Non‐contrast enhanced 1H magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is promising for ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) assessment of the lung but the influence of the echo time (TE) on V/Q parameters is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different TEs on pulmonary V/Q parameters derived by phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) MRI using a multi‐echo ultrashort TE (UTE) acquisition. A 2D multi‐echo UTE sequence with radial center out readout and tiny golden angle increment was developed. Forty‐eight participants were enrolled in this study: 25 healthy subjects, six patients with asthma, and 17 patients with pulmonary fibrosis. Participants underwent two acquisitions of 2D multi‐echo UTE MRI with three TEs per acquisition (TE1–6: 0.07, 0.82, 1.72, 2.47, 3.37, and 4.12 ms). Regional ventilation (RVent), flow‐volume loop cross‐correlation metric (FVL‐CM), and normalized perfusion‐weighted signal (QN) maps were calculated. V/Q defect percentages (VDP/QDP) were determined. To assess repeatability, the measurement was repeated in healthy subjects. Median and interquartile range of RVent, FVL‐CM, QN, VDP, and QDP were calculated. To assess significant differences between parameters obtained at different TEs, Friedman's test and Dunnett's test were performed. Pearson correlation coefficients between RVent derived at TE1 and the difference in RVent between TE2,3 and TE1 were calculated. For repeatability assessment, coefficient of variation (CoV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were determined. Significant differences were found comparing V/Q parameters obtained at TE3–6 compared to TE1. CoV increased with TE. For ICC, values between 0.35 (QDP at TE1) and 0.83 (VDPRVent at TE2) were obtained for T1,2. Statistically significant differences for ventilation and perfusion parameters derived by PREFUL were found for TE3–6 compared to TE1. All V/Q parameters were well repeatable for TE1–2. With increasing TE and respiratory volume, RVent shows a T2*‐dependency leading to biased ventilation assessment compared to TE1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Pulse wave velocity (PWV) in the pulmonary arteries (PA) is a marker of vascular stiffening. Currently, only phase‐contrast (PC) MRI‐based options exist to measure PA‐PWV. Purpose: To test feasibility, repeatability, and correlation to clinical data of Phase‐Resolved Functional Lung (PREFUL) MRI‐based calculation of PA‐PWV. Study Type: Retrospective. Subjects: 79 (26 female) healthy subjects (age range 19–78), 58 (24 female) patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, age range 40–77), 60 (33 female) patients with suspected pulmonary hypertension (PH, age range 28–85). Sequence: 2D spoiled gradient echo, 1.5T. Assessment: PA‐PWV was measured from PREFUL‐derived cardiac cycles based on the determination of temporal and spatial distance between lung vasculature voxels using a simplified (sPWV) method and a more comprehensive (cPWV) method including more elaborate distance calculation. For 135 individuals, PC MRI‐based PWV (PWV‐QA) was measured. Statistical Tests: Intraclass‐correlation‐coefficient (ICC) and coefficient of variation (CoV) were used to test repeatability. Nonparametric tests were used to compare cohorts. Correlation of sPWV/cPWV, PWV‐QA, forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (FEV1) %predicted, residual volume (RV) %predicted, age, and right heart catheterization (RHC) data were tested. Significance level α = 0.05 was used. Results: sPWV and cPWV showed no significant differences between repeated measurements (P‐range 0.10–0.92). CoV was generally lower than 15%. COPD and PH patients had significantly higher sPWV and cPWV than healthy subjects. Significant correlation was found between sPWV or cPWV and FEV1%pred. (R = −0.36 and R = −0.44), but not with RHC (P‐range −0.11 − 0.91) or age (P‐range 0.23–0.89). Correlation to RV%pred. was significant for cPWV (R = 0.42) but not for sPWV (R = 0.34, P = 0.055). For all cohorts, sPWV and cPWV were significantly correlated with PWV‐QA (R = −0.41 and R = 0.48). Data Conclusion: PREFUL‐derived PWV is feasible and repeatable. Phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) MRI is a proton‐based, contrast agent‐free technique derived from the Fourier decomposition approach to measure regional ventilation and perfusion dynamics during free‐breathing. Besides the necessity of extensive PREFUL postprocessing, the utilized MRI sequence must fulfill specific requirements. This study investigates the impact of sequence selection on PREFUL‐MRI–derived functional parameters by comparing the standard spoiled gradient echo (SPGRE) sequence with a lung‐optimized balanced steady‐state free precession (bSSFP) sequence, thereby facilitating PREFULs clinical application in pulmonary disease assessment. This study comprised a prospective dataset of healthy volunteers and a retrospective dataset of patients with suspected chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Both cohorts underwent PREFUL‐MRI with both sequences to assess the correspondence of PREFUL ventilation and perfusion parameters (A). Additionally, healthy subjects were scanned a second time to evaluate repeatability (B), whereas patients received dynamic contrast‐enhanced (DCE)‐MRI, considered the perfusion gold standard for comparison with PREFUL‐MRI (C). Signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR), calculated from the unprocessed images, was compared alongside median differences of PREFUL‐MRI–derived parameters using a paired Wilcoxon signed rank test. Further evaluations included calculation of the Pearson correlation, intraclass‐correlation coefficient for repeatability assessment, and spatial overlap (SO) for regional comparison of PREFUL‐MRI and DCE‐MRI. bSSFP showed a clear SNR advantage over SPGRE (median: 23 vs. 9, p < 0.001). After thresholding, binary maps showed high healthy overlap across both cohorts (SOHealthy > 86%) and high defect overlap in the patient cohort (SODefect ≥ 48%). Background: Non‐contrast‐enhanced 1H magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with full lung coverage shows promise for assessment of regional lung ventilation but a comparison with direct ventilation measurement using 19F MRI is lacking. Purpose: To compare ventilation parameters calculated using 3D phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) MRI with 19F MRI. Study Type: Prospective. Population: Fifteen patients with asthma, 14 patients with chronic obstructive lung disease, and 13 healthy volunteers. Field Strength/Sequence: A 3D gradient‐echo pulse sequence with golden‐angle increment and stack‐of‐stars encoding at 1.5 T. Assessment: All participants underwent 3D PREFUL MRI and 19F MRI. For 3D PREFUL, static regional ventilation (RVent) and dynamic flow‐volume cross‐correlation metric (FVL‐CM) were calculated. For both parameters, ventilation defect percentage (VDP) values and ventilation defect (VD) maps (including a combination of both parameters [VDPCombined]) were determined. For 19F MRI, images from eight consecutive breaths under volume‐controlled inhalation of perfluoropropane were acquired. Time‐to‐fill (TTF) and wash‐in (WI) parameters were extracted. For all 19F parameters, a VD map was generated and the corresponding VDP values were calculated. Statistical Tests: For all parameters, the relationship between the two techniques was assessed using a Spearman correlation (r). Differences between VDP values were compared using Bland–Altman analysis. For regional comparison of VD maps, spatial overlap and Sørensen–Dice coefficients were computed. Results: 3D PREFUL VDP values were significantly correlated to VDP measures by 19F (r range: 0.59–0.70). For VDPRVent, no significant bias was observed with VDP of the third and fourth breath (bias range = −6.8:7.7%, P range = 0.25:0.30). For VDPFVL‐CM, no significant bias was found with VDP values of fourth–eighth breaths (bias range = −2.0:12.5%, P range = 0.12:0.75). The overall spatial overlap of all VD maps increased with each breath, ranging from 61% to 81%, stabilizing at the fourth breath. Data Conclusion: 3D PREFUL MRI parameters showed moderate to strong correlation with 19F MRI. Organization of healthcare strongly differs between European countries and results in country‐specific requirements in postgraduate medical training. Within the European Union (EU), the European Board of Anaesthesiology has set recommendations of training for the Specialty of Anaesthesiology including standards for Postgraduate Medical Specialist training including a description for providing service in pediatric anesthesia. However, these standards are advisory and not mandatory. Here we aimed to review the current state and associated challenges of pediatric anesthesia training in Europe. We report an important country‐specific variability both in training and regulations of practice of pediatric anesthesia in the EU and in the United Kingdom. The requirements for training in pediatric anesthesia varies between nothing specified (Belgium) or providing anesthesia with direct supervision to a minimum of 50 cases below 5 years of age (Germany) to 3–6 month clinical practice in a specialized pediatric hospital (France). Likewise, the regulations for providing anesthesia to children varies from no regulations at all (Belgium) to age specific requirements and centralization of all children below 4 years of age to specified centers (United Kingdom). Officially recognized pediatric anesthesia fellowship programs are not available in most countries of Europe. It remains unclear if and how country‐specific differences in pediatric anesthesia training are associated with clinical outcomes in pediatric perioperative care. Highly sensitive vertically aligned carbon nanotube arrays (VANTAs) interdigitated electrode (IDE) arrays are developed for electrochemical biosensing of two cytokines (i.e., interleukin‐10 (IL‐10) and interferon‐gamma (IFN‐γ)) that are useful for early detection Johne's disease (Bovine Paratuberculosis) in cattle. The high aspect ratio VANTA‐IDEs (50–60 µm in height) are grown through a chemical vapor deposition process from an iron (Fe) catalyst that is lithographically patterned on a silicon wafer with equal finger width and inter‐finger spacing of 25 µm. After functionalization with distinct antibodies the VANTA‐IDEs are capable of selective detection of both IL‐10 and IFN‐γ within an actual biological matrix (i.e., diluted bovine implant supernatant) over concentration ranges of 0.1 to 30 pg mL−1 (limit of detection – LOD: 0.0911 pg mL−1) and 50–500 pg mL−1 (LOD: 24.17 pg mL−1), respectively with a response time of <35 min. Results demonstrate important initial steps for rapid, pen‐side identification of cattle with stage‐I Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis infection before physical symptoms of Johne's disease are present. Such a rapid pen‐side diagnostic test can be used on cattle at an auction or before they are introduced to a herd to ensure the larger population does not become infected with Johne's disease. Extensive research into green technologies is driven by the worldwide push for eco‐friendly materials and energy solutions. The focus is on synergies that prioritize sustainability and environmental benefits. This study explores the potential of abundant, non‐toxic, and sustainable resources such as paper, lignin‐enriched paper, and cork for producing laser‐induced graphene (LIG) supercapacitor electrodes with improved capacitance. A single‐step methodology using a CO2 laser system is developed for fabricating these electrodes under ambient conditions, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional carbon sources. The resulting green micro‐supercapacitors (MSCs) achieve impressive areal capacitance (≈7–10 mF cm−2) and power and energy densities (≈4 μW cm‐2 and ≈0.77 µWh cm−2 at 0.01 mA cm−2). Stability tests conducted over 5000 charge–discharge cycles demonstrate a capacitance retention of ≈80–85%, highlighting the device durability. These LIG‐based devices offer versatility, allowing voltage output adjustment through stacked and sandwich MSCs configurations (parallel or series), suitable for various large‐scale applications. This study demonstrates that it is possible to create high‐quality energy storage devices based on biodegradable materials. Various aspects of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) continue to be integrated in the wildlife conservation and management discourse; however, there may be challenges in cross‐cultural understanding of the complex social‐ecological systems that make up the fabric of TEK. In a 2‐phased approach, we implemented research to better understand an Indigenous perspective of human–wildlife relationship. In phase 1, we conducted 16 semi‐structured interviews with Yurok and Yurok‐affiliated people about the relationship of Yurok people with wildlife and Yurok community hunting values. In phase 2, we conducted a secondary analysis of a subset of 10 interviews from phase 1. Permissions were obtained from the Yurok Tribe, under the project's previously established Institutional Review Board process, to access archived interview data for subsequent research relevant to the original research goals. We identified the following themes: Yurok conceptualizations of wildlife, cultural understanding of animals as people, animal harvesting protocols, cultural guidelines that maintain wildlife populations, and consequences for not following cultural guidelines as related to hunting. We explored how the terms wildlife and wildlife management are difficult to interpret within the context of Yurok TEK, as wildlife, in the same meaning as Western wildlife management, does not exist in the Yurok cultural paradigm. A fundamental, multifaceted aspect of the Yurok–wildlife relationship through a TEK context is the concept of animals as people, which we discuss in relation to Yurok spirituality. As Indigenous Knowledge continues to be recognized in scientific discourse, there may be opportunities to reconceptualize, Indigenize, and shift approaches to research, wildlife and wildlife habitat management, and conservation. Results of our study may support Yurok Tribe wildlife managers, Western‐trained biologists, and others in their considerations of Indigenous Knowledge in wildlife management and conservation. In competitive and elite sports, mental health and athletic performance cannot be considered separately. Mental disorders in sports are bidirectionally associated with reduced athletic performance. A decline in performance, both within and outside of sport, can be a sign of mental disorder. Additionally, poor athletic performance is a potential risk factor for mental disorders in athletes. The central role sports psychiatrists play in the mental health of athletes is well‐established. However, their role in athletic performance is less well‐described and more controversial, perhaps due to a perception that performance is purely a secondary outcome of good mental health. This paper discusses the role that sports psychiatrists can play in athletic performance within competitive and elite sports. Performance can be distinguished into three key focus areas for sports psychiatrists: (i) performance restoration, (ii) performance maintenance, and (iii) performance enhancement. These should be considered throughout the continuum of mental health care, from prevention, treatment, to ongoing care for mental disorders. When reduced performance is due to a mental disorder, psychiatric treatment should purposefully aim to restore functioning and performance as part of management. Maintenance of performance is, similarly, an important element of the prevention, psychiatric treatment, and ongoing care of mental disorders. Holistic sports psychiatrists may also choose to aim for athletic performance enhancement beyond the context of mental health symptoms and disorders, to help athletes flourish and achieve their goals. Drosophila suzukii (D. suzukii), commonly known as the spotted wing drosophila, is a highly invasive crop pest that is difficult to control using chemical insecticides. To address the urgent need for alternative and more sustainable control strategies, the sterile insect technique (SIT) is improved, which involves the release of sterilized male insects to mate with fertile conspecifics, thereby reducing the size of the pest population in the subsequent generation. The three critical aspects that influence the success of SIT programs in D. suzukii are addressed. First, an accurate and nondestructive method is established to determine the sex of individual insects based on the differential weight of male and female pupae. Second, conditions for X‐ray sterilization are systematically tested and an optimal dose (90 kV/40 Gy) is identified that ensures the efficient production of sterile D. suzukii for release. Finally, the inherent thermosensitivity of D. suzukii males is exploited to develop a temperature‐based sterilization technique, offering an alternative or additional SIT method for this pest. These advances will contribute to the development of a comprehensive and effective strategy for the management of D. suzukii populations, reducing their impact on agriculture and helping to safeguard crop yields. The carbon (C) dynamics of boreal coniferous swamps are a largely understudied component of wetland carbon cycling. We investigated the above‐ and below‐ground carbon stocks and growing season carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) fluxes from a representative boreal coniferous swamp in northern Alberta, Canada in 2022. Tree inventories, understory vegetation biomass and peat cores were collected across three sub‐sites within the broader swamp, with gas flux collars placed in the dominant plant communities present. Alongside the C flux measurements, environmental variables such as water table depth, soil temperature and growing season understory green leaf phenology were measured. Our results show that these boreal coniferous swamps store large volumes of organic C in their biomass and soil (134 kg C m−2), comparable with other wetland and forest types, although 95% of the total C stock at our site was within the soil organic carbon. We also found that understory CO2 and CH4 fluxes indicated that the ground layer of the site is a source of greenhouse gases (GHGs) to the atmosphere across the growing season. However, we did not measure litterfall input, tree GHG fluxes or net primary productivity of the overstory, therefore we are not able to say whether the site is an overall source of C to the atmosphere. This study provides a much‐needed insight into the C dynamics of these under‐valued wetland ecosystems, and we highlight the need for a coordinated effort across boreal regions to try to improve inventories of C stocks and fluxes. Plain Language Summary: Compared to other wetland types across Canada, boreal conifer swamps do not receive the same level of scientific attention and therefore our understanding of how much carbon they potentially store and release is limited. To fill this knowledge gap, our study measured how much carbon was stored both in the trees and within the soil itself, alongside measurements of carbon uptake and release within a representative conifer swamp wetland in Western Canada. We found that although these wetlands may function similarly to other wetland types, by ignoring them, we are missing out on large amounts of carbon being stored in these systems. We also found that at the ground layer, these sites are a source of carbon, that is, releasing more carbon than is