Inclusive education is crucial for integrating children with special needs into mainstream educational settings. This pilot study explores the attitudes of teachers in India toward providing inclusive education to children with disabilities, and the challenges they face. As the Indian education system continues to evolve, there are significant gaps in teacher preparedness and the availability of resources, especially given the socio‐cultural and economic diversity of the country. The study aims to assess the perspectives of 30 primary and secondary school teachers regarding their experiences with inclusive education, focusing on their attitudes, challenges, and the resources available for supporting students with special needs. A mixed‐methods approach was employed, utilising surveys and interviews to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. The results indicate that while many teachers hold a positive attitude toward inclusive education, they face numerous challenges in its implementation, including a lack of specialised training, insufficient support services and inadequate teaching materials. Teachers expressed particular difficulty in supporting students with severe disabilities due to the lack of behavioural and psychological services in schools. This study emphasises the importance of continued teacher training and infrastructure improvements to foster effective inclusive education. It also highlights the need for policy changes, such as the integration of the Samagra Shiksha scheme and recognition of the 2016 Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, to support teachers in overcoming the barriers they face. Despite extensive research on antecedents and consequences of counterproductive work behavior (CWB), factors contributing to it in educational settings and teachers have not been adequately addressed. With participants of secondary school teachers working in public schools (270), private schools (302), and other educational institutions (319) in Iran, this study explored factors associated with CWB at the individual (age, gender, and perceived justice), occupational (interpersonal conflicts and working hours), and organizational (job content, class size, and teaching context) levels. Significant relationships, with small effect sizes, were found between CWB and younger male teachers with low perceived justice. The results also indicated a linear trend with occupational variables and CWB in the public sector. An escalation in CWB engagement was observed with an increase in working hours and class size. There was a strong positive correlation between psychological demands and CWB, and negative associations were found for social support and decision latitude with significant differences in teacher categories. Hierarchal regression analysis confirmed the significant contributions of these variables to the variances in CWB. The implications have been discussed in light of study results by recommending policies and strategies to be used by school psychologists, administrators, and teacher educators to curtail dysfunctional behaviors and ultimately create school environments that promote teachers' job commitment and the delivery of high‐quality education. Concussions from sport and recreational activities can negatively impact academic performance in adolescents. This study aims to use reflexive thematic analysis to understand the knowledge, management, and education of concussion among Irish postprimary educators. A cross‐sectional study that involved semistructured interviews with 18 secondary school teachers was conducted. Interviews were recorded and transcribed in preparation for a reflexive thematic analysis process according to research conducted by Braun and Clarke. A total of 664 data items were coded which led to the development of 5 themes (i.e., teacher's background experience, consequences of concussion, concussion in school, educating educators, and existing standards) and 22 subthemes. The implementation of concussion education initiatives for improving student safety, injury management, and recovery through mandatory teacher‐continued professional development should be explored. Teachers' knowledge of concussion is influenced by personal experiences, with safer attitudes observed in those who have witnessed or experienced concussions. The role of the Year Head in concussion management should be explored with a focus on communication pathways and dissemination of materials. Protocols for medical emergencies and academic adjustments for concussed students should be made readily available to secondary school teachers. There is a gap in the research on the relationship between secondary school subject departments, particularly where, as in the case of science and religious education (RE), there is not the traditional relationship that may be seen in science and maths or across humanities subjects. More awareness of content taught in other departments is important for pupils' coherent experience of curriculum and schooling. This article reports on data from 10 focus groups with 50 participants from six universities, where student teachers of science and RE revealed a complex picture of relationships between the two departments in their placement schools. Furthermore, this article reports findings from a survey where 244 teachers and student teachers of science and RE shared their perspectives on the relationship between the two school departments. The measure was adapted from Barbour's typology, a classification describing the nature of the relationship between science and religion in a range of literature. The terms 'conflict', 'independence', 'dialogue', 'collaboration' and 'integration' were presented to teachers of both subjects. Little evidence was found of conflict between science and RE departments, but more 'independence' than 'dialogue' between the two departments was reported. Professional identity is essential for a qualified teacher; however, the imbalance between job resources and demands is a serious impediment to promoting teachers' professional identity. Given that personal job resources (i.e., teachers' socioemotional competence and psychological capital) and challenging job demands (homeroom/non‐homeroom teachers) are distinctive—but understudied—job characteristics, this study examines their role in fostering teachers' professional identity, based on the Job Demands‐Resources (JD‐R) model. Data from 432 secondary school teachers in Henan Province, China were collected using the Chinese versions of the Teacher Socioemotional Competence Scale, Psychological Capital Scale, and Teacher Professional Identity Scale. The results showed that teachers' socioemotional competence positively predicted their professional identity. The moderating mediator analysis showed that the mediating role of psychological capital and the moderating role of being a homeroom or non‐homeroom teacher contributed immensely to teachers' professional identity. The identification of this moderated mediation model broadens our understanding of the JD‐R model by demonstrating the interplay between personal job resources and challenging job demands. This study also emphasizes the imperative for optimizing the balance between "demands" and "resources" to enhance teachers' professional identity, and proposes effective interventions. Global concerns about low levels of teacher job satisfaction (JS) have brought the significance of understanding factors and mechanisms that