This paper first divides knowledge resources into internal knowledge and knowledge spillover from the dual perspective of inside and outside the region. Then, a panel threshold regression model is constructed by using the panel data from 30 provincial high‐tech industries in China during the 2009–2019 period using the intellectual property protection intensity as the threshold variable, and the nonlinear impact of the interaction between internal knowledge and knowledge spillover on the patent quality in the high‐tech industry is empirically explored. The results show the following. (1) The interaction between internal knowledge and knowledge spillover has a significant nonlinear effect on the patent quality in China's provincial high‐tech industry. There is a double‐threshold effect with the intellectual property protection intensity as the threshold variable. (2) As the threshold value of the intellectual property protection intensity increases, the promotion effect of the interaction between internal knowledge and knowledge spillover on the patent quality first increases and then decreases. (3) The spatiotemporal heterogeneity of the intellectual property protection intensity is obvious in all regions in China. (4) Internal knowledge, the infrastructure construction level, and the human capital level have significant positive effects on the patent quality, while knowledge spillover and the opening‐up level have significant negative effects. The green technology innovation system is a fundamental method for China to achieve its goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Clarifying the relationship between two-way foreign direct investment (FDI) synergy and regional green technology innovation is key to the green transformation and sustainable development of regional innovation systems. Based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2009 to 2020, a threshold-panel-regression technique is used. Command-controlled environmental regulation (CER), market-incentive environmental regulation (MER), and public-participation environmental regulation (PER) are taken as threshold variables, and the threshold effect of two-way FDI synergy on regional green technology innovation under heterogeneous environmental regulation is empirically explored. The results show the following. (i) The effects of two-way FDI synergy on regional green technology innovation exhibit significant threshold characteristics with heterogeneous environmental regulation as a double threshold. (ii) As the threshold values of CER and PER increase, the promoting effect of two-way FDI synergy on regional green technology innovation first increases and then decreases. (iii) As the MER threshold value increases, the promoting effect of two-way FDI synergy on regional green technology innovation continues to increase. (iv) Under the medium-threshold condition of PER, the promoting effect of two-way FDI synergy reaches its greatest value. (v) The intensity of intellectual property protection, the number of regional innovation institutions, and the level of transportation infrastructure all have significant positive effects on regional green technology innovation, and the number of regional innovation institutions exhibits the greatest promoting effect. This study provides new insights into two-way FDI synergy and methods to promote green technology innovation, and these findings can help the government formulate future policies and strategies to promote regional green technology innovation. The green transformation of heavily polluting companies is essential for sustainable development. This study investigated the direct effects of environmental regulation on two types of green technology innovations at the microlevel and explored the moderating effects of three levels of firm supervision—government, public, and internal. Analyzing a panel of China's heavily polluting companies during 2011–2020, we find that environmental regulation inhibits both types of green technology innovation. However, the degree of such inhibition varies with different moderators. Specifically, lower environmental pressure and better internal corporate controls can weaken or even reverse the inhibition of green invention innovation, while higher media attention can weaken the inhibition of green utility-model innovation. Our findings thus extend the literature on the scenarios of environmental regulation by revealing the heterogeneous moderating effects of government-, public-, and firm-level factors on two types of green innovation. A small-world simulation model of a regional innovation system combining the strength of the intersubject relationship of the regional innovation system with the loosely coupled system is constructed. We use a simulation to observe knowledge flow within the regional innovation system under relationships of varying strength. The results show that when the relationship between the subjects of the regional innovation system reaches a certain strength, the system will exhibit high module independence and high network integrity, forming a loosely coupled system. The knowledge flow in the system exhibits the emergence of a fast flow rate, a high mean value and little variance. As the length of time between product renewals decreases, the enterprises that make innovative products face new challenges. The production cost structure of innovative products can be changed by collecting product returns, which can be economically valuable for enterprises. Enterprises face both production and demand randomness; hence, it is important to improve the traditional optimal production decision-making model that considers the randomness of demand only. This paper divides innovative products into structural innovation products and improved innovation products. The paper studies the optimal single-period production decision between reused parts and conventional new parts in complementary and substitute relationships. It further gives the analytical expressions for satisfying the optimal production and provides some numerical examples. The research results indicate that when producing innovative products, whether based on structural or improved innovation, with the variance of the quantity of the recycled parts increasing, the optimal purchase quantity of the conventional parts will increase but the expected profits for the innovative products will decrease. With integrated substitution and complementation based on improved innovation, enhancing the fluctuation in the number of recycled parts has a greater impact on the optimal purchase quantity of the substitute conventional parts than that of the complementary parts.
