14,14′‐Bidibenzo[a,j]anthracenes (BDBAs) were prepared by iridium‐catalyzed annulation of 5,5′‐biterphenylene with alkynes. The molecular geometries of overcrowded BDBAs were verified by X‐ray crystallography. The two dibenzo[a,j]anthryl moieties are connected through the sterically hindered 14 positions, resulting in highly distorted molecular halves. The conformation with a small twist angle between two molecular halves can minimize steric conflicts between the substituents at 1 and 13 positions and the carbon atoms of the central axis, as well as steric clashes between those substituents. One such example is octafluoro‐substituted BDBA, where the interplanar angle between two anthryl moieties is approximately 31° (currently the lowest reported value, cf. 81° in 9,9′‐bianthracene). The intramolecular interactions and electronic couplings between two molecular halves resulted in upfield 1H NMR signals, redshifted absorption and emission bands, and a reduced HOMO–LUMO gap. Photodynamic investigations on BDBAs indicated that the formation of the conventional symmetry‐breaking charge transfer (SBCT) state was suspended by restricted rocking around the central C−C bond. This study investigates whether and how air pollution can affect the crude oil futures market. The results indicate that, although air pollution does not significantly affect oil returns, it does have a significant negative impact on volatility and liquidity in the crude oil futures market in the presence of pit trading. Furthermore, air pollution near the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) negatively affects both volatility and liquidity, whereas the effect magnitude diminishes as the distance from the NYMEX increases. The electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) holds substantial promise for producing high‐value chemicals and fuels, drawing significant attention from both academia and industry. This work proposes an in‐situ electrodeposition method to prepare indium‐doped copper (Cu)‐based catalysts on carbon paper (Cu100Inx−CP, x=3.9, 4.5, 4.8, 5.1, and 7.6, denoting the molar ratio of In to Cu in the catalyst.). The catalysts Cu100Inx−CP were used for CO2RR to produce multi‐carbon (C2+) products. Characterization results showed that In was highly dispersed in the Cu particles at x<5.1. The Cu100In5.1−CP (containing 0.95 wt % In based on Cu) was very efficient for electrocatalytic CO2RR. The in‐situ Raman spectroscopy showed that Cu100In5.1−CP enhanced *CO intermediate adsorption and promoted the production of C2+ products due to the synergistic effect between In and Cu. In doping could suppress HER, enhanced *CO intermediate adsorption, and C−C coupling for the production of C2+ products in CO2RR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electroreduction of CO2 to C2+ products provides a promising strategy for reaching the goal of carbon neutrality. However, achieving high selectivity of C2+ products at high current density remains a challenge. In this work, we designed and prepared a multi‐sites catalyst, in which Pd was atomically dispersed in Cu (Pd−Cu). It was found that the Pd−Cu catalyst had excellent performance for producing C2+ products from CO2 electroreduction. The Faradaic efficiency (FE) of C2+ products could be maintained at approximately 80.8 %, even at a high current density of 0.8 A cm−2 for at least 20 hours. In addition, the FE of C2+ products was above 70 % at 1.4 A cm−2. Experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the catalyst had three distinct catalytic sites. These three active sites allowed for efficient conversion of CO2, water dissociation, and CO conversion, ultimately leading to high yields of C2+ products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and incurable disorder associated with higher cancer risk and currently faces unsatisfactory treatment outcomes. Ferroptotic cells secrete damage‐associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) that recruit and activate immune cells, particularly macrophages. Magnolin has excellent antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties, but its effect on IBD has not yet been clearly understood. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanism of magnolin in IBD. For this purpose, in vivo and in vitro colitis models were established using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), followed by optimization of magnolin concentration 2.5 μg/mL in vitro and 5 mg/kg in vivo. Bioinformatics analysis identified potential magnolin target sites and evaluated ferroptosis‐associated gene expressions. Body weight, food intake, disease activity index (DAI), pathological changes, and inflammation levels were assessed. The effect of magnolin on ferroptosis and macrophages was evaluated using quantitative real time‐polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR), immunofluorescent staining, flow cytometry, enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and western blotting. Results indicated that magnolin at a lower dose (5 mg/kg) alleviated DSS‐induced colitis symptoms and reduced inflammation in mice. The bioinformatics analysis showed arachidonate 5‐lipoxygenase (ALOX5) as a potential magnolin target. Furthermore, magnolin inhibited the expression of ALOX5 with no effect on GPX4. Moreover, magnolin regulated macrophage differentiation into the M2 phenotype and suppressed pro‐inflammatory factors, that is, interleukin‐6 and tumor necrosis factor‐α (IL‐6 and TNFα). These results suggested that magnolin possesses significant therapeutic potential in treating IBD by suppressing ALOX5‐mediated ferroptosis, inhibiting M1 while promoting M2 macrophages, which is envisaged to provide novel strategies for treating IBD. Cu is a promising electrocatalyst for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to produce high‐value C2+ products. Due to the fierce competition of the hydrogen evolution reaction, the slow diffusion of CO2, and the high energy barrier of the C−C coupling reaction, it is still challenging to achieve high activity and high selectivity to produce multi‐carbon products on copper‐based electrocatalysts. In this work, we synthesized Cu/CeO2 catalysts with varying amounts of Cu doping, aiming at effectively converting CO2 into C2+ products through electroreduction. At a copper doping level of 9.77 wt%, the catalyst exhibited a current density of 16.8 mA cm−2 using a standard H‐type cell, achieving a C2+ faradaic efficiency (FE) of 78.3 %. Through additional experiments and material characterization, we confirmed that controlling the Cu loading on the surface of CeO2 is an effective way to regulate the ratio of Cu+ to Cu0 active sites and the number of oxygen vacancies. Furthermore, the strong electron interaction between Ce4+−O2−−Cu+ structure can stabilize Cu+ species and enhance the overall stability of the catalyst. A new series of biaryls, bi‐linear‐terphenylenes (BLTPs), were prepared using the tert‐butyllithium‐mediated cyclization as the key synthetic step. The three‐dimensional structures of the studied compounds were verified using X‐ray crystallography and DFT calculations. Tetraaryl(ethynyl)‐substituted BLTPs are highly crowded molecules, and the internal rotation around the central C−C bond is restricted due to a high barrier (>50 kcal/mol). These structures contain several aryl/terphenylenyl/aryl sandwiches, where the through‐space π‐π (TSPP) interactions are strongly reflected in the shielding of 1H NMR chemical shifts, reduction of oxidation potentials, increasing aromaticity of the central six‐membered ring and decreasing antiaromaticity of the four‐membered rings in a terphenylenyl moiety based on NICS(0) and iso‐chemical shielding surfaces. Despite the restricted C−C bond associated intramolecular TSPP interactions for BLTPs in the ground state, to our surprise, the electronic coupling between two linear terphenylenes (LTPs) in BLTPs in the excited state is weak, so that the excited‐state behavior is dominated by the corresponding monomeric LTPs. In other words, all BLTPs undergo ultrafast relaxation dynamics via strong exciton‐vibration coupling, acting as a blue‐light absorber with essentially no emission. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Sufu, a traditional Chinese fermented soybean food, had its flavour and quality influenced by the specific strains and fermentation environment. To investigate how microbial community succession affects the volatile aroma substances of Mucor racemosus sufu during fermentation, the microbial community structure using high‐throughput sequencing (HTS) technology was analysed. Additionally, volatile flavour compounds using solid‐phase microextraction gas chromatography mass spectrometry (SPME‐GC–MS) were detected. Throughout the pre‐fermentation, salting, and post‐fermentation stages, the changes in the microbial communities over time and space due to environmental variations were observed. The colony compositions at the phylum and genus levels were also analysed. The results revealed that Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria were the dominant bacterial phyla in the final fermented product. Furthermore, several microorganisms associated with flavour substances were identified, such as Lactobacillus, Pseudomonas, Wescheria, Hyphomyces, Candida, and Pichia. These microorganisms primarily influenced the synthesis of alcohols and acids, contributing to the overall flavour profile of the sufu. In the analysis of the final product, it identified fifty‐four volatile flavour compounds, including alcohols, esters, phenolic acids, aldehydes, ketones, ether, alkenes, and other compounds. The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) presents a promising approach for producing valuable chemicals and fuels, offering a dual benefit in terms of environmental preservation and the efficient utilization of carbon resources. In this work, we proposed a stepwise electrodeposition method to prepare Cu−Pb bimetallic heterojunction catalyst on polyaniline‐modified carbon paper (PANI‐CuPb‐x), where x is the electrodeposition times(min). Among the studied catalysts, the electrode electrodeposited for 2 min (PANI‐CuPb‐2) exhibited a remarkable performance during the electrocatalysis CO2 to multicarbon (C2+) products process, achieving a Faraday efficiency (FE) of 81.46 % and a partial current density of 15.41 mA cm−2 at −1.2 V (vs. RHE) in an H‐type cell. The detailed study demonstrated that introducing Pb could effectively improve the formation of COOH*inhibit hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Furthermore, the heterojunction structure in the catalysts facilitated C−C coupling of the generated C1 intermediate species, which enhanced the CO2 to C2+ reaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Planar‐chiral cyclophanes have received increasing attention for drug discovery and catalyst design. However, the catalytically asymmetric synthesis of planar‐chiral cyclophanes has been a longstanding challenge. We describe the first Pd(II)‐catalyzed enantioselective C−H olefination of prochiral cyclophanes. The low rotational barrier of less hindered benzene ring in the substrates allows the reaction to proceed through a dynamic kinetic resolution. This approach exhibits broad substrate scope, providing the planar‐chiral cyclophanes in high yields (up to 99 %) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99 % ee). The ansa chain length scope studies reveal that the chirality of the cyclophanes arises from the bond rotation constraint of the benzene ring around the macrocycle plane, rather than the C−N axis. Gas sensors are useful for monitoring of greenhouse gases. As the move toward complementary metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (CMOS) compatible pyroelectric room temperature detectors is gaining traction due to its scalability to 8‐in./12‐in. wafer area and integrable with CMOS electronics, CMOS compatible aluminum nitride (AlN)‐ and scandium aluminum nitride (ScAlN)‐based pyroelectric detectors are developed for sensing of CO2and CH4gases, which are two of the greenhouse gases that contribute significantly to global warming. Leveraging gas absorption at respective mid‐infrared (IR) wavelengths, CO2 and CH4 gases are detected at various concentrations with fast response time ≈1 s. A compound parabolic collector (CPC) is designed and integrated into the gas sensor to enhance the optical flux received by the detector, which demonstrates ≈10× signal improvement in its presence. Further factors such as the effect of sensing area reduction and response to random gas concentrations are also tested on AlN‐ and ScAlN‐based pyroelectric detectors respectively to observe the gas sensing behaviors of both detectors. The results obtained provide further understanding of the behavior of CMOS AlN‐ and ScAlN‐based pyroelectric detectors as IR gas sensors, which can potentially inspire new design and design selection for various gas sensing applications. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) specific T cell immune response plays a vital role in viral clearance. Dendritic cell derived exosomes (Dexs) can activate T cell immunity effectively. Tapasin (TPN) is involved in antigen processing and specific immune recognition. In the present study, we elucidated that Dexs loading TPN (TPN‐Dexs) could enhance CD8+ T cell immune response and inhibit virus replication in HBV transgenic mice. T cell immune response and the ability of inhibiting HBV replication were measured in HBV transgenic mice immunized with TPN‐Dexs. Meanwhile, CD8+ T cell autophagy and specific T cell immune responses were measured in vitro and vivo, and the mechanisms probably involved in were explored. Purified TPN‐Dexs could be taken up into the cytoplasm of DCs and upregulate CD8+ T cell autophagy to enhance specific T cell immune response. In addition, TPN‐Dexs could increase the expression of AKT and decrease the expression of mTOR in CD8+ T cells. Further research confirmed that TPN‐Dexs could inhibit virus replication and decrease the expression of HBsAg in the liver of HBV transgenic mice. Nevertheless, those also could elicit mice hepatocytes damage. In conclusion, TPN‐Dexs could enhance specific CD8+ T cell immune responses via the AKT/mTOR pathway to regulate the autophagy and exert the antiviral effect in HBV transgenic mice. This article examines the impact of "finance + technology" (Fintech) on different sizes of banks economic capital through the application of Fintech perspective in China during the period January 2011 and September 2019, using a dynamic panel generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation technique. The study found compared with small and medium‐sized banks, large state‐owned commercial banks have advantages in scale, capital and experience. There is a negative correlation between the scale of assets of commercial banks and economic capital. Research Question/Issue: The paper aims to understand the factors hindering and facilitating women's access to top management teams (TMTs) and boards of directors. It provides a systematic review of extant scholarly work on the antecedents of TMT and board gender diversity. Research Findings/Insights: Reviewing and integrating research from over 200 journal publications, I develop an integrative review of the antecedents of gender diversity for two types of research contexts—TMT and board—at three levels: person centered, situation centered, and social‐system centered. I also identify knowledge gaps and suggest areas for future research. Theoretical/Academic Implications: This comprehensive review of extant research simultaneously considers antecedents of TMT gender diversity and board gender diversity, providing insights into divergent trends of TMT and board gender diversity while highlighting understudied areas. Hopefully, the review will inspire more research to advance knowledge of the antecedents of TMT and board gender diversity, areas that have received relatively little attention compared with extensive research on the consequences of gender diversity. Practitioner/Policy Implications: Gender diversity in corporate leadership is a topic of great interest. The growth in board gender diversity is unprecedented, but growth in TMT gender diversity has been stagnant. I offer a synthesis of extant literature to understand the social, situational, and individual drivers of TMT and board gender diversity, providing valuable insights for policymakers, investors, executives, and directors who seek to improve corporate leadership gender diversity. Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors enable precision sensing of an object in 3D. LiDAR technology is widely used in metrology, environment monitoring, archaeology, and robotics. It also shows high potential to be applied in autonomous driving. In traditional LiDAR sensors, mechanical rotator is used for optical beam scanning, which brings about limitations on their reliability, size, and cost. These limitations can be overcome by a more compact solid‐state solution. Solid‐state LiDAR sensors are commonly categorized into the following three types: flash‐based LiDAR, microelectromechanical system (MEMS)‐based LiDAR, and optical phased array (OPA)‐based LiDAR. Furthermore, advanced optics technology enables novel nanophotonics‐based devices with high potential and superior advantages to be utilized in a LiDAR sensor. In this review, LiDAR sensor principles are introduced, including three commonly used sensing schemes: pulsed time of flight (TOF), amplitude‐modulated continuous wave TOF, and frequency‐modulated continuous wave. Recent advances in conventional solid‐state LiDAR sensors are summarized and presented, including flash‐based LiDAR, MEMS‐based LiDAR, and OPA‐based LiDAR. The recent progress on emerging nanophotonics‐based LiDAR sensors is also covered. A summary is made and the future outlook on advanced LiDAR sensors is provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herein, a modified quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method with multi‐walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) as a dispersive solid‐phase extraction was developed for simultaneous determination of pinoxaden (PXD), cloquintocet‐mexyl (CLM), clodinafop‐propargyl ester (CPE) and its major metabolite (clodinafop, CP) in barley grass powder, barley grain, and soil using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). We found that MWCNT as an absorbent could improve the recoveries of the tested analytes, particularly CP, in complex matrices. Under the optimum conditions, the established MWCNT‐modified QuEChERS coupled with LC–MS/MS method exhibited excellent linearity (R2) of ≥0.9912, low limits of detection (LODs) and quantification (LOQs) of 0.02–0.07 and 0.29–1.26 μg kg−1, and acceptable recoveries of 80–130% with intra‐ and inter‐day relative standard deviations (RSDs) < 10.5%. No strong matrix effect (ME) has been observed on the respective samples. The method was successfully applied to monitor the tested analytes in the representative field incurred samples. Conclusively, the proposed method is sensitive and reliable and could be used to monitor the residues of PDX, CLM, CPE, and CP in complicated agro‐products and soil matrices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aging is characterized by inevitable organ function decline over time, with consequent body deterioration and increased susceptibility to death. Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) has been reported to have anti‐oxidative, anti‐apoptotic, and anti‐inflammatory properties. We investigated the potential protective effects of APS on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) induced hepatocyte senescence and identified related mechanisms in L02, Huh7, and LM3 cell lines. Aged female C57BL/6 mice were given APS for 1 week by intraperitoneal injection, and APS provided the strongest protective effect against H2O2‐induced damage at 100 μM. APS reduced the expression of cell senescence markers and alleviated pathological damage in aged mouse liver. APS treatment decreased oxidative stress, apoptosis, NOD‐like receptor protein‐3‐mediated pyroptosis, and maintained mitochondrial homeostasis. Notably, the protective effect of APS was weakened in the presence of chloroquine. APS might enrich autophagy by activating AMP‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) and inhibiting mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). In conclusion, APS reduced reactive oxygen species levels, inhibited apoptosis and pyroptosis, and promoted mitophagy via AMPK/mTOR pathway to alleviate hepatocyte senescence in vitro and in vivo. A porous molecular crystal (PMC) assembled