The objective of this research is to enable safety‐critical systems to simultaneously learn and execute optimal control policies in a safe manner to achieve complex autonomy. Learning optimal policies via trial and error, that is, traditional reinforcement learning, is difficult to implement in safety‐critical systems, particularly when task restarts are unavailable. Safe model‐based reinforcement learning techniques based on a barrier transformation have recently been developed to address this problem. However, these methods rely on full‐state feedback, limiting their usability in a real‐world environment. In this work, an output‐feedback safe model‐based reinforcement learning technique based on a novel barrier‐aware dynamic state estimator has been designed to address this issue. The developed approach facilitates simultaneous learning and execution of safe control policies for safety‐critical linear systems. Ground magnetic field variations have been used to investigate ionospheric dynamics for more than a century. They are usually explained in terms of an electric circuit in the ionosphere driven by an electric field, but this is insufficient to explain how magnetic field disturbances are dynamically established. Here we explain and simulate how the ionosphere dynamically responds to magnetospheric forcing and how it leads to magnetic field deformation via Faraday's law. Our approach underscores the causal relationships, treating the magnetic field and velocity as primary variables (the B, v paradigm), whereas the electric field and current are derived, in contrast to the E, j paradigm commonly used in ionospheric physics. The simulation approach presented here could be used as an alternative to existing circuit‐based numerical models of magnetosphere‐ionosphere coupling. Owing to their excellent properties, duplex stainless steels (DSSs) may be selected for the H2S environment. Operational limits are not defined and depend on fabrication processes. In this work, the susceptibilities of two DSSs 2205 to sulfide stress corrosion (SSC) in saline solutions with three pH levels were investigated. The difference between materials is the fabrication route: hot rolled (HR) tubes and powder metallurgy with compacting and sintering final operations by hot isostatic pressing (PM‐HIP). The susceptibility parameters were evaluated by slow strain rate tensile tests (SSRT). Both materials suffered embrittlement in solutions with pH 3.5 and 4.5, but the susceptibility was slightly better in the HR. In the solution with pH 5.5, the HR fractured with ductile behavior, while the PM‐HIP was brittle. The better resistance of HR to SSC can be explained by microstructural features, such as the lower grain size and austenite island interspace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Asymmetric deformation density analysis is applied on bilayer graphene flakes as molecular capacitors to identify the extent of asymmetric distribution of electrons and holes when exposed to bias voltage. Three triangular, orthorhombic, and hexagonal symmetries for graphene flakes are considered in two sizes and electric field potential is applied along the vector perpendicular to graphene flakes' plane to simulate 1–4 V as the bias voltage applied to molecular‐scale capacitors The number of electrons responsible for asymmetric distribution of electrons and holes, and occupied to virtual transfer are calculated, and electric field deformation density analysis is also performed that shows distributions of electrons and holes are quite asymmetric for the orthorhombic symmetry, while for the other symmetries, they are almost image of each other. It was found that isosurfaces of deformation density distribution possess a multilayer structure and accretion and depletion of electrons can be taken place between flakes or outside the parallel flakes, and it is shown that bias voltage is able to significantly remove symmetry of electrons and holes distribution. Inspection of molecular orbitals showed that electric field could change the energetic order of molecular orbitals, so that occupancy inversion is occurred for the orthorhombic systems that is responsible for their extraordinary properties. Sexual dimorphisms are generated by divergent processes, such as natural or sexual selection and niche convergence. Males and females of the lesser guitarfish, Zapteryx brevirostris, present morphological differences in their discs, and the relationships with the species biology and ecology were unrecognized. Analysing the morphometry of 201 specimens and the influence of bottom features on the frequencies of 188 specimens among life stages and sexes, we found strong evidence that gonadal maturation leads to dimorphisms on discs, validating a concavity on male pectoral fins as a secondary sexual dimorphism and rejecting the hypothesis that such dimorphisms were related to ecological pressures. The principal component analysis (PCA) and permutational MANOVA (PERMANOVA) analyses revealed that males and females shared similar body aspects until they reached maturity, mainly due to lower variations in WD, WR, LD, DPRO, and LSC at younger life stages. The relationships of these variables with LT corroborate the former results, showing a changing point around LT > 30 cm where females started to attain larger measurements than males. Moreover, we revealed ontogenetic shifts, with adults from both sexes exploring different habitats than juveniles and subadults. Differences in frequencies of each life stage were best explained by organic matter (OM) with the adults exploring bottom habitats of higher concentrations of OM than juveniles and subadults, strengthening the assumption that body differences between sexes are not related to ecological pressures. These results bring not only new insights about the possible advantages that those morphometric differences provide to males while mating but also information about the abiotic influences on species distribution, which, along with knowledge of local oceanographic dynamics and benthic community patterns, would inform actions for species conservation. Highlights This paper presents an experimental examination of the compression demeanor of lightweight corrugated core composite (CCC) sandwich panel and corrugated core smart composites (CCSC) sandwich panels subjected to quasi‐static edgewise compression loading. The existence of shape memory alloy (SMA) wires and pre‐strain percentages of SMA are the indicators studied in this article. The fabrication procedure presented and the appraisement of the mechanical properties of the CCC and CCSC sandwich panels are expressed. The core geometry of samples is trapezoid corrugated made of aluminum. The facesheets are four layers of woven glass fiber/ epoxy laminated composite. For evaluation of the efficacy of the presence of SMA wires on mechanical specifications of sandwich panels, three SMA wires with various pre‐strain percentages (0%, 3%, and 6%) are embedded in each composite facesheet. Mechanical properties of all types of CCC and CCSC sandwich panels such as maximum force, critical damage force, specific strength, absorb energy, specific toughness, Young's modulus, and specific stiffness were evaluated. Results showed that the CCC sandwich panel has higher mechanical specifications than the CCSC sandwich panels with 0% and 3% pre‐strain. Also, increasing pre‐strained SMA wires improves all mechanical parameters of CCSC sandwich panels. CCSC sandwich panel with 6% pre‐strain has the highest compression properties than other sandwich panels. Maximum Force, Critical Damage Force, Specific Strength, Absorbed Energy, Specific Toughness, Young's Modulus, and Specific Stiffness of CCSC sandwich panel with 6% pre‐strain are 14.73 kN, 13.6 kN, 9.55 MPa/g, 26.61 kJ, 0.346 MJ/m3g, 4395 MPa and 0.61 kN/mm g, respectively. Treatment with erythropoietin (EPO) can correct anaemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients; however, up to 10% exhibit resistance or hyporesponsiveness to EPO. Non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), prevalent liver disease in CKD patients, may