Developing social competence for preschoolers is an important area for early intervention, especially for young children with emotional and behavioral issues. This single case meta‐analysis focused on examining the literature base for social skills interventions for preschoolers. A systematic search of the literature yielded 33 single‐case studies on social skills interventions for preschoolers. Results from the aggregated single case studies using a baseline corrected Tau‐U indicated a moderate to large effect (Baseline Corrected Tau = 0.66). Moderator analysis results showed gender and intervention format were statistically significant moderators for the intervention effect. Introduction: Non‐scarring alopecia mainly includes androgenetic alopecia (AGA), female pattern hair loss (FPHL), alopecia areata (AA), telogen effluvium (TE), anagen effluvium (AE) and so on. Many studies had investigated the serum 25‐hydroxyvitamin D level and vitamin D deficiency of patients with these diseases, but opinions varied, and no conclusion was reached. Methods: Relevant articles were retrieved through PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and other databases. Serum 25‐hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH) D] levels and vitamin D deficiency were used as our primary outcome. The odds ratio (OR) and the standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval were both examined for vitamin D deficiency and levels. Results: Our meta‐analysis had included a total of 3374 non‐scarring alopecia patients and 7296 healthy controls from 23 studies through the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. We found non‐scarring alopecia had decreased serum 25(OH)D level (WMD −7.29; 95% CI −9.21, −5.38) and increased vitamin D deficiency incidence (OR 3.11 95% CI 2.29, 4.22), compared with healthy controls. This meta‐analysis chose to conduct random‐effect model and subgroup analysis, because of the high heterogeneity (serum 25(OH)D level: I2 = 95%, vitamin D deficiency: I2 = 0%). Conclusion: Patients with non‐scarring alopecia (including AA, FPHL, AGA and TE) have insufficient serum level of 25(OH)D and increased incidence of vitamin D deficiency. Objective: Osteosarcoma is a primary malignancy originating from mesenchymal tissue characterized by rapid growth, early metastasis and poor prognosis. Ginsenoside Rg5 (G‐Rg5) is a minor ginsenoside extracted from Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer which has been discovered to possess anti‐tumor properties. The objective of current study was to explore the mechanism of G‐Rg5 in the treatment of osteosarcoma by network pharmacology and molecular docking technology. Methods: Pharmmapper, SwissTargetPrediction and similarity ensemble approach databases were used to obtain the pharmacological targets of G‐Rg5. Related genes of osteosarcoma were searched for in the GeneCards, OMIM and DrugBank databases. The targets of G‐Rg5 and the related genes of osteosarcoma were intersected to obtain the potential target genes of G‐Rg5 in the treatment of osteosarccoma. The STRING database and Cytoscape 3.8.2 software were used to construct the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network, and the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) platform was used to perform gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses. AutoDock vina software was used to perform molecular docking between G‐Rg5 and hub targets. The hub genes were imported into the Kaplan–Meier Plotter online database for survival analysis. Results: A total of 61 overlapping targets were obtained. The related signaling pathways mainly included PI3K‐Akt signaling pathway, Proteoglycans in cancer, Lipid and atherosclerosis and Kaposi sarcoma‐associated herpesvirus infection. Six hub targets including PIK3CA, SRC, TP53, MAPK1, EGFR, and VEGFA were obtained through PPI network and targets‐pathways network analyses. The results of molecular docking showed that the binding energies were all less than –7 kcal/mol. And the results of survival analysis showed TP53 and VEGFA affect the prognosis of sarcoma patients. Conclusion: This study explored the possible mechanism of G‐Rg5 in the treatment of osteosarcoma using network pharmacology method, suggesting that G‐Rg5 has the characteristics of multi‐targets and multi‐pathways in the treatment of osteosarcoma, which lays a foundation for the follow‐up experimental and clinical researches on the therapeutic effects of G‐Rg5 on osteosarcoma. Self‐assembly of proteinaceous biomolecules into functional materials with ordered structures that span length scales is common in nature yet remains a challenge with designer peptides under ambient conditions. This report demonstrates how charged side‐chain chemistry affects the hierarchical co‐assembly of a family of charge‐complementary β‐sheet‐forming peptide pairs known as CATCH(X+/Y−) at physiologic pH and ionic strength in water. In a concentration‐dependent manner, the CATCH(6K+) (Ac‐KQKFKFKFKQK‐Am) and CATCH(6D−) (Ac‐DQDFDFDFDQD‐Am) pair formed either β‐sheet‐rich microspheres or β‐sheet‐rich gels with a micron‐scale plate‐like morphology, which were not observed with other CATCH(X+/Y−) pairs. This hierarchical order was disrupted by replacing D with E, which increased fibril twisting. Replacing K with R, or mutating the N‐ and C‐terminal amino acids in CATCH(6K+) and CATCH(6D−) to Qs, increased observed co‐assembly kinetics, which also disrupted hierarchical order. Due to the ambient assembly conditions, active CATCH(6K+)‐green fluorescent protein fusions could be incorporated into the β‐sheet plates and microspheres formed by the CATCH(6K+/6D−) pair, demonstrating the potential to endow functionality. Introduction: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) can manifest before the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of lung‐onset pSS using chest high‐resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) and pulmonary function tests (PFTs). Methods: The data of 102 patients with pSS‐ILD were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups: lung‐onset group and the nonlung‐onset group. The chest HRCT, PFTs, and clinical and laboratory data were evaluated and compared. Results: Among the 102 patients with pSS‐ILD, 59 (57.8%) were lung‐onset and 43 (42.2%) were nonlung‐onset. Chest HRCT in the lung‐onset group showed higher percentage of usual interstitial pneumonia and nonspecific interstitial pneumonia, the difference did not reach statistical significance. The total HRCT score was higher in the lung‐onset group, compared with the nonlung‐onset group (2 [2, 3], vs. 2 [1, 