This study investigated how individualism, collectivism and conformity are associated with parenting and child adjustment in 1297 families with 10‐year‐old children from 13 cultural groups in nine countries. With multilevel models disaggregating between‐ and within‐culture effects, we examined between‐ and within‐culture associations between maternal and paternal cultural values, parenting dimensions and children's adjustment. Mothers from cultures endorsing higher collectivism and fathers from cultures endorsing lower individualism engage more frequently in warm parenting behaviours. Mothers and fathers with higher‐than‐average collectivism in their culture reported higher parent warmth and expectations for children's family obligations. Mothers with higher‐than‐average collectivism in their cultures more frequently reported warm parenting and fewer externalising problems in children, whereas mothers with higher‐than‐average individualism in their culture reported more child adjustment problems. Mothers with higher‐than‐average conformity values in their culture reported more father‐displays of warmth and greater mother‐reported expectations for children's family obligations. Fathers with higher‐than‐average individualism in their culture reported setting more rules and soliciting more knowledge about their children's whereabouts. Fathers who endorsed higher‐than‐average conformity in their culture displayed more warmth and expectations for children's family obligations and granted them more autonomy. To examine whether parents' cultural values are related to parenting practices and children's behavioural adjustment, mothers, fathers and children (N = 218) from two cities in China (Jinan and Shanghai) were interviewed when children were, on average, 10 years old. Mothers and fathers reported their endorsement of cultural values (individualism, collectivism, conformity), which were used to separately predict warmth and family obligation expectations reported by each parent, as well as children's report of parental psychological control, rule setting, knowledge solicitation and perceived family obligation expectations. Cross‐informant (parents and child) composites of internalising and externalising behaviours were also obtained. The results showed that maternal individualism positively predicted parents' knowledge solicitation. Parental collectivism positively predicted their own warmth and family obligation expectations. Mothers' conformity positively predicted mothers' family obligation expectations, paternal warmth and children's perception of family obligation, whereas fathers' conformity only positively predicted fathers' family obligation expectations. These effects were largely consistent across regional subsamples, although mothers in Jinan were more collectivistic than mothers in Shanghai, and parents in Shanghai adopted less psychological control and more knowledge solicitation in parenting. Aims: Parkinson's disease (PD) patients experience improvement in motor symptoms after deep brain stimulation (DBS) and before initiating stimulation. This is called the microlesion effect. However, the mechanism remains unclear. The study aims to comprehensively explore the changes in functional connectivity (FC) patterns in movement‐related brain regions in PD patients during the microlesion phase through seed‐based FC analysis. Methods: The study collected the resting functional magnetic resonance imaging data of 49 PD patients before and after DBS surgery (off stimulation). The cortical and subcortical areas related to motor function were selected for seed‐based FC analysis. Meanwhile, their relationship with the motor scale was investigated. Results: The motor‐related brain regions were selected as the seed point, and we observed various FC declines within the motor network brain regions. These declines were primarily in the left middle temporal gyrus, bilateral middle frontal gyrus, right supplementary motor area, left precentral gyrus, left postcentral gyrus, left inferior frontal gyrus, and right superior frontal gyrus after DBS. Conclusion: The movement‐related network was extensively reorganized during the microlesion period. The study provided new information on enhancing motor function from the network level post‐DBS. Two pre‐registered studies examined people's psychological collectivism, personal control, and attitudes toward disease‐control measures in the context of the COVID‐19 crisis and more generalized contexts. Study 1 surveyed 819 residents in Shanghai in late May 2022 when they were undergoing a stringent city‐wide lockdown caused by an outbreak of the Omicron variant. We found that participants' psychological collectivism attenuated the negative association between experiences of COVID‐19 restrictions and personal control and enhanced the positive association between personal control and support for COVID‐19 restrictions. Study 2 (N = 403) recruited an online sample with diverse backgrounds and demographic characteristics and sought to extend the findings of Study 1 beyond the context of the COVID‐19 pandemic. Participants were exposed to a series of hypothetical scenarios depicting a fictitious virus with varying fatality and transmissibility. As in Study 1, participants higher in psychological collectivism exhibited a stronger positive association between personal control and endorsement of stricter societal disease‐control measures, but only in low‐fatality, high‐transmissibility situations. Inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) or biochar (BC) application can improve photosynthesis and promote plant growth under saline‐alkali stress. However, little is known about the effects of the two combined on growth and physiological characteristics of switchgrass under saline‐alkali stress. This study examined the effects of four treatments: (1) no AMF inoculation and no biochar addition (control), (2) biochar (BC) alone, (3) AMF (Rhizophagus irregularis, Ri) alone, and (4) the combination of both (BC+Ri) on the plant biomass, antioxidant enzymes, chlorophyll, and photosynthetic parameters of switchgrass under saline‐alkali stress. The results showed that the above‐ground, belowground and total biomass of switchgrass in the BC+Ri treatment group was significantly higher (+136.7%, 120.2% and 132.4%, respectively) than in other treatments compared with Control. BC+Ri treatment significantly increased plant leaves' relative chlorophyll content, antioxidant enzyme activity, and photosynthesis parameters. It is worth noting that the transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, net photosynthetic rate, PSII efficiency and other photosynthetic‐related indexes of the BC+Ri treatment group were the highest (38% to 54% higher than other treatments). The fitting results of light response and CO2 response curves showed that the light saturation point, light compensation point, maximum carboxylation rate and maximum electron transfer rate of switchgrass in the Ri+BC treatment group were the highest. In conclusion, biochar combined with Ri has potential beneficial effects on promoting switchgrass growth under saline‐alkali stress and improving the activity of antioxidant enzymes and photosynthetic characteristics of plants. