We have successfully prepared composite membranes consisting of the ionic liquid N-ethyl- N-methylpyrrolidinium fluorohydrogenate and the polymer 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate and have secured them on a polyimide (PI) membrane support. The resulting EMPyr(FH)1.7F-HEMA (9:1 molar ratio) composite possesses ionic conductivity of 75 mS cm−1 at 120 °C when a 16-µm support is employed, showing improved performance with elevated temperature; this marks a significant difference from devices using conventional polytetrafluoroethylene supports. In the single cell test, a maximum power density of 31 mW cm−2 is observed at 120 °C. Cross-sectional SEM images of the corresponding membrane electrode assemblies reveal no significant difference in membrane thickness before and after cell testing, implying that this support does not suffer from membrane softening issues. Twenty 5-week-old male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: one group was fed a fish oil-deficient diet and the other group was fed the same diet supplemented with per orally administered docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for 12 weeks. Six weeks after the start of the administration of DHA, rats were trained for 6 weeks to acquire a reward at the end of each of four arms of an eight-arm radial maze. On completion of the radial maze task, the Fos expression in the hippocampus was examined immunohistochemically. Chronic DHA administration significantly reduced the number of reference and working memory errors. The number of Fos-positive neurons in the CA1 hippocampus significantly increased in DHA-treated rats compared with control rats, demonstrating a statistically significant negative correlation with the number of reference memory errors. These results suggest that the DHA-induced improvement in spatial cognition is associated with increased Fos expression in the CA1 hippocampus.

In the title complex, (C(6)H(11)N(2))(3)[LaCl(6)], centrosymmetric octahedral hexachlorolanthanate anions are located at the corners and face-centers of the monoclinic unit cell. The ring H atoms of the cations interact with the Cl atoms of the anions via hydrogen bonding, and bifurcation of the hydrogen bonding is observed. Cation-cation interactions via hydrogen bonding between the ring H atoms and pi-electrons of aromatic rings are also observed as in other imidazolium salts.
