Late‐Victorian and Edwardian Popular Conservatism is now mainly seen as a cultural‐ideological form, and this article aims to reconstruct one aspect of this ethos by focusing on the use of sport, especially horse racing, as a means of political differentiation and a method of attracting a new mass electorate to the Tory cause. The sporting paper focusing on horse racing was one way of doing this. Weeklies like the Sporting Times and the Winning Post tried to sell high Tory ideals to a mass electorate and thereby to knit together an older aristocratic party with newer urban, white‐collar, and working‐class voters. The political outgrowth of this element of popular conservatism was the Sporting League (established 1894) and also the later National Sporting League (1905). Both of these organisations took aim at Radical Liberals, and especially their attempt to restrict betting, and did so by exerting pressure at national and local elections from 1895 to 1914. Some of those involved with the Sporting Leagues and the racing paper became Conservative candidates. Although it is difficult to estimate the actual electoral impact of both Sporting Leagues, they nevertheless created a political style that might have a broad appeal, especially to a white‐collar class and working people. The article examines the rise of inequalities in developed countries and challenges the effectiveness of post-war redistribution policies in reducing these inequalities. It discusses philosopher John Rawls's critique of welfare state capitalism (WSC) and his proposal for a property-owning democracy (POD) as an alternative. The article explores criticisms of both WSC and Rawls's proposal, highlighting the importance of fighting inequalities to strengthen democratic societies. The airport line plays an important role in the airport landside traffic connection, which greatly relieves the urban road pressure. Studying the characteristics and laws of the time and space distribution of the airport line passenger flow will provide basic support for the airport line's capacity configuration, passenger flow control, and air‐track coordinated operation, and will also provide quantitative basis for the layout of urban terminal buildings. This paper proposes a method to analyse the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of airport line passenger flow based on AFC card swiping data. By mining and extracting the travel behaviour data of subway airport line air passengers, the distribution characteristics of airport line passenger flow are analysed and visualized from two aspects of passenger travel time and space. Finally, a case study is carried out based on the actual data of Daxing airport express. The results show that: (1) the travel time of departure and return passengers is concentrated in 60–90 min; (2) The departure and arrival points of passengers are concentrated within the Fourth Ring Road, and a large number of air passenger flows are gathered and evacuated at hubs such as Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station. Periodontitis is a dysbiosis‐driven inflammatory disease affecting the tooth‐supporting tissues, characterized by their progressive resorption, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss. A step‐wise therapeutic approach is employed for periodontitis. After an initial behavioral and non‐surgical phase, intra‐bony or furcation defects may be amenable to regenerative procedures. This review discusses the regenerative technologies employed for periodontal regeneration, highlighting the current limitations and future research areas. The search, performed on the MEDLINE database, has identified the available biomaterials, including biologicals (autologous platelet concentrates, hydrogels), bone grafts (pure or putty), and membranes. Biologicals and bone grafts have been critically analyzed in terms of composition, mechanism of action, and clinical applications. Although a certain degree of periodontal regeneration is predictable in intra‐bony and class II furcation defects, complete defect closure is hardly achieved. Moreover, treating class III furcation defects remains challenging. The key properties required for functional regeneration are discussed, and none of the commercially available biomaterials possess all the ideal characteristics. Therefore, research is needed to promote the advancement of more effective and targeted regenerative therapies for periodontitis. Lastly, improving the design and reporting of clinical studies is suggested by strictly adhering to the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) 2010 statement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cypress bark beetle, Phloeosinus aubei, is of increasing concern in the European market of scale‐leafed conifers. Neither the reproductive behaviour nor the chemical ecology have been studied in detail so far, and no specific attractant traps are available to monitor the flight of adults. We established that stridulation by males is crucial for acceptance by calling females. To unravel the chemical communication, hindgut extracts from unmated females were analysed by GC‐EAD, using male antennae. Gut extracts and Thuja occidentalis leaf extracts were analysed by GC/MS. Two antennally active compounds from gut extracts were identified as (−)‐myrtenol and (−)‐α‐pinene by enantioselective GC/MS. (−)‐Myrtenol was shown to be female‐specific, while (−)‐α‐pinene was found as a 2:1 mixture with the (+)‐enantiomer also among the volatiles of the host tree, T. occidentalis. To prove that the production of the above compounds in the beetles is related to reproduction, we treated females with JHIII. The gut extracts from these sexually mature females showed elevated levels of (−)‐α‐pinene compared to untreated control groups. Synthetic enantiomers of myrtenol and α‐pinene were tested separately by electroantennography, and all were found to be electrophysiologically active. The attractiveness of different mixtures of these compounds was compared using 4‐arm olfactometer tests: 4:1 mixtures of racemic α‐pinene with either (−)‐ or (+)‐myrtenol were significantly attractive to males and females, respectively. In field tests, multifunnel traps baited with a 5:1 mixture of (−)‐α‐pinene and (−)‐myrtenol caught significantly more males and females than unbaited control traps. We concluded that (−)‐α‐pinene and (−)‐myrtenol are components of a female‐produced aggregation pheromone. EAD activity and behaviour assays indicated that α‐pinene from Thuja is used by the beetles as part of a host plant kairomone. Boron carbide is a notable ceramic, with its high hardness and low density. However, it suffers a sudden loss in strength under high shear stress. Doping boron carbide with Si/B is widely used to increase its resistance to amorphization. High purity boron and silicon hexaboride precursor powders are used for doping boron carbide, but these materials have high costs and supply chain constraints. This research investigated the effect of substituting lower purity B or using pure Si powder instead of SiB6 on materials' properties such as elastic and mechanical properties, microstructure, and amorphization resistances. It was observed that using lower‐purity boron or pure Si powder instead of SiB6 did not significantly affect critical properties, such as fracture toughness, hardness, or amorphization resistance. However, Young's modulus values decreased as B purity decreased and as Si was used instead of SiB6. These findings demonstrate that substituting precursor materials in Si/B co‐doped B4C is possible with little change in the material's properties. This facilitates the use of easier‐to‐access, cheaper production routes to be used for silicon‐doped boron carbide