Emerging pathogenic tick‐borne viruses (TBVs) have attracted a great deal of attention due to their significant impact on human and animal health. A novel orthonairovirus named Dadong virus (DDV) was isolated from Haemaphysalis concinna ticks in the Changbai Mountain region on the China–North Korea border. DDV can induce cytopathic effects in mammalian and human cell lines. Phylogenetic analysis showed that it belongs to the genus Orthonairovirus, family Nairoviridae, exhibiting 72.4%–81.3% nucleic acid identity to Tofla orthonairovirus, known to cause lethal infection in IFNAR KO mice. The first serological evidence of DDV circulating in cattle and mice was also obtained, with 4.0% (1/25) of cattle and 2.27% (1/44) of mice seropositive for DDV. Cigarette smoke aggravates severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) infection. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, they show that benzo[a]pyrene in cigarette smoke extract facilitates SARS‐CoV‐2 infection via upregulating angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2). Benzo[a]pyrene trans‐activates the promoters of ACE2 and TMPRSS2 by upregulating nuclear receptor subfamily 4 A number 2 (NR4A2) and promoting its binding of NR4A2 to their promoters, which is independent of functional genetic polymorphisms in ACE2 and TMPRSS2. Benzo[a]pyrene increases the susceptibility of lung epithelial cells to SARS‐CoV‐2 pseudoviruses and facilitates the infection of authentic Omicron BA.5 in primary human alveolar type II cells, lung organoids, and lung and testis of hamsters. Increased expression of Nr4a2, Ace2, and Tmprss2, as well as decreased methylation of CpG islands at the Nr4a2 promoter are observed in aged mice compared to their younger counterparts. NR4A2 knockdown or interferon‐λ2/λ3 stimulation downregulates the expression of NR4A2, ACE2, and TMPRSS2, thereby inhibiting the infection. In conclusion, benzo[a]pyrene enhances SARS‐CoV‐2 infection by boosting NR4A2‐induced ACE2 and TMPRSS2 expression. This study elucidates the mechanisms underlying the detrimental effects of cigarette smoking on SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and provides prophylactic options for coronavirus disease 2019, particularly for the elderly population. The long‐term protective efficacy of neutralizing antibodies (Nabs) against Omicron subvariants after inactivated booster vaccines remains elusive. During the follow‐up study, 54 healthy volunteers aged 20–31 years received inactivated CoronaVac booster vaccinations and were monitored for 221 days. The dynamic efficacy and durability of Nab against Omicron subvariants BA.1, BA.2, BA.2.12.2, and BA4/5 were assessed using a pseudotyped virus neutralization assay at up to nine time points post immunization. The antibody response against Omicron subvariants was substantially weaker than D614G, with BA.4/5 being the least responsive. The geometric mean titer (GMT) of Nab against Omicron subvariants BA.1, BA.2, BA.2.12.1, and BA.4/5 was 2.2‐, 1.7‐, 1.8‐, and 2.2‐fold lower than that against D614G (ps < 0.0001). The gap in Nab response between Omicron subvariants was pronounced during the 2 weeks–2 months following booster vaccination (ps < 0.05). Seven months post booster, the antibody potency against D614G was maintained at 100% (50% for Nab titers ≥ 100 50% inhibitory dilution [EC50]), whereas at 77.3% for BA.1, 90.9% for BA.2, 86.4% for BA.2.12.1, and 86.4% for BA.4/5 (almost 20% for Nab titers ≥ 100 EC50). Despite the inevitable immune escape, Omicron subvariants maintained sustained and measurable antibody potency post‐booster vaccination during long‐term monitoring, which could help optimize immunization strategies. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) variants, particularly those with multiple mutations in receptor‐binding domain (RBD), pose a critical challenge to the efficacy of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) vaccines and therapeutic neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Omicron sublineages BA.1, BA.2, BA.3, as well as the recent emergence of C.1.2, B.1.630, B.1.640.1, and B.1.640.2, have multiple mutations in RBD and may lead to severe neutralizing antibody evasion. It is urgent to evaluate the antigenic change of the above seven variants against mAbs and sera from guinea pigs immunized with variants of concern (VOCs) (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Omicron) and variants of interest (VOIs) (Lambda, Mu) immunogens. Only seven out of the 24 mAbs showed no reduction in neutralizing activity against BA.1, BA.2, and BA.3. However, among these seven mAbs, the neutralization activity of XGv337 and XGv338 against C.1.2, B.1.630, B.1.640.1, and B.1.640.2 were decreased. Therefore, only five neutralizing mAbs showed no significant change against these seven variants. Using VOCs and VOIs as immunogens, we found that the antigenicity of variants could be divided into three clusters, and each cluster showed similar antigenicity to different immunogens. The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has caused more than 150 million cases of infection to date and poses a serious threat to global public health. In this study, global COVID‐19 data were used to examine the dynamical variations from the perspectives of immunity and contact of 84 countries across the five climate regions: tropical, arid, temperate, and cold. A new approach named Yi Hua Jie Mu is proposed to obtain the transmission rates based on the COVID‐19 data between the countries with the same climate region over the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. Our results suggest that the COVID‐19 pandemic will persist over a long period of time or enter into regular circulation in multiple periods of 1–2 years. Moreover, based on the simulated results by the COVID‐19 data, it is found that the temperate and cold climate regions have higher infection rates than the tropical and arid climate regions, which indicates that climate may modulate the transmission of COVID‐19. The role of the climate on the COVID‐19 variations should be concluded with more data and more cautions. The non‐pharmaceutical interventions still play the key role in controlling and prevention this global pandemic. The synthesis of biomass‐derived ethers to be used as biofuels or biofuel additives has attracted much attention. Following the recently reported synthesis of etherified ester ethyl‐4‐ethoxy pentanoate (EEP) from γ‐valerolactone (GVL) in ethanol catalyzed by H‐beta zeolite, an alternative route to prepare EEP in high yield has been developed by reductive etherification of ethyl levulinate (EL) in ethanol at 140 °C under 0.5 MPa H2 with a silica‐modified Pd/C catalyst. The ether production likely follows a tandem acetalization–hydrogenolysis process with ethyl‐4,4‐diethoxy pentanoate (EDEP) as the intermediate. The acetalization step can be favored by introducing acidic materials, such as SiO2–carbon or beta zeolite, as a cocatalyst. The combination of the Pd/SiO2‐C and beta zeolite mixture leads to 100 % EL conversion and 93 % EEP selectivity under optimized reaction conditions. For the first time, the standard molar combustion enthalpy of as‐prepared EEP is measured by using a static oxygen bomb, and the value of which is determined to be about −5658 kJ mol−1, which is much larger than that of GVL (−2650 kJ mol−1).
