The present research examines how a temporal dimension of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) fashion style—consistent (vs. variable) fashion—influences stakeholders' perceptions of CEO competence. Based on the temporal aspect of attribution theory, we hypothesize that stakeholders perceive those CEOs who are consistent in their clothing across various occasions as more competent than CEOs who do not portray consistency. We also consider CEO gender a key moderator of the link between fashion consistency and perceived competence. Based on gender stereotypes and relatively unclear rules about women's clothing within professional settings, we hypothesize that the enhancement of perceived competence from a consistent fashion style is mitigated for female CEOs. Furthermore, by applying a zero‐sum belief in time management to CEOs' clothing decisions, we hypothesize that perceived work engagement mediates the "gender" moderation. Three studies, including a survey and two scenario‐based experiments in which we manipulate fashion consistency and CEO gender, largely supported the hypotheses. The results emphasize the importance for CEOs to strategically manage visual cues, like fashion style, focusing on either their consistency or variability when interacting with stakeholders across different occasions. In May 2022, monkeypox started to spread in nonendemic countries. To investigate contact tracing and self‐reporting of the primary case in the local community, a stochastic model is developed. An algorithm based on Gillespie's stochastic chemical kinetics is used to quantify the number of infections, contacts, and duration from the arrival of the primary case to the detection of the index case (or until there are no more local infections). Different scenarios were set considering the delay in contact tracing and behavior of infectors. We found that the self‐reporting behavior of a primary case is the most significant factor affecting outbreak size and duration. Scenarios with a self‐reporting primary case have an 86% reduction in infections (average: 5–7, in a population of 10 000) and contacts (average: 27–72) compared with scenarios with a non‐self‐reporting primary case (average number of infections and contacts: 27–72 and 197–537, respectively). Doubling the number of close contacts per day is less impactful compared with the self‐reporting behavior of the primary case as it could only increase the number of infections by 45%. The pandemic outbreak poses one of the most influential threats. When faced with such a threat, consumers engage in adaptive behaviors, and one way to do so may pertain to pattern‐seeking in their choices. Across five studies, we show that consumers exhibit patterns in sequential choice under the threat of COVID‐19. Specifically, consumers high (vs. low) in the perceived threat increase sequential patterns in repeated choice regardless of whether the levels of the perceived threat are measured or manipulated. The effect emerges even when a patterned choice option is objectively inferior to a nonpatterned option. The underlying mechanism of the effect is that consumers experience a lower sense of control, which motivates them to seek patterned choices to regain control threatened by the infectious disease. We further show that the effect on patterned choice is stronger for consumers with lower childhood socioeconomic status (SES), who are characterized by a lower sense of control, than their higher childhood SES counterparts. Noting that infectious disease threats are unavoidable, we offer theoretical contributions as well as novel insights into marketing practices under unpredictable and threatening situations. When do consumers trust artificial intelligence (AI)? With the rapid adoption of AI technology in the field of marketing, it is crucial to understand how consumer adoption of the information generated by AI can be improved. This study explores a novel relationship between number presentation details associated with AI and consumers' behavioral and evaluative responses toward AI. We theorized that consumer trust would mediate the preciseness effect on consumer judgment and evaluation of the information provided by AI. The results of five studies demonstrated that the use of a precise (vs. imprecise) information format leads to higher evaluations and behavioral intentions. We also show mediational evidence indicating that the effect of number preciseness is mediated by consumer trust (Studies 2, 4, and 5). We further show that the preciseness effect is moderated by the accuracy of AI‐generated information (Study 3) and the objective product quality of the recommended products (Study 4). This study provides theoretical implications to the AI acceptance literature, the information processing literature, the consumer trust literature, and the decision‐making literature. Background: No clear consensus exists as to whether neurodevelopmental