contribute to this issue. In educational research, the role of emotional intelligence (EI), a critical personal resource, in relation to teachers' JS has emerged as an important topic. Utilizing the Job Demands‐Resources model, the present study proposed a chain mediation model to explore the relationship between teachers' EI and their JS. It specifically examined the roles of expression of naturally felt emotion (ENFE) and perceived teacher‐student closeness as mediators. Data from 503 Chinese primary and secondary school teachers revealed significant correlations among teachers' EI, ENFE, perceived teacher‐student closeness, and JS. Structural equation modeling indicated that EI can significantly predict JS through a sequential mediating effect involving ENFE and perceived teacher‐student closeness. The findings provide insight into the underlying mechanism between teachers' EI and JS. Implications for teacher education practices and directions for future research are discussed. Self‐efficacy beliefs have cyclical nature as they enhance performance and performance, in turn, influences subsequent self‐efficacy beliefs. Likewise, teacher self‐efficacy is proposed to shape teaching quality which, in turn, informs future teacher self‐efficacy beliefs. To examine these associations, longitudinal studies are needed but are still sparse. Therefore, the present research employed a three‐wave longitudinal design to examine the predictive effects of teacher self‐efficacy on teaching quality as well as the predictive effects of teaching quality on future teacher self‐efficacy by using data from large samples of secondary school teachers (N = 1030) and their students (N = 17,381). Teachers self‐reported their efficacy for student engagement, efficacy for instructional strategies and efficacy for classroom management whereas students rated the teaching quality (i.e., cognitive activation, classroom management, and student support) of their teachers. The results of the multilevel structural equation modelling showed that all three dimensions of teacher self‐efficacy predicted teaching quality but teaching quality, in turn, predicted only teacher efficacy for student engagement. These results suggest that efforts in raising teacher self‐efficacy may show fruitful in raising overall teaching effectiveness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Science teachers struggle to implement and sustain new curricular ideas from professional development (PD) experiences. These PD opportunities are crucial for enacting real‐world changes to teaching practice and address pressing global challenges, such as the teaching and learning of socioscientific topics nested in school communities. Additionally, it is important to consider how school situative conditions are an important aspect in how science teachers learn, develop, and enact curricular practices in their classrooms. This paper is part of a special issue on Teacher Learning and Practice within Organizational Contexts. The purpose of this conceptual paper is to illustrate how researchers can frame research using the theory of practice architectures (TPA) as a lens to develop a dynamic socio‐material understanding of teacher learning within teachers' working environments and their local school communities. An ongoing multi‐year professional learning study with science teachers in an elementary school and secondary school was analyzed using TPA. Using a philosophical‐empirical approach, observations from PD sessions and collaborative meetings illustrated teachers' practices in the form of sayings, doings, and relatings and their changes over the duration of the observations with associated modifications in schools' practice architectures. Although specific school conditions, such as timetable restrictions and curriculum accountability, constrained teachers' practices they were still enabled to learn and develop their practices. Overall, TPA was found to be an insightful framework for theorizing changes in science teaching practices of teachers' saying, doings, and relatings at their school sites. Future research focused on PD within schools would benefit from using a TPA approach to theorizing science teacher learning and curriculum enactment practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bullying remains a pervasive issue in educational settings worldwide. This study examined the effect of teacher training and self‐efficacy on teachers' responses to school bullying with the moderating effect of age. Drawing on data from 585 Taiwanese primary and secondary school teachers, the study revealed six distinct response patterns to bullying among Taiwanese teachers. The results underscore the critical role of self‐efficacy in enabling proactive responses to bullying, highlighting that training programs that boost teachers' self‐efficacy can be effective across different age groups. Furthermore, the research points to the necessity of differentiated training approaches that consider teachers' age to enhance responses of mediating involvers. This study contributes to the broader discourse on bullying prevention, emphasizing the importance of teacher training and the need for further research into the nuanced relationships between teacher characteristics, self‐efficacy, and intervention strategies in diverse cultural settings. In Iceland, and around the world, the working environment in upper secondary schools changed dramatically with the onset of the COVID‐19 pandemic. In our research, we aimed to illuminate the ever‐changing working conditions of teachers in Icelandic upper secondary schools during the first year of the pandemic, especially in the context of gender and family composition. Data came from interviews with 12 teachers and surveys administered to upper secondary school teachers in 33 out of 37 upper‐secondary schools in Iceland with participation from approximately one‐third of the teacher population. The results show that teachers felt increasingly stressed throughout the pandemic and that gender played a significant role. Women, who often also served as primary caregivers at home, found it more strenuous to fulfil their teaching duties than men. The results raise important questions about teachers' working conditions and gender's role therein, especially in a country considered an emblem of success when it comes to gender equality. After the challenges of the Covid‐19 pandemic, the NEU (2021) report states that one in three teachers plan to leave the profession in the next 5 years. As previous studies published by the DfE focusing on workload have not affected the wastage rate of the profession, there is something deeper at work which needs to be explored. A critical theory, mixed‐methods approach is used to gain a breadth and depth of understanding of the attitudes of 55 respondents to a survey and 17 participants in semi‐structured interviews. All data collection was carried out in secondary schools in Lincolnshire, where teacher pay is good in comparison with the county average of workforce pay. These methods aim to test the assumption that concerns about workload and pay are causing teachers' discontent. The findings reveal that teacher attitudes towards their working lives are complex owing to individuals trying to internalise the values of both traditional and new professionalisms. Owing to this, teachers can appear contradictory in their demands and tolerance of the demands of the profession and themselves. The characteristics of