This comprehensive study evaluates the performance of OpenAI's o1-preview large language model across a diverse array of complex reasoning tasks, spanning multiple domains, including computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, medicine, linguistics, and social sciences. Through rigorous testing, o1-preview demonstrated remarkable capabilities, often achieving human-level or superior performance in areas ranging from coding challenges to scientific reasoning and from language processing to creative problem-solving. Key findings include: -83.3% success rate in solving complex competitive programming problems, surpassing many human experts. -Superior ability in generating coherent and accurate radiology reports, outperforming other evaluated models. -100% accuracy in high school-level mathematical reasoning tasks, providing detailed step-by-step solutions. -Advanced natural language inference capabilities across general and specialized domains like medicine. -Impressive performance in chip design tasks, outperforming specialized models in areas such as EDA script generation and bug analysis. -Remarkable proficiency in anthropology and geology, demonstrating deep understanding and reasoning in these specialized fields. -Strong capabilities in quantitative investing. O1 has comprehensive financial knowledge and statistical modeling skills. -Effective performance in social media analysis, including sentiment analysis and emotion recognition. The model excelled particularly in tasks requiring intricate reasoning and knowledge integration across various fields. While some limitations were observed, including occasional errors on simpler problems and challenges with certain highly specialized concepts, the overall results indicate significant progress towards artificial general intelligence.

In this report, we introduce the Qwen2.5-Coder series, a significant upgrade from its predecessor, CodeQwen1.5. This series includes two models: Qwen2.5-Coder-1.5B and Qwen2.5-Coder-7B. As a code-specific model, Qwen2.5-Coder is built upon the Qwen2.5 architecture and continues pretrained on a vast corpus of over 5.5 trillion tokens. Through meticulous data cleaning, scalable synthetic data generation, and balanced data mixing, Qwen2.5-Coder demonstrates impressive code generation capabilities while retaining general versatility. The model has been evaluated on a wide range of code-related tasks, achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance across more than 10 benchmarks, including code generation, completion, reasoning, and repair, consistently outperforming larger models of the same model size. We believe that the release of the Qwen2.5-Coder series will not only push the boundaries of research in code intelligence but also, through its permissive licensing, encourage broader adoption by developers in real-world applications.

Conversational recommender systems (CRSs) are able to elicit user preferences through multi-turn dialogues. They typically incorporate external knowledge and pre-trained language models to capture the dialogue context. Most CRS approaches, trained on benchmark datasets, assume that the standard items and responses in these benchmarks are optimal. However, they overlook that users may express negative emotions with the standard items and may not feel emotionally engaged by the standard responses. This issue leads to a tendency to replicate the logic of recommenders in the dataset instead of aligning with user needs. To remedy this misalignment, we introduce empathy within a CRS. With empathy we refer to a system's ability to capture and express emotions. We propose an empathetic conversational recommender (ECR) framework. ECR contains two main modules: emotion-aware item recommendation and emotion-aligned response generation. Specifically, we employ user emotions to refine user preference modeling for accurate recommendations. To generate human-like emotional responses, ECR applies retrieval-augmented prompts to fine-tune a pre-trained language model aligning with emotions and mitigating hallucination. To address the challenge of insufficient supervision labels, we enlarge our empathetic data using emotion labels annotated by large language models and emotional reviews collected from external resources. We propose novel evaluation metrics to capture user satisfaction in real-world CRS scenarios. Our experiments on the ReDial dataset validate the efficacy of our framework in enhancing recommendation accuracy and improving user satisfaction.

This study investigates the application of machine/deep learning to classify snoring sounds excited at different levels of the upper airway in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using data from drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE). The snoring sounds of 39 subjects were analyzed and labeled according to the Velum, Oropharynx, Tongue Base, and Epiglottis (VOTE) classification system. The dataset, comprising 5,173 one-second segments, was used to train and test models, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM), and ResNet-50. The ResNet-50, a convolutional neural network (CNN), showed the best overall performance in classifying snoring acoustics, particularly in identifying multi-level obstructions. The study emphasizes the potential of integrating snoring acoustics with deep learning to improve the diagnosis and treatment of OSA. However, challenges such as limited sample size, data imbalance, and differences between pharmacologically induced and natural snoring sounds were noted, suggesting further research to enhance model accuracy and generalizability.

Continuum robots can be miniaturized to just a few millimeters in diameter. Among these, notched tubular continuum robots (NTCR) show great potential in many delicate applications. Existing works in robotic modeling focus on kinematics and dynamics but still face challenges in reproducing the robot's morphology -- a significant factor that can expand the research landscape of continuum robots, especially for those with asymmetric continuum structures. This paper proposes a dual stereo vision-based method for the three-dimensional morphological reconstruction of millimeter-scale NTCRs. The method employs two oppositely located stationary binocular cameras to capture the point cloud of the NTCR, then utilizes predefined geometry as a reference for the KD tree method to relocate the capture point clouds, resulting in a morphologically correct NTCR despite the low-quality raw point cloud collection. The method has been proved feasible for an NTCR with a 3.5 mm diameter, capturing 14 out of 16 notch features, with the measurements generally centered around the standard of 1.5 mm, demonstrating the capability of revealing morphological details. Discrete diffusion models have gained increasing attention for their ability to model complex distributions with tractable sampling and inference. However, the error analysis for discrete diffusion models remains less well-understood. In this work, we propose a comprehensive framework for the error analysis of discrete diffusion models based on L\'evy-type stochastic integrals. By generalizing the Poisson random measure to that with a time-independent and state-dependent intensity, we rigorously establish a stochastic integral formulation of discrete diffusion models and provide the corresponding change of measure theorems that are intriguingly analogous to It\^o integrals and Girsanov's theorem for their continuous counterparts. Our framework unifies and strengthens the current theoretical results on discrete diffusion models and obtains the first error bound for the $\tau$-leaping scheme in KL divergence. With error sources clearly identified, our analysis gives new insight into the mathematical properties of discrete diffusion models and offers guidance for the design of efficient and accurate algorithms for real-world discrete diffusion model applications.