products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, oil was extracted from black cumin (Nigella sativa) seed (BCS) by press, and oil was extracted from the obtained cake with a solvent. The changes in the quality of both crude oils obtained by pressing and by solvent were investigated during refining. Findings revealed that the p‐anisidin value (p‐AV) and fatty acid profile did not change significantly, but there were significant differences (p <.05) in the peroxide value (PV), reflective index, pigment contents, free fatty acid content (FFA%), and antioxidant activity (total phenol content (TPC), thymoquinone, and DPPH inhibition) of BCS oils obtained by the two different methods. PV and FFA decreased to less than 15 meqO2/kg and 0.3%, respectively, in the refined oil. The TPC (65%), thymoquinone (45–97%), carotenoids (86–89%), and chlorophyll (75–85%) were removed from BCS oil, but the DPPH value was raised by about 33%. The current study gives a clear picture of the changes during refining in BCS oil, which can be a useful guide in food applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The blurred distinction between freedom of expression and hate speech in ever more polarised public debates across Europe and beyond has prompted research on hate speech, particularly focusing on right‐wing populist politicians. Little is known, however, about how this distinction is construed by ordinary citizens. Deploying the concept of retrogressive mobilisation, this study examines how cases of (potential) political hate speech – one targeting racialised minorities, the other the LGBTQ+ community – are interpreted and negotiated by ordinary citizens through their comments on online news in Finland. Deploying a critical discursive psychological approach, we analyse the vernacular meanings that ordinary citizens attach to the notions of political hate speech, thereby highlighting the dynamic relationship between political and everyday discourse. We evidence three discursive constructions of the relationship between freedom of expression and (potential) hate speech. In these constructions, the same rhetorical resources, especially the liberal arguments of equality and freedom of expression, were deployed to service the opposite discursive functions – that is, for both 'liberal' and 'illiberal' ends – to condemn and justify discrimination against minoritised groups. Our study contributes to the social psychological understanding of contemporary hate speech and builds a bridge between social psychology and the more recent field of anti‐gender research. Issue Addressed: While definitions of impact may vary, they often refer to the wider benefits of research evidenced beyond academia. We evaluated case studies featuring randomised trials from the 2018 Engagement and Impact Assessment to better understand how the impacts of health research are evidenced and assessed within Australia. Methods: We collated and evaluated 'high' scoring case studies submitted by higher education institutions with a focus on randomised trials across all areas of health research. A qualitative coding system was used for manual content analysis to assess the key characteristics of trials reported, subsequent impacts and the methods used to evidence impacts. Results: A total of 14 case studies were identified citing 35 clinical trials. The majority of interventions were behavioural with a focus on mental, behavioural or neurodevelopmental disorders. Most trials were phase III, focused on the treatment of the indication and were funded by industry. Contribution to clinical guidelines was the highest cited research impact. While there was evidence of researchers seeking to maximise trial impact, case studies lacked details on the role of trial participants and other beneficiaries in generating impact. Conclusions: The impacts of health research can be improved through a better understanding of the priorities and agendas of funders, providing evidence of tangible impact rather than information that is contextual or predictive, and through the early development of impact strategies involving both researchers and beneficiaries. Due to intense ash dieback, this research tested the bioactivity of Thymus vulgaris, Lavandula angustifolia, and Cupressus sempervirens essential oils (EO) against Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. In vitro testing showed that EOs had a pronounced fungitoxic effect on H. fraxineus. The most effective EO was extracted from T. vulgaris, while EOs obtained from L. angustifolia and C. sempervirens were less effective and showed the same effect. At a concentration of 1%, all tested EOs inhibited mycelial growth, while 0.01% and 0.1% concentrations of EO extracted from T. vulgaris also inhibited the growth of H. fraxineus. The in planta test of EO extracted from T. vulgaris conducted on three‐year‐old Fraxinus angustifolia seedlings showed a reduction in the size of necrotic lesions and a better crown condition compared to untreated seedlings. This research demonstrates, for the first time, the efficiency of EOs in suppressing ash dieback making a path for the development of new biological protection measures against H. fraxineus. Background: Paediatric critical care (PCC) physicians must perform several emergent procedures independently and competently—requiring transition from novice to competent over a 3‐year fellowship. However, skill acquisition is not uniform. Individualised training, adapted to the unique experiences and requirements of each trainee, may enhance competency. Approach: An individualised, longitudinal critical procedure course was initiated at a large academic paediatric medical centre in July 2022 for PCC fellows (n = 5). The course, informed by procedural performance profiles (P3) generated through real‐time clinical assessments in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), was split into three phases: (1) an Initial Simulation Bootcamp—a 2‐day introductory session; (2) Quarterly Structured Booster Sessions (QSBS)—spaced repetition of deliberate practice training individualised to each fellow; and (3) an Annual Refresher Training—a core skills and advanced technique training day. Evaluation: Fellows began with minimal experience, which formed their initial P3s. Ninety‐two percent (166/180) of bedside procedures received real‐time feedback, enabling longitudinal P3 modification, which identified focus areas for the QSBS. The sessions were well attended and received. Eighty‐nine percent (QSBS #1 5/5, QSBS #2 3/4) of respondents reflected positively on the course's impact on procedural understanding. The course was perceived as more effective than traditional modalities, except bedside training. Implication: Implementation of a spaced repetition, deliberate practice course informed by longitudinally tracked real‐life performance data is feasible for educators and preferred by trainees. Diagnoses of infectious diseases are being transformed as mass self‐testing using rapid antigen tests (RATs) is increasingly integrated into public health. Widely used during the COVID‐19 pandemic, RATs are claimed to have many advantages over 'gold‐standard' polymerase chain reaction tests, especially their ease of use and production of quick results. Yet, while laboratory studies indicate the value of RATs in detecting the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus antigen, uncertainty surrounds their deployment and ultimate effectiveness in stemming infections. This article applies the analytic lens of biological citizenship (or bio‐citizenship) to explore Australia's experience of implementing a RAT‐based mass self‐testing strategy to manage COVID‐19. Drawing on Annemarie Mol's (1999, The Sociological Review, 47(1), 