Chondroid syringomas (CSs) are benign adnexal skin tumors usually affecting adolescent females in the periorbital region, and may have calcifications. Malignant transformation is very rarely encountered. There is a tendency to either medical treatment or intralesional injection of these lesions when confirmed benign especially if multiple. We herein describe a female with a periorbital benign CS. The presurgery cytology failed to predict the diagnosis, but surgical excision was attempted with good result. Tubular apocrine adenoma is a rare benign adnexal neoplasm most commonly identified in the scalp, composed of a dermal proliferation of apocrine tubules in a background of hyalinized stroma. Tubular apocrine adenoma can be a component of various sweat gland tumors and can also morphologically overlap with other sweat gland neoplasms. Isolated tubular apocrine adenoma arising in the glands of Moll is exceedingly rare, with only 4 previously reported cases. We present a 63-year-old male with tubular apocrine adenoma of the left upper eyelid, which recurred following initial incomplete excision. Although the lesion showed focal morphologic similarity to the apocrine variant of pleomorphic adenoma (chondroid syringoma), the diagnosis of tubular apocrine adenoma was supported by fluorescence in situ hybridization studies, which demonstrated absence of PLAG1 and HMGA2 gene rearrangements seen in pleomorphic adenoma. This case illustrates the clinical, microscopic and immunohistochemical features of tubular apocrine adenoma. The recent advances in our understanding of the molecular genetics of tubular apocrine adenoma and related tumors, and how these advances shape the evolving classification of sweat gland tumors are reviewed. Chondroid syringoma (CS) (mixed tumor of the skin) is a rare neoplasm of the sweat glands, which presents itself as a slow-growing, painless, nonulcerated, subcutaneous or intracutaneous mass often occurring in the head and neck region. The clinician may miss the diagnosis of this lesion due to its rarity. CS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any subcutaneous nodules, especially in the head and neck region. The diagnosis of CS is mainly based on the histopathologic examination. This article presents a 35-year-old male with a mass on the upper lip that was histopathologically diagnosed as an apocrine variant of benign CS with squamous metaplasia after surgical excision. No sign of recurrence is evident till date during the follow-up. We report this case because of its rarity. A brief literature review and all the reported cases in the lip have been listed. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) features of malignant chondroid syringoma (MCS) are rarely documented. Here, we report a case of recurrent MCS, highlighting its interesting clinicopathologic features. Initially, we received cytology and histopathology slides (for review) of a 57-year-old woman who had undergone resection for an occipital MCS and later presented with recurrence. On reviewing the slides, cytology was consistent with recurrent MCS. However, tissue sections showed features of a malignant epithelial tumor with comedonecrosis and sebaceous differentiation owing to which a diagnosis of metastatic adenocarcinoma/malignant adnexal tumor was suggested. Due to an ambiguous histology, a repeat FNA was performed to perform immunocytochemistry (ICC) and oil-red O stains, which confirmed the diagnosis of MCS with sebaceous differentiation. Thus, in a situation where histology was inconclusive due to lack of representative sections, FNAC played a major role in resolving the diagnostic dilemma and facilitating an appropriate clinical management. Chondroid syringoma is a rare benign adnexal tumor of sweat glands with microscopic resemblance to the salivary gland pleomorphic adenoma. Cytology is rarely utilized for preoperative assessment of these slow-growing, small, nodular lesions. Definitive cytological diagnosis is also quite difficult, and majority of the aspirates are evaluated as benign adnexal tumors leading to mandatory histopathological examination for pinpoint diagnosis. Here, we report a case of chondroid syringoma of forearm, which was diagnosed by cytology and also confirmed after histopathological examination. Chondroid syringoma is a rare benign skin adnexal tumor of eccrine/apocrine origin affecting commonly the head and neck region. It is also called as mixed tumor of skin because of the presence of both the epithelial and mesenchymal components. There are very few case reports of chondroid syringoma diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). We hereby report a case of giant chondroid syringoma occurring over the lower back in a 50-year-old male, diagnosed initially on cytology and confirmed by histopathology. This case is reported for its unusual size and site of occurrence. Chondroid syringoma represents the cutaneous counterpart of mixed tumor (pleomorphic adenoma) of salivary glands, therefore it is also termed "mixed tumour of the skin." It is generally accepted that there are both eccrine and apocrine variants of mixed tumors of skin. Malignant chondroid syringoma is a malignant eccrine neoplasm that is very rarely encountered in radio-pathological and clinical practice. Unlike the benign variety which occurs most often on the head and neck, malignant chondroid syringomas are most often found on the trunk and extremities. The usual presentation is that of an asymptomatic slow-growing mass in the region of head or neck. We present here a case report of histopathologically proven malignant chondroid syringoma of scalp in occipital region, with dural invasion. Chondroid syringoma, or mixed tumor of skin, is a relatively rare, usually benign sweat gland tumor, most often seen in the head-and-neck region. Chondroid syringoma is a rare benign skin adnexal tumor, the cytological features of which have been published very rarely in the literature. A mucoid aspirate, abundant chondromyxoid matrix material, and epithelial components were suggested as diagnostic criteria. The reported case is one of chondroid syringoma confirmed by histopathology, the fine needle aspiration cytology of which yielded thin fluid.like material and microscopy revealed epithelial clusters with admixed smaller myoepithelial cells, background cyst macrophages, and only scanty chondromyxoid stromal elements. Including these cytological features of the present case among the diagnostic criteria for cytodiagnosis of chondroid syringomas might increase the chances of a definitive preoperative diagnosis and help in planning the extent of surgery. A mixed tumor is a neoplasm that has microscopic features of both epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. Such mixed tumors are known as pleomorphic adenomas in the salivary glands, and their cutaneous counterparts are called chondroid syringomas. These tumors commonly occur in the head and neck region of middle-aged men. Hyaline cell- rich chondroid syringoma is a rare benign variant of chondroid syringoma composed of cells with eosinophilic hyaline cytoplasm and plasmacytoid features, the origin of which remains elusive. Although very few cases have been reported in literature, it is important to be aware of this entity so as to avoid misdiagnosis on histopathological examination. Chondroid syringoma is a rare appendagel skin tumor. Due to its uncharacteristic presentation, it is rarely diagnosed clinically. Here we present one such case in a 50-year-old lady. She presented with a hard mobile lesion over her nose which was excised. The histologic picture is characterized by a combination of epithelial and myoepithelial structures within a chondromyxoid and fibrous stroma. For these tumors, excision is the treatment of choice.
