The Einstein Probe (EP) achieved its first detection and localization of a bright X-ray flare, EP240219a, on February 19, 2024, during its commissioning phase. Subsequent targeted searches triggered by the EP240219a alert identified a faint, untriggered gamma-ray burst (GRB) in the archived data of Fermi/GBM, Swift/BAT, Insight-HXMT/HE and INTEGRAL/SPI-ACS. The EP/WXT light curve reveals a long duration of approximately 160 seconds with a slow decay, whereas the Fermi/GBM light curve shows a total duration of approximately 70 seconds. The peak in the Fermi/GBM light curve occurs slightly later with respect to the peak seen in the EP/WXT light curve. Our spectral analysis shows that a single cutoff power-law model effectively describes the joint EP/WXT-Fermi/GBM spectra in general, indicating coherent broad emission typical of GRBs. The model yielded a photon index of $\sim -1.70 \pm 0.05$ and a peak energy of $\sim 257 \pm 134$ keV. After detection of GRB 240219A, long-term observations identified several candidates in optical and radio wavelengths, none of which was confirmed as the afterglow counterpart during subsequent optical and near-infrared follow-ups. The analysis of GRB 240219A classifies it as an X-ray rich GRB with a high peak energy, presenting both challenges and opportunities for studying the physical origins of X-ray flashes (XRFs), X-ray rich GRBs (XRRs), and classical GRBs (C-GRBs). We study the environment of the z=6.33 ultraluminous quasar SDSS J010013.02+280225.8 (J0100) to understand its association with large-scale structure. Theoretical models propose high-redshift quasars as markers of galaxy overdensities residing in the most massive dark matter halos (DMHs) in the early universe. J0100 is an ultraluminous quasar with the most massive black hole known at z>6, suggesting a high likelihood of residing in a massive DMH. We present wide-field ($\sim$522 square arcminute) imaging in the r-, i-, and z-bands from the Large Binocular Camera on the Large Binocular Telescope, with Y- and J-band imaging from the Wide-field Infrared Camera on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, centered on J0100. Applying color selections, we identify 23 objects as i-droput Lyman Break Galaxy (LBG) candidates in the J0100 field. We use the deep photometric catalog in the 1.27 square degree COSMOS field to calculate the density of LBGs in a blank field, and to estimate the selection completeness and purity. The observed surface density of LBG candidates in the J0100 field corresponds to a galaxy overdensity of $\delta$=4 (at 8.4$\sigma$). This large-scale overdensity suggests that the $\sim$ 22 square arcminute overdensity found by Kashino et al. using JWST data extends out to much larger scales. We calculate the angular auto-correlation function of the candidates and find a positive correlation on $\lesssim$ 10 arcminute scales as well as evidence of asymmetries in their spatial distribution, further suggesting a direct detection of large-scale structure around the ultra-luminous quasar J0100., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables, to be published in The Astrophysical Journal (ApJ)

The [CII] 158 $\mu$m emission line and the underlying far-infrared (FIR) dust continuum are important tracers for studying star formation and kinematic properties of early galaxies. We present a survey of the [CII] emission lines and FIR continua of 31 luminous quasars at $z>6.5$ using the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) and the NOrthern Extended Millimeter Array (NOEMA) at sub-arcsec resolution. This survey more than doubles the number of quasars with [CII] and FIR observations at these redshifts and enables statistical studies of quasar host galaxies deep into the epoch of reionization. We detect [CII] emission in 27 quasar hosts with a luminosity range of $L_{\rm [CII]}=(0.3-5.5)\times10^9~L_\odot$ and detect the FIR continuum of 28 quasar hosts with a luminosity range of $L_{\rm FIR}=(0.5-13.0)\times10^{12}~L_\odot$. Both $L_{\rm [CII]}$ and $L_{\rm FIR}$ are correlated ($\rho\simeq0.4$) with the quasar bolometric luminosity, albeit with substantial scatter. The quasar hosts detected by ALMA are clearly resolved with a median diameter of $\sim$5 kpc. About 40% of the quasar host galaxies show a velocity gradient in [CII] emission, while the rest show either dispersion-dominated or disturbed kinematics. Basic estimates of the dynamical masses of the rotation-dominated host galaxies yield $M_{\rm dyn}=(0.1-7.5)\times10^{11}~M_\odot$. Considering our findings alongside those of literature studies, we found that the ratio between $M_{\rm BH}$ and $M_{\rm dyn}$ is about ten times higher than that of local $M_{\rm BH}-M_{\rm dyn}$ relation on average but with substantial scatter (the ratio difference ranging from $\sim$0.6 to 60) and large uncertainties., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ

Broad Absorption Line Quasars (BALQSOs) displaying distinct blue-shifted broad absorption lines. These serve as invaluable probes for unraveling the intricate structure and evolution of quasars, shedding light on the profound influence exerted by supermassive black holes on galaxy formation. The proliferation of large-scale spectroscopic surveys such as LAMOST, SDSS, and DESI has exponentially expanded the repository of quasar spectra at our disposal. In this study, we present an innovative approach to streamline the identification of BALQSOs, leveraging the power of dimensionality reduction and machine learning algorithms. Our dataset is curated from the SDSS DR16, amalgamating quasar spectra with classification labels sourced from the DR16Q quasar catalog. We employ a diverse array of dimensionality reduction techniques, including Principal Component Analysis (PCA), t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE), Locally Linear Embedding (LLE), and Isometric Mapping (ISOMAP), to distill the essence of the original spectral data. The resultant low-dimensional representations serve as inputs for a suite of machine learning classifiers, including XGBoost and Random Forest models. Through experimentation, we unveil PCA as the most effective dimensionality reduction methodology, adeptly navigating the intricate balance between dimensionality reduction and preservation of vital spectral information. Notably, the synergistic fusion of PCA with the XGBoost classifier emerges as the pinnacle of efficacy in the BALQSO classification endeavor, boasting impressive accuracy rates of 97.60% by 10-cross validation and 96.92% on the outer test