The diagnosis of depression or anxiety is often difficult to establish in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) as many physical symptoms are shared. There is no consensus on a screening tool for depression and anxiety in patients with COPD. The aim of this systematic review is to review screening tools for depression and anxiety suitable for application among patients with COPD in the clinical setting. A systematic review was made using predefined search terms and eligibility criteria. Of 274 initially screened articles, seven studies were found eligible. Three depression screening tools (BASDEC, BDI-II and HADS-D) had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity >85%. The best performing anxiety screening tool (GAI) had a sensitivity of 86% and a specificity of 78%. Three screening tools had acceptable psychometric properties according to sensitivity and specificity to detect depression among patients with COPD, but the screening tools for anxiety were of less quality. This article provides an overview of a mental skills intervention program in an elite sport school for student-athletes. Initially, we describe the context of mental skills in youth sport and schools. After outlining the background of the authors and subsequently describing the context of an Estonian elite sport school, we will outline an intervention program conducted with 10th grade student-athletes with a specific example of one workshop. We conclude by reflecting on experiences of the program and the importance of working within the environment, developing flexibility and patience, practicing ongoing self-reflection, and being open to asking and receiving feedback to work effectively in an elite sport school. The purpose of this scoping review was to provide an overview of studies concerning the mental health (MH) of elite athletes and to provide a methodological, conceptual, and applied overview of factors affecting elite athletes' MH. A total of nine reviews and 43 empirical studies were evaluated and are reported in three sections: sample characteristics, research design, and factors affecting elite athletes' MH. These factors were grouped into risk and protective factors and divided into a personal and sport-environmental domain. The studies used quantitative (84%), qualitative (11%), and mixed-method (5%) designs and examined a wide range of sports in different countries. Our review shows that researchers have predominantly examined the prevalence of athletes' mental ill-health (e.g. depression) and the related factors compromising MH. Potential protective factors such as the feeling of autonomy, positive relations in sport and private life, and adequate recovery were highlighted in the qualitative studies. The discussion appraises the findings through a critical lens, focuses on the current state of the research area and the MH definition, limitations, suggested practical implications (e.g. to provide MH literacy to both athletes and coaches), and future research directions (e.g. examining environments that foster elite athletes' MH). Professional soccer is big business and high politics. The primary concern of professional clubs is achieving good results and winning the next game. Integrating sport psychology is a lengthy process, and in order to succeed in professional sports, there is a need for a stable environment. For practitioners to be effective in professional sports organizations, they need to understand various levels of organizational culture. This article provides an overview of a sport psychology program in a Danish professional soccer club and personal experiences, as well as professional reflections on integrating self-reflexivity and cultural sensitivity into the practitioner's philosophy.