neoliberal management including transactional leadership, competition and ambivalence to processes in favour of outcomes, do not match traditional professional values of dedication, expertise and working for the greater good. Given the disruptions the COVID‐19 pandemic has engendered in people's professional lives, the importance and contribution of certain workforces has been under particular scrutiny. In England, the teaching profession has been under particularly close public scrutiny, with concerns that teachers' perceived social appreciation may have decreased throughout the pandemic. Thus, the current study examined the trajectory of teachers' perceptions of how much society, policymakers and the media had valued the teaching profession throughout this time. With an initial sample of 24 primary and secondary teachers in mainstream state schools in England, 54 online interviews took place at three time points: when school buildings were partially reopened for the first time (June 2020), when they were partially closed for the second time (February 2021) and when they were fully reopened for 16 months (July 2022). Three themes were identified in the data using a longitudinal trajectory analysis based on reflexive thematic analysis: 'initial admiration from local communities progressively waned', 'continuous government disrespect towards teachers' and 'initial media vitriol towards teachers was sustained'. Implications for how teachers and other stakeholders in education can most effectively work together for the benefit of the health and effectiveness of the teaching profession and the educational system are considered in the context of the associated risks when teachers have low levels of perceived social appreciation. While most research has focussed on the experiences and consequences of ethnic discrimination for students, little is known about how teachers respond to ethnic discrimination. Teachers' responses are important as they may affect the outcomes of ethnic discrimination for students. Additionally, many studies have shown that teachers find it difficult to respond or talk about these issues but we know very little about how they act or address these challenges. Using a qualitative sample of 48 teachers, 23 students and four headteachers, this study explores (1) how secondary school teachers respond to ethnic discrimination and (2) what might explain variability in their responses. We found that teachers vary in their responses to incidents of ethnic discrimination between students (or incidents in which the teacher was a third party) in comparison with accusations of ethnic discrimination (or incidents in which the teacher was a main protagonist). When teachers responded to incidents of ethnic discrimination, they generally treat it as a learning opportunity and expect students to be 'calm', 'open‐minded', 'reflective', 'respectful' and 'communicative'. However, when teachers become the centre of the debate and are accused of discriminatory behaviour, they do not apply these criteria but deny or downplay the allegations. Differences in teachers' responses were related to background characteristics (years of teaching experience, school context, ethnic background, subject of teaching), role perceptions, basic needs for teaching, perceptions of students and a fear of being perceived as a racist. Teachers' intrinsic motivation for teaching and students' intrinsic motivation for learning are important contributors to effective teaching and learning, and exploring their relationships and influencing mechanisms can clarify the path to promote teachers' professional development and students' overall growth. In our study, 44 secondary school teachers and 2461 secondary school students completed questionnaires, and a multilevel structural equation model was used to explore the influence of teachers' intrinsic motivation for teaching on students' intrinsic motivation for learning and the mediating role of teachers' motivating style and teacher‐student relationships. The results showed that (1) teachers' intrinsic motivation for teaching was significantly positively correlated with students' intrinsic motivation for learning, and the former had a significant direct effect on the latter; (2) teachers' autonomy‐supporting motivating style, positive teacher‐student relationships, and negative teacher‐student relationships played mediating roles between teachers' intrinsic motivation for teaching and students' intrinsic motivation for learning; and (3) teachers' motivating style and teacher‐student relationships played a chained mediating role between teachers' intrinsic motivation for teaching and students' intrinsic motivation for learning. Teacher burnout refers to teachers' inability to cope with work stress smoothly. Previous studies have revealed that job burnout is negatively related to professional identity; however, little is known about the mechanism underlying the relationship between teacher professional identity and job burnout. This study tested the mediating effects of work engagement and psychological capital in the relationship between professional identity and job burnout. A descriptive correlational design was employed. Measures included the Professional Identity Scale, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, Psychological Capital Questionnaire, and Professional Quality of Life Scale. A total of 3147 primary and secondary school teachers in China, of which 2220 were women (70.5%) and 927 were men (29.5%), with an average age of 39 years (SD = 8.74), completed the questionnaire survey. SPSS PROCESS macro (version 21) was used to explore the mediating roles of work engagement and psychological capital in the relationship between professional identity and job burnout. Professional identity, work engagement, and psychological capital significantly negatively affected job burnout. Work engagement and psychological capital, when occurring in parallel or sequentially, partially mediated the relationship between professional identity and job burnout. Job burnout among teachers with high professional identity can be eliminated by increasing work involvement and promoting exercise to improve their psychological capital. These findings provide implications for preventing burnout among teachers in the future. The mental health and wellbeing of young people is increasingly a concern in schools. This study explores how English secondary school teachers perceive and engage with the concept of wellbeing. By asking teachers to reflect on their practice, we can draw out their relational experience and knowledge about wellbeing in the classroom. Twenty teachers were interviewed about their practice in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and during the academic year 2020-21. Reflexive thematic analysis reveals the challenges experienced by teachers. Specifically, we find a perceived role conflict for teachers between giving care and purveying knowledge. We draw on recent policy research and the work of Nel Noddings to account for this conflict in terms of conceptualisations of teaching practice and purpose. We illustrate how an emphasis within schools on 'doing well' academically undermines and marginalises a more holistic sense of 'being well', which contributes to a set of strains on teachers personally, professionally and relationally in terms of their interactions with students and colleagues. We propose that 'doing well' arises out of 'being well', rather than