abnormalities among substance users reflect predisposing neural risk factors, neurotoxic effects of substances, or both. Using a longitudinal design, we examined developmental patterns of the bidirectional links between neural mechanisms and substance use throughout adolescence. Method: 167 adolescents (aged 13–14 years at Time 1, 53% male) were assessed annually four times. Risk‐related neural processing was assessed by blood‐oxygen‐level‐dependent responses in the insula during a lottery choice task, cognitive control by behavioral performance during the Multi‐Source Interference Task, and substance use by adolescents' self‐reported cigarette, alcohol, and marijuana use. Results: Latent change score modeling indicated that greater substance use predicted increased insula activation during risk processing, but the effects of insula activation on changes in substance use were not significant. The coupling effect from substance use to insula activation was particularly strong for adolescents with low cognitive control, which supports the theorized moderating role of cognitive control. Conclusions: Our results elucidate how substance use may alter brain development to be biased toward maladaptive decision‐making, particularly among adolescents with poor cognitive control. Furthermore, the current findings underscore that cognitive control may be an important target in the prevention and treatment of adolescent substance use given its moderating role in the neuroadaptive effects of substance use on brain development. This study examined whether cognitive control mediated the association between socioeconomic status (SES; composite of income‐to‐needs ratio and parent education) and changes in risk‐taking behaviors. The sample included 167 dyads of adolescents (53% male; Mage = 14.07 years at Time 1) and their parents, assessed annually across 4 years. Parents reported socioeconomic variables at Time 1. Adolescents reported risk‐taking behaviors at Times 1 and 4, and completed a functional magnetic resonance imaging cognitive control task at Times 2 and 3. Lower SES was associated with lower behavioral (but not neural) cognitive control, which was associated with increases in risk‐taking behaviors. Background: After pandemic, A(H1N1)pdm09 is generally known to be associated with younger adults' infection and greater severity than seasonal A(H3N2) but some inconsistences between recent studies exist. Objectives: We aimed to compare the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) to verify and consolidate about the knowledge of known differences of subtypes. Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from the hospital‐based influenza morbidity and mortality surveillance in South Korea in nine tertiary care hospitals, from August 31, 2014, to August 25, 2018. Patients with H1N1pdm09 or H3N2 infection admitted in the emergency room or ward were recruited. Results: A total of 1747 patients had influenza A and were divided into two groups those with A(H1N1)pdm09 (n = 240) and those with A(H3N2) (n = 1507). A(H1N1)pdm09 group had younger age (mean age ± standard deviation 50.0 ± 18.8 in H1N1 vs 53.4 ± 21.1 in H3N2, P =.030), lower influenza vaccination (27.9% vs 43.9%, P <.001) and pneumococcal vaccination rates (41.0% vs 51.9%, P <.001), and fewer underlying diseases (67.5% vs 74.0%, P =.035) than the A(H3N2) group. Influenza A subtypes were not associated with pneumonia risk (adjusted odds ratios [AOR] of A(H1N1)pdm09: 0.7 [95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.4‐1.2, P =.172]) and in‐hospital mortality (hazard ratio (HR) of A(H1N1)pdm09: 1.0 (95% CI: 0.3‐3.1, P =.983)). Influenza vaccination reduced in‐hospital mortality in hospitalized patients (HR: 0.3 (95% CI: 0.1‐0.7), P =.005). Conclusions: A(H1N1)pdm09 infection was more common in younger patients without significant difference in pneumonia risk and in‐hospital mortality between subtypes. Objectives: To examine ontological insecurity as a predictor of positive psychotic‐like experiences (PLEs) relative to concepts of childhood trauma, parental bonding, and adult attachment style. Methods: A nonclinical sample (N = 298) completed the Ontological Insecurity Scale (OIS‐34), a new measure of ontological insecurity, along with measures of the above concepts. Results: The OIS‐34 accounted for a significantly greater proportion of unique variance in positive PLEs than any other theoretical variable. Anxious and avoidant adult attachment were also strongly associated with positive PLEs, but these relationships were mediated by the OIS‐34, ceasing to be significant once this latter variable entered the hierarchical regression equation. Conclusions: The results are consistent with R. D. Laing's theory that ontological insecurity plays a significant role in psychosis. Moreover, the results suggest that this concept may mediate the established relationship between anxious/avoidant adult attachment and positive