Animal personalities are differences in behaviour among individuals of the same species that are consistent over time and contexts. The integration of animal personality into conservation actions is hampered by limited understanding of personality traits in non‐model organisms. We estimated repeatabilities and correlations between behaviours in Nannoperca vittata (western pygmy perch), a threatened freshwater fish species endemic to south‐western Australia, and, for comparative purposes, in Poecilia reticulata (guppy), a species frequently used in personality research. Each fish was measured four times for each of seven behavioural variables, presumed to reflect five underlying personality traits. Track length (TL) was used as a measure of activity; time spent in a risky zone (RZ) and time to emergence (ET) for boldness; latency to approach a novel object (LA) and time spent close to the object (TS) for exploration; time spent close to a mirror (CV) for sociability and number of attacks at the mirror (AT) for aggression. Four behavioural variables (TL, RZ, ET and CV) were significantly repeatable in N. vittata and also in P. reticulata. There was a lack of concordance in phenotypic and among‐individual correlations between variables in both species, emphasising the importance of partitioning trait covariances to infer behavioural syndromes. Significant among‐individual correlations were found between activity, boldness and sociability variables in N. vittata, consistent with a proactive‐reactive personality axis, but not in P. reticulata. Personality variation should be considered in conservation actions for N. vittata, particularly with respect to unintended consequences of domestication selection in captive breeding and release. The number of studies demonstrating the existence of personality in a wide range of taxa is growing rapidly. Although the effect of early experience on later average values of behavioural traits is well documented, very few articles demonstrate the effects of those factors on personality expression itself. One factor in particular received very little, if not no, attention: social isolation. Although social isolation is known to have major impacts on later animal behaviour, it is still unknown whether it may favour or inhibit personality expression. In a recent study, Schausberger and Nguyen (2024) demonstrated that early‐life social isolation had strong effects on adults of the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis. They show for the first time that early social isolation decreased the expression of personality in the activity of adults when tested in a social context. Interestingly, they observed the opposite effect when the same mites were tested alone: previously isolated mites were highly repeatable but group‐reared mites were not. Finally, they also show an indirect effect of early social isolation through mating: mating with a male who experienced social isolation increased the behavioural repeatability of females. Summary: Background: Recent studies have described techniques to acquire ultrasound measurements of the cross‐sectional area of the multifidus muscle to investigate back pain in horses and monitor the response to rehabilitation. These techniques have been extrapolated from human research but have not been clinically validated in the horse. Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate whether measuring the cross‐sectional area of the multifidus muscle in horses using ultrasound is a repeatable technique. Study design: Cross‐sectional. Methods: Ultrasound images of the articular process view and interspinous view of the multifidus muscle were acquired at T15, T18, L2 and L5 on the left and right sides. Three images were acquired at each location and each image was measured three times to give an average cross‐sectional area. Study 1 investigated the repeatability of acquiring images in a single session, and then on two separate days. Study 2 compared measurements of images acquired with a console (Philips EpiQ) and a portable (MyLab™Alpha) ultrasound machine. Study 3 investigated the repeatability of measuring the cross‐sectional area using external software, OsiriX. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were calculated for each study. Results: Repeatability varied from good to excellent for images taken in a single session. The repeatability for measuring the images using external software was good to excellent. There was poor‐to‐moderate repeatability for images taken on two different days and poor‐to‐good repeatability when using the two different machines. Main limitations: Population size, study population limited to a single breed, only one operator. Purpose: To assess the repeatability of various color‐measuring mobile phone applications (MPAs) on dental materials in clinically relevant shades in 1‐mm thickness. Materials and Methods: A benchtop spectrophotometer was used as a reference instrument. Seven MPAs were used: Color Analysis, Color Analyzer—Iro Shirabe, Color Grab, and Colorimeter from Android, and Color Analyzer—Iro Shirabe, ColorMeter RGB, and Optishade from iOS. Color measurements were performed on 1‐mm thickness slices of CAD‐CAM materials, Vita Enamic shades 1M2, 2M2, 3M2, 4M2, and Vitablocs Mark II shades A1C, A2C, A3C, A4C (n = 10, for a total 80 specimens). The specimens were measured at three time periods, Day 0, Day 1, and Day 7, and three measurements were made on each day, to mimic short‐, medium‐, and long‐term repeatability. The color differences were analyzed using the CIEDE2000 formula, with the corresponding color difference (ΔE00), and mean color difference from the mean (MCDM00). One‐way ANOVA, Repeated measures ANOVA, and Paired sample t‐tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: Optishade from iOS showed the lowest mean color difference among the MPAs (ΔE00 = 0.2 (SD 0.1), 0.3 (SD 0.2), and 0.2 (SD 0.1) at Day 0, 1, and 7, respectively, and ΔE00 = 0.5 (SD 0.3) for all three periods Days 0–1, 0–7, and 1–7). Material‐dependent variations in the repeatability of color measurements were observed. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant difference among color measurements using MPAs and a spectrophotometer, among the MPAs, and materials. The detection of a secondary inorganic phosphate (Pi) resonance, a possible marker of mitochondrial content in vivo, using phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy (31P‐MRS), poses technical challenges at 3 Tesla (T). Overcoming these challenges is imperative for the integration of this biomarker into clinical research. To evaluate the repeatability and reliability of measuring resting skeletal muscle alkaline Pi (Pialk) using with 31P‐MRS at 3 T. After an initial set of experiments on five subjects to optimize the sequence, resting 31P‐MRS of the quadriceps muscles were acquired on two visits (~4 days apart) using an intra‐subjects design, from 13 sedentary to moderately active young male and female adults (22 ± 3 years old) within a whole‐body 3 T MR system. Measurement variability attributed to changes in coil position, shimming procedure, and spectral analysis were quantified. 31P‐MRS data were acquired with a 31P/‐proton (1H) dual‐tuned surface coil positioned on the quadriceps using a pulse‐acquire sequence. Test–retest absolute and relative repeatability was analyzed using the coefficient of variation (CV) and intra‐class correlation coefficients (ICC), respectively. After sequence parameter optimization, Pialk demonstrated high intra‐subject repeatability (CV: 10.6 ± 5.4%, ICC: 0.80). Proximo‐distal change in coil position along the length of the quadriceps introduced Pialk quantitation variability (CV: 28 ± 5%), due to magnetic field inhomogeneity with more distal coil locations. In contrast, Pialk measurement variability due to repeated shims from the same muscle volume (0.40 ± 0.09mM; CV: 6.6%), and automated spectral processing (0.37 ± 0.01mM; CV: 2.3%), was minor. The quantification of Pialk in skeletal muscle via surface coil 31P‐MRS at 3 T demonstrated excellent reproducibility. Purpose: Compared with lower field strengths, DWI at 7 T faces the combined challenges of increased distortion and blurring due to B0 inhomogeneity, and increased signal dropouts due to B1+ inhomogeneity. This study addresses the B1+ limitations using slice‐specific static parallel transmission (pTx) in a multi‐shot, readout‐segmented EPI diffusion imaging sequence. Methods: DWI was performed in 7 healthy subjects using MRI at 7 T and readout‐segmented EPI. Data were acquired with non‐pTx circular‐polarized (CP) pulses (CP‐DWI) and static pTx pulses (pTx‐DWI) using slice‐specific B1+ shim coefficients. Each volunteer underwent two scan sessions on the same day, with two runs of each sequence in the first session and one run in the second. The sequences were evaluated by assessing image quality, flip‐angle homogeneity, and intrasession and intersession repeatability in ADC estimates. Results: pTx‐DWI significantly reduced signal voids compared with CP‐DWI, particularly in inferior brain regions. The use of pTx also improved RF uniformity and symmetry across the brain. These effects translated into improved intrasession and intersession repeatability for pTx‐DWI. Additionally, re‐optimizing the pTx pulse between repeat scans did not have a negative effect on ADC repeatability. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that pTx provides a reproducible image‐quality increase in multishot DWI at 7 T. The benefits of pTx also extend to quantitative ADC estimation with regard to the improvement in intrasession and intersession repeatability. Background: Different MR elastography (MRE) systems may produce different stiffness measurements, making direct comparison difficult in multi‐center investigations. Purpose: To assess the repeatability and reproducibility of liver stiffness measured by three typical MRE systems. Study Type: Prospective. Population/Phantoms: Thirty volunteers without liver disease history (20 males, aged 21–28)/5 gel phantoms. Field Strength/Sequence: 3.0 T United Imaging Healthcare (UIH), 1.5 T Siemens Healthcare, 3.0 T General Electric Healthcare (GE)/Echo planar imaging‐based MRE sequence. Assessment: Wave images of volunteers and phantoms were acquired by three MRE systems. Tissue stiffness was evaluated by two observers, while phantom stiffness was assessed automatically by code. The reproducibility across three MRE systems was quantified based on the mean stiffness of each volunteer and phantom. Statistical Tests: Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), coefficients of variation (CV), and Bland–Altman analyses were used to assess the interobserver reproducibility, the interscan repeatability, and the intersystem reproducibility. Paired t‐tests were performed to assess the interobserver and interscan variation. Friedman tests with Dunn's multiple comparison correction were performed to assess the intersystem variation. P values less than 0.05 indicated significant difference. Results: The reproducibility of stiffness measured by the two observers demonstrated consistency with ICC > 0.92, CV < 4.32%, Mean bias < 2.23%, and P > 0.06. The repeatability of measurements obtained using the electromagnetic system for the liver revealed ICC > 0.96, CV < 3.86%, Mean bias < 0.19%, P > 0.90. When considering the range of reproducibility across the three systems for liver evaluations, results ranged with ICCs from 0.70 to 0.87, CVs from 6.46% to 10.99%, and Mean biases between 1.89% and 6.30%. Phantom studies showed similar results. The values of measured stiffness differed across all three systems significantly. Data Conclusion: Liver stiffness values measured from different MRE systems can be different, but the measurements across the three MRE systems produced consistent results with excellent reproducibility. Background: Non‐invasive evaluation of phosphomonoesters (PMEs) and phosphodiesters (PDEs) by 31‐phosphorus MR spectroscopy (31P MRS) may have potential for early therapy (non‐)response assessment in cancer. However, 31P MRS has not yet been applied to investigate the human pancreas in vivo. Purpose: To assess the technical feasibility and repeatability of 31P MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) of the pancreas, compare 31P metabolite levels between pancreas and liver, and determine the feasibility of 31P MRSI in pancreatic cancer. Study Type: Prospective cohort study. Population: 10 healthy subjects (age 34 ± 12 years, four females) and one patient (73‐year‐old female) with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Field Strength/Sequence: 7‐T, 31P FID‐MRSI, 1H gradient‐echo MRI. Assessment: 31P FID‐MRSI of the abdomen (including the pancreas and liver) was performed with a nominal voxel size of 20 mm (isotropic). For repeatability measurements, healthy subjects were scanned twice on the same day. The patient was only scanned once. Test–retest 31P MRSI data of pancreas and liver voxels (segmented on 1H MRI) of healthy subjects were quantified by fitting in the time domain and signal amplitudes were normalized to γ‐adenosine triphosphate. In addition, the PME/PDE ratio was calculated. Metabolite levels were averaged over all voxels within the pancreas, right liver lobe and left liver lobe, respectively. Statistical Tests: Repeatability of test–retest data from healthy pancreas was assessed by paired t‐tests, Bland–Altman analyses, and calculation of the intrasubject coefficients of variation (CoVs). Significant differences between healthy pancreas and right and left liver lobes were assessed with a two‐way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures. A P‐value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The intrasubject CoVs for PME, PDE, and PME/PDE in healthy pancreas were below 20%. Furthermore, PME and PME/PDE were significantly higher in pancreas compared to liver. In the patient with pancreatic cancer, qualitatively, elevated relative PME signals were observed in comparison with healthy pancreas. Purpose: Assess the comparative accuracy and reliability of postoperative toric intraocular lens (TIOL) alignment measurement methods: Casia2 and Adobe Photoshop with digital slit lamp images (PS method). Methods: In a study of 41 subjects with 58 eyes postimplantation of TIOL, we independently measured TIOL alignment with Casia2 and PS methods. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC1,1) was employed to assess the repeatability of the Casia2 method. While ICC2,1 for absolute agreement and Bland–Altman analysis were utilized to determine the interdevice agreement between the two methods, the regression analysis was conducted to identify any proportional bias. Results: Casia2 demonstrated excellent intradevice repeatability with an ICC1,1 of 0.998. The absolute agreement between Casia2 and PS was very high with an ICC2,1 of 0.999. The average discrepancy between the two measurement methods was −0.828°, with a 95% confidence interval (CI) ranging from −1.623° to −0.032°. The 95% limits of agreement (LoA) were between −6.761° and 5.105°, indicating a strong concordance in TIOL alignment measurements. Casia2 was capable of accurately measuring the TIOL axis alignment under conditions of pupil diameters (PDs) of 4 mm or greater. Conclusion: Casia2 and PS demonstrated significant concordance in measuring postoperative TIOL alignment, with Casia2 offering a more straightforward and accessible alternative, particularly beneficial for patients with suboptimal pupil dilation. This study aimed to reduce subjectivity bias in scoring dental macrowear quantity and direction using the Brabant index, which previously relied solely on written descriptions. To achieve this, we present a new, optimized visual guide incorporating buccal and lingual scores. The optimization process involved conceptualizing and illustrating a visual guide using Holocene southern African hunter‐gatherer and herder teeth, featuring both buccal and lingual scores for multicuspid teeth. The guide was hand‐drawn using a stippling technique and digitized to depict surface details for each wear stage and tooth type. We conducted intra‐ and inter‐observer assessments to evaluate the optimized method using both the original and optimized Brabant indices. Statistical analysis was performed in R using Cohen's kappa for direction and Cohen's weighted kappa for quantity. Intra‐observer results for the original method yielded kappa values of 0.84 for direction and 0.94 for quantity, while the optimized version both resulted in improved values of 0.99. Inter‐observer results revealed some differences between an inexperienced and an experienced observer. The inexperienced observer achieved kappa scores of 0.20 for direction and 0.86 for quantity with the original method, and 0.17 and 0.80, respectively, with the optimized version. The experienced observer's results using the original index were 0.66 for direction and 0.89 for quantity, and 0.75 and 0.96, respectively, with the optimized version. These findings demonstrate that the optimized method enhances data reliability for experienced observers, highlighting the value of a published visual guide and multicuspid scoring adjustments. However, reduced or unappreciable changes in accuracies for the inexperienced observer illustrate the need for dental expertise when scoring for dental wear, even with a modified method. Purpose: The aim of this study was to provide measurements from and investigate the repeatability of diffusion kurtosis tensor parameters in the muscles of the lower legs. Methods: Test–retest acquisition of a kurtosis tensor sequence was performed in 13 healthy volunteers. Quantitative kurtosis tensor parameters were derived, and repeatability of each parameter was evaluated by muscle group and over the whole muscle through intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and within‐subject coefficient of variation (wsCV). Bland–Altman analysis was also conducted. Differences in parameter values by muscle group were investigated through an analysis of variance. Results: Axial kurtosis and radial kurtosis values from the test data were 0.63 ± 0.04 and 0.70 ± 0.05, respectively. Kurtosis tensor parameters from all muscle groups and over the whole muscle had wsCV below 15%. ICC for the parameters from most muscle groups was above 85%, with the lowest ICC over the whole muscle being 88.39%. The medial gastrocnemius and extensor digitorum longus showed highest repeatability. Mean, axial, and radial diffusivity had higher wsCV despite being lower‐order terms than kurtosis. Conclusion: This study sought to examine the repeatability of diffusion kurtosis tensor–derived parameters in the legs and verify that they could potentially be used as longitudinal imaging metrics. wsCV values from test–retest data indicated high repeatability throughout all examined muscle groups. Kenney–Doig scale is considered the international standard method for classifying uterine biopsies in mares; however, its objectivity has been questioned by various studies. In the present study, we analysed the degree of agreement between two pathologists when assessing the same set of 201 uterine biopsies, obtaining a slight to moderate level of agreement (κ =.34/κw =.57). Subsequently, we developed a numerical scale based on the evaluation of histological parameters, including inflammation, fibrosis, glandular density and lymphatic lacunae. Partial scores were summed to obtain a fifth parameter called Summation. The correlation between both scales was demonstrated (p <.0001), and their combined use resulted in a notable increase in the degree of agreement between the two pathologists (κ =.53/κw =.67). Estimating repeatability allows a first approximation that may indicate a potential response to selection of sexual traits. Acoustic sexual signals comprise spectral and temporal variables, where the former generally have lower intra‐individual variation and higher repeatability values. Studies of repeatability in anurans have been conducted mainly in natural conditions, but the stability of laboratory settings allows extended recording intervals, favoring measurement accuracy. We conducted a study of variation and repeatability of the calls of males of Batrachyla taeniata, a frog from the South American temperate forest to evaluate under homogeneous environmental and social conditions: (i) the extent of variation