2], p =.014). Total lung capacity (TLC) (%pred) [(75.4 ± 16.2) versus (82.8 ± 19.4), p =.049] and forced vital capacity (FVC) (%pred) [(82.2 ± 19.9) versus (91.6 ± 28.3), p =.050] were significantly lower in the lung‐onset group, compared with the nonlung‐onset group. Residual volume (RV)/TLC (%) significantly increased more than 40% in the lung‐onset group (p =.015). Restricted ventilation disorder, small airway obstruction and reduced diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide/alveolar volume (%Pred) were more common in the lung‐onset group (p =.038, p =.050, and p =.050, respectively). Correlation analysis showed that HRCT score was positively correlated with the interval between the onset of pulmonary symptoms and the diagnosis of ILD, serum CA125, and serum CEA. TCL (%pred), VC (%pred), FVC (%pred) were negatively correlated with serum CA125. Conclusion: Lung‐onset is common in pSS patients with more severe lung function impairments. Research suggests that 10%–20% of preschoolers have emotional and behavioral problems that would place them at‐risk for development of emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). Preschool children who exhibit early onset of antisocial and externalizing problem behaviors require early social‐behavioral interventions focused on social skills. A scoping review was conducted that identified 33 single‐case research design studies on social skills interventions for preschoolers. Quality indicatiors were used to examine the design quality of the studies included. A total of 19 studies met quality standards with reservation or met standards without reservations. 43 participants in 11 studies conducted by 10 research teams showed evidence to support social skills interventions as effective interventions. The majority of the evaluated studies (97%) reported IOA. These findings contribute to the growing literature base underscoring social skills interventions in early childhood settings. Practitioner Points: Social skills interventions were effective for preschoolers at risk for emotional behavioral disorders in 11 included single case research studies.A total of 19 single case research studies had robust research designs according to What Works Clearinghouse standards.Teachers were effective implementers in 12 included single case research studies. Comprehensive Summary: Film plays a key role in the sustainable development of our society. Freestanding thin films of two‐dimensional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been produced by interface, spin coating, microwave‐assisted synthesis, and screen printing methods and are applied in nanofiltration, molecular separation, photochemical sensing, anion transport, heat conduction, and proton conduction. On the other hand, the synthesis of their three‐dimensional (3D) analogues and subsequent integration in devices remains challenging. Herein, self‐supporting thin films of a three‐dimensional COF with tunable thickness was created by a stearic acid mediated synthesis methodology on water surface at room temperature in air. The film could be transferred onto arbitrary substrate, and when supported on indium tin oxide glass, it exhibited irreversible electrochromism. The optical feature made it act as a one‐time anti‐counterfeiting label in an electrochemical device. Novel molybdenum(VI/V) POM‐based self‐constructed frameworks [MoVI12O24(μ2‐O)12(trz)6(H2O)6] ⋅ 6Hma ⋅ 18H2O (1, Htrz=1H‐1,2,3‐triazole, ma=methylamine), [MoVI7O14(μ2‐O)8(trz)5(H2O)] ⋅ 7Hma ⋅ 5H2O (2), Na3[MoV6O6(μ2‐O)9(Htrz)3(trz)3] ⋅ 7.5H2O (3) and [MoV8O8(μ2‐O)12(Htrz)8] ⋅ 30H2O (4) have been covalently decorated with tri‐coordinated deprotonated/protonated 1,2,3‐triazoles. Channels with an inner diameter of 7.5 Å were found in 1, whereas a tunnel composed of stacking molecules with an inner diameter of 4.1 Å along the b‐axis exists in 2; it is occupied by free disordered methylamines, showing selective adsorption of O2 and CO2 at 25 °C. Obvious downfield shifts were observed by 13C NMR spectroscopies for methylamines inside the confined channels in 1 and 2. There are diversified pores in 3 and 4, which are formed by the molecules themselves and intermolecular accumulations. Adsorption tests indicate that 3 and 4 are fine adsorption materials for CH4 and CO2 under low pressure that rely on the environments built by the POMs. Correspondingly, 1 and 2 display reversible photoresponsive thermochromism that is subtlety influenced by the channels. The polyoxometalate organic frameworks (POMOFs) with multiple functional adsorptions are easy to assemble. Citrus plants are valuable medicinal plants with abundant flavonoids content in the parts of fruits and peels, which exhibit potential hypouricemic effect. In the present study, a ligand fishing assay was performed based on bio‐affinity ultrafiltration for rapidly screening and identifying xanthine oxidase inhibitors from citrus plants. Under the optimal experimental conditions, five potential ligands were fished out when xanthine oxidase acted as the targeted protein. Subsequently, the chemical structures of all five compounds were identified by quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. Among them, hesperidin and naringin were confirmed as high‐efficiency xanthine oxidase inhibitors. The half maximal inhibitory concentration values of hesperidin and naringin were 0.15 and 1.82 μM, respectively. Compared with the clinical antigout drug, allopurinol (half maximal inhibitory concentration = 8.03 μM), lower half maximal inhibitory concentration values indicated higher enzyme inhibitory activity. The Lineweaver–Burk plots indicated that the two compounds inhibited xanthine oxidase in a noncompetitive manner. A spectroelectrochemical (SEC) assay for uric acid in human urine has been developed that is essentially reagent‐free and involves relatively short analysis times of ∼12 min per specimen using a single‐point standard addition approach. The SEC method was demonstrated to be selective for uric acid in human urine, avoiding interference through both the usual control parameters (electrolysis potential and measurement wavelength) and the relatively slow kinetics of a post‐electrolysis reaction involving the oxidation product. Results from the SEC analysis of a split set of human urine specimens were well correlated to those obtained using a standard high‐performance liquid chromatography method, suggesting the feasibility of clinical applications. The structure of the turbulent vortex in a two‐layer impinging stream reactor was studied by large eddy simulation. The distributions of vortex intensity, turbulent kinetic energy, and