With the increasing prevalence of graph-structured data, multi-view graph clustering has been widely used in various downstream applications. Existing approaches primarily rely on a unified message passing mechanism, which significantly enhances clustering performance. Nevertheless, this mechanism limits its applicability to heterophilous situations, as it is fundamentally predicated on the assumption of homophily, i.e., the connected nodes often belong to the same class. In reality, this assumption does not always hold; a moderately or even mildly homophilous graph is more common than a fully homophilous one due to inevitable heterophilous information in the graph. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel SiMilarity-enhanced Homophily for Multi-view Heterophilous Graph Clustering (SMHGC) approach. By analyzing the relationship between similarity and graph homophily, we propose to enhance the homophily by introducing three similarity terms, i.e., neighbor pattern similarity, node feature similarity, and multi-view global similarity, in a label-free manner. Then, a consensus-based inter- and intra-view fusion paradigm is proposed to fuse the improved homophilous graph from different views and utilize them for clustering. The state-of-the-art experimental results on both multi-view heterophilous and homophilous datasets collectively demonstrate the strong capacity of similarity for unsupervised multi-view heterophilous graph learning. Additionally, the consistent performance across semi-synthetic datasets with varying levels of homophily serves as further evidence of SMHGC's resilience to heterophily.

Recently, there is growing demand for effective and efficient long sequence modeling, with State Space Models (SSMs) proving to be effective for long sequence tasks. To further reduce energy consumption, SSMs can be adapted to Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) using spiking functions. However, current spiking-formalized SSMs approaches still rely on float-point matrix-vector multiplication during inference, undermining SNNs' energy advantage. In this work, we address the efficiency and performance challenges of long sequence learning in SNNs simultaneously. First, we propose a decoupled reset method for parallel spiking neuron training, reducing the typical Leaky Integrate-and-Fire (LIF) model's training time from $O(L^2)$ to $O(L\log L)$, effectively speeding up the training by $6.57 \times$ to $16.50 \times$ on sequence lengths $1,024$ to $32,768$. To our best knowledge, this is the first time that parallel computation with a reset mechanism is implemented achieving equivalence to its sequential counterpart. Secondly, to capture long-range dependencies, we propose a Parallel Resonate and Fire (PRF) neuron, which leverages an oscillating membrane potential driven by a resonate mechanism from a differentiable reset function in the complex domain. The PRF enables efficient long sequence learning while maintaining parallel training. Finally, we demonstrate that the proposed spike-driven architecture using PRF achieves performance comparable to Structured SSMs (S4), with two orders of magnitude reduction in energy consumption, outperforming Transformer on Long Range Arena tasks.

Semantic communication is a promising technology to improve communication efficiency by transmitting only the semantic information of the source data. However, traditional semantic communication methods primarily focus on data reconstruction tasks, which may not be efficient for emerging generative tasks such as text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis. To address this limitation, this paper develops a novel generative semantic communication framework for TTS synthesis, leveraging generative artificial intelligence technologies. Firstly, we utilize a pre-trained large speech model called WavLM and the residual vector quantization method to construct two semantic knowledge bases (KBs) at the transmitter and receiver, respectively. The KB at the transmitter enables effective semantic extraction, while the KB at the receiver facilitates lifelike speech synthesis. Then, we employ a transformer encoder and a diffusion model to achieve efficient semantic coding without introducing significant communication overhead. Frameworks and DSLs auto-generating code have traditionally relied on human experts developing them to have in place rigorous methods to assure the legality of the applied code transformations. Machine Learning (ML) is gaining wider adoption as a means to auto-generate code optimised for the hardware target. However, ML solutions, and in particular black-box DNNs, provide no such guarantees on legality. In this paper we propose a library, Tadashi, which leverages the polyhedral model to empower researchers seeking to curate datasets crucial for applying ML in code-generation. Tadashi provides the ability to reliably and practically check the legality of candidate transformations on polyhedral schedules applied on a baseline reference code. We provide a proof that our library guarantees the legality of generated transformations, and demonstrate its lightweight practical cost. Diffusion models have revolutionized image generation, and their extension to video generation has shown promise. However, current video diffusion models~(VDMs) rely on a scalar timestep variable applied at the clip level, which limits their ability to model complex temporal dependencies needed for various tasks like image-to-video generation. To address this limitation, we propose a frame-aware video diffusion model~(FVDM), which introduces a novel vectorized timestep variable~(VTV). Unlike conventional VDMs, our approach allows each frame to follow an independent noise schedule, enhancing the model's capacity to capture fine-grained temporal dependencies. FVDM's flexibility is demonstrated across multiple tasks, including standard video generation, image-to-video generation, video interpolation, and long video synthesis. Through a diverse set of VTV configurations, we achieve superior quality in generated videos, overcoming challenges such as catastrophic forgetting during fine-tuning and limited generalizability in zero-shot methods.Our empirical evaluations show that FVDM outperforms state-of-the-art methods in video generation quality, while also excelling in extended tasks. Edge detection is typically viewed as a pixel-level classification problem mainly addressed by discriminative methods. Recently, generative edge detection methods, especially diffusion model based solutions, are initialized in the edge detection task. Despite great potential, the retraining of task-specific designed modules and multi-step denoising inference limits their broader applications. Upon closer investigation, we speculate that part of the reason is the under-exploration of the rich discriminative information encoded in extensively pre-trained large models (\eg, stable diffusion models). Thus motivated, we propose a novel approach, named Generative Edge Detector (GED), by fully utilizing the potential of the pre-trained stable diffusion model. Our model can be trained and inferred efficiently without specific network design due to the rich high-level and low-level prior knowledge empowered by the pre-trained stable diffusion. Specifically, we propose to finetune the denoising U-Net and predict latent edge maps directly, by taking the latent image feature maps as input. Additionally, due to the subjectivity and ambiguity of the edges, we also incorporate the granularity of the edges into the denoising U-Net model as one of the conditions to achieve controllable and diverse predictions. Furthermore, we devise a granularity regularization to ensure the relative granularity relationship of the multiple predictions. We conduct extensive experiments on multiple datasets and achieve competitive performance (\eg, 0.870 and 0.880 in terms of ODS and OIS on the BSDS test dataset).