limit EPO response because of thrombopoietin deficiency, iron homeostasis disorder and inflammation. Therefore, we hypothesized NAFLD is a risk factor for EPO responsiveness. To test our hypothesis, we evaluated the effect of EPO in healthy rats and rats with NAFLD induced by a high‐fat, high‐carbohydrate (HFHC) diet. After 12 weeks on the HFHC diet, NAFLD rats showed lower erythroid response to EPO treatment than healthy rats. We, then, determined that the primary cause of EPO hyporesponsiveness could be iron deficiency associated with inflammation, which reduces erythroid cell production. Specifically, the concentrations of hepcidin, ferritin, transferrin and white blood cells in NAFLD rats were 12.8‐, 16.4‐, 2.51‐ and 1.40‐fold higher than those in healthy rats, respectively. However, erythroid cell types in the bone marrow of NAFLD rats were significantly reduced. In conclusion, our data suggest that NAFLD could be a risk factor for EPO responsiveness, which is attributed to functional iron deficiency associated with inflammation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Animal space use and spatial overlap can have important consequences for population‐level processes such as social interactions and pathogen transmission. Identifying how environmental variability and inter‐individual variation affect spatial patterns and in turn influence interactions in animal populations is a priority for the study of animal behaviour and disease ecology. Environmental food availability and macroparasite infection are common drivers of variation, but there are few experimental studies investigating how they affect spatial patterns of wildlife.Bank voles (Clethrionomys glareolus) are a tractable study system to investigate spatial patterns of wildlife and are amenable to experimental manipulations. We conducted a replicated, factorial field experiment in which we provided supplementary food and removed helminths in vole populations in natural forest habitat and monitored vole space use and spatial overlap using capture–mark–recapture methods.Using network analysis, we quantified vole space use and spatial overlap. We compared the effects of food supplementation and helminth removal and investigated the impacts of season, sex and reproductive status on space use and spatial overlap.We found that food supplementation decreased vole space use while helminth removal increased space use. Space use also varied by sex, reproductive status and season. Spatial overlap was similar between treatments despite up to threefold differences in population size.By quantifying the spatial effects of food availability and macroparasite infection on wildlife populations, we demonstrate the potential for space use and population density to trade‐off and maintain consistent spatial overlap in wildlife populations. The reactivity of 22 unsaturated molecules undergoing attack by a methyl radical (⋅CH3) have been elucidated using the condensed radical general‐purpose reactivity indicator (condensed radical GPRI) appropriate for relatively nucleophilic or electrophilic molecules. Using the appropriate radical GPRI equation for electrophilic attack or nucleophilic radical attack, seven different population schemes were used to assign the most reactive atoms in each of the 22 molecules. The results show that the condensed radical GPRI is sensitive to the population scheme chosen, but less sensitive than the radical Fukui function. Therefore, the reliability of these methods depends on the population scheme. Our investigation indicates that the condensed radical GPRI is most accurate in predicting the dominant products of the methyl radical addition reactions on a variety of unsaturated molecules when the Hirshfeld, Merz–Singh–Kollman, or Voronoi deformation density population schemes are used. Furthermore, for all populations schemes in the majority of instances where the radical Fukui function failed the radical GPRI was able to identify the most reactive atom under certain reactivity conditions. The main challenge facing agricultural crop production in the current global climate change scenario is sustainability. Drought, as a yield‐limiting factor, has become a major threat to international food security. Tolerance to drought is a complex trait and its response is carried out by various genes, transcription factors, microRNAs, hormones, proteins, cofactors, ions and metabolites. The complexity of the trait has limited the development of drought‐tolerant sweet potato cultivars by traditional breeding. Advances in sweet potato breeding to exploit the full potential of the crop to contribute to improved and higher performing sweet potato cultivars, adapted to increasingly risky rainfed conditions, mainly drought, are key to making food production systems more efficient and more tolerant to pressure from drought and other stressors. Genetic gain for yield potential in sweet potato has improved mostly in African countries, mainly as a result of an accelerated breeding scheme. The focus on maximising the utilisation of molecular tools for sweet potato improvement and yield has been recently explored in breeding programmes in sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA). This article provides an update on the trends and gaps in sweet potato breeding in SSA, reviewing the relevant strategies used to improve sweet potato in the region. Finally, the perspectives of using new advanced tools including genetic engineering and genome editing, and the challenges associated with climate change for further improvement of the crop are highlighted. Collaborative efforts in African countries are driving advances in breeding methods through the incorporation of molecular tools to develop drought‐tolerant sweet potato varieties that are important to global food security despite challenges posed by the drastic change in climate. This work demonstrates the use of jute stick extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent for the synthesis of spherical gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). In UV‐Vis spectroscopy, peak at 550 nm was used to confirm the formation of AuNPs. The spherical surface morphology of AuNPs was determined through SEM and TEM analysis. While XRD investigation revealed the crystallinity of the prepared AuNPs. To ensure the biocompatibility of synthesized AuNPs, a bacterial investigation was conducted with negative results towards bacterial strain. The, modified FTO with AuNPs were able to detect glucose in CV analysis and the constructed sensor displayed a wide linear range of 50 μM to 40 mM with a detection limit of 20 μM. Scan rate analysis was performed to determine the charge transfer coefficient (0.42) and Tafel slope (102 mV/decade). Furthermore, the interfacial surface mechanism is illustrated to understand the interaction of glucose with the electrode surface in an alkaline medium and the product formation through the dehydrogenation and hydrolysis process. The prepared sensor also showed good stability, reproducibility, and anti‐interference capabilities. In the case of real sample analysis, we used a blood serum sample. The multi‐to hyperspectral evolution of satellite ocean color sensors is anticipated to enable satellite‐based identification of phytoplankton biodiversity, a key factor in aquatic ecosystem functioning and upper ocean biogeochemistry. In this work the bio‐optical Phytoplankton Detection with Optics (PHYDOTax) approach for deriving taxonomic (class‐level) phytoplankton community composition (PCC, e.g. diatoms, dinoflagellates) from hyperspectral information is evaluated in the Chesapeake Bay estuary on the U.S. East Coast. PHYDOTax is among relatively few optical‐based PCC differentiation approaches available for optically complex waters, but it has not yet been evaluated beyond the California coastal regime where it was developed. Study goals include: (a) testing the approach in a turbid estuary including novel incorporation of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) and non‐algal particles (NAP), and (b) performance assessment with both synthetic mixture and field data sets. Algorithm