in acoustic properties of calls within and among days, (ii) the extent of temporal variation in the repeatability of call properties, and (iii) differences in repeatability among call variables. Variation of acoustic properties differed within and across days of recording, call rate generally increased within and throughout days, suggesting sensitization processes. Call duration decreased during these time spans, yielding constant calling effort. In contrast, the dominant frequency decreased within days but increased across days. Overall repeatability differs significantly among variables: dominant frequency, call rate, and call duration having the highest, intermediate, and lowest values, respectively. The high repeatability of call rate relative to call duration contrasts with an opposing general tendency in previous studies in anurans. The repeatability of the three variables analyzed increases within days, and the repeatability of call rate also increases throughout days, highlighting the relevance of this variable for individual identity over different time ranges. We sought to determine the repeatability of EFL in healthy adults during incremental cycle exercise. We hypothesized that the repeatability of EFL would be "strong" when assessed as a binary variable (i.e., absent or present) but "poor" when assessed as a continuous variable (i.e., % tidal volume overlap). Thirty‐two healthy adults performed spirometry and an incremental cycle exercise test to exhaustion on two occasions. Standard cardiorespiratory variables were measured at rest and throughout exercise, and EFL was assessed by overlaying tidal expiratory flow‐volume and maximal expiratory flow‐volume curves. The repeatability of EFL was determined using Cohen's κ for binary assessments of EFL and intraclass correlation (ICC) for continuous measures of EFL. During exercise, n = 12 participants (38%) experienced EFL. At peak exercise, the repeatability of EFL was "minimal" (κ = 0.337, p = 0.145) when assessed as a binary variable and "poor" when measured as a continuous variable (ICC = 0.338, p = 0.025). At matched levels of minute ventilation during high‐intensity exercise (i.e., >75% of peak oxygen uptake), the repeatability of EFL was "weak" when measured as a binary variable (κ = 0.474, p = 0.001) and "moderate" when measured as a continuous variable (ICC = 0.603, p < 0.001). ABSTRACT Objective Materials and Methods Results Conclusion Clinical Significance This systematic review and meta‐analysis compared the accuracy of intraoral scanners and spectrophotometers in determining tooth shade.An electronic search of five databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, CENTRAL) was conducted on October 19, 2023. A total of 163 studies were identified from the databases, of which 23 articles were eligible for inclusion. In vivo and in vitro quasi‐experimental studies were included. After data extraction, a quantitative analysis was performed to determine the accuracy of the intraoral scanner in subgroups using four outcomes: trueness and precision with different measurement locations. A random‐effects model was used to pool effect sizes. The pooled proportion with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was used for the effect size measure.Eleven articles were included in the meta‐analysis. Trueness with the intraoral scanner was between 0.28 (CI: 0.09–0.60) and 0.38 (CI: 0.24–0.53). Repeatability was between 0.81 (CI: 0.64–0.91) and 0.85 (CI: 0.74–0.92). Trueness showed low, and precision had moderate certainty of evidence.The trueness of shade matching with intraoral scanners is low compared to spectrophotometers, although the precision is considered high and is similar to spectrophotometers.Shade determination with intraoral scanners is not recommended. Purpose: To evaluate the repeatability of retinal and choroidal optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT‐A) indices among healthy children and compare it to healthy young adults. Methods: This prospective study captured 3 mm × 3 mm and 6 mm × 6 mm macular OCT‐A scans including superficial and deep retinal layers, choriocapillaris and deep choroid over two visits, 1 week apart at approximately the same time of day, for 22 healthy adults (18–30 years) and 21 children (6–15 years). Magnification and projection‐artefact corrected indices extracted using a custom image analysis program and individual biometry were compared between visits using Bland–Altman analysis and intraclass correlation (ICC). Retinal indices included foveal avascular zone metrics, perfusion and vessel density and choroidal indices included choriocapillaris flow deficit metrics and deep choroid perfusion density, in the foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal regions. Repeatability between adults and children was compared with F‐test. Results: Bland–Altman analysis showed that the mean differences between repeated OCT‐A indices were not significantly different from zero for either of the zones, layers and scan sizes in the two age groups (p > 0.05) except for foveal vessel density and foveal avascular zone perimeter (p = 0.04 for both) of 6‐mm‐deep retinal layer scans. The ICC ranged between 0.67 and 0.99. Significantly higher variability between visits (p < 0.05) in the indices was noted among adults than children, especially for choroidal indices of larger scan size. Conclusion: The retinal and choroidal OCT‐A indices in the foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal zones were repeatable in healthy children except for the foveal vessel density and foveal avascular zone perimeter of the 6‐mm‐deep retinal layer, which exhibited statistically borderline differences between visits. Purpose: SpotChecks is a new contrast sensitivity (CS) test designed for self‐monitoring of vision. This study assessed the test–retest repeatability of take‐home SpotChecks, in‐office SpotChecks and near Pelli–Robson charts in healthy adults. Methods: One eye of 61 healthy adults with near visual acuity (VA) of 6/9 or better (age range 22–84, mean 49 [18] years) was tested during two office visits (mean 10 [8] days apart). Each visit included high‐contrast VA, then 12 randomly ordered CS tests (6 different SpotChecks and 6 different Pelli–Robson) under the same lighting (luminance 110 cd/m2), all at near in the same eye with habitual correction. The same eye was self‐tested with take‐home SpotChecks once a day on 6 days between the office visits. SpotChecks was scored by the logCS at the highest line with ≥2 errors. Pelli–Robson was scored by [0.05 × number of letters read correctly − 0.15]. Repeatability of logCS was defined as 1.96 2Sw, Sw representing within‐subject standard deviation. Comparison for repeatability was performed with Bootstrap hypothesis test. Results: SpotChecks and Pelli–Robson showed similar intra‐session or inter‐visit repeatability (p = 0.14–0.81). Inter‐day repeatability for take‐home SpotChecks was 0.18 logCS, the same as that from the first measurements of two office visits with SpotChecks or Pelli–Robson. Inter‐visit repeatability improved to 0.15 by using the average of two repeated measurements for SpotChecks (p = 0.02) or three repeated measurements for Pelli–Robson (p = 0.04). Age showed a small effect on logCS (−0.015/decade, p = 0.02) for both SpotChecks and Pelli–Robson. Mean logCS was 0.05 lower in those ≥50 years (SpotChecks 1.84 [0.10] and Pelli–Robson 1.77 [0.10]) compared with those <50 years of age (SpotChecks 1.89 [0.07] and Pelli–Robson 1.83 [0.07]). Conclusions: SpotChecks showed good repeatability with take‐home and in‐office testing in healthy adults, making it a promising tool for monitoring disease progression at home. Summary The advent of modern data collection and processing techniques has seen the size, scale and complexity of data grow exponentially. A seminal step in leveraging these rich datasets for downstream inference is understanding the characteristics of the data which are repeatable—the aspects of the data that are able to be identified under duplicated analyses. Conflictingly, the utility of traditional repeatability measures, such as the intra‐class correlation coefficient, under these settings is limited. In recent work, novel data repeatability measures have been introduced in the context where a set of subjects are measured twice or more, including: fingerprinting, rank sums and generalisations of the intra‐class correlation coefficient. However, the relationships between, and the best practices among, these measures remains largely unknown. In this manuscript, we formalise a novel repeatability measure, discriminability. We show that it is deterministically linked with the intra‐class correlation coefficients under univariate random effect models and has the desired property of optimal accuracy for inferential tasks using multivariate measurements. Additionally, we overview and systematically compare existing repeatability statistics with discriminability, using both theoretical results and simulations. We show that the rank sum statistic is deterministically linked to a consistent estimator of discriminability. The statistical power of permutation tests derived from these measures are compared numerically under Gaussian and non‐Gaussian settings, with and without simulated batch effects. Motivated by both theoretical and empirical results, we provide methodological recommendations for each benchmark setting to serve as a resource for future analyses. We believe these recommendations will play an important role towards improving repeatability in fields such as functional magnetic resonance imaging, genomics, pharmacology and more. Mechanically driven light generation is an intriguing phenomenon holding great promise in various fields. However, the existing mechanoluminescence (ML) materials always suffer from poor self‐recoverability, low repeatability, and environmental disturbance, severely hindering their practical applications. In this work, a self‐activating ML system based on interfacial triboelectrification is created by compositing the Ca6BaP4O17:0.02Ce3+ powders into a flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix. With no need for pre‐irradiation, the composite film