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) patients undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery require subsequent programming, which is complex and cumbersome. The local field potential (LFP) in the deep brain is associated with motor symptom improvement. The current study aimed to identify LFP biomarkers correlated with improved motor symptoms in PD patients after DBS and verify their guiding role in postoperative programming. Methods: Initially, the study included 36 PD patients undergoing DBS surgery. Temporary external electrical stimulation was performed during electrode implantation, and LFP signals around the electrode contacts were collected before and after stimulation. The stimulating contact at 6 months of programming was regarded as the optimal and effective stimulating contact. The LFP signal of this contact during surgery was analyzed to identify potential LFP biomarkers. Next, we randomly assigned another 30 PD patients who had undergone DBS to physician empirical programming and LFP biomarker‐guided programming groups and compared the outcomes. Results: In the first part of the study, LFP signals of electrode contacts changed after electrical stimulation. Electrical stimulation reduced gamma energy and the beta/alpha oscillation ratio. The different programming method groups were compared, indicating the superiority of beta/alpha oscillations ratio‐guided programming over physician experience programming for patients' improvement rate (IR) of UPDRS‐III. There were no significant differences in the IR of UPDRS‐III, post‐LED, IR‐PDQ39, number of programmings, and the contact change rate between the gamma oscillations‐guided programming and empirical programming groups. Conclusion: Overall, the findings reveal that gamma oscillations and the beta/alpha oscillations ratio are potential biomarkers for programming in PD patients after DBS. Background and Objectives: Proso millet is a traditional grain that can be divided into waxy and nonwaxy varieties based on amylose content. However, research on different varieties of cooked proso millet is limited, especially as a whole grain. This paper investigated the quality properties and aroma characterization of cooked nonwaxy proso millet (NPM) and waxy proso millet (WPM). Findings: Scanning electron microscopy images showed that cooked NPM exhibited a more compact structure, whereas cooked WPM displayed a porous structure. Cooked NPM presented higher water absorption ratio, expansion ratio, hardness, and better chewiness than cooked WPM. Correlation analysis indicated that the texture properties were positively correlated with the cooking characteristics as well as the amylose and protein contents. The resistant starch content of cooked NPM (35.97%) was higher than that of cooked WPM (28.85%). Aroma analysis revealed that cooked NPM and WPM contained 56 and 67 volatile substances, respectively. Conclusion: Cooked NPM and WPM exhibited different properties mainly attributed to the various amylose and protein contents. Background: Predicting Parkinson's disease (PD) can provide patients with targeted therapies. However, disease severity can be roughly evaluated in clinical practice based on the patient's symptoms and signs. Objective: The current study attempted to explore the factors linked with PD severity and construct a predictive model. Method: The PD patients and healthy controls were recruited from our study center while recording their basic demographic information. The serum inflammatory markers levels, such as Cystatin C (Cys C), C‐reactive protein (CRP), RANTES (regulated on activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted), Interleukin‐10 (IL‐10), and Interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) were determined for all the participants. PD patients were categorized into early and mid‐advanced groups based on the Hoehn and Yahr (H‐Y) scale and evaluated using PD‐related scales. LASSO logistic regression analysis (Model C) helped select variables based on clinical scale evaluations, serum inflammatory factor levels, and transcranial sonography measurements. The optimal harmonious model coefficient λ was determined via 10‐fold cross‐validation. Moreover, Model C was compared with multivariate (Model A) and stepwise (Model B) logistic regression. The area under the curve (AUC) of a receiver operator characteristic (ROC), brier score, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) helped determine the discrimination and calibration of the predictive model, followed by configuring a forest plot and column chart. Results: The study included 113 healthy individuals and 102 PD patients, with 26 early and 76 mid‐advanced patients. Univariate analysis of variance screened out statistically significant differences among inflammatory markers Cys C and RANTES. The average Cys C level in the mid‐advanced stage was significantly higher than in the early stage (p < 0.001) but not for RANTES (p = 0.740). The LASSO logistic regression model (λ.1se = 0.061) associated with UPDRS‐I, UPDRS‐II, UPDRS‐III, HAMA, PDQ‐39, and Cys C as the included independent variables revealed that the Model C discrimination and calibration (AUC = 0.968, Brier = 0.049) were superior to Model A (AUC = 0.926, Brier = 0.079) and Model B (AUC = 0.929, Brier = 0.071) models. Conclusion: The study results show multiple factors are linked with PD assessment. Moreover, the inflammatory marker Cys C and transcranial sonography measurement could objectively predict PD symptom severity, helping doctors monitor PD evolution in patients while targeting interventions. The current study examined the concurrent and longitudinal protective effects of peer popularity and self‐discipline (control, planning, and the ability to prioritize important things) against depressive symptoms among adolescents. We used multilevel modeling to examine the data of 1676 adolescents aged 12–15 years from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) survey, a large‐scale panel survey with a nationally representative sample. Results showed that both peer popularity and self‐discipline predicted lower levels of depressive symptoms measured concurrently. The buffering effect of self‐discipline against concurrent depressive symptoms was stronger for girls than for boys, especially in middle adolescence. Peer popularity additionally predicted lower levels of depressive symptoms 4 years later, and this effect was stronger for girls than for boys. These patterns of results were maintained after controlling for self‐rated physical health and society‐level factors. Background: In traditional Asian medicine, Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino leaf extract (Gp) is used to treat aging, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases. Hair loss and hair‐graying are common phenomena that haunt everyone. However, whether Gp activities on inhibition of hair loss and getting gray have been rarely studied. Aim: Study the Gp activity and mechanism by in vivo and in vitro experiments to explore its application on hair health. Methods: In the present study, we determined the effects of Gp on the expression of hair growth‐related genes and proliferation of human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs). Furthermore, Gp was topically applied to the hair‐shaved skin of male C57BL/6 mice, and the histological profile of the skin was studied. Because emotional stress may lead to melanocyte disappearance, norepinephrine‐exposed mice B16 melanocytes were treated with Gp to elucidate the anti‐hair graying capacity of Gp in response to this stress type. Results: Gp stimulated the proliferation of hDPCs and the Wnt signaling pathways associated with hair growth; furthermore, the expression of the hair loss‐related gene transforming growth factor‐β1 was suppressed. Gp treatment significantly increased the size of hair follicles in the treated mice and stimulated them. Moreover, Gp not only increased melanin synthesis but also tyrosinase