Purpose: To examine how robot‐enabled focus on professional task engagement and robot‐reduced nonprofessional task engagement are related to nurses' professional turnover intention. Design: We adopted a two‐wave study design. Methods: We collected the first wave of data in a large hospital in Taiwan during October and November 2019 and the second wave between December 2019 and February 2020. We used the data collected from 331 nurses who participated in both waves. Findings: We found that robot‐enabled focus on professional task engagement is positively related to nurses' overall job satisfaction and perceived health improvement. Robot‐reduced nonprofessional task engagement is positively related to nurses' perceived health improvement. Both overall job satisfaction and perceived health improvement are negatively related to nurses' professional turnover intention. Conclusions: Robots' ability to focus nurses' efforts in professional tasks may help improve nurses' health and overall job satisfaction, and by extension reduce their turnover intention. Clinical Relevance: Nurse managers could suggest hospitals introduce robots, particularly those that can share nurses' nonprofessional workload. The aim of this study was to explore how hemodialysis patients' quality of life is related to sociodemographic data and depression as predicting variables, and how it is affected by fatigue as a mediating variable. Participants were 405 patients who has been receiving hemodialysis treatment regularly. SPSS Amos path analysis was used to explore the causal relationship and the mediating effect of fatigue among the variables of sociodemographic characteristics, depression, and quality of life. Unstandardized estimates determined that while sociodemographic characteristics were a significant predictor of fatigue, they were not directly related to quality of life. The results showed that depression and fatigue in patients receiving hemodialysis are important factors that affect patients' quality of life to a greater (fatigue) or lesser (depression) extent. Depression can affect patients' quality of life either directly or indirectly via fatigue. In this study, we demonstrated that fatigue plays an important role in the relationships among sociodemographic characteristics, depression, and quality of life in patients receiving hemodialysis. The results of the study further suggest that comprehensive management programs should be applied with patients to reduce their fatigue, and ultimately to improve their quality of life. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of caring behaviours on critical thinking and to examine whether self‐reflection mediates the effect of caring on critical thinking. We also tested whether caring behaviours moderated the relationship between self‐reflection and critical thinking. Methods: For this descriptive, correlational, cross‐sectional study, we recruited 293 fifth‐year nursing students from a junior college in southern Taiwan. Data were collected in 2014 on critical thinking, caring behaviours and self‐reflection with insight using the Taiwan Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory, a Chinese version of the Caring Assessment Report Evaluation Q‐sort, and a Chinese version of the Self‐Reflection and Insight Scale, respectively. Relationships among variables were analysed by structural equation modelling, with the partial least squares method and Sobel test. Results: The results showed that caring behaviours significantly positively affected critical thinking (β = 0.56, t = 12.37, p < 0.001) and self‐reflection with insight (β = 0.54, t = 11.99, p < 0.001). Self‐reflection and insight significantly positively affected critical thinking (β = 0.34, t = 6.48, p < 0.001). Further, self‐reflection and insight mediated the relationship between caring behaviours and critical thinking. Caring behaviours did not, however, moderate the relationship between self‐reflection (β = 0.001, t = 0.021, p > 0.05) and critical thinking. Conclusion: Caring behaviours directly affect self‐reflection with insight and critical thinking. Purpose This study aimed to (a) test the fit of the hypothesized model for new nurses' intent to leave and (b) determine the extent to which personal characteristics, work conditions, and work-related fatigue predict intent to leave among new nurses. Design and Methods This study was a cross-sectional survey study. A total of 162 new nurses were recruited. A hypothesized model was proposed for model testing. Structural equation modelling was used for data analysis. Findings Work conditions only had an effect through work-related fatigue on new nurses' intent to leave. Personal characteristics did not have a significant effect on new nurses' intent to leave. The final model showed a good fit. Work-related fatigue, work conditions, and health explained 65% of the variance in new nurses' intent to leave. Conclusions Work-related fatigue was a major determinant of new nurses' intent to leave. More attention should be paid to fatigue reduction strategies among new nurses. Clinical Relevance Work-related fatigue should be monitored, particularly for new nurses who work more than 10 hr per day and who have greater workloads. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Most previous studies on the relationship between occupational burnout and the quality of care among nurses have used self‐reported data on the quality of care from nurses, thus rendering evaluating the relationship between burnout and the quality of care difficult. Hospitals increasingly hire contract nurses and high turnover rates remain a concern. Little is known about whether nurses' emotional intelligence and demographic factors such as contract status, tenure, and marital status affect the quality of care when burnout occurs. This study investigated the relationship between burnout and patient‐rated quality of care and investigated the moderating role of emotional intelligence and demographic variables. Methods: Hierarchical moderated regression was used to analyze 98 sets of paired data obtained from nurses and their patients at a teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. Results: The results suggest that occupational burnout has a less unfavorable effect on the quality of care from permanent, married, and senior nurses. Conclusion: Nursing management should pay particular attention to retaining permanent, married, and senior nurses. To ensure a sustainable nursing workforce in the future, newly graduated registered nurses should have access to permanent positions and opportunities for long‐term professional development. To determine the factors of learning effectiveness in English vocabulary learning when using a calibration scheme, this study developed a freshman English mobile device application (for i Phone 4) for students with low levels of English proficiency to practise vocabulary in the beginning of their Freshman English course. Data were collected and validated from 243 subjects for confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The findings revealed that Internet cognitive failure (i.e., trait cognitive disability) was positively correlated to Internet cognitive fatigue (i.e., state cognitive disability). Both types of Internet cognitive disability were negatively correlated to self-regulation in English vocabulary learning ( SREVL). SREVL was positively correlated to the degree of learning improvement. The findings implied that the use of a calibration design for mobile English vocabulary learning could benefit students with low levels of Internet cognitive disability but high levels of SREVL. Objective Metabolic syndrome and depression are both thought to be associated with cognitive impairment in the elderly. Metabolic syndrome is also correlated with depression. We examined their possible pathways in a population-based sample. Methods We recruited 300 older community participants from Southern Taiwan. Demographics, medical history, severity of depressive symptoms, cognitive function, apolipoprotein genotyping, and lipid profile were collected. The presence of metabolic syndrome was confirmed with the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program's Adult Treatment Panel. Possible relationships between metabolic syndrome, depressive symptoms, and cognitive dysfunction were explored using logistic regression and structured equation modelling. Results When gender, age, education, marital status, and apolipoprotein genotype were adjusted for logistic regression, metabolic syndrome and depressive symptoms were independent and significant predictors of cognitive dysfunction for community-dwelling elderly. In structural equation modelling, metabolic syndrome and depressive symptoms were correlated to each other, and both contributed to the presence of cognitive dysfunction. Aim Sexual self-efficacy plays an important role in adolescents' sexual health. The aim of this study was to test a cause-and-effect model of sexual self-concept and sexual risk cognition toward sexual self-efficacy in adolescents. Methods The study was a cross-sectional survey. Using a random sampling method, a total of 713 junior nursing students were invited to participate in the study, and 465 valid surveys were returned, resulting in a return rate of 65.2%. The data was collected using an anonymous mailed questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was used to test the relationships among sexual self-concept, sexual risk cognition, and sexual self-efficacy, as well as the mediating role of sexual risk cognition. Results The results revealed that the postulated model fits the data well. Sexual self-concept significantly predicted sexual risk cognition and sexual self-efficacy. Sexual risk cognition significantly predicted sexual self-efficacy and had a mediating effect on the relationship between sexual self-concept and sexual self-efficacy. Conclusion Based on social cognitive theory and a structural equation model technique, this study confirmed the mediating role of sexual risk cognition in the relationship between sexual self-concept and sexual self-efficacy. Also, sexual self-concept's direct and indirect effects explaining adolescents' sexual self-efficacy were found in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Well-being is an important indicator of an individual's quality of life, especially for retired people. In the present study, we investigated the psychological well-being ( PWB) of retired Taipei ( Taiwan) older people and its associations with sex, family relationships, and health status. A structured questionnaire was used to measure demographics, family relationships, and perceived health status, as well as Ryff's PWB Scales. Data were analyzed from 268 retired olderpeople recruited from social service centres and public parks from September to November 2010. The Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes model demonstrated a very good fit of Ryff's PWB Scales and their relations to sex, family relationships, and perceived health status. The link with PWB was stronger for family relationships than for perceived health. The Mandarin translation of Ryff's PWB Scales was found to be suitable and easy to administer to Taiwanese olderpeople. The findings suggest that nurses should note that improving family relations will facilitate the PWB of retired olderpeople, which results in better outcomes of care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