emits self‐activating and self‐charging ML simultaneously in response to the rubbing or stretching stimuli. Accordingly, the Ca6BaP4O17:0.02Ce3+/PDMS exhibits desirable self‐recovery and repeatable ML performance, which could still be recorded (or observed by naked eyes) even after ca. 1000 stretching cycles with a fast self‐recovery period of < 0.1 s. Furthermore, the Ca6BaP4O17:0.02Ce3+/PDMS possesses good thermal stability in a temperature range from 298 to 473 K. The developed Ca6BaP4O17:0.02Ce3+/PDMS is applicable to various fields, and the dual‐mode information storage and photonic skin devices are created as representatives. Compared to the existing oxide‐based ML materials (the ML signal disappears after only several or tens of rapid mechanics cycles), this work breaks through the bottleneck issues on the self‐recoverability, repeatability, and thermal stability, which significantly advances the ML field. Many animals build structures that are used for shelter, reproduction or to capture prey. The type of material used to build these structures is likely to influence their solidity, thermoregulation capacity and, in some species, may influence the attractiveness of the builders. In the case of animal nests, evidence for preference of nesting material has been documented in several species but, to date, few field experiments have been conducted, and it was seldom investigated whether individuals' attributes affected those preferences. We investigated these preferences in relation to individual attributes on sociable weavers (Philetairus socius) that build communally one of the largest known nest structures, using dry grass. We conducted an experiment where we presented two piles of straws, long and short, to wild individuals. We recorded 900 h of video and used a deep learning method to automatically detect images where birds were present (266 colour‐ringed individuals). Our results showed that males picked more straws than females and showed a preference for longer straws, while no preference was found for females. In addition, older males showed a preference for long straws compared to younger males. Finally, males displayed higher repeatability than females in their preference for longer straws. In conclusion, we show that choice of nesting material is not random, and that preferences are associated with individual attributes. Future studies should assess how building is associated with social status, mating and reproductive success of the individuals building, to investigate which of these factors could have shaped the evolution of these preferences. Purpose: To develop an open‐source prototype of myocardial T1 mapping (Open‐MOLLI) to improve accessibility to cardiac T1 mapping and evaluate its repeatability. With Open‐MOLLI, we aim to enable faster implementation and testing of sequence modifications and to facilitate inter‐scanner and cross‐vendor reproducibility studies. Methods: Open‐MOLLI is an inversion‐recovery sequence using a balanced SSFP (bSSFP) readout, with inversion and triggering schemes based on the 5(3)3 MOLLI sequence, developed in Pulseq. Open‐MOLLI and MOLLI sequences were acquired in the ISMRM/NIST phantom and 21 healthy volunteers. In 18 of those subjects, Open‐MOLLI and MOLLI were repeated in the same session (test–retest). Results: Phantom T1 values were comparable between methods, specifically for the vial with reference T1 value most similar to healthy myocardium T1 (T1vial3 = 1027 ms): T1MOLLI = 1011 ± 24 ms versus T1Open‐MOLLI = 1009 ± 20 ms. In vivo T1 estimates were similar between Open‐MOLLI and MOLLI (T1MOLLI = 1004 ± 33 ms vs. T1Open‐MOLLI = 998 ± 52 ms), with a mean difference of −17 ms (p = 0.20), despite noisier Open‐MOLLI weighted images and maps. Repeatability measures were slightly higher for Open‐MOLLI (RCMOLLI = 3.0% vs. RCOpen‐MOLLI = 4.4%). Conclusion: The open‐source sequence Open‐MOLLI can be used for T1 mapping in vivo with similar mean T1 values to the MOLLI method. Background: Three‐dimensional MR fingerprinting (3D‐MRF) techniques have been recently described for simultaneous multiparametric mapping of knee cartilage. However, investigation of repeatability remains limited. Purpose: To assess the intra‐day and inter‐day repeatabilities of knee cartilage T1, T2, and T1ρ maps using a 3D‐MRF sequence for simultaneous measurement. Study Type: Prospective. Subjects: Fourteen healthy subjects (35.4 ± 9.3 years, eight males), scanned on Day 1 and Day 7. Field Strength/Sequence: 3 T/3D‐MRF, T1, T2, and T1ρ maps. Assessment: The acquisition of 3D‐MRF cartilage (simultaneous acquisition of T1, T2, and T1ρ maps) were acquired using a dictionary pattern‐matching approach. Conventional cartilage T1, T2, and T1ρ maps were acquired using variable flip angles and a modified 3D‐Turbo‐Flash sequence with different echo and spin‐lock times, respectively, and were fitted using mono‐exponential models. Each sequence was acquired on Day 1 and Day 7 with two scans on each day. Statistical Tests: The mean and SD for cartilage T1, T2, and T1ρ were calculated in five manually segmented regions of interest (ROIs), including lateral femur, lateral tibia, medial femur, medial tibia, and patella cartilages. Intra‐subject and inter‐subject repeatabilities were assessed using coefficient of variation (CV) and intra‐class correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively, on the same day and among different days. Regression and Bland–Altman analysis were performed to compare maps between the conventional and 3D‐MRF sequences. Results: The CV in all ROIs was lower than 7.4%, 8.4%, and 7.5% and the ICC was higher than 0.56, 0.51, and 0.52 for cartilage T1, T2, and T1ρ, respectively. The MRF results had a good agreement with the conventional methods with a linear regression slope >0.61 and R2 > 0.59. Conclusion: The 3D‐MRF sequence had high intra‐subject and inter‐subject repeatabilities for simultaneously measuring knee cartilage T1, T2, and T1ρ with good agreement with conventional sequences. Purpose: To assess the feasibility of using multifunction instruments to measure axial length for monitoring myopia progression in children and adults. Methods: Axial length was measured in 60 children (aged 6–18 years) and 60 adults (aged 19–50 years) with multifunction instruments (Myah and Myopia Master) and stand‐alone biometers (Lenstar LS900 and IOLMaster 700). Repeatability (measurements by the same examiner) and reproducibility (measurements by different examiners) were computed as the within‐subject standard deviation (Sw) and 95% limits of agreement (LoA). Inter‐instrument agreement was computed as intraclass correlation coefficients. The threshold for detecting myopic progression was taken as 0.1 mm. Measures were repeated only in children following the administration of 1% tropicamide to determine the impact of cycloplegia on axial length. Results: Overall, the IOLMaster 700 had the best repeatability in children (0.014 mm) and adults (0.009 mm). Repeatability Sw values for all devices ranged from 0.005 to 0.021 mm (children) and 0.003 to 0.016 mm (adults). In children, reproducibility fell within 0.1 mm 95% of the time for the Myah, Myopia Master and IOLMaster 700. Agreement among all devices was classified as excellent (ICC 0.999; 95% CI 0.998–0.999), but the 95% LoA among the Myah, Myopia Master and Lenstar LS900 was ≥0.1 mm. Cycloplegia had no statistically significant effect on axial length (all p > 0.13). Conclusions: The Myah and Myopia Master multifunction instruments demonstrated good repeatability and reproducibility, and their accuracy was comparable to stand‐alone biometers. Axial length measurements using different instruments can be considered interchangeable but should be compared with some caution. Accurate axial length measurements can be obtained without cycloplegia. The multifunction instruments Myah and Myopia Master are as well suited for monitoring myopia progression in children as the stand‐alone biometers IOLMaster 700 and Lenstar LS900. Urbanization is a significant driver of the global biodiversity crisis. Turtles are particularly impacted by urbanization because of the vulnerability of riparian habitats to habitat loss and road mortality. Behaviour plays a crucial role in determining the success of urban animals. Behavioural responses to urbanization, however, are rarely studied in turtles even though many turtles are at‐risk and sometimes live in urban areas. Therefore, we evaluated behavioural changes in painted turtles (Chrysemys picta) living in wetlands surrounded by a gradient of urbanization. We tested the consistency of painted turtle behaviour in the laboratory and examined the behaviour of painted turtles from 24 wetland sites across an urbanization gradient in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We assessed: (i) aggression by measuring the number of active defensive behaviours the turtles performed in response to handling, (ii) boldness by measuring the amount of time the turtles took to emerge from their shells and move from their initial locations in a circular arena and (iii) activity by measuring the amount of time the turtles spent moving in the same circular arena. We found that all behaviours were consistent in the laboratory. We also found that as the level of urbanization increased, turtles were more aggressive and bolder. Urbanization affects painted turtle behaviour, but further research is required to understand the mechanisms responsible and the conservation implications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unidimensional measurements for estimating bill size, like length and width, are commonly used in ecology and evolution, but can be criticised due to issues with repeatability and accuracy. Furthermore, formula‐based estimates of bill surface area tend to assume uniform bill shapes across species, which is rarely the case. 3D surface scanning can potentially help overcome some such issues by collecting detailed external morphology and direct measurements of surface area, rather than composite estimates of size. Here, we evaluate the use of 3D surface scanners on avian museum specimens to test the repeatability of 3D‐based measurements and compare these to traditional