The way individuals handle daily stressors can significantly influence their mental health. Those who struggle with emotion regulation are especially vulnerable to the negative effects of stress. This study explored the role of catastrophizing, a maladaptive emotion regulation strategy, in shaping the relationships between daily stress responses and depressive symptoms. A total of 75 healthy college students participated in the study. We adopted an Ecological Momentary Assessment protocol over 14 consecutive days to capture the day‐to‐day dynamics of stress reactivity and recovery. Our findings indicate that individuals with higher levels of catastrophizing exhibited increased daily stress reactivity and delayed daily stress recovery, consequently raising their likelihood of experiencing amplified depressive symptoms. In contrast, those with lower levels of catastrophizing did not experience the same negative effects of increased daily stress reactivity on their mental health. These results enhance understanding of how real‐life stressors contribute to the development of mental health issues and underscore the importance of adaptive emotion regulation for improved overall health and well‐being. Background: Modified polysaccharides have greatly expanded applications in comparison with native polysaccharides due to their improved compatibility and interactions with proteins and active compounds in food‐related areas. Nonetheless, there is a noticeable dearth of research concerning the utilization of carboxymethyl starch (CMS) as a microcapsule wall material in food processing, despite its common use in pharmaceutical delivery. The development of an economical and safe embedding carrier using CMS and gelatin (GE) holds immense importance within the food‐processing industry. In this work, the potential of innovative coacervates formed by the combination of GE and CMS as a reliable, stable, and biodegradable embedding carrier is evaluated by turbidity measurements, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and rheological measurements. Results: The results indicate that GE‐CMS coacervates primarily resulted from electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding. The optimal coacervation was observed at pH 4.6 and with a GE/CMS blend ratio of 3:1 (w/w). However, the addition of NaCl reduced coacervation and made it less sensitive to temperature changes (35–55 °C). In comparison with individual GE or CMS, the coacervates exhibited higher thermal stability, as shown by TGA. X‐ray diffraction analysis shows that the GE‐CMS coacervates maintained an amorphous structure. Rheological testing reveals that the GE‐CMS coacervates exhibited shear‐thinning behavior and gel‐like properties. Conclusion: Overall, attaining electroneutrality in the mixture boosts the formation of a denser structure and enhances rheological properties, leading to promising applications in food, biomaterials, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry. This study presents an approach for the electrochemical oxidation ring‐opening/cyclization reaction of methylcyclopropane with diselenides/ditellurides, leading to the synthesis of diverse 2‐substituted‐3,4‐dihydronaphthalene derivatives with exceptional selectivity and efficiency. This methodology involves C(sp3)−H functionalization, ring opening and cyclization processes. BASP1 is a membrane‐bound protein that plays a promotional or inhibitory role in a variety of tumors; however, its role in gastric cancer (GC) and in the immune microenvironment has not been reported. The objectives of this study were to determine whether BASP1 is a valuable prognostic marker for GC and to explore its role in the immune microenvironment of GC. The expression level of BASP1 in GC was analyzed based on the TCGA dataset and further verified using GSE54129 and GSE161533 datasets, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting. The association between BASP1 and clinicopathological characteristics, as well as its predictive value, were examined using the STAD dataset. Cox regression analysis was performed to determine whether BASP1 can be used as an independent prognostic indicator for GC, and a nomogram was constructed to predict OS. The association between BASP1 and immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoints, and immune cell markers was confirmed by enrichment analysis, as well as analysis based on the TIMER and GEPIA databases. BASP1 was observed to be highly expressed in GC and was associated with a poor prognosis. The expression of BASP1 was positively correlated with the expression of immune checkpoints and immune cell markers, as well as immune cell infiltration. Thus, BASP1 may serve as a standalone prognostic indicator for GC. BASP1 is highly correlated with immune processes, and its expression is positively correlated with the degree of immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoints, and immune cell markers. Chronic exposure to daily stress can be harmful to mental health especially when individuals lack adaptive adjustment mechanisms. The present study aimed to investigate how the adaptive capacities in cognition