The presence of harmful chemical surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in healthcare products is a challenge that world is facing today. The present study aimed to formulate novel green shampoos using rhamnolipid and saponin instead of chemical surfactants, and comparison with commercial shampoos. Biosurfactants were confirmed by thin layer and high‐performance liquid chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and their performance was evaluated by zone inhibition and critical micelle concentration (CMC). The saponin and rhamnolipid reduced the surface tension (ST) of water from 72 to 40 and 30 mN/m at their CMCs, respectively. Four novel shampoo formulations were made with SLS, rhamnolipid, saponin, and a mixture of rhamnolipid and saponin. The green shampoos were evaluated with tests of color, odor, transparency, pH, ST, detergency, solid content, foam type, foam volume, wetting time and microbial contamination standard to determine the physicochemical properties. The green formulations with rhamnolipid, saponin and mixture of rhamnolipid and saponin were clear and transparent with a good odor. Low ST (34.13, 38.83, and 31.73 mN/m), good detergency (63.87%, 57.74%, and 64.45%), comparable solid contents (25.11%, 26.95%, and 27.50%), good wetting time (160, 165, and 153 s), and good foam stability even after 60 min were observed for three green shampoos, respectively. Based on the results, it can be concluded that these green shampoos can compete with commercial shampoos and be a suitable alternative to chemical shampoos containing sulfate and sulfate‐free, especially for children, people with eye and skin sensitivities and with oily hair. We investigated the electrocatalytic properties of Ir/β‐MnO2, with 4.2–5.6 atomic % (at %) iridium. The Ir/β‐MnO2 was synthesized by heating Ir/R‐MnO2—formed via a surfactant‐assisted (SA) method using KMnO4, IrCl3.H2O, and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)—to 400 °C. The Ir/β‐MnO2 (SA) was nano‐sized based on scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). Using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), 5.6 at % Ir/β‐MnO2 (SA) exhibited an overpotential (η) ${\eta){\rm \ }}$ of 327±5 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), at 10 mAcm-2 ${\hskip0.17em{{\rm c}{\rm m}}^{-2}}$ in 0.5 M H2SO4 electrolyte. At 10 mA cm-2 ${{{\rm c}{\rm m}}^{-2}}$ the Ir/β‐MnO2 (SA) catalyzed the OER for 72 h at an η ${\eta }$ of 534 mV. During this time there was a 12 % loss in Mn and 8 % loss in Ir from the structure. An IrO2 catalyst exhibited an initial η of 420±7 for the OER, but after 20 h of operation at 10 mA cm-2 ${{{\rm c}{\rm m}}^{-2}}$ there was a steep rise in potential (>550 mV) and 12 % loss in Ir. The enhanced activity and stability of Ir/β‐MnO2 (SA) is attributed to the incorporation of Ir into the MnO2 lattice during synthesis and the formation of nano‐sized particles using the SA method. Objective Methods Results Conclusions The aim of this work was to investigate the solubility and co‐solubilization of fragrance raw materials (FRMs) in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and polysorbate 20 (P20) surfactant micellar systems, which can advance our knowledge of multi‐solute micellar solubilization and fragrance olfactory performance from product matrices containing the surfactants.The transfer of individual FRMs and binary FRM mixtures into micellar phases was quantified by UV–VIS differential spectroscopy and evaluated in terms of the standard Gibbs free energy change and micelle‐water partition coefficient. Co‐solubilization effects were further evaluated by the deviation ratio.Anionic SDS was found overall to be a more efficient solubilizer than nonionic P20. On an individual basis, micellar solubilization generally increased with solute lipophilicity but was additionally impacted by solute rigidity and steric effects. Micellar solubilization was favoured for more rigid structures and less favoured for FRMs that exhibited larger molecular rotation and steric hindrance. For multi‐solute systems, three co‐solubilization effects were observed: (i) inhibitive effect in which micellar partitioning of both solutes decreased, (ii) an inverse effect where partitioning of one solute increased while the other decreased and (iii) synergistic effect in which partitioning of both solutes increased. During co‐solubilization in P20 micelles, many FRMs competed for solubilization between the polyoxyethylene chains in the outer layer of the micelle, thereby resulting in an inhibitory effect for both solutes. Co‐solubilization of FRM binary mixtures in SDS micelles often resulted in a synergistic increase in micellar solubility, possibly due to micellar swelling, thereby facilitating partitioning of additional solutes into the micelle. An inverse effect in which the micellar solubility of one solute increased, while the other decreased was observed in both surfactant systems with varying degrees of partitioning depending on the composition of the FRM mixture.The results of this study provide valuable insights into the impact of FRM composition on multi‐solute partitioning behaviour and the impact of surfactant type on co‐solubilization in micellar solutions. Background: Protein instability has been reported to be an important cause of haze in white wines; to investigate the feasibility of protease as a substitute for bentonite in the protein stability of white grape liqueurs, the effect of protease combined with heat treatment on the composition and protein stability of liqueur wines was investigated by chemical analysis, sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE), and amino acid analysis. Results: The results showed that the contents of total acid, volatile acid, pH, and glycerol were not significantly different from the blank control; the effect on total protein content and thermal stability were similar to the bentonite treatment; the L∗, b∗, and Cab∗ values of liqueur wines increased by 5.59%, 4.33%, and 4.33% after protease combined with heat treatment (p < 0.05); SDS‐PAGE results confirmed that protease combined with heat treatment had good hydrolysis for thaumatin‐like proteins (TLPs) and chitinases (CHIs) in liqueur wines. Amino acid analysis revealed that the levels of threonine, serine, tyrosine, arginine, and proline had increased, respectively, and isoleucine (1.26 mg/L) and leucine (1.16 mg/L) were newly detected after protease combined with heat treatment. Particle size analysis showed that the protease combined with heat treatment had less effect on the particle size distribution of the wines. Conclusion: Protease combined with heat treatment had a certain protein stabilizing effect and had no significant negative impact on other nutrients of liqueur wines. Incontinence‐associated dermatitis (IAD) is one of the most serious complications in older people with incontinence. Controlling urine property in absorbent pads could be effective for preventing IAD caused by bacterial urine. However, no animal model has been established to evaluate their effectiveness. This study aimed to induce IAD‐like skin changes using absorbent pads containing bacterial urine and to confirm their pathophysiology in rats. Hairless Wistar Yagi rats were divided into the bacteria‐containing urine (BU) and the bacteria‐free urine (U) groups. A 10‐h‐attachment of absorbent pads containing artificial urine with/without bacteria to the skin pretreated with sodium lauryl sulfate was performed repeatedly for 5 days. Macroscopic findings and skin barrier function were examined every day, and histological changes, inflammatory responses and bacterial quantification in tissue samples were examined on Day 5. The BU group exhibited significant skin redness from Day 3, significant elevation of transepidermal water loss from Day 1, and histological changes, including significantly thickened epidermis, abnormal keratinocyte differentiation and erythrocyte leakage. Inflammation, confirmed by higher myeloperoxidase‐positive cells, elevated tumour necrosis factor‐α expression, and vascular endothelial damage, indicated by CD31 and pentraxin 3‐positive cells, were observed in the BU group. The bacterial quantification showed no significant difference between the groups. IAD‐like skin changes including histological changes and inflammation were suggested to be caused by urine properties altered by bacteria. Background Results Conclusion Kenaf seeds are a rich source of protein; however, finding the best extraction method is crucial to obtaining high‐quality protein from these underutilized seeds. This research devised an optimized extraction process for best recovery of kenaf seeds protein using response surface methodology. The key parameters affecting the yield and protein content were optimized, including extraction pH (2–11), seed:water ratio (5:1–50:1), temperature (30–90 °C), and duration (20–360 min). The physicochemical and techno‐functional properties of kenaf seed protein isolates (KSPIs) were examined.A maximum protein yield of 12.05 g/100 g with purity level 91.94 g/100 g was obtained using an optimized extraction with pH 11.0, seed:water ratio 50:1, 360 min duration, and temperature 50 °C. The oil and water retention capacities of KSPI were 1.14 mL g−1 and 1.37 mL g−1 respectively. After 30 min at pH 7, KSPIs demonstrated remarkable emulsion capacity (83.12%) and stability (75.63%), along with high foaming capacity (106%) and stability (18.3%). As per high‐performance liquid chromatography analysis, arginine, glutamic acid, leucine, phenylalanine, and lysine were the most abundant amino acids detected in KPSIs. The KSPIs’ globular protein structure was successfully verified using analytical approaches, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, protein fraction ratios, and differential scanning calorimetry. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis revealed that KPSI has a molecular weight distribution ranging from 10 kDa to 50 kDa.The results of this study support the application of the proposed response‐surface‐methodology‐optimized extraction method for efficient recovery of high‐quality kenaf seed proteins that meet the necessary physicochemical and techno‐functional requirements. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSION Natural polyphenols offer a safer alternative to synthetic antioxidants in meat products. This study investigated the efficacy of green tea and black tea extracts as natural antioxidants in Cantonese sausages to inhibit lipid and protein oxidation.Sausages were prepared with the addition of different concentrations – 100, 300, and 600 mg kg−1 total polyphenols (TP) – of green tea or black tea extract. Oxidation of the sausages was assessed through thiobarbituric acid reactants, carbonyl content, and thiol content, whereas consumer acceptability was evaluated based on texture, color, and sensory analysis. The tea extracts inhibited malondialdehyde production and reduced the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance value from 23.72 mmol MDA g−1 to less than 1.94 mmol MDA g−1. However, the addition of tea extracts decreased the thiol content and caused the loss of myosin heavy chain and actin bonds in sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Although the addition of tea extracts increased the redness and hardness of the sausage, no significant difference in consumer acceptance between the control and treatment groups was observed in the sensory analysis.The tea extract inhibited the oxidation of lipids in Cantonese sausage. There was no negative effect on the sensory characteristics of sausages. 2D transition metal dichalcogenide materials have attracted increasing attention as active surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) platforms. In this study, the influence of n‐ and p‐type doping of exfoliated MoS2 (exMoS2) hybrids on the SERS performance is investigated, employing Rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a probe molecule. It is demonstrated that n‐doped exMoS2 hybrids (exMoS2 mixed with C60, graphene, and sodium dodecyl sulfate) exhibit enhanced SERS intensities, while p‐doping (exMoS2 mixed with TCNQ) resulted in inhibited SERS enhancement. A key discovery is the linear relationship between Raman enhancement of MoS2/dopant hybrids and the difference in their LUMO energy levels, which dictate the degree and direction of charge transfer. Interestingly, MC60‐4, a C60‐doped hybrid, deviates from the linear relationship, displaying remarkable SERS enhancement owing to its chemical interaction and unique Raman scattering activity. The findings provide critical insights into the SERS enhancement behavior of doped MoS2, facilitating precise tuning of SERS intensities by manipulating the MoS2 doping state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) participates in the energy metabolism of proteins and the synthesis of metabolites important for the organism. In this study, GDH enzyme was purified from the liver of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) by 2',5'‐ADP Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography in one step. As a result of this purification process, GDH enzyme was purified 171‐fold with 5.83 U/mg protein‐specific activity. The characterization experiments presented that the storage stability of the purified GDH enzyme was determined as −80°C; optimum temperature 40°C; it was determined that the optimum ionic strength was 100 mM phosphate buffer and the optimum pH was 8.00. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE) and PAGE studies showed that the natural molar mass of the purified GDH enzyme was 346.74 kDa, and the molar mass of its subunits was 53.71 kDa. Km and Vmax values for substrates and coenzymes of GDH enzyme purified from rainbow trout liver were calculated, and the lowest Km value was found in NAD+ (1.86 mM) and the highest Vmax value in NH4+ (1.79 U/mL). The effects of some metal ions, vitamins, and solvents on the activity of the purified GDH enzyme were investigated and also IC50 values and inhibition types. The metal ion with the lowest IC50 value is Ag+ (8.65 ± 1.68 μM), and the vitamin is B6 (0.77 ± 0.04 mM). BACKGROUND: Citrus products often suffer from delayed bitterness, which is generated from the conversion of non‐bitter precursors (limonoate A‐ring lactone, LARL) to limonin under the catalysis of limonin D‐ring lactone hydrolase (LDLH). In this study, LDLH was isolated and purified from sweet orange seeds, and a rapid and accurate high‐performance liquid chromatography method to quantify LARL was developed and applied to analyze the activity and enzymatic properties of purified LDLH. RESULTS: Purified LDLH (25.22 U mg−1) showed bands of 245 kDa and 17.5 kDa molecular weights in native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) and sodium dodecyl sulfate PAGE analysis respectively. After a 24 h incubation under strongly acidic (pH 3) or strongly alkaline (pH 9) conditions, LDLH still retained approximately 100% activity. Moreover, LDLH activity was not impaired by thermal treatment at 50 °C for 120 min. Enzyme inhibition assays showed that LDLH was inactivated only after ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid treatment, and other enzyme inhibitors showed no significant effect on its activity. In addition, the LDLH activity of calcium ion (Ca2+) intervention was 108% of that in the blank group, and that of zinc ion (Zn2+) intervention was 71%. CONCLUSION: LDLH purified in this study was a multimer containing 17.5 kDa monomer with a wide pH tolerance range (pH 3–9) and excellent thermal stability. Moreover, LDLH might be a metallopeptidase, and its activity was stimulated by Ca2+ and significantly inhibited by Zn2+. These findings improve our understanding of LDLH and provide some important implications for reducing the bitterness in citrus products in the future. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. The effect of the emulsification process of the organic n‐eicosane as a phase change material (PCM) in an aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDBS) as a surfactant has been studied regarding the properties of the CaCO3 microcapsules. Such microcapsules aim to limit interactions between the PCM and the matrix (i.e., leakage and unwanted reactions). Optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that the mean size of the n‐eicosane capsule is of the order of 5 μm. However, large non‐spherical objects which could be clusters of flocculated capsules or the results of encapsulation of coalescing n‐eicosane droplets, are observed, particularly when mechanical stirring (MS) is used rather than when an ultra‐turrax (UT) or sonotrode (S) is used in the initial emulsification step. These large, partially encapsulated objects could be the cause of the poor results in leakage tests. It is possible to encapsulate n‐eicosane inside a calcium carbonate shell, with a greater than 50% encapsulation ratio. The yield of encapsulated n‐eicosane measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is similar and shows that 55% n‐eicosane core in CaCO3 shell can be produced. Up to 33 wt.