The hip cartilage and labrum, as the main targets of femoroacetabular impingement, sports‐related or traumatic damage, as well as congenital and developmental abnormalities, have attracted increasing attention with the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and hip arthroscopy. MRI is a commonly used imaging modality to noninvasively visualize the hip cartilage and labral lesions. However, conventional orthogonal MRI planes encounter unique challenges given the ball‐and‐socket configuration of the hip joint, its anatomically abducted and anteverted orientation, and the thin, closely apposed cartilage enveloping the femoral head and acetabulum. Advancements in hip MRI's radial plane, which is acquired through the center of the hip joint, offer a solution. This technology provides true cross‐sectional images of the cartilage and labrum perpendicular to the curvature of the joint, thereby mitigating the partial‐volume‐averaging effects. The integration of 3.0‐Tesla high field strength and three‐dimensional (3D) acquisition techniques further enhances the capabilities of the radial plane. This combination yields a high signal‐to‐noise ratio, high spatial resolution, high contrast between intraarticular structures, while minimizing partial‐volume‐averaging effects. Such improvements potentially facilitate the comprehensive detection of even minor chondral and labral lesions. The capability for multiplanar reconstruction from a single 3D volumetric acquisition further strengthens the usefulness of the radial plane by aiding in precise localization of hip cartilage and labral lesions, in line with hip arthroscopy findings. These advancements have the potential to standardize MRI evaluations and radiographic reporting systems for hip cartilage and labrum, offering precise guidance for hip arthroscopy. This article presents a comprehensive review of radial plane technology applied to the hip MRI, and discusses the morphological assessment and localization of hip cartilage and labral lesions utilizing this advanced imaging technique. Aim: The retina and brain share similar anatomical and physiological features. Thus, retinal imaging by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) might be a potential tool for the early diagnosis of diabetic cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). In this study, we aimed to evaluate retinal vascular density (VD) in diabetic CSVD by OCTA imaging and explore the associations between retinal VD and cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) markers and cognitive function. Methods: In total, 131 patients were enrolled, including CSVD (n = 43) and non‐CSVD groups (n = 88). The VD and foveal avascular zone of the retinal capillary plexus were measured with OCTA. A brain MRI was performed. Results: MRI imaging showed that in the diabetic CSVD group, white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), particularly deep WMHs (58.82%), are the most common MRI marker, followed by cerebral microbleeds in the subtentorial and cortical areas (34.78%). The CSVD group showed increases in the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction (p =.034) and depression (p =.033) and decreases in visuospatial/executive ability and delayed recall ability. In the CSVD group, VDs of the macular superficial vascular plexus (32.93 ± 7.15% vs. 36.97 ± 6.59%, p =.002), intermediate capillary plexus (20.87 ± 4.30% vs. 23.08 ± 4.30%, p =.005) and deep capillary plexus (23.54 ± 5.00% vs. 26.05 ± 4.20%, p =.003) were lower than those of the non‐CSVD group. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that VD of the macular superficial vascular plexus was independently associated with cerebral microbleeds. Meanwhile, VD of the macular intermediate capillary plexus was associated with white matter lacunar infarcts after adjustment. Conclusions: Diabetic CSVDs are characterized by MRI markers, including deep WMHs and cerebral microbleeds, and showed impaired cognition with decreased visuospatial/executive ability and delayed recall ability. OCTA imaging revealed a significant decrease in retinal microvascular perfusion in diabetic CSVD, which was related to MRI markers and cognitive function. Background: Mitral regurgitation may occur when hypertension causes left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) remodeling. However, its role in LA function in hypertensive patients remains unclear. Purpose: To explore how mitral regurgitation affects LA function in hypertension and to investigate atrioventricular interaction in hypertensive patients with mitral regurgitation. Study Type: Retrospective. Population: A total of 193 hypertensive cases and 64 controls. Field Strength/Sequence: A 3.0 T/balanced steady‐state free precession. Assessment: LA volume (LAV), LA strain (reservoir, conduit, and active), LA ejection fraction, and LV strain (global peak longitudinal [GLS], circumferential [GCS], and radial strain [GRS]) were evaluated and compared among groups. Regurgitant fraction (RF) was evaluated in regurgitation patients and used to subdivide patients into mild (RF: 0%–30%), moderate (RF: 30%–50%), and severe (RF: >50%) regurgitation categories. Statistical Tests: One‐way analysis of variance, Spearman and Pearson's correlation coefficients (r), and multivariable linear regression analysis. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Hypertensive patients without mitral regurgitation showed significantly impaired LA reservoir and conduit functions and significantly decreased LV GLS but preserved pump function and LAV compared to controls (P = 0.193–1.0). Hypertensive cases with mild regurgitation (N = 22) had significantly enlarged LAV and further reduced LA reservoir function, while the group with moderate regurgitation (N = 20) showed significantly reduced LA pump function, further impaired conduit function, and significantly reduced LV strain. The severe regurgitation (N = 13) group demonstrated significantly more severely impaired LA and LV functions and LAV enlargement. Multivariable linear regression showed that regurgitation degree, GRS, GCS, and GLS were independently correlated with the LA reservoir, conduit, and active strain in hypertensive patients with mitral regurgitation. Data Conclusion: Mitral regurgitation may exacerbate LA and LV impairment in hypertension. Regurgitation degree, LV GRS, GCS, and GLS were independent determinants of the LA strain in hypertensive patients with mitral regurgitation, which demonstrated atrioventricular interaction. Purpose: It is challenging for radiologists and gynecologists to identify the type of ovarian lesions by reading magnetic resonance (MR) images. Recently developed convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have made great progress in computer vision, but their architectures still need modification if they are used in processing medical images. This study aims to improve the feature extraction capability of CNNs, thus promoting the diagnostic performance in discriminating between benign and malignant ovarian lesions. Methods: We introduce a feature fusion architecture and insert the attention models in the neural network. The features extracted from different middle layers are integrated with reoptimized spatial and channel weights. We add a loss function to constrain the additional probability vector generated from the integrated features, thus guiding the middle layers to emphasize useful information. We analyzed 159 lesions imaged by dynamic contrast‐enhanced MR imaging (DCE‐MRI), including 73 benign lesions and 86 malignant lesions. Senior radiologists selected and labeled the tumor regions based on the pathology reports. Then, the tumor regions were cropped into 7494 nonoverlapping image patches for training and testing. The type of a single tumor was determined by the average probability scores of the image patches belonging to it. Results: We implemented fivefold cross‐validation to characterize our proposed method, and the distribution of performance matrics was reported. For all the test image patches, the average accuracy of our method is 70.5% with an average area under the curve (AUC) of 0.785, while the baseline is 69.4% and 0.773, and for the diagnosis of single tumors, our model achieved an average accuracy of 82.4% and average AUC of 0.916, which were better than the baseline (81.8% and 0.899). Moreover, we evaluated the performance of our proposed method utilizing different CNN backbones and different attention mechanisms. Conclusions: The texture features extracted from different middle layers are crucial for ovarian lesion diagnosis. Background: Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) is absent in many patients with suspected myocarditis and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LV‐EF), which poses difficulties in diagnosis and risk stratification. Purpose To investigate the diagnostic and prognostic value of ventricular myocardial strain in patients with suspected myocarditis, preserved LV‐EF, and negative Lake Louis Criteria (LLC) by comparing the findings in LGE negative and LGE positive patients. Study Type: Retrospective. Population A total of 108 patients with clinically suspected myocarditis who did not satisfy LLC were divided into LGE negative (N = 65) and LGE positive (N = 43) groups. A control group consisted of 50 healthy volunteers. Field Strength/Sequence: Steady‐state free precession cine and phase‐sensitive inversion recovery segmented gradient echo LGE sequences at 