Intelligent forecasting of economic indexes has been an important demand for sustainable management of smart cities. Existing methods for this purpose were mostly established upon the basis of economic mechanism. Econometric models are the most general technical means in this area. However, in era of digital economy, increasing amount of big data has brought great change to traditional production. It is becoming more difficult for conventional technological forecasting methods to deal with multi-dimensional economic indexes. To deal with such challenge, this paper introduces the artificial intelligence algorithms to implement automatic information processing, and proposes a deep neural network-based intelligent forecasting method for multi-dimensional economic indexes in smart cities. Specifically, a deep neural network with three-layer structure is developed as the backbone methodology. For empirical analysis, the real-world data from "Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Circle" in China from 2012 to 2022 are selected as the main simulation scenario. Four major indexes are selected as the main research object: gross product (GDP), per capita GDP, GDP growth rate and the proportion of tertiary industry in GDP. The experimental results show that the proposal can well deal with such forecasting problem from a data-driven perspective, with a proper forecasting effect on historical data. With the steady growth of the economy and the rapid development of modern industrial technology, the problem of environmental pollution has increased. To continue to develop, it is necessary to thoroughly implement the sustainable development strategy, and we must pay more attention to environmental issues. One of the important management tools implemented in China for environmental management is environmental quality monitoring and evaluation. Environmental quality monitoring can scientifically evaluate the environmental quality of a region, scientifically evaluate and forecast the environmental management and environmental engineering, and provide scientific basis for environmental management, environmental engineering, formulation of environmental standards, environmental planning, comprehensive prevention and control of environmental pollution, and ecological environment construction. This paper will discuss the basic principles of neural network and the implementation process of MATLAB and in the MATLAB software implementation and display process. At the same time, the results of different parameters are analyzed through experiments, and the network parameters are constantly adjusted to improve the accuracy of the evaluation results. Taking the regional environment as an example, two monitoring methods are proposed, and a variety of neural network models are used to analyze each prediction method. Grain price forecasting is significant for all market participants in managing risks and planning operations. However, precise forecasting of price series is difficult because of the inherent stochastic behavior of grain price. In this paper, a novel hybrid stochastic method for grain price forecasting is introduced. The proposed method combines decomposed stochastic time series processes with artificial neural networks. The initial parameters of the hybrid stochastic model are optimized by a random search using a genetic algorithm. The proposed method is finally validated in China's national grain market and compared with several recent price forecasting models. This paper investigates the predictability of moving average rules for the China stock market. We find that buy signals generate higher returns and less volatility, while returns following sell signals are negative and more volatile. Moreover, the bootstrapping results indicate that the asymmetrical patterns of return and volatility between buy and sell signals cannot be explained by four popular linear models of returns, especially the phenomenon of negative sell returns. We then test the nonlinear dynamic process of returns. Although the existing artificial neural network (ANN) model can replicate the negative sell returns, it fails to capture the volatility patterns of buy and sell returns. Furthermore, we introduce the conditional heteroskedasticity structure into the ANN model and find that the revised ANN model cannot only explain the predictability of returns, but can also capture the patterns of buy and sell volatility, which are never achieved by any linear model of returns tested in the related literature. Therefore, we conclude that the moving average trading rules can pick up some of the hidden nonlinear patterns in the dynamic process of stock returns, which may be the reason why they can be used to predict price changes. Short-term traffic forecasting has played a key role in supporting the need of proactive and dynamic traffic control system. K-nearest neighbor (KNN) nonparametric regression models have been widely used in traffic prediction. KNN models give predictions based on the future state of traffic speed that is completely determined by the current state, but with no dependence on the past sequences of traffic speed that produced the current state. In fact, traffic speed is not completely random in nature, and some patterns repeat in the traffic stream. In this paper, we proposed a methodology called bi-pattern recognition KNN model (BKNN) which uses pattern recognition technique twice in the searching process to predict the future traffic state. Then the proposed BKNN model is applied to predict one day real traffic speed series of two sites, which are located near the North 2nd and 3rd Ring Road in Beijing, respectively. With the optimal neighbor and pattern size, the BKNN model provides good predictions. Moreover, in comparison with the KNN model, PKNN model (a modified model based on KNN), seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) and the artificial neural networks (ANN), the BKNN model appears to be the most promising and robust of the five models to provide better short-term traffic prediction.