PLEs. Objectives: The present study sought to develop a new psychometrically sound measure of ontological insecurity, the OIS‐34 and, determine its relationship with subclinical psychotic‐like experiences (PLEs). Methods: A nonclinical sample (N = 600) completed an initial 60‐item version of the new scale along with measures of PLEs, psychosis proneness, and mental health history. Results: Exploratory factor analysis indicated a single factor, ontological insecurity, with 34 items loading positively and above a criterion of 0.4. Internal consistency and test–retest reliability were excellent. The OIS‐34 correlated positively and significantly with psychosis proneness and subclinical positive and negative symptom PLEs. The OIS‐34 also differentiated significantly between participants with and without a history of mental health problems, including psychosis. Conclusions: The OIS‐34 appears to represent a psychometrically sound measure of ontological insecurity. The results suggest that the concept is associated with PLEs. Here we characterize genetic patterns across the range of House Sparrows in Kenya using six microsatellite markers. We screened House Sparrows from two remote locations in northern Kenya, Marsabit (n = 24) and Wajir (n = 27), which are separated from other colonized areas in Kenya by minimally developed, arid habitat, and then compared these birds with House Sparrows in 10 more central and longer established Kenyan cities (n = 233) in this range. House Sparrows from Marsabit and Wajir originated from a separate source, probably Somalia and/or Ethiopia, from other Kenyan House Sparrows, probably Mombasa. Furthermore, the genetic characteristics of northern and southern populations indicate that they have not yet mixed, supporting a hypothesis that the large, minimally (human) developed, arid landscape spanning nearly all of northern Kenya, including the 100 000 km2 Chalbi Desert, is a barrier to dispersal for House Sparrows. Objective: The Caring Contacts intervention has been implemented with a variety of methodologies. The purpose of this study was to examine high-risk inpatient preferences for the Caring Contacts intervention.Method: Veteran psychiatric inpatients (N = 154) completed an anonymous patient preferences survey to obtain feedback on Caring Contact methods such as message wording, preferred correspondent, frequency of contact, duration of the intervention, imagery, and mailing modality.Results: Eighty-five percent of veterans Agreed or Strongly Agreed that they would like to receive Caring Contacts from at least one of the correspondent options, with inpatient or outpatient mental health counselor, or primary care physician most preferred. Example messages based on prior studies were overwhelmingly rated as caring and helpful; 84% believed that Caring Contacts could help suicidal individuals. Letters or postcards sent through postal mail were preferred over e-mail or text messages. Participants most commonly thought Caring Contacts should be sent monthly for a period of a year.Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that most high-risk veterans would perceive Caring Contacts as helpful and caring. We examined whether cognitive control moderates the effects of emotion on adolescent internalizing and externalizing symptomatology in a longitudinal study of 138 adolescents. Self‐reported positive affect (PA) and negative affect and behavioral and neural indicators of cognitive control, indexed by performance and prefrontal hemodynamic response during a cognitive interference task, were collected at Time 1. Self‐reported internalizing and externalizing symptomatology were collected at Time 1 and Time 2 (1 year later). Results indicated that higher PA predicted decreases in externalizing symptomatology, but only for adolescents with poor neural cognitive control. No moderation effects were found for behavioral cognitive control. Findings imply the beneficial effects of PA on the development of externalizing problems among adolescents with poor prefrontal functioning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The burden of herpes zoster may be related to patients' immunity, although this has not been studied extensively. This hypothesis was tested in a matched case-control study of patients with herpes zoster who sought treatment at one of seven university hospitals in Korea from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2010. Patients diagnosed with herpes zoster were placed into three groups based on their immune status: severely immunocompromised, mild-to-moderately immunocompromised, and normal immunity. Each patient in the severely immunocompromised group was matched with one patient in the mild-to-moderately immunocompromised group and one patient in the normal immunity group in the same hospital based on age, sex, and date of herpes zoster onset. A total of 582 patients with herpes zoster were included in the analysis: 194 