being taken up by the understory moss and plant layer. However, we cannot say if the site overall is a source of carbon to the atmosphere as we were unable to measure other key components of a wetland carbon cycle including litterfall input and the productivity of the trees themselves. Our findings indicate that by not including these wetlands in modeling of carbon dynamics, we are missing a substantial component of boreal carbon cycling processes. Purpose: Various parameters of regional lung ventilation can be estimated using phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL)‐MRI. The parameter "ventilation correlation coefficient (Vent‐CC)" was shown advantageous because it assesses the dynamics of regional air flow. Calculating Vent‐CC depends on a voxel‐wise comparison to a healthy reference flow curve. This work examines the effect of placing a reference region of interest (ROI) in various lung quadrants or in different coronal slices. Furthermore, algorithms for automated ROI selection are presented and compared in terms of test–retest repeatability. Methods: Twenty‐eight healthy subjects and 32 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients were scanned twice using PREFUL‐MRI. Retrospective analyses examined the homogeneity of air flow curves of various reference ROIs using cross‐correlation. Vent‐CC and ventilation defect percentage (VDP) calculated using various reference ROIs were compared using one‐way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The coefficient of variation was calculated for Vent‐CC and VDP when using different reference selection algorithms. Results: Flow‐volume curves were highly correlated between ROIs placed at various lung quadrants in the same coronal slice (r > 0.97) with no differences in Vent‐CC and VDP (ANOVA: p > 0.5). However, ROIs placed at different coronal slices showed lower correlation coefficients and resulted in significantly different Vent‐CC and VDP values (ANOVA: p < 0.001). Vent‐CC and VDP showed higher repeatability when calculated using the presented new algorithm. Conclusion: In COPD and healthy cohorts, assessing regional ventilation dynamics using PREFUL‐MRI in terms of the Vent‐CC metric showed higher repeatability using a new algorithm for selecting a homogenous reference ROI from the same slice. Sports psychiatry is a young field of medicine and psychiatry that focuses on mental health among athletes, and sports and exercise within psychiatry and mental disorders. However, the development of sports psychiatry and its fields of activity vary from region to region and are not uniform yet. Sports psychiatry and the role of sports psychiatrists have also already been discussed in the field of sports and exercise medicine, and within medical teams in competitive and elite sports. A uniform definition on sports psychiatry, its fields of activity, sports psychiatrist, and the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities (plus attitudes, eKSA+A) of the sports psychiatrist were developed as part of an International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP) Summit, as well as First International Consensus Statement on Sports Psychiatry. Three fields of activity can be distinguished within sports psychiatry: (i) mental health and disorders in competitive and elite sports, (ii) sports and exercise in prevention of and treatment for mental disorders, and (iii) mental health and sport‐specific mental disorders in recreational sports. Each of these fields have its own eKSA+A. The definitions on sports psychiatry and sports psychiatrists, as well as the framework of eKSA+A in the different fields of activity of sports psychiatrists will help to unify and standardize the future development of sports psychiatry, establish a standard of service within sports psychiatry and together with the neighboring disciplines, and should be included into current, and future sports psychiatry education and training. A new 5,6,7,8‐tetrahydroquinazoline (i. e. 1,3‐diazanaphthalene) scaffold with four points of diversification RA−RD was prepared. The sequence started from nitroalkanes RCCH2NO2 (with RC = Me, Bu), ethyl acrylate and amidines RAC(NH)NH2 (with RA = Ph, 4‐pyridyl) which were converted in a conjugate addition, Dieckmann condensation and pyrimidine ring formation. After transformation of the OH group in 4‐position to a chloro leaving group, residues RB were introduced by nucleophilic substitution with alkyl amines RBNH2 (10 examples) or aryl thiols RBSH (two examples). Finally, the nitro group in the 6‐position was reduced and the primary amino function amidated with various carboxylic acids RDCO2H. The design of protein interaction inhibitors is a promising approach to address aberrant protein interactions that cause disease. One strategy in designing inhibitors is to use peptidomimetic scaffolds that mimic the natural interaction interface. A central challenge in using peptidomimetics as protein interaction inhibitors, however, is determining how best the molecular scaffold aligns to the residues of the interface it is attempting to mimic. Here we present the Scaffold Matcher algorithm that aligns a given molecular scaffold onto hotspot residues from a protein interaction interface. To optimize the degrees of freedom of the molecular scaffold we implement the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA‐ES), a state‐of‐the‐art derivative‐free optimization algorithm in Rosetta. To evaluate the performance of the CMA‐ES, we used 26 peptides from the FlexPepDock Benchmark and compared with three other algorithms in Rosetta, specifically, Rosetta's default minimizer, a Monte Carlo protocol of small backbone perturbations, and a Genetic algorithm. We test the algorithms' performance on their ability to align a molecular scaffold to a series of hotspot residues (i.e., constraints) along native peptides. Of the 4 methods, CMA‐ES was able to find the lowest energy conformation for all 26 benchmark peptides. Additionally, as a proof of concept, we apply the Scaffold Match algorithm with CMA‐ES to align a peptidomimetic oligooxopiperazine scaffold to the hotspot residues of the substrate of the main protease of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2). Our implementation of CMA‐ES into Rosetta allows for an alternative optimization method to be used on macromolecular modeling problems with rough energy landscapes. Finally, our Scaffold Matcher algorithm allows for the identification of initial conformations of interaction inhibitors that can be further designed and optimized as high‐affinity reagents. Although it is widely accepted that stocking hatchery‐cultured fish can increase the number of fish, decades of scientific evidence have shown that most often those stocking efforts fail to provide the desired "demographic boost" to a naturally reproducing, self‐sustaining target population. Despite this evidence, fish stocking remains a mainstay of fisheries management programmes, even as the biodiversity of wild fish populations and other aquatic organisms are at serious risk due to habitat loss and/or overexploitation across the globe. In this perspective piece, we summarise the reasons why wild and hatchery‐produced fish are not equivalent and describe the genetic and ecological risks associated with stocking programmes. We then present our perspective on the institutional changes that need to occur to assess these risks and offer ways to transition fisheries management strategies to become more effective in conserving levels of aquatic biodiversity from populations to landscapes. We propose that a critical first step to control ill‐conceived fish stocking programmes is to have each country develop, implement, and enforce a scientifically sound National Fish Stocking Policy. To achieve the long‐term sustainability of native fish populations, it is imperative that ecological and evolutionary principles be better integrated into future conservation strategies and management actions. Background: Phase-resolved functional lung (PREFUL) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) pulmonary pulse wave transit time (pPTT) is a contrast agent free, vascular imaging biomarker, but has not been validated in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Purpose: To validate PREFUL with echocardiographic pPTT as a reference standard and to compare arterial/venous pPTT mapping with spirometry and clinical parameters.Study Type: Prospective.Population: Twenty-one patients (62% female) with COPD and 44 healthy participants (50% female).Field Strength/sequence: 1.5 T; 2D-spoiled gradient-echo sequence.Assessment: Three coronal PREFUL MRI slices, echocardiography, and spirometry including forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1, liter) and predicted defined as FEV1 in% divided by the population average FEV1%, were performed. Pulmonary pulse transit time from the main artery to the microvasculature (PREFUL pPTT), to the right upper lobe vein (PREFUL pPTTav , echo pPTTav ), from microvasculature to right upper lobe vein (PREFULvein ) and the ratio of PREFUL pPTT to PREFUL pPTTvein were calculated. Body mass index (BMI), Global Initiative for COPD (GOLD) stage 1-4, disease duration, and cigarette packs smoked per day multiplied by the smoked years (pack years) were computed.Statistical Tests: Shapiro-Wilk-test, paired-two-sided-t-tests, Bland-Altman-analysis, coefficient of variation, Pearson ρ were applied, pPTT data were compared between 21 subjects from the 44 healthy subjects who were age- and sex-matched to the COPD cohort, P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: PREFUL pPTTav significantly correlated with echo pPTTav (ρ = 0.95) with 1.85 msec bias, 95% limits of agreement: 55.94 msec, -52.23 msec in all participants (P = 0.59). In the healthy participants, PREFUL and echo pPTTav significantly