Group‐1 and Group‐2 was not statistically significant. In Test Group‐2, the integration rate of hepatitis B virus DNA was 0.109%, which showed a significant correlation with the median copy number of hepatitis B virus DNA in motile spermatozoa (1.18 × 103/mL). Abnormal semen parameters were found in almost all these 25 patients. The integrated hepatitis B virus S, C, X, and P genes were detected to be introduced into sperm‐derived embryos through fertilization and retained their function in replication, transcription, and translation.Our findings suggest that hepatitis B virus infection can lead to sperm quality deterioration and reduced fertilization capacity. Furthermore, viral integration causes instability in the sperm genome, increasing the potential risk of termination, miscarriage, and stillbirth. This study identified an unconventional mode of hepatitis B virus transmission through genes rather than virions. Summary Wood formation, which occurs mainly through secondary xylem development, is important not only for supplying raw material for the ‘ligno‐chemical’ industry but also for driving the storage of carbon. However, the complex mechanisms underlying the promotion of xylem formation remain to be elucidated. Here, we found that overexpression of Auxin‐Regulated Gene involved in Organ Size (ARGOS) in hybrid poplar 84 K (Populus alba × Populus tremula var. glandulosa) enlarged organ size. In particular, PagARGOS promoted secondary growth of stems with increased xylem formation. To gain further insight into how PagARGOS regulates xylem development, we further carried out yeast two‐hybrid screening and identified that the auxin transporter WALLS ARE THIN1 (WAT1) interacts with PagARGOS. Overexpression of PagARGOS up‐regulated WAT1, activating a downstream auxin response promoting cambial cell division and xylem differentiation for wood formation. Moreover, overexpressing PagARGOS caused not only higher wood yield but also lower lignin content compared with wild‐type controls. OLEDs with high efficiency and low roll‐off are urgently needed to meet the constantly increasing commercial demands for white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs) in lighting industry applications. To enhance efficiency and decrease WOLED roll‐off, complicated doping technologies are employed, which result in an additional increase in costs. Herein, a deep‐blue‐light molecule (3TPA‐CN) with aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) is introduced as blue emitter and phosphor host to fabricate WOLEDs. By optimizing the emission zones, high efficiency and low roll‐off hybrid WOLEDs are achieved. The maximum forward‐viewing power and external quantum efficiencies reach 86.7 lm W−1 and 22.3%, and remain 59.2 lm W−1 and 19.6% at a luminance of 1000 cd m−2, fully exhibiting the prospect of AIE molecules as a promising electroluminescence material for the fabrication of high‐performance WOLEDs. Sodium–air (Na–O2) batteries have recently developed as a high theoretical energy density energy storage and conversion system. In particular, Na–O2 batteries with superoxide as the discharge product have a very high round‐trip energy efficiency over lithium–air batteries due to their significantly reduced charging overpotential. However, Na–O2 batteries yet suffer from limited cycling lives because of the formation and incomplete removal of side products during oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) processes, while the mechanism of these processes is still not fully understood. Herein, a detailed investigation on tracking the decomposition pathway of cubic‐shaped micrometer‐sized NaO2 discharge products in Na–O2 batteries with carbon‐based air electrodes is reported. A detailed electrochemical charging mechanism is revealed during the charging process. The evolution of the chemical compositions of the discharge/side products in air electrode during charging is also verified by synchrotron‐based X‐ray absorption spectroscopy experiments. The formation of these intermediate phases other than NaO2 during the charging process results in high overpotentials. These new findings can contribute to a better understanding and the rational design of future Na–O2 batteries. The oxygen evolution mechanism of micrometer‐sized cubic‐shaped sodium superoxide discharge product in Na–air batteries is clarified. The application of Li‐S batteries is hindered by low sulfur utilization and rapid capacity decay originating from slow electrochemical kinetics of polysulfide transformation to Li2S at the second discharge plateau around 2.1 V and harsh shuttling effects for high‐S‐loading cathodes. Herein, a cobalt‐doped SnS2 anchored on N‐doped carbon nanotube (NCNT@Co‐SnS2) substrate is rationally designed as both a polysulfide shield to mitigate the shuttling effects and an electrocatalyst to improve the interconversion kinetics from polysulfides to Li2S. As a result, high‐S‐loading cathodes are demonstrated to achieve good cycling stability with high sulfur utilization. It is shown that Co‐doping plays an important role in