sample. NGC 4395 is a dwarf Seyfert 1 galaxy with a possible intermediate-mass black hole of several $\rm{10^4}$ solar masses in its center. As a well-studied object, its broad line region size has been measured via H$\rm{\alpha}$ time lag in numerous spectroscopic reverberation mapping (SRM) and narrow-band photometric reverberation mapping (PRM) campaigns. Here we present its H$\rm{\alpha}$ time lag measurement using broad-band photometric data, with the application of our newly-developed ICCF-Cut method as well as the JAVELIN and $\chi ^2$ methods. utilizing the minute-cadence multi-band light curves obtained from the $\rm{2}$m FTN and $\rm{10.4}$m GTC telescopes in recent works, we measured its H$\rm{\alpha}$ lag as approximately $40 \sim 90$ minutes from broad-band PRM. With the H$\rm{\alpha}$ emission line velocity dispersion, we calculated its central black hole mass as $\rm M_{\rm BH} = (8\pm4) \times 10^3\, M_{\rm \odot}$. These results are comparable with previous results obtained by narrow-band PRM and SRM, providing further support to an intermediate-mass black hole in NGC 4395. The continuum reverberation mapping is widely used in studying accretion disk of active galactic nuclei (AGN). While some indirect evidence and simulations indicated that the diffuse continuum, especially the strong Balmer continuum from the broad line region (BLR), may contribute to the continuum in the u/U band. Here, we present direct evidence for this contribution. In this work, we apply the ICCF-Cut method to continuum reverberation mapping to extract the possible diffuse continuum light curves of 6 AGNs with high cadence, high quality and multi-band observations. We find the existence of an outer component out of the accretion disk for each of 6 AGNs in the Swift U band. Meanwhile, similar results can be derived by JAVELIN Photometric Reverberation Mapping Model for 4 of them. The lags of the outer components are consistent with the predicted Balmer continuum lags, which are about half of the H$\beta$ lag values. Our result directly reinforces that an outer component, especially the Balmer continuum in the rest-frame u/U band, can contribute significantly to the continuum reverberation lags of AGNs., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal

In our previous work on broadband photometric reverberation mapping (PRM), we proposed the ICCF-Cut process to obtain the time lags of H$\alpha$ emission line from two broadband lightcurves via subtracting the continuum emission from the line band. Extending the work, we enlarge our sample to the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) database. We adopt two criteria to select 123 type 1 AGNs with sufficient variability and smooth lightcurves from 3537 AGNs at $z<0.09$ with more than 100 epoch observations in the $g$ and $r$ bands from the ZTF database. We calculate the H$\alpha$ time lags for 23 of them which have previous spectroscopic reverberation mapping (SRM) results using ICCF-Cut, JAVELIN and $\chi ^2$ methods. Our obtained H$\alpha$ time lags are slightly larger than the H$\beta$ time lags, which is consistent with the previous SRM results and the theoretical model of the AGN broad line region. The comparisons between SRM and PRM lag distributions and between the subtracted emission line lightcurves indicate that after selecting AGNs with the two criteria, combining the ICCF-Cut, JAVELIN and $\chi^2$ methods provides an efficient way to get the reliable H$\alpha$ lags from the broadband PRM. Such techniques can be used to estimate the black hole masses of a large sample of AGNs in the large multi-epoch photometric sky surveys such as the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and the survey from the Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) in the near future., Comment: 23 pages, 34 figures, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal

We present an observational study of wind acceleration based on four low-ionization broad absorption line (LoBAL) quasars (J0136, J1238, J1259, J1344). J0136 and J1344 (group-1) are radio quiet and show large BAL-velocity shifts as opposed to stable line-locking associated absorption lines (AALs). Notably, J1344 displays a linear relation between BAL-velocity shift and time interval over three consecutive epochs, characteristic of compelling evidence for BAL acceleration. J1238 and J1259 (group 2) exhibit small BAL-velocity shifts along with steep-spectrum, weak radio emission at 3.0 and 1.4 GHz. All four quasars have spectral energy distributions (SEDs) with a peak at $\lambda_{\rm rest }\sim10~\mu$m, suggesting a link between the BAL acceleration and hot dust emission. The group-2 quasars are redder than group-1 quasars and have a steeper rise at $1<\lambda_{\rm rest }<3~\mu$m in their SEDs. All but J1238 exhibit a steep rise followed by a plateau-like time evolution in BAL-velocity shift. Our investigations, combined with previous studies of BAL acceleration, indicate that (1) the BAL-ISM coupling process is one of the major avenues for the origin of quasar reddening and patchy obscuration, (2) AAL outflows are ubiquitous and likely signify large-scale remnants of BAL winds coupled to interstellar medium (ISM), and (3) wind deceleration that is closely linked to the BAL-ISM coupling process may produce weak radio emission in otherwise radio-quiet quasars., Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in ApJS

Some high-z active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are found to reside in extreme star-forming galaxies, such as hyper-luminous infrared galaxies (HyLIRGs), with AGN-removed $L_{\rm{IR}}$ of $>10^{13} L_{\rm{\odot}}$. In this paper, we report NOEMA observations of six apparent starburst HyLIRGs associated with optical quasars at $z\sim2-3$ in the Stripe 82 field, to study their dust and molecular CO properties. Five out of the six candidates are detected with CO(4-3) or CO(5-4) emission, and four in 2mm dust continuum. Based on the linewidth-$L'_{\rm{CO(1-0)}}$ diagnostics, we find that four galaxies are likely unlensed or weakly lensed sources. The molecular gas mass is in the range of $\mu M_{\rm{H_2}} \sim0.8-9.7\times10^{10} M_{\odot}$ (with $\alpha = 0.8 M_{\odot} (\rm{K km s^{-1} pc^2})^{-1}$ and $\mu$ is the unknown possible gravitational magnification factor). We fit their SEDs, after including the observed 2mm fluxes and upper limits, and estimate their apparent (uncorrected for possible lensing effect) star formation rates ($\mu$SFRs) to be $\sim400-2500$ $M_{\rm{\odot}} \rm{yr^{-1}}$ with depletion time of $\sim20-110$ Myr. We notice interesting offsets, of $\sim10-40$ kpc spatially or $\sim1000-2000$ km s$^{-1}$ spectroscopically, between the optical quasar and the mm continuum or CO emissions. The observed velocity shift is likely related to the blueshifted broad-emission-line region of quasars, though mergers or recoiling black holes are also possible causes, which can explain the spatial offset and the high intrinsic SFRs in the HyLIRG-quasar systems., Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures, 7 tables. The pulse widths of fast radio bursts are always broadened due to the scattering of the plasma medium through which the electromagnetic wave passes. The recorded pulse width will be further affected by the radio telescopes since the sampling time and the bandwidth cannot be infinitely small. In this study, we focus on the pulse widths of the 3287 bursts detected from FRB 20121102A as of October 2023. Various effects such as the scattering broadening, the redshift broadening and the instrumental broadening are examined. It is found that the instrumental broadening only contributes a fraction of $10^{-3}$--$10^{-1}$ to the observed pulse width. The scattering broadening is even smaller, which constitutes a tiny fraction of $10^{-5}$--$10^{-2}$ in the observed pulse width. After correcting for these broadenings, the intrinsic pulse width is derived for each burst. The maximum and minimum pulse widths at different frequencies are highlighted. Interestingly, both the mean value and the dispersion range of intrinsic pulse width are found to be inversely proportional to the square of the central frequency. The intrinsic widths of most bursts are in a narrow range of 1--10 ms, which leads to a quasi-linear correlation between the fluence and the peak flux.

Axions or axion-like particles (ALPs) are one of the most promising candidates of dark matter (DM). A prevalent method to detect axion-like DM is to seek the periodic oscillation feature in the polarization angles of linearly polarized light emitted from astrophysical sources. In this work, we use the time-resolved polarization measurements of the hyperactive repeating fast radio burst, FRB 20220912A, detected by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) to search for extragalactic axion-like DM for the first time. Given a DM density profile of FRB 20220912A's host, we obtain upper limits on the ALP-photon coupling constant of $g_{a \gamma}<(2.9 \times 10^{-11}-1.1\times 10^{-9})\,\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$ for the ALP masses $m_a \sim (1.4\times10^{-21}-5.2\times10^{-20})$ eV. Persistent polarimetric observations with FAST would further improve the constraints. We prove that FRBs offer an alternative way to detect axion-like DM on extragalactic distance scales, complementary to other galactic DM probes., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

We present 206 unpublished optical spectra of 104 type II supernovae obtained by the Xinglong 2.16m telescope and Lijiang 2.4m telescope during the period from 2011 to 2018, spanning the phases from about 1 to 200 days after the SN explosion. The spectral line identifications, evolution of line velocities and pseudo equivalent widths, as well as correlations between some important spectral parameters are presented. Our sample displays a large range in expansion velocities. For instance, the Fe~{\sc ii} $5169$ velocities measured from spectra at $t\sim 50$ days after the explosion vary from ${\rm 2000\ km\ s^{-1}}$ to ${\rm 5500\ km\ s^{-1}}$, with an average value of ${\rm 3872 \pm 949\ km\ s^{-1}}$. Power-law functions can be used to fit the velocity evolution, with the power-law exponent quantifying the velocity decline rate. We found an anticorrelation existing between H$\beta$ velocity at mid-plateau phase and its velocity decay exponent, SNe II with higher velocities tending to have smaller velocity decay rate. Moreover, we noticed that the velocity decay rate inferred from the Balmer lines (i.e., H$\alpha$ and H$\beta$) have moderate correlations with the ratio of absorption to emission for H$\alpha$ (a/e). In our sample, two objects show possibly flash-ionized features at early phases. Besides, we noticed that multiple high-velocity components may exist on the blue side of hydrogen lines of SN 2013ab, possibly suggesting that these features arise from complex line forming region. The field of fast radio bursts (FRBs) has entered the age of fine characterization as observational results from different radio telescopes become more and more abundant. The large FRB sample is suitable for a statistical study. There is an interesting finding that the waiting-time distributions of very active repeating FRBs show a universal double-peaked feature, with left peaks lower than right ones. Assuming these two peaks are independent and initially comparable, we show that the observed asymmetric shape can be ascribed to the propagational effect in the magnetosphere. An FRB passing through the magnetized plasma will induce the circular motion of charged particles to form a current loop. This further leads to an induced magnetic field with opposite direction respect to the background field. As the effective field strength changes, the scattering absorption probability of the following FRB will be influenced. The absorption can be important under certain physical conditions and bursts with smaller time-lags are easier to be absorbed. The emergence of the first bilayer B48, which has been both theoretically predicted and experimentally observed, as well as the recent experimental synthesis of bilayer borophene on Ag and Cu, has generated tremendous curiosity in the bilayer structure of boron clusters. However, the connection between the bilayer cluster and the bilayer borophene remains unknown. By combining a genetic algorithm and density functional theory calculations, a global search for the low-energy structures of B63 clusters was conducted, revealing that the Cs bilayer structure with three interlayer B-B bonds was the most stable bilayer structure. This structure was further examined in terms of its structural stability, chemical bonding, and aromaticity. Interestingly, the interlayer bonds exhibited electronegativity and robust aromaticity. Furthermore, the double aromaticity stemmed from diatropic currents originating from virtual translational transitions at both the sigma and pi electrons. This new boron bilayer is anticipated to enrich the concept of double aromaticity and serve as a valuable precursor for bilayer borophene.