correlated with age (ρ = 0.81, ρ = 0.78), FEV1 (ρ = -0.47, ρ = -0.34) and BMI (ρ = 0.56, ρ = 0.51). Background: Free‐breathing 1H ventilation MRI shows promise but only single‐center validation has yet been performed against methods which directly image lung ventilation in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Purpose: To investigate the relationship between 129Xe and 1H ventilation images using data acquired at two centers. Study type: Sequence comparison. Population: Center 1; 24 patients with CF (12 female) aged 9–47 years. Center 2; 7 patients with CF (6 female) aged 13–18 years, and 6 healthy controls (6 female) aged 21–31 years. Data were acquired in different patients at each center. Field Strength/Sequence: 1.5 T, 3D steady‐state free precession and 2D spoiled gradient echo. Assessment: Subjects were scanned with 129Xe ventilation and 1H free‐breathing MRI and performed pulmonary function tests. Ventilation defect percent (VDP) was calculated using linear binning and images were visually assessed by H.M., L.J.S., and G.J.C. (10, 5, and 8 years' experience). Statistical Tests: Correlations and linear regression analyses were performed between 129Xe VDP, 1H VDP, FEV1, and LCI. Bland–Altman analysis of 129Xe VDP and 1H VDP was carried out. Differences in metrics were assessed using one‐way ANOVA or Kruskal–Wallis tests. Results: 129Xe VDP and 1H VDP correlated strongly with; each other (r = 0.84), FEV1 z‐score (129Xe VDP r = −0.83, 1H VDP r = −0.80), and LCI (129Xe VDP r = 0.91, 1H VDP r = 0.82). Bland–Altman analysis of 129Xe VDP and 1H VDP from both centers had a bias of 0.07% and limits of agreement of −16.1% and 16.2%. Linear regression relationships of VDP with FEV1 were not significantly different between 129Xe and 1H VDP (P = 0.08), while 129Xe VDP had a stronger relationship with LCI than 1H VDP. Introduction: Suicide represents a major mental and public health issue. Elite athletes share certain individual and environmental characteristics that may increase their risk for mental illnesses, ultimately leading to suicide. This notion conflicts with the general perception of athletes, being the healthiest representatives of society. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was carried out through PubMed and Embase databases for relevant publications. Results: Recent calls for investigating suicidality among athletes resulted in a considerable amount of literature providing some evidence regarding lower rates of suicide among professional and high‐performance athletes as well as similar incidence and prevalence of mental conditions, which are known as risk factors for suicide. Nevertheless, special attention is required in this population as predisposing and precipitating factors might differ from classical features of suicidality in the general population. Sports physicians, sports psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals in elite sports should be aware of early signs of affective disorders, risk of recreational drug abuse, misuse of performance‐enhancing medications, sport‐specific environmental stressors, serious physical injuries, and presence of physical or mental illness, all of which may increase suicidality. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is with suicide with higher severity correlated with increased risk. Compared to active athletes, former athletes may have higher rates of suicide due to common life stressors occurring after sports retirement. Conclusions: The findings suggest a multidisciplinary approach to suicidality in elite athletes, the main goal of which should be the reduction of suicide‐related morbidity and mortality. Further research is required to clarify the existing gaps in the current knowledge of the issue. While having lower rates of suicide, athletes share some similar (affective disorders, drug abuse, mental and physical illness) and unique factors (misuse of performance‐enhancing substances, sports‐related stressors, sports injuries, TBI) putting them at risk of suicide during active career and retirement. Background: 19F MRI of inhaled gas tracers has developed into a promising tool for pulmonary diagnostics. Prior to clinical use, the intersession repeatability of acquired ventilation parameters must be quantified and maximized. Purpose: To evaluate repeatability of static and dynamic 19F ventilation parameters and correlation with predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1%pred) with and without inspiratory volume control. Study Type: Prospective. Population: A total of 30 healthy subjects and 26 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Field Strength/Sequence: Three‐dimensional (3D) gradient echo pulse sequence with golden‐angle stack‐of‐stars k‐space encoding at 1.5 T. Assessment: All study participants underwent 19F ventilation MRI over eight breaths with inspiratory volume control (w VC) and without inspiratory volume control (w/o VC), which was repeated within 1 week. Ventilated volume percentage (VVP), fractional ventilation (FV), and wash‐in time (WI) were computed. Lung function testing was conducted on the first visit. Statistical Tests: Correlation between imaging and FEV1%pred was measured using Pearson correlation coefficient (r). Differences in imaging parameters between first and second visit were analyzed using paired t‐test. Repeatability was quantified using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and coefficient of variation (CoV). Minimum detectable effect size (MDES) was calculated with a power analysis for study size n = 30 and a power of 0.8. All hypotheses were tested with a significance level of 5% two sided. Results: Strong and moderate linear correlations with FEV1%pred for COPD patients were found in almost all imaging parameters. The ICC w VC exceeds the ICC w/o VC for all imaging parameters. CoV was significantly lower w VC for initial VVP in COPD patients, FV, CoV FV, WI and standard deviation (SD) of WI. MDES of all imaging parameters were smaller w VC. Data Conclusion: 19F gas wash‐in MRI with inspiratory volume control increases the correlation and repeatability of imaging parameters with lung function testing. Summary: Background and objectives: Cutaneous reactions following COVID‐19 vaccination have been frequently described, whereas larger case series by dermatologists are lacking. This study assesses SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccination‐associated skin reactions, severity, treatment, course, eliciting vaccines, allergy test results and tolerance to revaccination. Patients and methods: Single‐institutional, non‐interventional study of dermatologists assessing cutaneous manifestations in 83 patients in Germany. Results: 93 reactions were presented. Manifestations clustered into immediate (n = 51, 54.8%) and delayed hypersensitivity reactions (n = 10, 10.8%), chronic inflammatory skin diseases (n = 13, 14.0%), reactivation of latent herpes virus infection (pityriasis rosea/herpes zoster; n = 9; 9.7%) and others (n = 10, 10.8%). Vaccination was associated with new (76.3%) – mostly hypersensitivity reactions – or exacerbation of known skin diseases (23.7%), in this case predominantly chronic inflammatory skin diseases. Reactions occurred primarily within the first week (72.8%) and after first vaccination (62.0%). Treatment was required in 83.9% and hospitalization in 19.4%. In 48.8% revaccination led to recurrence of the same reactions. Disease was ongoing at last consultation in 22.6%, primarily in chronic inflammatory skin diseases. Allergy tests were performed in 15 patients (18.1%) and resulted negative. Conclusions: It can be assumed that vaccination may trigger immune activation‐related reactions especially in those patients predisposed to develop respective skin diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the current study was to assess the influence of the registration algorithms on the repeatability of three‐dimensional (3D) phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) ventilation magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Twenty‐three healthy volunteers and 10 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) underwent 3D PREFUL MRI during tidal breathing. The registration of dynamically acquired data to a fixed image was executed using single‐step, stepwise, and group‐oriented registration (GOREG) approaches. Advanced Normalization Tools (ANTs) and the Forsberg image‐registration package were used for the registration. Image registration algorithms were tested for differences and evaluated by the repeatability analysis of ventilation parameters using coefficient of variation (CoV), intraclass‐correlation coefficient, Bland–Altman plots, and correlation to spirometry. Also, the registration time and image quality were computed for all registration approaches. Very strong to strong correlations (r range: 0.917–0.999) were observed between ventilation parameters derived using various registration approaches. Median CoV values of the cross‐correlation (CC) parameter were significantly lower (all p ≤ 0.0054) for ANTs GOREG compared with single‐step and stepwise ANTs registration. The majority of comparisons between COPD patients and age‐matched healthy volunteers showed agreement among the registration approaches. The repeatability of regional ventilation (RVent)‐based ventilation defect percentage (VDPRVent) and VDPCC was significantly higher (both p ≤ 0.0054) for Forsberg GOREG compared with ANTs GOREG. All 3D PREFUL‐derived ventilation parameters correlated with forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and the FEV1/ forced vital capacity (FVC) ratio (all |r| > 0.40, all p < 0.03). The image sharpness of RVent maps was statistically elevated (all p < 0.001) using GOREG compared with single‐step and stepwise registration approaches using ANTs. The best computational performance was achieved with Forsberg GOREG. The GOREG scheme improves the repeatability and image quality of dynamic 3D PREFUL ventilation parameters. Registration time can be ~10‐fold reduced to 9 min using the Forsberg method with equal or even improved repeatability and comparable PREFUL ventilation results compared with the ANTs method. The binding of interferon (IFN) to its receptors leads to formation of IFN‐stimulated gene factor 3 (ISGF3) complex that activates the transcription of cellular IFN‐regulated genes. IFN regulatory factor 9 (IRF9, also called ISGF3γ or p48) is a key component of ISGF3. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the molecular evolution of IRF9 among vertebrates. In this study, we have identified the existence of the IRF9 gene in cartilaginous fish (sharks). Among primates, several isoforms unique to old world moneys and great apes are identified. These IRF9 isoforms are named as primate‐specific IRF9 (PS‐IRF9) to distinguish from canonical IRF9. PS‐IRF9 originates from a unique exon usage and differential splicing in the IRF9 gene. Although the N‐terminus are identical for all IRF9s, the C‐terminal regions of the PS‐IRF9 are completely different from canonical IRF9. In humans, two PS‐IRF9s are identified and their RNA transcripts were detected in human primary peripheral blood mononuclear cells. In addition, human PS‐IRF9 proteins were detected in human cell lines. Sharing the N‐terminal exons with the canonical IRF9 proteins, PS‐IRF9 is predicted to bind to the same DNA sequences as the canonical IRF9 proteins. As the C‐terminal regions of IRFs are the determinants of IRF functions, PS‐IRF9 may offer unique biological functions and represent a novel signaling molecule involved in the regulation of the IFN pathway in a primate‐specific manner. Background: There is a clinical need for imaging-derived biomarkers for the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Observed pulmonary T1 (T1 (TE)) depends on the echo-time (TE) and reflects regional pulmonary function.Purpose: To investigate the potential diagnostic value of T1 (TE) for the assessment of lung disease in COPD patients by determining correlations with clinical parameters and quantitative CT.Study Type: Prospective non-randomized diagnostic study.Population: Thirty COPD patients (67.7 ± 6.6 years). Data from a previous study (15 healthy volunteers [26.2 ± 3.9 years) were used as reference.Field Strength/sequence: Study participants were examined at 1.5 T using dynamic contrast-enhanced three-dimensional gradient echo keyhole perfusion sequence and a multi-echo inversion recovery two-dimensional UTE (ultra-short TE) sequence for T1 (TE) mapping at TE1-5  = 70 μsec, 500 μsec, 1200 μsec, 1650 μsec, and 2300 μsec.Assessment: Perfusion images were scored by three radiologists. T1 (TE) was automatically quantified. Computed tomography (CT) images were quantified in software (qCT). Clinical parameters including pulmonary function testing were also acquired.Statistical Tests: Spearman rank correlation coefficients (ρ) were calculated between T1 (TE) and perfusion scores, clinical parameters and qCT. A P-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: Median values were T1 (TE1-5 ) = 644 ± 78 msec, 835 ± 92 msec, 835 ± 87 msec, 831 ± 131 msec, 893 ± 220 msec, all significantly shorter than previously reported in healthy subjects. A significant increase of T1 was observed from TE1 to TE2 , with no changes from TE2 to TE3 (P = 0.48), TE3 to TE4 (P = 0.94) or TE4 to TE5 (P = 0.02) which demonstrates an increase at shorter TEs than in healthy subjects. Moderate to strong Spearman's correlations between T1 and parameters including the predicted diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO, ρ < 0.70), mean lung density (MLD, ρ < 0.72) and the perfusion score (ρ > -0.69) were found. Overall, correlations were strongest at TE2 , weaker at TE1 and rarely significant at TE4 -TE5 .Data Conclusion: In COPD patients, the increase of T1 (TE) with TE occurred at shorter TEs than previously found in healthy subjects. Together with the lack of correlation between T1 and clinical parameters of disease at longer TEs, this suggests that T1 (TE) quantification in COPD patients requires shorter TEs. Tier 1 school mental health programs for middle school youth often focus on healthy relationships promotion. However, the vast majority of these programs take a gender‐ and race‐neutral approach (i.e., content that does not focus on the way that gender, race, and ethnicity intersect to shape relationships and mental health). Embedding these intersections into Tier 1 programs is critical to equitably advancing mental health for middle school youth. This article specifically explores associations between participation in a Tier 1 gender‐transformative healthy relationships program and friendship quality for Ethnocultural boys. Data were drawn from 278 White and Ethnocultural boys who participated in the program in 2016–2017 or 2017–2018 in a Western Canadian province. Data were analyzed using three‐level multilevel models. In these data, we found that Ethnocultural boys who participated in WiseGuyz reported improved friendship quality with their closest same‐sex friend following the end of the program. We also found that Ethnocultural boys who reported a positive change in male role norms related to emotional restriction reported significant improvements to friendship quality from pre‐ to post‐test. Findings suggest the importance of embedding equity into Tier 1 school mental health programming through a specific focus on intersections between gender, race, and ethnicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pulmonary proton MRI techniques offer the unique possibility of assessing lung function and structure without the requirement for hyperpolarization or dedicated hardware, which is mandatory for multinuclear acquisition. Five popular approaches are presented and discussed in this review: 1) oxygen enhanced (OE)-MRI; 2) arterial spin labeling (ASL); 3) Fourier decomposition (FD) MRI and other related methods including self-gated noncontrast-enhanced functional lung (SENCEFUL) MR and phase-resolved functional lung (PREFUL) imaging; 4) dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI; and 5) ultrashort TE (UTE) MRI. While DCE MRI is the most established and well-studied perfusion measurement, FD MRI offers a free-breathing test without any contrast agent and is predestined for application in patients with renal failure or with low compliance. Additionally, FD MRI and related methods like PREFUL and SENCEFUL can act as an ionizing radiation-free V/Q scan, since ventilation and perfusion information is acquired simultaneously during one scan. For OE-MRI, different concentrations of oxygen are applied via a facemask to assess the regional change in T1 , which is caused by the paramagnetic property of oxygen. Since this change is governed by a combination of ventilation, diffusion, and perfusion, a compound functional measurement can be achieved with OE-MRI. The known problem of fast T2 * decay of the lung parenchyma leading to a low signal-to-noise ratio is bypassed by the UTE acquisition strategy. Computed tomography (CT)-like images allow the assessment of lung structure with high spatial resolution without ionizing radiation. Despite these different branches of proton MRI, common trends are evident among pulmonary proton MRI: 1) free-breathing acquisition with self-gating; 2) application of UTE to preserve a stronger parenchymal signal; and 3) transition from 2D to 3D acquisition. On that note, there is a visible convergence of the different methods and it is not difficult to imagine that future methods will combine different aspects of the presented methods. Glyphosate is a globally applied herbicide yet it has been relatively undetectable in-field samples outside of gold-standard techniques. Its presumed nontoxicity toward humans has been contested by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, while it has been detected in farmers' urine, surface waters and crop residues. Rapid, on-site detection of glyphosate is hindered by lack of field-deployable and easy-to-use sensors that circumvent sample transportation to limited laboratories that possess the equipment needed for detection. Herein, the flavoenzyme, glycine oxidase, immobilized on platinumdecorated laser-induced graphene (LIG) is used for selective detection of glyphosate as it is a substrate for GlyOx. The LIG platform provides a scaffold for enzyme attachment while maintaining the electronic and surface properties of graphene. The sensor exhibits a linear range of 10-260 μm, detection limit of 3.03 μm, and sensitivity of 0.991 nA μm-1. The sensor shows minimal interference from the commonly used herbicides and insecticides: atrazine, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, dicamba, parathion-methyl, paraoxon-methyl, malathion, chlorpyrifos, thiamethoxam, clothianidin, and imidacloprid. Sensor function is further tested in complex river water and crop residue fluids, which validate this platform as a scalable, direct-write, and selective method of glyphosate detection for herbicide mapping and food analysis. Purpose: To examine the time‐dependent diffusion of fluorinated (19F) gas in human lungs for determination of surface‐to‐volume ratio in comparison to results from hyperpolarized 129Xe and lung function testing in healthy volunteers and patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods: Diffusion of fluorinated gas in the short‐time regime was measured using multiple gradient‐echo sequences with a single pair of trapezoidal gradient pulses. Pulmonary surface‐to‐volume ratio was calculated using a first‐order approximation of the time‐dependent diffusion in a study with 20 healthy volunteers and 22 