Background Urolithiasis is a significant cause of morbidity that may be diagnosed at a young age. However, there is little research on the role of nutrition in pediatric urolithiasis, and research on the infantile period is extremely rare. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of dietary factors on those diagnosed with 'idiopathic' infantile urolithiasis. Method The study group included 44 infants without a proven etiological factor for urolithiasis. The control group consisted of 60 fully healthy infants of matched age and gender. The parents and caregivers of each infant in the patient and control groups were carefully questioned by the same researcher for their dietary characteristics. Result The duration of formula usage and daily volume of formula were statistically higher in the study group than the control group (p = 0.041 and p = 0.003, respectively). The urolithiasis group consumed significantly more cow's milk and dairy products (p = 0.033 and p = 0.001). There was no statistically meaningful difference between the two groups in terms of starting age for free water and salty food, as well as daily water intake. Conclusion We concluded that dietary conditions could also be a risk factor for idiopathic urolithiasis. We believe that nutritional factors for infantile urolithiasis should be better described, in addition to genetic, anatomical, and metabolic factors. Background/Objectives: Eculizumab is a first-line treatment for atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), and patients undergoing eculizumab therapy may become more susceptible to infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis (Nm). While meningococcal vaccination is required for patients undergoing eculizumab therapy, there is limited knowledge about meningococcal carriage in children with aHUS. We aimed to evaluate (1) the prevalence of Nm carriage, (2) serogroup distribution, and (3) the immunization status of children undergoing eculizumab treatment for aHUS. Methods: The Meningo-aHUS study is a prospective, multi-center study evaluating meningococcal carriage in children and adolescents in Türkiye receiving eculizumab for aHUS. We noted the age, gender, daycare, school, or university attendance, passive smoking status, previous infection and antibiotic use, and previous immunization history, including meningococcal vaccines, from the medical records of those children with aHUS. We collected nasopharyngeal samples, tested them for Nm using real-time polymerase chain reaction, and performed a serogroup analysis on the positive samples. Results: We collected nasopharyngeal samples from 62 children with aHUS. Out of 62 children, 61 (98.4%) had received at least one dose of the meningococcal vaccine. The median time since the last meningococcal vaccine dose was 15 months (1–59 months). We detected meningococcal carriage in three (4.8%, 95% CI 1.0–13.5) children, and all three strains were non-groupable (NG). No other serogroups were detected. Conclusions: Almost all the children received their risk-group meningococcal immunization, including booster doses. A 4.8% of children with aHUS carried NG meningococci and, no vaccine serogroups were detected. Patients treated with eculizumab remain profoundly susceptible to IMD due to these NG meningococcal strains. The occurrence of breakthrough cases and carriage of Nm, especially NG strains, highlights the significance of maintaining a state of constant alertness, promptly seeking medical attention, and swiftly treating any symptoms that align with IMD, regardless of their vaccination status or antibiotic prophylaxis. Feline parvovirus (FPV) or feline panleukopenia virus is a highly contagious, lifethreatening infectious virus in cats. Although FPV vaccination is routinely practiced in China, clinical diseases continue to occur. The investigation of genotypes and viral evolution can contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of FPV. Therefore, this study aimed to provide an up-todate understanding of the epidemiological, genotypic, and phylogenetic characteristics of FPV. In total, 152 rectal swabs were collected from diseased cats. All swab samples were tested for FPV using molecular methods. Amplification of the complete viral protein 2 (VP2) gene was performed for further analysis and to infer the genotypic and evolutionary characteristics of FPV. Of the 152 samples, FPV DNA was detected in 17 (17/152, 11.18%). Cats with FPV showed variable clinical signs such as dehydration, anorexia, fever, vomiting, and blood-stained diarrhea. Furthermore, VP2 sequences were identified in 17 PCR-positive cats, confirming the presence of FPV. Phylogenetic and nucleotide pairwise identity analyses revealed high genetic similarity among FPV sequences (99.6-100%) and clustered them into the FPV-G1 group. Amino acid analysis indicated a novel mutation (Ala91Ser) in all VP2 gene sequences amplified in this study. Our study provides baseline epidemiological data for the better prevention of FPV with respect to vaccination strategies. Genotypic and phylogenetic analyses confirm that FPV-G1 was the predominant