The Chinese Meteorology Administration chemistry model Chinese Unified Atmospheric Chemistry Environment (CUACE) is online integrated into the mesoscale operational numerical weather prediction (NWP) model (GRAPES_Meso5.1) and aerosol‐cloud‐radiation interaction is achieved to establish the first version (V1) of chemistry‐weather (CW) interacted model GRAPES‐Meso5.1/CUACE CW V1. The most polluted winter 2016–2017 is selected to study the meteorology impacts on haze/fog prediction, the impact of aerosol‐radiation, aerosol‐cloud and CW interaction (ARI, ACI, CWI) on haze/fog prediction and NWP. Single way model without CWI displays reasonable PM2.5 and visibility prediction in general. However, modeled PM2.5 peaks are underestimated and visibility valleys are overestimated during haze/fog pollution, the underestimation of relative humidity (RH) contributes major to this misestimation; CWI model cut the negative bias of PM2.5 peaks and the positive bias of visibility valleys. The improvement of 5 and 3 km low visibility by CWI during severe haze/fog period is more obvious than that of 10 km, which just compensates for the largest deficiency in low visibility prediction related with severe haze/fog by single way model; The NWP including sea level pressures, RH, temperature, wind speed are also improved by CWI from surface to upper troposphere; ARI contributes larger to the predicted PM2.5,visibility and NWP improvement than that of ACI, their relative contributions varies with model vertical height and the overlapping condition of cloud and aerosols. Due to the joint contribution of RH and PM2.5, CWI's improving on visibility is larger than PM2.5. This study illustrates the importance of including CWI in air quality prediction model. Background and purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the association amongst remote diffusion‐weighted imaging lesions (R‐DWILs), imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) and total cSVD burden in patients with primary intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). Methods: In total, 344 consecutive primary ICH patients were enrolled prospectively. R‐DWILs on magnetic resonance imaging as well as four imaging markers of cSVD, including cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), lacunes and enlarged perivascular spaces, were rated with validated scales. The total cSVD score was calculated by adding up these four markers. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Results: Remote DWI lesions were detected in 57 (16.6%) primary ICH patients. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, the presence of CMBs [odds ratio (OR) 5.26, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.72–16.12], of high‐grade WMHs (OR 4.68, 95% CI 2.01–10.90), the presence of lacunes (OR 2.69, 95% CI 1.20–6.06), mixed CMBs (OR 2.93, 95% CI 1.35–6.36), mixed lacunes (OR 3.60, 95% CI 1.25–10.37), periventricular WMHs (OR 2.19, 95% CI 1.40–3.44), deep WMHs (OR 1.92, 95% CI 1.24–2.97) and total WMHs (OR 1.52, 95% CI 1.20–1.94) were associated with the presence of R‐DWILs. A significant association was also found between high‐grade total cSVD score and R‐DWILs (OR 1.97, 95% CI 1.36–2.84). This association remained significant in patients stratified by an age of 60 years or more than 60 years. The human-machine interface design is not a new problem; however, existing knowledge appears to be focused either on interface conceptual design, which determines what information at what time needs to be displayed, or on interface detailed design, which determines the form of display elements. This article presents a study on interface layout design. Three interface layout designs were proposed based on the proximity compatibility priniciple, which were on the same interface conceptual design. In particular, the first interface layout design is with the highest degree of proximity cognition and the second and third with a reduced degree of proximity cognition. They are called sophisticated, semisophisticated, and nonsophisticated interfaces, respectively. An experiment with a simple process plant was conducted to understand user behaviors on the three interfaces. It is noted that in order to provide an unbiased comparative evaluation of these interfaces the same application problem and similar look-and-feel forms of interfaces were designed. In the experiment, three general classes of tasks were considered, namely, normal control operation, fault detection (or monitoring), and fault diagnosis. Two categories of measures were used: the performance measure and