the converse, and should hence be an educational policy priority. Doctors and teachers in their first year of practice face steep learning curves and increased stress, which can induce poor mental health, burnout and attrition. Informal workplace support from colleagues can help smooth transitions and aid professional development. A three-phase comparative research design was used to explore who provides informal workplace support to early-career professionals, types of support and influencing factors. Phase 1 was a systematic secondary analysis of interviews and audio diaries from 52 UK doctors in their first year of foundation training (F1s). Phase 2 involved new narrative interviews with 11 newly qualified teachers (NQTs) from English secondary schools. Phase 3 was a comparative analysis to produce a model of workplace support. Given barriers to accessing senior doctors, F1 doctors drew upon nurses, pharmacists, microbiologists, peers/near-peers and allied healthcare professionals for support. NQTs gained support from allocated mentors and seniors within subject departments, as well as teaching assistants, allied support staff and wider professional networks. Support types for both professions included information and advice on practice, orientation to local settings, collaborative development activities, observation and feedback, and socioemotional support. Influencing factors included variable departmental cultures, limited opportunities for informal contact, sometimes negative inter-group perceptions and the agentic responses of novices. The resulting workplace model of support could underpin future research and evaluations of support in similar 'hot-action' environments. In medicine and teaching, greater utilisation of near-peers and allied staff, improved role understanding and communication, increased informal contact and sharing successful strategies across professions could enhance supportive relationships. When we think about the issues currently confronted by those who work in schools, stress and burnout among teachers and other practitioners is recognized as a widespread concern due to the adverse effects on students, schools, and communities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of job stress on the experienced burnout of teachers, and to examine the variability in burnout attributable to a specific psychological resource, namely, an individual's work‐related sense of coherence (Work‐SoC). A descriptive, cross‐sectional analysis was conducted using data collected through an online survey from 231 primary and secondary school teachers in the United States. Results from correlational and regression analyses demonstrate that two forms of work stress—perceived quantity and perceived quality—are important predictors of burnout. Further, Work‐SoC contributes to variability in teacher burnout even after accounting for perceived work and life stress, suggesting its important role in buffering teachers from the experience of burnout. Implications for practitioners for reducing teacher stress and burnout are discussed. The pursuit of education for sustainable development (ESD) integration is imperative for appraising the implications and progress of the educational plan. Teachers are critical agents in delivering sustainable development content in formal education. Consequently, understanding the teachers' perspective is necessary for integration. This study analyses teachers' insights on integrating education for sustainable development. The teachers filled out a questionnaire concerning sustainable development, and data analysis revealed that teachers have positive awareness, poor attitudes and a detrimental state of behaviour towards sustainable development. The four focus group discussions were conducted to congregate teachers' perspicacity for sustainability education integration. The participant perceived reform in student‐teacher curricula, teacher's training programs, and embedding sustainability‐related subject content as an elementary enabler. They emphasised the vitality of administrative inputs and the government's role in successful integration. Teachers' job burnout is becoming increasingly common in China. Based on the Job Demands–Resources model and Social identity theory, this study aimed to assess the influence of professional identity on primary and secondary school teachers' job burnout, mediating effect of career satisfaction, and moderating role of the value of competence and growth in these relationships. The cross‐sectional design was conducted in this study with a total of 1362 teachers. The investigation materials included the Chinese versions of the teachers' professional identity scale, career satisfaction scale, value and experience scale, and professional quality of life scale. The results indicated that career satisfaction mediated the relationship between teachers' professional identity and job burnout. When the scores for competencies and growth were high, teachers' professional identity exhibited the greatest predictive effect on burnout through career satisfaction. These findings have implications for preventing burnout among teachers. This study explored the potency of CTCA in reducing math anxiety and promoting meaningful learning of mathematics among secondary school students. The study adopted a mixed‐method (explanatory sequential) design involving a quasi‐experimental design and individual in‐depth interviews. Participants were drawn from two schools, purposively selected within Lagos state educational district V. Three instruments: Set Theory Achievement Test, Math Anxiety Scale and Students' Perception about CTCA Interview Guide were used to collect the quantitative and qualitative data subsequently. The experimental group (102 students) was taught using the culturo‐techno‐contextual approach while the control group (106 students) was taught with the traditional lecture method. Treatment lasted six weeks after which posttest and retention test (four weeks after posttest) were conducted. MANCOVA was used to analyze the quantitative data. The results obtained suggest that CTCA reduces math anxiety and enhanced learning achievement [Pillai's Trace = 0.34 (F = 53.09; p<0.01)] more effectively than the traditional teaching method. No significant gender difference was also found in the achievement of the experimental group. Students' perception about the use of CTCA was generally positive. Within the scope and limitations of the study, it was recommended that CTCA should be adopted by secondary school teachers in teaching mathematics concepts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study takes a critical realist grounded theory approach to explore the intersection of pupil‐teacher relationships and school alienation using experiences of secondary school pupils and teachers. Qualitative data were collected through semi‐structured interviews with both pupils and teachers. Participants' perceptions and experiences were explored, both positive and negative, to develop an understanding of the perspectives of both actors in reciprocal relationships. The methodological framework for this grounded theory diverges from the popular constructivist design and is, instead, influenced by the classic approach. It is developed to be situated in a critical realist philosophy, emphasising the importance of the emancipatory goal of critical realism. Analysis of the data identified that alienated pupils frequently have difficult relationships with