activity in B16 cells. Quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction revealed that Gp increased melanin synthesis by increasing the expression of tyrosine‐related protein‐1, tyrosine‐related protein‐2, tyrosinase, and microphthalmia‐associated transcription factor. A wideband circularly polarized (CP) dipole antenna with compact size and wide beamwidth is proposed. To achieve a wide half‐power beamwidth (HPBW), the dipole is designed to be a folded bowtie, and four rotationally symmetric vertical metal plates are placed on the square ground plane. A circular parasitic patch above the dipole arms improves the impedance bandwidth. By using a 3‐dB coupler, the proposed antenna achieves wideband CP performance. The measured results show that an impedance bandwidth for VSWR ≤ 2 and a 3‐dB axial‐ratio (AR) bandwidth are from 0.76 to 2.1 GHz (93.7%). Summary: In this study, the antioxidant activities, structure, physicochemical properties and digestibility of different foxtail and proso millets were investigated. Dark‐coloured millets had lower lightness (L*) and higher total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and antioxidant activities than light‐coloured millets. The polygonal and spherical starch granules of millet were wrapped and attached by proteins, lipids, etc. The X‐ray diffraction patterns of millet flours exhibited A‐type, with crystallinity of 34.64%–40.98% for foxtail millets and 31.72%–40.16% for proso millets. Compared with waxy millets, non‐waxy millets were more resistant to swelling, gelatinisation and digestion, but showed a higher rate of retrogradation. Millet varieties with higher amylose content or higher TPC and TFC showed lower digestibility. These results will help to reveal the differences among millets with different types, varieties, colours and amylose content and provide theoretical guidance for their development and application. Background: Cancer cells often exhibit large‐scale genomic variations, such as circular extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) and structural variants (SVs), which have been highly correlated with the initiation and progression of cancer. Currently, no adequate method exists to unveil how these variations regulate gene expression in heterogeneous cancer cell populations at a single‐cell resolution. Methods: Here, we developed a single‐cell multi‐omics sequencing method, scGTP‐seq, to analyse ecDNA and SVs using long‐read sequencing technologies. Results and Conclusions: We demonstrated that our method can efficiently detect ecDNA and SVs and illustrated how these variations affect transcriptomic changes in various cell lines. Finally, we applied and validated this method in a clinical sample of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), demonstrating a feasible way to monitor the evolution of ecDNA and SVs during cancer progression. Background: In Parkinson's disease (PD), inflammation may lead to the degeneration of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons. Previous studies showed that inflammatory mediators mainly contributed to this phenomenon. On the other hand, invasive neuromodulation methods such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) have better therapeutic effects for PD. One possibility is that DBS improves PD by influencing inflammation. Therefore, we further explored the mechanisms underlying inflammatory mediators and DBS in the pathogenesis of PD. Methods: We measured serum levels of two inflammatory markers, namely RANTES (regulated on activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted) and tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α), using Luminex assays in 109 preoperative DBS PD patients, 49 postoperative DBS PD patients, and 113 age‐ and sex‐matched controls. The plasma protein data of the different groups were then statistically analyzed. Results: RANTES (p < 0.001) and TNF‐α (p = 0.005) levels differed significantly between the three groups. A strong and significant correlation between RANTES levels and Hoehn‐Yahr (H‐Y) stage was observed in preoperative PD patients (rs = 0.567, p < 0.001). Significant correlations between RANTES levels and Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale III (UPDRS III) score (rs1 = 0.644, p = 0.033 and rs2 = 0.620, p = 0.042) were observed in matched patients. No correlation was observed for TNF‐α levels. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that PD patients have a persistent inflammatory profile, possibly via recruitment of activated monocytes, macrophages, and T lymphocytes to the central nervous system (CNS). Correctly capturing the spatial‐temporal correlation of traffic sequences will benefit to make accurate predictions of the future traffic states. In the paper, the methods of enhancing road spatial and temporal information representation are proposed. Firstly, the parameter matrix of each road is constructed to represent the road‐specific traffic patterns for the graph convolution neural network and the recurrent neural network. Then, the node embedding, and matrix factorization are used to reduce the scale of the parameter matrix. Secondly, the node embedding‐based Data Adaptive Graph Generation model was introduced to infer the indirect relationship of each node, and the gating mechanism is designed to control the weights of the direct spatial information and the indirect spatial information. Thirdly, to enhance the traffic sequence representation, the time tag and peak tag for the sequences are designed at each sampling moment. At last, the Enhanced Road Information Representation in Graph Recurrent Network (En‐GRN) is proposed to predict traffic speed, and the prediction performance is tested on SZ‐taxi and Los‐loop dataset. Parent and child endorsement of reactive aggression both predict the emergence of child aggression, but they are rarely studied together and in longitudinal contexts. The present study does so by examining the unique predictive effects of parent and child endorsement of reactive aggression at age 8 on child aggression at age 9 in 1456 children from 13 cultural groups in 9 nations. Multiple group structural equation models explored whether age 8 child and parent endorsement of reactive aggression predicted subsequent age 9 child endorsement of reactive aggression and child aggression, after accounting for prior child aggression and parent education. Results revealed that greater parent endorsement of reactive aggression at age 8 predicted greater child endorsement of aggression at age 9, that greater parent endorsement of reactive aggression at age 8 uniquely predicted greater aggression at age 9 in girls, and that greater child endorsement of reactive aggression at age 8 uniquely predicted greater aggression at age 9 in boys. The coupling physics between multiple coaxial antennas separated axially along plasma column produced by helicon antenna are investigated. Experiments are carried out on a recently built device, named Physics ANd Thruster oriented HElicon Research (PANTHER) with the upgrade of second‐stage antennas. Mutual induction currents on these antennas are measured for two cases: without plasma discharge and with plasma discharge, respectively. It is found that the existence of a plasma column going through these antennas increases the coupling effects among them significantly. Theoretical analyses from the perspectives of transformer and magnetic permeability and moment confirm the reasonability of this phenomenon. Equivalent circuit models and governing equations are provided for preliminary analyses, covering both single‐antenna‐driven cases