% CaCO3 microcapsules (with 55% n‐eicosane content) have been successfully incorporated into fresh geopolymer paste. This incorporation of 18% (55% × 33%) of PCM does not modify the hardening conditions of the geopolymer since demolding was possible after 2 days at room temperature. Creating acellular vascularized constructs from animal and plant tissue is one of the well‐known strategies for scaffold assembly. Decellularization takes an important position among these strategies. The most common method is chemical decellularization. This approach employs high concentrations of detergents, primarily Triton X‐100, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and sodium hypochlorite (SH). In this work, novel techniques for decellularizing spinach were developed using detergents frequently utilized in laboratories. Spinach leaves were decellularized using Tween‐20, SDS, and SH at low concentrations to generate an acellular plant matrix for tissue engineering. We measured the quantities of DNA and protein, as well as the decellularization using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. The biocompatibility and capacity of the biostructures to stimulate fibroblast wound healing were assessed using MTT and the Scratch assay. The antibacterial activity of the scaffolds was also tested against a gram‐positive bacterium, Staphilococcus aureus, which is a common pathogen associated with wound healing. The best shape, evident vascularization, and good biocompatibility were seen in the Tween‐20 decellularized samples at 1% concentration at 21°C and 37°C through the enhancement of cell proliferation and wound healing. In terms of antibacterial activity, all scaffold samples had a significant effect on Staphilococcus aureus, where the number of bacterial colonies in all six scaffold groups became zero after 4 h of treatment. The scaffolds also showed a 100% kill rate on Staphilococcus aureus, which could avoid wound infection during the repair process, and that can be suggested as a scaffold for tissue engineering applications and an important constituent for pharmacological activities. This study focuses on developing a sustainable and biocompatible polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based scaffold for bone tissue engineering through electrospinning, utilizing calcium carbonate (CaCO3) from Pomacea canaliculata shells and keratin from human hair, known for stimulating bone regeneration. The isolated CaCO3 has been identified to demonstrate two polymorphs, vaterite and calcite, as determined by X‐ray diffraction. The isolation of keratin from human hair was confirmed through sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis, revealing the presence of α‐keratin structures around 45–50 kDa and β‐keratin structures around 55–60 kDa. According to scanning electron microscope observations, the addition of keratin to PCL fibers reduced their diameter from 457 ± 345 to 371 ± 103 nm. Further addition of calcium carbonate led to a mean diameter of 258 ± 76 nm. The melting temperature of PCL fibers containing keratin and CaCO3 was determined to be 76.17 °C via differential scanning calorimetry, while thermogravimetric analysis, conducted at temperatures up to 600 °C, revealed a remaining ash content of 9.59%. Calcium phosphate accumulation was observed to initiate on PCL fibers containing keratin and CaCO3 following a 7‐day exposure to simulated body fluid. The fibers exhibit cytocompatibility, showing no toxicity while supporting the growth and proliferation of Saos‐2 osteosarcoma cells. The results suggest that the innovative incorporation of keratin and CaCO3 into PCL nanofibers could serve as a bioactive matrix compared to pure PCL matrices, thereby offering enhanced potential for bone tissue engineering applications. © 2024 The Author(s). Objective Methods Results Conclusion Basic therapy is an integral part of the treatment of chronic skin diseases. However, the formulation of skin products should be analysed with respect to the physical stability and tolerance by the patients before applying them to diseased skin. In particular, the suitability of the formulation for use on damaged skin should be taken into consideration so that no exacerbation of the condition is caused.The following approach investigated two formulations with the emulsifier sorbitan monostearate and one with the addition of polyethylene glycol 100 stearyl ether. The characterization included rheology, macroscopic and microscopic cream analysis compared to marketed products for basic therapy. Pyranine staining of stratum corneum (SC) and trans‐epidermal water loss (TEWL) measurements were performed with ex vivo porcine SC to asses skin barrier function.The rheological characterization showed a gel‐like, viscoelastic behaviour of the formulations and a viscosity in the same order of magnitude as the marketed products. Staining with pyranine revealed that skin damage caused by sodium lauryl sulfate was compensated by treatment with the developed formulations. Following the same trend, TEWL results clearly showed decreasing values, which evidence improved skin barrier function.In conclusion, the developed sorbitan monostearate formulations can potentially improve deficient skin barrier function as a part of basic therapy of skin diseases and act as a superior alternative to market products comprising a minimum of well‐chosen ingredients. MoS2 and WS2 have gathered significant attention due to their tunable properties and wide range of applications. Liquid‐phase exfoliation (LPE) is a facile method to prepare 2D MoS2 and WS2. Currently, the principally employed solvents for LPE of MoS2 and WS2 are expensive and toxic, and have high boiling points. These drawbacks encourage to find more sustainable alternatives to the liquid medium used for the preparation of 2D material inks. Water is the best option, but surfactants are necessary for LPE in water, since MoS2 and WS2 are hydrophobic. Organic molecules with amphoteric character such as sodium dodecyl sulfate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, and sodium hexadecyl sulfonate (SHS) are selected as suitable candidates for the role. However, the study of these surfactants used in LPE is barely systematically reported. In this work, a detailed investigation is presented on their impact on the LPE of MoS2 and WS2, which are representatives of transition‐metal dichalcogenides. By characterizing and qualifying the products from average number of layers, it is found that all the surfactants work efficiently to exfoliate MoS2 and WS2 into few layers, and SHS stabilizes the 2D layers better than the other two. However, in terms of yield and relative surfactant concentration, a real trade‐off is not identified between maximized quantity of exfoliated materials and minimized surfactant concentration, which prompts to select the colloidal ink based on the specific further needs for processing. To make the hydrotalcite uniformly dispersed in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and enhance its thermal stability, cinnamate‐intercalated calcium aluminum hydrotalcite (CaAl‐cinnamate‐LDHs) underwent organic modification with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide/sodium dodecyl sulfate/polyethylene glycol (CTAB/SDS/PEG). The structures of modified hydrotalcite were characterized using x‐ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope, particle size analysis, and water contact angle test. The thermal stability was assessed through thermal aging oven experiment, Congo Red experiment, and thermogravimetric experiment, revealing their exceptional performance. Simultaneously, the synergistic effect of PEG‐LDHs with auxiliary thermal stabilizers was examined, with epoxy soybean oil proving to be the most effective, which made the PVC sample incompletely black within 120 min. Mechanical properties and dynamic thermomechanical analysis indicated that the overall mechanical characteristics of the PVC samples with modified hydrotalcite were significantly superior to the unmodified CaAl‐cinnamate‐LDHs. Additionally, the optical performance test demonstrated excellent transparency in the PEG‐LDHs/PVC sample. Through analyzing the thermal stability mechanism, it was indicated that hydrotalcite effectively absorbed HCl. Furthermore, the combination of PEG‐LDHs and ESO replaced unstable Cl atoms and reacted with conjugated double bonds, thereby reducing the aging and discoloration of PVC. The present study outlines the approach that was employed for cloning, expression, and characterization of the recombinant pullulanase enzyme from Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 into Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) using pET‐25b (+) expression vector. The recombinant pullulanase enzyme was purified using ammonium sulfate precipitation and immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography (IMAC). The molecular mass of the purified pullulanase enzyme was measured using sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE) as 95 kDa. The purified recombinant pullulanase enzyme demonstrated significant thermal stability, maintaining its structural integrity and functionality at temperatures as high as 90°C over a period of 4 h. The inclusion of divalent metal ions, specifically Ca2+ and Mg2+, had a positive effect on the activity of the pullulanase enzyme. Conversely, the presence of Co2+ and EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid) resulted in suppression of the enzyme activity. The purified pullulanase enzyme demonstrated remarkable resistance when exposed to organic solvents. The enzyme activity was notably decreased in the presence of SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) while β‐mercaptoethanol and tween‐60 did not substantially affect the enzyme activity and stability which suggest its potential applicability in the detergent sector. This work investigated in‐situ synthesis of porous silica‐nickel‐ruthenium composite catalysts for hydrolysis of ammonia borane. The precursors were prepared with an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), to form porous structure in the precursor particles, and the precursors was treated in aqueous solution including sodium borohydride and ammonia borane for in‐situ process to parallelly activate and use the catalysts for hydrolysis of ammonia borane. The result of TEM and nitrogen sorption measurements suggested that the primary particle size of the in‐situ synthesized catalysts decrease with increasing the amount of SDS and sodium chloride as the additive for controlling the primary particle size probably because of the effect of sodium ions to inhibit nuclei growth of the primary particles. From the EDS analyses, the composition of active nickel and ruthenium contents increased with increasing the amount of SDS and sodium chloride except for the highest amount of SDS probably because of adsorption of the metal cations with the excess amount of the surfactant anion to decrease the amount of the metal cations including the catalyst. As an efficient means of material carrying, multilayer capsules are widely used in medicine, agriculture, food safety and other fields. Here, we report a kind of temperature‐triggered multilayer capsule with chitosan‐sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (CS‐SDBS) as the shell and gelatin bead containing α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD@gelatin) as the core. The α‐CD@gelatin/CS‐SDBS multilayer capsules can simultaneously encapsulate various substances, such as drugs, fluorescent materials, and nanoparticles. The encapsulated substances do not interfere with each other because they are located in different layers. Both the temperature‐sensitive property of gelatin and the host‐guest interaction between α‐CD and SDBS are utilized to achieve temperature‐controlled release of substances in the multilayer capsules. The release rate can be adjusted by the α‐CD amount in the gelatin beads. The controlled drug release and chemical detection of the multilayer capsules are studied with sodium salicylate, iodine, and purple cabbage pigment as the carriers. The results show that the α‐CD@gelatin/CS‐SDBS multilayer capsules have excellent capabilities of encapsulation and controlled release, which are beneficial for their application in the fields of substance encapsulation, drug‐controlled release, and chemical detection. To produce a better connection and greater electron transfer efficiency between the TiO2 particles, as well as to eliminate agglomeration and increase the dispersion of TiO2 powders, a silicon dioxide/titanium dioxide (SiO2/TiO2) nanocomposite has been used as a photoanode in this study. An attempt was made to construct dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) at a low cost with reasonable efficiency by replacing the highly costly platinum counter electrode with polypyrrole/sodium dodecyl sulfate (PPy + SDS) as Counter Electrode 1 (C1) and PPy/SDS/multiwalled carbon nanotube (PPy + SDS + MWCNT) as Counter Electrode 2 (C2), using Ru‐based dyes Z907, pomegranate (Pom) dye, arugula (Aru) dye, and hibiscus dye as photosensitizers. The working electrode composite was deposited on fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO) glass using a thermal chemical spraying approach, while the counter electrodes were produced using an electropolymerization method. The structural and optical characteristics are fully examined using several characterization techniques such as X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering, field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The photovoltaic properties of the constructed DSSCs were assessed under light irradiation (100 mW/cm2). When compared to the reference cell based on the Pt counter electrode, which has an efficiency of 8.4%, the measured current–voltage (I–V) curve shows that the efficiency of DSSC in the case of Z907 dye with C1 and C2 was 3.037% and 3.743%, respectively. This suggests that the low‐cost prepared DSSCs have good efficiency. Natural dyes show an efficiency range of 1.317%–0.66%, which indicates a moderate level of sensitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of nanomaterials for energy storage and conversion has always been important. Layered double hydroxide (LDH) is a promising material due to its high capacity, tunable composition and easy synthesis. In this work, the morphology of NiCo‐LDH is tuned with surfactants including sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and investigated the correlation between morphology and electrochemical properties. NiCo‐LDH‐SDS with a layered structure exhibited a specific capacitance of 1004 C g−1 at 1 A g−1, which is higher than that of the needle‐like NiCo‐LDH‐CTAB (678 C g−1) and the rod‐like NiCo‐LDH (279 C g−1). Meanwhile, NiCo‐LDH‐SDS and NiCo‐LDH‐CTAB showed a reduction of 36 and 19 mV, respectively, in their overpotentials at 10 mA cm−2 compared to NiCo‐LDH. Contact angle and adhesive force measurements proved the influence of morphology on the interfacial properties that layered structure is favorable for the timely detachment of the bubbles. Therefore, rational morphology regulation of LDH can effectively alter the gas–liquid–solid interface and thereby accelerate the reaction kinetics. The connections between morphologies, bubbles releasing and electrochemical performance are well established in this work, which can be applied in the investigation of nanomaterials for energy‐related activities, especially the ones concerning bubbles releasing processes. Nanomaterials based on metal oxides, especially Cu2O, have received much attention in recent years due to the many unique properties of the surface plasmon resonance they provide. The report presented the co‐precipitation method, a simple preparation method to produce Cu2O oxide particles. In addition, to improve the unique antibacterial properties of Cu2O, a proposed method is to attach Ag nanoparticles to the surface of Cu2O particles. The Cu2O and Cu2O−Ag particles were synthesized based on redox reactions using ascorbic acid (LAA) as a reducing agent. Moreover, in this experiment, two surfactants, polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), were added during the manufacturing process to create particle samples and particle combinations with better properties than the original sample. Changes in the characteristics and properties of particle samples are determined by many different physical and chemical methods such as ultraviolet‐visible spectroscopy (UV‐Vis), infrared spectroscopy (IR), noise X‐ray radiation (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Finally, the activity against bacteria, including E. coli and S. aureus, was also tested using the agar well diffusion method to determine the zone of inhibition. The results improved the particle size value, which decreased by half to 200 nm when two additional surfactants, PEG and SDS, were added. In addition, the antibacterial ability has also been shown to increase significantly when the diameter of the bacterial inhibition zone increased significantly, reaching values of 20 mm (Cu2O/Ag/SDS) and 32 mm (Cu2O/Ag/PEG) for the E. coli bacterial strain. The initial test sample was only about 14 mm in size. The S. aureus bacterial strain also had a similar improvement trend after adding Ag to the Cu2O surface with the appearance of two surfactants, SDS and PEG. The inhibition zone diameter values reached the optimal value at 36 mm in the Cu2O/Ag/PEG particle combination sample compared to only the initial 26 mm in the Cu2O particle sample. Finally, the particle samples are added to the acrylic emulsion paint film to evaluate the changes. Positive results were obtained, such as improvement in adhesion (1.22 MPa), relative hardness (240/425), and sand drop resistance (100 L/mil) in the Cu2O/Ag/PEG particle combination sample, which showed the correctness and accuracy of the research. This study explores the efficacy of a cost‐effective, functionalized adsorbent derived from bagasse fly ash (FA) for the removal of the surfactant sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) from aqueous solutions. The raw bagasse FA underwent a modification process involving reflux with TiO2 in