Allergic contact sensitivity to tropical corticosteroids has been reported with increasing frequency in recent years. A 26-year-old woman, with dermatitis of the upper limbs, had been affected by crythema, vesicles and scaling. During this time, she had used a large number of topical corticosteroids, which had worsened her dermatitis. Budesonide, a non-halogenated moderately potent steroid, was synthesized in 1979 and has been supplied since 1989 in Italy by IDI Farmaceutici in three preparations: cream, lotion and ointments. Budesonide contained in a nasal spray and in ointments has been responsible for contact allergy.