and dual‐antenna‐driven cases. The effects of confining magnetic field and background pressure on the mutual coupling are shown as well. This work is of particular interest for electrodeless plasma source or thruster which employs multiple coaxial antennas for ionization and acceleration. In recent decades, life history theory (LHT) has provided an important theoretical framework for understanding human individual differences and their developmental processes. The conceptual complexity and multidisciplinary connections involved in the LH research, however, might appear daunting to psychologists whose research might otherwise benefit from the LH perspective. The main purpose of this review, therefore, is to introduce the evolutionary biological backgrounds and basic principles of LHT as well as their applications in developmental psychology. This review is organized into five parts, starting with an overview of key concepts in LHT, which clarifies the relationship among LH strategy, LH‐related traits, and the fast–slow paradigm of LH variation. We proceed to review theoretical and empirical work related to four basic LH trade‐offs, summarized by an integrated descriptive model of LH trade‐offs that shape different LH strategies in humans. We then explain the effects of four aspects of environmental risks (morbidity‐mortality threats, competition, resource scarcity, and unpredictability) on human LH strategy. This is followed by a discussion of LH calibration models in evolutionary developmental psychology that explicates the environmentally sensitive developmental processes that contribute to variation and plasticity in LH‐related traits and ultimately human LH strategies. Finally, we highlight a few outstanding questions and future directions for LH research in psychology and conclude with why we think it is important that developmental psychology should embrace the LH approach. This study examined the effects of test anxiety on working memory capacity. Studies have demonstrated that individuals with trait social anxiety disorder exhibit increased visual working memory capacity and that those with trait anxiety exhibit decreased working memory capacity. Test anxiety may also induce unique effects on individuals' working memory capacity, and we thus employed the change detection task to explore such effects. Participants were divided into high‐ and low‐test anxiety groups. We used K score and contralateral delay activity (CDA) amplitude to measure working memory capacity, focusing on processing effectiveness and efficiency. The study results revealed that deficits in the working memory capacity of individuals in the high test anxiety group manifested in the CDA amplitude rather than in the K score. The CDA amplitude of the high test anxiety group did not increase after load 3, and that of the low test anxiety group did not increase after load 4. No difference was observed in the K scores of the two groups. The study concluded that test anxiety impairs processing efficiency but not processing effectiveness. Existing research on anxiety subtypes and working memory capacity has been less than conclusive concerning a few functional and dysfunctional details of the two processes. Findings from the present experiment point to a few nuances that should provide clearer directions for future research. First, deficits in the working memory capacity of individuals suffering high test anxiety are manifested in contralateral delay activity (CDA) amplitude but not in K scores. Second, test anxiety thus may impair processing efficiency but not necessarily processing effectiveness. More specifically, the CDA amplitude of the high test anxiety group does not seem to increase after load 3, that of the low test anxiety group does not increase after load 4, and there is no difference in K scores between the two groups. Families from nine countries (N = 1,338) were interviewed annually seven times (Mage child = 7–15) to test specificity and commonality in parenting behaviors associated with child flourishing and moderation of associations by normativeness of parenting. Participants included 1,338 children (M = 8.59 years, SD = 0.68, range = 7–11 years; 50% girls), their mothers (N = 1,283, M = 37.04 years, SD = 6.51, range = 19–70 years), and their fathers (N = 1,170, M = 40.19 years, SD = 6.75, range = 22–76 years) at Wave 1 of 7 annual waves collected between 2008 and 2017. Families were recruited from 12 ethnocultural groups in nine countries including: Shanghai, China (n = 123); Medellín, Colombia (n = 108); Naples (n = 102) and Rome (n = 111), Italy; Zarqa, Jordan (n = 114); Kisumu, Kenya (n = 100); Manila, Philippines (n = 120); Trollhättan & Vänersborg, Sweden (n = 129); Chiang Mai, Thailand (n = 120); and Durham, NC, United States (n = 110 White, n = 102 Black, n = 99 Latinx). Intergenerational parenting (parenting passed from Generation 1 to Generation 2) demonstrated specificity. Children from cultures with above‐average G2 parent warmth experienced the most benefit from the intergenerational transmission of warmth, whereas children from cultures with below‐average G2 hostility, neglect, and rejection were best protected from deleterious intergenerational effects of parenting behaviors on flourishing. Single‐generation parenting (Generation 2 parenting directly associated with Generation 3 flourishing) demonstrated commonality. Parent warmth promoted, and parent hostility, neglect, and rejection impeded the development of child flourishing largely regardless of parenting norms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The COVID‐19 pandemic is but one of many instances of environmental adversities that have recurred in human history. Biobehavioral resource allocation strategies, known as fast (reproduction‐focused) versus slow (development‐focused) life history (LH) tradeoff strategies, evolved to deal with environmental challenges such as infectious diseases. Based on 141 young people and their mothers observed prior to (ages 9 and 13) and during (age 20) COVID‐19, we investigated longitudinal relations involving slow LH strategies. The results support the adaptive role of slow LH strategies in reducing COVID‐related increases in externalizing problems. In addition, the effect of early adversity on COVID‐related increases in externalizing was mediated, and the effect on COVID‐related increases in internalizing was moderated, by slow LH strategies. Objective: The purpose of this hospital clinic based study was to evaluate the potential risk factors associated with the prevalence of MetS in RA population. Methods: From January 2015 to October 2018, 717 patients with RA and 717 healthy controls who were treated or performed physical examination in Tianjin First Central Hospital were enrolled in this study. The basic disease diagnoses were recorded. A questionnaire was performed on all participants to assess the demographic details of the RA cohort. Moreover, laboratory indicators related to glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with RA were also detected. The potential risk factors for MetS were also analyzed. Results: The prevalence of MetS were 31.2% and 34.2% in case and control groups, respectively (P =.22). There were lower levels of HDL‐C, obesity, TG, LDL‐C and TC in case group than control group (all P <.05). The hypertension levels in healthy controls was decreased in compared with patients with RA (P <.05). Nevertheless, in patients with RA, complement 3 (OR: 1.02; 95% CI: 1.01‐1.03, P =.007) and less glucocorticoids use (OR: 0.63, 95% CI: 0.39‐0.99, P =.046) were associated with MetS. Conclusion: The prevalence of MetS was not associated with RA. Complement 3 may be associated with the higher prevalence of MetS in patients with RA. Children, mothers, and fathers in 12 ethnic and regional groups in nine countries (N = 1,338 families) were interviewed annually for 8 years (Mage child = 8–16 years) to model four domains of parenting as a function of child age, puberty, or both. Latent growth curve models revealed that for boys and girls, parents decrease their warmth, behavioral control, rules/limit‐setting, and knowledge solicitation in conjunction with children's age and pubertal status as children develop from ages 8 to 16 across a range of diverse contexts, with steeper declines after age 11 or 12 in three of the four parenting domains. Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is extremely rare after shoulder arthroscopy. However, early identification of the situation deserves attention due to its potential risk of causing death. By now, it is still difficult to detect the PE without symptoms and clear sources during the perioperative period. Case presentation: We report here two cases of asymptomatic PE, both happening within 24 h after shoulder arthroscopy, without any detected deep venous thrombosis of extremities. It is suspected the cases were due to the abnormal decrease in partial pressures of oxygen and arterial oxygen saturation, and were confirmed by computed tomography pulmonary angiography. We also discuss the reason why the patients showed no related symptoms when PE occurred and perform a review of PE following shoulder arthroscopy. Conclusions: This report highlights that PE could occur in the early phase after shoulder arthroscopy. An unexplained decrease in partial pressure of oxygen or arterial oxygen saturation should be considered seriously. The symptoms of PE might be masked due to patients' tolerance to hypoxia. A compact wideband four‐arm circularly polarized (CP) spiral antenna with both sum mode (1) and difference mode (2) is presented. The antenna is composed of a modified four‐arm equiangular spiral, a four‐arm z‐directional helix, a ring‐shaped absorber, and a ground plane. By using the modified equiangular spiral and the z‐directional helix, the impedance matching of mode 1 and mode 2 is improved, and the cross‐polarization discrimination of mode 2 is also improved in the low frequency band. The z‐directional helix is also applied to achieve a compact size of the antenna and an enhanced AR bandwidth of mode 2. A prototype of the four‐arm spiral antenna is fabricated and measured with a beamformer operating at 0.5 to 2 GHz. It is shown that both sum and difference radiation patterns are generated in the whole frequency band of 0.5 to 2 GHz. Environmental enrichment (EE) is a generally accepted strategy to promote stroke recovery and its beneficial effect is positively correlated with neuroplasticity. However, the mechanisms underlying it remain elusive. Histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2), a negative regulator of neuroplasticity, is up‐regulated after stroke. Thus, we hypothesized that HDAC2 may participate in EE‐mediated stroke recovery. In this study, focal stroke was induced by photothrombosis in male mice exposing to EE or standard housing (SH) conditions. Recombinant virus vectors, including Ad‐HDAC2‐Flag, AAV‐CAG‐EGFP‐Cre, LV‐shHDAC2, or their controls were microinjected into the motor cortex at 3 days before stroke. Grid‐walking and cylinder tasks were conducted to assess motor function. Western blot and immunostaining were used to uncover the mechanisms underlying EE‐mediated stroke recovery. We found that EE exposure reversed stroke‐induced HDAC2 up‐regulation, implicating HDAC2 in EE‐mediated functional recovery. Importantly, EE‐dependent stroke recovery was counteracted by over‐expressing HDAC2, and HDAC2 knockdown promoted functional recovery from stroke to the similar extent as EE exposure. Moreover, the knockdown of HDAC2 epigenetically enhanced expressions of neurotrophins and neuroplasticity‐related proteins, with similar effects as EE, and consequently, whole brain and corticospinal tract (CST) rewiring. Together, our findings indicate that HDAC2 is critical for EE‐dependent functional restoration. Precisely targeting HDAC2 may mimic EE and serve as a novel therapeutic strategy for stroke recovery. We investigated the effects of parental warmth and behavioral control on externalizing and internalizing symptom trajectories from ages 8 to 14 in 1,298 adolescents from 12 cultural groups. We did not find that single universal trajectories characterized adolescent externalizing and internalizing symptoms across cultures, but instead found significant heterogeneity in starting points and rates of change in both externalizing and internalizing symptoms across cultures. Some similarities did emerge. Across many cultural groups, internalizing symptoms decreased from ages 8 to 10, and externalizing symptoms increased from ages 10 to 14. Parental warmth appears to function similarly in many cultures as a protective factor that prevents the onset and growth of adolescent externalizing and internalizing symptoms, whereas the effects of behavioral control vary from culture to culture. Background and Purpose: Anxiety disorder is a common mental health disorder. However, there are few safe and fast-acting anxiolytic drugs available that can treat anxiety disorder. We previously demonstrated that the interaction of neuronal NOS (nNOS) with its carboxy-terminal PDZ ligand (CAPON) is involved in regulating anxiety-related behaviours. Here, we further investigated the anxiolytic effects of nNOS-CAPON disruptors in chronic stress-induced anxiety in animals.Experimental Approach: Mice were intravenously treated with nNOS-CAPON disruptors, ZLc-002 or Tat-CAPON12C, at the last week of chronic mild stress (CMS) exposure. We also infused corticosterone (CORT) into the hippocampus of mice to model anxiety behaviours and also delivered ZLc-002 or Tat-CAPON12C on the last week of chronic CORT treatment via pre-implanted cannula. Anxiety-related behaviours were examined using elevated plus maze, open field, novelty-suppressed feeding and light-dark (LD) tests. The level of nNOS-CAPON interaction was determined by co-immunoprecipitation (CO-IP) and proximity ligation assay (PLA). The neural mechanisms underlying the behavioural effects of nNOS-CAPON uncoupling in anxiety animal models were assessed by western blot, immunofluorescence and Golgi-Cox staining.Key Results: ZLc-002 and Tat-CAPON12C reversed CMS- or CORT-induced anxiety-related behaviours. ZLc-002 and Tat-CAPON12C increased synaptogenesis along with improved dendritic remodelling in CMS mice or CORT-treated cultured neurons. Meanwhile, blocking nNOS-CAPON interaction significantly activated the cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB)-brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) pathway, which is associated with synaptic plasticity.Conclusion and Implications: Collectively, these results provide evidence for the anxiolytic effects of nNOS-CAPON uncouplers and their underlying mechanisms in anxiety disorders. We investigated whether bidirectional associations between parental warmth and behavioral control and child aggression and rule-breaking behavior emerged in 12 cultural groups. Study participants included 1,298 children (M = 8.29 years, standard deviation [SD] = 0.66, 51% girls) from Shanghai, China (n = 121); Medellín, Colombia (n = 108); Naples (n = 100) and Rome (n = 103), Italy; Zarqa, Jordan (n = 114); Kisumu, Kenya (n = 100); Manila, Philippines (n = 120); Trollhättan/Vänersborg, Sweden (n = 