and emotion as well as their neural signatures could moderate the stress reactivity in daily life. Seventy‐five healthy participants aged 18–24 years participated in this study. We recorded brain activity using electroencephalography while participants were performing a conflict task and an emotion regulation task in the laboratory. Using the experience sampling method, participants were subsequently instructed to report their daily stress and daily affect on 14 consecutive days. Our results revealed that a larger adaptation effect in reaction times of the conflict task predicted a stronger negative affect in response to the stress of the same day. The adaptation effect in the N2 and P3 components elicited by the conflict task predicted a weaker influence of today's stress level on the next day's stress level, pointing to a better stress adaptation. However, emotion regulation capacities did not predict daily stress reactivity. Our data indicate that conflict adaption predicts two aspects of stress reactivity in daily life: how stress influences the negative affect that day, and how stress that day is related to stress the next day. These findings point to new avenues for early screening of stress‐vulnerable populations, with implications for the prevention and intervention of stress‐related mental disorders. Using a multimethod approach, our study investigated the links between laboratory‐measured behavioral and neural functions of conflict adaptation, emotion regulation, and real‐life stress reactivities measured across two consecutive weeks. Fluctuation patterns of physiological response after acute stress might indicate one's coping potential with stress, yet this relationship has not been widely examined. The present study investigated how Locus of Control (LOC) can influence cortisol and HR responses in an uncontrollable stressful situation. Seventy‐three participants were exposed to acute stress through the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) after finishing the LOC measures. Multilevel regression results suggested that a curvilinear function best captured the shape of the cortisol trajectories which was further moderated by the level of internal LOC. Moreover, higher internality was associated with greater cortisol reactivity and faster recovery. Our study reveals the link between internal control and endocrine stress response. Finally, cortisol upregulation was discussed, as well as the internality‐related accelerated recovery of cortisol, which may be involved in the effect of motivation arousal for better adaptation. Using increased sampling points and refined modeling technique, we found that individuals with strong control beliefs (i.e., higher level of internal locus of control) showed stronger cortisol response to acute stress. We also provide methodology to gauge the individual differences in their cortisol response. These findings add new knowledge regarding the interplay between traits and states in stress coping. Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) with abundant active sites, a class of materials composed of metal nodes and organic ligands, is widely used for photocatalytic degradation of pollutants. However, the rapid recombination of photoinduced carriers of MOFs limits its photocatalytic degradation performance. Herein, Ti3C2Tx nanosheets‐based NH2‐MIL‐101(Fe) hybrids with Schottky‐heterojunctions were fabricated by in situ hydrothermal assembly for improved photocatalytic activity. The photodegradation efficiencies of the NH2‐MIL‐101(Fe)/Ti3C2Tx (N‐M/T) hybrids for phenol and chlorophenol were 96.36 % and 99.83 % within 60 minutes, respectively. The N‐M/T Schottky‐heterojunction duly transferred electrons to the Ti3C2Tx nanosheets surface via built‐in electric fields, effectively suppressing the recombination of photogenerated carriers, thereby improving the photocatalytic performance of NH2‐MIL‐101(Fe). Moreover, the Fe‐mixed‐valence in the N‐M/T led to improvement in the efficiency of the in situ generated photo‐Fenton reactions, further enhancing the photocatalytic activity with more generated reactive oxygen species (ROS). Solar vapor generation technology is promising in seawater desalination, sewage purification, and other fields. However, wide application of this technology is still largely confined due to its high cost and difficulties for scalable production. In this study, an ever‐floating solar evaporator is fabricated by coating multiwall carbon nanotubes on a bicomponent nonwoven composed of polypropylene/polyethylene core–sheath fibers. This all‐fiber structure is highly porous and ultralight, with large specific area (for efficient water evaporation), interconnected channels (for easy vapor escape), and low thermal conductivity (to avoid heat loss). The unique unidirectional water‐transfer behavior of the nonwoven enables it to spontaneously pump an adjustable amount of water for interfacial solar heating and a delicate balance between water supply and loss may accelerate the evaporation speed of water. These distinct benefits endow the solar evaporator with excellent evaporation rates of 1.44 kg m–2 h–1 under the simulated irradiation of 1 sun and 12.81 kg m–2 d–1 under natural sunlight. Moreover, the evaporator can be fabricated by using low‐cost materials and industrialized methods (overall cost ≈2.4 USD m−2), making one believe its practical significance for commercial solar steam evaporation. Endometriosis refers to a benign chronic gynecological disorder, and is defined as the ectopic growth of endometrium in pelvic cavity. Endometriosis affects about 10% of reproductive‐aged women. Unfortunately, the pathogenesis of endometriosis remains obscure, and the disease witnesses a lack of effective therapy approaches. Therefore, more research needs to be performed to throw light on endometriosis, its pathogenesis, and therapy. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), which are defined as functional cellular RNA longer than 200 nucleotides, have been implicated in many chronic disorders. It has been suggested that lncRNAs are closely related to the endometriosis process. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms by which lncRNAs associate with endometriosis should be elucidated more detailed. In our brief review, we first exhibit the aberrant lncRNAs expression in endometriosis. Then, we talk about the molecular mechanisms underlying lncRNAs in endometriosis. It is now widely accepted that mitochondrial biogenesis is inhibited in most cancer cells. Interestingly, one of the possible exceptions is colorectal cancer (CRC), in which the content of mitochondria has been found to be higher than in normal colon mucosa. However, to date, the causes and effects of this phenomenon are still unclear. In the present study, we systematically investigated the functional role of mitochondrial single‐strand DNA binding protein (mtSSB), a key molecule in the regulation of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication, in the mitochondrial biogenesis and CRC cell growth. Our results demonstrated that mtSSB was frequently upregulated in CRC tissues and that upregulated mtSSB was associated with poor prognosis in CRC patients. Furthermore, overexpression of mtSSB promoted CRC cell growth in vitro by regulating cell proliferation. The in vivo assay confirmed these results, indicating that the forced expression of mtSSB significantly increases the growth capacity of xenograft tumors. Mechanistically, the survival advantage conferred by mtSSB was primarily caused by increased mitochondrial biogenesis and subsequent ROS production, which induced telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) expression and telomere elongation via Akt/mTOR pathway in CRC cells. In addition, FOXP1, a member of the forkhead box family, was identified as a new transcription factor for mtSSB. Moreover, our results also demonstrate that proinflammatory IL‐6/STAT3 signaling facilitates mtSSB expression and CRC cell proliferation via inducing FOXP1 expression. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that mtSSB induced by inflammation plays a critical role in the regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis, telomerase activation, and subsequent CRC proliferation, providing a strong evidence for mtSSB as drug target in CRC treatment. Background & Aims: Mitochondrial dynamics of fission and fusion plays critical roles in a diverse range of important cellular functions, and its deregulation has been increasingly implicated in human diseases. Previous studies have shown that increased mitochondrial fission significantly promoted the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. However, how they influence the migration of tumour cells remained largely unknown., Methods: In the present study, we further investigated the effect of mitochondrial fission on the migration and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Moreover, the underlying molecular mechanisms and therapeutic application were explored., Results: Our data showed that dynamin-1-like protein expression was strongly increased in distant metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma when compared to primary hepatocellular carcinoma. In contrast, the mitochondrial fusion protein mitofusin 1 showed an opposite trend. Moreover, the expression of dynamin-1-like protein and mitofusin 1 was significantly associated with the disease-free survival of hepatocellular carcinoma patients. In addition, our data further showed that mitochondrial fission significantly promoted the reprogramming of focal-adhesion dynamics and lamellipodia formation in hepatocellular carcinoma cells mainly by activating typical Ca 2+ /CaMKII/ERK/FAK pathway. Importantly, treatment with mitochondrial division inhibitor-1 significantly decreased calcium signalling in hepatocellular carcinoma cells and had a potential treatment effect for hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis in vivo., Conclusions: Taken together, our findings demonstrate that mitochondrial fission plays a critical role in the regulation of hepatocellular carcinoma cell migration, which provides strong evidence for this process as a drug target in hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis treatment., (© 2017 John Wiley & Sons A/S.