shear stress at different Reynolds numbers Re, nozzle spacings L, and nozzle layer spacings are discussed. The relationship between vortex structure and mixing effect in the flow field is revealed. The effects of longitudinal swirls and shear flow characteristics are analyzed. Finally, the field synergy theory is used for evaluation. With increasing Re, the vortex intensity and average shear stress increase. The nozzle spacing and layer spacing affect the mixing effect in the reactor by controlling the change of vortex structure in the flow field. When L/D = 3, where D is the nozzle diameter, the energy loss is the smallest and the mixing effect is the best. Tabson‐2 decoction is the traditional Mongolian formula for anti‐osteoporosis, and the ambiguous of active ingredient is an important factor in restricting its modernization and globalization. Although pharmacokinetic profiles research is a viable approach to find the components being responsible for formula efficacy, the pharmacokinetics study of Tabson‐2 decoction has not been elucidated yet. Owing to the existence of isomers, low bioavailability of some small molecule and interference of endogenous, the pharmacokinetics study of Tabson‐2 decoction are more difficult than that of chemical drugs. In our experiment, a specific and sensitive liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for simultaneous determination of 16 active ingredients in Tabson‐2 decoction, which could fulfill the requirements of multi‐compounds pharmacokinetic study of Tabson‐2 decoction. Additionally, the ingredients with significant distributions in rats were gentianic acid, chlorogenic acid, and aucubin, which could be the main potential active components in Tabson‐2 decoction. The components with a significant bioavailability difference between normal and d‐galactose induced osteoporosis rats were achieved as well. These data offer useful information for screening the active ingredients in Tabson‐2 decoction, and assessing the bioavailability of these active ingredients in different physiological status, which might provide a possible mechanism of anti‐osteoporosis efficacy of Tabson‐2 decoction. The quantification of three alkaloids is important because quantitative study is a means of assessing the reliability of the experimental method, and three alkaloids of peimine, peiminine, and peimisine are main active ingredients in Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2015. An effective method based on the matrix solid‐phase dispersion microextraction was developed for the extraction of alkaloid compounds in Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus. Target analytes were analyzed by capillary electrophoresis coupled with quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The optimized experimental condition was that 50 mg Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus was blended homogeneously with 10 mg citric acid for 5 min. Two hundred microliters of water acidized by 1 mol/L hydrochloric acid (pH = 4.5) was selected to elute tested alkaloids. The results demonstrated that the investigated method had low limits of detection (1.32–1.59 ng/mL), good recoveries (86.63–98.12%), and reproducibility (relative standard deviations of peak areas < 0.87%). The proposed matrix solid‐phase dispersion microextraction coupled with capillary electrophoresis combined with quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry was successfully applied for the extraction of alkaloids in plants. "Dogel ebs" was known as Sophora flavescens Ait., a classical traditional Chinese Mongolian herbal medicine, which had the effects on damp‐heat dysentery, scrofula, and syndrome of accumulated dampness toxicity. Although the chemical constituents have been clarified by our previous studies, the metabolic transformation of "Dogel ebs" in vivo was still unclear. To explore the mechanism of "Dogel ebs," the metabolites in plasma, bile, and urine samples were investigated. A fast positive and negative ion switching technology was used for the simultaneous determination of flavonoids and alkaloids in "Dogel ebs" in a single run. And a target‐group‐change coupled with mass defect filtering strategy was utilized to analyze the collected data. 89 parent compounds and 82 metabolites were characterized by high‐performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Both phase I and phase II metabolites were observed and the metabolic pathways involved in oxidation, demethylation, acetylation, and glucuronidation. 69 metabolites of "Dogel ebs," including three hydroxyls bonding xanthohumol, formononetin‐7‐O‐glucuronide, 2′‐hydroxyl‐isoxanthohumol decarboxylation metabolite, oxysophocarpine dehydrogen, 9α‐hydroxysophoramine‐O‐glucuronide, etc. were reported for the first time. Isolated peanut protein (PPI) dispersions were pretreated by high pressure at 100, 300, and 500 MPa prior to enzymatic hydrolysis with alkaline protease (Alcalase). The degree of hydrolysis (DH) was determined by the pH‐stat method, the hydrolysates profiles were analyzed by high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the molecular weight distribution (MWD) was analyzed by gel filtration chromatogram (GFC), and content of SH/S‐S and antioxidant activity of hydrolysates were evaluated. Results showed that HP pretreatment improved effectively the enzymatic hydrolysis of PPI, with an effective sequence of 300 > 100 > 500 MPa. However, no significant differences were observed in the peak pattern of HPLC profiles, but the peak times were earlier in HPLC profiles of the HP‐treated protein. GFC analysis showed that more peptide fractions with low molecular weight appeared in the hydrolysates of the HP‐treated PPI with increasing pressure. Moreover, the level of free SH of hydrolysates of the HP‐treated PPI was relatively higher than non‐HP‐treated PPI. The hydrolysates of the HP‐treated PPI exerted higher antioxidant activity (reducing power and DPPH radical scavenging) than the hydrolysates of non‐HP‐treated PPI. The results indicated that high pressure treatment affected the enzymatic hydrolysis of peanut protein and some protein structure properties and improved antioxidant activity of PPI hydrolysates. Abstract: Aims/Introduction: Cell death‐inducing DFF45‐like effector C (CIDEC) was proven to be closely associated with the development of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. We aimed to investigate whether CIDEC gene silencing could alleviate pulmonary vascular remodeling in a type 2 diabetes rat model. Materials and Methods: We built a type 2 diabetes rat model. An adenovirus harboring CIDEC small interfering