74–89) concept of ontological politics and analysing government statements, scientific articles and news media reporting published during a critical juncture of the strategy's implementation, we explore the kind of bio‐citizenship implied by this strategy. Our analysis suggests the emergence of what we call liminal bio‐citizenship, whereby citizens are made responsible for self‐managing infection risk without the diagnostic certitude this demands. We discuss how the different realities of mass self‐testing interact to reinforce this liminal citizenship and consider the implications for the sociology of diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To investigate the potential associations between functional capacity, muscle strength, body composition, and disease‐related measures and quality of life in patients with myositis. Methods: Baseline measures of functional capacity (functional index 3 (FI3), 2‐minute walk test (2MWT), timed up and go (TUG) and 30‐s sit‐to‐stand (30‐STS)), muscle strength (incl. leg and handgrip strength), maximal leg extensor power, body composition (appendicular lean mass, fat percentage/mass) and disease‐related measures (disease activity & damage core sets) were examined for their associations with quality of life (physical‐ and mental component summary scores, Short Form 36 questionnaire (SF‐36)) by means of Spearman's correlation analysis. Results: A total of 32 patients with myositis were included. Positive correlations between SF‐36 physical component summary score (PCS) and FI3, 30‐STS, TUG, 2MWT, leg extensor power, leg strength, bench press strength, and handgrip strength were observed. In contrast, fat percentage and fat mass correlated negatively with PCS. In disease‐related measures, Extramuscular global assessment, health assessment questionnaire, physician global damage, and patient global damage scores were negatively associated with SF‐36 PCS. No correlations to the mental component summary score of SF‐36 were observed. Conclusion: All measures of functional capacity were positively related to the SF‐36 physical component summary score, indicating higher functional capacity positively affects quality of life in patients with myositis. Health assessment questionnaire and patient global damage scores demonstrated the strongest correlations with SF‐36 physical component summary scores, further supporting these patient‐reported outcomes as viable monitoring tools in patients with myositis. Background: Most of the shrimp side streams are discarded due to the lack of appropriate processing techniques/methodology for their utilization, which is not only a loss of potentially valuable compounds, but also leads to environmental pollution. The study aimed to employ a mechanical filter press to separate the liquid called press juice (PJ) and the solid named press cake (PC) fraction from shrimp head and shell (H&S). Results: The proximate composition was performed, including amino acids analysis, protein content, fatty acids, and the main volatile compounds. In the whole shrimp (WS), the average values of protein, lipid, dry matter, and ash content were recorded at 14.7%, 2.9%, 21.1%, and 4.8%, respectively. The protein percentage reached 10.1% in H&S, indicating considerable amount of protein leftover in the shrimp side streams (p < 0.05). The major PUFAs in WSs' sample were Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) (8.8%) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (7.8%). Furthermore, the values of EPA and DHA a showed nearly two‐folded increase after peeling and filter‐pressing, PC sample. Total amino acids in the WS, H&S, PJ, and PC samples were found to be 94.6, 67.7, 22.2, and 76.6 mg/g, respectively. From the nutritional point of view, non‐essential amino acids represented higher values (13.2%–56.9%) compared to essential amino acids (9.0%–37.6%). The major components of 5′‐neucleoitides in WS sample were in order of guanosine‐5′‐diphosphate (GDP) ≫ hypoxanthine (HYP) > inosine‐5′‐monophosphate (IMP) ≫ adenosine‐5′‐monophosphate (AMP) > adenosine‐5′‐diphosphate (ADP) with values of 684.4, 293.6, 201.4, 25.6 and 16.2 μg/g sample, while no inosine (INO), guanosine‐5′‐monophosphate (GMP), and guanosine‐5′‐triphosphate (GTP) were detected. Equivalent umami concentration (g MSC/100 g) was recorded as 0.63, 0.07 for WS and H&S samples and 0.015 for PJ sample, which indicates a significant drop from the shrimp raw material toward the side streams. Most volatile compounds belonged to alkenes followed by alkanes groups. Conclusion: This work showed the possibility to employ the filter press machine to obtain PJ and PC from shrimp H&S, after peeling processing. Background: To investigate the educational outcomes of siblings of childhood leukemia survivors, explore determinants of school difficulties, and compare the rates of repeating grades between siblings and the general population. Methods: A cross‐sectional study of childhood leukemia survivors' siblings recruited through the Leucémies de l'Enfant et de l'Adolescent cohort, a French long‐term follow‐up program, was conducted, and education‐related data were obtained via self‐report questionnaires. Adjusted logistic regression models were used to identify variables associated with school difficulties and time since diagnosis. Rates of repeating a grade in middle school were compared between siblings and the general population of the same generation. Results: A total of 564 siblings with a mean time from diagnosis of 14.1 ± 6.4 years were included, among whom 139 (24.6%) repeated a grade, at an average of 6.4 ± 4.5 years after diagnosis. In multivariate analysis, the risk factors for repeating a grade were older siblings (odds ratio [OR] 2.3, p = 0.006), family financial difficulties (OR 2.8, p = 0.008), and history of repetition in survivors (OR, 2.5, p = 0.001). Sibling hematopoietic stem cell donors were at greater risk of repeating a grade long‐term after diagnosis (p = 0.018). Overall, siblings did not have a higher risk of educational delays at the end of middle school than the general population. Conclusion: Although the results are reassuring, socioeconomic and cancer‐related factors may have an impact on siblings' schooling long after diagnosis. Paying attention to siblings contributes to identifying the most vulnerable families, allowing more attention and appropriate resources to avoid long‐term repercussions. This study examines how news images of refugees in the context of the war in Ukraine mobilize intergroup relations. A visual rhetorical analysis is used to examine the rhetorical strategies employed in news images of Ukrainian refugees in a mainstream Finnish national newspaper from February 25 to May 31, 2022. The data consisted of 465 images. The study constructed four humanizing visual rhetorical strategies based on the visual expression in news images: maternalizing, fragilizing, agonizing, and activizing. The rhetorical strategies constructed four subject positions for Ukrainian refugees: vulnerable victims, innocent victims, suffering Ukrainians, and persistent/resilient Ukrainians. All rhetorical strategies implicitly communicated the subject position of evil to Russia. The paper contributes to the current knowledge of the humanization of refugees in media discourse and the potential of media images to mobilize intergroup relations. Some meta‐analyses suggest that deprescribing may reduce mortality. Our aim was to determine the underlying factors contributing to this observed reduction. We analysed data from 12 randomized controlled trials included in the latest meta‐analysis on deprescribing in community‐dwelling older adults. Our analysis focused on deprescribed medications and potential methodological concerns. Only