Despite large language models (LLMs) increasingly becoming important components of news recommender systems, employing LLMs in such systems introduces new risks, such as the influence of cognitive biases in LLMs. Cognitive biases refer to systematic patterns of deviation from norms or rationality in the judgment process, which can result in inaccurate outputs from LLMs, thus threatening the reliability of news recommender systems. Specifically, LLM-based news recommender systems affected by cognitive biases could lead to the propagation of misinformation, reinforcement of stereotypes, and the formation of echo chambers. In this paper, we explore the potential impact of multiple cognitive biases on LLM-based news recommender systems, including anchoring bias, framing bias, status quo bias and group attribution bias. Numerous studies have demonstrated the strong performance of Vision Transformer (ViT)-based methods across various computer vision tasks. However, ViT models often struggle to effectively capture high-frequency components in images, which are crucial for detecting small targets and preserving edge details, especially in complex scenarios. This limitation is particularly challenging in colon polyp segmentation, where polyps exhibit significant variability in structure, texture, and shape. High-frequency information, such as boundary details, is essential for achieving precise semantic segmentation in this context. To address these challenges, we propose HiFiSeg, a novel network for colon polyp segmentation that enhances high-frequency information processing through a global-local vision transformer framework. HiFiSeg leverages the pyramid vision transformer (PVT) as its encoder and introduces two key modules: the global-local interaction module (GLIM) and the selective aggregation module (SAM). GLIM employs a parallel structure to fuse global and local information at multiple scales, effectively capturing fine-grained features. SAM selectively integrates boundary details from low-level features with semantic information from high-level features, significantly improving the model's ability to accurately detect and segment polyps. Extensive experiments on five widely recognized benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of HiFiSeg for polyp segmentation. Notably, the mDice scores on the challenging CVC-ColonDB and ETIS datasets reached 0.826 and 0.822, respectively, underscoring the superior performance of HiFiSeg in handling the specific complexities of this task.

Using $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4$ fb$^{-1}$, the forward-backward asymmetry in the $pp \to Z/\gamma^{*} \to \mu^+\mu^-$ process is measured. The measurement is carried out in ten intervals of the difference between the muon pseudorapidities, within a fiducial region covering dimuon masses between $66$ and $116$ GeV, muon pseudorapidities between $2.0$ and $4.5$ and muon transverse momenta above $20$ GeV. These forward-backward asymmetries are compared with predictions, at next-to-leading order in the strong and electroweak couplings. The measured effective leptonic weak mixing angle is $\sin^2\theta_{\rm eff}^\ell = 0.23147 \pm 0.00044 \pm 0.00005 \pm 0.00023$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second arises from systematic uncertainties associated with the asymmetry measurement, and the third arises from uncertainties in the fit model used to extract $\sin^2\theta_{\rm eff}^\ell$ from the asymmetry measurement. Based on 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 4.128 to 4.226 GeV, a search for the Majorana neutrino $\nu_m$ is conducted in the lepton-number-violating decays of $D_s^+\to h^-h^0e^+e^+$. Here, $h^-$ represents a $K^-$ or $\pi^-$, and $h^0$ represents a $\pi^0$, $K_S^0$ or $\phi$. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limits of their branching fractions at the 90\% confidence level are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to \phi\pi^-e^+e^+) < 6.9 \times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to \phi K^-e^+e^+) < 9.9 \times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to K_S^0\pi^-e^+e^+) < 1.3 \times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to K_S^0K^-e^+e^+) < 2.9 \times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to \pi^-\pi^0e^+e^+) < 2.9 \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to K^-\pi^0e^+e^+) < 3.4 \times 10^{-5}$. The Majorana neutrino is searched for with different mass assumptions within the range [0.20, 0.80] GeV$/c^2$ in the decay of $D_s^+\to\phi e^+\nu_m$ with $\nu_m\to\pi^-e^+$, and the upper limits of the branching fractions at the 90\% confidence level are at the level of $10^{-5}-10^{-2}$, depending on the mass of the Majorana neutrino.

Phase-change materials (PCMs) are increasingly recognised as promising platforms for tunable photonic devices due to their ability to modulate optical properties through solid-state phase transitions. Ultrathin and low-loss PCMs are highly valued for their fast and more effective phase transitions and applications in reconfigurable photonic chips, metasurfaces, optical modulators, sensors, photonic memories, and neuromorphic computing. However, conventional PCMs such as GST, GSST, VO2, and In3SbTe2, despite optimisation for tunable meta-optics, suffer from high intrinsic losses in the near-infrared (NIR) region, limiting their potential for high quality factor (Q-factor) resonant metasurfaces. Here we present the design and fabrication of tunable bound states in the continuum (BIC) metasurfaces using the ultralow-loss PCM Sb2Se3. Our BIC metasurfaces, only 25 nm thick, achieve high modulation depth and broad resonance tuning in the NIR with high Q-factors up to 130, without the need for additional materials. Experimentally, we employ these BIC metasurfaces to modulate photoluminescence in rare earth-doped upconversion nanoparticles, reducing the excitation power for multiphoton photoluminescence and enabling emission polarisation manipulation. This work offers a promising platform for developing active resonant metasurfaces in the NIR region, with broad applications including super resolution imaging, optical modulation, ultrafast switches, harmonic generation, colour filtering, and optical sensing.

Text plays a crucial role in the transmission of human civilization, and teaching machines to generate online handwritten text in various styles presents an interesting and significant challenge. However, most prior work has concentrated on generating individual Chinese fonts, leaving {complete text line generation largely unexplored}. In this paper, we identify that text lines can naturally be divided into two components: layout and glyphs. Based on this division, we designed a text line layout generator coupled with a diffusion-based stylized font synthesizer to address this challenge hierarchically. More concretely, the layout generator performs in-context-like learning based on the text content and the provided style references to generate positions for each glyph autoregressively. Meanwhile, the font synthesizer which consists of a character embedding dictionary, a multi-scale calligraphy style encoder, and a 1D U-Net based diffusion denoiser will generate each font on its position while imitating the calligraphy style extracted from the given style references. Qualitative and quantitative experiments on the CASIA-OLHWDB demonstrate that our method is capable of generating structurally correct and indistinguishable imitation samples.