101); Chiang Mai, Thailand (n = 120); and Durham, NC, United States (n = 111 White, n = 103 Black, n = 97 Latino) followed over 5 years (i.e., ages 8-13). Warmth and control were measured using the Parental Acceptance-Rejection/Control Questionnaire, child aggression and rule-breaking were measured using the Achenbach System of Empirically-Based Assessment. Multiple-group structural equation modeling was conducted. Associations between parent warmth and subsequent rule-breaking behavior were found to be more common across ontogeny and demonstrate greater variability across different cultures than associations between warmth and subsequent aggressive behavior. In contrast, the evocative effects of child aggressive behavior on subsequent parent warmth and behavioral control were more common, especially before age 10, than those of rule-breaking behavior. Considering the type of externalizing behavior, developmental time point, and cultural context is essential to understanding how parenting and child behavior reciprocally affect one another. A novel antenna that can generate plasma efficiently for pressure up to thousands of Pascal with 1 kW–13.56 MHz radio‐frequency power supply is reported. It consists of two isolated solenoids so that involves both capacitively coupling and inductively coupling effects, together with magnetic mirror effect which confines the formed plasma axially to a certain extent. Experiments show that the novel discharge has directional preference depending on the applied voltage, a character of dielectric barrier discharge, and can run steadily for tens of hours without severe thermal load. Simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics reveal consistent variations of electron temperature and electron density with base pressure, input power, separation distance of isolated solenoids, and the number of turns of each solenoid. Background: Studies of U.S. and European samples demonstrate that parental warmth and behavioral control predict child internalizing behaviors and vice versa. However, these patterns have not been researched in other cultures. This study investigates associations between parent warmth and control and three child‐reported internalizing behavior clusters to examine this question. Methods: Data from 12 cultural groups in 9 countries were used to investigate prospective bidirectional associations between parental warmth and control, and three child‐reported internalizing behavior types: withdrawn/depressed, anxious/depressed, and somatic problems. Multiple‐group structural equation modeling was used to analyze associations in children followed from ages 8 to 12. Results: Parent warmth and control effects were most pervasive on child‐reported withdrawn/depressed problems, somewhat pervasive on anxious/depressed problems and least pervasive on somatic problems. Additionally, parental warmth, as opposed to control, was more consistently associated with child‐reported internalizing problems across behavior clusters. Child internalizing behavior effects on parental warmth and control appeared ubiquitously across cultures, and behaviors, but were limited to ages 8–10. Most effects were pancultural, but culture‐specific effects emerged at ages 9–10 involving the associations between parent warmth and withdrawn/depressed and somatic behaviors. Conclusions: Effects of parent warmth and control appear stronger on some types of child‐reported internalizing behaviors. Associations are especially strong with regard to parental warmth across cultures, and culture‐specific effects may be accounted for by cultural normativeness of parent warmth and child‐reported somatic symptoms. Background: Anxiety is a common disorder with high social burden worldwide. Dysfunction of serotonin‐1A receptor (5‐HT1A receptor) in the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus has been predominantly implicated in the anxiety behavior. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the deficiency of postsynaptic 5‐HT1A receptor in regulating anxiety behavior remains unclear. Methods: Using pharmacological and genetic methods, we investigated the role of detate nNOS in 5‐HT1A receptor decline and anxiety behavior induced by chronic mild stress (CMS) in mice. Results: Here we showed that local elevation of glucocorticoids in the DG accounted for chronic stress‐induced anxiety behavior. Neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) mediated chronic stress‐induced downregulation of 5‐HT1A receptor in the DG through peroxynitrite anion (ONOO•) pathway but not cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) pathway. By using pharmacological tool drugs and nNOS knockout mice, we found that nNOS in the DG played a key role in chronic stress‐induced anxiety behavior. Conclusions: These findings uncovered an important role of nNOS‐5‐HT1A receptor pathway in the DG of the hippocampus in chronic stress‐induced anxiety. Nowadays, tissue engineering vascularisation has become an important means of organ repair and treatment of major traumatic diseases. Vascular endothelial layer regeneration and endothelial functionalisation are prerequisites and important components of tissue engineering vascularisation. The present researches of endothelial functionalisation mainly focus on tissue engineering scaffold preparation and implant surface modification. Few studies have reported the interaction of endothelial functionalisation and scaled materials, especially the nanomaterials. Magnesium (Mg), as an essential cytotropic active element in the human body, should promote the growth of endothelial cells. However, the authors' previous work found that the Mg in the alloys had a defect of delayed endothelialisation, which may be attributed to the non‐uniform scales of the degradation products from Mg alloys. To validate this hypothesis and fabricate a novel nanomaterial for tissue engineering vascularisation, the authors prepared Mg‐doped hyaluronan (HA)/polyethyleneimine (PEI) nanoparticles for endothelial cells testing. Their data showed that the Mg‐doped HA/PEI nanoparticle with small scales (diameter <150 nm) presented better ability on improving endothelial cells growth, functionalisation and nitric oxide release. To optimize thrust performance, the expression of space‐charge‐limited current for vacuum arc thruster is derived from Poisson's equation. The commonly used ring‐type and coaxial‐type vacuum arc thrusters are simplified to the equivalent current sheet in planar geometry and cylindrical capacitor, respectively, for this calculation. Both the spatial distribution and peak magnitude of space‐charge‐limited current are given explicitly, together with their dependences on gap distance, applied voltage, charge number, and ion mass. For typical experimental parameters of the vacuum arc thruster, it is shown that the maximum current density drops significantly when the gap distance becomes large and grows when the applied voltage increases; moreover, a cathode material of lower atomic weight yields a higher current density. The expressions of total current for these two types of vacuum arc thruster are also presented. This work, to our best knowledge, is the first application of space‐charge‐limited current to the vacuum arc thruster and practically very interesting for engineering design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Straw mulching is widely used in agriculture to conserve soil water and improve crop productivity. The effects of straw strip mulching and film mulching on dryland soil water storage and temperature, potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) growth