skill was robust on synthetic mixtures. Using field data, cryptophyte and/or cyanophyte phytoplankton groups were predicted, but diatom and dinoflagellate detection was not conclusive. For one field data set, small but significant improvements were observed in predicted PCC groups when tested with incorporation of CDOM and NAP into the algorithm, but not for the second field data set. Sensitivity to three hyperspectral‐relevant spectral resolutions (1, 5, 10 nm) was low for all field and synthetic data. PHYDOTax can identify some phytoplankton groups in the estuary using hyperspectral, field‐collected measurements, but validation‐quality data with broad temporospatial coverage are needed to determine whether the approach is robust enough for science applications. Douglas‐fir [Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco] is the predominant forest plantation species in the Pacific Northwest (PNW), with site productivity and fertilizer response influenced by climate and soil variations. This study investigates the utility of in situ 12‐week supply measurements of nitrogen (N), calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P) to ion‐exchange resins (specifically Plant Root Simulator [PRS] probes) to estimate carbon (C):N ratios, soil nutrient contents (0–1 m), foliar nutrient concentrations, Douglas‐fir productivity (site index and basal area mean annual increment), and fertilizer volume response. PRS nutrient supply rates were correlated with N, Ca, and P soil nutrient contents (0–1 m), C:N ratios, and foliar nutrient concentrations. Low PRS NO3 supply rates (<25 mg N·m−2·burial period−1) were correlated with lower Douglas‐fir productivity and greater fertilizer volume response. PRS NO3 supply rates performed as well as total soil N contents and foliar N concentrations at estimating volume growth response to fertilizer. Twelve weeks after fertilization, PRS NO3, NH4, and Ca supply rates were significantly elevated compared to the unfertilized treatment. This research found that PRS probes were an effective in situ tool and are recommended for understanding N, Ca, and P nutrient availabilities, site productivity, and fertilizer response in Douglas‐fir plantations and for developing fertilizer prescriptions. Background and Purpose Experimental Approach Key Results Conclusions and Implications Our previous study reported that erythroferrone (ERFE), a newly identified hormone produced by erythroblasts, responded to recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) sensitively but its dynamics was complicated by double peaks and circadian rhythm. This study intends to elucidate the underlying mechanisms for the double peaks of ERFE dynamics and further determine whether early ERFE measurements can predict haemoglobin responses to rHuEPO.By using the purified recombinant rat ERFE protein and investigating its deposition in rats, the production of ERFE was deconvoluted. To explore the role of iron in ERFE production, we monitored short‐term changes of iron status after injection of rHuEPO or deferiprone. Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modelling was used to confirm the mechanisms and examine the predictive ability of ERFE for long‐term haemoglobin responses.The rRatERFE protein was successfully purified. The production of ERFE was deconvoluted and showed two independent peaks (2 and 8 h). Transient iron decrease was observed at 4 h after rHuEPO injection and deferiprone induced significant increases of ERFE. Based on this mechanism, the PK/PD model could characterize the complex dynamics of ERFE. In addition, the model predictions further revealed a stronger correlation between ERFE and haemoglobin peak values than that for observed values.The complex dynamics of ERFE should be composited by an immediate release and transient iron deficiency‐mediated secondary production of ERFE. We examine the factors that influence climate change disclosure and its effects on firm value in the context of Sri Lanka. By leveraging data spanning 1031 firm‐year observations from 2017 to 2022, an innovative machine‐learning technique is employed to quantify the level of climate change disclosure within annual corporate reports. Our findings indicate that factors such as firm size, size of the board of directors, the presence of independent and non‐executive directors on the board, and gender diversity of the board positively impact the extent of climate change disclosure. Notably, CEO duality, where the CEO and chairman roles are held by the same individual, demonstrates a negative relationship with climate change disclosure, suggesting that distinct roles can enhance transparency. This underscores the significant role of robust corporate governance practices in promoting environmental transparency and accountability. Additionally, the paper further assesses the implications of climate change disclosure on firm value, revealing that enhanced transparency in climate change disclosure positively impacts firm value. The first studies on [Ru]‐catalyzed Asymmetric Ring‐Closing Ene‐Yne Metathesis (ARCEYM) are disclosed in this communication. The desymmetrization of achiral ene‐diyne substrates afforded the corresponding exo cyclic compounds in good yields and enantioselectivities (up to 69 % ee). The increasing temperatures and shifts in meteorological conditions have heightened the vulnerability of Bangladesh's densely populated regions, known for their high heat and humidity, to potential health hazards. While the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is a widely acknowledged and robust measure for evaluating heat stress in various occupational and outdoor environments, its widespread application is impeded by the complexity of calculations, the substantial computational resources required, and the need for specialized expertise, particularly in developing nations. Therefore, this study aimed to develop simplified equations for estimating WBGT in Bangladesh using meteorological variables. This study applied Liljegren's model on high‐resolution reanalysis data of the European Centre for Medium‐Range Weather Forecasts (ERA5) to calculate WBGT from 1979 to 2021. Subsequently, linear and nonlinear regressions were used to derive simplified equations for estimating Liljegren WBGT in Bangladesh. The quadratic regression models offer simplified equations for WBGT estimation. The model with only temperature (Ta) as an input estimates WBGT with an R2 of 0.967 and an RMSE of 0.716, effectively capturing a significant portion of WBGT variability. The inclusion of solar radiation (SR) with Ta improved the performance, with an R2 of 0.996 and an RMSE of 0.242. The best parsimonious model, with an R2 of 0.986 and an RMSE of 0.471, is derived when wind speed is considered with Ta and SR inputs, achieving an R2 of 0.993 and an RMSE of 0.331. Comprehensive graphical and statistical analyses confirm the high accuracy of all models. The three‐input model notably demonstrates exceptional performance, attaining optimal values for critical metrics, including extreme WBGT. The results affirm the practical suitability of the derived models for accurate estimations of WBGT in Bangladesh. These equations provide simplified tools for assessing heat stress conditions, contributing to public health initiatives, occupational safety guidelines, and climate change adaptation strategies. Laboratory experiments suggest that reversible changes in the heart ventricle phenotype of fish accompany acclimation to temperature change to maintain cardiac function, but related work in fish living in natural conditions is scant. We investigated seasonal variation in heart ventricular mass and collagen content in pumpkinseed sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus) living in outdoor ponds where they experienced high seasonality conditions. Additionally, we compared populations adapted to high and low seasonality to evaluate potential divergence in seasonal heart plasticity. Heart ventricular mass decreased in the summer compared to colder seasons only in populations adapted to high seasonality. The absence of seasonal variation