In this memorial paper, we honor Tze Leung Lai's seminal contributions to the topic of multi-armed bandits, with a specific focus on his pioneering work on the upper confidence bound. We establish sharp non-asymptotic regret bounds for an upper confidence bound index with a constant level of exploration for Gaussian rewards. Furthermore, we establish a non-asymptotic regret bound for the upper confidence bound index of Lai (1987) which employs an exploration function that decreases with the sample size of the corresponding arm. The regret bounds have leading constants that match the Lai-Robbins lower bound. The growing usage of renewable energy resources has introduced significant uncertainties in energy generation, enlarging challenges for Regional Transmission Operators (RTOs) in managing transmission congestion. To mitigate congestion that affects neighboring regions, RTOs employ a market-to-market (M2M) process through an iterative method, in which they exchange real-time security-constrained economic dispatch solutions and communicate requests for congestion relief. While this method provides economic benefits, it struggles with issues like power swings and time delays. To explore the full potential of M2M enhancements, in this paper, we first analyze the current M2M iterative method practice to better understand its efficacy and identify places for improvements. Then, we explore enhancements and develop an ADMM method for the M2M coordination that optimizes congestion management. Specifically, our ADMM method can achieve a minimal cost that is the same as the cost obtained through a centralized model that optimizes multiple markets altogether. Our final case studies, across a comprehensive set of multi-area benchmark instances, demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed ADMM algorithm for the M2M process. Meanwhile, we identify scenarios where the existing M2M process fails to provide solutions as a by-product. Vision-language-action (VLA) models trained on large-scale internet data and robot demonstrations have the potential to serve as generalist robot policies. However, despite their large-scale training, VLAs are often brittle to task-irrelevant visual details such as distractor objects or background colors. We introduce Bring Your Own VLA (BYOVLA): a run-time intervention scheme that (1) dynamically identifies regions of the input image that the model is sensitive to, and (2) minimally alters task-irrelevant regions to reduce the model's sensitivity using automated image editing tools. Our approach is compatible with any off the shelf VLA without model fine-tuning or access to the model's weights. Hardware experiments on language-instructed manipulation tasks demonstrate that BYOVLA enables state-of-the-art VLA models to nearly retain their nominal performance in the presence of distractor objects and backgrounds, which otherwise degrade task success rates by up to 40%. Data augmentation is crucial to make machine learning models more robust and safe. However, augmenting data can be challenging as it requires generating diverse data points to rigorously evaluate model behavior on edge cases and mitigate potential harms. Creating high-quality augmentations that cover these "unknown unknowns" is a time- and creativity-intensive task. In this work, we introduce Amplio, an interactive tool to help practitioners navigate "unknown unknowns" in unstructured text datasets and improve data diversity by systematically identifying empty data spaces to explore. Amplio includes three human-in-the-loop data augmentation techniques: Augment With Concepts, Augment by Interpolation, and Augment with Large Language Model. In a user study with 18 professional red teamers, we demonstrate the utility of our augmentation methods in helping generate high-quality, diverse, and relevant model safety prompts. We find that Amplio enabled red teamers to augment data quickly and creatively, highlighting the transformative potential of interactive augmentation workflows.

Significant efforts have been committed to understanding the fundamental combustion chemistry of ammonia at high-pressure and low-temperature conditions with or without blending with other fuels, as these are promising to improve ammonia combustion performance and reduce NOx emission. A commonly used fundamental reactor is the jet-stirred reactor (JSR). However, modeling of high-pressure JSR experiments have been conducted assuming complete ideal gas behaviors, which might lead to misinterpreted or completely wrong results. Therefore, this study proposes, for the first time, a novel framework coupling high-order Virial equation of state, ab initio multi-body intermolecular potential, and real-fluid governing equations. The framework is further applied to investigate NH$_3$ oxidation under supercritical conditions in jet-stirred reactors, where the real-fluid effects on NH$_3$ oxidation characteristics are quantified and compared, via simulated species profiles and relative changes in simulated mole fractions, at various temperatures, pressures, dilution ratios, equivalence ratios, and with or without blending with H$_2$ and CH$_4$. Strong promoting effects on NH$_3$ oxidation from real-fluid effects are revealed, with significant shifts in simulated species profiles observed for both fuel, intermediates and product species. Sensitivity analyses are also conducted based on the new framework, with diverse influences of real-fluid effects on the contributions of the most sensitive pathways highlighted. It is found that, without considering real-fluid behaviors, the error introduced in simulated species mole fractions can reach 85% at the conditions investigated in this study. Propagation of such levels of error to chemical kinetic mechanisms can disqualify them for any meaningful modeling work. These errors can now be excluded using the framework developed in this study.

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems are characterized by strong nonlinearities arising from complex interactions between fluids and structures. These pose significant challenges for traditional control strategies in optimizing structural motion, often leading to suboptimal performance. In contrast, deep reinforcement learning (DRL), through agent interactions within numerical simulation environments and the approximation of control policies using deep neural networks (DNNs), has shown considerable promise in addressing high-dimensional FSI problems. Additionally, smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) offers a flexible and efficient computational approach for modeling large deformations, fractures, and complex interface movements inherent in FSI, outperforming traditional grid-based methods. In this work, we present DRLinSPH, an open-source Python platform that integrates the SPH-based numerical environment provided by the open-source software SPHinXsys with the mature DRL platform Tianshou to enable parallel training for FSI problems. DRLinSPH has been successfully applied to four FSI scenarios: sloshing suppression using rigid and elastic baffles, optimization of wave energy capture through an oscillating wave surge converter (OWSC), and muscle-driven fish swimming in vortices. Lifelong person re-identification (LReID) aims to continuously learn from non-stationary data to match individuals in different environments. Each task is affected by variations in illumination and person-related information (such as pose and clothing), leading to task-wise domain gaps. Current LReID methods focus on task-specific knowledge and ignore intrinsic task-shared representations within domain gaps, limiting model performance. Bridging task-wise domain gaps is crucial for improving anti-forgetting and generalization capabilities, especially when accessing limited old classes during training. To address these issues, we propose a novel attribute-text guided forgetting compensation (ATFC) model, which explores text-driven global representations of identity-related information and attribute-related local representations of identity-free information for LReID. Due to the lack of paired text-image data, we design an attribute-text generator (ATG) to dynamically generate a text descriptor for each instance. We then introduce a text-guided aggregation network (TGA) to explore robust text-driven global representations for each identity and knowledge transfer. Furthermore, we propose an attribute compensation network (ACN) to investigate attribute-related local representations, which distinguish similar identities and bridge domain gaps. Finally, we develop an attribute anti-forgetting (AF) loss and knowledge transfer (KT) loss to minimize domain gaps and achieve knowledge transfer, improving model performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our ATFC method achieves superior performance, outperforming existing LReID methods by over 9.0$\%$/7.4$\%$ in average mAP/R-1 on the seen dataset., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