by macrocyclic cyclotetrabenzoin acetate is an efficient adsorbent for CO2 separations. The 7.1×7.1 Å square pore of PMC and its ester C=O groups play important roles in improving its affinity for CO2 molecules. The benzene walls of macrocycle engage in an apparent [π⋅⋅⋅π] interaction with the molecule of CO2 at low pressure. In addition, the polar carbonyl groups pointing inward the square channels reduce the size of aperture to a 5.0×5.0 Å square, which offers kinetic selectivity for CO2 capture. The PMC features water tolerance and high structural stability under vacuum and various gas adsorption conditions, which are rare among intrinsically porous organic molecules. Most importantly, the moderate adsorbate‐adsorbent interaction allows the PMC to be readily regenerated, and therefore applied to pressure swing adsorption processes. The eluted N2 and CH4 are obtained with over 99.9 % and 99.8 % purity, respectively, and the separation performance is stable for 30 cycles. Coupled with its easy synthesis, cyclotetrabenzoin acetate is a promising adsorbent for CO2 separations from flue and natural gases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of new [2,2]fluorenophanes has been synthesized and characterized; among them, molecules of crystallographically asymmetric anti‐[2.2](1,4)(4,1)fluorenophane (K2C‐2) aggregate to form one‐dimensional supramolecular chain structures through effective intermolecular π‐π overlapping. This, in combination with the synergistic intramolecular π‐π interaction, leads to prominent dual emission mediated by charge transfer (CT) exciton delocalization. Support of this new insight is given by mapping the transition density along the π‐π packing direction where the intramolecular excitation and intermolecular CT coexist in K2C‐2. The enantioselective desymmetrizing C−H activation of α‐gem‐dialkyl acyclic amides remains challenging because the availability of four chemically identical unbiased methylene C(sp3)−H bonds and increased rotational freedoms of the acyclic systems add tremendous difficulties for chemo‐ and stereocontrol. We have developed a method for the synthesis of acyclic aliphatic amides with α,β‐contiguous stereogenic centers via PdII‐catalyzed asymmetric arylation of unbiased methylene C(sp3)−H, in good yields and with high levels of enantio‐, chemo‐ and diastereoselectivity (up to >99 % ee and >20:1 d.r.). Successive application of this method enables the sequential arylation of the gem‐dialkyl groups with two different aryl iodides, giving a range of β‐Ar1‐β′‐Ar2‐aliphatic acyclic amides containing three contiguous stereogenic centers with excellent diastereoselectivity. Exercise‐induced fatigue and exhaustion are interesting areas for many researchers. Muscle glycogen is critical for physical performance. However, how glycogen metabolism is manipulated during exercise is not very clear. The aim here is to assess the impact of interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) on skeletal muscle glycogen and subsequent regulation of exercise capacity. Skeletal muscle‐specific IRF4 knockout mice show normal body weight and insulin sensitivity, but better exercise capacity and increased glycogen content with unaltered triglyceride levels compared to control mice on chow diet. In contrast, mice overexpression of IRF4 displays decreased exercise capacity and lower glycogen content. Mechanistically, IRF4 regulates glycogen‐associated regulatory subunit protein targeting to glycogen (PTG) to manipulate glucose metabolism in skeletal muscle. Knockdown of PTG can reverse the effects imposed by the absence of IRF4 in vivo. These studies reveal a regulatory pathway including IRF4/PTG/glycogen synthesis on controlling exercise capacity. Monolayer transition‐metal dichalcogenides have inspired worldwide efforts in optoelectronic devices but real applications are hindered with their reduced optical absorption due to their atomically ultrathin signature. In this study, by utilizing their biradical nature such as excellent absorption coefficient, broad bandwidth from the ultraviolet to near‐infrared region, and small triplet–singlet energy gap, a series of helicene 5,14‐diaryldiindeno[2,1‐f:1′,2′‐j]picene (DDP) derivatives (1ab, 1ac, and 1bb) are integrated with monolayer MoS2 for extraordinary photodetector performance and outstanding stability. Via comprehensive time‐resolved studies, the interfacial charge‐transfer process from the DDPs to the MoS2 layer is evidenced by the stabilized exciton property of the organics (1ac)/MoS2 heterostructure. Significantly, the 1ac/MoS2 photodetector exhibits an ultrahigh photoresponsivity of 5 × 107 A W−1 and a fast response speed of 45 ms due to the highly efficient photoexcited carrier separation and the matched type‐II energy band alignment. The biradical 1ac/MoS2 hybrid photodetector shows no sign of degradation after one‐month operation. Shewanella xiamenensis is an emerging pathogen causing intra‐abdominal infection and intestinal colonization. Epidemiologic clues suggest its role as a potential food‐borne zoonotic agent. To date, four genome sequences of S. xiamenensis have been made publicly available. All of them were isolated from water samples. In this study, we characterized the genome of a S. xiamenensis strain isolated from a giant grouper in Taiwan. The genome of S. xiamenensis ZYW1 is 4,827,717 bp in length and encodes 4,239 open reading frames. Its genomic sequence shares high homology with other S. xiamenensis strains. blaOXA‐416 was identified. This is the first detection of S. xiamenensis in Taiwan. These genomic data and analyses contribute to our understanding of S. xiamenensis and may help to elucidate disease‐causing mechanisms in future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Indeno[1,2‐b]fluorene‐based [2,2]cyclophanes with 4n/4n and 4n/[4n+2] π‐electron systems were prepared, and their structures were identified by X‐ray crystallography. With short π–π distances around 3.0 Å, [2.2](5,11)indeno[1,2‐b]fluorenophane and its precursor [2.2](5,11)indeno[1,2‐b]fluorene‐6,12‐dionophane exhibit remarkable transannular interactions, leading to their unusual electrochemical and photophysical properties. With the aid of femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, the transition from the monomeric excited state to the redshifted H‐type dimeric state was first observed, correlating to the calculated excitonic energy splitting and the steady‐state absorption spectra induced by charge‐transfer‐mediated superexchange interaction. Background: Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) induced by subtle cardiac dysfunction are missed by echocardiography. We evaluated acoustic cardiography for detection of early electromechanical dysfunction in patients with idiopathic PVCs and normal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and investigated the impact of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in