Weyl fermions can exhibit exotic phenomena due to their magnetic charge in momentum space, while Weyl nodes are usually located away from Fermi energy, which forms electron or hole pockets as the electric charges. Previous studies have mostly focused on the magnetic charge, however, the electric charges are rarely explored. Here, the intriguing Hall responses arising from the interplay between magnetic and electric charges of Weyl fermions in pyrochlore iridates are reported. Explicitly, unexpected linear scaling is observed between the anomalous Hall conductivity and Hall carrier density in strained Nd 2 Ir 2 O 7 thin films, and its slope shows a sign change approaching the Néel temperature of Nd. Theoretical calculations unveil that the cluster magnetic multipoles induce local energy inversion of Weyl nodes, which alters the electric charge of Weyl fermions and accounts for the observed nontrivial Hall responses. Moreover, the correlation between the magnetic and electric charges is further probed by voltage-controlled hydrogenation, which leads to the suppression of the anomalous Hall effect through electron filling. This work not only reveals the essential role of the both magnetic and electric charges of Weyl fermions, but also demonstrates the hydrogenation as an effective tuning knob in exploring correlated topological properties., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

The recent prediction of the new magnetic class, altermagnetism, has drawn considerable interest, fueled by its potential to host novel phenomena and to be utilized in next-generation spintronics devices. Among many promising candidates, rutile RuO 2 is a prototypical candidate for realizing the prospects of altermagnetism. However, the experimental studies on RuO 2 are still in the early stages. In this study, the magnetic responses in RuO 2 film are investigated by the Planar Hall effect (PHE). By rotating the external field (H ext ), the PHE exhibits twofold behaviors. Moreover, the planar Hall conductivity shows a nonlinear response to the H ext . These observed features in PHE resemble those in ferromagnet and topologically nontrivial systems, suggesting the field-induced magnetic response in rutile antiferromagnet. The work provides a strategy for detecting intriguing magnetic responses in altermagnetic materials, promoting further research in altermagnet-based spintronics and novel phenomena., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Correlated topological phases (CTPs) with interplay between topology and electronic correlations have attracted tremendous interest in condensed matter physics. Therein, correlated Weyl semimetals (WSMs) are rare in nature and, thus, have so far been less investigated experimentally. In particular, the experimental realization of the interacting WSM state with logarithmic Fermi velocity renormalization has not been achieved yet. Here, experimental evidence of a correlated magnetic WSM state with logarithmic renormalization in strained pyrochlore iridate Pr 2 Ir 2 O 7 (PIO) which is a paramagnetic Luttinger semimetal in bulk, is reported. Benefitting from epitaxial strain, "bulk-absent" all-in-all-out antiferromagnetic ordering can be stabilized in PIO film, which breaks time-reversal symmetry and leads to a magnetic WSM state. With further analysis of the experimental data and renormalization group calculations, an interacting Weyl liquid state with logarithmically renormalized Fermi velocity, similar to that in graphene, is found, dressed by long-range Coulomb interactions. We herein report a facile, cost-competitive, and scalable method for producing viscoelastic conductors via one-pot melt-blending using polymers and supramolecular gels composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), diphenylamine (DP), and benzophenone (BP). When mixed, a non-volatile eutectic liquid (EL) produced by simply blending DP with BP (1:1 molar ratio) enabled not only the gelation of CNTs (EL-CNTs) but also the dissolution of a number of commodity polymers. To make use of these advantages, viscoelastic conductors were produced via one-pot melt-blending the EL and CNTs with a model thermoplastic elastomer, poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS, styrene 30 wt %). The resulting composites displayed an excellent electromechanical sensory along with re-mendable properties. This simple method using cost-competitive EL components is expected to provide an alternative to the use of expensive ionic liquids as well as to facilitate the fabrication of novel composites for various purposes., (© 2017 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The coordination chemistry of plant polyphenols and metal ions can be used for coating various substrates and for creating modular superstructures. We herein explored this chemistry for the controlled release of guests from mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs). The selective adsorption of tannic acids (TAs) on MSN silica walls opens the MSN mesoporous channels without disturbing mass transport. The channel may be closed by the coordination of TA with Cu II ions. Upon exposure to light, photolysis of Trojan horse guests (photoacid generators, PAGs) leads to acid generation, which enables the release of payloads by decomposing the outer coordination shell consisting of TA and Cu II . We also fabricated a modular assembly of MSNs on glass substrates. The photoresponsive release characteristics of the resulting film are similar to those of the individual MSNs. This method is a fast and facile strategy for producing photoresponsive nanocontainers by non-covalent engineering of MSN surfaces that should be suitable for various applications in materials science., (© 2017 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Light relief! Mesoporous silica materials equipped with photoresponsive cucurbit[7]uril-pseudorotaxane nanovalves operate in biological media to trap cargo molecules within nanopores, but undergo controlled release when irradiated with light of a suitable wavelength (see figure).