Nonprehensile actions such as pushing are crucial for addressing multi-object rearrangement problems. To date, existing nonprehensile solutions are all robot-centric, i.e., the manipulation actions are generated with robot-relevant intent and their outcomes are passively evaluated afterwards. Such pipelines are very different from human strategies and are typically inefficient. To this end, this work proposes a novel object-centric planning paradigm and develops the first object-centric planner for general nonprehensile rearrangement problems. By assuming that each object can actively move without being driven by robot interactions, the object-centric planner focuses on planning desired object motions, which are realized via robot actions generated online via a closed-loop pushing strategy. Through extensive experiments and in comparison with state-of-the-art baselines in both simulation and on a physical robot, we show that our object-centric paradigm can generate more intuitive and task-effective robot actions with significantly improved efficiency. In addition, we propose a benchmarking protocol to standardize and facilitate future research in nonprehensile rearrangement.

As a promising paradigm to collaboratively train models with decentralized data, Federated Learning (FL) can be exploited to fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs). While LLMs correspond to huge size, the scale of the training data significantly increases, which leads to tremendous amounts of computation and communication costs. The training data is generally non-Independent and Identically Distributed (non-IID), which requires adaptive data processing within each device. Although Low Rank Adaptation (LoRA) can significantly reduce the scale of parameters to update in the fine-tuning process, it still takes unaffordable time to transfer the low-rank parameters of all the layers in LLMs. In this paper, we propose a Fisher Information-based Efficient Curriculum Federated Learning framework (FibecFed) with two novel methods, i.e., adaptive federated curriculum learning and efficient sparse parameter update. First, we propose a fisher information-based method to adaptively sample data within each device to improve the effectiveness of the FL fine-tuning process. Second, we dynamically select the proper layers for global aggregation and sparse parameters for local update with LoRA so as to improve the efficiency of the FL fine-tuning process. Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) is vital in Industry 4.0, using sensors, digital twins, collaborative robots (cobots), and intention-recognition models to have efficient manufacturing processes. However, Concept Drift is a significant challenge, where robots struggle to adapt to new environments. We address concept drift by integrating Adaptive Intelligence and self-labeling (SLB) to improve the resilience of intention-recognition in an HRC system. Our methodology begins with data collection using cameras and weight sensors, which is followed by annotation of intentions and state changes. Then we train various deep learning models with different preprocessing techniques for recognizing and predicting the intentions. Additionally, we developed a custom state detection algorithm for enhancing the accuracy of SLB, offering precise state-change definitions and timestamps to label intentions. Our results show that the MViT2 model with skeletal posture preprocessing achieves an accuracy of 83% on our data environment, compared to the 79% accuracy of MViT2 without skeleton posture extraction. Additionally, our SLB mechanism achieves a labeling accuracy of 91%, reducing a significant amount of time that would've been spent on manual annotation. Lastly, we observe swift scaling of model performance that combats concept drift by fine tuning on different increments of self-labeled data in a shifted domain that has key differences from the original training environment.. The effectiveness of watermark algorithms in AI-generated text identification has garnered significant attention. Concurrently, an increasing number of watermark algorithms have been proposed to enhance the robustness against various watermark attacks. However, these watermark algorithms remain susceptible to adaptive or unseen attacks. To address this issue, to our best knowledge, we propose the first certified robust watermark algorithm for large language models based on randomized smoothing, which can provide provable guarantees for watermarked text. Specifically, we utilize two different models respectively for watermark generation and detection and add Gaussian and Uniform noise respectively in the embedding and permutation space during the training and inference stages of the watermark detector to enhance the certified robustness of our watermark detector and derive certified radius. To evaluate the empirical robustness and certified robustness of our watermark algorithm, we conducted comprehensive experiments. The results indicate that our watermark algorithm shows comparable performance to baseline algorithms while our algorithm can derive substantial certified robustness, which means that our watermark can not be removed even under significant alterations.

We introduce a Model Predictive Control (MPC) framework for training deep neural networks, systematically unifying the Back-Propagation (BP) and Forward-Forward (FF) algorithms. At the same time, it gives rise to a range of intermediate training algorithms with varying look-forward horizons, leading to a performance-efficiency trade-off. We perform a precise analysis of this trade-off on a deep linear network, where the qualitative conclusions carry over to general networks. Based on our analysis, we propose a principled method to choose the optimization horizon based on given objectives and model specifications. Numerical results on various models and tasks demonstrate the versatility of our method.

Traceability plays a vital role in facilitating various software development activities by establishing the traces between different types of artifacts (e.g., issues and commits in software repositories). Among the explorations for automated traceability recovery, the IR (Information Retrieval)-based approaches leverage textual similarity to measure the likelihood of traces between artifacts and show advantages in many scenarios. However, the globalization of software development has introduced new challenges, such as the possible multilingualism on the same concept (e.g., "ShuXing" vs. "attribute") in the artifact texts, thus significantly hampering the performance of IR-based approaches. Existing research has shown that machine translation can help address the term inconsistency in bilingual projects. However, the translation can also bring in synonymous terms that are not consistent with those in the bilingual projects (e.g., another translation of "ShuXing" as "property"). Therefore, we propose an enhancement strategy called AVIATE that exploits translation variants from different translators by utilizing the word pairs that appear simultaneously across the translation variants from different kinds artifacts (a.k.a. consensual biterms). We use these biterms to first enrich the artifact texts, and then to enhance the calculated IR values for improving IR-based traceability recovery for bilingual software projects. The experiments on 17 bilingual projects (involving English and 4 other languages) demonstrate that AVIATE significantly outperformed the IR-based approach with machine translation (the state-of-the-art in this field) with an average increase of 16.67 in Average Precision (31.43%) and 8.38 (11.22%) in Mean Average Precision, indicating its effectiveness in addressing the challenges of multilingual traceability recovery.