formula‐based methods of estimating bill size from unidimensional measurements. Using 28 Australian bird species, we investigate inter‐observer repeatability of surface area measurements from 3D surface scans. We then compare 3D‐based size estimates to formula‐based size estimates to infer the accuracy and precision of formula‐based measurements of bill surface area. We find that morphometric measurements from 3D surface scans are highly repeatable between observers, without the need for extensive training, demonstrating an advantage over unidimensional measuring methods, like callipers. When comparing 3D‐based measurements to formula‐based estimates of bill surface area, most formulae for estimating size consistently underestimate surface area, and with considerable variation between species. Where 3D scanning is not possible, we find that a commonly used cone formula for estimating bill size is most precise across diverse bill shapes, therefore supporting its use in interspecific contexts. However, we find that incorporating an additional unidimensional measure of bill curvature into formulae improves the accuracy of the calculated area. Our results reveal the high potential for 3D surface scanners in avian morphometric research, especially for studies necessitating large sample sizes collected by multiple observers, and gives suggestions for formula‐based approaches to estimate bill size. Parental care in birds encompasses many behaviours, from selecting nest‐sites and supplying eggs with nutrients to incubation and offspring provisioning. Unlike the early stages, where offspring are passive receivers of care, chicks actively solicit care after hatching. This may lead to either parent–offspring conflict or coadaptation, or both, if there is genetic variance in both parental provisioning and offspring begging. However, given that parental provisioning is highly responsive to brood size and age, its genetic determination is questioned. In this study, we used a multigenerational pedigree and 11 years of provisioning data to dissect the variation in this trait in the Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis, and to examine whether offspring provisioning changes as parents age. We found that the parental provisioning rate was weakly repeatable (r = 0.088–0.213) and heritable (h2 = 0.052–0.158). Higher values were obtained when calculated based on within‐individual averages rather than individual measurements, and after adjusting for fixed effects. Older parents provisioned offspring at a lower frequency than younger ones. An additive genetic component in provisioning indicates potential for the evolution of parental care, parent–offspring coadaptation and indirect genetic effects on offspring traits. Future studies employing new tracking technologies, including accelerometers, radars and radio‐frequency identification readers, may help to determine whether senescence or increased experience causes the lower rate of offspring provisioning observed in older parents. Aggression has multiple benefits and is often coupled with other behaviors ("behavioral syndromes"). The level of aggressiveness is influenced by an adaptive benefit–cost ratio suggesting that benefits should outweigh the costs of aggression. Here, we assess if several behaviors are coupled in two behaviorally different populations (aggressive, peaceful) of the high‐elevation ant Tetramorium alpestre. For three weeks, we collected colony fragments and analyzed boldness, exploring, foraging, and risk‐taking behaviors. We hypothesized that the aggressive population is bolder, more explorative and risk‐prone, and forages more food than the peaceful population. To test whether (a) the combination of experiments and parameters used yields a good setup, (b) populations differ behaviorally, and (c) populations display behavioral syndromes, we assessed (a) the frequency of repeatable behaviors of each experiment, (b) the behavioral means among populations, and (c) the behavioral repeatability, respectively. We found that (a) boldness and exploring were most repeatable and represent a good experimental setup, (b) the aggressive population was bolder and more explorative and risk‐prone than the peaceful population, (c) boldness and exploring behaviors were highly repeatable in both populations, thus corroborating our hypothesis. The results suggest that boldness, exploring, and risk‐taking but not foraging are presumably coupled with aggression and indicate the presence of behavioral syndromes in this ant. Under specific ecological conditions, aggression may be coupled with other behaviors and important for finding food. Aggression is probably adaptive in T. alpestre, possibly indicating that selection favors aggression at least partially, which may counteract the complete loss of intraspecific aggression. There is a burgeoning interest in studying consistent individual differences in animal behaviour. Most studies consider mainly males, but sexes are subject to distinct selection pressures that may drive differences in life history and therefore lead to differences in a variety of behaviours. Here, we used Oophaga pumilio, a poison frog with sex differences in life-history strategies (e.g., sex bias in space use and parental care), to explore whether sexes differ or share personality characteristics like behavioural consistency and behavioural syndromes. Based on the natural history of this species, we predicted sex differences in behavioural consistency in exploration but not in boldness, and a correlation between these behavioural traits. We found no sex differences in behavioural consistency in boldness and exploration, although, we observed a tendency of higher consistency in males than females in boldness. When pooling all individuals, we found a higher consistency in boldness than exploration, suggesting the presence of a bold personality in general. We observed a positive between-individual correlation of boldness and exploration in both sexes indicating the presence of a behavioural syndrome. Background: Monoexponential apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and biexponential intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) analysis of diffusion‐weighted imaging is helpful in the characterization of breast tumors. However, repeatability/reproducibility studies across scanners and across sites are scarce. Purpose: To evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility of ADC and IVIM parameters (tissue diffusivity (Dt), perfusion fraction (Fp) and pseudo‐diffusion (Dp)) within and across sites employing MRI scanners from different vendors utilizing 16‐channel breast array coils in a breast diffusion phantom. Study Type: Phantom repeatability. Phantom: A breast phantom containing tubes of different polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) concentrations, water, fat, and sponge flow chambers, together with an MR‐compatible liquid crystal (LC) thermometer. Field Strength/Sequence: Bipolar gradient twice‐refocused spin echo sequence and monopolar gradient single spin echo sequence at 3 T. Assessment: Studies were performed twice in each of two scanners, located at different sites, on each of 2 days, resulting in four studies per scanner. ADCs of the PVP and water were normalized to the vendor‐provided calibrated values at the temperature indicated by the LC thermometer for repeatability/reproducibility comparisons. Statistical Tests: ADC and IVIM repeatability and reproducibility within and across sites were estimated via the within‐system coefficient of variation (wCV). Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was also computed between IVIM metrics and flow speed. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: ADC and Dt demonstrated excellent repeatability (<2%; <3%, respectively) and reproducibility (both <5%) at the two sites. Fp and Dp exhibited good repeatability (mean of two sites 3.67% and 5.59%, respectively) and moderate reproducibility (mean of two sites 15.96% and 13.3%, respectively). The mean intersite reproducibility (%) of Fp/Dp/Dt was 50.96/13.68/5.59, respectively. Fp and Dt demonstrated high correlations with flow speed while Dp showed lower correlations. Fp correlations with flow speed were significant at both sites. Data Conclusion: IVIM reproducibility results were promising and similar to ADC, particularly for Dt. A common separation approach for polar compounds involves coupling reversed‐phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) with hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) in two‐dimensional chromatography. The higher proportion of acetonitrile used in the HILIC mobile phase, which enhances mass spectrometry detection, encourages its use in the second dimension. Previous studies demonstrated that the HILIC column can be partially equilibrated within very short timeframes without compromising retention time stability, rendering it suitable in online comprehensive two‐dimensional liquid chromatography (LC×LC) setups. In addition, a specific number of conditioning cycles seems necessary to establish stable retention times. Here, the repeatability of HILIC when employed as second dimension in LC×LC was investigated, with a focus on determining the required number of conditioning cycles to achieve repeatable retention times. Various parameters influenced by the LC×LC online modulation system were studied, such as steep gradient slopes up to 8%, and very short equilibration times, less than or equal to dead time, as well as injection volume and solvent, which depend on the first dimension. Finally, the use of HILIC as a second dimension with tailored conditioning runs was applied to the analysis of hyaluronic acid hydrogel digests. Agitated saline microbubbles (MBs) are a common contrast agent for determining right‐to‐left shunt (RLS) by the contrast transcranial Doppler (c‐TCD). The size of the generated bubbles is not standardized in clinical practice. MBs were generated using the recommended manual method by reciprocating motion through two syringes. The bubble size distributions (BSD) were measured using the microscopic shadow imaging technique. The results show that the diameter of MBs is mainly distributed