ribonucleic acid was then injected into the jugular vein to silence the CIDEC gene. After hematoxylin–eosin and Sirius red staining, we detected indexes of the pulmonary arterioles remodeling. Immunohistochemical staining of proliferating cell nuclear antigen was used to evaluate the pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell proliferation. Apoptosis was evaluated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling reaction and western blotting. The levels of signaling pathway proteins expression were measured by western blotting analyses. Results: Histological analysis of the pulmonary artery showed that the thickness of the adventitia and medial layer increased notably in type 2 diabetes rats. Immunohistochemistry showed that more proliferating cell nuclear antigen‐positive pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells could be seen in type 2 diabetes rats; and after CIDEC gene silencing, proliferating cell nuclear antigen positive cells decreased accordingly. Cleaved caspase‐3 and cleaved poly (adenosine diphosphate‐ribose) polymerase measured by western blotting showed increased apoptosis with overexpressed CIDEC in diabetes. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling reaction showed that the apoptosis mainly occurred in endothelial cells. Western blotting analysis showed CIDEC overexpression in rats with diabetes, and phosphorylated adenosine 5′ monophosphate‐activated protein kinase‐α expression was significantly decreased. After CIDEC gene silencing, the expression of phosphorylated adenosine 5′ monophosphate‐activated protein kinase‐α was upregulated. Conclusions: The CIDEC/5′ monophosphate‐activated protein kinase signaling pathway could be a potential therapeutic candidate against pulmonary vascular diseases in type 2 diabetes patients. Summary: The signals by which eukaryotic cells communicate with the environment are usually mediated by vesicle trafficking to be attenuated or terminated. However, vesicle trafficking‐mediated signal transmission during interactions between pathogens and host plants is poorly understood. Here, we identified and characterized the vacuole sorting protein FgVps41, which is the yeast HOPS tethering complex subunit Vps41 homolog in Fusarium graminearum. Targeted gene deletion demonstrated that FgVps41 is important for vegetative growth, asexual/sexual development, conidial morphology, plant infection and deoxynivalenol production. Cellular localization and cytological examinations revealed that FgVps41 localizes to early/late endosomes and vacuole membrane, and is recruited to prevacuolar compartments and vacuole membrane by interacting with FgRab7 in F. graminearum. Furthermore, we found FgVps41 mediates vacuole membrane fusion and sorting of FgApeI, a cargo protein involving in the cytosol‐to‐vacuole targeting pathway. In addition, we found that FgVps41 interacts with FgYck3, a vacuolar type I casein kinase, which regulates vesicle fusion in the AP‐3 pathway. Deletion of FgYck3 showed similar phenotypes to the ΔFgvps41 mutant, and both FgRab7 and FgYck3 regulate the normal localization of FgVps41. Collectively, our results demonstrate that FgVps41 acts as a HOPS tethering complex subunit and is important for the development of infection‐related morphogenesis in F. graminearum. Introduction Cognitive deficits associated with traumatic brain injury ( TBI) reduce patient quality of life. However, to date, there have been no effective treatments for TBI-associated cognitive deficits. In this study, we aimed to determine whether electrical stimulation (ES) improves cognitive deficits in TBI rats. Methods Rats were randomly divided into three groups: the Sham control group, electrical stimulation group ( ES group), and No electrical stimulation control group (N- ES group). Following fluid percussion injury, the rats in the ES group received ES treatment for 3 weeks. Potent cognitive function-relevant factors, including the escape latency, time percentage in the goal quadrant, and numbers of CD34+ cells, von Willebrand Factor+ ( vWF+) vessels, and circulating endothelial progenitor cells ( EPCs), were subsequently assessed using the Morris water maze ( MWM) test, immunohistochemical staining, and flow cytometry. Results Compared with the rats in the N- ES group, the rats in the ES group exhibited a shorter escape latency on day 3 ( p = .025), day 4 ( p = .011), and day 5 ( p = .003), as well as a higher time percentage in the goal quadrant ( p = .025) in the MWM test. After 3 weeks of ES, there were increased numbers of CD34+ cells ( p = .008) and vWF+ vessels ( p = .000) in the hippocampus of injured brain tissue in the ES group compared with those in the N- ES group. Moreover, ES also significantly increased the number of EPCs in the peripheral blood from days 3 to 21 after TBI in the ES group ( p < .05). Conclusions Taken together, these findings suggest that ES may improve cognitive deficits induced by TBI, and this protective effect may be a result, in part, of enhanced angiogenesis, which may be attributed to the increased mobilization of EPCs in peripheral blood. This study develops and tests a model of Chinese residents' evaluation of government developmental activities based on identity theory and social exchange theory. The study proposes hypotheses regarding the influences of perceived benefits and environmental identity on residents' satisfaction with the government, the moderating role of environmental identity in the relationship between perceived benefits and satisfaction, and the effect of satisfaction on residents' support intentions. The model is tested with data collected from 474 residents of four cities in China. Results show environmental identity, along with perceived economic and environmental benefits, plays a very important role in residents' satisfaction with the government. The significant moderating role of environmental identity suggests differential effects of perceived benefits on satisfaction are observed based on the level of environmental identity. The concentration field was measured with various nozzle diameters, nozzle distances, and inlet flow rates in a submerged impinging stream mixer (SISM) using planar laser-induced fluorescence to obtain characteristic parameters such as correlation dimension, Kolmogorov entropy, and Lyapunov exponents that describe the chaos phenomenon and reflect the microcosmic mixture effect of a SISM by mean of the chaos theory. The chaotic characteristic parameters were influenced significantly by different nozzles distances, nozzle diameters, and inlet flow rates and their distributions followed a similar changing