The adoption of DNA-based assessments for biodiversity monitoring has been on the rise. However, the effectiveness of DNA-based taxonomic assignments heavily relies on the availability and reliability of DNA barcode libraries. There is growing demand for a comprehensive understanding of aquatic biodiversity and the critical role of Chironomidae, specifically Stenochironomus in freshwater ecosystems. Therefore, our objective is to develop a reference barcode library for Stenochironomus in China. From 2016 to 2021, we collected Stenochironomus specimens in diverse Chinese landscapes using malaise traps, light traps, and sweep nets. These specimens were carefully preserved for DNA extraction and barcode sequencing. Our analysis unveiled 36 unique operational taxonomic units from 180 COI barcode sequences through a Neighbor-Joining tree and Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery program, highlighting a significant diversity within the Stenochironomus species. The findings emphasize the constraints of conventional morphological identification methods, especially for species with ambiguous morphologies. It also underscores the effectiveness of DNA barcoding in revealing hidden species diversity, known as cryptic species. Consequently, this study advocates for an integrated taxonomic approach, combining morphological and molecular data, to refine species identification and conservation strategies.

Since data update over time and space constantly, many rough set based incremental techniques have been proposed. Whereas there is less work on fuzzy rough set based feature selection (i.e., attribute reduction) from the dynamic data, especially the continuous dynamic data. In order to address this problem, an incremental attribute reduction algorithm based on fuzzy rough set is proposed for continuous data. First, some incremental mechanisms on fuzzy rough set are proposed, such as the incremental mechanisms of fuzzy positive region. Only some instances have insufficient identification capabilities on existing attribute reduction. That is, for the fuzzy positive region, there exists a key instance set. The incremental reduction algorithm updates the reduction results on the existing data by only considering the instances in the key instance set, but not the entire universe. Therefore, the incremental algorithm can quickly obtain a reduction update on dynamic data. Finally, some numerical experiments demonstrate that the incremental algorithm is effective and efficient compared to non-incremental attribute reduction algorithms.The incremental algorithm can save computing time greatly, especially on the datasets with high dimension.

A full scale water-cooled Passive Residual Heat Removal System was designed and built for a 2 MW Molten Salt Reactor. In the process of heating the water tank, the heat transfer characteristics of the condenser in the system had an important impact on the temperature distribution and the development of thermal stratification in the water tank. Therefore, the heat transfer characteristics of the condenser at single-phase natural convection stage need to be experimentally researched and theoretically analyzed. Aiming at the condenser in the system, a series of experiments were carried out. Considering the influence of tube bundle effect on natural convection heat transfer, a set of theories using hydraulic diameter as characteristic length were put forward and applied to analyze the experimental results, which indicated the good agreement with the previous correlations consequently. This study can provide theoretical feasibility and experimental reference for the design of commercial molten salt reactor system in the future.

(1) Background: Chironomids are biological indicators, playing an important role in monitoring and assessing the changes in water ecosystems. Mitochondrial genomes have been widely applied as a molecular marker to analyze the taxonomy and phylogeny of insects. However, knowledge of the mitogenomes of Chironomus species is scarce at present, which limits our understanding of the evolutionary relationships among Chironomus. (2) Methods: In our study, the mitogenomes and their basic structure of 12 Chironomus species and one Microchironomus species were newly sequenced. Combined with reported mitogenomes, a total of 15 mitogenomes of Chironomus were selected for a comparative mitogenomic analysis and phylogenetic reconstruction of Chironomus. (3) Results: Each mitogenome of the Chironomus species has the typical 37 genes and a control region. The basic structure of the whole mitogenomes of Chironomus species is relatively conservative, and the genetic arrangements stay the same as the ancestral mitogenome. (4) Conclusions: Our study enriches the library of mitogenomes of chironomids and provides a valuable resource for understanding the evolutionary history of Chironomus.