between 10 and 100 μm, the mean bubble size is between 21 and 34 μm, the Sauter mean diameter (D32) is primarily between 50 and 300 μm, and the standard deviation (SD) is between 6 and 17 μm in 80 experiments. It provides a more accurate basis for the recommended manual method instability. The high variance values of the BSD indicate that the manual method has low stability and repeatability. The results of this study can be useful for further improvement of the reliability of c‐TCD in detecting RLS. Purpose: Quantitative MRI techniques such as MR fingerprinting (MRF) promise more objective and comparable measurements of tissue properties at the point‐of‐care than weighted imaging. However, few direct cross‐modal comparisons of MRF's repeatability and reproducibility versus weighted acquisitions have been performed. This work proposes a novel fully automated pipeline for quantitatively comparing cross‐modal imaging performance in vivo via atlas‐based sampling. Methods: We acquire whole‐brain 3D‐MRF, turbo spin echo, and MPRAGE sequences three times each on two scanners across 10 subjects, for a total of 60 multimodal datasets. The proposed automated registration and analysis pipeline uses linear and nonlinear registration to align all qualitative and quantitative DICOM stacks to Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) 152 space, then samples each dataset's native space through transformation inversion to compare performance within atlas regions across subjects, scanners, and repetitions. Results: Voxel values within MRF‐derived maps were found to be more repeatable (σT1 = 1.90, σT2 = 3.20) across sessions than vendor‐reconstructed MPRAGE (σT1w = 6.04) or turbo spin echo (σT2w = 5.66) images. Additionally, MRF was found to be more reproducible across scanners (σT1 = 2.21, σT2 = 3.89) than either qualitative modality (σT1w = 7.84, σT2w = 7.76). Notably, differences between repeatability and reproducibility of in vivo MRF were insignificant, unlike the weighted images. Conclusion: MRF data from many sessions and scanners can potentially be treated as a single dataset for harmonized analysis or longitudinal comparisons without the additional regularization steps needed for qualitative modalities. A very sensitive and ultra‐selective electrochemical sensing device with high conductivity and durability was made using styrene, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), and functionalised graphene oxide. To construct a mediator‐free, non‐enzymatic sensing probe for the detection of arsenic (v) ions, a recently synthesized sensor was impregnated onto an interdigital electrode (IDE) surface. The newly developed receptors were characterized using Fourier Transmission Infra‐Red (FTIR) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Under the optimized experimental conditions, sensor showed the lowest detection limit of 0.11 ppb with highest sensitivity (3460 ppb) and a strong linear relationship in the range of 50 ppm–1 ppb of As (v) concentration. The ion imprinting technique is employed to enhance the selectivity of the fabricated sensor. The arsenic sensor is found to be highly selective in the presence of interfering species like AlCl3, FeCl3, and CoCl3 etc. The electrochemical sensor proved to be reliable and could be reused after proper storage, also exhibit a high repeatability response and maintaining of 99 % of its initial sensor response for detection after repeated use of one month to six months. This effort showed excellent results in an electrochemical sensor with sensitivity, selectivity, stability, and reversibility for detecting trace quantities of As (v) in real water samples. Extra‐pair paternity (EPP) is the consequence of the interactions between a social pair and extra‐pair males during the female's fertile phase in a specific social context and ecological environment. Although EPP occurs in many avian species, there is a lack of understanding of how environmental factors may impact its frequency. Accordingly, the relative importance of individual characteristics on the one hand, and of their immediate social environment on the other, may affect EPP repeatability and thereby the capacity of this trait to respond to selection. If EPP is an individual genetically based trait that may respond to selection, we expect it to be repeatable across breeding seasons. To check this possibility, we analysed the within‐individual repeatability in EPP of breeding males and females in two natural populations of Pied Flycatchers Ficedula hypoleuca in central Spain during three field seasons. We then studied the relationship between EPP and individual male and female traits (only some of which were themselves repeatable), as well as key context variables such as breeding synchrony and population density. Our results showed no repeatability for EPP in either sex. We found a positive association with laying date and stronger associations of EPP with male plumage and morphological traits than with female characteristics. We suggest that the variable social environment is an important modulator of EPP patterns, and that differences between field EPP studies in this respect may explain contradictory results in the same species, even in the same populations in different years. Background: Artificial intelligence/computer‐aided diagnosis (AI/CADx) and its use of radiomics have shown potential in diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer. Performance metrics such as the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) are frequently used as figures of merit for the evaluation of CADx. Methods for evaluating lesion‐based measures of performance may enhance the assessment of AI/CADx pipelines, particularly in the situation of comparing performances by classifier. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the use case of two standard classifiers to (1) compare overall classification performance of the classifiers in the task of distinguishing between benign and malignant breast lesions using radiomic features extracted from dynamic contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance (DCE‐MR) images, (2) define a new repeatability metric (termed sureness), and (3) use sureness to examine if one classifier provides an advantage in AI diagnostic performance by lesion when using radiomic features. Methods: Images of 1052 breast lesions (201 benign, 851 cancers) had been retrospectively collected under HIPAA/IRB compliance. The lesions had been segmented automatically using a fuzzy c‐means method and thirty‐two radiomic features had been extracted. Classification was investigated for the task of malignant lesions (81% of the dataset) versus benign lesions (19%). Two classifiers (linear discriminant analysis, LDA and support vector machines, SVM) were trained and tested within 0.632 bootstrap analyses (2000 iterations). Whole‐set classification performance was evaluated at two levels: (1) the 0.632+ bias‐corrected area under the ROC curve (AUC) and (2) performance metric curves which give variability in operating sensitivity and specificity at a target operating point (95% target sensitivity). Sureness was defined as 1–95% confidence interval of the classifier output for each lesion for each classifier. Lesion‐based repeatability was evaluated at two levels: (1) repeatability profiles, which represent the distribution of sureness across the decision threshold and (2) sureness of each lesion. The latter was used to identify lesions with better sureness with one classifier over another while maintaining lesion‐based performance across the bootstrap iterations. Results: In classification performance assessment, the median and 95% CI of difference in AUC between the two classifiers did not show evidence of difference (ΔAUC = −0.003 [−0.031, 0.018]). Both classifiers achieved the target sensitivity. Sureness was more consistent across the classifier output range for the SVM classifier than the LDA classifier. The SVM resulted in a net gain of 33 benign lesions and 307 cancers with higher sureness and maintained lesion‐based performance. However, with the LDA there was a notable percentage of benign lesions (42%) with better sureness but lower lesion‐based performance. Conclusions: When there is no evidence for difference in performance between classifiers using AUC or other performance summary measures, a lesion‐based sureness metric may provide additional insight into AI pipeline design. Objective: The objective was to assess the repeatability of three spectrophotometers, based on the CIELCh factors and shadeguide reference measurements. Materials and Methods: Color analysis was performed using three devices: Rayplicker, Easyshade 4, and Easyshade V. Five repeated measures were performed by the same operator, on the right central maxillary incisor of 30 patients. The CIELCh factors were retrieved and the intra‐class correlation was calculated. The Vita Classical and Vita 3D Master shadeguides were used to evaluate the respective Fleiss' Kappa factors. Results: Rayplicker and Easyshade V demonstrated strong intra‐class correlation based on the CIELCh factors: 0.98, 0.99, and 0.91 for Rayplicker, and 0.95, 0.99, and 0.93 for Easyshade V, for the L*, C*, and h* parameters, respectively. Regarding the repeatability of the shadeguide data, while Easyshade 4 had the best repeatability when using the Vita Classical as a reference, Rayplicker and Easyshade V showed better repeatability when using the Vita 3D Master. Conclusion: These findings suggest that both Rayplicker and Easyshade V are reliable devices for measuring CIELCh parameters. In terms of shadeguide references, the reliability of spectrophotometers is generally lower compared to the CIELCh measurements. Purpose: To demonstrate proof‐of‐concept of a T2*‐sensitized oxygen‐enhanced MRI (OE‐MRI) method at 3T by assessing signal characteristics, repeatability, and reproducibility of dynamic lung OE‐MRI metrics in healthy volunteers. Methods: We performed sequence‐specific simulations for protocol optimisation and acquired free‐breathing OE‐MRI data from 16 healthy subjects using a dual‐echo RF‐spoiled gradient echo approach at 3T across two institutions. Non‐linear registration and tissue density correction were applied. Derived metrics included percent signal enhancement (PSE), ∆R2* and wash‐in time normalized for breathing rate (τ‐nBR). Inter‐scanner reproducibility and intra‐scanner repeatability were evaluated using intra‐class correlation coefficient (ICC), repeatability coefficient, reproducibility coefficient, and Bland–Altman analysis. Results: Simulations and experimental data show negative contrast upon oxygen inhalation, due to substantial dominance of ∆R2* at TE > 0.2 ms. Density correction improved signal fluctuations. Density‐corrected mean PSE values, aligned with simulations, display TE‐dependence, and an anterior‐to‐posterior PSE reduction trend at TE1. ∆R2* maps exhibit spatial heterogeneity in oxygen delivery, featuring anterior‐to‐posterior R2* increase. Mean T2* values across 32 scans were 0.68 and 0.62 ms for pre‐ and post‐O2 inhalation, respectively. Excellent or good agreement emerged from all intra‐, inter‐scanner and inter‐rater variability tests for PSE and ∆R2*. However, ICC values for τ‐nBR demonstrated limited agreement between repeated measures. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate the feasibility of a T2*‐weighted method utilizing a dual‐echo RF‐spoiled gradient echo approach, simultaneously capturing PSE, ∆R2* changes, and oxygen wash‐in during free‐breathing. Purpose: Dynamic lung oxygen‐enhanced MRI (OE‐MRI) is challenging due to the presence of confounding signals and poor signal‐to‐noise ratio, particularly at 3 T. We have created a robust pipeline utilizing independent component analysis (ICA) to automatically extract the oxygen‐induced signal change from confounding factors to improve the accuracy and sensitivity of lung OE‐MRI. Methods: Dynamic OE‐MRI was performed on healthy participants using a dual‐echo multi‐slice spoiled gradient echo sequence at 3 T and cyclical gas delivery. ICA was applied to each echo within a thoracic mask. The ICA component relating to the oxygen‐enhancement signal was automatically identified using correlation analysis. The oxygen‐enhancement component was reconstructed, and the percentage signal enhancement (PSE) was calculated. The lung PSE of current smokers was compared with nonsmokers; scan–rescan repeatability, ICA pipeline repeatability, and reproducibility between two vendors were assessed. Results: ICA successfully extracted a consistent oxygen‐enhancement component for all participants. Lung tissue and oxygenated blood displayed the opposite oxygen‐induced signal enhancements. A significant difference in PSE was observed between the lungs of current smokers and nonsmokers. The scan–rescan repeatability and the ICA pipeline repeatability were good. Conclusion: The developed pipeline demonstrated sensitivity to the signal enhancements of the lung tissue and oxygenated blood at 3 T. The difference in lung PSE between current smokers and nonsmokers indicates a likely sensitivity to lung function alterations that may be seen in mild pathology, supporting future use of our methods in patient studies. Background: Patients with polyneuropathies typically have demyelination and/or axonal degeneration in peripheral nerves. Currently, there is a lack of imaging biomarkers to track the changes in these pathologies. Purpose: To develop and evaluate the reliability of a multiparametric quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) method of peripheral nerves in the leg. Study Type: Prospective. Subjects: Seventeen healthy volunteers (36.2 ± 13.8 years old, 9 males) with 10 of them scanned twice for test–retest. Field Strength/Sequence: 3 T, three‐dimensional gradient echo and diffusion tensor imaging. Assessment: A qMRI protocol and processing pipeline was established for quantifying the following nerve parameters that are sensitive to myelin and axonal pathologies: magnetization transfer (MT) ratio (MTR), MT saturation index (MTsat), T2*, T1, proton density (PD), fractional anisotropy (FA), and mean/axial/radial diffusivities (MD, AD, and RD). The qMRI protocol also measures the volume of nerve fascicles (fVOL) and the fat fraction (FF) of muscles. Statistical Tests: The intersession reproducibility and inter‐rater reliability of each qMRI parameter were assessed by Bland–Altman analysis and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Pairwise Pearson correlation analyses were performed to investigate the intrinsic association between qMRI parameters. Distal‐to‐proximal variations were evaluated by paired t‐tests with Bonferroni‐Holm multiple comparison corrections. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The MTR, MTsat, T2*, T1, PD, FA, AD, and fVOL of the sciatic and tibial nerves, and the FF of leg muscles, had an overall good‐to‐excellent test–retest agreement (ICC varying from 0.78 to 0.99). All the qMRI parameters had good‐to‐excellent inter‐rater reliability (ICC > 0.80). The data demonstrated a pattern of distal‐to‐proximal changes of an increased nerve MTsat and FA, and a decreased nerve T1, PD, MD, and RD, as well as a significantly increased muscle FF. Data Conclusion: The proposed multiparametric qMRI method of the peripheral nerves is highly reproducible and provided healthy control data which will be used in developing monitoring biomarkers in patients with polyneuropathies. Purpose: To assess the reliability and agreement of non‐invasive break‐up time (NIBUT) in symptomatic and asymptomatic contact lens (CL) wearers using automatic objective and conventional subjective techniques. Methods: In this prospective cross‐sectional study, soft CL wearers, classified into symptomatic and asymptomatic based on the Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire‐8, underwent NIBUT assessment with the CL in situ. The CA‐800 Corneal Analyzer and the EasyTear® VIEW+ Tearscope were used for objective and subjective evaluation, respectively. The within‐subject repeatability and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated. The agreement between the devices was compared using the Bland–Altman method. Results: A total of 141 CL wearers (51 male and 90 female) with a mean age of 33.6 (SD = 12.2) years were included. The repeatability and ICC values obtained with the CA‐800 device when measuring NIBUT were 5.4 s and 58.6% across the whole sample, 4.2 s and 48.8% for the asymptomatic group and 7.1 s and 68.4% for the symptomatic group. When using the subjective method (EasyTear®), the respective repeatability and ICC values were 7.3 s and 32.7% for the whole sample, 6.5 s and 30.4% for the asymptomatic group and 8.6 s and 35.9% for the symptomatic group. The CA‐800 device provided significantly (p < 0.001) shorter NIBUT values compared with EasyTear® for the whole sample (3.3 [2.9] vs. 8.1 [3.4] s), the asymptomatic (3.3 [3.0] vs. 7.7 [3.6] s) and the symptomatic (3.8 [2.9] vs. 8.6 [3.0] s) groups. Conclusion: Objective (CA‐800) NIBUT assessment provides more reliable measurements than the conventional subjective technique using the EasyTear® device. However, CL practitioners should also be aware that the objective method indicates shorter NIBUT values. Background: Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a noninvasive tool for examining respiratory distress patients. The lung ultrasound score (LUSS) can be used to quantify and monitor lung aeration loss with good reliability. Hypothesis/Objectives: Assess the reliability of a new LUSS among raters with different levels of experience and determine how well the same raters agree on identifying patterns of LUS abnormalities. Animals: Forty LUS examinations of dogs and cats and 320 videos were reviewed from a digital database. Methods: Retrospective reliability study with post hoc analysis. Protocolized LUS were randomly selected; intrarater and interrater reliability of the LUSS and pattern recognition agreement among 4 raters with different levels of experience in LUS were tested. Results: The intrarater intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) single measurement, absolute agreement, and 2‐way mixed effects model was 0.967 for the high‐experience rater (H‐Exp), 0.963 and 0.952 for the medium‐experience raters (M‐Exp‐1; M‐Exp‐2), and 0.950 for the low‐experience rater (L‐Exp). The interrater ICC average measurement, absolute agreement, and 2‐way random effects model among the observers was 0.980. The Fleiss' kappa (k) values showed almost perfect agreement (k = 1) among raters in identifying pleural effusion and translobar tissue‐like pattern, strong agreement for A‐lines (k = 0.881) and B‐lines (k = 0.806), moderate agreement (k = 0.693) for subpleural loss of aeration, and weak agreement (k = 0.474) for irregularities of the pleural line. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Our results indicate excellent intra‐ and interrater reliability for LUS scoring and pattern identification, providing a foundation for the use of the LUSS in emergency medicine and intensive care. Museum collections of birds are a key source of data on the colours of 'soft parts', e.g. legs, feet, bill (maxilla, mandible), wattles, periocular skin and, our focus here, the iris of the eye. However, subjective descriptions of soft parts' colours have long plagued their use, whether in research or in illustrations of birds. We document a case where reasonable doubt about the accuracy of iris colour recorded more than 50 years ago in several taxonomically important series of specimens of the Australian Spinifex Pigeon Geophaps plumifera is probably unresolvable. This doubt clouds the downstream use of the specimens in a complete understanding of geographical and temporal variation, and taxonomy. We discuss how ornithologists may apply methods now readily available that will enable more rigorous recording of soft parts' colours, despite many valid limitations. This especially applies in situations where existing knowledge dictates care, such as in already known zones of taxonomic intergradation or when colours known to be unusual and unexpected are seen. Repeatability involves the assessment of the agreement among repeated measurements from the same cluster of subjects, and this concept has been widely used in different scientific fields when data is structured in clusters. In the context of