regularity by which all parameters decreased with larger nozzle diameter and increased with higher inlet flow rate. With the development of mobile networks and the rapid prevalence of location‐based social networks (LBSN), a massive volume of spatiotemporal data has been generated, which is valuable for points of interest (POI) recommendation. However, current studies have not unleashed the full power of such spatiotemporal data, which either explore only a single dimension of the data or consider multiple factors in an asynchronous fashion. In this article, we propose a novel spatiotemporal network‐based recommender framework (STNBR) to effectively recommend POIs for users. Specifically, we first establish a comprehensive conceptual model of spatiotemporal data, involving various essential factors for POIs recommendation. On top of the conceptual model, we design a series of meaningful meta‐paths that simultaneously consider the time and location factors to precisely capture the semantics of user behaviours. By profiling users based on their embedded meta‐paths, our approach can yield meaningful POIs recommendations. We have evaluated our proposal using a realistic dataset obtained from Foursquare and Gowalla, the results of which show that our STNBR model outperforms existing approaches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is based on the lecture for the 2014 American Geriatrics Society Outstanding Scientific Achievement for Clinical Investigation Award. Elder abuse is a global public health and human rights problem. Evidence suggests that elder abuse is prevalent, predictable, costly, and sometimes fatal. This review will highlight the global epidemiology of elder abuse in terms of its prevalence, risk factors, and consequences in community populations. The global literature in PubMed, MEDLINE, Psyc INFO, BIOSIS, Science Direct, and Cochrane Central was searched. Search terms included elder abuse, elder mistreatment, elder maltreatment, prevalence, incidence, risk factors, protective factors, outcomes, and consequences. Studies that existed only as abstracts, case series, or case reports or recruited individuals younger than 60; qualitative studies; and non-English publications were excluded. Tables and figures were created to highlight the findings: the most-detailed analyses to date of the prevalence of elder abuse according to continent, risk and protective factors, graphic presentation of odds ratios and confidence intervals for major risk factors, consequences, and practical suggestions for health professionals in addressing elder abuse. Elder abuse is common in community-dwelling older adults, especially minority older adults. This review identifies important knowledge gaps, such as a lack of consistency in definitions of elder abuse; insufficient research with regard to screening; and etiological, intervention, and prevention research. Concerted efforts from researchers, community organizations, healthcare and legal professionals, social service providers, and policy-makers should be promoted to address the global problem of elder abuse. This study investigates the problem of state feedback H∞ control for linear singular discrete systems. First, a novel admissibility condition and then a new bounded real lemma are proposed for linear singular discrete systems. Then, the existence condition and explicit expression of a desirable state feedback H∞ controller are obtained based on the above results. It should be pointed out that all the conditions in this study are necessary and sufficient and in the form of strict linear matrix inequalities that can be solved easily. The electronic and magnetic properties of BiCo0.875Ni0.125O3 were systematically investigated within the framework of density functional theory. Calculations show that C-type antiferromagnetic structure is the ground state in Ni-doped BiCoO3. The hybridization between Bi-O, Co-O, and Ni-O plays an essential role in the C-AFM behavior. The macroscopic magnetization caused by the short-range antiferromagnetic coupling can be greatly increased by Ni doping. Objective: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the progressive degeneration and damage of neurons in the brain. However, developing an accurate diagnostic assay using blood samples remains a challenge in clinic practice. The aim of this study was to explore senescence‐associated secretory phenotypes (SASPs) in peripheral blood using mass spectrometry based multi‐omics approach and to establish diagnostic assays for AD. Methods: This retrospective study included 88 participants, consisting of 29 AD patients and 59 cognitively normal (CN) individuals. Plasma and serum samples were examined using high‐resolution mass spectrometry to identify proteomic and metabolomic profiles. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was employed to screen biomarkers with diagnostic potential. K‐nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm was utilized to construct a multi‐dimensional model for distinguishing AD from CN. Results: Proteomics analysis revealed upregulation of five plasma proteins in AD, including RNA helicase aquarius (AQR), zinc finger protein 587B (ZNF587B), C‐reactive protein (CRP), fibronectin (FN1), and serum amyloid A‐1 protein (SAA1), indicating their potential for AD classification. Interestingly, KNN‐based three‐dimensional model, comprising AQR, ZNF587B, and CRP, demonstrated its high accuracy in AD recognition, with evaluation possibilities of 0.941, 1.000, and 1.000 for the training, testing, and validation datasets, respectively. Besides, metabolomics analysis suggested elevated levels of serum phenylacetylglutamine (PAGIn) in AD. Interpretation: The multi‐omics outcomes highlighted the significance of the SASPs, specifically AQR, ZNF587B, CRP, and PAGIn, in terms of their potential for diagnosing AD and suggested neuronal aging‐associated pathophysiology. Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) refer to neurocognitive abnormalities detected during the perioperative periods, including preexisting cognitive impairment, preoperative delirium, delirium occurring up to 7 days after surgery, delayed neurocognitive recovery, and postoperative NCD. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders‐5th edition (DSM‐5) is the golden standard for diagnosing perioperative NCDs. Given the impracticality of using the DSM‐5 by non‐psychiatric practitioners, many diagnostic tools have been developed and validated for different clinical scenarios. The etiology of perioperative NCDs is multifactorial and includes predisposing and precipitating factors. Identifying these risk factors is conducive to preoperative risk stratification and perioperative risk reduction. Prevention for perioperative NCDs should include avoiding possible contributors and implementing nonpharmacologic and pharmacological interventions. The former generally includes avoiding benzodiazepines, anticholinergics, prolonged liquid fasting, deep anesthesia, cerebral oxygen desaturation, and intraoperative hypothermia. Nonpharmacologic measures include preoperative cognitive prehabilitation, comprehensive geriatric assessment, implementing fast‐track surgery, combined use of regional block, and sleep promotion. Pharmacological measures including dexmedetomidine, nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs, and acetaminophen are found to have beneficial effects. Nonpharmacological treatments are the first‐line measures for established perioperative NCDs. Pharmacological treatments are still limited to severely agitated or distressed patients. Means to control bacterial wilt caused by the phytopathogenic root bacteria Ralstonia solanacearum are limited. Mutants in a large cluster of genes ( hrp) involved in the pathogenicity of R. solanacearum were successfully used in a previous study as endophytic biocontrol agents in challenge inoculation experiments on tomato. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling this resistance remained unknown., We developed a protection assay using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model plant and analyzed the events underlying the biological control by genetic, transcriptomic and molecular approaches., High protection rates associated with a significant decrease in the multiplication of R. solanacearum were observed in plants pre-inoculated with a Δ hrpB mutant strain. Neither salicylic acid, nor jasmonic acid/ethylene played a role in the establishment of this resistance. Microarray analysis showed that 26% of the up-regulated genes in protected plants are involved in the biosynthesis and signalling of abscissic acid (ABA). In addition 21% of these genes are constitutively expressed in the irregular xylem cellulose synthase mutants ( irx), which present a high level of resistance to R. solanacearum., We propose that inoculation with the Δ hrpB mutant strain generates a hostile environment for subsequent plant colonization by a virulent strain of R. solanacearum. (S)‐equol, the most active metabolite of the soybean isoflavones in vivo, has exhibited various biological activities and clinical benefits. Existing studies on the heterologous biosynthesis of (S)‐equol via the engineered E. coli constructed have been significantly progressed. In the present study, the engineered E. coli was further improved to be more suitable for (S)‐equol production. The four enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of (S)‐equol and another GDH for NADPH regeneration were combined to construct the recombinant E. coli BL21(DE3). The optimal conditions for (S)‐equol production were explored, respectively. The yield of equol reached 98.05% with 1 mM substrate daidzein and 4% (wt/vol) glucose. Even when the substrate concentration increased to 1.5 mM, (S)‐equol could maintain a high yield of 90.25%. Based on the 100 ml one‐pot reaction system, (S)‐equol was produced with 223.6 mg/L in 1.5 h. The study presented a more suitable engineered E. coli for the production of (S)‐equol. Bioinformatics software showed β‐return and the random coil were shortened in the p.A99D. The variant did not affect the subcellular localization of PAX9, but the degradation rate of p.A99D was accelerated (p < 0.05). p.A99D inhibited the activation of downstream target gene BMP4 (p < 0.05).This novel variant expands the pathogenic gene spectrum. Textile‐based generators that can convert low‐grade energy from the human body or environment into sustainable electricity have generated immense scientific interest in self‐powered wearable applications. However, their low power density and environmental suitability have extremely restricted their portable applications in complex and mutable environments. Herein, an asymmetric sandwich structure between molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)‐carbonized silks (MCs) and MoS2/MXene–Cottons (MMCs) to construct efficient thermo–hydroelectric generators (THEGs) that synergistically harvest heat‐moisture energy to generate considerable electricity is rationally designed. Notably, the large surface area of MoS2/MXene van der Waals heterojunctions (vdWhs) enables efficient charge collection, and the vertical MoS2 nanosheet arrays supply abundant nanochannels for a highly efficient hydration effect, generating an output power density of 32.26 µW cm−2 after wetting with deionized water. Combined with the sensitive temperature recognition ability with a Seebeck coefficient of 23.5 µV K−1, the application possibilities of these prepared THEGs in the mutual conversion of fingertip temperature/language, and the monitoring of the human physiological state is foresee. Background: The dosage of ovalbumin (OVA) during the sensitization stage is considered a crucial factor in the development of airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). However, the inconsistent dosages of sensitizing OVA used in current studies and the lack of research on their impact on AHR are notable limitations. Methods: We examined the impact of increasing sensitizing doses of OVA in a murine asthma model, which entailed initial sensitization with OVA followed by repeated exposure to OVA aerosols. BALB/c mice were primed with doses of OVA (0, 10, 20, 50, and 100 μg) plus 1 mg Alum on Days 0 and 7, and were challenged with OVA aerosols (10 mg/mL for 30 min) between Days 14 and 17. Antigen‐induced AHR to methacholine (MCh), as well as histological changes, eosinophilic infiltration, and epithelial injury were assessed. Results: The result indicated that there are striking OVA dose‐related differences in antigen‐induced AHR to MCh. The most intense antigen‐induced AHR to MCh was observed with sensitization at 50 μg, while weaker responses were seen at 10, 20, and 100 μg. Meanwhile, there was a significant increase in eosinophil count with sensitization at 50 μg. The changes of AHR were correlated with total cells count, lymphocytes count, eosinophils count, and basophils count in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid; however, it did not correlate with histological changes such as cellular infiltration into bronchovascular bundles and goblet cell hyperplasia of the bronchial epithelium. Conclusion: Overall, this study demonstrated that sensitization with 50 μg of OVA resulted in the most significant AHR compared to other dosages. Objectives: YTHDF1 is known as a m6A reader protein, and many researches of YTHDF1 focused on the regulation of mRNA translation efficiency. However, YTHDF1 is also related to RNA degradation, but how YTHDF1 regulates mRNA degradation is indefinite. Liquid‐liquid phase separation (LLPS) underlies the formation of membraneless compartments in mammal cells, and there are few reports focused on the correlation of RNA degradation with LLPS. In this research, we focused on the mechanism of YTHDF1 degraded mRNA through LLPS. Materials and Methods: The CRISPR/Cas9 knock out system was used to establish the YTHDF1 knock out (YTHDF1‐KO) cell lines (HEK293 and HeLa) and METTL14 knock out (METTL14‐KO) cell line (HEK293). 