Entrepreneurial burnout is a common practical problem faced by entrepreneurs under the pressure of multiple roles. Drawing on theory related to self-identity and conservation of resource, this study reveals the mechanism between role overload and entrepreneurial burnout, as well as the moderating effect of perceived social support. We used SEM structural equations to test the main effects, and Bootstrap repeated sampling was used to estimate the indirect effects and their sampling distribution. At the same time, multiple regression analysis was carried out using Process to test the regulatory effect.The results show that role overload is positively correlated with burnout, obsessive passion plays a mediating role, and perceived social support plays a moderating role.

Background: Feeding and eating disorders related to cognitive and psycho-behavioral symptoms are strongly associated with health status in persons with dementia (PWD). Non-pharmacological interventions have been the priority selection to address this significant issue. However, the direct targets of non-pharmacological interventions are unclear and there is no consistent evidence of recommendations on the intervention of different dementia stages and the settings of intervention practice. Objective: To provide caregivers with a set of self-help non-pharmacological interventions for feeding and eating disorders in PWD. Methods: Based on the process of evidence summary, a systematic literature search was performed on dementia websites and seven databases. Two researchers screened the studies independently and appraise the quality. The evidence was graded by Joanna Briggs Institute Grades of Recommendation. Results: Twenty-eight articles were included. Twenty-three non-pharmacological intervention recommendations were categorized into six themes containing oral nutritional supplementation, assistance with eating and drinking, person-centered mealtime care, environmental modification, education or training, and multi-component intervention. These interventions corresponded to three direct targets including improving engagement, making up for loss ability, and increasing food intake directly. They were applied to different stages of dementia and most interventions were targeted at PWD in long-term care institutions. Conclusion: This article summarized the direct targets and the specific implementation of recommendations at different stages of dementia to provide caregivers with self-help non-pharmacological interventions. The practice of recommendations was more applicable to institutionalized PWD. When applied to PWD at home, caregivers need to identify the specific feeding and eating conditions at different stages and adopted the interventions in conjunction with the wishes of the PWD and professional advice. BACKGROUND Probiotics exhibit antibiotic properties and are capable of treating certain bacterial infections, including diarrhea. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with multispecies probiotic (MSP) on diarrhea, average daily gain (ADG) and intestinal development of neonatal calves challenged with Escherichia coli K99. RESULTS: Thirty‐six neonatal Holstein calves were randomly assigned to three treatment groups. After E. coli K99 challenge, calves in the control (C) and MSP treatment groups had significantly higher ADG and feed efficiency, and significantly lower fecal scores than those of calves in the diarrhea (D) group. The mean time of diarrhea resolution was 4.5 and 3.1 days for calves in the D and MSP treatment groups, respectively. Furthermore, the structures of the various segments (duodenum, jejunum and ileum) of the small intestine of the calves, activities of several small intestinal enzymes, and expression of several energy metabolism‐related genes in the small intestine segments were significantly affected by MSP treatments. CONCLUSION: Dietary supplementation of MSP had a positive effect in treating calf diarrhea; it improved ADG and feed efficiency and promoted development of the small intestine. © 2022 The Authors. Because of direct π–π interactions and excessive energy resonance transfer, it is very challenging to prepare carbon dots (CDs) with a high fluorescence quantum yield (QY) in the solid state. In this study, novel CDs which gave solid-state fluorescence (SSF) with high brightness were successfully prepared via a simple microwave-assisted method. The prepared ScCDs can emit strong blue fluorescence in the solid state, and the absolute QY of this ScCDs powder reaches 51.7%. Such a high QY means that the ScCDs powder could be successfully applied in rapid latent fingerprint (LFP) detection. The LFP detection performance of this ScCDs powder was studied in detail, and the results show that the LFPs developed using the ScCDs powder can be visualized with high definition and contrast under different conditions. This research