spatial trajectories, a degree of repeatability implies that individual trips can be distinguished from those of other individuals.Repeatability is usually assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), which is defined as the proportion of the total variance accounted for by among‐subject variability. However, where data are spatial trajectories the common approach to estimate the ICC does not apply because data involves sets of ordered spatial locations rather than single values.In this work, a novel approach based on spatial distances is proposed to estimate the ICC to assess the repeatability of spatial trajectories. The methodology is illustrated with a real case example of the flight trajectories of 36 Audouin's gulls (Ichthyaetus audouinii) moving through a heterogeneous landscape over a period of 18 days. Additionally, simulations were used to evaluate the performance of the approach under various scenarios.I demonstrate that ICC can be estimated on complex, spatially ordered data such as spatial trajectories, when using the appropriate spatial distance. Listening effort can be defined as a measure of cognitive resources used by listeners to perform a listening task. Various methods have been proposed to measure this effort, yet their reliability remains unestablished, a crucial step before their application in research or clinical settings. This study encompassed 32 participants undertaking speech‐in‐noise tasks across two sessions, approximately a week apart. They listened to sentences and word lists at varying signal‐to‐noise ratios (SNRs) (−9, −6, −3 and 0 dB), then retaining them for roughly 3 s. We evaluated the test–retest reliability of self‐reported effort ratings, theta (4–7 Hz) and alpha (8–13 Hz) oscillatory power, suggested previously as neural markers of listening effort. Additionally, we examined the reliability of correct word percentages. Both relative and absolute reliability were assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland–Altman analysis. We also computed the standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC). Our findings indicated heightened frontal midline theta power for word lists compared to sentences during the retention phase under high SNRs (0 dB, −3 dB), likely indicating a greater memory load for word lists. We observed SNR's impact on alpha power in the right central region during the listening phase and frontal theta power during the retention phase in sentences. Overall, the reliability analysis demonstrated satisfactory between‐session variability for correct words and effort ratings. However, neural measures (frontal midline theta power and right central alpha power) displayed substantial variability, even though group‐level outcomes appeared consistent across sessions. Aim: High repeatability among assemblages of closely related but ecologically distinct ecotypes implies predictability in evolution and assembly of communities. The conditions under which ecotype assemblages form predictably, and the reasons, have been little investigated. Here, we test whether repeatability declines as the number of ecotypes builds. Location: Postglacial lakes with a circumboreal distribution. Time Period: Data were extracted from studies published between 1982 and 2019. Major Taxa Studied: Ecotype assemblages from two Salmonid genera – Salvelinus and Coregonus. Fish in postglacial lakes commonly occur as pairs of ecotypes, typically with a pelagic and a littoral/benthic form, but in Salvelinus and Coregonus, assemblages commonly contain multiple sympatric ecotypes. Methods: We used a meta‐analysis of Salvelinus and Coregonus to empirically assess how repeatability varies across assemblages of two to seven ecotypes. We examined repeatability of use of broad niche categories as well as underlying phenotypic traits. Results: Within Coregonus, repeatability across multi‐ecotype assemblages did not break down with the addition of a third or fourth ecotype. However, in Salvelinus, repeatability was largely absent and independent of the number of ecotypes. Repeatability of trait frequency distributions was absent in both genera, yet associations between trait means and niche categories were evident, especially in Coregonus. Main Conclusions: These results show that repeatability can vary greatly between lineages; that repeatability need not break down as the number of ecotypes builds; and that high repeatability of broad niche categories may result despite marked differences in the underlying frequency distribution of trait means. These findings not only affirm the presence of repeatable ecotype assembly and early stages of divergence in postglacial fishes at a global scale, but also highlight variability among taxa and underlying phenotypic traits. Reliable experimental data is essential for reproducible science. As our lab has access to five instruments of the isothermal (heat conduction) type of different age and product generations, we became interested in the quality of experimental data obtained from the different instruments. Each instrument consists of 8 individual calorimeters. An intralaboratory study of the first 72 hours of cement hydration was conducted with all five instruments. The objective was to determine the differences between the available instruments with respect to repeatability (precision of the 8 calorimeters within one instrument) and reproducibility (precision between the different instruments). The experimental program comprises 120 calorimetry runs in total (5 instruments each with 8 calorimeters, triple measurement performed). Results show that the oldest instrument version with its 8 calorimeters has a stronger higher standard deviation of the heat released after 72 hours compared to the latest state‐of‐the‐art instrument model (246.7 ± 2.7 vs. 232.3 ± 0.5 Jg–1). This is attributed to the technical design differences of the instruments and continuous use over time. In terms of reproducibility, an increasing standard deviation for the heat released from 1 day to 3 days (136.2 ± 2.6 and 236.4 ± 5.9 J g–1) is observed. From our point of view, this test study indicates that isothermal heat conduction calorimetry is a robust and precise measurement method to determine the heat of cement hydration for 72 hours. The development of reliable, cost-effective molecular detection at the attomolar level on analyte-immobilizing surfaces fabricated without lithographic patterning remains a major challenge in chemical sensing technology. This issue is addressed using custom-designed adhesive superhydrophobic silicon nanograss surfaces produced via plasma etching. When applied to ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering, the nanograss surface enables effective immobilization of water droplets containing Ag nanoparticles and R6G target molecules. Upon water evaporation, the R6G analytes are confined at the edge of the self-organized coffee-ring-like stains with the plasmonic hot spots of the Ag nanoparticles, thus providing a reliable Raman scattering platform for detecting trace analytes. Even at an ultralow concentration of 10−16 m, the corresponding relative standard deviation is 17.57%. A novel plasma-enabled approach for precise interface nanostructuring, potentially leading to unprecedented capabilities in molecular-level sensing technologies, is presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the years, theoreticians and empiricists working in a wide range of disciplines, including physiology, ethology, psychology, and behavioral ecology, have suggested a variety of reasons why individual differences in behavior might change over time, such that different individuals become more similar (convergence) or less similar (divergence) to one another. Virtually none of these investigators have suggested that convergence or divergence will continue forever, instead proposing that these patterns will be restricted to particular periods over the course of a longer study. However, to date, few empiricists have documented time‐specific convergence or divergence, in part because the experimental designs and statistical methods suitable for describing these patterns are not widely known. Here, we begin by reviewing an array of influential hypotheses that predict convergence or divergence in individual differences over timescales ranging from minutes to years, and that suggest how and why such patterns are likely to change over time (e.g., divergence followed by maintenance). Then, we describe experimental designs and statistical methods that can be used to determine if (and when) individual differences converged, diverged, or were maintained at the same level at specific periods during a longitudinal study. Finally, we describe why the concepts described herein help explain the discrepancy between what theoreticians and empiricists mean when they describe the "emergence" of individual differences or personality, how they might be used to study situations in which convergence and divergence patterns alternate over time, and how they might be used to study time‐specific changes in other attributes of behavior, including individual differences in intraindividual variability (predictability), or genotypic differences in behavior. Although individual differences in the behavior of animals, sometimes referred to as personality, have recently received considerable attention, the development of such differences remains understudied. We previously found consistent individual differences in behavior in four tests simulating everyday contexts in 74 preweaning age kittens from 16 litters of the domestic cat. To study the development of consistent among‐individual differences in four behavioral traits in cats, we followed a subset of these same individuals and repeated the same tests at 6 and 12 months of age. Some individual differences in behavior became increasingly repeatable with age due to a combination of decreased individual‐level variance (canalization) and increased among‐individual variance; these changes in variance and repeatability continued into adulthood (12 months). We did not observe behavioral syndromes at any age, in contrast to our previous reports in a different population of adult cats.
