Summary Optical transport has emerged as a candidate solution to cope with the rising data transmission challenges of enormously evolving data. In the bufferless environment, only the ingress node beholds the buffering to speed up the data transfer in the form of data bursts. However, such networks are prone to data contention issues that degrade the overall performance and eventually result in burst loss. The paper proposes a machine learning (ML) inspired deflection routing (DR) algorithm to overcome contention issues in optical burst switching (OBS) network. The contending burst is first evaluated and assigned the priority order as per the available bits. Based on the burst traffic analysis, support vector machine (SVM) kernels are trained to select an alternate route and redirected the bursts to a new output node. It has been observed that for 65% of cases, radial basis function (RBF) kernel demonstrated the best results among the three kernel functions. The work further shows that ML offers a wiser decision to avoid and overcome contention in the deflection of the route of the contenting bursts. Moreover, the proposed DR scheme has achieved the highest throughput and packet delivery ratio (PDR) with an average delay of 9.66 s using an OBS network deployed with 10 groups of nodes. When compared against the contention scenario and the existing work, the proposed DR outperformed the existing technique with a 4% to 11% margin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this article is to evaluate the salivary levels of tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α), interferon‐gamma (IFN‐γ), interleukin‐2 (IL‐2), and IL‐10 in patients with active psoriasis and compare them with those in healthy control subjects. This study included 60 subjects who were clinically diagnosed cases with active psoriasis (categorized further into 33 mild to moderate and 27 severe cases based on the Psoriasis Area Severity Index score) and 60 age‐ and gender‐matched healthy control subjects. Levels of TNF‐α, IFN‐γ, IL‐2, and IL‐10 in the unstimulated saliva of subjects were determined via enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (BT Lab). The salivary levels of TNF‐α, IFN‐γ, and IL‐2 were significantly higher, whereas IL‐10 concentration was significantly reduced in psoriatic patients in comparison to controls, and the difference increased with the progressing severity of the disease. Assessment of cytokine profiles in psoriasis patients is significant for diagnostic validation and monitoring the disease severity. Saliva offers an alternate, noninvasive, and readily available biological sample for evaluating cytokine levels. In this study, the effective rate of two‐wave with diffused power (TWDP) fading channel is investigated by considering multiple‐input single‐output systems under delay constraints. The effective rate is particularly focused because it can be used to perform channel‐capacity analysis while considering the delay aspect. The classical fading models such as the Rayleigh and Rician models are special cases of a TWDP fading model. In the exact analysis of the effective rate, a new analytical expression is derived for TWDP fading channels. Moreover, the tractable closed‐form effective‐rate expressions are deduced for high and low signal‐to‐noise‐ratio regimes in the asymptotic analysis. In addition, all these expressions are presented for a single transmitting antenna, i.e. N = 1 (single‐input single‐output system). The numerical results demonstrate that the effective rate increases by increasing the number of transmitting antennas N and channel‐fading parameter K. This study presents a novel design of Johnson counter using D flip-flops. The performance of D flip-flop is carried out by exploiting the cross-gain modulation effect in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), purging the use of components like polarisation controllers, switches and so on. Performance is evaluated in terms of various variants like operational speed, cost effectiveness of design, rise time/fall time, quality of signal received and the system is found to give better results in terms of extinction ratio even without any feedback path. The Johnson counter or twisted ring counter is implemented using three alloptical D flip-flops producing six states. The D flip-flop incorporates travelling wave SOA and all-optical NOT gate. The proposed counter is reasonably valuable as it desires half of the flip-flops in association to other ring counters which directly reduce the cost of the system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the study is to expound the effect of psoriasis on salivary glands by evaluating the secretion of saliva and salivary cytokine biomarkers in patients with psoriasis. This study was conducted by recruiting 120 subjects that included 60 patients diagnosed clinically with active psoriasis and 60 healthy controls who were age and gender matched to psoriatic subjects. Unstimulated whole saliva was collected from all the subjects by spitting method, and levels of tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α), interferon‐gamma (IFN‐γ), interleukin‐2 (IL‐2), and IL‐10 (IL‐10) were determined via enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (BT Lab, Shanghai, China). Secretion of saliva in psoriasis patients was considerably reduced than in healthy controls. The concentrations of pro‐inflammatory cytokines (TNF‐α, IFN‐γ, and IL‐2) were significantly increased, whereas level of anti‐inflammatory cytokine (IL‐10) was markedly decreased in the saliva of psoriasis patients with hyposalivation compared to healthy subjects. Our results demonstrated significant negative correlation of salivary flow rates with the disease severity. No significant correlations were obtained between salivary levels of tested cytokines and salivary flow rates in our study. Findings of the study reflect inflammation of salivary glands with reduced salivary flow rates in psoriasis patients. The inflammatory responses in salivary gland tissues by virtue of increased pro‐inflammatory cytokines concentrations together with lower anti‐inflammatory cytokine levels may have a role in affecting the saliva secretion in psoriasis patients. Summary: In this paper, we have proposed a high‐performance transmission system of 32 channels based on dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) through an optical fiber link consisting of 110 km per span. To check the influence of nonlinear effects, we have considered phase modulation (SPM), cross‐phase modulation (XPM), four‐wave mixing (FWM), stimulated Raman scattering (SRS), and self‐steepening (SS) which limits the performance of optical communication systems. In the proposed system, each channel is modulated at 200 Gbps of dual‐polarization quadrature phase shift keying (DP‐QPSK) format, with a 50‐GHz grid yield whole data rate of 6.4 Tbps. The results have proved that the nonlinear phenomena degrade the performance of proposed optical fiber communication systems, and XPM has the most dominant effect, followed by SS, SRS, and SPM. The simulation was carried out with Optisystem 14 which is powerful software for modeling and simulation of optical fiber transmission. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