reversing this adverse effect. Methods: Eighty‐six patients with PVCs and 33 normal controls having normal LVEF were studied. Fifty PVC patients were in the ablation group and 36 in the nonablation group. %Electromechanical activation time (%EMAT), %left ventricular systolic time (%LVST), third (S3) and fourth heart sound (S4), and systolic dysfunction index (SDI) during sinus rhythm (SR) were measured by acoustic cardiography (Audicor, Inovise Medical, Inc., Beaverton, OR, USA) pre‐ and postablation. In 28 patients, acoustic parameters were compared during SR without PVCs, and SR with single PVC, ≥ 2 PVCs, or ventricular tachycardia over 10‐second Audicor recording in a single patient at different times. Twenty‐four‐hour acoustic cardiographic and acoustic cardiographic Holter recording were used to assess the impact of PVC burden on electromechanical function in 41 patients. Results: %EMAT, S3, S4, and SDI showed significant worsening in the PVC versus control group. %EMAT and SDI were worsened with increasing PVC number in a 10‐second strip. %EMAT showed significant linear increment with increasing PVC burden. There was a significant improvement in %EMAT, %LVST, S3, S4, and SDI postablation in patients with PVCs. Diindeno‐fused dibenzo[a,h]anthracene 6 and diindeno‐fused dibenzo[c,l]chrysene 9 contain the key moieties 1,4‐quinodipropene (1,4‐QDP) and 2,6‐naphthoquinodipropene (2,6‐NQDP), respectively, and they both have an open‐shell singlet ground state. The latter compound exhibits a strong biradical character and interesting properties, including a low ΔET−S (2.44 kcal mol−1), a small HOMO–LUMO gap (1.06 eV), a wide photoabsorption range (250–1172 nm), and a large two‐photon absorption cross‐section (σ=1342±56 GM). This work verifies that 6 has a slightly larger HOMO–LUMO gap and ΔET−S than its helical isomer diindeno[2,1‐f:1′,2′‐j]picene (DIP), but is a much stronger two‐photon absorber, verifying the important effect of geometry on the photophysical properties. Tropical cyclones are a high risk to offshore wind turbine (OWT) support structures, so the design conditions, including this risk, are necessary for tropical cyclone frequent occurrence zones. This study developed a computer program to carry out a critical ultimate load analysis and determine the optimum design for a Jacket‐type OWT support structure. The total weight of the OWT support structure after the optimal steel design with the yaw operative condition is always considerably smaller than that without for the steel design results under the loads of the GL Tropical Cyclone Technical Note (GL TCTN). This paper studies OWTs under the tropical cyclone classes 1 to 3 and the terrain categories A, to C, where the 1‐minute wind speed at 10‐m height is gradually increased from classes 1 to 3, and the surface roughness decreases from A to C. When the yaw can operate, the total steel weight consumption due to the tropical cyclone 1C, 1B, and 2C loads is lower than that for the IEC 61400‐3 loads. In the case of 1A, the overall steel consumption is only slightly higher than that of the IEC 61400‐3. However, for other conditions, the design should include the GL TCTN loads. For the yaw inoperative condition, the GL TCTN results are always largely dominant in the steel design, so the use of only the IEC 61400‐3 condition will result in extremely high risk to OWT support structures. Abstract: Recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT) are at high risk for invasive mold infections (IMI). The goal of the study is to describe the incidence and outcome of IMI in patients after allo‐HSCT in a large cohort of patients receiving anti‐mold prophylaxis. We conducted a retrospective review of 988 consecutive adults who underwent allo‐HSCT in our center from 2008 through 2014. Standard prophylaxis consisted of micafungin 150 mg IV daily from admission to day +7 ± 3 followed by voriconazole until day +75 to +100. Cases meeting criteria for proven or probable IMI according to EORTC‐MSG criteria were included. Median age at HSCT was 54 years. The most common diagnoses were acute myeloid leukemia (n = 351, 36%) and lymphoid malignancies (n = 248, 25%). Matched related or unrelated donors (URD) were used in 686 (69%) patients, mismatched URD in 142 (14%) and cord blood units in 154 (16%). Twenty‐one patients were diagnosed with IMI after allo‐HSCT, 19 probable and 2 proven, and one patient was diagnosed postmortem. Microbiological diagnosis was established in 9 cases, 5 of them being Aspergillus. One‐year cumulative incidence (CI) of IMI was 1.6% (95% CI 0.9‐2.5) while 12‐week overall survival after IMI was 39% (95% CI 24‐65) Analyzed by disease, there was a trend for a higher 1‐year CI of IMI in patients with ALL (5% [95% CI 1.6‐11.4]) when compared with AML (1.4%), MDS (1.5%) and lymphoma (1.2%), P = .06. The 1‐year CI of IMI after transplantation is low in patients receiving anti‐mold prophylaxis with micafungin bridged to voriconazole, although these infections are associated with a higher risk of mortality. Abstract: Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) viremia after CD34+‐selected hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT) often requires prolonged antiviral therapy. We report rates and outcomes of resistant CMV in a contemporary cohort of CD34+‐selected HCT recipients managed preemptively. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 220 consecutive, CMV‐seropositive recipients (R+), who received CD34+‐selected HCT at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center between June 2010 and December 2014. Patients were monitored by quantitative CMV PCR and were treated preemptively. CMV resistance was tested by a genotypic assay. Results: One hundred and sixty‐one (73%) patients developed CMV viremia and 47 (29% of viremic and 21% of total patients) had CMV resistance testing by one‐year from HCT. CMV resistance was confirmed in 19 (12% of viremic and 9% of total) patients and was identified >3 months from HCT in 90% of patients. Twelve patients had mutations in UL97 only; the remaining 7 patients had mutations in UL54 only or UL54 and UL97. By 1 year from HCT, 11 of 19 (58%) patients with mutations had CMV end‐organ disease. CMV‐related mortality in patients with resistance was 42%. Conclusions: Nine percent of CMV R+, CD34+‐selected HCT recipients had resistant CMV by 1 year from HCT. Of 19 patients with resistant CMV, 58% had CMV end‐organ disease and 42% died of CMV. Effective strategies for CMV prevention and restoration of CMV immunity are needed for CD34+‐selected HCT. Abstract: Vertically aligned N‐doped graphene rooted on SiC microspheres (NG on SiC) is prepared by precursor pyrolysis. One of the raw materials, acetonitrile, has three important effects that could facilitate the N‐doping process effectively, promote the lateral dimensions and improve the graphitization degree of NG on SiC significantly. The metal‐free carbocatalyst NG on SiC is an effective and selective oxidation catalyst towards targeted C−H bond activation of ethylbenzene. The unique nanostructure of NG on SiC is composed of predispersed graphene, which is expected to avoid harmful agglomeration during preparation, storage, transportation, and applications. Abstract: Background: Septal ventricular outflow tract ventricular arrhythmias (OT‐VAs) are defined as septal origin VAs from the right ventricular or left ventricular OT. Patients with septal OT‐VAs may require a sequential bilateral OT ablation. This study aimed to evaluate the electrophysiological characteristics and ablation outcome in patients with septal OT‐VAs. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the electrocardiography and electrophysiological parameters in 96 patients (mean age 49 ± 15 years, 49 male) undergoing bilateral activation mapping before catheter ablation of idiopathic septal OT‐VAs. The patients were categorized into three groups based on the successful ablation sites, including the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT), RVOT/left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT), and LVOT. Results: Mapping in the three groups demonstrated a gradually decreasing and increasing trend in the earliest activation time obtained from the RVOT and LVOT, respectively. The absolute earliest activation time discrepancy (AEAD) of ≤18 milliseconds could predict the requirement for a sequential bilateral ablation with a sensitivity and specificity of 100.0% and 93.7%, respectively. The small AEAD (≤21 milliseconds) was associated with a higher recurrence rate in patients receiving a successful unilateral ablation, while patients with a longer distance between the bilateral OT earliest activation sites (DEA > 26 mm) increased future recurrences after an initially successful sequential bilateral ablation. Conclusions: The application of bilateral OT‐VA activation mapping and the measurement of the AEAD and DEA provided not only pivotal information for the ablation strategy, but also prognostic implications for recurrences in patients with septal OT‐VAs. Abstract: Introduction: Various ECG algorithms have been proposed to identify the origin of idiopathic outflow tract (OT)‐ventricular arrhythmia (VA). However, electrocardiographic features of failed and recurrent right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) ablation of idiopathic OT‐VAs have not been clearly elucidated. Methods and results: A total of 264 consecutive patients (mean age: 44.0 ± 13.0 years, 96 male) undergoing RVOT ablation for OT‐VAs with a transition ≥V3, including 241 patients (91.6%) with initially successful procedures and 23 patients (8.4%) with failed ablation. Detailed clinical characteristics and ECG features were analyzed and compared between the two groups. VAs with failed RVOT ablation had larger peak deflection index (PDI), longer V2 R wave duration (V2Rd), smaller V2 S wave amplitude, higher R/S ratio in V2, higher V3 R wave amplitude, and larger V2 transition ratio than those with successful ablation. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that PDI, V2Rd, V2 transition ratio, and pacemapping score acquired during mapping independently predicted failed ablation (P  =  0.01, P  =  0.01, P  =  0.01, and P < 0.001, respectively). In 31 recurrent cases (12.8%) after initially successful ablation, multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that only the earliest activation time acquired during mapping predicted the recurrences after successful ablation (P  =  0.001). The recurrent cases displayed different ECG features comparing with those with failed ablation. Conclusion: The electrocardiographic features of failed RVOT ablation of idiopathic OT‐VAs with a transition ≥V3 were characterized by PDI, V2Rd, V2 transition ratio, and pacemapping score acquired during mapping, unlike the recurrent RVOT ablation. Background Alcohol consumption is known to increase the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). Whether the genotypes of alcohol-metabolizing genes (alcohol dehydrogenase [ADH1B]) are associated with the risk of AF recurrence after catheter ablation remains unclear. Methods and results The ADH1B genotypes of 281 patients who received catheter ablation for AF were examined. We followed this group of patients to monitor their AF recurrence. Alcohol consumption levels of this cohort were evaluated before and after catheter ablation. There was no difference in the underlying diseases presented by the patients with different ADH1B genotypes. Regardless of the ADH1B genotypes, the amount of alcohol consumption was the only factor associated with left atrial dilatation. The ADH1B*2 alleles (hazard ratio: ADH1B*1/*2 vs *1/*1: 2.64; ADH1B*2/*2 vs *1/*1: 1.80, P = 0.02) and the levels of alcohol consumption were independently associated with AF recurrence in the patients with paroxysmal AF after catheter ablation. ADH1B polymorphisms were not associated with AF recurrence in the patients with nonparoxysmal AF. We also found that the association of increased AF recurrence with alcohol consumption and the ADH1B genotypes cannot be explained by mechanisms of systemic inflammation. This investigation demonstrates that a series of biphenylenes can be easily prepared from their corresponding halobiphenyls by the cyclization of in situ generated 2′,3′-didehydro-2-lithiobiphenyls at low temperature. Backgrounds Substrate property is related to the genesis and maintenance of atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of substrate property on the electrocardiogram (ECG) in patients with AF originating from the superior vena cava (SVC). Methods and Results Seventy-six patients with AF originating from SVC who underwent catheter ablation were included from 2004 to 2013. Of these patients, 16 had a presentation of atrial flutter (AFL)-pattern ECG during AF (group 1), and 60 patients did not (group 2). There was no significant difference in clinical characteristics between the groups. The percentage of low voltage zone (LVZ) in SVC below the level of pulmonary artery in group 1 was significantly larger than that in group 2. The polarities of the flutter wave in 12-lead ECG were compared with another 26 subjects with reverse typical AFL. The ECG morphology was characterized by negative or biphasic P waves in lead V1 in most of the patients in group 1 (62.5%), which was analogous to that in reverse typical AFL. The negative polarity of flutter waves in aVL might distinguish SVC AF with an AFL-pattern from reverse typical AFL. The chloroplast NAD(P)H dehydrogenase-like ( NDH) complex consists of about 30 subunits from both the nuclear and chloroplast genomes and is ubiquitous across most land plants. In some orchids, such as Phalaenopsis equestris, Dendrobium officinale and Dendrobium catenatum, most of the 11 chloroplast genome-encoded ndh genes (cp- ndh) have been lost. Here we investigated whether functional cp- ndh genes have been completely lost in these orchids or whether they have been transferred and retained in the nuclear genome. Further, we assessed whether both cp- ndh genes and nucleus-encoded NDH-related genes can be lost, resulting in the absence of the NDH complex. Comparative analyses of the genome of Apostasia odorata, an orchid species with a complete complement of cp- ndh genes which represents the sister lineage to all other orchids, and three published orchid genome sequences for P. equestris, D. officinale and D. catenatum, which are all missing cp- ndh genes, indicated that copies of cp- ndh genes are not present in any of these four nuclear genomes. This observation suggests that the NDH complex is not necessary for some plants. Comparative genomic/transcriptomic analyses of currently available plastid genome sequences and nuclear transcriptome data showed that 47 out of 660 photoautotrophic plants and all the heterotrophic plants are missing plastid-encoded cp- ndh genes and exhibit no evidence for maintenance of a functional NDH complex. Our data indicate that the NDH complex can be lost in photoautotrophic plant species. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of new-found RNA molecules that have a special covalent loop structure without a 5′ cap and 3′ tail. Researchers have found that circRNAs may be generated by intron-pairing-driven or lariat-driven circularization. They are cleared up by way of extracellular vesicles. They have some advantages such as stability, conservation, and tissue specificity. By serving as sponges of microRNAs, interacting with long non-coding RNAs, mRNA, or proteins, circRNAs regulate gene expression at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels and contribute to carcinogenesis. In recent years, circRNAs have been found to be correlated with many cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma, one of the most common cancers with high mortality. This article will first introduce the biogenesis, properties, and functions of circRNAs. Then we focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying some circRNAs, including hsa_circ_0001649, hsa_circ_0005075, and cerebellar degeneration-related protein 1 antisense, on hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis. Objective: The study is to examine the relationships between perceived initial cancer disclosure communication with doctors, levels of hope, and levels of trust in doctors among cancer patients in China.Methods: A total number of 192 cancer inpatients in a cancer hospital in China were surveyed. Perceived disclosure strategies, levels of hope, levels of trust in their doctors, as well as the demographic information were obtained from the participants.Results: In addition to age, patients who had higher levels of perceived emotional support from doctors, or higher levels of perceived personalized disclosure from doctors, or higher levels of perceived discussion of multiple treatment plans with doctors were more likely to have higher levels of trust in doctors. In addition to perceived health status, perceived emotional support from doctors significantly predicted participants' levels of hope. That is, patients who had higher higher levels of perceived doctors' emotional support were more likely to have higher levels of hope. Key disclosure person was a marginally significant variable, that is, patients who were mainly disclosed by family members might have higher levels of hope compared with patients who were mainly disclosed by doctors.Conclusions: When communicating with a cancer patient, doctors might not ignore the importance of emotional support during cancer diagnosis communication. Doctors might want to involve family and collaborate with family to find out ways of personalized disclosure. During the communication process, doctors could provide their patients with multiple treatment options and discuss the benefits and side effects of each treatment. The association behavior of an electron-donating, bowl-shaped, truxene-based tetrathiafulvalene (truxTTF) with two corannulene-based fullerene fragments, C32H12 and C38H14, is investigated in several solvents. Formation of 1:1 complexes is followed by absorption titrations and complemented by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The binding constants are in the range log Ka=2.9-3.5. DFT calculations reveal that the most stable arrangement is the conformation in which the 1,3-dithiole ring of truxTTF is placed inside the concave cavity of the corannulene derivative. This arrangement is confirmed experimentally by NMR measurements, and implies that a combination of π-π and CH-π interactions is the driving force for association. Time-dependent DFT calculations reproduce the experimental UV/Vis titrations and provide a detailed understanding of the spectral changes observed. Femtosecond transient absorption studies reveal the processes occurring after photoexcitation of either C32H12 or C38H14 and their supramolecular associates with truxTTF. Introduction: Although rare, some paroxysmal atrial fibrillations (AF) still progress despite radiofrequency (RF) ablation. In the study, we evaluated the long-term efficacy of RF ablation and the predictors of AF progression. Methods: A total of 589 paroxysmal AF patients (404 men and 185 women; aged 54 ± 12 years) who received 3-dimensional mapping and ablation were enrolled. Their clinical parameters and electrophysiological characteristics were collected. They were divided into Group 1 (N = 13, with AF progression) and Group 2 (N = 576, no AF progression). AF progression was defined as recurrence of persistent AF. Results: Group 1 patients had larger left atrial (LA) diameter, larger left ventricle (LV) end-systolic and end-diastolic diameters, poorer LV systolic function, and more amiodarone use at baseline. After 1.2 ± 0.5 procedures, 123 (21%) patients experienced recurrence during 56 ± 29 months' follow-up. In the multivariate analysis, LA diameter (P = 0.018, HR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.02-1.24) and LV end-systolic diameter (P=0.005, HR=1.10, 95% CI=1.03-1.17) independently predicted AF progression. LA diameter >43 mm and LV end-systolic diameter >31 mm were the best cut-off values for predicting AF progression by ROC analysis. AF progression rate achieved 19% if they had both larger LA diameter (>43 mm) and LV end-systolic diameter (>31 mm). Conclusion: RF ablation prevents the progression of paroxysmal AF effectively, except in patients with increased LA diameter and LV end-systolic diameter on echocardiogram, suggesting more aggressive rhythm control therapies should be considered in these patients. A new iron-sulfur cluster compound, namely [(μ-BNT)Fe2(CO)6] ( A; BNT = ( R)-1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-dithiol), was synthesized by self-assembly of BNT with [Fe3(CO)12] and characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, infrared spectra and elemental analysis. The H2 evolution activity of A was evaluated in a constructed homogeneous photocatalytic system by combining A as catalyst, xanthene dyes as photosensitizer and triethylamine as sacrificial reagent, to give efficient H2 generation under visible-light irradiation ( λ > 420 nm). The maximum H2 evolution of 404 turnovers (versus catalyst) was recorded under optimal conditions in CH3CN-H2O (1:1, v/v) after 4 h irradiation. The syntheses, structures, and physical properties of a full series of benzannulated tetraphenylenes are reported. The palladium-catalyzed annulation of tetraiodo-substituted 2,3,6,7,10,11,14,15-octamethyltetraphenylene with insufficient di(4-anisyl)ethyne yielded a mixture of per-substituted [8]circulene and its non-planar fragments, including mono-, para-di-, ortho-di-, and triannulated products. Their structures were unambiguously verified by X-ray crystallography. Successive benzannulations significantly affect the molecular geometries, dynamic behaviors, and physical properties of the compounds. In this series of compounds, [8]circulene is the most strained one, as reflected by the significant deplanarization of the phenanthrene moieties (ca. 63° in the bay region) and the fact that it has the highest strain energy (120.6 kcal mol−1). The dynamic behaviors of these compounds were examined both experimentally and theoretically. The ring flipping of per-substituted [8]circulene is confirmed to proceed through pseudorotation with a barrier of around 21 kcal mol−1, whereas its non-planar fragments require much more energy for the ring inversion. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of the investigated compounds depend strongly on the extent of efficient π conjugation. Background: Virus inactivation of plasma products is conducted using stainless-steel vessels. Single-use technology can offer significant benefits over stainless such as operational flexibility, reduced capital infrastructure costs, and increased efficiency by minimizing the time and validation requirements associated with hardware cleaning. This study qualifies a single-use bag system for solvent/detergent (S/D) virus inactivation.Study Design and Methods: Human plasma and immunoglobulin test materials were S/D-treated in Mobius single-use bags using 1% tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP) with 1% Triton X-100 or 1% Tween 80 at 31°C for 4 to 6 hours to evaluate the impact on protein quality. Volatile and nonvolatile organic leachables from low-density polyethylene film (Pureflex film) used in 1-L-scale studies after exposure to S/D in phosphate-buffered saline were identified compared to controls in glass containers. Virus inactivation studies were performed with xenotropic murine leukemia virus (XMuLV) and bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) to determine the kinetics of virus inactivation, measured using infectivity assays.Results: S/D treatment in Mobius bags did not impact the protein content and profile of plasma and immunoglobulin, including proteolytic enzymes and thrombin generation. Cumulative leachable levels after exposure to S/D were 1.5 and 1.85 ppm when using 0.3% TnBP combined with 1% Tween 80 or 1% Triton X-100, respectively. Efficient inactivation of both XMuLV and BVDV was observed, with differences in the rate of inactivation dependent on both virus and S/D mixture.Conclusion: Effective S/D virus inactivation in single-use container technology is achievable. The theory of spatial thinking is relevant to the learning and teaching of many academic domains. One promising method to facilitate learners' higher-order thinking is to utilize a web map mind tool to assist learners in applying spatial thinking to cooperative problem solving. In this study, an environment is designed based on the theory of spatial thinking and developed to help learners engage in project-based learning that utilizes the proposed web map mind tool for tour planning. The participants were 66 college students, and a quasi-experimental research design was employed. This study examined the differences in the learning performance and project performance between participants using the web map mind tool (the experimental group) and ordinary Internet search engines (the control group). The results indicate the experimental group performed significantly better than the control group in terms of both learning performance and project performance. In addition, we found that the students in the two groups held a positive learning attitude toward the project activity of tour planning. In terms of students' attitude toward the use of a mind tool, this study only conducted a survey for the experimental group. A crystalline coordination polymer (CP) photocatalyst (Cu-RSH) which combines redox-active copper centers with photoactive rhodamine-derived ligands remains stable in acid and basic solutions from pH 2 to 14, and efficiently catalyzes dihydrogen evolution at a maximum rate of 7.88 mmol g−1 h−1 in the absence of a mediator and a co-catalyst. Cyclic voltammetry, control experiments, and DFT calculations established that copper nodes with open coordination sites and favorable redox potentials, aided by spatially ordered stacking of rhodamine-based linkers, account for the high catalytic performance of Cu-RSH. Emission quenching, time-resolved fluorescence decay, and transient photocurrent experiments disclosed the charge separation and transfer process in the catalytic system. Orchids exhibit a range of unique flower shapes and are a valuable ornamental crop. MADS-box transcription factors are key regulatory components in flower initiation and development. Changing the flower shape and flowering time can increase the value of the orchid in the ornamental horticulture industry. In this study, 28 MADS-box genes were identified from the transcriptome database of the model orchid Erycina pusilla. The full-length genomic sequences of these MADS-box genes were obtained from BAC clones. Of these, 27 were MIKC-type EpMADS (two truncated forms) and one was a type I EpMADS. Eleven EpMADS genes contained introns longer than 10 kb. Phylogenetic analysis classified the 24 MIKCc genes into nine subfamilies. Three specific protein motifs, AG, FUL and SVP, were identified and used to classify three subfamilies. The expression profile of each EpMADS gene correlated with its putative function. The phylogenetic analysis was highly correlated with the protein domain identification and gene expression results. Spatial expression of EpMADS6, EpMADS12 and EpMADS15 was strongly detected in the inflorescence meristem, floral bud and seed via in situ hybridization. The subcellular localization of the 28 EpMADS proteins was also investigated. Although EpMADS27 lacks a complete MADS-box domain, EpMADS27-YFP was localized in the nucleus.