their teachers and discovered a subgroup of pupils who experienced more extreme forms of alienation. An implicit pupil‐teacher social contract is presented, describing the emergence of observable actions through the causative mechanism inherent to critical realism. The social contract rests upon the concepts of mutual respect and power. When a pupil believes the contract to have been breached, through the perceived violation of one of these concepts, pupil‐teacher relationships begin to deteriorate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prevalence of unfounded beliefs (e.g., supernatural or conspiracy beliefs) remains an important issue due to their negative consequences in various domains. Interventions were shown to reduce supernatural beliefs only when addressing pseudoscientific ones. Based on these findings, we designed a single session intervention aiming to teach participants the epistemological distinction between science and pseudoscience. We then assessed the effectiveness of this intervention. Secondary school teachers (N = 130) were assigned to one of two groups focusing on critical thinking with or without the intervention content related to pseudoscience. Supernatural beliefs, conspiracy mentality, and pattern perception were measured using computerized surveys pre‐ and one moth post‐intervention. Mixed‐model analyses revealed the expected decrease in conspiracy mentality, d =.60, supernatural beliefs, d = 1.01 and illusory pattern perception, d =.34 among teachers in the pseudoscience‐focused group. Differentiated instruction is a proactive teaching model and philosophy with demonstrated potential to cater for diverse learners and create inclusive classrooms. There is little research, however, into the implementation of this approach in the senior secondary classroom. Teachers' implementation of differentiated instruction has been shown to be linked to teacher attitudes and self‐efficacy in other settings. This study investigated the impact of teachers' self‐efficacy and attitudes towards the implementation of differentiated instruction in the senior secondary context across two Australian states with a total of five participating teachers. The A (Affective) B (Behaviour) C (Cognitive) model was employed to define teacher attitudes from interviews concerning differentiated instruction. Findings indicated that teacher knowledge was a major factor influencing differentiation, in addition to attitude and self‐efficacy. The discourse analysis demonstrated that teachers held a greater knowledge of differentiation strategies than the concepts that underpin the differentiated instruction framework. Additionally, time constraints and feelings of failure in implementing differentiation strategies impacted teacher attitudes. Teacher knowledge, attitude and self‐efficacy were interrelated and impacted on teachers' implementation of differentiated instruction in the senior secondary classroom. Experimento | 10+ is the Siemens Stiftung's teacher training program for STEM teachers at secondary schools. This program was recently converted into a blended learning format with alternating digital phases and face‐to‐face‐sessions. In the digital phases, contents about value education, inclusion and computational thinking are taught interactively. In the face‐to‐face‐phases, the teachers revive these contents and interrelate them to various practical experiments on the topics energy, environment and health. Teaching a language subject in school is often referred to as being different and unique compared to teaching a non‐language subject. However, the few existing studies examining this claim have mainly investigated the viewpoints of teachers who only teach one language, thus failing to achieve a comparison based on teachers' actual lived experiences of teaching two different subjects. The present study was designed to address this gap by exploring 11 upper secondary school teachers' perceptions of similarities and differences between teaching English and a non‐language subject. Austria and Norway were chosen as contexts for the study since both countries qualify state secondary school teachers to teach a minimum of two subjects simultaneously as part of their regular teaching load. The analysis of the semi‐structured interviews revealed that the teaching of various subjects shares some similarities but is highly influenced by contextual factors. The most striking finding was the perceived different status of subjects across contexts and the consequences of this for teachers and learners. The findings underline the importance of contextualizing data and understanding the ecology in which teaching and learning of any subject or any language takes place. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Teaching and caring for pupils during the COVID‐19 pandemic has been a challenge for many teachers, and its impact on teachers' mental health and well‐being (MHWB) should be of great national and international concern. Aim and participants: This study examines 24 primary and secondary school teachers' MHWB experiences across three time points (April, July, and November 2020) using longitudinal qualitative trajectory analysis. Method: We used a mixture of inductive and deductive coding, based on the Job Demands–Resources Model, to identify the job demands (aspects of the job that can be physically or psychologically costly) and job resources (aspects of the job that can buffer the effects of job demands and promote achievement and growth) teachers reported experiencing across the three time points. Results: Generally, teachers' MHWB seemed to have declined throughout the pandemic, especially for primary school leaders. Six job demands contributed negatively to teachers' MHWB (i.e., uncertainty, workload, negative perception of the profession, concern for others' well‐being, health struggles, and multiple roles) and three job resources contributed positively to their MHWB (i.e., social support, work autonomy, and coping strategies). Conclusions: Policymakers and practitioners can support teachers' MHWB by engaging in more collaborative communication and ensuring greater accessibility to sources of social support. This paper explores Indonesian secondary school teachers' conceptions of assessment in the context of assessment reform. Teachers working at different school level were interviewed both individually and in groups and their responses were analysed using the content analysis approach. Detailed examination of teachers' assessment propositions revealed that their perspectives about assessment embrace values, purposes, and understanding, and are marked by conceptions about the learner agency, accountability and improvement orientations. However, despite being considered important, the learner agency and accountability conceptions were often considered irrelevant. In addition, teachers reported tension with regard to their perceptions towards the reform and demonstrated a varied level of conceptual and practical understanding of the reform. This study aims to analyze knowledge and attitudes toward attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in university students (infant education, primary education, teaching, and psychology students) and teachers (elementary, primary and secondary school teachers, and university teachers). A total of 417 university students and 170 teachers took part in the study. All of the participants completed the Questionnaire for the Evaluation of