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The repeatability after 7 days as well as the correlation with hyperpolarized 129Xe diffusion MRI and lung function testing was analyzed. Results: Using 19F diffusion MRI, the median surface‐to‐volume ratio is significantly decreased in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients (S/V = 126 cm−1 [87–144 cm−1]) compared with healthy volunteers (S/V = 164 cm−1 [160–84 cm−1], p < 0.0001). No significant difference was found between measurements within 7 days for healthy (p = 0.88, median coefficient of variation = 4.3%) and diseased subjects (p = 0.58, median coefficient of variation= 6.7%). Linear correlations were found with S/V from 129Xe diffusion MRI (r = 0.85, p = 0.001) and the forced expiratory volume in 1 second (r = 0.68, p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Examination of lung microstructure using time‐dependent diffusion measurement of inhaled 19F is feasible, repeatable, and correlates with established measurements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The translation of phase-resolved functional lung (PREFUL)-MRI to routine practice in monitoring chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) still requires clinical corresponding imaging biomarkers of pulmonary vascular disease.Purpose: To evaluate successful pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) via PREFUL-MRI with pulmonary pulse wave transit time (pPTT).Study Type: Retrospective.Population: Thirty CTEPH patients and 12 healthy controls were included.Field Strength/sequence: For PREFUL-MRI a 2D spoiled gradient echo sequence and for DCE-MRI a 3D time-resolved angiography with stochastic trajectories (TWIST) sequence were performed on 1.5T.Assessment: Eight coronal slices of PREFUL-MRI were obtained on consecutive 13 days before and 14 days after PEA. PREFUL quantitative lung perfusion (PREFULQ ) phases over the whole cardiac cycle were calculated to quantify pPTT, the time the pulmonary pulse wave travels from the central pulmonary arteries to the pulmonary capillaries. Also, perfusion defect percentage based on pPTT (QDPpPTT ), PREFULQ (QDPPREFUL ), and V/Q match were calculated. For DCE-MRI, pulmonary blood flow (PBF) and QDPPBF were computed as reference. For clinical correlation, mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and 6-minute walking distance were evaluated preoperatively and after PEA.Statistical Tests: The Shapiro-Wilk test, paired two-sided Wilcoxon rank sum test, Dice coefficient, and Spearman's correlation coefficient (ρ) were applied.Results: Median pPTT was significantly lower post PEA (139 msec) compared to pre PEA (193 msec), P = 0.0002. Median pPTT correlated significantly with the mPAP post PEA (r = 0.52, P < 0.008). Median pPTT was distributed more homogeneously after PEA: IQR pPTT decreased from 336 to 281 msec (P < 0.004). Median PREFULQ (P < 0.0002), QDPpPTT (P < 0.0478), QDPPREFUL (P < 0.0001) and V/Q match (P < 0.0001) improved significantly after PEA. Percentage change of PREFULQ correlated significantly with percentage change of 6-minute walking distance (ρ = 0.61; P = 0.0031) 5 months post PEA.Data Conclusion: Perioperative perfusion changes in CTEPH can be detected and quantified by PREFUL-MRI. Background: Perfusion-weighted (Qw) noncontrast-enhanced proton lung MRI is a promising technique for assessment of pulmonary perfusion, but still requires validation.Purpose: To improve perfusion-weighted phase-resolved functional lung (PREFUL)-MRI, to validate PREFUL with perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) as a gold standard, and to compare PREFUL with dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI as a reference.Study Type: Retrospective.Population: Twenty patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), 14 patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), and 21 patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) were included.Field Strength/sequence: For PREFUL-MRI, a spoiled gradient echo sequence and for DCE-MRI a 3D time-resolved angiography with stochastic trajectories sequence were used at 1.5T.Assessment: PREFUL-MRI coronal slices were acquired in free-breathing. DCE-MRI was performed in breath-hold with injection of 0.03 mmol/kg bodyweight of gadoteric acid at a rate of 4 cc/s. Perfusion SPECT images were obtained for six CTEPH patients. Images were coregistered. An algorithm to define the appropriate PREFUL perfusion phase was developed using perfusion SPECT data. Perfusion defect percentages (QDP) and Qw-values were calculated for all methods. For PREFUL quantitative perfusion values (PREFULQ ) and for DCE pulmonary blood flow (PBF) was calculated.Statistical Tests: Obtained parameters were assessed using Pearson correlation and Bland-Altman analysis.Results: Qw-SPECT correlated with Qw-DCE (r = 0.50, P < 0.01) and Qw-PREFUL (r = 0.47, P < 0.01). Spatial overlap of QDP maps showed an agreement ≥67.7% comparing SPECT and DCE, ≥64.1% for SPECT and PREFUL, and ≥60.2% comparing DCE and PREFUL. Significant correlations of Qw-PREFUL and Qw-DCE were found (COPD: r = 0.79, P < 0.01; CF: r = 0.77, P < 0.01; CTEPH: r = 0.73, P < 0.01). PREFULQ /PBF correlations were similar/lower (CF, CTEPH: P > 0.12; COPD: P < 0.01) compared to Qw-PREFUL/DCE correlations. Despite the importance of storage root (SR) organs for cassava and the other root crops yield, their developmental origin is poorly understood. Here we use multiple approaches to shed light on the initial stages of root development demonstrating that SR and fibrous roots (FR) follow different rhizogenic processes. Transcriptome analysis carried out on roots collected before, during and after root bulking highlighted early and specific activation of a number of functions essential for root swelling and identified root‐specific genes able to effectively discriminate emerging FR and SR. Starch and sugars start to accumulate at a higher rate in SR before they swell but only after parenchyma tissue has been produced. Finally, using non‐destructive computed tomography measurements, we show that SR (but not FR) contain, since their emergence from the stem, an inner channel structure in continuity with the stem secondary xylem, indicating that SR derive from a distinct rhizogenic process compared with FR. Summary Statement: Cassava storage roots are not developing from fibrous roots but follow a distinct rhizogenic process, undescribed before. Background: Evaluation of structural lung abnormalities with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has previously been shown to be predictive of clinical neonatal outcomes in preterm birth. MRI during free‐breathing with phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) may allow for complimentary functional information without exogenous contrast. Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of structural and functional pulmonary MRI in a cohort of neonates and infants with no cardiorespiratory disease. Macrovascular pulmonary blood flows were also evaluated. Study Type: Prospective. Population: Ten term infants with no clinically defined cardiorespiratory disease were imaged. Infants recruited from the general population and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were studied. Field Strength/Sequence: T1‐weighted VIBE, T2‐weighted BLADE uncorrected for motion. Ultrashort echo time (UTE) and 3D‐flow data were acquired during free‐breathing with self‐navigation and retrospective reconstruction. Single slice 2D‐gradient echo (GRE) images were acquired during free‐breathing for PREFUL analysis. Imaging was performed at 3 T. Assessment: T1, T2, and UTE images were scored according to the modified Ochiai scheme by three pediatric body radiologists. Ventilation/perfusion‐weighted maps were extracted from free‐breathing GRE images using PREFUL analysis. Ventilation and perfusion defect percent (VDP, QDP) were calculated from the segmented ventilation and perfusion‐weighted maps. Time‐averaged cardiac blood velocities from three‐dimensional‐flow were evaluated in major pulmonary arteries and veins. Statistical Test: Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: The ICC of replicate structural scores was 0.81 (95% CI: 0.45–0.95) across three observers. Elevated Ochiai scores, VDP, and QDP were observed in two NICU participants. Excluding these participants, mean ± standard deviation structural scores were 1.2 ± 0.8, while VDP and QDP were 1.0% ± 1.1% and 0.4% ± 0.5%, respectively. Main pulmonary arterial blood flows normalized to body surface area were 3.15 ± 0.78 L/min/m2. Zusammenfassung: Hintergrund: Elektrochemotherapie (ECT) ist eine wirksame lokale Behandlung von Hauttumoren. Ziel dieser Studie war es, die Wirksamkeit der ECT bei ulzerierten gegenüber nichtulzerierten Tumoren zu vergleichen und den Effekt auf tumorassoziierte Symptome zu untersuchen. Methodik: 20 Krebszentren des International Network for Sharing Practices on Electrochemotherapy (InspECT) sammelten prospektiv Daten. Die ECT wurde nach dem ESOPE‐Protokoll durchgeführt. Das Therapieansprechen wurde anhand der Entwicklung der Läsionsgröße bewertet. Zusätzlich wurden Schmerzen, Symptome, Leistungsstatus (ECOG‐Index) und Gesundheitszustand (EQ‐5D‐Fragebogen) untersucht. Ergebnisse: 716 Patienten mit ulzerierten (n = 302) und nichtulzerierten (n = 414) Hauttumoren und Metastasen wurden eingeschlossen (Mindest‐Nachsorge 45 Tage). Nicht‐ulzerierte Läsionen sprachen besser auf die ECT an als ulzerierte Läsionen (vollständiges Ansprechen: 65 % gegenüber 51 %, p = 0,0061). Nur 38 % (115/302) der Patienten mit ulzerierten Läsionen vor der ECT wiesen bei der letzten Nachuntersuchung ulzerierte Läsionen auf. Patienten mit ulzerierten Läsionen berichteten über stärkere Schmerzen und schwerere Symptome im Vergleich zu Patienten mit nichtulzerierten Läsionen, die sich nach der ECT signifikant und kontinuierlich besserten. Bei Patienten mit nichtulzerierten Läsionen hingegen nahmen die Schmerzen während der Behandlung vorübergehend zu. Es wurden keine schwerwiegenden Nebenwirkungen beobachtet. Summary: Background: Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an effective local treatment for cutaneous tumors. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of ECT in ulcerated vs. non‐ulcerated tumors and investigate the effect on tumor‐associated symptoms. Methods: Twenty cancer centers in the International Network for Sharing Practices on Electrochemotherapy (InspECT) prospectively collected data. ECT was performed following ESOPE protocol. Response was evaluated by lesion size development. Pain, symptoms, performance status (ECOG‐Index) and health status (EQ‐5D questionnaire) were evaluated. Results: 716 patients with ulcerated (n = 302) and non‐ulcerated (n = 414) cutaneous tumors and metastases were included (minimum follow‐up of 45 days). Non‐ulcerated lesions responded to ECT better than ulcerated lesions (complete response 65 % vs. 51 %, p = 0.0061). Only 38 % (115/302) with ulcerated lesions before ECT presented with ulcerated lesions at final follow‐up. Patients with ulcerated lesions reported higher pain and more severe symptoms compared to non‐ulcerated lesions, which significantly and continuously improved following ECT. In non‐ulcerated lesions however, pain spiked during the treatment. No serious adverse events were reported. Conclusions: ECT is a safe and effective local treatment for cutaneous tumors. While ECT improves symptoms especially in patients with ulcerated lesions, data suggest the implementation of a perioperative pain management in non‐ulcerated lesions during ECT. For sensitive diagnosis and monitoring of pulmonary disease, ionizing radiationfree imaging methods are of great importance. A noncontrast and free‐breathing proton magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique for assessment of pulmonary perfusion is phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) MRI. Since there is no validation of PREFUL MRI across different centers and scanners, the purpose of this study was to compare perfusion‐weighted PREFUL MRI with the well‐established dynamic contrast‐enhanced (DCE) MRI across two centers on scanners from two different vendors. Sixteen patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) (Center 1: 10 patients; Center 2: 6 patients) underwent PREFUL and DCE MRI at 1.5T in the same imaging session. Normalized perfusion‐weighted values and perfusion defect percentage (QDP) values were calculated for the whole lung and three central slices (dorsal, central, ventral of the carina). Obtained parameters were compared using Pearson correlation, Spearman correlation, Bland–Altman analysis, Wilcoxon signed‐rank test, and Wilcoxon rank‐sum test. Moderate‐tostrong correlations between normalized perfusion‐weighted PREFUL and DCE values were found (posterior slice: r = 0.69, p < 0.01). Spatial overlap of PREFUL and DCE QDP maps showed an agreement of 79.4% for the whole lung. Further, spatial overlap values of Center 1 were not significantly different to those of Center 2 for the three central slices (p > 0.07). Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a heterogeneous condition that can affect the lung parenchyma, pulmonary vasculature, and cardiac chambers. Accurate diagnosis often requires multiple complex assessments of the cardiac and pulmonary systems. MRI is able to comprehensively assess cardiac structure and function, as well as lung parenchymal, pulmonary vascular, and functional lung changes. Therefore, MRI has the potential to provide an integrated functional and structural assessment of the cardiopulmonary system in a single exam. Cardiac MRI is used in the assessment of PH in most large PH centers, whereas lung MRI is an emerging technique in patients with PH. This article reviews the current literature on cardiopulmonary MRI in PH, including cine MRI, black-blood imaging, late gadolinium enhancement, T1 mapping, myocardial strain analysis, contrastenhanced perfusion imaging and contrast-enhanced MR angiography, and hyperpolarized gas functional lung imaging. This article also highlights recent developments in this field and areas of interest for future research including cardiac MRI-based diagnostic models, machine learning in cardiac MRI, oxygen-enhanced 1H imaging, contrast-free 1H perfusion and ventilation imaging, contrast-free angiography and UTE imaging. Bryozoan–stromatolite associations (bryostromatolites) formed conspicuous reef structures throughout the Sheinwoodian (Wenlock) to Ludfordian (Ludlow) stratigraphy on Gotland but have not been described so far. They are mainly composed of encrusting bryozoans forming a complex intergrowth with porostromate and spongiostromate microbes and are different from the abundant stromatoporoid–coral–algal reefs with respect to their composition. In the bryostromatolite different growth stages can be identified. The observed succession can be taken as evidence for cyclic environmental changes during reef formation. Stenohaline reef‐dwelling organisms, such as echinoderms, sponges, corals and trilobites, indicate fully marine salinities. Ten localities exposing bryostromatolites were discovered. Individual bryostromatolites are small with few decimetres up to one metre in size, and occur solely in shallow marine areas. Common features of these reefs on Gotland are cauliflower‐like growth, a high bryozoan diversity, a high abundance of phosphatic fossils and components such as bryozoan pearls and inarticulate phosphatic brachiopods, enhanced bioerosion, Palaeomicrocodium crusts, vadose silt and gypsum pseudomorphs. The high abundance of Palaeomicrocodium, as well as the alternation with other crust‐forming contributors, suggest that it could have been formed directly at the palaeo‐sea surface, probably in times of minor but high‐frequency sea‐level fluctuations. Vadose silt and pseudomorphs after gypsum in reef cavities indicate subaerial exposure shortly after reef growth. The high amount of phosphatic components indicates a high nutrient input, probably by dust. All bryostromatolites were formed in times of strongly elevated δ13C values. The unusual combination of sedimentological and palaeoecological features, as well as their occurrence exclusively during strong positive δ13C excursions, are evidence that the bryostromatolite development responded to climatic/oceanographic changes, which may have played an important role in reef control. Mahseer (Tor spp., Cyprinidae) are iconic, large‐bodied, migratory freshwater fishes of Asian rivers. Long valued as a food source and serving other societal roles, these fishes are severely threatened by a broad range of interacting and escalating human impacts, including dam construction, water pollution, over‐exploitation, and habitat destruction. Mahseer fishes are therefore beneficial to people, both directly and as indicators of ecosystem functionality and the associated ecosystem service benefits provided by the rivers that they inhabit.A literature review demonstrated that wild mahseer populations have a direct role in 11 of the 36 ecosystem services assessed and are indicative of a further 18 ecosystem services provided by the habitats that support them.Recognition of this range of ecosystem service benefits is helpful in describing to non‐specialist public and policy‐making communities the diversity of values provided by mahseer fishes and their supporting habitats, and hence the importance of their conservation.Assessment of the broad range of ecosystem services to which mahseer contribute is an approach that could usefully be applied to promote the benefits of conserving other 'umbrella' taxa and the habitats that support them. Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Identification of imaging biomarkers for phenotyping is necessary for future treatment and therapy monitoring. However, translation of visual analytic pipelines into clinics or their use in large-scale studies is significantly slowed by time-consuming postprocessing steps.Purpose: To implement an automated tool chain for regional quantification of pulmonary microvascular blood flow in order to reduce analysis time and user variability.Study Type: Prospective.Population: In all, 90 MRI scans of 63 patients, of which 31 had a COPD with a mean Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease status of 1.9 ± 0.64 (μ ± σ).Field Strength/sequence: 1.5T dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MRI measurement using 4D dynamic contrast material-enhanced (DCE) time-resolved angiography acquired in a single breath-hold in inspiration. We publish our implementation of a model-free deconvolution filter according to Sourbron et al for 4D DCE MRI scans as open source.Statistical Test: Cross-validation 29/61 (# training / # testing), intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), Spearman ρ, Pearson r, Sørensen-Dice coefficient, and overlap.Results: Segmentations and derived clinical parameters were processed in ~90 seconds per case on a Xeon E5-2637v4 workstation with Tesla P40 GPUs. Background: Chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) is a major cause for the low long-term survival rates after lung transplantation (LTx). Early detection of CLAD may enable providing medical treatment before a nonreversible graft dysfunction has occurred. Background: Perfusion-weighted noncontrast-enhanced proton lung MRI during free breathing is maturing as a novel technique for assessment of regional lung perfusion, but has not yet been validated in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients.Purpose: To compare pulmonary parenchymal perfusion assessed by noncontrast-enhanced perfusion-weighted phase-resolved functional lung (PREFUL)-MRI