a third (4/12) of the trials aimed to study mortality, and that too as a secondary outcome. Five trials reported a reduction in total medications, potentially inappropriate medications or drug‐related problems. Information on specific classes of deprescribed medications was limited, although a wide array was concerned (e.g., antihypertensive, sedative, gastro‐intestinal medications and vitamins). Follow‐up periods were ≤1 year in 11 trials, and five trials included ≤150 participants. Small sample sizes often resulted in imbalanced groups (e.g., comorbidities, number of potentially inappropriate medications), yet no trials presented multivariable analyses. In the two trials with the most weight in the meta‐analysis, several deaths occurred before the intervention, making it difficult to draw conclusions about the impact of the deprescribing intervention on mortality. These methodological issues cast significant uncertainty on the benefits of deprescribing on mortality outcomes. Large‐scale, well‐designed trials are needed to address this issue effectively. Concurrent training has been postulated as an appropriate time‐efficient strategy to improve physical fitness, yet whether the exercise‐induced adaptations are similar in men and women is unknown. An unblinded randomized controlled trial was conducted to investigate sex‐specific dose–response effects of a 24‐week supervised concurrent exercise training program on cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength in young adults. One hundred and forty‐four sedentary adults aged 18–25 years were assigned to either (i) a control group (n = 54), (ii) a moderate intensity exercise group (MOD‐EX, n = 46), or (iii) a vigorous intensity exercise group (VIG‐EX, n = 44) by unrestricted randomization. Cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2max), hand grip strength, and one‐repetition maximum of leg press and bench press were evaluated at baseline and after the intervention. A total of 102 participants finished the intervention (Control, n = 36; 52% women, MOD‐EX, n = 37; 70% women, and VIG‐EX, n = 36; 72% women). In men, VO2max significantly increased in the MOD‐EX (~8%) compared with the control group and in the VIG‐EX group after the intervention (~6.5%). In women, VO2max increased in the MOD‐EX and VIG‐EX groups (~5.5%) compared with the control group after the intervention. There was a significant increment of leg press in the MOD‐EX (~15.5%) and VIG‐EX (~18%) groups compared with the control group (~1%) in women. A 24‐week supervised concurrent exercise was effective at improving cardiorespiratory fitness and lower body limbs muscular strength in young women—independently of the predetermined intensity—while only at moderate intensity improved cardiorespiratory fitness in men. The decline in local newspapers is leading to a local news 'desert', where there is little or no coverage of important local issues like policing, court cases and council politics. At present, the BBC attempts to fill some of the gap by paying for 'local democracy reporters' who work for private local media companies, but this creates tensions and is not a sustainable solution. This article argues that granting small local media organisations charitable status, as in the United States, would also be problematic. Instead, it advocates an independent 'Local Press Council'. Guinea‐Bissau, an important regional biodiversity hotspot in West Africa, faces the challenge of raising awareness among the general public about the significance of natural resources for rural communities' survival and the need for biodiversity conservation. This knowledge gap hinders conservation efforts as initiatives are deemed irrelevant or unnecessary. A climate of political vulnerability, financial uncertainty and threats to media freedom are further obstacles to conservation biology. Researchers lack established communication platforms for academic dissemination. In this paper, we introduce the initiative News for Nature/PRIMACTION (2020–2022), which aimed to establish a communication channel between researchers and media agents. The project had two primary objectives: firstly, to raise awareness among the Guinea‐Bissau society about the importance of national biodiversity and conservation challenges; and secondly, to enhance the capacity of specific communicators and opinion makers. The project had several important outputs, including: i) a bi‐monthly newspaper section focused on "biodiversity conservation in Guinea‐Bissau", ii) three radio‐theatre episodes performed by a well‐known group and broadcasted nationally, iii) one song composed and sung by famous musicians, with an introduction by Jane Goodall, and iv) a website providing technical resources for journalists covering biodiversity and conservation news. Collaborators mentioned the lack of logistical conditions for traveling in the country as a major impediment in reporting conservation‐related news. We emphasize the significance of establishing direct contact and articulation between researchers and local media to promote conservation research in West African countries. In countries where science communication and environmental education outreach are not well‐established, it is crucial to bridge the challenges faced by the communities in different regions of the same country. Objective: To investigate whether a Bayesian interpretation might help prevent misinterpretation of statistical findings and support authors to differentiate evidence of no effect from statistical uncertainty. Design: A Bayesian re‐analysis to determine posterior probabilities of clinically important effects (e.g., a large effect is set at a 4 percentage point difference and a trivial effect to be within a 0.5 percentage point difference). Posterior probabilities greater than 95% are considered as strong statistical evidence, and less than 95% as inconclusive. Sample: 150 major women's health trials with binary outcomes. Main Outcome Measures: Posterior probabilities of large, moderate, small and trivial effects. Results: Under frequentist methods, 48 (32%) were statistically significant (p‐value ≤ 0.05) and 102 (68%) statistically non‐significant. The frequentist and Bayesian point estimates and confidence intervals showed strong concordance. Of the statistically non‐significant trials (n = 102), the Bayesian approach classified the majority (94, 92%) as inconclusive, neither able to confirm or refute effectiveness. A small number of statistically non‐significant findings (8, 8%) were classified as having strong statistical evidence of an effect. Conclusions: Whilst almost all trials report confidence intervals, in practice most statistical findings are interpreted on the basis of statistical significance, mostly concluding evidence of no effect. During the slab sizing press (SP) process, the pressing force corresponds to the slab profile, which guides the production schedule design and the final profile control. To accomplish the prediction of pressing force for SP, an improved ensemble method based on chaotic Harris hawks optimizer (CHHO) and stacking is proposed. A mechanistic knowledge is introduced for feature selection that enhances the rationality of input features. Subsequently, 11 machine learning models are compared and 5 of them are selected as candidate learners for the stacking method. Based on the candidates learners, 8 stacking strategies are constructed, which the stacked model with extratree regressor, gradient boosted decision trees, and kernel ridge regression (KRR) as base‐learners and KRR as meta‐learner performs the best. The R2, MAE, mean square error, mean squared log error, and mean absolute percentage error for the test dataset are 0.9912, 0.0856, 0.0167, 0.0005, and 