in ventricular mass in sunfish adapted to low seasonality was not due to changes in foraging activity, suggesting a loss of ventricle size plasticity due to either costs of plasticity or relaxed selection. Seasonal variation in ventricle collagen content also occurred, with the highest collagen content in summer regardless of population adaptation to high or low seasonality. Only the proportion of thick collagen fibres changed across seasons. We conclude that natural seasonal cues induce plastic responses in some functional heart traits and propose that these responses can rapidly diverge among populations under different seasonal regimes. The current work examines an experimental and numerical investigation into how steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) slab failure behavior is influenced by fiber orientation by pouring concrete in slab elements. Double‐ended hooked steel fibers with an aspect ratio of 50 were used in varying percentages by volume. Fresh and hardened properties of SFRC were determined based on slump flow, V‐funnel, L‐box, J‐ring test, compression, and flexure tests. The effects of different pouring/casting locations (center and corner), fiber orientation, and fiber content (0, 0.5%, and 1.0%) on the crack pattern of the SFRC slab were observed. While casting, the concrete was allowed to flow through a 30° chute angle to enhance the flowability of concrete. The SFRC slabs without fiber reinforcement undergo brittle failure without forming any prior micro cracks. Slabs with fibers experience ductile failure and show significant post‐cracking strength. The concrete's pouring position only affects the failure crack's inclination for the given workability. In the case of the corner cast slab, the crack was propagated from one edge to the opposite edge of the slab in a straight line and split into two halves. This crack pattern suggested that the fiber distribution was concentrated in half of the slab part in which the pouring corner was located. Adding 0.5% and 1.0% fiber content increased the load‐carrying capacity of slabs by 1.31 and 2.15 times, respectively. In addition to fiber content, the pouring position of concrete also made a difference in the load‐carrying capacity of slabs. The concrete pouring in the slab from the center position with 0.5% and 1.0% fiber content has 17.2% and 40% more load‐carrying capacity compared to the concrete poured in the slab from the corner position with the same fiber content. This study aimed to pioneer a transformative approach in orthopedic implant design by developing and analyzing a groundbreaking carbon‐flax reinforced bioepoxy hybrid composite bone plate. The primary objectives of the present research were to enhance the bio‐mechanical performance of orthopedic implants and explore the potential applications of the novel material for orthopedic implants. Hybrid composite plate was fabricated mimicking the human bone with the soft inner core and a rigid outer coating. Mechanical properties for the hybrid composite were obtained through material characterization studies as per ASTM standards. The hybrid composite bone plates were tested as per bio‐mechanical test standard and the results were correlated with the finite element simulations. The maximum stress value in the experiments for the biomechanical four‐point bending tests was 331.74 MPa, and the corresponding strain value was 0.0337. The maximum equivalent stress and strain values obtained from simulation were in line with the findings of the experiments. The current research signifies a paradigm shift in orthopedic implant technology. Active vegetation fires in south‐eastern (SE) Europe resulted in a notable increase in the number concentration of aerosols and cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) particles at two high latitude locations—the SMEAR IV station in Kuopio, Finland, and the Zeppelin Observatory in Svalbard, high Arctic. During the fire episode aerosol hygroscopicity κ slightly increased at SMEAR IV and at the Zeppelin Observatory κ decreased. Despite increased κ in high CCN conditions at SMEAR IV, the aerosol activation diameter increased due to the decreased supersaturation with an increase in aerosol loading. In addition, at SMEAR IV during the fire episode, in situ measured cloud droplet number concentration (CDNC) increased by a factor of ∼7 as compared to non‐fire periods which was in good agreement with the satellite observations (MODIS, Terra). Results from this study show the importance of SE European fires for cloud properties and radiative forcing in high latitudes. Aerosols from fires are transported long distances in the atmosphere and affect the aerosol and cloud properties at places far from the actual sources. In this study, we measured the long‐range transported (LRT) fire air masses from south‐eastern (SE) Europe at a northern European and a high Arctic site. LRT fire emissions from SE Europe increase the aerosol number and mass loading in Finland and even in the high Arctic. Results show that the effect of fire emissions on aerosol hygroscopicity depends on the properties of both the LRT fires and the background aerosols at a given location. The cloud properties analysis in eastern Finland shows that despite high hygroscopicity and increased CCN activity, the aerosol activation diameter for clouds increased during the fire episode. This is due to the depletion of available water vapor in clouds due to the increased aerosol loading. Satellite observations show an increase in cloud droplet number concentration during the fire episode confirming the effect of LRT fires on cloud properties in eastern Finland. A growing body of research has attended to the experiences of transgender and gender non‐conforming (TGN) youth's gender identity development. However, practical and ethical concerns have impeded our ability to understand the experiences of TGN youth. Thus, the aim of this study was to utilize one‐on‐one semi‐structured interviews to explore White American TGN adults' (N = 15) retrospective accounts of their gender identity development in childhood and adolescence. Findings demonstrate considerable heterogeneity in TGN adults' retrospective accounts of their gender identity development. However, TGN adults consistently highlighted the role of social (e.g. friends, family and teachers) and contextual (e.g. online, offline, educational and geographical) factors in their gender identity journeys. This study provides new insight into the role of social and contextual factors in TGN adults' retrospective accounts of their gender identity development, demonstrating the importance of continuing to examine these factors in gender diversity research. Ten mixed‐ligand phenyl mercury(II) complexes containing 1‐methyl‐1H‐tetrazole‐5‐thiol (HmtzS) (1) and phosphine or amine ligands. These complexes fall into two groups: [PhHg(mtzS){Ph2P(CH2)PPh2}]2 (2) and [PhHg(mtzS){Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2}] (3‐6), where n varies, and [PhHg(mtzS)(diamine)] (8‐10), with diamine choices being 2,2′‐bipyridyl (Bipy, 8), 1,10‐phenathroline (Phen, 9), or ethylenediamine (en, 10). These complexes were synthesized with moderate to high yields and characterized using various techniques. Characterization data revealed that the mtzS− ligand coordinates as a monodentate ligand through the thiolate sulfur atom in all complexes, adopting a tetrahedral geometry around the Hg(II) center. Furthermore, complexes [PhHg(mtzS)] (1) and its diamine derivatives (8‐10) were assessed for hydrogen storage at 77 K using the VTI method. Results demonstrated that the incorporation of diamines improves hydrogen storage capacity at low pressure. The precursor stored (1) 2.3 wt.% at 80 bar, while the other complexes showed storage capacities ranging from 2.9 to 3.86 wt.