and yield, and water use efficiency (WUE) were examined from 2014 to 2015 in the rainfed semi‐arid regions of China. Field experiments were conducted with four treatments: (a) alternating strips mulched with maize (Zea mays L.) straw and bare plots with no ridges (SM); (b) alternating large ridges and small furrows with only the ridges mulched with black polyethylene film (PMP); (c) alternating narrows and wide ridges both mulched by black polyethylene film (PMF), and (d) traditional bare land planting without mulching (CK). The results indicated that film mulching had positive effects on soil water storage at the early stage of potato growth, while the SM significantly improved soil water storage at the late growth stage. Soil water storage (0–2‐m depth) was 11.3–35.4 mm greater with the SM than that with the other treatments, especially during the tuber bulking in summer drought period. Compared with the CK, the SM significantly decreased soil temperature by 0.8–1.4°C, and increased potato yield by 10.5–34.2%, WUE by 8.9–29.8%, and commodity rate by 14.7–38.8%. Compared with the PMP and PMF, the SM increased potato yield by 4.6–12.9 and 3.4–9.3%, respectively. Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate whether an innovative way of administering tranexamic acid (TXA), that is, injecting it retrogradely through the drain and clamping it for 1 h, can reduce postoperative bleeding after degenerative lumbar scoliosis surgery. Methods: Sixty degenerative lumbar scoliosis patients who underwent posterior lumbar decompression with fusion of three or more levels were retrospectively enrolled and categorized into three groups (TXA, Gelfoam, and control groups). The demographic distribution, operative parameters, length and amount of Hemovac drainage, blood transfusion rate, length of stay, laboratory results (complete blood count and coagulogram), and the postoperative complications were collected and analyzed. Results: The age of patients in the Gelfoam group was significantly younger than in the TXA and control groups (59.75 ± 6.95 vs 66.10 ± 8.80, P = 0.016 and 59.75 ± 6.95 vs 67.90 ± 5.33, P = 0.000, respectively). There were no significant differences in sex, body mass index, comorbid medical status, and operation level between each of the two groups. The three groups did not differ significantly in estimated blood loss during surgery, the mean red blood cell transfusion requirement during hospitalization, and the entire perioperative allogenic blood transfusion rate. The postoperative total blood loss and total drainage were lower in the TXA group than in the control group (1027.14 ± 466.56 vs 1390.07 ± 314.85 mL, P = 0.006; 322.20 ± 187.32 vs 605.50 ± 184.70 mL, P = 0.000, respectively). The length of drainage retention in the TXA group was significantly shorter than in the Gelfoam and control groups (46.10 ± 9.00 vs 68.00 ± 12.31 h, P = 0.000 and 46.10 ± 9.00 vs 76.40 ± 10.97 h, P = 0.000, respectively). The TXA and Gelfoam groups also had significantly shorter hospital stays than the control group (7.50 ± 0.95 vs 9.80 ± 2.44 days, P = 0.000, and 7.90 ± 1.16 vs 9.80 ± 2.44 days, P = 0.003, respectively). At discharge, the mean hemoglobin and hematocrit level were significantly higher in the TXA group compared with the control group (11.77 ± 1.78 g/dL vs 10.67 ± 0.94 g/dL, P = 0.002; 34.82 ± 3.57% vs 31.79 ± 3.85%, P = 0.014). No significant difference was identified with respect to prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and D‐dimmer among groups (P > 0.05). The three groups were comparable in wound problem incidences. Symptomatic deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism were not observed in this study. Conclusion: Topical injection of TXA retrogradely via a drain at the end of a degenerative lumbar scoliosis operation and clamping the drain for an hour can effectively decrease the postoperative blood loss and the length of hospitalization without increasing the complication rate. This study investigated the association between perceived material deprivation, children's behavior problems, and parents' disciplinary practices. The sample included 1,418 8- to 12-year-old children and their parents in China, Colombia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, the Philippines, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States. Multilevel mixed- and fixed-effects regression models found that, even when income remained stable, perceived material deprivation was associated with children's externalizing behavior problems and parents' psychological aggression. Parents' disciplinary practices mediated a small share of the association between perceived material deprivation and children's behavior problems. There were no differences in these associations between mothers and fathers or between high- and low- and middle-income countries. Infantile hemangioma (IH) is a type of benign tumor that develops during infancy and spontaneously involutes after 1 year of age. Before the introduction of propranolol in 2008, some patients with IH were instructed to wait for the involution without treatment. This long‐term follow‐up study was conducted to assess the prognosis of East‐Asian children with untreated deep or mixed facial IH. Skin sequelae were assessed by comparing images obtained during the patients' first and last visits in our clinic. Possible factors were assessed for their association with IH prognosis. The mean follow‐up time was 7.4 years. Among the 48 patients with deep or mixed facial IH, 26 (54%) achieved complete involution without sequelae and 22 encountered various sequelae, including telangiectasia (36.3%), fibrofatty residue (68.2%), and scars (4%). The complete regression rate of deep or mixed IH occurring in the central facial region was significantly lower than for those in the perifacial region (33.3% vs 66.7%, respectively, χ2, P = 0.025). This study starts with the engineering modelling of SAR image features, analyses the platform elements that affect the image features, and designs the acquisition flow of samples and parameters. The two-dimensional SAR image of the target is processed by three-dimensional inverse projection and projected to the geometric model of the candidate target, and the three-dimensional inverse projection scattering graph of the target is obtained. At the same time, the high-frequency electromagnetic scattering calculation method is used to predict the 3D hot spot distribution of each candidate target, to improve the recognition accuracy of the target, and to achieve the goal of target interpretation. Rationale: LysargiNase is a novel characterized metalloprotease that can cleave the N‐terminii of lysine or arginine residues. The peptides generated by LysargiNase are just mirrors to those generated by trypsin. These characteristics of LysargiNase provide a powerful tool for mass spectrometry (MS)‐based proteomics research. A highly active and stable LysargiNase produced by an easy and inexpensive method could greatly benefit proteomics research. Here, we report the soluble recombinant expression, purification and acetyl modification of LysargiNase in Escherichia coli. Methods: The coding sequence of LysargiNase with an enterokinase cleavage site at the N‐terminus was inserted into plasmid pGEX‐4 T‐2 and transformed into E. coli BL21 (DE3). The strain was cultured in a 14‐L fermenter with a working volume of 5 L. The protein expression was induced by adding isopropyl‐β‐D‐thiogalactoside (IPTG) to a final concentration of 1 mM. The recombinant LysargiNase was loaded onto a GSTrap and an on‐column digestion was performed to remove the GST tag