Teachers' Knowledge of ADHD and a scale about specific attitudes toward ADHD. The results indicated differences in knowledge between the teachers and the university students but no differences in attitudes. Teachers had deeper knowledge about ADHD than the university students, with greater knowledge in the dimensions of Treatment and Symptoms/Diagnosis. Furthermore, the levels of knowledge predicted attitudes, reflecting the importance of more educational training programs (for students and professionals) providing information about ADHD. Social anxiety has been linked with adverse consequences for adolescents in education, including low self‐efficacy, poor academic attainment and difficulties with social functioning. However, studies have not considered the phenomenon from an educator's point of view. We set out to explore the perceptions of secondary school teachers concerning socially anxious adolescents and the implications of social anxiety for their learning and development. Seven secondary school teachers in the north west of England took part in semi‐structured interviews focused on their lived experiences of supporting socially anxious adolescents. The findings suggest that educators perceive social anxiety to have the potential to be persistent and debilitating, impeding learning and development. The findings also demonstrate that teachers are aware of social anxiety and supportive strategies, but face difficulties in disentangling different anxious behaviours and providing differentiation. Conclusions indicate that recurring professional development and teacher training surrounding anxieties and comorbid behaviour may alleviate negative consequences for learning and development. The main purpose of this study was to explore the mental health and subjective well‐being of staff working with adolescents with severe and profound multiple learning difficulties. The participants were 19 teachers and 25 teaching assistants working in an inner London, local authority, specialist day provision. A demographic questionnaire, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Connor‐Davidson Resilience Scale, the Positive Affect Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale were used as data collection tools. The inferential statistical tools used were t‐tests and correlational analyses. The study brought to light a high number of borderline and abnormal anxiety scores among all staff. The study also found a significant difference in the resilience scores of teachers and teaching assistants, with teaching assistants scoring higher on the resilience scale. The results, alongside findings from previous research, call for better mental health support for teachers and staff working in the field of special educational needs and disabilities. Since visual representations play a particularly important role in the teaching and learning of chemistry, the exploration described in this article focuses on them. This is an explorative study of the qualitatively different ways that visual representations can be unpacked by Swedish upper secondary school chemistry teachers dealing with intermolecular forces. Unpacking is characterized as the ways that visual representations get used to open up the possibility of having the critical aspects and features of an intended object of learning being brought into focal awareness, initially on their own and then simultaneously. The analysis, which combines a phenomenographic and a social semiotic approach, leads to the characterizations of five qualitatively different ways that visual representations may be unpacked. These outcome categories are presented in terms of a conceptual hierarchy, where two of these ways of unpacking are characterized as being teacher‐centered and the other three as student‐centered. This leads to a case being made that if teachers use student‐centered ways of unpacking visual representations, then their students will be more likely to gain greater access to critical aspects and features of the enacted object of learning. We argue that in terms of making theoretical and practical contributions to the phenomenographic perspective on learning, the results can be used as a tool for researchers wishing to explore how visual representations can be used effectively in science education and also provide a useful basis for discussion in teacher education and in teacher professional development programs. This paper reports a study on teaching and learning strategies during the COVID‐19 lockdown period (CLP) that were used by the secondary government school teachers and students in Eastern India. These teaching and learning strategies were analysed in relation to their engagement with an initiative called Integrated approach to Technology in Education (ITE). ITE engagement in the pre‐CLP involved using project‐based learning (PBL) with technology and continuous, practise‐based professional development for teachers focusing on integrating constructivist use of technology in their curriculum and pedagogy. A survey and interviews of teachers revealed that teachers with higher ITE engagement in the pre‐CLP were more likely to use PBL with technology during the CLP. Students' interviews indicated that this PBL involved deep research and technical skills that were also practised during the CLP using distance technologies. Thus, the study demonstrated adaptation of ITE innovation into a distance mode; the introduction of WebQuests during the CLP improved the likelihood of teachers engaging in project‐based teaching and PBL during the CLP. Policymakers, practitioners and researchers are recommended to adopt and continue to study the sustainability of ITE approach in new contexts such as the CLP. With the increasing student diversity, the establishment of inclusive classrooms has become a top concern of policy‐makers worldwide urging teachers to differentiate their instruction according to students' individual learning needs. As the implementation of differentiated instruction (DI) relies mainly on teachers, previous research has mostly focused on examining teachers' perspectives on their use of differentiation. In contrast, far less attention has been paid to explore students' perspectives about their experiences in inclusive classrooms. Therefore, this study aims at examining students' experiences of their teachers' actual DI practice. Moreover, this study sets the spotlight on Mexico, a country that has faced changes with a recent proposed educational model. Results from a mixed analysis of variance revealed that students do in fact perceive that their teachers implement DI practices. It appears that both primary and secondary school teachers implement more frequent variants of mastery learning as well as tutoring systems as a means to differentiate their instruction. Everyone, including teachers, is prone to randomness misconceptions. In this article, we investigate the perceptions of randomness held by New Zealand secondary school teachers. The responses to a question asked in an online, anonymous questionnaire sent to New Zealand teachers will be explored. One question asked participants to create a sequence of 20 heads and tails such that it mimics a truly random process. From this, the number of heads, the longest run, and the number of runs in each sequence will be considered. Further, the mean for each of these sequence characteristics will then be compared to the findings from a previous study with Spanish pre‐service teachers. Peace education