Particle-in-cell simulations have unveiled that shock-accelerated electrons do not follow a pure power-law distribution, but have an additional low-energy "thermal" part, which owns a considerable portion of the total energy of electrons. Investigating the effects of these thermal electrons on gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows may provide valuable insights into the particle acceleration mechanisms. We solve the continuity equation of electrons in the energy space, from which multi-wavelength afterglows are derived by incorporating processes including synchrotron radiation, synchrotron self-absorption, synchrotron self-Compton scattering, and gamma-gamma annihilation. First, there is an underlying positive correlation between temporal and spectral indices due to the cooling of electrons. Moreover, thermal electrons would result in the simultaneous non-monotonic variation in both spectral and temporal indices at multi-wavelength, which could be individually recorded by the 2.5-meter Wide Field Survey Telescope and Vera Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). The thermal electrons could also be diagnosed from afterglow spectra by synergy observation in the optical (with LSST) and X-ray bands (with the Microchannel X-ray Telescope on board the Space Variable Objects Monitor). Finally, we use Monte Carlo simulations to obtain the distribution of peak flux ratio ($R_{\rm X}$) between soft and hard X-rays, and of the time delay ($\Delta t$) between peak times of soft X-ray and optical light curves. The thermal electrons significantly raise the upper limits of both $R_{\rm X}$ and $\Delta t$. A complete and pure sample of quasars with accurate redshifts is crucial for quasar studies and cosmology. In this paper, we present CatNorth, an improved Gaia DR3 quasar candidate catalog with more than 1.5 million sources in the 3$\pi$ sky built with data from Gaia, Pan-STARRS1, and CatWISE2020. The XGBoost algorithm is used to reclassify the original Gaia DR3 quasar candidates as stars, galaxies, and quasars. To construct training/validation datasets for the classification, we carefully built two different master stellar samples in addition to the spectroscopic galaxy and quasar samples. An ensemble classification model is obtained by averaging two XGBoost classifiers trained with different master stellar samples. Using a probability threshold of $p_{\mathrm{QSO\_mean}}>0.95$ in our ensemble classification model and an additional cut on the logarithmic probability density of zero proper motion, we retrieved 1,545,514 reliable quasar candidates from the parent Gaia DR3 quasar candidate catalog. We provide photometric redshifts for all candidates with an ensemble regression model. For a subset of 89,100 candidates, accurate spectroscopic redshifts are estimated with the Convolutional Neural Network from the Gaia BP/RP spectra. The CatNorth catalog has a high purity of ~ 90% while maintaining high completeness, which is an ideal sample to understand the quasar population and its statistical properties. The CatNorth catalog is used as the main source of input catalog for the LAMOST phase III quasar survey, which is expected to build a highly complete sample of bright quasars with $i < 19.5$., Comment: 27 pages, 15 figures, accepted by ApJS. The accurate segmentation of Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) images holds substantial clinical value for the early detection and treatment of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). The Transformer, utilizing a self-attention mechanism, has demonstrated commendable performance in the realm of medical image processing. However, challenges persist in coronary segmentation tasks due to (1) the damage to target local structures caused by fixed-size image patch embedding, and (2) the critical role of both global and local features in medical image segmentation tasks.To address these challenges, we propose a deep learning framework, TransCC, that effectively amalgamates the Transformer and convolutional neural networks for CCTA segmentation. Firstly, we introduce a Feature Interaction Extraction (FIE) module designed to capture the characteristics of image patches, thereby circumventing the loss of semantic information inherent in the original method. Secondly, we devise a Multilayer Enhanced Perceptron (MEP) to augment attention to local information within spatial dimensions, serving as a complement to the self-attention mechanism. Experimental results indicate that TransCC outperforms existing methods in segmentation performance, boasting an average Dice coefficient of 0.730 and an average Intersection over Union (IoU) of 0.582. These results underscore the effectiveness of TransCC in CCTA image segmentation.

