Objective: To Prepared of β-Cyclodextrin inclusion complex with Foeniculum vulgare（fennel） volatile ooil and study on its sstructural characterization and stability. Methods: Based on the inclusion rate, the inclusion yield and the content of trans-anethole in the inclusion compound, the comprehensive evaluation index was established, and the effects of the ratio of fennel volatile oil to β-cyclodextrin, inclusion temperature and inclusion time on it were explored. The preparation process was optimized by orthogonal test. It was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, thin layer chromatography, Fourier infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Finally, the stability of the inclusion compound was investigated by light, high temperature and high humidity tests. Results: The optimum conditions obtained by saturated aqueous solution method were as follows: the ratio of volatile oil to β-cyclodextrin was 1∶8 (mL/g), the inclusion temperature was 40 ℃, the inclusion time was 60 min. Under these conditions, the inclusion rate of fennel volatile oil inclusion compound was 96.90%, the inclusion yield was 93. 61%, the content of trans-anethole was 6.81%, and the comprehensive score was 99.68. The inclusion compound was white powder with loose texture and good inclusion effect. The inclusion compound was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, thin layer chromatography, Fourier infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Its stability was good within 5 days of illumination (4 000 lx), volatile components in the inclusion compound were easy to lose at high temperature (60 ℃) for a long time, and it would deliquesce and agglomerate when the relative humidity was more than 75%. Under the conditions of long illumination time, high temperature and high humidity, the inclusion rate and trans-anethole content were obviously reduced. Conclusion: The inclusion rate and inclusion yield of the above-mentioned optimal inclusion process are high, and the process is stable. When stored in a dry and sealed environment at room temperature, the β-cyclodextrin inclusion compound of fennel volatile oil has certain stability compared with the volatile oil.

This study aimed to investigate the preventive effects of the total polyphenols from Nymphaea candida (NCTP) on LPS-induced septic acute lung injury (ALI) in mice and its mechanisms. NCTP could significantly ameliorate LPS-induced lung tissue pathological injury in mice as well as lung wet/dry ratio and MPO activities (p < 0.05). NCTP could significantly decrease the blood leukocyte, neutrophil, monocyte, basophil, and eosinophil amounts and LPS contents in ALI mice compared with the model group (p < 0.05), improving lymphocyte amounts (p < 0.05). Moreover, compared with the model group, NCTP could decrease lung tissue TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β levels (p < 0.05) and downregulate the protein expression of TLR4, MyD88, TRAF6, IKKβ, IκB-α, p-IκB-α, NF-κB p65, p-NF-κB p65, NLRP3, ASC, and Caspase1 in lung tissues (p < 0.05). Furthermore, NCTP could inhibit ileum histopathological injuries, restoring the ileum tight junctions by increasing the expression of ZO-1 and occludin. Simultaneously, NCTP could reverse the gut microbiota disorder, restore the diversity of gut microbiota, increase the relative abundance of Clostridiales and Lachnospiraceae, and enhance the content of SCFAs (acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid) in feces. These results suggested that NCTP has preventive effects on septic ALI, and its mechanism is related to the regulation of gut microbiota, SCFA metabolism, and the TLR-4/NF-κB and NLRP3 pathways. The origin of cosmic high-energy neutrinos remains largely unexplained. For high-energy neutrino alerts from IceCube, a coincidence with time-variable emission has been seen for three different types of accreting black holes: (1) a gamma-ray flare from a blazar (TXS 0506+056), (2) an optical transient following a stellar tidal disruption event (TDE; AT2019dsg), and (3) an optical outburst from an active galactic nucleus (AGN; AT2019fdr). For the latter two sources, infrared follow-up observations revealed a powerful reverberation signal due to dust heated by the flare. This discovery motivates a systematic study of neutrino emission from all supermassive black hole with similar dust echoes. Because dust reprocessing is agnostic to the origin of the outburst, our work unifies TDEs and high-amplitude flares from AGN into a population that we dub accretion flares. Besides the two known events, we uncover a third flare that is coincident with a PeV-scale neutrino (AT2019aalc). Based solely on the optical and infrared properties, we estimate a significance of 3.6σ for this association of high-energy neutrinos with three accretion flares. Our results imply that at least ∼10 per cent of the IceCube high-energy neutrino alerts could be due to accretion flares. This is surprising because the sum of the fluence of these flares is at least three orders of magnitude lower compared to the total fluence of normal AGN. It thus appears that the efficiency of high-energy neutrino production in accretion flares is increased compared to non-flaring AGN. Simple Summary: In current pig farming, pigs are susceptible to stress-induced adverse emotions. Emotional contagion may propagate these emotions within a herd, potentially affecting overall welfare. Typically, treatments of individual pigs should be conducted separately from the group. Thus, after separation from treatment on an individual pig, the behavioral responses and heart rate changes of the companion pig were recorded to determine if the sensory avoidance was effective. It