% at pressures of 45‐60 bar. Thermodynamic properties of the [PhHg(mtzS)(Bipy)] complex was calculated at three different temperatures. The results prove that the entropy was equal to 0.50543599 J/mol H2. Beta gallium oxide (β‐Ga2O3) has emerged as a highly promising semiconductor material with an ultrawide bandgap ranging from 4.5 to 4.9 eV for future applications in power electronics, optoelectronics, as well as gas and ultraviolet (UV) radiation sensors. Here, surface adsorption and air damping behavior of doubly clamped β‐Ga2O3 nanomechanical resonators are probed and systemically studied by measuring the resonance characteristics under different gas and pressure conditions. High responsivities of resonance to pressure are obtained by heating the devices up to 300 °C to induce an accelerated adsorption–desorption process. The initial surface conditions of the β‐Ga2O3 thin film play important roles in affecting the resonant behavior. UV ozone treatment proves effective in altering the initial surface conditions of β‐Ga2O3 nanosheets by eliminating physisorbed contaminants and filling oxygen vacancy defects residing on the surface, resulting in a consequential and discernible modification of the resonance behavior of β‐Ga2O3 nanomechanical resonators. The surface adsorption and desorption processes in β‐Ga2O3 demonstrate clear reversibility by exposing the UV treated β‐Ga2O3 to air. This study attains first‐hand information on how the surface conditions of β‐Ga2O3 affect its mechanical properties, and helps guide future development of transducers via β‐Ga2O3 nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) for pressure sensing applications, especially in harsh environments. MicroRNAs (miRNA) are small and conserved noncoding RNA molecules that regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. These groups of RNAs are crucial in various cellular processes, especially in mediating disease pathogenesis, particularly cancer. The dysregulation of miRNAs was reported in many cancer types, including nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC), which is a malignant tumor of the nasopharynx. In this review, miRNAs involvement in crucial signaling pathways associated with NPC such as PTEN/PI3K/AKT, TGFβ/SMAD, RAS/MAPK, Wnt/β‐catenin and pRB‐E2F was investigated. miRNAs could function as tumor suppressor‐miR or onco‐miR in NPC profoundly influenced cell cycle, apoptosis, proliferation, migration, and metastasis. This comprehensive review of current literature provided a thorough profile of miRNAs and their interplay with the aforementioned signaling pathways in NPC. Understanding these molecular interactions could remarkably impact the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic strategies for NPC. The efficient inclusion of GNPs (graphene nanoplatelets) as an effective nano‐fillers for green polymer matrices produced with 28% of carbon originating from biomass tends to significantly improve mechanical and thermal properties. In the present work, green epoxy nanocomposites with low loading of (0.1, 0.25, and 0.5) wt% of the GNPs were made using a solution blending technique using acetone as the solvent. In mechanical stirring, the ultrasonic bath was used to ensure the efficient dispersion of GNPs within green epoxy. The resulting nanocomposites were comprehensively characterized and compared to unfilled green epoxy. Different tools were used to appraise morphological, thermal, thermo‐mechanical, and mechanical behavior. The results confirmed through FE‐SEM showed an optimal dispersion of GNPs with nanocomposites. The thermal degradation temperature (Td) of GNPs curve with 0.25 wt% loading was shifted toward higher temperature (from 336°C to 342°C) due to low percentage of loading of GNPs which showed an enhance thermal stability of polymer matrix with 0.25 wt% loading. The mechanical results were also in lined with previously published literature, in the tensile test 6.45% and hardness 13.3% increment was achieved. Overall, the results underscored significant improvements in green nanocomposite performance with low wt% of GNPs. The purpose of this study is to develop a systematic meso‐level theoretical modeling approach for analyzing the mode‐I fracture failure behaviors of concrete. Firstly, the eXtended Universal Morphological Model (XUMM) is briefly reviewed. Secondly, a normalized analysis method for the evaluation of effects of properties and scales of meso structures on the performance of concrete is proposed based on the XUMM. Afterwards, parametric studies regarding the aggregate strength effect, the aggregate volume effect, the maximum aggregate size (MAS) effect, the tortuosity of mesoscopic crack, the roughness of fracture surface and the characteristic length are conducted. Objective: To determine the diagnostic test accuracy of transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) using a standardized technique for the diagnosis of deep endometriosis (DE) of the uterosacral ligaments (USLs) and adjacent torus uterinus (TU). Methods: This was a prospective diagnostic test accuracy study conducted at the McMaster University Medical Center Tertiary Endometriosis Clinic, Hamilton, ON, Canada. Consecutive participants were enrolled if they successfully underwent TVS and surgery by our team from 10 August 2020 to 31 October 2021. The index test was TVS using a standardized posterior approach performed and interpreted by an expert sonologist. The reference standard included direct surgical visualization on laparoscopy by the same person who performed and interpreted the ultrasound scans. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV) and positive and negative likelihood ratios were calculated for the TVS posterior approach for each location using the reference standard. Results: There were 54 consecutive participants included upon completion of laparoscopy and histological assessment. The prevalence of DE for the left USL, right USL and TU was 42.6%, 22.2% and 14.8%, respectively. Based on surgical visualization as the reference standard, TVS demonstrated an accuracy of 92.6% (95% CI, 82.1–97.9%), sensitivity of 82.6% (95% CI, 61.2–95.1%), specificity of 100% (95% CI, 88.8–100%), PPV of 100% and NPV of 88.6% (95% CI, 76.1–95.0%) for diagnosing DE in the left USL. For DE of the right USL, TVS demonstrated an accuracy of 94.4% (95% CI, 84.6–98.8%), sensitivity of 75.0% (95% CI, 42.8–94.5%), specificity of 100% (95% CI, 91.6–100%), PPV of 100% and NPV of 93.3% (95% CI, 84.0–97.4%). For DE of the TU, TVS demonstrated an accuracy of 100% (95% CI, 93.4–100%), sensitivity of 100% (95% CI, 63.1–100%), specificity of 100% (95% CI, 92.3–100%), PPV of 100% and NPV of 100%. Conclusions: We observed high diagnostic test accuracy of the evaluated standardized TVS technique for assessing DE of the USLs and TU. The authors emphasize the need for standardization and external quality assurance (EQA) of laboratory protocols and results interpretation. A task force was created to develop a consensus protocol for BAT-EQA, and round robin tests were conducted to train participating laboratories. Background: Racial and socioeconomic disparities in receipt of care for non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are well described. However, no previous studies have evaluated the association between mortgage denial rates and receipt of timely and guideline‐concordant care for NSCLC and patient outcomes. Methods: We identified individuals ≥18 years diagnosed with NSCLC between 2014 and 2019 from the National Cancer Database. Using the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act database, we calculated the proportion of denied home loans to total loans at the zip‐code level and categorized them into quintiles. Our outcomes included receipt of guideline‐concordant care based on clinical and pathologic stage at diagnosis and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines, time from surgery to chemotherapy initiation, and overall survival. Results: Of the 629,288 individuals diagnosed with NSCLC (median age 69; IQR 61–76 years, 49.1% female), 47.8% did not receive guideline‐concordant care. Residing in areas with higher mortgage denial rates and lower income was associated with worse guideline‐concordant care overall (aRR = 1.28; 95% CI = 1.25–1.32) and for each cancer treatment modality, worse receipt of timely chemotherapy (aHR = 1.14; 95% CI = 1.11–1.17) and worse overall survival (aHR = 1.21; 95% CI = 1.19–1.22), compared with residing in areas with the lowest mortgage denial rate and highest income. Conclusions: Area‐level mortgage denial rate was associated with worse receipt of timely and guideline‐concordant NSCLC care and survival. This highlights the critical need to understand and address systemic practices, such as mortgage denial, that limit access to resources and are associated with worse access to quality cancer care and outcomes. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the single‐bolt single‐shear (SBSS) and double‐bolt single‐shear (DBSS) lap joint performance of resin‐infused thermoplastic 3D fiber‐reinforced composite (FRC) in on‐axis (0° and 90°) and off‐axis (45°) configurations. The bearing performance and failure mechanisms are compared with thermoset 3D‐FRC. The resin‐infused thermoplastic 3D‐FRC bolted joint shows improved bearing performance in terms of higher ultimate bearing strength, stiffness loss strength, and reduced damage severity than its thermoset counterpart. Additionally, this paper presents a detailed study on the intermediate and final failure mechanisms, obtained from scanning electron microscopy of the interrupted and ultimate bearing tests, to understand damage progression in SBSS and BDSS lap joints at the submicron level. The major damage characteristics of a thermoplastic 3D‐FRC bolted joint include plastic deformation and plastic kinking at the hole front tip, which improve the bearing capacity and reduce stress concentration, damage severity, and its deleterious effects. Infrequent, large‐magnitude discharge (>106 m3/s) outburst floods—megafloods—can play a major role in landscape evolution. Prehistoric glacial lake outburst megafloods transported and deposited large boulders (≥4 m), yet few studies consider their potential lasting impact on river processes and form. We use a numerical model, constrained by observed boulder size distributions, to investigate the fluvial response to boulder deposition by megaflooding in the Yarlung‐Siang River, eastern Himalaya. Results show that boulder deposition changes local channel steepness (ksn) up to ∼180% compared to simulations without boulder bars, introducing >100 meter‐scale knickpoints to the channel that can be sustained for >20 kyr. Simulations demonstrate that deposition of boulders in a single megaflood can have a greater influence on ksn than another common source of fluvial boulders: incision‐rate‐dependent delivery of boulders from hillslopes. Through widespread boulder deposition, megafloods leave a lasting legacy of channel disequilibrium that compounds over multiple floods and persists for millennia. Because these boulders are so big, they remain in the channel until the next megaflood or until they weather into smaller pieces. We find that megaflood boulders can protect the river from being eroded, causing other processes, like tectonic uplift, to outcompete erosion. Megaflood boulders cause small steps to form within the river. Our modeling shows that these effects can be felt for >20,000 yrs after a single flood. We suggest that megaflood deposition (in addition to erosion) can cause a significant, unique change in mountain river processes. In solid organ transplantation, formation of de novo donor‐specific HLA antibodies is induced by mismatched eplets on donor HLA molecules. While several studies have shown a strong correlation between the number of eplet mismatches and inferior outcomes, not every eplet mismatch is immunogenic. Eplets are theoretically defined entities, necessitating formal proof that they can be recognised and bound by antibodies. This antibody verification is pivotal to ensure that clinically relevant eplets are considered in studies on molecular matching. Recombinant human HLA‐specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were generated from HLA‐reactive B cell clones isolated from HLA immunised individuals using recombinant HLA molecules. Subsequently, the reactivity patterns of the mAbs obtained from single antigen bead assay were analysed using HLA‐EMMA software to identify single or configurations of solvent accessible amino acids uniquely present on the reactive HLA alleles and were mapped to eplets. Two HLA class I and seven HLA class II‐specific human mAbs were generated from four individuals. Extensive mAb reactivity analysis, led to antibody verification of three HLA‐DR‐specific eplets, and conversion of five eplets (one HLA‐A, one HLA‐B, two HLA‐DR, and one HLA‐DP), from provisionally verified to truly antibody‐verified. Finally, one HLA‐DQ‐specific eplet was upgraded from level A2 to level A1 verification evidence. The generation of recombinant human HLA‐specific mAbs with different specificities contributes significantly to the antibody verification of eplets and therefore is instrumental for implementation of eplet matching in the clinical setting. Aluminum‐air batteries (AABs) are regarded as attractive candidates for usage as an electric vehicle power source due to their high theoretical energy density (8100 Wh kg−1), which is considerably higher than that of lithium‐ion batteries. However, AABs have several issues with commercial applications. In this review, we outline the difficulties and most recent developments in AABs technology, including electrolytes and aluminum anodes, as well as their mechanistic understanding. First, the impact of the Al anode and alloying on battery performance is discussed. Then we focus on the impact of electrolytes on battery performances. The possibility of enhancing electrochemical performances by adding inhibitors to electrolytes is also investigated. Additionally, the use of aqueous and non‐aqueous electrolytes in AABs is also discussed. Finally, the challenges and potential future research areas for the advancement of AABs are suggested. Aluminum air batteries (AABs) are a desirable option for portable electronic devices and electric vehicles (EVs) due to their high theoretical energy density (8100 Wh K−1), low cost, and high safety compared to state‐of‐the‐art lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). However, numerous unresolved technological and scientific issues are preventing AABs from expanding further. One of the key issues is the catalytic reaction kinetics of the air cathode as the fuel (oxygen) for AAB is reduced there. Additionally, the performance and price of an AAB are directly influenced by an air electrode integrated with an oxygen electrocatalyst, which is thought to be the most crucial element. In this study, we covered the oxygen chemistry of the air cathode as well as a brief discussion of the mechanistic insights of active catalysts and how they catalyze and enhance oxygen chemistry reactions. There is also extensive discussion of research into electrocatalytic materials that outperform Pt/C such as nonprecious metal catalysts, metal oxide, perovskites, metal‐organic framework, carbonaceous materials, and their composites. To combat with energy crisis considering clean energy, oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial to implement electrolytic hydrogen fuel production in real life. Here, straightforward chemical synthesis pathways are followed to prepare cobalt tetraoxide nanoparticles (Co3O4NPs) in an alkaline OER process using poly[(2‐methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Co3O4NPs@PMTC) as support to prevent aggregation. In material characterization, the X‐ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirms the crystallinity of the synthesized Co3O4NPs@PMTC, and Raman spectroscopy indicates that the Co3O4NPs contain cubic close‐packed oxides. The morphological analysis reveals the wrinkle‐like disruption which is distributed evenly owing to the folded nanosheet arrays. Energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy indicates the presence of a significant number of cobalt atoms in the Co3O4NPs, and elemental mapping analysis demonstrates the composition of the NPs. At a current density of 10 mA cm−2, oxygen is emitted at 1.67 V delivering an overpotential of 440 mV. This unique structure of Co3O4NPs@PMTC provides