Time-domain astronomy is progressing rapidly with the ongoing and upcoming large-scale photometric sky surveys led by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory project (LSST). Billions of variable sources call for better automatic classification algorithms for light curves. Among them, periodic variable stars are frequently studied. Different categories of periodic variable stars have a high degree of class imbalance and pose a challenge to algorithms including deep learning methods. We design two kinds of architectures of neural networks for the classification of periodic variable stars in the Catalina Survey's Data Release 2: a multi-input recurrent neural network (RNN) and a compound network combing the RNN and the convolutional neural network (CNN). To deal with class imbalance, we apply Gaussian Process to generate synthetic light curves with artificial uncertainties for data augmentation. For better performance, we organize the augmentation and training process in a "bagging-like" ensemble learning scheme. The experimental results show that the better approach is the compound network combing RNN and CNN, which reaches the best result of 86.2% on the overall balanced accuracy and 0.75 on the macro F1 score. We develop the ensemble augmentation method to solve the data imbalance when classifying variable stars and prove the effectiveness of combining different representations of light curves in a single model. Accretion of black holes at near-Eddington or super-Eddington rates is the most powerful episode that drives black hole growth, and it may work in several types of objects. However, the physics of accretion and jet-disc coupling in such a state remains unclear, mainly because the associated jets are not easily detectable due to the extremely weak emission or possibly episodic nature of the jets. Only a few near/super-Eddington systems have demonstrated radio activity, and it remains unclear whether there is a jet and what are their properties, in super-Eddington active galactic nuclei (AGNs) (and ultraluminous X-ray sources). The deficit is mainly due to the complex radio mixing between the origins of jets and others, such as star formation activity, photo-ionized gas, accretion disk wind, and coronal activity. In this work, we conducted high-resolution very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations to explore the jets in the highly accreting narrow-line Seyfert I system IZw1. Our observations successfully revealed small-scale jets (with a linear size of $\sim45$ parsec) at both 1.5 and 5 GHz, based on the high radio brightness temperature, radio morphology, and spectral index distribution. Interestingly, the lack of a flat-spectrum radio core and knotty jet structures imply episodic ejections in IZw1, which resemble the ejection process in Galactic X-ray binaries that are in the canonical very high state. The environment of gamma-ray burst (GRB) has an important influence on the evolution of jet dynamics and of its afterglow. Here we investigate the afterglow polarizations in a stratified medium with the equal arrival time surface (EATS) effect. Polarizations of multi-band afterglows are predicted. The effects of the parameters of the stratified medium on the afterglow polarizations are also investigated. We found the influences of the EATS effect on the afterglow polarizations become important for off-axis detections and PD bumps move to later times with the EATS effect. Even the magnetic field configurations, jet structure and observational angles are fixed, polarization properties of the jet emission could still evolve. Here, we assume a large-scale ordered magnetic field in the reverse-shock region and a two-dimensional random field in the forward-shock region. Then PD evolution is mainly determined by the evolution of $f_{32}$ parameter (the flux ratio between the reverse-shock region and forward-shock region) at early stage and by the evolution of the bulk Lorentz factor $\gamma$ at late stage. Through the influences on the $f_{32}$ or $\gamma$, the observational energy band, observational angles, and the parameters of the stratified medium will finally affect the afterglow polarizations., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, accepted by ApJ

Astrophysical events that occur in active galactic nucleus (AGN) disks are believed to differ significantly from the ordinary in the interstellar medium. We show that stars located in the outer region of the AGN disk would explode near the original migration starting points instead of being accreted by the central supermassive black hole due to the effect of viscosity. AGN disks provide a dense environment for supernova (SN) explosions, which inevitably involve ejecta-disk interactions. In this paper, we investigate the light curves (LCs) of core-collapse SN exploded in AGN disks. In addition to the fundamental energy source of $^{56} \mathrm{Ni}$--$^{56} \mathrm{Co}$--$^{56} \mathrm{Fe}$ decay reaction powering the SN LCs, the forward-reverse shock produced during interactions may contribute significantly to the observed flux. If the stellar winds manage to create a cavity surrounded by a shell near the star before the SN explosion, the ejecta-winds-disk configurations are expected. We present various SN LCs from different types of progenitors and find that the SN LCs are dominated by the radiation of ejecta-disk interaction-induced shocks. The resulting SNe in the AGN disk is a promising transient source for UV and optical band detection by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (Swift), the Ultraviolet Explorer (UVEX) and wide field survey telescopes such as Ultraviolet Transient Astronomy Satellite (ULTRASAT), Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) and Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Fast radio bursts (FRBs) have been suggested as an excellent celestial laboratory for testing the zero-mass hypothesis of the photon. In this work, we use the dispersion measure (DM)--redshift measurements of 23 