NaOH at 100°C for 24 h, resulting in a modified fly ash (MFA). Comparative analyses of the sorbents were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), powder X‐ray diffraction (pXRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface analysis, and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). The surface area of the original FA was found to be 10.795 m2 g−1, which increased to 30.597 m2 g−1 postmodification. Similarly, the crystallinity of FA was initially 49.36% and enhanced to 79.70% after the modification process. The adsorption process of SDBS onto both FA and MFA were found to follow pseudo‐second‐order kinetics. Moreover, the Langmuir adsorption isotherm was the most fitting model, as evidenced by the R2 values at 298 K for SDBS‐FA (0.99) and SDBS‐MFA (0.99), both of which are remarkably close to unity. The dimensionless separation factor (RL) was determined to be less than one, indicating favorable adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacities predicted by the Langmuir model are 156.00 mg/g for FA and a notably higher 231.48 mg/g for MFA. Thermodynamic analysis revealed a positive change in enthalpy (ΔHo) for SDBS‐FA and SDBS‐MFA of 54.50 and 124.48 KJ mol−1, respectively, suggesting endothermic adsorption. Additionally, the Gibbs free energy (ΔGo) was negative for both SDBS‐FA and SDBS‐MFA, suggesting that the adsorption of SDBS is spontaneous. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates the temperature‐dependent micellization behaviors of saponin and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactants, which are both important for chemical enhanced oil recovery (CEOR). It also evaluates the effect of silica nanoparticles (SiO2) on these behaviors, given the growing interest in nanoparticle‐enhanced surfactants. The research focuses on the tunable properties of nanoparticle‐surfactant combinations. The structural differences between saponin and SDS were identified using FT‐IR and H‐NMR. The Du Noüy ring method was used to measure surface tension at various concentrations and temperatures (25–75 °C). FTIR analysis showed distinct differences between SDS and Saponin, associated with head group where there is hydroxyl groups in SDS solution. H‐NMR showed higher complexity of Saponin's structure, evidenced by its diverse sugar‐related proton peaks. Both SDS and Saponin reduce surface tension with temperature; SDS is more effective, lowering it to 42.1 mN/m versus 48.5 mN/m for Saponin. With SiO2, tensions drop to 39.2 mN/m for SDS and 45.5 mN/m for Saponin. Both surfactants maintain CMCs under reservoir temperature in the 0.05–0.1 wt % range. Saponin exhibited a more negative ΔG° and consistently negative ΔH°, indicating a thermodynamically favorable exothermic reaction. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on both anionic and nonionic surfactants under simulated reservoir conditions. This study presents the successful synthesis of a vibrant blue nanopigment derived from the metastable structure of Na‐heulandite zeolite. Employing ion exchange and coprecipitation methods with cobalt and zinc ions, followed by thermal treatment at 1100°C, resulted Co‐willemite and gahnite phases, confirmed by x‐ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement. Optical analyses verified the blue coloration, with cobalt ion transitions evident. CIE L* a* b* colorimetric analysis placed the pigment in the blue region (L* = 49.19, b* = −22, a* = −11). Application to ceramic tiles, followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) modification, produced a nearly superhydrophobic surface (contact angle 140°, sliding angle 8°), attributed to the nano–micro structure and SDS–silica interaction. Field emission‐scanning electron microscopy images confirmed the pattern‐like surface with small patterns. Addressing the issue of processing fine kaolinite and quartz particles in coal slime, this study utilized molecular simulation and Density Functional Theory (DFT) to investigate the chelate adsorption characteristics of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on kaolinite surfaces. As a major clay mineral component in coal slime, kaolinite reduces coal's calorific value but holds potential for industrial and agricultural applications. The research identified distinct interactions between SDS and the tetrahedral SiO layer and octahedral AlO layer of kaolinite, in contrast to quartz, which contains only the tetrahedral SiO layer. This difference is crucial for the effective separation of kaolinite from quartz. The study focused on analyzing SDS adsorption on the (001) and (00‐1) planes of kaolinite. The findings revealed strong adsorption of SDS on kaolinite surfaces, especially on the (001) plane, evidenced by significant charge transfer indicating efficient chelation. This effect results from the interaction of SDS's electron‐donating atoms (such as S and O) with the metal atoms on the surface of kaolinite. Adsorption strength was quantified through adsorption energy calculations, showing a stronger interaction on the (001) surface. Experimental validations, including single mineral flotation experiments and infrared spectroscopic analysis, further corroborated the simulation outcomes. These tests demonstrated improved flotation recovery of kaolinite in the presence of SDS and with reduced particle size. Infrared analysis revealed that SDS selectively and strongly adsorbs on kaolinite surfaces, as indicated by diminished hydroxyl group stretching vibrations in the FTIR spectrum and changes in absorption peaks related to inorganic vibrations and sulfonic acid groups. The study demonstrates that SDS can selectively and effectively adsorb onto kaolinite surfaces, particularly on the (001) plane, facilitating the efficient extraction of fine kaolinite from coal slime. Olopatadine (OLP) is widely utilized as an effective antihistaminic drug for alleviating ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. With its frequent usage in pharmacies, there arises a pressing need for a cost‐effective, easily implementable, environmentally sustainable detection method with high sensitivity. This study presents a novel signal‐on fluorimetric method for detecting OLP in both its pure form and aqueous humor. The proposed approach depends on enhancing the weak intrinsic fluorescence emission of OLP, achieving a remarkable increase of up to 680% compared to its intrinsic fluorescence. This enhancement is achieved by forming micelles around protonated OLP using an acetate buffer (pH 3.6) and incorporating a solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant. A strong correlation (R = 0.9996) is observed between the concentration of OLP and fluorescence intensities ranging from 1.0 to 100.0 ng mL−1 with a limit of detection of 0.22 ng mL−1. This described method is successfully employed for quantifying OLP in both its powder form and pharmaceutical eye drops. Furthermore, it demonstrates robust performance in determining OLP in artificial aqueous humor with a percentage recovery of 99.05 ± 1.51, with minimal interference from matrix interferents. Alkyl glycoside hydroxypropyl sulfonate (APGSHS), as a kind of anionic surfactant was successfully prepared using sodium 3‐chloro‐2‐hydroxypropane sulfonate and alkyl polyglucoside (APG). The surface and application properties of APGSHS were studied in detail. The results showed that APGSHS showed much enhanced solubility and there for better foaming and detergency properties than APG due to the introduction of sulfonate group. Then, the mildness of APGSHS and commercially available mild surfactants was compared using zein test and hemolysis of red blood cells (RBC) test. APGSHS has higher mildness than other surfactants, such as potassium lauroylglycinate (PLG), lauramidopropyl betaine (LAB), and sodium laurylmethyl taurate (LMT). The mechanism of mildness was investigated by studying the interaction between APGSHS and protein using zein model through micelle behavior and protein structure. It was observed that compared to other anionic surfactants such as sodium fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (AES) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), APGSHS possesses a larger hydrophilic head group and causes less damage to the secondary structure of zein. Finally, the effect of different surfactants on the hair keratin loss during washing was evaluated. The results showed APGSHS had a minimal damaging effect on keratin in the hair, resulting in the lowest protein loss. Alkali pretreatment of fibers is an efficient technique to enhance fiber/matrix bonding in natural fiber composites. This study investigates if the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant increases the efficacy of alkali treatment of hemp fibers. SDS concentrations ranging between 2 and 10% wt/wt were used with a constant (10% wt/wt) NaOH concentration. Fiber surfaces were observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Fiber surfaces were cleaner when SDS was used compared with alkali treatment with no SDS added indicating the elimination of substances such as lignin, waxes, hemicelluloses, and pectin. Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy and TGA studies also confirmed the removal of these substituents. Mechanical performance of the composites was evaluated via static and dynamic tests. The tensile strength and modulus improved 24.9% and 13.6% respectively with the addition of 10 wt% SDS. The flexural strength and modulus also showed an improvement of 22.4% and 26.3% respectively when 10 wt% SDS was added to alkali solution. Dynamic mechanical tests showed that the storage and loss modulus of the composites increase with SDS/alkali treatment. Results indicated that the use of SDS in alkali treatment notably improves the composite performance which is attributable to more efficient elimination of noncellulosic constituents from fiber structure. Waterborne acrylic emulsions are considered suitable materials for cosmetic skin adhesives because of their positive attributes, such as their safe water‐based polymerization process and low volatile‐organic‐compound emissions. The significant challenge of inadequate water resistance in emulsion adhesives, which is primarily caused by the excess surfactants retained at the interface of emulsion particles upon film formation, necessitates urgent resolution for their viable application as cosmetic adhesives. Zein, a corn‐derived protein, possesses hydrophobic amino acids that provide exceptional water‐repellent characteristics. Therefore, zein is expected to exhibit a remarkable skin‐adhesion attribute. This paper presents the introduction of a pioneering zein/acrylic hybrid emulsion exhibiting remarkable skin adhesion and water resistance, which was achieved through the use of zein, a corn‐derived protein. After formation, the zein/ sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) complex can unfold the zein chain, thereby enhancing skin adhesion, while concurrently inhibiting surfactant migration to enhance water resistance. The zein/SDS complex was introduced into the Pre‐emulsion (PE) manufacturing process during emulsion polymerization. As expected, the zein/acrylic hybrid emulsion demonstrated favorable skin adhesion and a notable improvement in water resistance. This approach presents a promising avenue for the practical application of emulsion nanoparticles as eco‐friendly cosmetic adhesives, offering excellent durability and skin adhesion through the utilization of naturally derived proteins. The poor plasticity of coal results in a large amount of dust during the mining process, thereby posing a significant impact on mine safety and the health of workers. In order to address this issue, a method has been proposed to suppress dust by enhancing the plasticity of coal through injecting a reactive material, which forms a colloid within the coal. The results implicated that the self‐active colloidal dust suppressant, composed of sodium alginate, gluconolactone, calcium disodium EDTA, and sodium dodecyl sulfate, effectively improved the moisture content of coal seams and decreased the brittleness of coal. Scanning electron microscopy and specific surface area test revealed that the dust suppressant not only tightly adheres to the surface of the coal after the reaction, but also penetrates the coal pores and forms a colloid on both the inner and outer surfaces of the coal. The material is rich in carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, which forms hydrogen bonds with the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups present in coal. This interaction enhances the toughness of coal. Simultaneously, it has the ability to adsorb water and function as a moisturizer. The goal of the current research was to establish a quick and practical fluorometric technique for trifluridine analysis. The approach relied on the drug's complex formation with the zinc ion to produce a high‐fluorescence product. The fluorescence was further enhanced by adding sodium dodecyl sulfate, and it was observed at 450 nm following excitation at 400 nm. With a determination coefficient of 0.9994, the association between emission intensity and trifluridine concentration was linear between 1 and 125 ng mL−1. The quantitation limit was 0.987 ng mL−1 while 0.333 ng mL−1 was the detection limit. The buffer type, pH and concentration, type of surfactant and concentration, and finally the diluting solvent were among the reaction conditions that were closely examined. With great precision and reliability, the drug in question was quantified using this method in dosage formulations. Bone implantation surgery is often accompanied by bacterial infection, resulting in infectious bone non‐union, pathological fracture and other serious consequences, which will aggravate the pain of patients. A non‐antibiotic coating consisting of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and levulinic acid (LA) with different concentrations was prepared by the authors on the zinc–aluminium alloy (ZA6‐1) using a wet chemistry treatment for orthopaedic application. The influence of SDS/LA concentrations on the surface morphology, composition and performance of the developed coating was investigated. The results showed that as‐prepared coating on a zinc alloy surface could improve the substrate's corrosion resistance and increase the degradation rate from 0.82 to 19.70 μm/year upon raising the SDS/LA concentration. Furthermore, higher hydrophilicity (<14°), better cell proliferation (>100%) and morphology, as well as good cell adhesion and differentiation (ALP >95% for 7 days) were observed on coated zinc alloys. The increased SDS/LA concentration slightly weakens the biocompatibility and enhances the antibacterial performance of coated zinc alloys due to the synergistic effect of SDS/LA. Overall, the coating comprising 6 wt.% SDS and 9 wt.% LA showed excellent antibacterial action with a high level of biocompatibility, confirming its potential application for orthopaedic implants. High‐temperature‐requirement protein A (HtrA) family proteins play important roles in controlling protein quality and are recognized as virulence factors in numerous animal and human bacterial pathogens. The role of HtrA family proteins in plant pathogens remains largely unexplored. Here, we investigated the HtrA family protein, DegQ, in the crucifer black rot pathogen Xanthomonas campestris pathovar campestris (Xcc). DegQ is essential for bacterial attachment and full virulence of Xcc. Moreover, the degQ mutant strain showed increased sensitivity to heat treatment and sodium dodecyl sulfate. Expressing the intact degQ gene in trans in the degQ mutant could reverse the observed phenotypic changes. In addition, we demonstrated that the DegQ protein exhibited chaperone‐like activity. Transcriptional analysis displayed that degQ expression was induced under heat treatment. Our results contribute to understanding the function and expression of DegQ of Xcc for the first time and provide a novel perspective about HtrA family proteins in plant pathogen. The aim of this research was to assess the efficacy of different microbial strains in the decolorization of anthraquinone dyes. Strain R81 was obtained from a textile company's wastewater discharge for its remarkable ability to decolorize reactive blue 19 (RB19). By employing physiological and biochemical analyses, along with 16S rRNA gene sequencing, strain R81 was determined to be Brevibacillus laterosporus. After optimization, the decolorization rate achieved a peak of 86.24% over a 48‐h timeframe, utilizing an initial dye concentration of 100 mg L–1. The decolorization capacity of strain R81 was observed to be impeded by heightened levels of salt and temperature in culture solutions, yet remained unaltered when R81 cells were directly introduced into dye solutions. Furthermore, cells that were induced through prior cultivation in a medium containing RB19 demonstrated enhanced efficacy in decolorization compared to noninduced cells. Subsequent analysis indicated that the development of biofilms and the synthesis of polysaccharides by strain R81 were augmented in a concentration‐dependent fashion by RB19. Nevertheless, the decolorization efficacy of R81 was impeded by the existence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), both of which possess the capacity to eliminate polysaccharides. The decolorization capabilities were reinstated by the SDS or CTAB eluent containing polysaccharides, suggesting a reliance on the presence of polysaccharides. The employment of stepwise diethylaminoethyl (DEAE)‐cellulose chromatography and decolorization experiments elucidated the importance of a specific