2.00%, respectively, and 95% of the prediction errors are less than 0.15 MN. Then, sensitivity analysis and predictive analysis based on Shapley Additive Explanations are performed to demonstrate the good alignment of the proposed model with physical reality. Furthermore, to cope with the complexity and uncertainty of the production process, the proposed CHHO‐stacking model and the kernel density estimation method are integrated to model the prediction interval. After the US‐led invasion of Iraq, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) appeared to be on a path toward consolidation of liberal democracy. While the rest of Iraq drifted into chaos and civil war, the KRI remained quiescent and was for many years hailed by outsiders as: "a beacon of hope", "an oasis of stability and democracy". The region adopted the principles of press freedoms, religious tolerance, and good governance to conform with United States (US) and western incentives. The adoption of procedural democracy, however, concealed an underlying system of rigid social regulation based on a two‐party power sharing agreement that resisted democratization while appropriating its parlance and institutional structures. The government's resistance to liberalization along with its lack of resilience to political and economic shocks promoted popular disillusionment with the Kurdish nation‐building project with the region's dominant political parties at the center. In response, the ruling parties have sought to exert influence through alternatives to the democratic process that reinforce partisan rule. This article argues that economic crisis and austerity have precipitated the expansion in the scope of dissent and hastened the demise of the power sharing arrangement in the KRI. The ruling political parties have since employed a variety of undemocratic means to manage popular grievances. Background: Access to reliable and credible health information improves individuals' personal care level in crises, such as the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19) pandemic. It subsequently results in enhancing the community's health and reducing the health system's costs. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the COVID- 19 related information seeking behaviour demonstrated by citizens in Isfahan, Iran. Methods: This research was conducted in 2020 and employed a qualitative approach using conventional content analysis. The research population was selected from almost different social classes of people in Iran using purposive sampling. The saturation point was reached at 24 semi- structured interviews. The data's soundness was confirmed based on the criteria of credibility, confirmability, dependability and transferability proposed by Guba and Lincoln. Results: The findings revealed five subcategories and 25 codes within the information seeking behaviour. The subcategories included attitude towards the COVID- 19 crisis, information needs, information resources, information validation and information seeking barriers. Conclusion: People seek information from various resources to update their knowledge and become more prepared in the face of COVID- 19. The findings can be used to develop policies on informing and preventing the dissemination of false information in crises, such as the COVID- 19 crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2021, a seedling rot disease was observed on Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) seedlings in a bareroot forest nursery in Naju‐si, Jeollanam‐do Province, South Korea. Infected seedlings were yellowing at the disease outset but became black after severe infection. At onset of disease, seedlings began yellowing. As disease progressed, black rot of the leaves and roots was common and eventually wilt and seedling death was observed. Seedling mortality was about 30%. The causal organism was isolated from the seedlings on potato dextrose agar media. A total of nine isolates were recovered and two representative isolates were identified as Fusarium asiaticum based on morphological characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, translation elongation factor (EF1–α) and RNA polymerase II (RPB2) genes. Pathogenicity and fungicide sensitivity were tested to confirm pathogen viability and control efficacy of the disease. The fungal isolate caused severe disease in the inoculated Hinoki cypress seedlings. Also, the isolates were sensitive to benomyl, hexaconazole and pyraclostrobin and showed reduced sensitivity to penthiopyrad. In planta assays showed 98.81 and 100% disease control by the application of pyraclostrobin and hexaconazole, respectively. The pathogen was re‐isolated from the inoculated seedlings and its identity was confirmed by morphological analysis fulfilling Koch's postulates. Background: Meta‐analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating thresholds for red blood cell (RBC) transfusion typically focus on mortality; however, other outcomes are highly relevant. The aim of this study is to summarize the effects of different transfusion thresholds on the outcomes of quality of life (QoL) and function. Study Design: We extracted data from RCTs identified in a recently published Cochrane systematic review. Primary analysis was descriptive. Results: A total of 23 RCTs with 13,743 adult participants were included. Fifteen RCTs included patients in the postoperative period, of which 9 RCTs were conducted in hip (n = 3024) and 6 (n = 8672) in cardiac surgeries; 5 RCTs (n = 489) were in patients with hematological malignancies; 2 in the setting of bleeding (gastrointestinal bleed [n = 936] and postpartum [n = 521]); and one RCT (n = 936) included critically ill patients. QoL and function were reported using a variety of questionnaires and tools. The timing of assessments varied between trials. No clear clinical differences in QoL outcomes were identified in comparisons between restrictive and liberal transfusion thresholds. Discussion: There is no evidence that a liberal transfusion strategy improves QoL and functional outcomes. However, the substantial limitations of many included studies indicate the need for further well‐designed and adequately powered trials. This paper analyzes descriptions of Ukrainian refugees in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Findings of previous research on news media descriptions of refugees point to problematic descriptions of refugees that downgrade their deservingness of refuge and treat refugee status as an inherent feature of fleeing individuals instead of as contingent on external circumstances. However, there is a widespread perception that Ukrainian refugees are being reported on in a more positive light. We therefore examine how news media describe these refugees. Our corpus includes English media news coverage from February 25, 2022, to March 25, 2022, the initial period of the invasion. A discursive psychological analysis of news interactions where hosts elicit information from correspondents about current ongoings with Ukrainian refugees shows that Ukrainian refugees are constructed as vulnerable, and their actions are treated as reasonable given the situation. These descriptions construct Ukrainian refugees as those who are only contingently refugees and legitimate help‐giving by other parties. Our findings, therefore, highlight distinct, previously unanalyzed ways that refugees are constructed: contingent refugees. Declining levels of trust in the media in Western democracies have drawn the attention of political scientists, but much less attention has been paid to East Asia. This paper sets out to examine the logic behind media trust in three different types of regimes in East and Southeast Asia: countries with, partial, and no press