localized FRBs to revisit the photon rest mass $m_{\gamma}$. As an improvement over previous studies, here we take into account the more realistic probability distributions of DMs contributed by the FRB host galaxy and intergalactic medium (IGM) from the IllustrisTNG simulation. To better account for the systematic uncertainty induced by the choices of priors of cosmological parameters, we also combine the FRB data with the cosmic microwave background data, the baryon acoustic oscillation data, and type Ia supernova data to constrain the cosmological parameters and $m_{\gamma}$ simultaneously. We derive a new upper limit of $m_{\gamma}\le3.8\times 10^{-51}\;\rm{kg}$, or equivalently $m_{\gamma}\le2.1 \times 10^{-15} \, \rm{eV/c^2}$ ($m_{\gamma} \le 7.2 \times 10^{-51} \, \rm{kg}$, or equivalently $m_{\gamma}\le4.0 \times 10^{-15} \, \rm{eV/c^2}$) at $1\sigma$ ($2\sigma$) confidence level. Meanwhile, our analysis can also lead to a reasonable estimation for the IGM baryon fraction $f_{\rm IGM}=0.873^{+0.061}_{-0.050}$. With the number increment of localized FRBs, the constraints on both $m_{\gamma}$ and $f_{\rm IGM}$ will be further improved. The formation of the first supermassive black holes is expected to have occurred in some most pronounced matter and galaxy overdensities in the early universe. We have conducted a sub-mm wavelength continuum survey of 54 $z\sim6$ quasars using the Submillimeter Common-User Bolometre Array-2 (SCUBA2) on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) to study the environments around $z \sim 6$ quasars. We identified 170 submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) with above 3.5$\sigma$ detections at 450 or 850 \um\, maps. Their FIR luminosities are 2.2 - 6.4 $\times$ 10$^{12} L_{\odot}$, and star formation rates are $\sim$ 400 - 1200 M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$. We also calculated the SMGs differential and cumulative number counts in a combined area of $\sim$ 620 arcmin$^2$. To a $4\sigma$ detection (at $\sim$ 5.5 mJy), SMGs overdensity is $0.68^{+0.21}_{-0.19}$($\pm0.19$), exceeding the blank field source counts by a factor of 1.68. We find that 13/54 quasars show overdensities (at $\sim$ 5.5 mJy) of $\delta_{SMG}\sim$ 1.5 - 5.4. The combined area of these 13 quasars exceeds the blank field counts with the overdensity to 5.5 mJy of \dsmg $\sim$ $2.46^{+0.64}_{-0.55}$($\pm0.25$) in the regions of $\sim$ 150 arcmin$^2$. However, the excess is insignificant on the bright end (e.g., 7.5 mJy). We also compare results with previous environmental studies of Lyman alpha emitters (LAEs) and Lyman-Break Galaxies (LBGs) on a similar scale. Our survey presents the first systematic study of the environment of quasars at $z\sim6$. Broadband photometric reverberation mapping (PRM) have been investigated for AGNs in recent years, but mostly on accretion disk continuum RM. Due to the small fraction of broad emission lines in the broadband, PRM for emission lines is very challenging. Here we present an ICCF-Cut method for broadband PRM to obtain the H$\alpha$ broad line lag and apply it to four Seyfert 1 galaxies, MCG+08-11-011, NGC 2617, 3C 120 and NGC 5548. All of them have high quality broadband lightcurves with daily/sub-daily cadence, which enables us to extract H$\alpha$ lightcurves from the line band by subtracting the contributions from the continuum and host galaxy. Their extracted H$\alpha$ lightcurves are compared with the lagged continuum band lightcurves, as well as the lagged H$\beta$ lightcurves obtained by spectroscopic RM (SRM) at the same epochs. The consistency of these lightcurves and the comparison with the SRM H$\beta$ lags provide supports to the H$\alpha$ lags of these AGNs, in a range from 9 to 19 days, obtained by the ICCF-Cut, JAVELIN and $\chi^2$ methods. The simulations to evaluate the reliability of H$\alpha$ lags and the comparisons between SRM H$\beta$ and PRM H$\alpha$ lags indicate that the consistency of the ICCF-Cut, JAVELIN and $\chi^2$ results can ensure the reliability of the derived H$\alpha$ lags. These methods may be used to estimate the broad line region sizes and black hole masses of a large sample of AGNs in the large multi-epoch high cadence photometric surveys such as LSST in the future., Comment: 22 pages, 19 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Hyperluminous optical-ultraviolet fares have been detected in gamma-ray bursts and the luminosity record was held by naked-eye event GRB 080319B. Such fares are widely attributed to internal shock or external reverse shock radiation. Here, with a new method developed to derive reliable photometry from saturated sources of Swift/UVOT, we carry out time-resolved analysis of the initial white-band 150s exposure of GRB 220101A, a burst at a redshift of 4.618, and report a rapidly evolving optical-ultraviolet fare with a high absolute AB magnitude of -39.4$\pm$0.2. In contrast to GRB 080319B, the temporal behaviour of this new fare does not trace the gamma-ray activity. Instead of either internal shocks or reverse shock, this extremely energetic optical-ultraviolet fare is most likely to originate from the refreshed shocks induced by the late-ejected extremely energetic material catching up with the earlier-launched decelerating outflow. Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are highly dispersed millisecond-duration radio bursts, of which the physical origin is still not fully understood. FRB 20201124A is one of the most actively repeating FRBs. In this paper, we present the collection of 1863 burst dynamic spectra of FRB 20201124A measured with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The current collection, taken from the observation during the FRB active phase from April to June 2021, is the largest burst sample detected in any FRB so far. The standard PSRFITs format is adopted, including dynamic spectra of the burst, and the time information of the dynamic spectra, in addition, mask files help readers to identify the pulse positions are also provided.