aims to equip future citizens with the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills to acknowledge and respect all kinds of diversity and understanding with human dignity. This article is based on empirical research to examine the practices of peace‐related activities in secondary schools of Mizoram. Mixed method was employed in this study. The secondary school students and the teachers of Mizoram were the target populations of the study. The total sample of the study comprised of 200 students: 100 boys and 100 girls of class IX; 100 teachers from 20 government secondary schools of Mizoram were drawn through a simple random sampling technique. A self‐made questionnaire consisting of 23 items, semi‐structured interview, and Focus Group Discussion were used as the techniques of data collection. The study showed that peace education components embedded in the existing curriculum were being taught through cocurricular and extracurricular activities. This article concludes by suggesting that teachers need to consider and include the guiding principles of peace and should encourage students to develop their critical thinking, reasoning, awareness of societal problems and issues, broadening their outlook, and concentrating on studies and to be associated with cocurricular activities. This study examines teachers' evaluations of teaching resources produced by industry to support science and technology teaching. The aim is to contribute to an understanding of how teachers negotiate the usability of industrial school initiatives for compulsory school science and technology. These evaluations are conceptualized in terms of teacher agency and educational governance. The collected data consist of focus group interviews where Swedish lower secondary school teachers discuss the usability of industry‐produced teaching resources. A discourse analysis was conducted and five discourses discerned regarding teachers' practical evaluations of industry‐produced teaching resources: (1) the curriculum discourse, (2) the educational design discourse, (3) the practical discourse, (4) the correct science content discourse, and (5) the partiality and bias discourse. The teachers draw on the different discourses to different degrees, and the teacher agency achieved in specific situations will vary. Based on the results a tool aimed at strengthening teacher agency in the practical evaluations of teaching resources from the industry is proposed. The study also contributes to a critical discussion on the influence of industry on the local education policy arena and suggests directions for strengthening teacher agency in situations where teachers evaluate and make decisions about the use of industry‐produced teaching resources. Due to socio‐political issues in Dutch society, citizenship education (CE) became obligatory by law in the Netherlands in 2006. Schools were to decide on their local CE curriculum. This contribution intends to open up the black box of school‐based curriculum‐making efforts for CE. It reports on a four‐year study in four schools for secondary education. In each school, teachers designed (parts of) their CE curriculum with guidance during weekly coaching sessions. The central question is, what are the professional experiences and results of teachers who are involved in guided school‐based CE curriculum‐making? The qualitative data set comprised of interview and focus group data as well as artefacts such as CE‐activities designed by teachers. Findings show teachers' preference for broad and integrated approaches to CE, and that teachers needed guidance not only to improve their CE‐knowledge and design abilities, but also to increase their socio‐political skills for school‐wide implementation. These results are discussed in view of the current tendency in the Netherlands to define CE in a more centralised and content‐specific manner and in doing so limiting the space for teachers as curriculum‐makers. This study explores the process of teacher scaffolding student engagement in epistemic tools from the critical sensemaking perspective. Epistemic tools are contextual artifacts manipulated to investigate and evaluate ideas to construct knowledge within the constraints of a disciplines' representational means. The main sources of our data are ~50 min‐long semistructured, responsive interviews with the 14 secondary school science teachers who participated in our professional learning environment (PLE) and implemented the activities from the PLE in their classrooms. We utilized the tools of discourse analysis to explore teacher sensemaking while they learned to teach science with epistemic tools. We then looked at intertextualities of meaning across multiple sets of data such as students' artifacts, pre/postsurveys, audio and video recordings of the workshops, and teachers' written implementation feedback forms. As a result, we recognized a pattern across different classrooms. Teachers would begin with a contextualized goal, and use a pedagogical strategy to scaffold their students as they worked to achieve that goal. Then, all teachers reported they faced some sort of ambiguity (such as grappling with failure, different levels of students). When faced with an ambiguity, teachers would then revise either their contextualized goal or their initial pedagogical strategy to help their students to reach their goals. Finally, we utilized constant‐comparative analysis to identify themes for teachers' contextualized goals. Four major themes emerged, including communicating connections to core ideas of science, making sense of how science works, assessing students' learning process outcomes, and fostering students' epistemic agency. The findings of the study have implications for future research and professional development activities on the use of epistemic practices and tools in classrooms with unique contextual characteristics. This paper aims to explore some of the changes affecting the teaching and learning of secondary geography as a result of the COVID‐19 pandemic. In doing so, it sets a focus on geographical knowledge and its alteration in times of extraordinary measures to diagnose its challenges. Against the background of current debates on competence‐ and standard‐based education from the sociology and history of education as well as from geography education, problem‐centred interviews served to explore the perspectives of 15 German secondary school teachers on the alterations their Geography teaching suffered since the COVID‐19 lockdown. Analytical categories were general challenges, communication with stakeholders, educational media usage, and the role of COVID‐19 in geographical knowledge acquisition. The results uncovered, along with systemic challenges, two main areas in need of consideration to redefine subject‐specific knowledge in times of competence‐based education, namely geography teachers' professional identity and perspectives on the role of geographical competencies. The transition from high school to college is challenging for many students, especially first‐generation college students. College courses require disciplinary specific reading, writing, and thinking skills not often taught in high school, such as reading and analyzing complex texts and constructing original arguments in discipline‐specific genres. Drawing on interviews with 18 first‐generation college students in their first year at a four‐year university, the author sought to understand their perceptions of their preparation