polysaccharide in the decolorization process. BACKGROUND: Enzymatic crosslinking is a method that can be used to modify Inca peanut albumin (IPA) using polyphenols, and provides desirable functionalities; however, the effect of polyphenol structures on conjugate properties is unclear. In this study, we selected four polyphenols with different numbers of phenolic hydroxyl groups [para‐hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA), protocatechuic acid (PCA), gallic acid (GA), and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)] for covalent modification of IPA by enzymatic crosslinking, and explored the structure–function changes of the IPA–polyphenol conjugates. RESULTS: Sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE) and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF‐MS) analysis showed that laccase successfully promoted covalent crosslinking of IPA with polyphenols, with the order of degree of conjugation as EGCG > GA > PCA > HBA, the IPA–EGCG conjugate showed the highest polyphenol binding equivalents (98.35 g kg−1 protein), and a significant reduction in the content of free amino, sulfhydryl, and tyrosine group. The oxidation of polyphenols by laccase forms quinone or semiquinone radicals that are covalently crosslinked to the reactive groups of IPA, leading to significant changes in the secondary and tertiary structures of IPA, with spherical structures transforming into dense lamellar structures. The 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging ability and emulsification stability of IPA–EGCG conjugates improved by almost 6‐fold and 2.7‐fold, respectively, compared with those of unmodified IPA. CONCLUSION: These data suggest that the higher the number of polyphenol hydroxyl groups, the higher the degree of IPA–polyphenol conjugation; additionally, enzymatic crosslinking can significantly improve the functional properties of IPA. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Sulfate surfactants in cosmetic products raise concerns due to their skin irritating impact and sustainability. Rhamnolipid, a green and safe biosurfactant, was studied from the perspective of rheology to help develop a formulation with natural and effective ingredients for cosmetics. The viscosity of rhamnolipids was investigated by changing pH, concentration and adding additives like inorganic salts (NaCl, MgCl2) and polymers (Carbopol® Ultrez 20, Carbopol® Aqua SF‐1, Carbopol® 940 and cationic guar gum), showing that the viscosity of rhamnolipid had a positive correlation with the increase of concentration, a negative correlation with the increase of pH, and that polymers instead of inorganic salts were suitable for thickening rhamnolipid. Further rheology tests indicated that Carbopol® Aqua SF‐1 imparted gel properties of rhamnolipid while cationic guar gum determined the liquid properties. In addition, the rhamnolipid‐containing moisturizing cream consisting of stearic acid/squalane ratios all showed shear‐thinning and gel behavior the same as the commercial ones. Visual appearance and particle size analysis indicated that all formulations exhibited high storage stabilities. The knowledge gained from this study may be useful for designing "sulfonate‐free" shampoo and cream with rheological properties that can be tailed for specific commercial cosmetic applications. Present study concerned with expression and biochemical characterization of lipase enzyme for potential use in detergent formulation. Lipase gene (1242 bp) of Bacillus thuringensis was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 strain using pET‐21a(+) expression vector. Maximum expression of cloned lipase gene was obtained at 37°C with an induction of 0.4 mM IPTG (Isopropyl ß‐D‐1‐thiogalactopyranoside) after 4 h of induction. Recombinant lipase was purified to homogeneity using immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography carrying 109.80 U/mg specific activity with 38.79 purification folds. Molecular mass of purified lipase was determined as 45 kDa using sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Purified recombinant lipase showed stability up to 90°C and retained significant activity (52%) after 4 h at 90°C. It was also found to be stable at a wide range of pH and in the presence of higher concentrations of several inhibitors (sodium dodecyl sulfate, dimethylsulfoxide, sodium azide, β‐mercaptoethanol, polysorbate 80, dithiothreitol) as well as organic solvents (acetone, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, n‐butanol). The activity of recombinant lipase was enhanced in the presence of various metal ions and activated up to 200% by Ca2+. The compatibility of recombinant lipase with commercial detergents and other additives as well as its broad substrate specificity endorse the potential application of this enzyme in detergent formulations. Keratin extracted (KE) from chicken feathers was used for the production of composite films comprising poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) and keratin (PCL/KE films). The process involved the extraction of keratin from chicken feathers using a 0.1 M NaOH solution, followed by characterization via sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The PCL was synthesized through the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of e-caprolactone (ε-CL) with Sn(Oct)2 as a catalyst. Films were prepared via solvent casting, including pure PCL films and those enriched with different weight percentages of KE (10%, 15%, 25%, and 30%). The films were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM analysis revealed a more uniform incorporation of KE within the PCL matrix in the case of the 15% keratin-enriched film (PCL/KE15) as compared to other keratin percentages. The thermal analysis showed a positive influence of keratin on the thermal stability of the films. Keratinocytes viability and proliferation tests on the PCL/KE15 film demonstrated compatibility with cells. In this study, the magnesium aluminum layered double hydroxide intercalated with sodium dodecyl sulfate (Mg‐Al S‐LDH) was synthesized by using a roasting–restoration method based on the Mg‐Al LDH precursor, and their effectiveness in removing Cu2+ from aqueous solutions was investigated. Detailed microstructural characterization of these adsorption materials involved employing X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms (N2 ad/desorption), and thermogravimetric‐differential thermal gravimetric analysis (TG‐DTG). The experimental results revealed that Mg‐Al S‐LDH displayed a plate‐like layered structure with a larger surface area and enhanced adsorption ability. Specifically, the maximum adsorption capacity, reaching 96.15 mg ⋅ g−1, was achieved at a temperature of 298 K, accompanied by a rapid adsorption rate. The adsorption kinetics adhered to the pseudo‐second‐order model, suggesting that chemisorption controlled the adsorption behavior. Furthermore, the adsorption of Cu2+ followed the Freundlich model, signifying a multi‐site adsorption mechanism onto the surface and layers of Mg‐Al S‐LDH. Thermodynamic investigations indicated that higher temperatures facilitated Cu2+ dissolution and strengthened the affinity with Mg‐Al S‐LDH, with a positive ΔHΘ value suggesting that the Cu2+ adsorption process was endothermic and temperature‐enhancing. Ion selectivity experiments demonstrated that Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions had a significant impact on Cu2+ adsorption, while the effects of Zn2+ and Fe2+ ions were less pronounced. The primary adsorption mechanisms of Cu2+ onto Mg‐Al S‐LDH encompassed precipitation, complexation on the surface and layers, and isomorphous substitution. This study sheds light on the promising potential of Mg‐Al S‐LDH as an effective adsorbent for heavy metal removal and provides valuable insights into its adsorption mechanisms and performance in different environmental conditions. An ideal scaffold for skin tissue engineering should have a suitable potential for antibacterial activity, no hemolysis, sufficient porosity for air exchange, water retention capacity, and a suitable swelling rate to maintain tissue moisture. Considering this issue, our study used decellularized ovine pericardial tissue's extracellular matrix (ECM). These scaffolds were decellularized with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and sodium deoxycholate (SD) detergents along with vacuum methods. Following imaging with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), analysis of the mechanical properties, and the measurement of the amount of DNA, collagen, and glycosaminoglycan (GAG), our study observed that the three‐dimensional (3D) structure of ECM was largely preserved. Resveratrol (RES) 400 µg/µL was loaded into the above scaffold, and analysis revealed that scaffolds containing RES and with vacuum reported higher antibacterial