not only developed a new type of SSF-emitting CDs, but it also proved that the developed CDs have great potential for applications in LFP detection, and this research may also provide inspiration and ideas for the design of new SSF-emitting CDs. We investigate optical force on a graphene-coated gain microparticle by adopting the Maxwell's stress tensor method. It is found that there exists a threshold gain in obtaining the Fano-profile optical force which indicates the reversal of optical pushing and pulling force. And giant pushing/pulling force can be achieved if the gain value of the material is in the proximity of the threshold gain. Our results show that the threshold gain is more sensitive to the relaxation time than to the Fermi energy of the graphene. We further study the optical force on larger microparticle to demonstrate the pulling force occurring at octupole resonance with small gain value and then it will appear at quadrupole resonance by increasing gain value. Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are considered as a promising candidate for large-scale energy storage applications due to the abundant potassium resources. In this work, a hybrid of porous Sn nanospheres incorporated in N-doped carbon nanofiber frameworks (Sn/N-CNFs) was fabricated via electrospinning and a subsequent carbonization process. As a PIB anode, Sn/N-CNFs exhibit superior cycling stability (198.0 mA h g−1 at 1 A g−1 after 3000 cycles, and the corresponding capacity retention rate is as high as 88.4%), outperforming other Sn-based materials. Such an excellent performance is ascribed to the synergistic effects of porous Sn nanospheres composed of ultra-small nanoparticles as well as to the unique and interconnected network of N-CNFs, which provide sufficient space for the volume expansion/contraction of Sn, supply efficient electrolyte diffusion paths, offer short K+ diffusion distance, suppress the agglomeration of Sn nanoparticles, enhance the electronic conductivity, and thus facilitate the electron/ion transport. Background: As the country with the largest aging population, China faces an enormous challenge with its elderly support and care. One of the proposed solutions is the development of volunteerism for elderly care. The Senior Care Volunteers Training Program (SCVTP) was initiated by the Red Cross Society of China with the purpose of training volunteers to care for community seniors. As one of the four pilot provinces, Jiangsu Province launched the program since 2017. Aims: The present study was conducted to investigate the dropout rate of trained volunteer group leaders, the characteristics of the retained trained volunteer group leaders and the activities that their groups conducted. Additionally, the exploration of the factors influencing the SCVTP's performance was listed as another aim. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed. The study used purposive sampling to select participants who meet the criteria from all the trained volunteer group leaders (n = 623). Demographic questionnaire, volunteer role identity (VRI) scale, attitude toward helping others (AHO) scale, team climate and atmosphere (TCA) scale, and volunteer program performance evaluation (VPPE) questionnaire were used to collect the data online. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the dropout rate and general characteristics of the retained volunteers and the activities. A multiple linear regression equation was developed to study the factors that influence program performance. Results: In total, 307 questionnaires were valid in the study. About 67.9%, 53.7%, and 30.0% of the trained volunteer group leaders dropped out of the program in the year of 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively. The retained trained volunteer group leaders were more likely to be females (84.7%), those in excellent health (75.2%) and with a bachelor's degree or above (87.6%). Less attention has been paid to frailty care (n = 76) than other volunteer caring activities (e.g., safe care: n = 277, diet care: n = 250, drug management care: n = 226). VRI (β = 0.118, p = 0.017), AHO (β = 0.134, p = 0.021), TCA (β = 0.459, p<0.001), and financial sustainability (β = 0.179, p<0.001) affected the SCVTP's performance significantly (adjusted R2 = 0.356). Conclusion: High rate of trained volunteer group leaders' dropout should be brought to the policymaker's attention. The characteristics of the retained trained volunteer group leaders provide a useful reference for the recruitment of trainees in the future. Frailty care may need more training by the volunteer service provider. In order to enhance program performance, a better team climate and atmosphere, financial sustainability, and volunteers with appropriate attitude and role identity are also necessary for the volunteer program. Background: The aim of this study was to detect the