Introduction: Physical activity is important for improving and maintaining overall health across the life span, including during and after pregnancy. Achieving recommended levels of physical activity can be challenging during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The US Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion sought to promote physical activity during and after pregnancy through the development of health education materials for the Move Your Way campaign. Research was conducted with pregnant and postpartum people to learn what types of messages and materials would encourage physical activity in these populations. Methods: Participants were recruited from 3 regions of the United States to participate in 90‐minute virtual focus groups. Eligible participants were aged 18 years or older and either pregnant or 6 weeks to 1 year postpartum. Participants were asked questions about their beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions about physical activity and prompted to provide feedback on health promotion messages and images. Sessions were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed for key themes. Results: Twenty‐four focus groups were conducted with 48 pregnant participants and 52 postpartum participants. Sixteen sessions were conducted in English and 8 were conducted in Spanish. Most participants had questions about how much physical activity is recommended, and many cited their health care provider as a trusted source of information. Participants responded positively to materials that acknowledged the uniqueness of each pregnant or postpartum experience, referenced gradually increasing physical activity levels, highlighted the benefits of physical activity, focused on safety, addressed common barriers, and displayed realistic representations of physical activity. Discussion: There is an opportunity to improve messaging about physical activity during and after pregnancy. To better promote physical activity, perinatal health care providers and other health professionals can share information about recommended amounts of physical activity, communicate the benefits, and promote realistic and achievable physical activity messages that address common barriers in these populations. Described here is a method for the measurement of the radio‐metabolites of the positron emission tomography radiotracer [6‐O‐methyl‐11C]diprenorphine ([11C]diprenorphine) using in‐line solid‐phase extraction (SPE) combined with radio‐high‐pressure liquid chromatography analysis. We believe that this method offers a reliable and reproducible approach to [11C]diprenorphine metabolite analysis. In addition, different SPE stationary phases are assessed for their efficiency for loading, retention and elution of the parent molecule and its metabolites. Having assessed C4, phenyl and C18 stationary phase, we concluded that a C18 SPE was optimal for our method. Finally, in silico predictions of diprenorphine metabolism were compared with in vivo metabolism of [11C]diprenorphine induced by hepatic microsomal digestion and analysed by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry. It was found that there was a high degree of agreement between the two methods and in particular the formation of the diprenorphine‐3‐glucuronide metabolite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the incidents of bee poisoning in Great Britain in 1994 up to 2003. This paper focuses on the effects of pesticides to honeybees (Apis mellifera, L.) and bumblebees (Bombus terrestris, L.) monitored by the UK Agriculture Departments for over twenty years. This is in part of the Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme (WIIS). The results gathered by these organizations were reviewed for pesticide regulatory process. Trends in the span of twenty years look promising as reported incidents of bee poisoning are slowly decreasing in number. The possible reasons in the circumstances are discussed.

The River Murray is a highly regulated, low gradient stream. Prior to barrage construction near the Murray Mouth saline water was present sporadically far upstream. Barrage completion by 1940 has had geo-morphic and ecological impacts. Estuarine Lakes Albert and Alexandrina became permanent freshwater bodies with elevated water levels. Exposed lake margins have eroded by up to 10 m yr', whereas along sheltered shorelines, sedimentation has accompanied reed growth. Upstream weirs have inhibited coarse sediment from reaching the lakes. In the Goolwa Channel, sedimentation changed from bioclas-tic sands to muds, accumulating at up to 4.5 mm yr' over the past 50 years. Regulation has also transformed a migrating flood tidal delta at the Murray Mouth into a permanently vegetated island. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
