With the rapid development of big data science, the research paradigm in the field of geosciences has also begun to shift to big data‐driven scientific discovery. Researchers need to read a huge amount of literature to locate, extract and aggregate relevant results and data that are published and stored in PDF format for building a scientific database to support the big data‐driven discovery. In this paper, based on the findings of a study about how geoscientists annotate literature and extract and aggregate data, we proposed GeoDeepShovel, a publicly available AI‐assisted data extraction system to support their needs. GeoDeepShovel leverages state‐of‐the‐art neural network models to support researcher(s) easily and accurately annotate papers (in the PDF format) and extract data from tables, figures, maps, etc., in a human–AI collaboration manner. As a part of the Deep‐Time Digital Earth (DDE) program, GeoDeepShovel has been deployed for 8 months, and there are already 400 users from 44 geoscience research teams within the DDE program using it to construct scientific databases on a daily basis, and more than 240 projects and 50,000 documents have been processed for building scientific databases. Online health monitoring of thyristor converter valve is very important for the stable operation of high voltage direct current (HVDC) system. However, in practical projects, only offline annual maintenance can be realized. This paper proposes a method for parameter identification of thyristor valve based on wavelet packet key feature extraction and Elman neural network. By preprocessing the measurable characteristic parameters of thyristor valve in practical engineering, such as wavelet packet time‐frequency domain feature extraction, variation coefficient optimization and so on, the characteristic vector that can characterize the health state of thyristor valve is obtained and sent to Elman neural network for training, which realizes the rapid online identification of multiple electrical parameters of thyristor modules in converter valve. Simulation and comparative experiments show that the key feature extraction method proposed in this paper has significant advantages in identification accuracy, and can better identify the damping capacitance and leakage resistance of all thyristor modules. Among them, the deterioration of the damping capacitance is more easily identified, the identification accuracy is the highest and the relative identification error is less than 5%. The parameter identification method proposed in this paper has the advantages of fast identification speed, strong model generalization ability and wide application. Fiber‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy is applied actively for gas analysis. Hollow‐core anti‐resonant fibers (HC‐ARFs) with low loss and low spatial overlap between core and cladding modes show the potential of low background. We integrated an HC‐ARF into the Raman system, collected the forward scattering radiation with a lens‐coupled imaging spectrometer, and filtered most of the background through selection of region of interest. The limits of detection (LODs) of this system were determined as 1.2 ppm·bar for CH4, 2.9 ppm·bar for C2H6, 1.6 ppm·bar for C2H4, 2.7 ppm·bar for C2H2, 13.8 ppm·bar for H2, and 16.7 ppm·bar for CO with the excitation laser of 200 mW and the exposure time of 60 s. In addition, the LOD was better than 2.5 ppm·bar for H2S. By the detection of gas samples with the critical detectable concentration, it was proven that the estimated values of LOD from the preceding experimental results are reliable and the system had practical detectability. The gas samples we tested are relevant for multiple fields such as industrial process control and environment monitoring, showing the diversified application prospects of the Raman gas analysis system based on HC‐ARF. We demonstrated high‐resolution continuous‐wave (CW) coherent anti‐Stokes Raman spectroscopy of gaseous samples in a single ring hollow‐core photonic crystal fiber. Pump beam and Stokes beam were provided by CW single longitudinal mode lasers. These narrow linewidth lasers brought the benefit of a spectral resolution of 99 MHz. The high resolution allowed a measurement of a linewidth 0.3 GHz of the ν1 transition of CO2 in a gas mixture with partial pressure of 0.15 MPa and total pressure of 0.9 MPa. Pump beam from a tunable dye laser and Stokes beam from an external cavity diode laser were coupled into the fiber containing gaseous CO2. Fundamental mode phase matching was achieved by tuning gas pressure. The long interaction length provided by the hollow fiber yielded a 60‐dB increase in the anti‐Stoke signal. The attained signal to noise ratio of the spectrum of ν1 component of 0.6‐MPa CO2 was ~25,000 with 152‐mW pump power and 1.4‐mW Stokes power. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Raman spectroscopy is a widely practicable technique in gas analysis, but the application in simultaneous detection of multiple‐trace gas is still a challenge for its weak signal level. To extend the application of Raman gas analysis to detection of trace gas constituents, a closed parabolic sample cell proposed in our previous work is optimized by optical analysis and experimental verification. The optical analysis shows that for a parabolic reflector with rim diameter 6p (p, semi‐latus rectum), the collecting solid angle can be as large as 90% of full space (4π) and the power‐collecting efficiency can be as high as 80%. The variation of the Raman signal level with the position of collecting aperture and the parameter p of parabolic reflector was verified by the experimental results. At the optimized structure parameters, we get a signal‐to‐background ratio of 122 and a signal‐to‐noise ratio of 305 in the Raman spectra of ambient air with exposure time of 1 s. From the results of standard analytic gaseous samples, the limits of detection of 33 ppm‐bar for H2, 38 ppm‐bar for CO, 19 ppm‐bar for CH4, 27 ppm‐bar for C2H6, 23 ppm‐bar for C2H4, and 20 ppm‐bar for C2H2 were obtained with exposure time of 200 s. ABSTRACT Climate warming has been observed for some time in the permafrost regions on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP), China, resulting in active layer thickening, shrinkage or expansion of thermokarst lakes, and reduced permafrost extent. Little is known, however, about the hydrological processes near thermokarst lakes and their influences on lake development. We employed ground-penetrating radar (GPR) profiling, topographic mapping and drilling to explore the interaction between hydrological processes and thermokarst lake development at a site on the QTP. The GPR data and borehole water-level measurements revealed spatio-temporal variation of the frost table and soil water storage, and indicated the main direction of subsurface flow through soil on hillslopes near the lake. The measurements hinted at the self-organised formation of lateral flow channels at the thawing frost table near the lake. The ensuing recharge of the lake is balanced by drainage from the deepest end of the lake, down the topographic gradient, as ascertained by coring and lake bed mapping. Such a process-based qualitative understanding is crucial for assessing the impact of climate change, in conjunction with the local topography and hydrogeology, on the evolution of thermokarst lakes on the QTP. Cooperative diversity is a transmission technique, where multiple terminals form a virtual antenna array that realizes spatial diversity gain in a distributed fashion. The concept of cooperation has already been introduced to MAC layer to design MAC protocol. But it does not take advantage of physical layer's cooperation. In this paper, we present a novel MAC protocol based on IEEE 802.11, called C-MAC, which is able to support the basic building block of cooperative system. In other words, in C-MAC, a source would invite a relay node into data transmission if there exits an available one. During data transmission, the source sends the signal to destination in the first time slot. The relay node will retransmit the overheard information to the destination in the second time slot. The destination combines two signals from the source and the helper to create the spatial diversity and robustness against channel fading. The C-MAC is backward compatible to the legacy IEEE 802.11 system. The performance of C-MAC mainly depends on physical layer's performance as it just provides the support for cooperation at the MAC layer. If the physical layer works well, C-MAC would outperform IEEE 802.11 when considering packet error rate (PER). We also perform extensive simulation using ns-2 with assumptive physical parameters. The results show that C-MAC would outperform 802.11 if PER is over some threshold, e.g. when PER is 0.4, C-MAC can achieve up to 11.5% higher throughput than IEEE 802.11.