FPV group in infected cats in Kunshan. Importance: Although the role of bovine coronavirus (BCoV) in calf diarrhea and respiratory disorders is well documented, its contribution to neurological diseases is unclear. Objective: This study conducted virological investigations of calves showing diarrhea and respiratory and neurological signs. Methods: An outbreak of diarrhea, respiratory, and neurological disorders occurred among the 12 calves in July 2022 in Istanbul, Türkiye. Two of these calves exhibited neurological signs and died a few days after the appearance of symptoms. One of these calves was necropsied and analyzed using molecular and histopathological tests. Results: BCoV RNA was detected in the brain, lung, spleen, liver, and intestine of the calf that had neurological signs by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Immunostaining was also observed in the intestine and brain. A 622 bp S1 gene product was noted on gel electrophoresis only in the brain. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the BCoV detected in this study had a high proximity to the BCoV strain GIb with 99.19% nucleotide sequence homology to the strains detected in Poland, Israel, Türkiye, and France. No distinct genetic lineages were observed when the brain isolate was compared with the respiratory and enteric strains reported to GenBank. In addition, the highest identity (98,72%) was obtained with the HECV 4408 and L07748 strains of human coronaviruses. Conclusions and Relevance: The strain detected in a calf brain belongs to the GIb-European lineage and shares high sequence homology with BCoV strains detected in Europe and Israel. In addition, the similarity between the human coronaviruses (4408 and L07748) raises questions about the zoonotic potential of the strains detected in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fowl adenovirus can cause important diseases in chickens such as inclusion body hepatitis, hepatitis hydropericardium syndrome, and gizzard erosion and ulceration. Inclusion body hepatitis has been regularly reported from many countries. This is the first case report from Turkey, describing an outbreak of inclusion body hepatitis in broiler farms due to fowl adenovirus-8b (FAdV-8b).

Background Nocturnal enuresis (NE) may negatively affect social and emotional life as well as mood in both children and their mothers. The aim of this study is to evaluate severity of self-reported depressive symptomatology and determine the relevant factors in children with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) and their mothers by using depression inventories. Methods Children Depression Inventory (CDI) for children and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) for mothers were administered to the study group. The children and mothers in the patient and control groups were compared according to the depression inventory scores. The relationship of various sociodemographic factors with those scores was also investigated. Results BDI scores of the mothers of children with primary MNE demonstrated minor depressive symptomatology and were significantly higher than the mothers in the control group (p = 0.002). Moreover, although within the normal range, CDI scores of the children with primary MNE were also significantly higher than the controls (p = 0.031). Main factors associated with BDI scores were the presence of primary MNE, maternal educational level, and CDI scores. School achievement of the children, monthly income of the family, and BDI scores were found to be correlated to the CDI scores. Conclusions Primary MNE was found to be associated with negative mood of the mothers in the present study. Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is one of the most important respiratory pathogens of cattle. In this study, frequency of infection, analysis of variants, and the immune status of vaccinated and non-vaccinated cattle were studied. Blood (n = 162) and nasal/oropharyngeal (n = 277) swabs were collected from 62 cattle herds in Turkey. Lung samples (n = 37) were also taken from dead animals and abattoirs. Antibodies to BRSV were detected in 76 (46%) out of 162 sera. The antibody levels in the vaccinated and non-vaccinated groups were statistically significant. Among 277 nasal/oropharyngeal swabs and 37 lungs, ten nasal/oropharyngeal and four lung samples were positive for BRSV-RNA. BRSV-G gene sequences of 5 out of 14 RT-PCR positive samples showed that all viruses clustered as Group-III in phylogenetic analysis with 88–100% homology. Similarity with previous Turkish BRSVs was 89–98%, and that with BRSVs detected in the USA and Czechia was 89.47–93.12%. BRSV continues to circulate in Turkish cattle, and vaccination seems beneficial in preventing BRSV. The diversity of the BRSVs found in this study needs be considered in vaccination strategies. Hinman syndrome was a non-neurogenic neurogenic bladder and the most severe form of dysfunctional voiding disorder. The bladder-sphincter discoordination causes damage to the bladder and upper urinary tract if it is not diagnosed early and treated adequately.