in each of the three groups. Patients in the severely immunocompromised group had the highest herpes zoster-related hospitalization rate as compared to patients in the mild-to-moderately immunocompromised and normal immune groups ( P < 0.01). The length of hospital stay and herpes zoster-related medical cost increased significantly with the deterioration of patients' immunity ( P < 0.01, respectively). Cutaneous complications occurred more frequently in the severely immunocompromised group than in the other two groups ( P < 0.01). An increase in herpes zoster burden was observed as the patients' immunity decreased. Background: Falls and their associated injuries profoundly impact health outcomes, functional independence, and health care expenses, particularly for the ever-increasing elderly population. This systematic search and review assessed the current evidence for the role of fall screening assessments. Objective: To review the current evidence for fall risk screening assessments in community-dwelling (outpatient), inpatient medical and surgical wards, inpatient rehabilitation centers, and postrehabilitation outpatient settings. Data Sources: MEDLINE and Embase (January 1980 to December 2012). Study Selection: Prospective validation studies of acute medical or surgical inpatients, acute rehabilitation inpatients, outpatients who completed acute inpatient rehabilitation, or community-dwelling elderly. Data Extraction: Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, receiver operating characteristics with area under the curve. Results: We summarized key findings from 6 literature reviews. We then identified 31 articles: 12 studies in community setting, 13 in the acute medical inpatient or surgical inpatient setting, and 6 studies in the rehabilitation setting. Twenty-two studies not previously reviewed were included, and 9 studies previously reviewed were considered relevant and were included to allow comparison with data from the studies not previously reviewed. Conclusion: We recommend consideration of 7 assessment tools to be used in conjunction with overall clinical evaluation to assess falls risk: the Timed Up and Go Test with a cutoff of >12.34 seconds and Functional Gait Assessment among community-dwelling elderly; St Thomas Risk Assessment Tool in medical inpatients <65 years old and surgical inpatients; Hendrich fall risk model II in medical inpatients; 10-Minute Walk Test in patients in poststroke rehabilitation; and Berg Balance Scale or the Step Test in patients in poststroke rehabilitation who had fallen during their inpatient stay. Influenza epidemics occur annually with variations in size and severity. Hospital-based Influenza Morbidity & Mortality was established to monitor influenza epidemics and their severity, which is composed of two surveillance systems: emergency room-based and inpatient-based surveillance. Regarding emergency room-based surveillance, influenza-like illness index (influenza-like illness cases per 1,000 emergency room-visiting subjects), number of laboratory-confirmed cases and the distribution of influenza types were estimated weekly. Inpatient-based surveillance included monitoring for hospitalization, complications, and mortality. The emergency room influenza-like illness index correlated well with the number of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases, and showed a bimodal peak at Week 4 (179.2/1,000 emergency room visits) and Weeks 13-14 (169.6/1,000 emergency room visits) of 2012. Influenza A was the predominant strain during the first epidemic peak, while influenza B was isolated exclusively during the second peak. In 2011-2012 season, the mean admission rate of emergency room-visiting patients with influenza-like illness was 16.3% without any increase over the epidemic period. Among the hospitalized patients with influenza, 33.6% (41 out of 122 patients) were accompanied by complications, and pneumonia (28.7%, 35 out of 122 patients) was the most common. Most fatal cases were caused by influenza A (96.2%) after the first epidemic peak. In conclusion, Hospital-based Influenza Morbidity & Mortality was effective for monitoring the trends in circulating influenza activity concurrently with its severity. In the 2011-2012 season, the influenza epidemic persisted for a ≥5-month period, with a bimodal peak of influenza A and B in sequence. Overall, influenza A was more severe than influenza B. J. Med. Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) causes chickenpox and herpes zoster. Korea is assumed to have a high seroprevalence of VZV, although data are scant. A cross-sectional and age-stratified study was conducted to investigate the seroprevalence of VZV in different ages in the South Korean population. Four medical institutions were chosen in the southwestern area of Seoul in the vicinity of Gyeonggi-do. Serum samples were obtained at each institution from consenting patients during April-August, 2008. Anti-VZV IgG antibody was measured by an enzyme immunoassay. Of the 887 patients, 87.6% had anti-VZV IgG antibody. The prevalence of anti-VZV IgG antibody was 75% during the first 3 months after birth, but was only 13.6% 12 months after birth. Anti-VZV IgG antibody prevalence increased, first at 1-2 years of age, and then at 5-6 years of age. The seroprevalence rate exceeded 90% in subjects over 11 years of age. The results show that the seroprevalence of VZV is relatively high in the South Korean population. A study on the rate of varicella vaccination and the vaccine's efficacy in South Korea is warranted. Influenza vaccine is considered to reduce influenza-related morbidity and mortality in patients with underlying chronic medical conditions. Because of fear of vaccine shortage during an influenza pandemic, several antigen sparing strategies have been investigated. The immunogenicity of intradermal influenza vaccination with one half the antigenic contents was compared to that of conventional intramuscular vaccination in patients with solid cancer, and adverse events were assessed after vaccination. There was no significant difference between the injection routes in the hemagglutinin inhibition (HI) response and increase in the titer of A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B 4-6 weeks after the vaccination; seroconversion factors increased by more than 2.5-fold. Seroresponse rates were more than 40% and seroprotection rates were above 70% against all three influenza strains irrespective of the vaccination routes. No serious events were observed, and local skin reactions were more frequent in the intradermal injection recipients than in the intramuscular recipients (32.7% vs. 9.1%). This study shows that intradermal injection of one half the dose of a commercial influenza vaccine elicits immune responses comparable to those elicited by a full dose of intramuscular vaccine among cancer patients, and it can be tolerated without serious adverse reactions. Abstract: We reviewed the results of 50 magnetic resonance (MR) cholangiograms to evaluate their usefulness in directing clinical management in young patients after liver transplantation (LTx). Thirty-two patients underwent 50 MR cholangiograms on a 1.5-T unit. Studies were performed from 1 week to 16 yr after LTx. Indications included biochemical abnormalities with (n = 19) or without (n = 16) biopsy evidence for chronic rejection, sepsis (n = 14), and intractable ascites (n = 1). Original interpretations were compared to laboratory and ultrasound findings, and clinical outcome. Of 19 studies performed on 14 patients with biopsy evidence of chronic rejection, 16 were abnormal on MR (but only one was abnormal on ultrasound), resulting in corrective surgery (n = 1), re-Tx (n = 1), and endoscopic dilatation (n = 1). Of 16 studies on 16 patients with biochemical abnormalities without evidence of chronic rejection on biopsy, 14 were abnormal on MR (but only five of 13 on ultrasound), leading to corrective surgery (n = 3) and re-listing for Tx (n = 3). Thirteen of 14 studies on six patients with sepsis were abnormal on MR (five of nine were abnormal on ultrasound), identifying surgically correctable strictures (n = 2), and leading to re-Tx (n = 1) and percutaneous biliary drainage procedures (n = 2). The one patient with ascites had a normal study. We advocate usage of MR cholangiography for the detection of biliary complications after LTx, particularly in those patients who present with biochemical abnormalities that are not easily explained by acute cellular rejection or viral infection and in those with biliary sepsis. This paper describes the experience gained from a research collaboration between a group of researchers at the National University of Singapore and logistics executives in Sembcorp Logistics (formerly ST Logistics), in the latter's effort to develop a marketing and strategic planning software tool to enhance its third party logistics (3PL) services in China. As China opened up its economy in the late 1980s, many Western consumer goods manufacturers set up plants or formed joint ventures in China in an attempt to capture this huge market. While the production process can be easily built on the existing technologies and can be efficient costwise, the distribution process is still a challenge because of the backward nature of the infrastructure and the bureaucratic roadblocks, resulting in very high supply chain transaction costs. Consequently, most manufacturers turn to third-party logistics providers (3PLs) who have the required logistics expertise to operate in China. One of the leading 3PLs in China is Shenzhen ST-Anda Logistics (ST-Anda), a joint venture between Sembcorp Logistics and China Merchant Holdings. It has an existing pan-China network of distribution centers. Recently, to improve services to their customers, ST-Anda started planning for the expansion of their logistics distribution network.