expression of long noncoding RNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 18 (SNHG18) andsemaphorin 5A (SEMA5A) genes in multiple myeloma (MM) patients and to explore the correlation of the expression of these genes with the clinical characteristics and prognosis of MM patients. Methods: Forty-seven newly diagnosed MM, 18 complete remission MM, 13 refractory/relapse MM, and 22 iron deficiency anemia (serving as control) samples were extracted at the Department of Hematology, Second Affiliated Hospital of Xian Jiaotong University between January 2015 and December 2016. The clinical features of the MM patients are summarized. Real-time quantitative PCR was performed to analyze the relative expression levels of the SNHG18 and SEMA5Agenes. The clinical characteristics and overall survival (OS) of the MM patients were statistically analyzed while measuring different levels of SNHG18 and SEMA5Agene expression. At the same time, the correlation between the expression of SNHG18 and SEMA5A was also analyzed. Results: The analysis confirmed that SNHG18 and its possible target gene SEMA5A were both highly expressed in newly diagnosed MM patients. After analyzing the clinical significance of SNHG18 and SEMA5A in MM patients, we found that the expression of SNHG18 and SEMA5A was related to the Durie-Salmon (DS), International Staging System (ISS), and Revised International Staging System (R-ISS) classification systems, and the Mayo Clinic Risk Stratification for Multiple Myeloma (mSMART; p < 0.05). Moreover, we observed a significant difference in OS between the SNHG18/SEMA5A high expression group and the low expression group. We found a positive correlation between SNHG18 and SEMA5A expression (r = 0.709, p < 0.01). Surprisingly, the expected median OS times of both the SNHG18 and SEMA5Ahigh expression groups were significantly decreased, which was in contrast to those of both the SNHG18 and SEMA5Alow expression groups and the single-gene high expression group (p < 0.05). Breast cancer is the most common female cancer. However, the known effective specific biomarkers for breast cancer are still scarce. Abnormal membrane proteins serve as ideal biomarkers for disease diagnoses, therapeutics and prognosis. Thus aptamers (single-stranded oligonucleotide molecules) with molecular recognition properties can be used as efficient tools to sort cells based on differences in cell surface architecture between normal and tumor cells. In this study, we aimed to screen specific aptamer against MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. Cell-SELEX process was performed to isolate aptamers from a combinatorial single-stranded nucleic acid library that selectively targeting surface proteins of MCF-7 cells in contrast with MCF-10A human mammary epithelial cells. The process was repeated until the pool was enriched for sequences that specifically recognizing MCF-7 cells in monitoring by flow cytometry. Subsequently, the enriched pool was cloned into bacteria, and positive clones were sequenced to obtain individual sequences. Representative sequences were chemically synthesized and evaluated their binding affinities to MCF-7 cells. As a result, an aptamer S1 was finally identified to have high binding affinity with equilibrium dissociation constant (K d) value of 29.9 ± 6.0 nM. FAM-labeled aptamer S1 induced fluorescence shift in MCF-7 cells but not in MCF-10A human mammary epithelial cells, or MDA-MB-453 and MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells. Furthermore, result of cell imaging observed from laser confocal fluorescence microscope showed that MCF-7 cells exhibited stronger fluorescence signal resulted from Cy5-labeled aptamer S1 than MCF-10A cells. The above findings suggested that S1 may be a specificity and selectivity aptamer for MCF-7 cells and useful for the breast cancer detection and diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Under the condition of drying and wetting circulation, ordinary concrete, modified concrete containing fly ash, and double-admixture concrete containing fly ash and polypropylene fiber were corroded in the solution of Na2SO4 and (NH4)2SO4. The sulfate concentration of the solution was designed to be 1000 g/L. The compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of the concrete were tested after different number of drying and wetting cycles (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10). The results indicate that the strength of concrete increases in the early stages of corrosion and decreases gradually later. The admixture significantly improves the resistance to sulfate erosion of the modified concrete, while polypropylene fiber plays a less important role on anticorrosion properties. When suffered 10 times of drying and wetting cycle, the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of modified concrete increase by 28% and 19%, respectively.