and was subsequently purified by chromatographic purification. In vitro acetylation of LysargiNase was performed by using acetic anhydride. The digestion efficiency and specificity of recombinant LysargiNase and acetylated LysargiNase were compared with simple protein substrate, human serum albumin (HSA), and a complex proteomic sample, yeast lysate, by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE) and liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). Results: Highly soluble expression of recombinant LysargiNase was achieved by plasmid pGEX‐4 T‐2 in E. coli BL21 (DE3). In addition, acetylation of purified LysargiNase significantly increased its resistance to autolysis, which resulted in a more complete digestion of proteomics samples and more identified peptides and proteins by LC/MS/MS. Conclusions: In this study, we constructed a highly soluble expression system for producing recombinant LysargiNase in E. coli, which gave tremendous advantages in the downstream purification process. We also confirmed that acetyl modification can increase the stability and activity of recombinant LysargiNase. The study provided a superior way to produce this powerful tool for proteomics research. Although infantile hemangiomas (IH) spontaneously involute, some leave more volumetric sequelae than others. Identifying predictors of such sequelae would provide a management reference for IH lesions and help achieve favorable outcomes. Our objective is to explore the correlation between volumetric residue remaining after IH involution and its location and to identify other potential outcome predictors. All IH patients examined at our hospital from 2008 to 2011 were reviewed, and both the degree of volumetric residue after involution and the quantified degree of sequelae were obtained by comparing follow‐up photographs with photographs of lesions at their maximum size. We discovered that for children with a defined age at the initial visit, lesions of the perifacial area achieved significantly more volumetric regression than lesions of the central facial (P < 0.0001) and chest areas (P = 0.0002). Perifacial lesions had a significantly higher aesthetic score than those on the central facial area (P < 0.0001), chest (P < 0.0001) and trunk/extremities (P = 0.0226) when the age at initial visit and lesion type were consistent. Our study reveals that lesion location and age at initial visit are contributing factors to volumetric sequelae and the aesthetics of the lesion after involution. Infantile hemangiomas (IH) undergo rapid growth during early infancy followed by gradual involution. After involution, a part of IH remain as residual lesions. Since 2008, oral propranolol has been widely used in the treatment of IH. However, long‐term outcome of IH treated with propranolol remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the sequelae of IH treated with propranolol. In this study, propranolol was given at a dose of 2 mg/kg per day at the age of 3.8 ± 2.5 months and follow‐up visits were arranged to continue at least through the age of 4 years. Types of sequela were recorded and classified as four degrees ("none", "minimal", "significant" and "severe" at last visit), then subsequent therapy was evaluated with the help of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A total of 73 patients with complete follow up were enrolled in the study. The most common types of sequela were telangiectasia, fibrofatty tissue and erythema. Significant and severe sequelae were observed in 72.4% of treated IH; superficial IH led to more but not significantly significant and severe sequelae than mixed IH (P > 0.05). Despite propranolol treatment, surgery was still needed in 37.5% of IH at a mean age of 70.3 months, and for the main reason of surgery, fibrofatty or hemangioma residua, MRI was useful for us to choose an appropriate surgical procedure. This study used data from 12 cultural groups in nine countries (China, Colombia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Philippines, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States; N = 1,298) to understand the cross‐cultural generalizability of how parental warmth and control are bidirectionally related to externalizing and internalizing behaviors from childhood to early adolescence. Mothers, fathers, and children completed measures when children were ages 8–13. Multiple‐group autoregressive, cross‐lagged structural equation models revealed that child effects rather than parent effects may better characterize how warmth and control are related to child externalizing and internalizing behaviors over time, and that parent effects may be more characteristic of relations between parental warmth and control and child externalizing and internalizing behavior during childhood than early adolescence. Abstract: Anxiety disorders are associated with a high social burden worldwide. Recently, increasing evidence suggests that nuclear factor kappa B (NF‐κB) has significant implications for psychiatric diseases, including anxiety and depressive disorders. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the role of NF‐κB in stress‐induced anxiety behaviors are poorly understood. In this study, we show that chronic mild stress (CMS) and glucocorticoids dramatically increased the expression of NF‐κB subunits p50 and p65, phosphorylation and acetylation of p65, and the level of nuclear p65 in vivo and in vitro, implicating activation of NF‐κB signaling in chronic stress‐induced pathological processes. Using the novelty‐suppressed feeding (NSF) and elevated‐plus maze (EPM) tests, we found that treatment with pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC; intra‐hippocampal infusion), an inhibitor of NF‐κB, rescued the CMS‐ or glucocorticoid‐induced anxiogenic behaviors in mice. Microinjection of PDTC into the hippocampus reversed CMS‐induced up‐regulation of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), carboxy‐terminal PDZ ligand of nNOS (CAPON), and dexamethasone‐induced ras protein 1 (Dexras1) and dendritic spine loss of dentate gyrus (DG) granule cells. Moreover, over‐expression of CAPON by infusing LV‐CAPON‐L‐GFP into the hippocampus induced nNOS‐Dexras1 interaction and anxiety‐like behaviors, and inhibition of NF‐κB by PDTC reduced the LV‐CAPON‐L‐GFP‐induced increases in nNOS‐Dexras1 complex and anxiogenic‐like effects in mice. These findings indicate that hippocampal NF‐κB mediates anxiogenic behaviors, probably via regulating the association of nNOS‐CAPON‐Dexras1, and uncover a novel approach to the treatment of anxiety disorders. The dual systems model of adolescent risk-taking portrays the period as one characterized by a combination of heightened sensation seeking and still-maturing self-regulation, but most tests of this model have been conducted in the United States or Western Europe. In the present study, these propositions are tested in an international sample of more than 5000 individuals between ages 10 and 30 years from 11 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, using a multi-method test battery that includes both self-report and performance-based measures of both constructs. Consistent with the dual systems model, sensation seeking increased between preadolescence and late adolescence, peaked at age 19, and declined thereafter, whereas self-regulation increased steadily from preadolescence into young adulthood, reaching a plateau between ages 23 and 26. Although there were some variations in the magnitude of the observed age trends, the developmental patterns were largely similar across countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