4SU‐TT‐seq was used to check the half‐life changes of mRNAs. Actinomycin D and qPCR were used to test the half‐life changes of individual mRNA. RNA was stained with SYTO RNA‐select dye in wild type (WT) and YTHDF1‐KO HeLa cell lines. Co‐localization of YTHDF1 and AGO2 was identified by immunofluorescence. The interaction domain of YTHDF1 and AGO2 was identified by western blot. Phase separation of YTHDF1 was performed in vitro and in vivo. Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) was performed on droplets as an assessment of their liquidity. Results: In this research, we found that deletion of YTHDF1 led to massive RNA patches deposited in cytoplasm. The results of 4SU‐TT‐seq showed that deletion of YTHDF1 would prolong the half‐life of mRNAs. Immunofluorescence data showed that YTHDF1 and AGO2 could co‐localize in P‐body, and Co‐IP results showed that YTHDF1 could interact with AGO2 through YT521‐B homology (YTH) domain. We confirmed that YTHDF1 could undergo phase separation in vitro and in vivo, and compared with AGO2, YTHDF1 was more important in P‐body formation. The FRAP results showed that liquid AGO2 droplets would convert to gel/solid when YTHDF1 was deleted. As AGO2 plays important roles in miRISCs, we also found that miRNA‐mediate mRNA degradation is related to YTHDF1. Conclusions: YTHDF1 recruits AGO2 through the YTH domain. YTHDF1 degrades targeting mRNAs by promoting P‐body formation through LLPS. The deletion of YTHDF1 causes the P‐body to change from liquid droplets to gel/solid droplets, and form AGO2/RNA patches, resulting in a degradation delay of mRNAs. These findings reveal a previously unrecognized crosstalk between YTHDF1 and AGO2, raising a new sight of mRNA post‐transcriptional regulation by YTHDF1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Main observation and conclusion: Imine‐linked covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted extensive attention due to designable structures, tunable properties, and excellent thermal and chemical stability. They were typically obtained as insoluble and unprocessable powders, which seriously limits their full promise. Progress has been made in the synthesis of thin films of imine‐linked COFs by interfacial synthesis. However, the synthesis of highly crystalline, self‐supporting thin films of COFs remains challenging. Here, we employed a surfactants‐mediated method to synthesize such films at an air‐water interface, showed the films could be transferred onto arbitrary substrates on demand, and demonstrated the generality of the methodology with two different COFs. We found that the length of hydrophobic segments of surfactants played a key role in determination of the crystallinity and single crystalline domain size of the films. Background: Antibiotic resistance is the main cause of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) treatment failure. This study aimed to explore the characteristics of antibiotic resistance of H. pylori isolates in Beijing in the last 8 years and to estimate the impact of previous eradication failure on resistance patterns. Materials and methods: This retrospective study included data from a single center in Beijing from 2013 to 2020. Antibiotic susceptibility of 365 clinical H. pylori isolates was tested for amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and tetracycline. The characteristics of the included patients and their previous eradication history were collected. Primary and secondary resistance rates of H. pylori to the six antibiotics and the impact of previous eradication failure on antibiotic resistance patterns were analyzed. Results: The overall primary resistance rates of amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and tetracycline were 0.7%, 55.2%, 68.0%, 49.7%, 64.5%, and 0%, with no significant increase during the observed period; while the secondary resistance rates were 3.2%, 96.7%, 90.7%, 93.1%, 80.0%, and 0%, respectively. The secondary resistance rate of clarithromycin (p <.001), metronidazole (p =.001), and levofloxacin (p <.001) significantly increased to 100% as the number of previous eradication therapies increased and exhibited a linear association. For strains naive to eradication, only 6.8% were susceptible to all the antibiotics, while 32.4% were single resistant, and 60.8% dual or multiple resistant. Clarithromycin+metronidazole+fluoroquinolone multiple resistance was the predominant pattern (0 course: 21.6%, 1 course: 37.5%, 2 courses: 56.1%, ≥3 courses: 71.1%; p <.001) for patients with treatment failure. The prevalence of dual or multiple‐resistance patterns increased significantly as the number of previous therapies increased. Conclusions: The prevalence of primary and secondary resistance rates of clarithromycin, metronidazole, moxifloxacin, and levofloxacin were high in Beijing. Few studies have examined the relationship between lipid metabolism and kidney stone formation, particularly the role of key lipid regulatory factors in kidney stone formation. We evaluated the effect of the lipid regulatory factor‐peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor alpha on the formation of renal stones in mice by injecting them with glyoxylate followed by treatment with either a peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor alpha agonist fenofibrate or an antagonist GW6471 (GW). Liquid chromatography coupled with trapped ion mobility spectrometry‐quadrupole‐time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry‐based lipidomics was used to determine the lipid profile in the mouse kidneys. Histological and biochemical analyses showed that the mice injected with glyoxylate exhibited crystal precipitation and renal dysfunction. Crystallization decreased significantly in the fenofibrate group, whereas it increased significantly in the GW group. A total of 184 lipids, including fatty