Effects of the number of welding passes on microstructure and properties of 2219-C10S aluminum alloy tungsten inert gas (TIG) welded joints were analyzed in detail. The first capping weld had a solid solution effect on the backing weld. The second capping weld had a solid solution effect on the backing weld close to the capping weld and had an aging effect on the backing weld away from the capping weld. The sizes and quantities of the second phases in partially melted zone (PMZ) and over-aged zone (OAZ) increased slightly with the number of welding passes increased. The hardness of OAZ decreased slightly and its width increased slightly. The larger strain distribution range before tensile fractured of the joints was narrower and the range of plastic deformation of the joints was not significantly improved. The eutectic structure and θ phase at weld toes were not conducive to the tensile properties of joints. The tensile properties of double-pass welded joints were relatively ideal. A green route is designed to gain a clear idea of growth mechanism of complex VO2 (B) hierarchical microstructures, since this kind of metal oxide has various metastable phases due to their diverse valence states. Three-dimensional (3D) uniform flower-like VO2 (B) hierarchical microstructure has thus been assembled with the interleaving nanoplates, which are about 25 nm in thickness and well-crystallized in structure with {114} planes as the dominant surfaces. Results of the systemic control experiments revealed that formation of the flower-like VO2 (B) results from a fast nucleation-growth process, where ethylene glycol (EG) not only acts as a green solvent and reductive agent, but also plays a key role in self-assembly of the resulted VO2 (B) hierarchical microstructures. Hydroxyl amount on the solvent molecule is crucial in formation and shape control of VO2 (B) hierarchical microstructures. Result of this work would be helpful to understand the growth mechanism of complex three-dimensional hierarchical superstructures of different metal oxides, which is very important to material science and inorganic synthetic chemistry. Background: Depression in the context of bipolar disorder (BD) is often misdiagnosed as unipolar depression (UD), leading to mistreatment and poor clinical outcomes. However, little is known about the similarities and differences in cerebellum between BD and UD.Methods: Patients with BD (n=35) and UD (n=30) during a depressive episode as well as 40 healthy controls underwent diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) and three dimensional arterial spin labeling (3D ASL). The DKI parameters including mean kurtosis (MK), axial kurtosis (Ka), radial kurtosis (Kr),fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (Da) and radial diffusivity (Dr) and 3D ASL parameters (i.e. cerebral blood flow) was measured by using regions-of-interest (ROIs) analysis in the superior cerebellar peduncles (SCP), middle cerebellar peduncles (MCP) and dentate nuclei (DN) of cerebellum.Results: Patients with UD exhibited significant differences from controls for DKI measures in bilateral SCP and MCP and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in bilateral SCP and left DN. Patients with BD exhibited significant differences from controls for DKI measures in the right MCP and left DN and CBF in the left DN. Patients with UD showed significantly lower MD values compared with patients with BD in the right SCP. Correlation analysis showed there were negative correlations between illness duration and MD and Dr values in the right SCP in UD.Limitations: This study was cross-sectional and the sample size was not large. Parts of the patients included were under medication prior to MRI scanning.Conclusions: Our findings provide new evidence of microstructural changes in cerebellum in BD and UD. The two disorders may have overlaps in microstructural abnormality in MCP and DN during the depressive period. Microstructural abnormality in SCP may be a key neurobiological feature of UD. In this paper, friction plug welding (FPW) experiments of 2219-T87 aluminum alloy sheets with 10 mm thickness were performed. The material flow behavior, microstructures, second phases, mechanical properties and failure behaviors were also investigated. The results indicate that a sufficient volume of material from both plug and base metal flow upward and downward is critical obtaining defect free weld. The plug thermo-mechanically affected zone, plug recrystallized zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ), and heat affected zone could be weakened significantly owing to the thermal–mechanical process. The main reason is believed as the dissolution of precipitates and the redistribution of constituent particles. The maximum tensile strength and elongation of the joint would reach 329 MPa and 7%, respectively. The TMAZ closest to the bonding interface is the weakest location of the joints. The tensile crack initiates at TMAZ close to the bonding interface near the lower surface and then propagates along the soften area in TMAZ with forming a large amount of dimples with second phases existing at the bottom. Abstract: In this study, a novel microencapsulated phase change material (palmitic acid@AlOOH) was prepared using an in situ emulsion interfacial poly-condensation method. The resulting colloidal-sphere microcapsules, with diameter around 200nm, are of core-shell microstructures. Characteristic peaks of both palmitic acid and AlOOH can be observed during their IR spectrum characterization. According to the TGA examinations, the encapsulated ratios of palmitic acid (PA) to PA@AlOOH are 52%, 57% and 69%. The DSC results indicate that melting temperatures of the microencapsulated PCMs are remarkably 50°C lower than those of pristine PA, which might originate from the strong interface interactions between the core and shell of PA@AlOOH. The thermal storage capabilities of the microcapsules are also tested. The method and mechanism of this study can be extended to design other organics@inorganics PCMs with different core-shell structured compositions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polypyrrole (PPy) nanonecklaces were facilely synthesized through a two-step oxidative polymerization route for the amperometric detection of non-electrochemically active herbicide. It has been demonstrated that dissolved oxygen can preoxidize pyrrole to form PPy oligomer bundles, which further self-assemble into necklace-like micelles in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. Subsequently, these microstructures were immediately gelled through quick polymerization of residual pyrrole monomers, leading to the formation of PPy nanonecklaces. Meanwhile, herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) was synchronously imprinted into the formed PPy and highly dense imprinted sites were generated in PPy nanonecklaces because the necklace-like structure with microgaps/pores provides the facile and complete removal of templates. The imprinted nanonecklaces exhibit the high capacity and fast kinetics to uptake 2,4-D molecules, and produce a imprinting factor of ∼4.2. Importantly, the recognition and binding to 2,4-D significantly amplify the current response by a factor of 8 times in amperometric measurements, providing a sensitive detection of 2,4-D. The molecular imprinting strategy opens a novel avenue to the direct detection of non-electrochemically active species in a more convenient, simpler and cheaper way than the traditional competition-displacing approaches.