realizing high initial capacity and good capacity retention for Li‐S batteries. The S/NCNT@Co‐SnS2 cell (3 mg cm−2 sulfur loading) delivers a high initial specific capacity of 1337.1 mA h g−1 (excluding the Co‐SnS2 capacity contribution) and 1004.3 mA h g−1 after 100 cycles at a current density of 1.3 mA cm−2, while the counterpart cell (S/NCNT@SnS2) only shows an initial capacity of 1074.7 and 843 mA h g−1 at the 100th cycle. The synergy effect of polysulfide confinement and catalyzed polysulfide conversion provides an effective strategy in improving the electrochemical performance for high‐sulfur‐loading Li‐S batteries. The S/NCNT@Co‐SnS2 material acts as not only an effective shuttle‐suppressing shield for polysulfide but also an electrocatalyst in improving sulfur utilization and cycling stability for high‐sulfur‐loading lithium‐sulfur batteries. Development of Li‐O2 batteries with ultrahigh theoretical energy density is highly desired to meet the ever‐increasing demand of energy density. However, safety concerns and cycling life have become main bottlenecks that inhibit the practical applications of Li‐O2 batteries because of the use of organic liquid electrolytes (LEs) and the noneffective air electrodes. Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) are reported to be used in Li‐O2 batteries and show relatively improved performance than LEs, but they are still below the expectation. Herein, a quasi‐solid‐state Li‐O2 battery constructed with a GPE and a high‐efficiency air electrode is proposed. Excellent electrochemical performance is demonstrated beyond the batteries with LE, evidenced by the ultralong cycle life of up to 553 cycles and stable operating time for over 1100 h. The elongated cycling life benefits from the role of GPE in blocking O2 crossover, protecting Li metal, and avoiding electrolyte evaporation compared with LE. It is expected that the present study can shed light on the future study on developing efficient catalysts for (quasi) solid‐state Li‐O2 battery. Quasi‐solid‐state Li‐O2 batteries with an ultralong cycling life of up to 553 cycles are built by pairing an advanced gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) with a high efficiency air electrode. Background This study examined the expression of exchange protein directly activated by c AMP1 ( Epac1), PDE4, and PKC in esophageal cancer tissues, and analyzed the association of each protein with the pathological parameters of the samples. Methods Epac1, PDE4, and PKC protein expression was evaluated by PV-9000 two-step immunohistochemical techniques in 51 esophageal cancer specimens and 10 para-carcinoma tissues. Results The positive expression rates of Epac1 and PKC in esophageal cancer tissues (62.7% and 68.6%, respectively) were higher compared to those in para-carcinoma tissues (20% and 20%, respectively) ( P < 0.05). The positive expression rate of PDE4 in esophageal cancer tissues (54.1%) was higher than in para-carcinoma tissues (30%), ( P > 0.05). Epac1, PDE4, and PKC protein expression levels were not associated with the extent of tumor differentiation and/or lymph node metastasis ( P > 0.05). Epac1 protein expression levels correlated with PDE4, PKC, and AKAP95 protein expression levels. In addition, there was a correlation between PKC and Cx43 protein levels ( P < 0.05). Conclusion The expression rates of Epac1, PDE4, and PKC protein in esophageal cancer tissues were significantly higher compared to the rates in para-carcinoma tissues, suggesting an association between these proteins and the development and progression of esophageal cancer. Electrocatalysts are crucial to drive the electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) which lower the energy barrier, tune the intricate reaction pathways and suppress competitive side‐reaction. Beyond the efficient active sites and advantageous local environment, a rapid mass transfer ability is also crucial for the catalyst design. However, it is rare that research has been done to investigate in detail the mass transfer process in CO2RR, and expose the underlying relationship between mass transfer and final performance. Here, a single‐atom Fe‐N‐C catalyst is shown with a highly ordered porous substrate containing hierarchical micropores, mesopores, and macropores. Such a delicate porous structure significantly facilitates the mass transfer process toward the isolated Fe sites, achieving excellent CO2RR performance, especially in the limited mass transfer region in a H‐cell with a maximum CO partial current density of ‐19 mA cm−2. Operando electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and relevant distributed relaxation times analysis reveal the rapidly decreased mass transfer resistance with the increase of reduction potential. The Lattice Boltzmann method with Discrete Element method (LBM‐DEM) simulations are further performed to exhibit the origin of enhanced CO2RR performance from the facilitated gas diffusion process. Exercise training can reduce hepatic fat accumulation and cardiovascular risk among patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease ( NAFLD), but how long these benefits extend beyond the period of active intervention is unclear. Intrahepatic triglyceride ( IHTG) content, measured by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and metabolic risk factors among 220 obese people with NAFLD, who were randomly assigned to vigorous/moderate exercise, moderate exercise or no exercise (control), were assessed at 1 year after the 12-month exercise intervention. IHTG content was significantly reduced in the 2 exercise groups compared with the control group over the 12-month active intervention. It was significantly lower (by −2.39%) in the vigorous/moderate exercise group compared with the control group at the 1-year follow-up (95% confidence interval −4.72 to −0.05%; P = .045). Waist circumference and blood pressure remained significantly lower in the vigorous/moderate exercise group and the moderate exercise group compared with the control group at the 1-year follow-up. Visceral adipose fat remained significantly reduced, but with no differences among 3 groups. These findings suggest 12-month exercise intervention induced reductions in hepatic fat accumulation, abdominal obesity and blood pressure for up to 1 year after the active intervention, with some attenuation of the benefits. The operational lifetime of blue organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) is still insufficient for practical applications in lighting and display. One type of blue organic emitting materials with hybridized local and charge‐transfer (HLCT) process are beneficial in achieving high‐efficiency OLEDs through "hot exciton" channel by harnessing high‐lying triplet (Tn) excitons. However, the operational lifetime of the resulting blue OLEDs is rarely studied and understood. In this article, the aging properties of blue fluorescent OLEDs based on an HLCT material (2‐(4‐(10‐(3‐(9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)phenyl)anthracen‐9‐yl)phenyl)‐1‐phenyl‐1H‐phenanthro[9,10‐d]imidazole) (PAC) are systematically investigated by exciton dynamics calculation and transient EL experiments. It is experimentally and theoretically revealed that whether the reverse intersystem crossing (hRISC) process from high‐lying excited triplet to singlet in HLCT materials is completely effective determines the device degradation. A fluorescent emitter is doped into PAC host to accelerate the hRISC process, thus enhancing device operational lifetime to reach T75 = 110 ± 2 h (time to 75% of initial luminance) under 1000 cd m−2. Rationale: Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (AR) has been an often used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for a long time. Its salt‐processed form is one of the most common application forms. Modern pharmacological research has shown that the salt‐processed product has various significantly enhanced pharmacological activities. However, the pharmacodynamic material basis of this change is not yet known. The aim of this study was to develop a strategy to screen pharmacodynamic substances in AR and salt‐processed AR (SAR). Methods: An integrated strategy combining plant metabolomics with molecular docking technology was established to screen pharmacodynamic substances. The plant metabolomics analysis was performed to select the chemical markers between AR and SAR. Then, molecular docking technology was applied to explore the relationship between chemical markers and diabetes targets (α‐glucosidase). Finally, potential quality control markers were screened. Results: There were significant differences in the quantification of nine steroidal saponins between AR and SAR. The results of plant metabolomics analysis showed a quite clear discrimination including 29 chemical markers between AR and SAR. Taking the hypoglycemic activity into consideration, 16 steroidal saponins were selected as potential quality markers. Conclusions: The developed method not only supplied an optional solution to search for pharmacophores in AR and SAR, but also provided a foundation for the study of the differential components and pharmacodynamics in various processed products of TCMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding evolution of antibiotic resistance is vital for containing its global spread. Yet our ability to in situ track highly heterogeneous and dynamic evolution is very limited. Here, we present a new single‐cell approach integrating D2O‐labeled Raman spectroscopy, advanced multivariate analysis, and genotypic profiling to in situ track physiological evolution trajectory toward resistance. Physiological diversification of individual cells from isogenic population with cyclic ampicillin treatment is captured. Advanced multivariate analysis of spectral changes classifies all individual cells into four subsets of sensitive, intrinsic tolerant, evolved tolerant and resistant. Remarkably, their dynamic shifts with evolution are depicted and spectral markers of each state are identified. Genotypic analysis validates the phenotypic shift and provides insights into the underlying genetic basis.