acyls, glycerolipids, glycerophospholipids, and sphingolipids differed significantly between the mice in the model and control groups. Peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor alpha activity negatively correlated with glyoxylate‐induced kidney stone formation in mice, which may be related to improved fatty acid oxidation, maintenance of ceramide/complex sphingolipids cycle balance, and alleviation of disorder in phospholipid metabolism. The mixing process of a dynamic impinging stream reactor was measured by planar laser induced fluorescence. The fluid flow pattern and mixing characteristics were studied under different conditions. The flow field was divided into the following regions by flow pattern: free jet region, impingement region, radial jet region, and radial vortex region. The mixing characteristics were analyzed under different operational conditions. The mixing time first decreased and then increased with increasing nozzle spacing. The mixing time decreased with increasing outlet velocity difference and outlet average velocity, and the optimal working conditions were nozzle spacing L = 4d, where d is nozzle diameter, outlet velocity difference vd = 1 m s−1, and outlet average velocity vp = 1.7 m s−1. Background: To estimate the adjusted conditional overall survival (COS) in patients with esophageal cancer after receiving various treatment modalities via a national population‐based database, and to investigate the possible time‐dependent effects. Materials and Methods: Eligible patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer between 2000 and 2016 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry. The Kaplan‐Meier method was used to calculate conventional survival time. The inverse probability of treatment weighting method was used to estimate the adjusted COS in patients receiving different treatment modalities. Landmark analysis was employed to investigate the possible time‐dependent effects of different treatment modalities in patients who had survived a certain period of time. Results: A total of 25,232 patients were included in the final analysis. The conventional 5‐year overall survival was 19.3%. The 5‐year adjusted COS increased most for the first 3 years, and increased slightly afterwards. In patients with regional esophageal or gastroesophageal junction cancer, stage‐specific analysis showed that surgery only and preoperative radiation therapy benefited most for patients with localized disease, preoperative radiation therapy plus surgery benefited regional, and preoperative radiation therapy plus surgery benefited distant disease, with the 5‐year adjusted COS given patients had survived 3 years being 67.0% (95% CI 65.2%–68.7%), 59.9% (95% CI 58.3%–61.5%), 58.4% (95% CI 56.3%–60.5%), and 61.8% (95% CI 59.5%–64.1%), respectively. In time‐dependent analysis, the benefits of surgery only in localized cases were prominent within 48 months after diagnosis. Preoperative radiation therapy showed long‐lasting benefits in patients with regional disease. In patients with distant disease, all treatment modalities showed similar and short‐term effects. Conclusions: The adjusted COS in patients with esophageal cancer increased as time accrued after receiving various treatment modalities. Objective: This study explored differences between primary Sjögren's syndrome‐associated interstitial lung disease (pSS‐ILD) patients with and without ILD progression, and analyzed the factors affecting the progression and prognosis of pSS‐ILD. Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study which enrolled 113 pSS‐ILD patients hospitalized between 2011 and 2017. Results: The 3‐year survival rate of the pSS‐ILD patients was 91.15%, and the 5‐year survival rate was 84.07%. Univariate analysis showed that Raynaud's syndrome, hypoproteinemia, extensive lung involvement, possible usual interstitial pneumonia pattern were risk factors for the progression of ILD in patients with pSS‐ILD, and cyclophosphamide was a protective factor for the progression of ILD in patients with pSS‐ILD. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that extensive lung involvement (odds ratio 4.143, 95% CI: 1.203‐14.267, P <.05) was an independent risk factor for the progression of pSS‐ILD. Cox hazard analysis showed that pSS‐ILD with hypoproteinemia (hazard ratio [HR] 17.758, 95% CI: 4.753‐66.340, P <‐.05) and extensive lung involvement (HR 3.450, 95% CI: 1.419‐8.390, P <.05) were associated with worse survival of patients. Conclusion: Extensive lung involvement is an independent risk factor for the progression of ILD in patients with pSS‐ILD. Hypoproteinemia and extensive lung involvement are independent risk factors for mortality in patients with pSS‐ILD, after controlling for potentially influential variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Here, we presented growth of thin films of two‐dimensional covalent organic frameworks with an average domain size of ~2.83 μm2 and maximum domain size of up to ~26.19 μm2 using amphiphilic glycine derivatives on water surface. We envisage that this work will inspire the growth of a wide variety of organic two‐dimensional materials with high crystallinity and boost their structure property investigations. Autonomic imbalance is an important characteristic of patients after myocardial infarction (MI) and adversely contributes to post‐MI cardiac remodeling and ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). A previous study proved that optogenetic modulation could precisely inhibit cardiac sympathetic hyperactivity and prevent acute ischemia‐induced VAs. Here, a wireless self‐powered optogenetic modulation system is introduced, which achieves long‐term precise cardiac neuromodulation in ambulatory canines. The wireless self‐powered optical system based on a triboelectric nanogenerator is powered by energy harvested from body motion and realized the effective optical illumination that is required for optogenetic neuromodulation (ON). It is further demonstrated that long‐term ON significantly mitigates MI‐induced sympathetic remodeling and hyperactivity, and improves a variety of clinically relevant outcomes such as improves ventricular dysfunction, reduces infarct size, increases electrophysiological stability, and reduces susceptibility to VAs. These novel insights suggest that wireless ON holds translational potential for the clinical treatment of arrhythmia and other cardiovascular diseases related to sympathetic hyperactivity. Moreover, this innovative self‐powered optical system may provide an opportunity to develop implantable/wearable and self‐controllable devices for long‐term optogenetic therapy.