beneficial functions that are responsible for a large number of active sites and the rapid release of oxygen gas with long‐term stability. Through kinetic study, we found a Tafel slope of 48.9 mV dec−1 which proves the catalytic behavior of Co3O4NPs@PMTC is promising toward the OER process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reinforced concrete flat slab projects usually require openings close to the columns for electrical and hydraulic installations. Since such openings reduce the punching shear of slabs, a comprehensive study is needed. In this paper, numerical models of slabs tested in literature were elaborated upon, using the commercial software in finite elements DIANA. The physical nonlinearity of the materials was considered. After the calibration and validation of the numerical parameters related to concrete and reinforcement, 62 numerical models were created for performing a parametric analysis. The numerical analysis aimed to study the effect of openings close to the columns and verify the punching resistance reduction. In this parametric study, the main variables were the compressive strength of the concrete, the bending reinforcement ratio, the number of openings, and the distance from the openings to the column's face. Finally, the numerical results obtained were compared with the punching strength values provided by the main structural design codes, viz., NBR 6118 (2014), Eurocode 2 (2004), ACI 318 (2019), fib Model Code (2010), and the next generation of Eurocode 2, which are constantly questioned in academic papers regarding their safety. We examined associations between non‐exercise testing cardiorespiratory fitness (NETCRF; estimated using sex, age, body mass index, resting heart rate, and physical activity) at 45 years and cognitive function outcomes (immediate and delayed verbal memory; verbal fluency; visual processing speed) at 50 years in 8130 participants from the 1958 British birth cohort. In unadjusted models, higher NETCRF was associated with better cognitive function across all outcomes. When adjusted for confounding factors, associations disappeared. Objective: This study examined the relative associations of mothers'/fathers' and offspring's internalizing and externalizing problems with parent‐to‐offspring and offspring‐to‐parent warmth and negativity. Background: Psychological conditions of family members may be related to intrafamilial social interactions. Particularly, internalizing and externalizing problems may affect the quality of parent–offspring communication. Method: In this study, fathers (N = 94), mothers (N = 125) and their offspring (N = 224, age rangeoffspring = 7.5–65.5 years) from 137 nuclear families participated in a behavioral conflict interaction task during which expressed warmth and negativity were observed. Associations between parents' and offspring's psychological problems (of the past 6 months) and parent‐to‐offspring and offspring‐to‐parent communication were tested simultaneously using structural equation models separated for fathers and mothers. Based on prior findings in the study sample, our analyses were controlled for history of childhood abuse. Results: Offspring's internalizing problems were related to less negativity toward their father, whereas offspring's externalizing problems were related to more negativity toward their father and to receiving less warmth from their mother. Father's externalizing problems were linked to more negativity toward offspring. No associations were found between maternal and paternal internalizing problems and dyadic parent–offspring interactions, nor for maternal externalizing problems. Conclusion: Findings support that psychological conditions of one family member have an impact on their social interactions within the family. This study analyzes the long‐term observed changes of mean (Tmean), maximum (Tmax) and minimum (Tmin) air temperatures, relative humidity (RH) and vapour pressure deficit (VPD) at different elevation ranges across Bolivia from 1950 to 2019. The linear trends in air temperature series present a significant increase, with no substantial seasonal or spatial differences. On an annual basis, RH exhibited a non‐significant decrease (−0.08% decade−1), while VPD showed a significant increase (0.01 hPa decade−1) (p < 0.05). Although prior research has suggested that highland elevations experience faster warming than the global average, we have not identified a distinct correlation between elevation gradients and differential warming rates in Bolivia. Future research could investigate elevation‐dependent climate trends by examining seasonal and monthly patterns of climatic variables in relation to topographical gradients in various highland regions. NADPH oxidase (Nox), a major source of reactive oxygen species (ROS), is involved in neurodegeneration after injury and disease. Nox is expressed in both neuronal and non‐neuronal cells and contributes to an elevated ROS level after injury. Contrary to the well‐known damaging effect of Nox‐derived ROS in neurodegeneration, recently a physiological role of Nox in nervous system development including neurogenesis, neuronal polarity, and axonal growth has been revealed. Here, we tested a role for neuronal Nox in neurite regeneration following mechanical transection in cultured Aplysia bag cell neurons. Using a novel hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)‐sensing dye, 5′‐(p‐borophenyl)‐2′‐pyridylthiazole pinacol ester (BPPT), we found that H2O2 levels are elevated in regenerating growth cones following injury. Redistribution of Nox2 and p40phox in the growth cone central domain suggests Nox2 activation after injury. Inhibiting Nox with the pan‐Nox inhibitor celastrol reduced neurite regeneration rate. Pharmacological inhibition of Nox is correlated with reduced activation of Src2 tyrosine kinase and F‐actin content in the growth cone. Taken together, these findings suggest that Nox‐derived ROS regulate neurite regeneration following injury through Src2‐mediated regulation of actin organization in Aplysia growth cones. Background: Group schema therapy (GST) is increasingly popular as a treatment for personality disorders (PDs), including Cluster‐C PDs. Individual ST has proven to be effective for Cluster‐C PD patients, while the evidence for GST is limited. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of GST for Cluster‐C PD. Moreover, differences between the specific Cluster‐C PDs (avoidant PD, dependent PD and obsessive‐compulsive PD) were explored. Methods: A multicentre open trial was conducted, including 137 patients with a Cluster‐C PD (avoidant PD: n = 107, dependent PD: n = 11 and obsessive‐compulsive PD: n = 19). Patients received 30 weekly GST sessions with a maximum of 180 min of individual ST and five optional monthly booster sessions. Outcome measures including Cluster‐C PD severity, general psychopathological symptoms, quality of life, functional impairment, happiness, PD‐related beliefs, self‐esteem, self‐ideal discrepancy, schemas and schema modes were assessed at baseline until 2‐year follow‐up with semi‐structured interviews and self‐report measures. Change over time and differences between the specific Cluster‐C PDs were analysed with mixed regression analyses. Results: The outcome measures showed significant improvements for all Cluster‐C PDs, with medium to large effect sizes after 2 years. A treatment dropout rate of 11.7% was found. There were some indications for differences between the Cluster‐C PDs in severity at baseline, change trajectories and effectiveness of GST. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that GST is a promising treatment for Cluster‐C PDs. The following step is a randomized controlled trial to further document the (cost‐)effectiveness of GST. The Southern Ocean seasonal sea ice zone (SIZ) spring is characterized by sea ice retreat and the development of phytoplankton blooms. Until recently, assessing SIZ blooms and associated net community production (bNCP) has been limited by a lack of under‐ice observations. We relate the timing of phytoplankton growth to the drawdown of surface nitrate and sea ice cover and estimate bNCP from biogeochemical profiling float observations. The onset of biological production closely follows initial sea ice breakup and, on average, 64% of bNCP occurs before total sea ice retreat. This indicates that satellite‐derived estimates largely miss under‐ice production and underestimate SIZ bNCP. Float bNCP estimates range from <1 to >4 mol C m−2 bloom−1, with higher bNCP when sea ice breakup occurs early in the year, and the highest bNCP near topographic features that may increase micronutrient supply. Our results suggest changes in Southern Ocean sea ice will influence future bNCP. Massive phytoplankton blooms are observed in recently ice‐free waters, but observations of these blooms under‐ice have previously been limited due to sampling challenges including rough winter seas and sea ice cover. In this study we use year‐round data from profiling floats that measure temperature, salinity, oxygen, nitrate, chlorophyll fluorescence, and particulate backscatter. We determine that phytoplankton growth begins after sea ice first begins to break up. The majority of organic matter that is produced but not consumed during the bloom is generated before total sea ice retreat. This indicates that commonly used satellite observations, which are blocked by sea ice, miss most of the bloom period. We also found the greatest net organic matter production when sea ice breakup occurred early in the season or near oceanic ridges and islands. We suggest phytoplankton growth limitation by micronutrients and consumption by grazers may contribute to the seasonal changes in organic matter production identified in this study. These results suggest that changes in sea ice timing and extent due to climate change will likely impact Southern Ocean biological production. Combined in situ ion measurements and remote sensing of energetic neutral atoms are used to determine the geocoronal Hydrogen density at large (∼10 RE) distances from the Earth. This method for determining the geocoronal density requires global magnetospheric modeling. Observations in the Earth's subsolar magnetosheath from the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission are used to determine the accuracy of using global models to predict the geocoronal density. On average, gas dynamic and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) models and observations are in reasonable agreement, with differences <25%. In addition, the MHD model subsolar magnetopause is about 0.5 RE sunward of the observed location. However, variations around averages are large (up to a factor of 2), indicating that global models introduce relatively large uncertainties in geocoronal density estimates. Finally, the critical ion flux in the Interstellar Boundary Explorer IBEX‐Hi energy range is often minimally affected by fluctuations of a factor of 2 in the density. π‐Allyl complexes of transition metals are key species in organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis. Palladium(II) π‐allyl complexes in particular, have gained a lot of attention, but their isoelectronic gold(III) counterparts long remained elusive. However, this situation changed during the last few years. This concept article describes the preparative routes, characterization, structure and reactivity of such species, together with their catalytic applications. The influence of the ancillary ligand at gold, either (P,C)/(N,C)‐cyclometalated or (P,N)‐hemilabile, is analysed in detail. Numerous paleomagnetic studies attribute the magnetization preserved within Apollo samples to an ancient dynamo. However, other works propose that lunar rocks were instead magnetized by either transient impact‐related magnetic fields on the Moon or by the return spacecraft. To test whether lunar samples could have been magnetized during return to Earth, sample handling, or transport, we exposed lunar rocks to 5–10 mT fields for varying durations. We then determined how easily these magnetic overprints could be removed and how paleointensity estimates are affected by the overprints and their removal. We found that magnetic overprints were cleaned by alternating field (AF) demagnetization to ∼10–30 mT for nearly all samples and that acceptable paleointensities may be obtained from higher AF levels. Therefore, high coercivity (>30 mT) magnetizations observed within lunar rocks are generally not magnetic contamination and were initially acquired on the Moon. However, exposure to strong magnetic fields such as those produced by spacecraft electronics or magnets can partially remagnetize rocks. Therefore, it is important to rule out magnetic contamination in samples prior to making inferences about the histories of natural magnetic fields generated by planets or by meteorite impacts. We conducted a series of experiments wherein we intentionally exposed various rocks from the Moon to strong magnetic fields to (a) see how easily magnetic contamination could be removed and (b) understand how the contamination and secondary effects related to its removal could skew our interpretation of ancient lunar magnetic field intensities. We found that, in nearly all cases, techniques commonly used by rock magnetism specialists were able to successfully remove magnetic contamination without sacrificing accuracy in determining the intensity of ancient lunar magnetic fields from magnetically uncontaminated portions of rocks. Therefore, we conclude that much of the magnetization observed in lunar rocks is natural in origin and was acquired on the Moon. The Solar Occultation for Ice Experiment (SOFIE) has operated aboard the Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) satellite since 2007. SOFIE uses solar occultation to retrieve ozone (O3) profiles from ∼20 to 100 km altitude, typically at polar latitudes. This study validates SOFIE O3 profiles, including error analysis and comparisons with independent observations. Comparisons are made to the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment Fourier Transform Spectrometer (ACE‐FTS) and the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) satellite instruments. SOFIE shows qualitative and quantitative agreement with both data sets between 30 and 70 km and better overall agreement in the northern hemisphere. SOFIE and ACE mean differences are typically within 20% in the 30–70 km altitude range. SOFIE and MIPAS exhibit mean difference values within 30% in the winter and 20% for all other seasons averaged, between ∼30 and 60 km. Seasonal comparisons indicate similar variations in both hemispheres and through all seasons. The comparisons indicate that SOFIE is biased 5%–10% low at 30–70 km altitudes, with greater differences at higher and lower altitudes. The comparisons are challenging due to the low O3 concentrations at high altitudes, the limited number of coincidences, and the large diurnal variation in mesospheric O3 during twilight hours. In this study, we introduce a new growing neural network algorithm that is based on wavelet neural networks and call our algorithm a growing wavelet neural network (GWNN) method. We apply our proposed scheme to train a wavelet neural network to solve chemotaxis problems with blow‐up. These problems are highly nonlinear time‐dependent systems of partial differential equations, and it is a challenge to get the pattern of the solution accurately. The proposed structure is partial retraining of the network, which increases its capacity to catch the spiky pattern of the solution. Our neural network‐based algorithm allows us to solve the nonlinear chemotaxis problems without the use of linearization techniques and regularization techniques, most of which reduce the accuracy of the model. This mesh‐free‐based method can manage a variety of blow‐up models with curved boundaries without imposing an extra cost. By proving the consistency and stability of the method, we show the convergence of GWNN solutions to analytical solutions of the chemotaxis problem. Several illustrative examples and simulation results are provided to demonstrate the correctness of the results and the robust performance of the presented algorithm.