with lung perfusion determined with dynamic gadolinium-enhanced (DCE)-MRI and with lung function test parameters.Study Type: Prospective.Population: A single-center subset of the COPD cohort "COPD and SYstemic consequenzes-COmorbidities NETwork" (COSYCONET). Slices of PREFUL and DCE-MRI were matched by their ventrodorsal position and corresponding slices were coregistered for evaluation. But after decades of communication to underscore the validity of these changes, and the urgency for action, a large component of the public and many elected officials deny the scientific consensus and reject the need for action. Interest in the connection between masculinities and mental health continues to grow. However, no previous systematic review has explored this association for adolescents. We present the systematic review of 29 articles that explore the connection between adherence to stereotypical male gender role norms (e.g., emotional restriction), attributes (e.g., "ambitious"), and identity (most commonly, gender "typicality") and internalizing behavior problems and social support. A total of 24,795 adolescent boys (6th‐12th grade) were included in the reviewed studies from 1997–2017. In the quantitative articles (n = 20), associations varied by aspect of masculinity assessed. Specifically, we found that greater endorsement of "masculine" traits (e.g., ambitious, assertive) was generally associated with fewer internalizing behavior problems and greater social support. However, lower gender "typicality" and higher adherence to stereotypical gender role norms were generally associated with more internalizing behavior problems and lower social support. In the qualitative articles (n = 9), the most predominant theme was emotional restriction (i.e., a gender role norm) and consequences for mental health. While research in this area is newer for community psychologists, the connection between masculinities and mental health is directly relevant to the field. Given the focus on individual‐level conceptions of masculinity and mental health found in our review, we describe key future directions for masculinities research in community psychology. Purpose: Contrast‐free lung MRI based on Fourier decomposition is an attractive method to monitor various lung diseases. However, the accuracy of the current perfusion quantification is limited. In this study, a new approach for perfusion quantification based on voxel‐wise proton density and median signal decay toward the steady state for Fourier decomposition‐based techniques is proposed called QQuantified (QQuant). Methods: Twenty patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 18 patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension received phase‐resolved functional lung‐MRI (PREFUL) and dynamic contrast‐enhanced (DCE)‐MRI. Nine healthy participants received phase‐resolved functional lung‐MRI only. Median values of QQuant were compared to a Fourier decomposition perfusion quantification presented by Kjørstad et al (QKjørstad) and validated toward pulmonary blood flow derived by DCE‐MRI (PBFDCE). Blood fraction maps determined by the new approach were calculated. Regional and global correlation coefficients were calculated, and Bland‐Altman plots were created. Histogram analyses of all cohorts were created. Results: The introduced parameter QQuant showed only 2 mL/min/100 mL mean deviation to PBFDCE in the patient cohort and showed less bias than QKjørstad. Significant increases of regional correlation with PBFDCE were achieved (r = 0.3 vs. r = 0.2, P <.01*). The trend of global correlation toward PBFDCE is not uniform, showing higher values for QKjørstad in the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease cohort than for QQuant and vice versa in the chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension cohort. In contrast to QKjørstad, QQuant perfusion maps indicate a physiologic dorsoventral gradient in supine position similar to PBFDCE with similar value distribution in the histograms. Conclusion: We proposed a new approach for perfusion quantification of phase‐resolved functional lung measurements. The developed parameter QQuant reveals a higher accuracy compared to QKjørstad. Background: A previous study has demonstrated the feasibility of 3D phase‐resolved functional lung (PREFUL) MRI in healthy volunteers and patients with chronic pulmonary disease. Before clinical use, the repeatability of the ventilation parameters derived from 3D PREFUL MRI must be determined. Purpose: To evaluate repeatability of 3D PREFUL and to compare with pulmonary functional lung testing (PFT). Study Type: Prospective. Population: Fifty‐three healthy subjects and 13 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Field Strength/Sequence: A prototype 3D stack‐of‐stars spoiled‐gradient‐echo sequence at 1.5 T. Assessment: Study participants underwent repeated MRI examination (median time interval between scans COPD/healthy subjects [interquartile range]: 7/0 days [6–8/0–0 days]) and one PFT carried out at the time of the baseline MRI. For 3D PREFUL, regional ventilation (RVent) and flow‐volume loops were computed and rated by cross‐correlation (CC). Also, ventilation time‐to‐peak (VTTP) was computed. Ventilation defect percentage (VDP) maps were obtained for RVent and CC. Statistical Tests: Repeatability of 3D PREFUL parameters was evaluated using Bland–Altman analysis, coefficient of variation (COV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The relation between 3D PREFUL and PFT measures (forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) was assessed using the Pearson correlation coefficient (r). Results: In healthy subjects and COPD patients, no significant bias (all P range: 0.09–0.77) and a moderate to good repeatability of RVent, VTTP, and VDPRVent were found (COV range: 0.1%–18.2%, ICC range: 0.51–0.88). For CC and VDPCC moderate repeatability was found (COV range: 0.6%–43.6%, ICC: 0.38–0.60). CC, VDPRVent, and VDPCC showed a good correlation with FEV1 (all |r| > 0.58, all P < 0.05) and FEV1/FVC ratio (all |r| > 0.62, all P < 0.05). Data Conclusion: 3D PREFUL provided a good repeatability of RVent, VTTP, and VDPRVent and moderate repeatability of CC and VDPCC in healthy volunteers and COPD patients, and correlated well with FEV1 and FEV1/FVC. Selatogrel is a potent and reversible P2Y12 receptor antagonist developed for subcutaneous self‐administration by patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction. After single‐dose emergency treatment with selatogrel, patients are switched to long‐term treatment with oral P2Y12 receptor antagonists. Selatogrel shows rapid onset and offset of inhibition of platelet aggregation (IPA) to overcome the critical initial time after acute myocardial infarction. Long‐term benefit is provided by oral P2Y12 receptor antagonists such as clopidogrel, prasugrel, and ticagrelor. A population pharmacokinetic (PK)/pharmacodynamic (PD) model based on data from 545 subjects in 4 phase I and 2 phase II studies well described the effect of selatogrel on IPA alone and in combination with clopidogrel, prasugrel, and ticagrelor. The PK of selatogrel were described by a three‐compartment model. The PD model included a receptor‐pool compartment to which all drugs can bind concurrently, reversibly or irreversibly, depending on their mode of action. Furthermore, ticagrelor and its active metabolite can bind to the selatogrel‐receptor complex allosterically, releasing selatogrel from the binding site. The model provided a framework for predicting the effect on IPA of selatogrel followed by reversibly and irreversibly binding oral P2Y12 receptor antagonists for sustained effects. Determining the timepoint for switching from emergency to maintenance treatment is critical to achieve sufficient IPA at all times. Simulations based on the interaction model showed that loading doses of clopidogrel and prasugrel administered 15 h and 4.5 h after selatogrel, respectively, provide sustained IPA with clinically negligible drug interaction. Demographics of co‐occurring species can often be diagnosed through population genomic analyses of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). These data can define population structure, gene flow, and candidate regions in the genome that potentially reflect local adaptations. They can also gauge whether populations are demographically "open" or "closed" (i.e., with global or local recruitment). We derived SNPs from double‐digest restriction‐site associated DNA (ddRAD) to test the demographics of commercially important bonefish Albula vulpes (N = 117) and queen conch Lobatus gigas (N = 60) from two northeast Caribbean Basin islands (Grand Bahama to the north and Eleuthera to the south). Specifically, we tested the hypothesis that the strong west‐to‐east current in the Great Bahama Canyon is a vicariant barrier separating the two islands. We conducted Bayesian assignment tests on putatively neutral (A. vulpes = 36,206 SNPs; L. gigas = 64,863) and highly differentiated outlier datasets (A. vulpes = 123 and 79 SNPs; L. gigas = 88 and 51, respectively). For bonefish, results diagnosed asymmetrical gene flow and north‐south differentiation, as potentially driven by adult mobility and easterly currents. However, both analyses indicated genetic structure in conch, substantiating the vicariant hypothesis. These results provide templates for future research endeavors with these impacted species. Outlier loci, for example, can potentially place populations of each within a demographic continuum, rather than within a dichotomous "open/closed" framework, as well as diagnose "source" and "sink" populations, as herein. These methodologies can then be applied to co‐distributed species with similar but less well‐understood ecologies so as to evaluate basin‐wide trends in connectivity and local adaptation.