for the literacy demands of college. Students reported multiple ways that they wished their high schools had better prepared them, including more complex reading assignments and opportunities to engage in original research. Additionally, students wished that they had received more guidance in developing and supporting their ideas in writing. The findings from this study suggest specific changes that secondary teachers from all content areas should make to their instruction to better prepare students for postsecondary literacy demands. Previous research indicates that supportive school leadership is a key condition of collaborative teacher learning. The purpose of this study was to develop a typology of how school leaders foster collaborative teacher learning. We adopted an integrative perspective on leadership by examining both learning-centred leadership and distributed leadership practices that are supportive of collaborative teacher learning. Data were gathered by means of interviews with ten school leaders and a questionnaire that was completed by 39 teachers from six secondary schools in the Netherlands. The aim of the interviews was to identify to what extent school leaders applied learning-centred leadership and distributed leadership practices. The questionnaire measured teachers' perceptions of the role of school leaders in teacher learning. As an outcome of this study, we constructed a typology that provides insights into how school leaders foster collaborative teacher learning. Four types of school leaders were distinguished: (a) integrators of teacher learning, (b) facilitators of teacher learning, (c) managers of teacher learning, and (d) managers of daily school practice. This research explores early years practitioners' knowledge and ability to recognise the signs of autism and provide appropriate support. It was carried out using semi‐structured interviews with six UK‐based early years practitioners who have worked with children with autism. The findings highlighted that early years practitioners are aware of autism but have a limited understanding of the early signs of the condition. Furthermore, there are inconsistencies in training and collaboration in early years settings. All these factors influence whether the practitioners are able to recognise the early signs of autism and provide appropriate support. Teacher shortages are a recurring problem in publicly funded schools, in part because of poor retention. Working conditions in schools are an important predictor of teacher job satisfaction and retention, yet research has so far made limited headway in identifying the specific aspects of the working environment which matter. This research uses representative data on state secondary school teachers in England in 2013 to derive an unusually rich set of working conditions variables. Regression analysis is used to model the relationships between working conditions, teacher job satisfaction and turnover intentions. The results show strong associations with the nature of school leadership, whether teachers have received training in the specific subjects they are assigned to teach and scope for career progression within the school. Objective: We aimed firstly to evaluate knowledge, attitudes, and practices about epilepsy among primary and secondary school teachers in the city of Niamey and secondly to formulate targeted sensitization messages for these teachers. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross‐sectional survey was carried out among primary and secondary school teachers in the city of Niamey, capital of Niger, using a self‐administered questionnaire including questions related to knowledge, attitudes, and practices about epilepsy. Results: One hundred and forty‐five (145) teachers aged 27–69 (mean age: 39.57 ± 8.304 years) had answered the questionnaire (52 men and 93 women). In 62.1% of cases, respondents had a bachelor degree in education signifying a high level of education. Sixty‐one respondents (42.1%) considered epilepsy as a brain disease, whereas it was considered as a psychiatric illness by 15.9% of respondents and as an impurity by 38.9%. Sixteen respondents (11%) considered it as a hereditary disease. Epilepsy was considered as a contagious disease by 46.2% of teachers, and the main transmission routes reported were contact with places of crisis (26.2%), physical contact with an epileptic person (16.6%), and contact with saliva (6.9%). It was considered as an incurable disease by 6.9% of teachers. Of the 115 respondents (79.3%) who considered epilepsy as a treatable condition, 46 of them believe that epilepsy is treated by traditional medicine. When someone has an epileptic seizure, 28.3% of respondents think that physical contact with him should be avoided and that the places of the crisis should be avoided. Conclusion: Considering that epilepsy is common in school‐age, the study results suggest the need to train teachers with respect to epilepsy to change misconceptions about epilepsy and to promote positive attitudes toward epileptic people to avoid the rejection of these people by the society responsible for problems of social integration. This paper presents the results of a qualitative analysis, based on the principles of action research in education, of three teaching sequences taught during Geography classes in Southern Switzerland. Each sequence included a controversy on a management project of a public space located in the daily life space of the pupils involved. Different studies have analysed the advantages of a teaching method based on the introduction of controversies into teaching sequences. They stress, for example, the role of this method in the following areas: furthering collective and cooperative learning; enabling pupils to construct personal informed opinions and reinforced statements; developing pupils' autonomy and responsibility. The research underlying this paper aims to measure the impact of this method in terms of strengthening critical thinking competencies, and educating pupils as spatial actors and dynamic citizens. The Geography teaching sequences were planned, under my supervision, by three students of the Teaching Education Institution of Southern Switzerland, where I work as a lower secondary school teacher trainer, as part of their teacher‐training programme. Each student taught the planned teaching sequence in one of their classes. Altogether, three classes were therefore involved in this research study. This qualitative case study documents a secondary English teacher's making, writing and teaching. The focal teacher engaged in diverse making practices – including composing, crafting and digital fabrication. She also participated in a National Writing Project (NWP) Summer Institute that focused on both teacher writing and digital composing. Data include observations at this NWP Project Summer Institute and in the focal teacher's English classroom, as well as interviews and artefact collection related to her making practices. The findings describe how this teacher's making mattered for her understandings of writing and for her teaching (or not). The case offers insights into why it may be important to cultivate educator making, as well as potential tensions between experiencing making and incorporating it into writing pedagogy. Ultimately, it contributes to writing research interested in examining how various forms of production and making are enmeshed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