was found that peers were still affected by the treated pigs after sensory avoidance. Separation from treatment does not eliminate the effects of the treated pig on companion pigs, which can still be affected in post-treatment contact. In the pig farming industry, it is recommended to avoid groups when treating individuals to reduce adverse reactions in the group. However, can this eliminate the adverse effects effectively? Piglets were assigned to the Rewarding Group (RG), the Punishing Group (PG), and the Paired Control Group (PCG). There were six replicates in each group, with two paired piglets per replicate. One piglet of the RG and PG was randomly selected as the Treated pig (TP), treated with food rewards or electric shock, and the other as the Naive pig (NP). The NPs in the RG and PG were unaware of the treatment process, and piglets in the PCG were not treated. The behavior and heart rate changes of all piglets were recorded. Compared to the RG, the NPs in the PG showed longer proximity but less contact behavior, and the TPs in the PG showed more freezing behavior. The percentage change in heart rate of the NPs was synchronized with the TPs. This shows that after sensory avoidance, the untreated pigs could also feel the emotions of their peers and their emotional state was affected by their peers, and the negative emotions in the pigs lasted longer than the positive emotions. All-optical modulators avoid the conversion from external electronic signals to optical signals and thus have the potential to achieve an energy-efficient high-speed photonic system. Phosphorene recently debuted as an attractive material that exhibits outstanding high electron mobility, strong light-matter interaction and modifiable bandgap, making it ideal for all-optical modulators. In this paper, by incorporating a phosphorene and silicon-based micro-ring resonator (MRR), we first propose and experimentally demonstrate a unique phosphorene-integrated all-optical modulator in telecommunications. By utilizing a phosphorene thin film with an average thickness of 22 nm as the absorption material, the rise time of only 479 ns and decay time of 113 ns are achieved, which is the fastest reported response time in the family of phosphorene modulators. The corresponding 3 dB bandwidth is larger than 2.5 MHz, and it exhibits a low-loss performance benefited from its finite bandgap. The proposed phosphorene/MRR hybrid modulator may have potential in the applications of all-optical interconnections.

There are too much iron and alkaline in red mud, which hinders its utilization in cement. In order to enhance the reusing rate of red mud in cement material, this research paid adequate attention on reduction methods for iron recovery from red mud, water heated ion-exchanging methods using calcium carbide slags and oxalic methods for dealkalization of red mud, eventually used refactored red mud after iron recovery and dealkalization to prepare cement clinker. The results show that under the optimized condition that the sintering temperature is 1 400 °C, lasting time is 1 h, rice husk ash adding content is 9.08% (mass fraction), cooling method is water cooling, the iron recovery rate of red mud is 77.24% while the content of iron declines to 9.39% (mass fraction) after iron recovery. Under the condition that reacting temperature is 90 °C, deironed red mud and calcium carbide slags mass ratio is 1: 1, liquid to solid rate (mL/g) is 6, reacting time is 7 h, the dealkalizaiton rate of ion exchanging methods using calcium carbide slags is 89.30%, meanwhile, the content of Na2 O in refactored red mud drops to 0.592% (mass fraction), which meets the requirement for cement ingredients that alkaline content must be lower than 1%. When the rate value of cement raw material, namely the lime saturation factor is 0.88, silicon rate factor is 2.4, aluminum rate factor is 1.4, cement raw materials prepared using refactored red mud possess good burnability under the sintering temperature ranging from 1 300 °C to 1 450 °C. When the sintering temperature is 1 350 °C, grains in cement clinkers show as irregular polygons with normal morphology. Structural health monitoring (SHM) is critical to maintaining safe and reliable civil infrastructure, but the optimal design of an SHM sensing system, i.e., optimal sensor placement (OSP), remains a complex challenge. Based on the existing literature, this paper presents a comprehensive review of OSP strategies for SHM. It covers the key steps in OSP, from evaluation criteria to efficient optimization algorithms. The evaluation criteria are classified into six groups, while the optimization algorithms are roughly categorized into three classes. The advantages and disadvantages of each group of methods have been summarized, aiming to benefit the OSP strategy selection in future projects. Then, the real-world implementation of OSP on bridges, high-rise buildings, and other engineering structures, is presented. Based on the current progress, the challenges of OSP are recognized; its future development directions are recommended. This study equips researchers/practitioners with an integrated perspective on state-of-the-art OSP. Simple Summary: Emotional contagion and social support are common phenomena in animals. The study evaluated whether pigs that did not observe the stimulus process could also perceive the negative emotions of their companions and provide social support. Here, the research compared differences in behavioral responses between treated individuals and naive companions by measuring the frequency/duration and latency of behaviors occurring in pigs under different test conditions to determine whether there were behavioral responses of the