the subjective measure. The major results obtained from the experiment are 1) the nonsophisticated interface is the best for fault detections in terms of performance measure; besides, this interface has the lowest mental workload for fault detection; 2) the sophisticated interface is the best for normal operation in terms of performance measure; 3) there appears no significant difference for fault diagnosis in terms of performance measures for all these three interfaces; 4) for normal operation and fault diagnosis, the mental workloads for the three interfaces have no significant difference. Overall, the experiment suggests that the nonsophisticated interface be used in practice with additional two reasons: 1) most of time in the chemical process plant today is the fault detection or operation monitoring task, and 2) it is relatively easier for the nonsophisticated interface to adapt to changes in the chemical process plant design, which are common in today's manufacturing environments. Background Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase ( IDO) is involved in immune processes such as transplant and fetal rejection, autoimmunity, cancer, and infection; however, its expression in rhesus macaques has not been fully addressed. Methods Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase m RNA and protein in the white blood cells ( WBCs) of Chinese rhesus macaques were examined by RT-PCR, western blotting, real-time RT-PCR, and flow cytometry. Results Both IDO protein and m RNA could be readily detected in WBCs or peripheral blood mononuclear cells ( PBMCs) of normal rhesus macaques. IDO+ cell frequency was the highest among CD14+ mononuclear cells, followed by CD56+ cells and DCs. No difference in the frequency of IDO+ cells between CD4+ and CD8 + T cells; however, Th17 cells have higher frequency of IDO+ cells than Th1 cells, with Th2 cells the lowest. Toll-like receptor ( TLR) stimulation significantly increased IDO protein level in CD14+, CD56+, CD1c+, CD11c+, and CD123+ myeloid cells. Conclusion Rhesus macaques express IDO differentially in their leukocyte subsets and are suitable for IDO-related pathophysiological studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present paper, crystallization behavior and glass forming ability (GFA) of Cu64Zr36 bulk metallic glass (BMG) were studied based on the crystal phase competition. Electrical resistivity and X-ray diffraction results indicate that Cu64Zr36 glass underwent a two-stage crystallization process, during which Cu10Zr7 and Cu51Zr14 crystals precipitate at first and then there are only Cu10Zr7 and Cu8Zr3 phases at the end of the second stage. Intriguingly, it was found that it is the competing phase Cu10Zr7 that weakens GFA of the Cu64Zr36 alloy, because the Cu10Zr7 precipitate is fully restrained in the cast rod when substituting Zr with 7.5at%Ti and thereby its diameter with fully amorphous structure is enlarged from 1 mm to 2 mm. Soil carbon to nitrogen (C:N) ratio is one of the important properties of terrestrial ecosystems. Here, we report a study of soil C:N ratio dynamics in wheat-corn double cropping systems based on four long-term experimental sites in China: three in the temperate zone and one in the sub-tropical zone. We evaluate effects of long-term fertilizer input on soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) by comparing three treatments: no added fertilizer (the control), added nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium chemical fertilizers (NPK), and chemical fertilizers combined with manure (NPKM). Our study shows that SOC and TN had different responses to the treatments. There was an increasing trend in SOC, even without fertilizer. However, applying inorganic fertilizers only (NPK) did not maintain TN contents at some sites. The NPKM treatment resulted in a large increase in both SOC (35-147%) and TN (33 to 10%) contents, relative to the initial values. The soil C:N ratio showed a significant increase over time at the sub-tropical site but little change at the three temperate sites. Our analysis showed similar C:N ratios (37-38) in gross input of organic materials under the NPK treatments. However, the estimated C:N ratio during decomposition was much smaller at the sub-tropical site (23.7) than at the three temperate sites (44.0-48.2) under the NPK treatments, which may explain the increased soil C:N ratio at the sub-tropical site. Thus, we conclude that variations in soil C:N ratio are not caused by organic matter inputs but by decomposition in the wheat-corn double cropping systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the potential of enamel matrix proteins (EMPs) on promoting osteogenic differentiation of porcine bone marrow stromal cells (pBMSCs), as well as new bone formation capabilities, in a tissue-engineered bone complex scaffold of EMPs, pBMSCs and porous calcium phosphate cement (CPC). Effects of EMPs on pBMSCs in vitro was first determined by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, von Kossa staining assay and mRNA expression of ALP, bone sialoprotein ( BSP) and osteocalcin ( OCN) genes. Next, an ectopic new bone formation test was performed in a nude mouse model with four groups: CPC scaffold alone; CPC scaffold + EMPs; CPC scaffold + pBMSCs; and CPC scaffold + EMPs + pBMSCs, for 2 or 4 weeks. ALP activity, von Kossa assay and mRNA expressions of ALP, BSP and OCN genes were all significantly higher with 150 μg/ml EMP treatment in vitro. In nude mice, new bone formation was detected only in the CPC scaffold + EMPs + pBMSCs group at 2 weeks. At 4 weeks, in the tissue-engineered construct there was significantly higher bone formation ability than other groups. EMPs promoted osteogenic differentiation of pBMSCs, and the tissue-engineered complex of EMPs, pBMSCs and CPC scaffold may be a valuable alternative to be used in periodontal bone tissue engineering and regeneration. Background. Bacteremias, which are often caused by gram-negative bacteria, are the most frequently occurring infectious complications after liver transplantation (LT). The aim of this study was to investigate bacteremic incidence, pathogenic spectrum, risk factors for bacteremia due to multidrug resistant (MDR) gram-negative bacilli, and its impact on mortality after LT. Methods. A cohort analysis of prospectively recorded data was done in 475 LT recipients, who were divided into 3 categories: cases with gram-negative bacteremia, cases with MDR gram-negative bacteremia, and cases without bacteremia as controls. Results. In 475 LT recipients, there were 152 (32.0%) patients with gram-negative bacillus bacteremia in the first 6 months after LT. Out of 152 patients, there were 225 bacteremic episodes, which accounted for 69.7% in a total 323 bacteremic episodes. A total of 190 bacteremic episodes were caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Enterobacteriaceae, Ochrobactrum anthropi, Pseudomonas, and Acinetobacter baumanii, all of which were the most frequent gram-negative isolates in this study, and MDR bacilli constituted 56.3%. The most frequent source was intravascular catheters. There were 70 patients with MDR gram-negative bacillus bacteremia. Independent risk factors for bacteremia due to MDR gram-negative bacillus were as follows: post-LT abdominal infection ( P<0.0001, odds ratio [OR] 0.066, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.019–0.226), post-LT reoperative episodes ( P<0.0001, OR 10.505, 95% CI 3.055–36.121), or one or more episodes of acute rejection ( P=0.042, OR 4.457, 95% CI 0.988–20.103). In the first 6 months after LT, MDR gram-negative bacillus bacteremia-related mortality was significantly higher than that due to antibiotic-susceptible bacillus (38.6% vs. 14.6%, P<0.001). Conclusion. Post-LT bacteremias caused by MDR gram-negative bacilli are common, and associated with allograft acute rejection, post-LT reoperation, and abdominal infection. The study examines interspecific interactions between Bemisia tabaci (Hem., Aleyrodidae) and Liriomyza sativae (Dipt., Agromyzidae) feeding on pumpkins and cucumbers. L. sativae density on control pumpkins and cucumbers peaked 3 and 2 weeks after adults were seen, respectively. Compared with controls, L. sativae densities observed for weeks 3–6 and 2–6 in the B. tabaci-pre-infested plants were significantly lower, respectively ( F2.00 = 22.66, P < 0.01). The survival of L. sativae larvae transplanted to B. tabaci-pre-infested pumpkins and cucumbers was 16.06%, 10.02% and 13.09%, 9.21%, whereas those transplanted to control plants were 52.20%, 36.06% and 48.25%, 28.22% after 5 and 10 days, respectively ( χ2 = 6.9, d.f. = 1, P < 0.01). Pupation rates of L. sativae feeding on control plants were 20.25% and 16.45%, whereas those feeding on the B. tabaci-pre-infested plants only 4.08% and 4.21%, respectively ( χ2 = 7.0, d.f. = 1, P < 0.01). The length and number of mines of L. sativae on the control pumpkins and cucumbers were 54.05%, 54.10% and 89.06%, 76.22% longer or higher than those on B. tabaci-pre-infested plants, respectively. Leaf positions of L. sativae feeding on the plants were also affected by B. tabaci-pre-infested. These