We introduce Brain-JEPA, a brain dynamics foundation model with the Joint-Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA). This pioneering model achieves state-of-the-art performance in demographic prediction, disease diagnosis/prognosis, and trait prediction through fine-tuning. Furthermore, it excels in off-the-shelf evaluations (e.g., linear probing) and demonstrates superior generalizability across different ethnic groups, surpassing the previous large model for brain activity significantly. Brain-JEPA incorporates two innovative techniques: Brain Gradient Positioning and Spatiotemporal Masking. Brain Gradient Positioning introduces a functional coordinate system for brain functional parcellation, enhancing the positional encoding of different Regions of Interest (ROIs). Spatiotemporal Masking, tailored to the unique characteristics of fMRI data, addresses the challenge of heterogeneous time-series patches. These methodologies enhance model performance and advance our understanding of the neural circuits underlying cognition. The accomplished functions of a variety of quantum devices are closely associated with the controlling of exciton transport. To this end we study the exciton transport of the two-dimensional system consisting of two-level multichains with various coupling configurations in a cavity. Two types of the chains are considered, including Tavis-Cummings and Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain. Two conformations of the coupling between chains are considered, including square and triangle type. The effects of the inter-chain coupling, dimerization parameter, the cavity, the length of chains, and the number of chains on the exciton transport are in detail investigated for different coupling configurations of the multi-chain system through spectra and steady-state dynamics. The results show that in the absence of a cavity the exciton transport effciency is decided by the distribution of population of exciton on whole chains. However, when the cavity is considered the exciton transport currents and effciency of the system is controlled by the cavity-dressed energy level crossings and anticrossings near zero-energy modes, at which the coherent excitation and Landau-Zener transitions occur. Therefore, the exciton transport can be enhanced or suppressed at the crossings and anticrossings, in which the polariton acts as crucial role. Besides, it is discovered that the exciton transport effciency is closely related with the parity of both the length and the number of chains. This work is important for the understanding of the exciton transport mechanism in the multichain-cavity system, and provides theoretical basis for excitonic devices with controllable and effcient exciton transport.

This paper proposes an optimization-based task and motion planning framework, named ``Logic Network Flow", to integrate signal temporal logic (STL) specifications into efficient mixed-binary linear programmings. In this framework, temporal predicates are encoded as polyhedron constraints on each edge of the network flow, instead of as constraints between the nodes as in the traditional Logic Tree formulation. Synthesized with Dynamic Network Flows, Logic Network Flows render a tighter convex relaxation compared to Logic Trees derived from these STL specifications. Our formulation is evaluated on several multi-robot motion planning case studies. Empirical results demonstrate that our formulation outperforms Logic Tree formulation in terms of computation time for several planning problems. As the problem size scales up, our method still discovers better lower and upper bounds by exploring fewer number of nodes during the branch-and-bound process, although this comes at the cost of increased computational load for each node when exploring branches.

We present PhysGen, a novel image-to-video generation method that converts a single image and an input condition (e.g., force and torque applied to an object in the image) to produce a realistic, physically plausible, and temporally consistent video. Our key insight is to integrate model-based physical simulation with a data-driven video generation process, enabling plausible image-space dynamics. At the heart of our system are three core components: (i) an image understanding module that effectively captures the geometry, materials, and physical parameters of the image; (ii) an image-space dynamics simulation model that utilizes rigid-body physics and inferred parameters to simulate realistic behaviors; and (iii) an image-based rendering and refinement module that leverages generative video diffusion to produce realistic video footage featuring the simulated motion. The resulting videos are realistic in both physics and appearance and are even precisely controllable, showcasing superior results over existing data-driven image-to-video generation works through quantitative comparison and comprehensive user study. PhysGen's resulting videos can be used for various downstream applications, such as turning an image into a realistic animation or allowing users to interact with the image and create various dynamics. In recent years, with the rapid development of large language models, serval models such as GPT-4o have demonstrated extraordinary capabilities, surpassing human performance in various language tasks. As a result, many researchers have begun exploring their potential applications in the field of public opinion analysis. This study proposes a novel large-language-models-based method for public opinion event heat level prediction. First, we preprocessed and classified 62,836 Chinese hot event data collected between July 2022 and December 2023. Then, based on each event's online dissemination heat index, we used the MiniBatchKMeans algorithm to automatically cluster the events and categorize them into four heat levels (ranging from low heat to very high heat). Next, we randomly selected 250 events from each heat level, totalling 1,000 events, to build the evaluation dataset. During the evaluation process, we employed various large language models to assess their accuracy in predicting event heat levels in two scenarios: without reference cases and with similar case references. The results showed that GPT-4o and DeepseekV2 performed the best in the latter case, achieving prediction accuracies of 41.4% and 41.5%, respectively. Although the overall prediction accuracy remains relatively low, it is worth noting that for low-heat (Level 1) events, the prediction accuracies of these two models reached 73.6% and 70.4%, respectively. Additionally, the prediction accuracy showed a downward trend from Level 1 to Level 4, which correlates with the uneven distribution of data across the heat levels in the actual dataset. Personal data custodian services enable data owners to share their data with data consumers in a convenient manner, anytime and anywhere. However, with data hosted in these services being beyond the control of the data owners, it raises significant concerns about privacy in personal data sharing. Many schemes have been proposed to realize fine-grained access control and privacy protection in data sharing. However, they fail to protect the rights of data owners to their data under the law, since their designs focus on the management of system administrators rather than enhancing the data owners' privacy. In this paper, we introduce a novel task-driven personal data sharing system based on the data capsule paradigm realizing personal data sharing autonomy. It enables data owners in our system to fully control their data, and share it autonomously. Specifically, we present a tamper-resistant data capsule encapsulation method, where the data capsule is the minimal unit for independent and secure personal data storage and sharing. Additionally, to realize selective sharing and informed-consent based authorization, we propose a task-driven data sharing mechanism that is resistant to collusion and EDoS attacks. Furthermore, by updating parts of the data capsules, the permissions granted to data consumers can be immediately revoked. Finally, we conduct a security and performance analysis, proving that our scheme is correct, sound, and secure, as well as revealing more advantageous features in practicality, compared with the state-of-the-art schemes.