We report the fourth installment in the series of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Quasar Survey, which includes quasars observed between September, 2017 and June, 2021. There are in total 13,066 quasars reliably identified, of which 6,685 are newly discovered that are not reported in the SDSS DR14 quasar catalog or Million Quasars catalog. Because LAMOST does not provide accurate absolute flux calibration, we re-calibrate the spectra with the SDSS/Pan-STARRS1 multi-band photometric data. The emission line properties of H$\alpha$, H$\beta$, Mg\,{\sc ii} and C\,{\sc iv}, and the continuum luminosities are measured by fitting the re-calibrated spectra. We also estimate the single-epoch virial black hole masses ($\rm M_{BH}$) using the derived emission line and continuum parameters. This is the first time that the emission line and continuum fluxes were estimated based on LAMOST re-calibrated quasar spectra. The catalog and spectra for these quasars are available online. After the nine-year LAMOST quasar survey, there are in total 56,175 identified quasars, of which 24,127 are newly discovered. The sample of time-delay gravitational lenses appropriate for studying the geometry of the Universe continues to grow as dedicated campaigns, such as the Dark Energy Survey, the VST ATLAS survey, and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, complete their census of high-redshift sources. This catalog now includes hundreds of strong lensing systems, at least 31 of which have reasonably accurate time delay measurements. In this paper, we use them to compare the predictions of two competing Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker models: flat LCDM, characterized by two adjustable parameters (H_0 and Omega_m), and the R_h=ct universe (with H_0 as the single free variable). Over the past decade, the latter has accounted for the data better than the standard model, most recently the emergence of well-formed galaxies discovered by JWST at cosmic dawn. Here we show that the current sample of time-delay lenses favours R_h=ct with a likelihood of ~84% versus ~16% for the standard model. This level of accuracy will greatly improve as the ongoing surveys uncover many thousands additional lens systems over the next several years., Comment: 8 pages, 1 table, 4 figures. The accurate estimation of photometric redshifts plays a crucial role in accomplishing science objectives of the large survey projects. The template-fitting and machine learning are the two main types of methods applied currently. Based on the training set obtained by cross-correlating the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys DR9 galaxy catalogue and SDSS DR16 galaxy catalogue, the two kinds of methods are used and optimized, such as EAZY for template-fitting approach and CATBOOST for machine learning. Then the created models are tested by the cross-matched samples of the DESI Legacy Imaging SurveysDR9 galaxy catalogue with LAMOST DR7, GAMA DR3 and WiggleZ galaxy catalogues. Moreover three machine learning methods (CATBOOST, Multi-Layer Perceptron and Random Forest) are compared, CATBOOST shows its superiority for our case. By feature selection and optimization of model parameters, CATBOOST can obtain higher accuracy with optical and infrared photometric information, the best performance ($MSE=0.0032$, $\sigma_{NMAD}=0.0156$ and $O=0.88$ per cent) with $g \le 24.0$, $r \le 23.4$ and $z \le 22.5$ is achieved. But EAZY can provide more accurate photometric redshift estimation for high redshift galaxies, especially beyond the redhisft range of training sample. Empirical correlations between various key parameters have been extensively explored ever since the discovery of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and have been widely used as standard candles to probe the Universe. The Amati relation and the Yonetoku relation are two good examples that enjoyed special attention. The former reflects the connection between the peak photon energy (Ep) and the isotropic $\gamma$-ray energy release (Eiso), while the latter links Ep with the isotropic peak luminosity (Lp), both in the form of a power-law function. Most GRBs are found to follow these correlations well, but a theoretical interpretation is still lacking. Some obvious outliers may be off-axis GRBs and may follow correlations that are different from those at the on-axis. Here we present a simple analytical derivation for the Amati relation and the Yonetoku relation in the framework of the standard fireball model, the correctness of which is then confirmed by numerical simulations. The off-axis Amati relation and Yonetoku relation are also derived. They differ markedly from the corresponding on-axis relation. Our results reveal the intrinsic physics behind the radiation processes of GRBs, and they highlight the importance of the viewing angle in the empirical correlations of GRBs., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables. We investigate the possible presence of quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) signals in 2103 blazars from the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) time-domain survey. We detect a low-frequency QPO signal in five blazars observed over these 3.8-year-long optical r-band ZTF light curves. These periods range from 144 days to 196 days detected at $\gtrsim 4\sigma$ significance levels in both the Lomb-Scargle periodogram and Weighted Wavelet Z-transform analyses. We find consistent results using the phase dispersion minimization technique. A similar peak is detected in the g-band light curves at a slightly lower significance of 3$\sigma$. Such nearly periodic signals on these timescales in optical wavebands most likely originate from a precessing jet with high Lorentz factor, closely aligned to the observer's line of sight or the movement of plasma blobs along a helical structure in the jet., Comment: Submitted to MNRAS, 15 pages, 10 figures, 2 tables

The observed spectral lags of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been widely used to explore possible violations of Lorentz invariance. However, these studies were generally performed by concentrating on the rough time lag of a single highest-energy photon and ignoring the intrinsic time lag at the source. A new way to test nonbirefringent Lorentz-violating effects has been proposed by analyzing the multi-photon spectral-lag behavior of a GRB that displays a positive-to-negative transition. This method gives both a plausible description of the intrinsic energy-dependent time lag and comparatively robust constraints on Lorentz-violating effects. In this work, we conduct a systematic search for Lorentz-violating photon dispersion from the spectral-lag transition features of 32 GRBs. By fitting the spectral-lag data of these 32 GRBs, we place constraints on a variety of isotropic and anisotropic Lorentz-violating coefficients with mass dimension $d=6$ and $8$. We study the demographics of z ~ 6 broad-line quasars in the black hole (BH) mass-luminosity plane using a sample of more than 100 quasars at 5.7 < z < 6.5. These quasars have well quantified