freedom, respectively. Our findings show that while respondents' trust in government and support for socioideological control of the government have consistent and significant associations with their media trust across all 12 countries, Internet usage, online political participation, support for media censorship, and patriotic belief have different associations with the variable being studied as the degree of press freedom varies. The findings indicate that citizens are well aware of the role mass media plays in the political system and thus their trust in the media reflects the expectation‐perception gap of the government‐media relationship accordingly. BioFactura has developed a proposed biosimilar candidate (BFI‐751) to ustekinumab reference product. Results are reported for the first‐in‐human trial designed to compare the pharmacokinetic profiles, safety, and immunogenicity of BFI‐751 and ustekinumab reference products from the European Union and United States as well as similarity of the EU and US reference products. This was a multicenter, randomized, double blind, 3‐parallel‐group study (trial ID: NCT04843631). Healthy subjects were randomized to receive a single subcutaneous dose of 45 mg of BFI‐751, EU ustekinumab, or US ustekinumab. The pharmacokinetic parameters were area under the concentration–time curve (AUC) from time zero to infinity, AUC from time zero to the last quantifiable concentration, and maximum concentration. Safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity data were also reported. Pairwise comparisons among the 3 treatments all met the standard bioequivalence criteria that the 90% confidence interval of the geometric mean ratios of AUC from time zero to infinity, AUC from time zero to the last quantifiable concentration, and maximum concentration are completely within the acceptance interval of 80%–125%. There were no marked differences in the safety and tolerability profiles for subjects receiving BFI‐751 as compared to EU or US ustekinumab. Pierre Bourdieu argued for the existence of general properties and even laws of social fields. In contrast to spaces of class relations and patterns of cultural lifestyles, however, almost no systematic comparative research exists on the homologies of national social fields of a more specialised nature. Also, the large majority of research is done on Western countries, raising concerns about the relevance of the concept for less differentiated societies. Using the field of journalism as a case, typical structures of 67 national fields (n = 27,567) are in this article investigated using a reverse approach: First, the subjective spaces of journalists' experienced constraints and imperatives in their jobs are sketched as a proxy for field structure using variants of multiple correspondence analysis, and second, the distribution of the social and professional properties of journalists are used to suggest capital structures. According to epistemological disjunctivism (ED), ordinary perceptual experience ensures an opportunity for perceptual knowledge. In recent years, two distinct models of this idea have been developed. For Duncan Pritchard (Epistemological disjunctivism, 2012, Oxford University Press; Epistemic angst: Radical skepticism and the groundlessness of our believing, 2012, Princeton University Press), perception provides distinctly powerful reasons for belief. By contrast, Clayton Littlejohn (Journal of Philosophical Research, 41, 201; Knowledge first, 2017, Oxford University Press; Normativity: Epistemic and practical, 2018, Oxford University Press) and Alan Millar (The nature and value of knowledge: Three investigations, 2010, Oxford University Press; Philosophical Issues, 21, 332) argue for a version of ED in terms of a "knowledge first" program, on which perception directly provides knowledge, without relying on antecedent reasons or justification. Specifically, both Littlejohn and Millar argue that "reasons first" ED faces a problematic regress. In this article, I defend "reasons first" ED by arguing that experience provides a type of reason that escapes the regress. Background: Health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) is frequently assessed in randomised clinical trials (RCTs) in the intensive care unit (ICU), but data are limited regarding the proportions of patients without responses or not surviving to HRQoL follow‐up and the handling of this. We aimed to describe the extent and pattern of missing HRQoL data in intensive care trials and describe how these data and deaths were handled statistically. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis following a published protocol. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL and Cochrane Library for RCTs involving adult ICU patients reporting HRQoL as an outcome and excluded RCTs unobtainable in full text. We performed risk of bias assessment independently and in duplicate. Results: We included 196 outcomes from 88 RCTs published in the years 2002–2022; the numbers of patients alive and eligible to respond HRQoL were reported in 76% of trials. At follow‐up, median 27% (interquartile range 14%–39%) of patients had died, and median 20% (9%–38%) of survivors did not respond across outcomes. Analyses of 80% of outcomes were restricted to complete cases only. The handling of non‐survivors in analyses were reported for 46% of outcomes, with 26% of all outcomes reported as including non‐survivors (using the value zero or the worst possible score). Conclusion: For HRQoL outcomes in ICU trials, we found that mortality at time of follow‐up was high and non‐response among survivors frequent. Background: Nutrition is an area of apparent disagreement among the public and experts. It is also an area which has seen a rapid increase in the number of publications in the past 40 years. With the advent of online media and social media platforms, the volume of news has also increased. This review considered five types of nutrition research and how press releases linked to publications might be reported by the media. Methods: Examples were taken from nutrition‐related articles published in the areas of in vitro work, animal data, epidemiology, clinical trials and data modelling publications which had press releases deposited in online repositories (EurekAlert! and AlphaGalileo). A critical narrative of the source of the media message, estimates of its reach and any potential exaggeration or source of confusion were identified. Results: It was clear that research has been reported by funders, journals and researchers' institutions in ways that claim extended findings of the data beyond that reported in the manuscript. This included inferences of health benefits in humans from laboratory studies, splitting outcome data for the same exposure in epidemiological studies based on perceived public interest, using clinical trials to make media claims that would not be permitted in advertisements and claiming modelled data for cases were actual changes in numbers of cases. Conclusions: It is essential that funding bodies and institutions along with academic journals apply pressure to discourage exaggeration of research. This is necessary to maintain public trust in science and ultimately improve public health. Recommendations: Develop advice on how language linked to causality and certainty is used building on the initial steps made by the Academies of Medical Sciences to assess both press releases and subsequent reporting.Encourage journals to release press releases to external bodies such as the Science Media Centre to seek external comment. This perhaps is preferable to commentary in accompanying journal editorial as this could risk bias, as it is also likely to support journal readership.Consider how