companions with emotional contagion to support the treated individuals. Whether or not the companions were aware of the source of the negative emotions of the treated pigs, they were able to respond to it in an appropriate emotional way and provide social support to the treated individual. This study expects to confirm the existence of emotional transmission in pigs from multiple perspectives and to provide theoretical references for improving animal welfare in livestock farming. A group that could directly observe (DO) and a group that could not directly observe (NO) were created based on whether or not their peers observed the treatment process, as the treated pig (TP) was treated with electrical shock and the companion pig (CP) either witnessed the treatment inflicted upon TP or not, and a third group was a control group, in which neither pig was stimulated. The behavioral responses of both the TPs and CPs were recorded to evaluate the emotional reaction. The results found that in both the DO and NO groups, the frequency of TP freezing was significantly higher than that of CP, and CP was significantly higher than that of the control group. Interestingly, although the social interaction responses of the CPs were not similar in the DO and NO groups, there were no significant differences between the behaviors of TPs in the DO and NO groups, except for nose–nose contact and a single approach to the partition, which allowed us to conclude that, whether or not the pigs directly observed the negative treatment, they were able to respond accordingly to fear and provide similar social support to their companions who were treated negatively. Stem cell function in different meristems of Arabidopsis is mainly defined by WUSCHEL (WUS)/WUSCHEL-RELATED HOMEOBOX (WOX) family of proteins. Sugars have also been demonstrated to play pivotal roles in stem cell function and development of plants. As a cytosolic fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase, FRUCTOSE INSENSITIVE1 (FINS1) has been demonstrated to regulate plant growth in response to fructose signalling. However, it remains to be elucidated how stem cell function is regulated in response to fructose signalling. Our work showed that FINS1 interacts with WUS/WOX protein as a complex, which further binds to the promoter of WUS/WOX and regulates its expression in response to fructose signalling. FINS1 might act as a bifunctional factor that promotes WUS/WOX expression in the presence of low concentrations of fructose, and represses WUS/WOX expression in the presence of high concentrations of fructose. Microwave photonic filters have been regarded as an alternative to traditional radio‐frequency filters because of their wide bandwidth and large tunability. Integrated microwave photonic filters can integrate all necessary components into a single chip and are highly demanded for future radio‐frequency applications. Here, a highly integrated frequency‐tunable microwave photonic bandpass filter based on a silicon platform is proposed and demonstrated. The integrated filter consists of a phase modulator, four cascaded microring resonators and a photodetector. The frequency‐tunable range of the integrated filter is from 6.1 to 35.9 GHz, and the reconfigurable bandwidth is from 0.22 to 0.54 GHz. A large spurious free dynamic range of 102.1 dB Hz2/3 is obtained. Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) have been a research hotspot in recent years. Programmable PICs that have the advantages of versatility and reconfigurability that can realize multiple functions through a common structure have been especially popular. Leveraging on-chip couplers and phase shifters, general-purpose waveguide meshes connected in different topologies can be manipulated at run-time and support a variety of applications. However, current waveguide meshes suffer from relatively a low cell amount and limited bandwidth. Here, we demonstrate a reconfigurable photonic integrated computing chip based on a quadrilateral topology network, where typical analog computing functions, including temporal differentiation, integration, and Hilbert transformation, are implemented with a processing bandwidth of up to 40 GHz. By configuring an optical path and changing the splitting ratio of the optical switches in the network, the functions can be switched and the operation order can be tuned. This approach enables wideband analog computing of large-scale PICs in a cost-effective, ultra-compact architecture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A rare class of supernovae (SNe) is characterized by strong interaction between the ejecta and several solar masses of circumstellar matter (CSM) as evidenced by strong Balmer-line emission. Within the first few weeks after the explosion, they may display spectral features similar to overluminous Type Ia SNe, while at later phase their observation properties exhibit remarkable similarities with some extreme case of Type IIn SNe that show strong Balmer lines years after the explosion. We present polarimetric observations of SN 2018evt obtained by the ESO Very Large Telescope from 172 to 219 d after the estimated time of peak luminosity to study the geometry of the CSM. The non-zero continuum polarization decreases over time, suggesting that the mass-loss of the progenitor star is aspherical. The prominent H α emission can be decomposed into a broad, time-evolving component and an intermediate-width, static component. The former shows polarized signals, and it is likely to arise from a cold dense shell (CDS) within the region between the forward and reverse shocks. The latter is significantly unpolarized, and it is likely to arise from shocked, fragmented gas clouds in the H-rich CSM. We infer that SN 2018evt exploded inside a massive and aspherical circumstellar cloud. The symmetry axes of the CSM and the SN appear to be similar. SN 2018evt shows observational properties common to events that display strong interaction between the ejecta and CSM, implying that they share similar circumstellar configurations. Our preliminary estimate also suggests that the circumstellar environment of SN 2018evt has been significantly enriched at a rate of ∼0.1 M⊙ yr−1 over a period of >100 yr. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photonic‐assisted microwave frequency identification systems have been extensively explored and widely applied for civil and defense applications. Full integration of this system is a promising candidate in attempts to meet the requirements of reduction in size, weight, and power. Although many integrated photonic chips have been reported in different technologies, none has monolithically integrated all the main active and passive optoelectronic components. Furthermore, previous approaches could identify either a single frequency signal instantaneously or multiple frequency signals statistically, but not both, hindering the practical applications. Here, a highly integrated dual‐modality microwave frequency identification system on a single chip is reported. All critical components including a modulator, a sweeping‐frequency filter, a frequency‐selected filter, an amplitude comparison function, and parallel photodetectors, are monolithically integrated on the silicon‐on‐insulator platform. Thanks to the dual‐modality scheme, the chip is able to identify different types of microwave signals, including single‐frequency, multiple‐frequency, chirped, and frequency‐hopping microwave signals, as well as discriminate instantaneous frequency variation among the frequency‐modulated signals. This demonstration exhibits a highly integrated solution and fully functional microwave frequency identification, which can meet the requirements in reduction of size, weight, and power for future advanced microwave photonic processor. The current generation of all-sky surveys is rapidly expanding our ability to study variable and transient sources. These surveys, with a variety of sensitivities, cadences, and fields of view, probe many ranges of time-scale and magnitude. Data from the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) yields an opportunity to find variables on time-scales from minutes to months. In this paper, we present the codebase, ztfperiodic , and the computational metrics employed for the catalogue based on ZTF's Second Data Release. We describe the publicly available, graphical-process-unit optimized period-finding algorithms employed, and highlight the benefit of existing and future graphical-process-unit clusters. We show how generating metrics as input to catalogues of this scale is possible for future ZTF data releases. Further work will be needed for future data from the Vera C. 2D materials, such as graphene, black phosphorous and transition metal dichalcogenides, have gained persistent attention in the past few years thanks to their unique properties for optoelectronics. More importantly, introducing 2D materials into silicon photonic devices will greatly promote the performance of optoelectronic devices, including improvement of response speed, reduction of energy consumption, and simplification of fabrication process. Moreover, 2D materials meet the requirements of complementary metal‐oxide‐semiconductor compatible silicon photonic manufacturing. A comprehensive overview and evaluation of state‐of‐the‐art 2D photonic integrated devices for telecommunication applications is provided, including light sources, optical modulators, and photodetectors. Optimized by unique structures such as photonic crystal waveguide, slot waveguide, and microring resonator, these 2D material‐based photonic devices can be further improved in light‐matter interactions, providing a powerful design for silicon photonic integrated circuits. All-optical modulators have a wide range of applications and are in great demand for its potential in all-optical communications, interconnects and signal processing. Two-dimensional materials can modulate light with superior performance, MXene, one of the latest additions to the world of 2D materials, exhibits good electrical conductivity, excellent stability, and highly tunable electronic/optical properties. Thus, it is promising in practical photonic applications. In this work, an integrated all-optical modulator using MXene Ti3C2Tx inkjet-printed on a microring resonator is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Based on its strong photo-thermal conversion efficiency, the all-optical modulation was successfully realized with a tuning efficiency of 0.09π mW−1 and a modulation depth of ∼7.8 dB. The measured 10%–90% rise and decay time are 300 μs and 90 μs, respectively. Applications of optical switches, such as signal routing and data-intensive computing, are critical in optical interconnects and optical computing. Integrated optical switches enabled by two-dimensional (2D) materials and beyond, such as graphene and black phosphorus, have demonstrated many advantages in terms of speed and energy consumption compared to their conventional silicon-based counterparts. Here we review the state-of-the-art of optical switches enabled by 2D materials and beyond and organize them into several tables. The performance tables and future projections show the frontiers of optical switches fabricated from 2D materials and beyond, providing researchers with an overview of this field and enabling them to identify existing challenges and predict promising research directions.