selection functions and nearly one third of them also have virial BH masses estimated from near-IR spectroscopy. We use forward modeling of parameterized intrinsic distributions of BH masses and Eddington ratios, and account for the sample flux limits and measurement uncertainties of the BH masses and luminosities. We find significant differences between the intrinsic and observed distributions of the quantities due to measurement uncertainties and sample flux limits. There is also marginal evidence that the virial BH masses are susceptible to a positive luminosity-dependent bias (BH mass is overestimated when luminosity is above the average), and that the mean Eddington ratio increases with BH mass. Our models provide reliable constraints on the z ~ 6 black hole mass function at M_BH > 10^8.5 M_Sun, with a median 1-sigma uncertainty of ~0.5 dex in abundance. The intrinsic Eddington ratio distribution of M_BH > 10^8.5 M_Sun quasars can be approximated by a mass-dependent Schechter model, with a broad peak around log(L_bol/L_Edd}) ~ -0.9. We also find that, at 4.5 < z < 6, the number densities of more massive BHs tend to decline more rapidly with increasing redshift, contrary to the trend at 2.5 < z < 4.5 reported previously., Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures; accepted for publication in MNRAS

Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been discussed as a potential tool to probe the cosmic star formation rate (SFR) for a long time. Some studies found an enhancement in the GRB rate relative to the galaxy-inferred SFR at high redshifts, which indicates that GRBs may not be good tracers of star formation. However, in these studies, the GRB rate measured at any redshift is an average over all galaxies at that epoch. A deep understanding of the connection between GRB production and environment also needs to characterize the population of GRB host galaxies directly. Based on a complete sample of GRB hosts, we constrain the stellar-mass function (SMF) of GRB hosts, and examine redshift evolution in the GRB host population. Our results confirm that a strong redshift evolution in energy (with an evolution index of $\delta=2.47^{+0.73}_{-0.89}$) or in density ($\delta=1.82^{+0.22}_{-0.59}$) is needed in order to account for the observations. The GRB host SMF can be well described by the Schechter function with a power-law index $\xi\approx-1.10$ and a break mass $M_{b,0}\approx4.9\times10^{10}$ ${\rm M}_\odot$, independent of the assumed evolutionary effects. This is the first formulation of the GRB host SMF. Tight limits on the photon mass have been set through analyzing the arrival time differences of photons with different frequencies originating from the same astrophysical source. However, all these constraints have relied on using the first-order Taylor expansion of the dispersion due to a nonzero photon mass. In this work, we present an analysis of the nonzero photon mass dispersion with the second-order derivative of Taylor series. If the arrival time delay corrected for all known effects (including the first-order delay time due to the plasma and photon mass effects) is assumed to be dominated by the second-order term of the nonzero photon mass dispersion, a conservative upper limit on the photon mass can be estimated. Here we show that the dedispersed pulses with the second-order time delays from the Crab pulsar and the fast radio burst FRB 180916B pose strict limits on the photon mass, i.e., $m_{\gamma,2} \leq5.7\times10^{-46}\;{\rm kg}\simeq3.2\times10^{-10}\; {\rm eV}/c^{2}$ and $m_{\gamma,2} \leq6.0\times10^{-47}\;{\rm kg}\simeq3.4\times10^{-11}\; {\rm eV}/c^{2}$, respectively. Cosmic (hydrogen) reionization marks one of the major phase transitions of the universe at redshift z >= 6. During this epoch, hydrogen atoms in the intergalactic medium (IGM) were ionized by Lyman continuum (LyC) photons. However, it remains challenging to identify the major sources of the LyC photons responsible for reionization. In particular, individual contributions of quasars (or active galactic nuclei, AGNs) and galaxies are still under debate. Here we construct the far-ultraviolet (far-UV) luminosity function for type 1 quasars at z >= 6 that spans 10 magnitudes (-19 < M_UV < -29), conclusively showing that quasars made a negligible contribution to reionization. We mainly search for quasars in the low-luminosity range of M_UV > -23 mag that is critical to determine quasars' total LyC photon production but has been barely explored previously. We find that the quasar population can only provide less than 7% (95% confidence level) of the total photons needed to keep the universe ionized at z = 6.0 - 6.6. We propose to develop a wide-field and ultra-high-precision photometric survey mission, temporarily named "Earth 2.0 (ET)". This mission is designed to measure, for the first time, the occurrence rate and the orbital distributions of Earth-sized planets. ET consists of seven 30cm telescopes, to be launched to the Earth-Sun's L2 point. Six of these are transit telescopes with a field of view of 500 square degrees. Staring in the direction that encompasses the original Kepler field for four continuous years, this monitoring will return tens of thousands of transiting planets, including the elusive Earth twins orbiting solar-type stars. The seventh telescope is a 30cm microlensing telescope that will monitor an area of 4 square degrees toward the galactic bulge. This, combined with simultaneous ground-based KMTNet observations, will measure masses for hundreds of long-period and free-floating planets. Together, the transit and the microlensing telescopes will revolutionize our understandings of terrestrial planets across a large swath of orbital distances and free space. Quasars behind the Galactic plane (GPQs) are important astrometric references and valuable probes of Galactic gas, yet the search for GPQs is difficult due to severe extinction and source crowding in the Galactic plane. In this paper, we present a sample of 204 spectroscopically confirmed GPQs at |b|<20{\deg}, 191 of which are new discoveries. This GPQ sample covers a wide redshift range from 0.069 to 4.487. For the subset of 230 observed GPQ candidates, the lower limit of the purity of quasars is 85.2%, and the lower limit of the fraction of stellar contaminants is 6.1%. Using a multicomponent spectral fitting, we measure the emission line and continuum flux of the GPQs, and estimate their single-epoch virial black hole masses. Due to selection effects raised from Galactic extinction and target magnitude, these GPQs have higher black hole masses and continuum luminosities in comparison to the SDSS DR7 quasar sample. The spectral-fitting results and black hole mass estimates are compiled into a main spectral catalog, and an extended spectral catalog of GPQs. The successful identifications prove the reliability of both our GPQ selection methods and the GPQ candidate catalog, shedding light on the astrometric and astrophysical programs that make use of a large sample of GPQs in the future., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures, published in ApJS.