results showed that B. tabaci infestations had a significantly negative effect on L. sativae when they were feeding simultaneously on the same host plant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Analysis of the genetic diversity among 27 different geographical populations of Bemisia tabaci and determination of biotypes of B. tabaci in China based on amplified fragment-length polymorphism (AFLP) and the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (mtDNA COI) gene sequences were conducted. In AFLP assay, the use of five primer combinations selected from 64 primer combinations allowed the identification of 229 polymorphic bands (97.03%) from 60 to 500 bp, suggesting abundant genetic diversity among different geographical populations of B. tabaci. To further identify biotypes of B. tabaci in China, the mtDNA COI gene sequences of nine representative populations from China, Israel and Spain were obtained. Molecular phylogenetic tree based on AFLP and mtDNA COI gene analyses revealed the presence, in China, of at least four different genetic groups of B. tabaci. B biotype, Q biotype and two non-B/Q biotype. B biotype was distributed nationwide. Q biotype was present only in the local region of China including the YunNan province and BeiJing city. This was also the first report about the invasion of Q biotype into China. Of the other two non-B/Q biotype groups, one was found in ShanDong and HeBei provinces, and another in ZheJiang province. The non-B/Q biotype ZheJiang population showed very high similarity with another Asian population India-IW () in mtDNA COI sequences and was possibly a Chinese indigenous population. The close monitoring of the Q biotype in locales of China where commercial plants were exported or imported, is now essential to avoid the further accidental distribution of the Q biotype. This paper presents a new optimization design methodology that is applicable to modular systems. This new methodology is called concurrent optimization design method (CODM). A modular robot is taken as a case study. The CODM is superior to the existing methods for modular robot configuration design in the sense that traditional type synthesis and dimensional synthesis now can be treated once. This mathematically implies that (i) variables are defined for both types and dimensions, and (ii) all the variables are defined in one optimization problem formulation. This paper illustrates that, in fact, optimization design for modular architectures necessitates a multiobjective optimization problem. A dynamic model for geared multi-body system containing gear, bar and shaft is proposed and a new gear element is particularly developed based on a specific finite element theory. The gear element can take into account time-variant meshing stiffness, the gear errors, and the couplings between the torsional and the lateral vibrations of gears. The accuracy and reliability of the gear element are confirmed by comparing the simulated with the experimental results of rotational vibration accelerations. A gear–bar mechanism composing one sun gear, one planetary gear and two bars is simulated dynamically. Objectives: Adult neurogenesis in dentate gyrus (DG) is an evolutionarily preserved trait in most mammals examined thus far. Neuronal proliferation and subsequent integration of new neurons into the hippocampal circuit are regulated processes that can have profound effects on an animal's behaviour. A streptozotocin model of type I diabetes, characterized by low insulin and high plasma glucose levels, affects not only body's overall metabolism but also brain activity., Materials and Methods: Neurogenesis was measured within the DG of the hippocampus using immunohistochemical markers Ki67, Doublecortin, Calbindin (CaBP) and bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)., Results: Cell proliferation, measured with the endogenous marker Ki67, was reduced by 45%, and cell survival, measured with BrdU, was reduced by 64% of the control. Combined effects on proliferation and survival produced dramatically lower neuronal production. Among the surviving cells only 33% matured normally as judged by the co-labelling of BrdU and CaBP., Conclusion: Such a reduction lowered the number of surviving cells with neuronal phenotype by over 80% of the control values and this is expected to cause a significant functional impairment of learning and memory in diabetic animals. These results may shed light on causes of diabetic neuropathology and provide an explanation for the memory deficiencies seen in some diabetic patients.