3.0 T. Assessment Myocardial strain of the ventricles was evaluated by feature tracking, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were assessed during follow‐up since the date of magnetic resonance examination. Statistical Tests: Independent‐samples t test, Mann–Whitney U test, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, and Cox proportional hazard regression were performed. A P‐value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Cardiac function and myocardial deformability were impaired in all patients relative to controls. Left ventricular‐global radial (LV‐GRS), circumferential (LV‐GCS), and longitudinal (LV‐GLS) strain had diagnostic value, even in LGE negative patients (sensitivity = 0.446, 0.523, and 0.662; specificity = 0.92, 0.80, and 0.64; AUC = 0.685, 0.675, and 0.648, respectively). After a median follow‐up of 530.5 (interquartile range: 168.5–969.25) days, MACE occurred in 18 (16.67%) patients. Right ventricular GLS showed prognostic value in all patients and in LGE negative patients, both in univariable analysis (hazard ratio [HR] 1.049, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.001–1.099 and HR 1.068, 95% CI 1.011–1.127, respectively) and in multivariable Cox survival analysis. LV‐GLS was associated with MACE in LGE positive patients in multivariable Cox survival analysis. Data Conclusion: Myocardial strain provides diagnostic and prognostic value in suspected myocarditis with preserved LV‐EF, even in the absence of LGE. The coexist of primary angiosarcoma and thrombosis is a rare clinical entity. A 46‐year‐old male was presented with multiple right atrial (RA) masses. Two different vascular patterns in these masses were identified by contrast echocardiography. The possibility of coexistence of malignant tumors and thrombus in RA was implicated, which was further confirmed by computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography/computer tomography, and pathologic examination. Currently, the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with esophageal carcinoma is limited. However, the quality of MRI for esophageal carcinoma continues to improve and the importance of MRI in patients with esophageal carcinoma has been gradually recognized. Compared with endoscopic ultrasound and computed tomography applied in T and N staging, MRI has now achieved excellent results after the imaging technique has been optimized. We review the literature on MRI and discuss the future of MRI in esophageal carcinoma. While the role of MRI in staging, tumor volume target delineation and evaluation for preoperative chemoradiotherapy, prognosis and recurrence is still evolving. Background: Preoperative accurate judgment of aggressiveness is of great importance to determine treatment and prognosis of bladder cancers.Purpose: To evaluate the utility of IVIM-MRI parameters in predicting aggressiveness of bladder urothelial carcinoma.Study Type: Prospective.Population Model: Sixty-seven patients with bladder urothelial cancer.Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/T2WI and IVIM-MRI.Assessment: All cases were categorized in low-, intermediate-, or high-aggressiveness proposed by Kobayashi depending on the T stage and pathological grade. Images analysis and IVIM-derived parameters (apparent diffusion coefficient standard ADC, true diffusion coefficient D, pseudodiffusion coefficient D*, and perfusion fraction f) measurements were performed independently by two radiologists.Statistical Tests: Comparisons of IVIM-derived parameters in different aggressiveness levels were performed using one-way analysis of variance or Kruskal-Wallis test. Binary logistic regression models were used to calculate predicted probability of combined parameters. Diagnostic performance of individual and combined parameters for distinguishing high- from low-/intermediate-aggressiveness was assessed by using the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve.Results: The ADC and D values differed significantly among low-, intermediate-, and high-aggressive urothelial bladder carcinoma, respectively (P < 0.05). The f value showed significant differences between low- and high-aggressive and between intermediate- and high-aggressive bladder carcinoma (P < 0.05). The best parameter for differentiating high- from low-/intermediate-aggressive urothelial bladder carcinoma was ADC value, with the area under ROC curve (AUC) and accuracy of 0.895 and 85.97%, followed by f and D values with AUCs of 0.873 and 0.862, respectively. The best combination of parameters was combined D and f values, with AUC and accuracy of 0.931 and 91.82%.Data Conclusion: ADC value showed slightly better diagnostic performance than D and f values in predicting bladder cancer aggressiveness.