results could be extended, and avoid institutional press releases which contain health claims and look to make a health claim.Editors and reviewers should look to moderate how claims can potentially grow through types of research without the evidence being in place, including careful reporting of the nature of the methodologies and models used.Journals should seek to publish more complete data sets rather than apparently splitting outcomes for the same exposure or intervention.Encourage the development of 'lab‐to‐person' research and reviews to develop theories and evidence from mechanism to intervention data. Evidence suggests that political differences have increased markedly in the United States in recent decades. Differences may also emerge in the way that partisans express themselves through language, and it is possible that language differences vary in times of crisis and war. In the current work we examined over a decade's worth of transcripts from a liberal (MSNBC) and conservative (Fox) news network. More specifically, we examined evidence for two competing perspectives on language differences during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. One perspective, the depolarization perspective, suggests that we should see decreased differences, or parity in language styles between the two networks leading up to and during the invasion. Another perspective, the polarization perspective, suggests we should see increased differences in language styles between networks leading up to and during the early stages of the invasion. We examined an index of personalizing and formalizing language as well as 77 Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) dictionaries plus noun frequency using smoothed curves and linear discriminant function analyses (LDA) to examine the pattern of results in our data. Our results provide more support for the depolarization perspective, showing that both Fox News and MSNBC became more similar than different leading up to and during the invasion. The Onion Router (Tor) is a sophisticated web browser accompanied by an encrypted network that enables online anonymity, protecting people's privacy. Adopted by many as a counter‐surveillance mitigation around the world, legitimate users of Tor include the military, journalists, whistle‐blowers, and citizens from authoritarian regimes. This article shows that the data protection offered by Tor is consistently associated to criminal and anti‐social uses by the media. This research looks at the British press representation of Tor conducting a thematic analysis of articles published by six newspapers between 2008 and 2017. This analysis connects the press coverage to three theoretical approaches: moral panics, technological ambivalence, and liberation technology. This research demonstrates through three case studies that the media reproduces theoretical discussions about new technologies on Tor's portrayal, presenting cases with only positive, only negatives and both positive and negative uses. However, examples of optimistic views of Tor are rare, and the press coverage focuses mainly on the criminal uses, especially crypto markets and child pornography. Overall, the British press ignores a culture of surveillance and spreads a discourse of fear through a recurrent connection of Tor to horrifying uses, undermining any potential positive outcomes. Aim: New topical agents have been developed for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) in recent years. This systematic review is intended to synthesize the clinical trial literature and concisely report the updated safety and adverse effects of topical medications used to treat atopic dermatitis in children. Methods: A systematic search of Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to March 2022 was conducted for trials of topical medications used to treat AD in patients <18 years (PROSPERO #CRD42022315355). Included records were limited to English‐language publications and studies of ≥3 weeks duration. Phase 1 studies and those that lacked separate paediatric safety reporting were excluded. Results: A total of 5005 records were screened; 75 records met inclusion criteria with 15 845 paediatric patients treated with tacrolimus, 12 851 treated with pimecrolimus, 3539 with topical corticosteroid (TCS), 700 with crisaborole and 202 with delgocitinib. Safety data was well reported in tacrolimus trials with the most frequently reported adverse events being burning sensation, pruritus and cutaneous infections. Two longitudinal cohort studies were included, one for tacrolimus and one for pimecrolimus, which found no significant increased risk of malignancy with topical calcineurin inhibitor (TCI) use in children. Skin atrophy was identified as an adverse event in TCS trials, which other medications did not. Systemic adverse events for the medications were largely common childhood ailments. Conclusion: Data discussed here support the use of steroid‐sparing medications (tacrolimus, pimecrolimus, crisaborole, delgocitinib) as safe options with minimal adverse events for managing paediatric AD, although a larger number of TCI studies reported burning and pruritus compared to TCS studies. TCS was the only medication class associated with reports of skin atrophy in this review. The tolerability of these adverse events should be considered when treating young children. This review was limited to English‐language publications and the variable safety reporting of trial investigators. Since high-pressure devices have been used at synchrotron facilities, accurate determination of pressure and temperature in the sample has been a crucial objective, particularly for experiments that simulate the Earth's interior. However, in some cases using a thermocouple may have a high likelihood of failure or is incompatible with a high-pressure assembly. To address these challenges and similar issues, we aim to expand a previously proposed solution: to jointly estimate pressure and temperature (PT) through in situ X-ray diffraction, to cover a wider range of internal PT calibrants tested over larger PT ranges. A modifiable Python-based software is offered to quickly obtain results. To achieve these aims, in situ large volume press experiments are performed on pellets of intimately mixed powders of a halide (NaCl, KCl, KBr, CsCl) or MgO and a metal (Pt, Re, Mo, W, Ni) in the pressure range 3-11 GPa and temperature range 300-1800 K. Although the pressure range was chosen for practical reasons, it also covers an equally important depth range in the Earth (down to 350 km) for geoscience studies. A thermocouple was used to validate the PT conditions in the cell assemblies. The key results show that choosing the appropriate calibrant materials and using a joint PT estimation can yield surprisingly small uncertainties (i.e. <-0.1 GPa and <-50 K). This development is expected to benefit current and future research at extreme conditions, as other materials with high compressibility or high thermal pressure, stable over large PT ranges, may be discovered and used as PT calibrants. This study examined whether hypoxia during multi-set, high-load resistance exercise alters neuromuscular responses. Using a single-blinded (participants), randomised crossover design, eight resistance-trained males completed five sets of five repetitions of bench press at 80% of one repetition maximum in moderate normobaric hypoxia (inspiratory oxygen fraction = 0.145) and normoxia. Maximal isometric bench press trials were performed following the warm-up, after 10 min of altitude priming and 5 min post-session (outside, inside and outside the chamber, respectively). Force during pre-/post-session maximal voluntary isometric contractions and bar velocity during exercise sets were measured along with surface electromyographic (EMG) activity of the pectoralis major, anterior deltoid and lateral and medial triceps muscles. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA (condition×time) were used. A significant time effect (p = 0.048) was found for mean bar velocity, independent of condition (p = 0.423). During sets of the bench press exercise, surface EMG amplitude of all studied muscles remained unchanged (p > 0.187). During maximal isometric trials, there were no main effects of condition (p > 0.666) or time (p > 0.119), nor were there any significant condition×time interactions for peak or mean forces and surface EMG amplitudes (p > 0.297). Lower end-exercise blood oxygen saturation (90.9 ± 1.8 vs. 98.6 ± 0.6%; p < 0.001) and higher blood lactate concentration (5.8 ± 1.4 vs. 4.4 ± 1.6 mmol/L; p = 0.007) values occurred in hypoxia. Acute delivery of systemic normobaric hypoxia during multi-set, high-load resistance exercise increased metabolic stress. However, only subtle neuromuscular function adjustments occurred with and without hypoxic exposure either during maximal isometric bench press trials before versus after the session or during actual exercise sets. Highlights Performing multi-set, high-load bench press resistance exercise in hypoxia accentuates metabolic stress, as evidenced by lower arterial oxygen saturation and higher blood lactate concentration, compared to normoxia. Acute hypoxic exposure doesn't alter neuromuscular responses during the execution of the sets since mean bar velocity dropped similarly in both conditions from set 2 to set 5 with no difference in peak velocity and surface EMG amplitude of the prime movers during the bench press. Only subtle adjustments in peak or mean force and accompanying surface EMG activity occur with and without hypoxic exposure during maximal isometric bench press trials after a 10-min hypoxic priming period and 5 min after the session in reference to post-warm-up. The present paper aims to derive a partial differential equation (PDE) for the single‐time single‐point probability density function (PDF) of the velocity field of a turbulent flow. The PDF PDE is a highly non‐linear parabolic‐transport equation, which depends on two conditional statistical numerics of important physical significance. The PDF PDE is a general form of the classical Reynolds mean flow equation (O. Reynolds, Philos. Trans. R. Soc. Lond. Ser. A 186 (1895), 123–164. http://doi.org/10.1098/rsta.1895.0004) and is a precise formulation of the PDF transport equation (S. B. Sama Bajo fishing communities in Southeast Sulawesi maintain a strong cultural and economic orientation to diverse fishing‐based livelihoods and varied engagement with high value seafood market supply chains. The onset of the COVID‐19 pandemic within Indonesia in early 2020, and its viral spread across the archipelago over 2021, had dramatic and disruptive impacts on local economies and distribution networks that sustain livelihoods, market services and the distribution of food supplies. Despite these dislocations and the continuing threat of COVID infections for mostly unvaccinated regional populations, the following study of Sama Bajo communities highlights their remarkable resilience in the face of pressing vulnerabilities. The capacity to develop and implement a range of adaptive strategies reflects a long‐term accommodation to dynamic seasonal fluctuations, and the enduring value of diverse marine‐based livelihood options. In this paper we highlight some of the systemic impacts of the COVID pandemic and a variety of ways that Sama Bajo households have found to cope and even thrive under difficult conditions. This article examines the image of the British suffragettes in the early Chinese press up to the 1910s. By widely surveying newspapers and magazines, it shows that the common adoption of the shrew trope in depicting the suffragettes went beyond a reductive translational interaction between the West and the East. People's Stand, The Eastern Miscellany and other periodical publications present different ways in which diction, images, literary legacy, gender tradition and cultural demands all came into play in reconfiguring the Chinese shrew and her connections to the Western suffragettes. The shrew–suffragette linkage debunks notions of selling strategies and editorial ambivalence underlying the gesture of the press. Yet it was precisely this ambiguity that rendered the shrew image so polysemic and fruitful, eventually allowing this traditional character type to be positively associated with the new woman models in Chinese progressive discourses. Figure 18 of Hennig's Phylogenetic Systematics (University of Illinois Press, Urbana, IL, 1966) shows a phylogenetic tree (a generative hierarchy) and what appear to be nested sets (an inclusive hierarchy) that he stated were two representations of the same pattern of relationships. This essay questions whether this is correct or not, explores the meanings of different hierarchical patterns, reviews various interpretations of Hennig's figure, and discusses the conceptual path from systematic evidence to phylogenetic explanation. The crux of the argument is that systematic hierarchies as we know them scientifically are nested sets that group theoretical entities based on patterns of synapomorphy. Introduction: Transvaginal mesh (mesh) surgeries have been used to treat stress urinary incontinence (incontinence) and/or pelvic organ prolapse (prolapse). In Australia, as in many other countries, the harms caused by mesh eventually prompted individual and collective attempts to achieve redress. The rise of mesh surgery as a procedure, the experience of mesh‐affected women and the formal inquiries and legal actions that followed all occurred in social, cultural and discursive contexts. One strategy to understand these contexts is to track how the mesh and key actors in the mesh stories have been portrayed in mass media sources. We conducted a media analysis of the most highly read Australian newspapers and online news media platforms, focusing on how mesh and the interaction of stakeholders in mesh stories were presented to the Australian public. Method: We searched systematically in the top 10 most‐read print and online media outlets in Australia. We included all articles that mentioned mesh, from the date of first use of mesh in Australia to the date of our final search (1996–2021). Result: After early scant media reporting focusing on the benefits of mesh procedures, major Australian medicolegal processes created a hook to shift reporting about mesh. The news media then played a significant role in redressing women's experienced epistemic injustice, including by amplifying previously ignored evidence of harm. This created an opportunity for previously unreported suffering to be revealed to powerful actors, in settings beyond the immediate control and epistemic authority of healthcare stakeholders, validating women's testimony and creating new hermeneutic resources for understanding mesh. Over time, media reports show healthcare stakeholders responding sympathetically to these new understandings in public discourse, contrasting with their statements in earlier media coverage. Conclusion: We argue that mass media reporting, in synergy with medicolegal actions and the Australian Senate Inquiry, appears to have provided women with greater epistemic justice, giving their testimony privileged epistemic status such that it was considered by powerful actors. Although medical reporting is not recognised in the hierarchy of evidence embedded in the medical knowledge system, in this case, media reporting appears to have contributed to shaping medical knowledge in significant ways.
