Third Culture Kids (TCK) are generally considered to be children who spend a significant period living outside of their home country but reside only temporarily in one or more host country/ies. TCKs' upbringing, it is argued, may lead to a number of negative psychological outcomes including depression, anxiety, and identity and attachment issues. This quantitative study based on a total of 489 participants compares the self-report responses of adults who had been TCKs with those of non-TCK adults, on the measures of ethnic identity, wellbeing, loneliness, attachment, resilience, and self-concept clarity. Results indicate that TCK adults had a weaker ethnic identity, greater resilience, and were less comfortable forming close relationships than non-TCK adults. Among TCK adults, having siblings was associated with reduced attachment anxiety and greater resilience, while practising a religion was related to increased ethnic identity. Findings indicate the need to raise awareness among parents, teachers, and counsellors about the difficulties that TCKs might face.

Introduction: The global coronavirus pandemic and the governmental restrictions to prevent the virus from spreading have generated anxiety, impacting people's well-being. Former research suggested a positive impact of pets on their owner's well-being, however little research has been conducted within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in which isolation measures and restrictions were implemented in many countries. Objective: This cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the influence of pets on people's well-being, social connectedness, coronavirus anxiety, and the relationship of pet attachment on wellbeing during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Participants (N=72) were opportunistically recruited online across several countries. Data was analyzed using a MANOVA and linear regression. Results: The results indicated that there were no significant differences between pet owners and non-pet owners in terms of well-being, social connectedness, and coronavirus anxiety. Furthermore, a statistically significant relationship between higher pet attachment and greater well-being was not found. Implications: Future research should focus on greater sample sizes and longitudinal data, with a focus on how pet-related interventions may improve well-being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Work motivation is important with regard to many organizational outcomes, including employee mental health and productivity. The Japanese workforce suffers from low levels of work motivation, associated with poor mental health and compromised productivity. One established measure of work motivation is the Work Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Scale (WEIMS), based on the Self‐Determination Theory (SDT). However, the Japanese version of WEIMS (JWEIMS) has yet to be developed. Likewise, the Japanese version of the short form WEIMS (SWEIMS) does not exist, either (JSWEIMS). This study aimed to validate JWEIMS and JSWEIMS. Japanese employees (n = 165) responded to JWEIMS, and the data were analyzed through a minimum average partial, parallel analysis, and exploratory factor analysis with the internal consistencies identified. Both JWEIMS and JSWEIMS demonstrated a three‐factor structure. Internal consistencies were high. In both versions, more intrinsic types of motivation were categorized as one factor. JWEIMS and JSWEIMS are the only work motivation scales established on SDT in Japanese. The factor structure difference from the original scales highlights the collectivistic and success‐driven nature of Japanese culture, relative to Canadian and UK cultures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
