The articulator is a prerequisite device for the analysis of occlusion and prosthodontic treatment, and it is required to simulate patient jaw movements. This article describes the technique to obtain sagittal condylar inclination (SCI) using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data and intraoral scan of the protrusive interocclusal position. The SCI can be used on a virtual articulator in a computer‐aided design software, and it can assist in the fabrication of prosthesis which is harmonious with the mandibular movement of individual patient. The effect of gamma-ray (γ-ray) irradiation on the material characteristics of nanometre scale films of molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) has been investigated. 3.2, 4.5, and 5.2 nm thick MoS2 films (measured by atomic force microscopy) were grown on Si by using a two-step synthesis method (sputtering of Mo, followed by sulphurisation). The samples were subsequently exposed to γ-ray irradiation (dose of 120 MRad). Dramatic chemical changes in the MoS2 films after irradiation were characterised by micro-Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and optical microscopy. Micro-Raman spectroscopy showed the disappearance of the E2g¹ and A1g modes after irradiation. XPS revealed that the MoS2 crystal structure was converted to molybdenum oxide (MoOx). It is hypothesised that S vacancies are formed due to the γ-ray irradiation, which subsequently transforms MoS2 to MoOx. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biocompatible solid electrolyte chitosan is introduced as a protonic/electronic electric double layer (EDL) dielectric in a multilayer MoS2 transistor. This chitosan-bioinspired transistor can operate at a low working voltage (<3 V) and exhibits an asymmetric ambipolar behavior. A high on/off ratio (∼104) was achieved for both electrons and holes, in conjunction with a very steep subthreshold swing (67 mV/dec) which is close to the theoretical limit of an ideal field-effect transistor (60 mV/dec). It was established that the on-state conductance of these devices is strongly limited by the contact resistance of the metal-MoS2 junctions, and the conductance can be increased by a factor of ∼3 by using dual-gate electrostatic modulation. Further exploiting the double-gate geometry allows us to characterize the contact resistance in the on-regime. We make a numerical simulation and observe important contributions that are independently modulated by back and top gates stemming from Schottky barriers formed at the MoS2/metal interface and the chitosan-induced charge accumulation near the electrode, respectively. Such EDL multilayer MoS2 transistors with bioinspired chitosan solid electrolyte can provide a new opportunity for the fabrication of low voltage and cost-effective two-dimensional semiconductor devices which are also biocompatible and environment friendly. Films of Ag nanoislands (NIs) were successfully grown on two different transparent conducting oxide coated substrates (indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass and indium oxide (In2O3) coated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) flexible film) by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering. The morphology of the Ag NIs was studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Both SEM and TEM confirm the formation of silver NIs. To amplify the localised surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect, post‐deposition annealing was performed at 200°C for 30 minutes in a nitrogen atmosphere, resulting in tuning the shape and size of the NIs. Optical transmission spectroscopy was performed in the ultraviolet–visible–near‐infrared spectral region to examine the SPR characteristics of the Ag NIs deposited on ITO‐glass and In2O3‐PET. Post‐deposition annealing is found to tune the SPR wavelength and results in strong enhancement of the SPR of the Ag NIs on both ITO‐glass and In2O3‐PET. DC magnetron sputtering and the post‐deposition annealing technique can be applied for the growth of size‐controlled Ag NIs.