Thanks to the rapidly increasing time-domain facilities, we are entering a golden era of research on gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). In this Letter, we report our observations of GRB 240529A with the Burst Optical Observer and Transient Exploring System, the 1.5-meter telescope at Observatorio Sierra Nevada, the 2.5-meter Wide Field Survey Telescope of China, the Large Binocular Telescope, and the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo. The prompt emission of GRB 240529A shows two comparable energetic episodes separated by a quiescence time of roughly 400 s. Combining all available data on the GRB Coordinates Network, we reveal the simultaneous apparent X-ray plateau and optical re-brightening around $10^3-10^4$ s after the burst. Rather than the energy injection from the magnetar as widely invoked for similar GRBs, the multi-wavelength emissions could be better explained as two shocks launched from the central engine separately. The optical peak time and our numerical modeling suggest that the initial bulk Lorentz factor of the later shock is roughly 50, which indicates that the later jet should be accretion-driven and have a higher mass loading than a typical one. The quiescence time between the two prompt emission episodes may be caused by the transition between different accretion states of a central magnetar or black hole, or the fall-back accretion process. We introduce Atlas-Chat, the first-ever collection of large language models specifically developed for dialectal Arabic. Focusing on Moroccan Arabic, also known as Darija, we construct our instruction dataset by consolidating existing Darija language resources, creating novel datasets both manually and synthetically, and translating English instructions with stringent quality control. Atlas-Chat-9B and 2B models, fine-tuned on the dataset, exhibit superior ability in following Darija instructions and performing standard NLP tasks. Notably, our models outperform both state-of-the-art and Arabic-specialized LLMs like LLaMa, Jais, and AceGPT, e.g., achieving a 13% performance boost over a larger 13B model on DarijaMMLU, in our newly introduced evaluation suite for Darija covering both discriminative and generative tasks. Furthermore, we perform an experimental analysis of various fine-tuning strategies and base model choices to determine optimal configurations. All our resources are publicly accessible, and we believe our work offers comprehensive design methodologies of instruction-tuning for low-resource language variants, which are often neglected in favor of data-rich languages by contemporary LLMs.

Transformer-based models have become increasingly popular and have impacted speech-processing research owing to their exceptional performance in sequence modeling. Recently, a promising model architecture, Mamba, has emerged as a potential alternative to transformer-based models because of its efficient modeling of long sequences. In particular, models like SEMamba have demonstrated the effectiveness of the Mamba architecture in single-channel speech enhancement. This paper aims to adapt SEMamba for multi-channel applications with only a small increase in parameters. The resulting system, MC-SEMamba, achieved results on the CHiME3 dataset that were comparable or even superior to several previous baseline models. Additionally, we found that increasing the number of microphones from 1 to 6 improved the speech enhancement performance of MC-SEMamba.

Aerial swarm systems possess immense potential in various aspects, such as cooperative exploration, target tracking, search and rescue. Efficient, accurate self and mutual state estimation are the critical preconditions for completing these swarm tasks, which remain challenging research topics. This paper proposes Swarm-LIO2: a fully decentralized, plug-and-play, computationally efficient, and bandwidth-efficient LiDAR-inertial odometry for aerial swarm systems. Swarm-LIO2 uses a decentralized, plug-and-play network as the communication infrastructure. Only bandwidth-efficient and low-dimensional information is exchanged, including identity, ego-state, mutual observation measurements, and global extrinsic transformations. To support the plug-and-play of new teammate participants, Swarm-LIO2 detects potential teammate UAVs and initializes the temporal offset and global extrinsic transformation all automatically. To enhance the initialization efficiency, novel reflectivity-based UAV detection, trajectory matching, and factor graph optimization methods are proposed. For single image defocus deblurring, acquiring well-aligned training pairs (or training triplets), i.e., a defocus blurry image, an all-in-focus sharp image (and a defocus blur map), is an intricate task for the development of deblurring models. Existing image defocus deblurring methods typically rely on training data collected by specialized imaging equipment, presupposing that these pairs or triplets are perfectly aligned. However, in practical scenarios involving the collection of real-world data, direct acquisition of training triplets is infeasible, and training pairs inevitably encounter spatial misalignment issues. In this work, we introduce a reblurring-guided learning framework for single image defocus deblurring, enabling the learning of a deblurring network even with misaligned training pairs. Specifically, we first propose a baseline defocus deblurring network that utilizes spatially varying defocus blur map as degradation prior to enhance the deblurring performance. Then, to effectively learn the baseline defocus deblurring network with misaligned training pairs, our reblurring module ensures spatial consistency between the deblurred image, the reblurred image and the input blurry image by reconstructing spatially variant isotropic blur kernels. Moreover, the spatially variant blur derived from the reblurring module can serve as pseudo supervision for defocus blur map during training, interestingly transforming training pairs into training triplets. Geometric graph neural networks (GNNs) have emerged as powerful tools for modeling molecular geometry. However, they encounter limitations in effectively capturing long-range interactions in large molecular systems. To address this challenge, we introduce Neural P$^3$M, a versatile enhancer of geometric GNNs to expand the scope of their capabilities by incorporating mesh points alongside atoms and reimaging traditional mathematical operations in a trainable manner. Neural P$^3$M exhibits flexibility across a wide range of molecular systems and demonstrates remarkable accuracy in predicting energies and forces, outperforming on benchmarks such as the MD22 dataset. Spatialized vibrotactile feedback systems deliver tactile information by placing multiple vibrotactile actuators on the body. As increasing numbers of actuators are required to adequately convey information in complicated applications, haptic designers find it difficult to create such systems due to limited scalability of existing toolkits. We propose VibraForge, an open-source vibrotactile toolkit that supports up to 128 vibrotactile actuators. Each actuator is encapsulated within a self-contained vibration unit and driven by its own microcontroller. By leveraging a chain-connection method, each unit receives independent vibration commands from a control unit, with fine-grained control over intensity and frequency. We also designed a GUI Editor to expedite the authoring of spatial vibrotactile patterns. Technical evaluations show that vibration units reliably reproduce audio waveforms with low-latency and high-bandwidth data communication. Case studies of phonemic tactile display, virtual reality fitness training, and drone teleoperation demonstrate the potential usage of VibraForge within different domains.