properties, a higher swelling rate, and increased water retention capacity. In this work, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)‐bismuth vanadate (Bi4V2O11; BVO)‐sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) composite films are fabricated by the solution casting method. The frequency dependence of the dielectric and electric performances of the resultant PVDF‐BVO‐SDS composites on various weight percentages of SDS contents is investigated. The results demonstrate that the three‐component PVDF‐BVO‐SDS composites have a superior dielectric constant (96) and suppressed dielectric loss (<1) at 102 Hz for 20 wt% of SDS contents. The surface morphology of the PVDF‐BVO‐SDS composites shows that SDS is successfully reinforced on the PVDF‐BVO matrix with better homogeneity. The ac conductivity of the PVDF‐BVO‐SDS composites is also improved, which is helpful for the enhancement of the dielectric constant and relatively low loss in the composites. Moreover, the PVDF‐BVO‐SDS composite also exhibits a larger value of the dielectric constant (96) than the pristine PVDF matrix, which is 15 times higher than that of the pristine one. These significantly enhanced dielectric and electrical characteristics of PVDF‐BVO‐SDS composites will fulfill the practical criteria for their use in high dielectric‐constant capacitors and energy storage devices. BACKGROUND: The biocompatible amphiphilic silk fibroin, extracted from domesticated silkworms, can adsorb at the oil--water interface and form elastic interfacial layers. In this study, three surfactants (cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, the nonionic polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate, and the anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate) were selected to investigate, through interfacial shear rheology, the influences of surfactants on the interfacial viscoelasticity and stability of silk fibroin at the interfaces between water and two different oils. RESULTS: The presence of surfactant prolongs the equilibration time and enhances the interfacial elastic modulus and toughness of the interfacial silk fibroin layers, especially at the nonpolar dodecane--water interface. However, when the surfactant exceeds a critical concentration, the shear modulus and stability of interfacial silk fibroin layers begin to decrease due to the competitive adsorption of surfactant molecules and the weakening of the protein network. Owing to electrostatic interactions, the ionic surfactants cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and sodium dodecyl sulfate can form more hydrophobic complexes with silk fibroin, which results in higher shear moduli than for silk fibroin and silk fibroin--polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate mixture. CONCLUSION: Both the surfactant type and oil polarity play important roles in the adsorption, shear viscoelasticity, and stability of silk fibroin at the oil--water interface. Enhanced interactions between a silk fibroin--surfactant mixture and the oil phase delay the equilibration of the adsorption layers but strengthen the stability of interfacial layers. Toward identifying environmentally friendly sound‐absorbing materials, the fabrication of biodegradable bagasse foams and their acoustic absorption and transmission loss were investigated. 10‐mm‐thick bagasse foams were fabricated using different concentrations of four non‐carcinogenic surfactants: sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), sodium bicarbonate (SB), potassium oleate (PO), and polyoxyethylene sorbitol ester (T20). Electron microscopy revealed that the foams comprised microfibers with a 10%–25% porosity. The foams were found to be thermally stable up to 300 °C. While foams fabricated using SDS were found to have a maximum increment in acoustic absorption (by 200%), those made of T20 had a mild decrease in absorption. The increment in absorption was attributed to the decrease in crystallinity and increase in porosity of microstructure, and the decrement to the decrease in viscous nature. Minimal changes were observed in the transmission loss of the foams. The results presented here demonstrate a simple, scalable green method to fabricate porous biodegradable foams of bagasse, without using any binder or filler, suitable for acoustic insulation that fits sustainable development objectives. This study is based on green synthesized nanomaterials that increase fluorescence intensity in the study of the anticancer drug palbociclib. The basis for the nanomaterials was the use of alumina/nickel oxide nanocomposite (alumina/NiO NCS) biogenically produced from millet seed extract. The proposed materials improved the spectrofluorimetric method for the study of the breast cancer drug palbociclib (PAL) in its real powder and capsules. The amplification properties of the developed spectrofluorimetric system depend on the unique optical properties of the alumina/NiO NCS. Fluorescence detection was determined at λex 260 and at λem 430 nm. The effect of surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) was investigated, and the results obtained with the PAL alumina/NiO/SDS showed linearity of 1.0–800 n ${n}$ g/mL for PAL samples with a correlation coefficient of r>0.999. The aforementioned fluorescence approach showed lower detection and quantification of 0.03 and 1.0 n ${n}$ g/mL, respectively. The proposed system was potentially efficient for the determination of PAL with an excellent percent recovery of 99.50±0.5 %. The effect of some co‐formulated interfering substances such as crystalline cellulose, starch, silicon dioxide magnesium stearate, lactose and gelatine that present in the capsules was investigated and no remarkable difference was found during the assay process of PAL. Interaction study between sulfanilamide (SM) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in an aqueous environment has been conducted using electrical conductivity, emission, and absorption spectroscopy techniques. Conductivity measurements were performed over the temperature range of (288.15 to 318.15) K and SM concentrations ranging from (c=0.005 to 0.03) mol ⋅ L−1. Thermodynamic parameters: Gibbs free energy (ΔGom), enthalpy (ΔHom), and entropy (ΔSom) associated with micellization have been calculated. To further investigate the interactions between (SM and SDS), the absorption and emission spectroscopy were employed at premicellar concentrations of SDS. Resulting SM‐SDS conjugate was then utilized to examine its interaction behavior with electrolytes and vitamins commonly found in biofluids namely chlorides and sulfates of sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, along with L‐ascorbic acid (LAA) and nicotinic acid (NA). Moreover, SM drug has been transformed into its nanoaggregates (SMNA). These nanoaggregates have been characterized using dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Interactions between SMNA‐SDS conjugates were also studied in the presence of the above‐mentioned electrolytes and vitamins. The findings of this study have been interpreted within the context of the interactions occurring in the solution phase. The microstructure of wormlike micelles (WLM) directly affects the rheological properties of their solutions. Investigating the structure–property relationships of WLM has long been a popular topic for researchers who have developed theoretical and empirical models to describe their viscoelastic behavior. All these models rely on a collection of characteristic "length" parameters that are often difficult to estimate using relatively simple rheological tests. In particular, the micelle stiffness, as described by the persistence length, can be difficult to measure experimentally, while being very impactful on the bulk rheology of WLM solutions. Here, an array of inorganic salts (NaCl, LiCl, MgCl2, NaBr, NaI, and Na2SO4) have been used to induce wormlike micelle formation in an aqueous solution of the surfactant sodium lauryl ether sulfate. Ion dissociation/association with the surfactant head groups and the hydrogen bond network of the water alters the effective stiffness of the micelles, allowing for an estimation of the stiffness using three different methods: (1) small angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements, (2) oscillatory rheological measurements, and (3) steady rheological measurements with a thermodynamic packing parameter model. Each of these methods are then compared and shown to be consistent with each other for the micelle solutions tested. The consistency of the results across all the measurements suggests that the approach used in this study, which estimates micelle parameters using steady shear rheology and a thermodynamic model, could provide a simpler and more accessible method for estimating micelle parameters in a wide range of surfactant systems.