A search for the very rare $B^{*0}\to\mu^+\mu^-$ and $B_{s}^{*0}\to\mu^+\mu^-$ decays is conducted by analysing the $B_c^+\to \pi^+\mu^+\mu^-$ process. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9$\text{\,fb}^{-1}$. The signal signatures correspond to simultaneous peaks in the $\mu^+\mu^-$ and $\pi^+\mu^+\mu^-$ invariant masses. No evidence for an excess of events over background is observed for either signal decay mode. In the medical field, the limited availability of large-scale datasets and labor-intensive annotation processes hinder the performance of deep models. Diffusion-based generative augmentation approaches present a promising solution to this issue, having been proven effective in advancing downstream medical recognition tasks. Nevertheless, existing works lack sufficient semantic and sequential steerability for challenging video/3D sequence generation, and neglect quality control of noisy synthesized samples, resulting in unreliable synthetic databases and severely limiting the performance of downstream tasks. In this work, we present Ctrl-GenAug, a novel and general generative augmentation framework that enables highly semantic- and sequential-customized sequence synthesis and suppresses incorrectly synthesized samples, to aid medical sequence classification. Specifically, we first design a multimodal conditions-guided sequence generator for controllably synthesizing diagnosis-promotive samples. A sequential augmentation module is integrated to enhance the temporal/stereoscopic coherence of generated samples. Then, we propose a noisy synthetic data filter to suppress unreliable cases at semantic and sequential levels. Extensive experiments on 3 medical datasets, using 11 networks trained on 3 paradigms, comprehensively analyze the effectiveness and generality of Ctrl-GenAug, particularly in underrepresented high-risk populations and out-domain conditions., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, 7 tables

Diffusion-based image super-resolution (SR) methods have achieved remarkable success by leveraging large pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models as priors. However, these methods still face two challenges: the requirement for dozens of sampling steps to achieve satisfactory results, which limits efficiency in real scenarios, and the neglect of degradation models, which are critical auxiliary information in solving the SR problem. In this work, we introduced a novel one-step SR model, which significantly addresses the efficiency issue of diffusion-based SR methods. Unlike existing fine-tuning strategies, we designed a degradation-guided Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) module specifically for SR, which corrects the model parameters based on the pre-estimated degradation information from low-resolution images. This module not only facilitates a powerful data-dependent or degradation-dependent SR model but also preserves the generative prior of the pre-trained diffusion model as much as possible. Furthermore, we tailor a novel training pipeline by introducing an online negative sample generation strategy. Combined with the classifier-free guidance strategy during inference, it largely improves the perceptual quality of the super-resolution results. Flexoelectricity is a universal effect that generates electric polarization due to broken inversion symmetry caused by local strain gradient. The large strain gradient at nanoscale makes flexo-electric effects, especially in nanoscopic ferroelectric materials, promising in sensors, actuator, energy harvesting, and memory applications. In this work, we studied flexoelectricity in hexagonal ferrites h-YbFeO3, an improper ferroelectric expected to have weak piezoelectricity and low sensitivity to depolarization field, which are advantageous for studying flexoelectric effects. We show that in h-YbFeO3 epitaxial thin films, strain gradient on the order of 10^6 m-1 occurs near grain boundaries, which has a significant impact on the non-polar K3 structural distortion that induces spontaneous polarization. The phenomenological model based on the Landau theory of improper ferroelectricity suggests an indirect flexoelectric effect on the order of 10 nC/m in h-YbFeO3, which is substantially larger than the expectation from Kogan mechanism. These results reveal a novel microscopic mechanism of coupling between strain gradient and polarization mediated by structural distortion, which we call improper flexoelectricity.

Recent advances on time series forecasting mainly focus on improving the forecasting models themselves. However, managing the length of the input data can also significantly enhance prediction performance. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach called Optimal Starting Point Time Series Forecast (OSP-TSP) to capture the intrinsic characteristics of time series data. By adjusting the sequence length via leveraging the XGBoost and LightGBM models, the proposed approach can determine optimal starting point (OSP) of the time series and thus enhance the prediction performances. The performances of the OSP-TSP approach are then evaluated across various frequencies on the M4 dataset and other real-world datasets. Empirical results indicate that predictions based on the OSP-TSP approach consistently outperform those using the complete dataset. Moreover, recognizing the necessity of sufficient data to effectively train models for OSP identification, we further propose targeted solutions to address the issue of data insufficiency.

In view of the recent discovery of $T_{cc}$, which can be described as a $DD^*$ molecular state, we perform a study of the $KDD^*$ system, and its extension to studying $KD^*D^*$, where $D^*D^*$ is bound as a spin 1 $T_{cc}$-like state, to search for the possible existence of exotic mesons with the open flavors $ccs$ being part of their quark configuration. Considering the additional attractive interactions present in the $KD$ and $KD^*$ subsystems, where the states $D^*_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ are generated, we solve the Faddeev equations considering the fixed-center approximation for the mentioned three-body systems and find the existence of two doubly charmed $K^*$-like mesons, $K_{cc}^*(4309)$ and $K_{cc}^*(4449)$, with quantum numbers $I(J^P)=1/2\,(1^-)$. Considering the respective three-body thresholds of the two systems, both $K_{cc}$-states are bound by around $60$ MeV.
