The new requirements in some universities to publish abroad in internationally recognized journals raise some significant challenges with respect to the use of proper scientific language in a foreign language. This paper aims to address some common mistakes in translating geographical texts from Romanian to English. When writing in English scientists should be aware that there are several styles of academic writing and should edit their paper according to the specifications of a certain style. The Annals of the Association of American Geographers recommends the use of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS). The CMS has detailed examples on how to quote from different sources: books, journals, magazines, newspapers, online sites etc. In this article we shall give a short summary of some of its most important points. We continue our argumentation by exemplifying how a scientist could achieve objectivity, clarity and precision when writing in English by using passive voice, by hedging, by avoiding the use of "I", of repetition, redundancy and overlong subjects. We shall conclude by addressing the problematic translation of some geographical terms from Romanian to English, terms like "amenajarea teritoriului", "dotāri publice", "intravilan", "extravilan". The present paper looks at the way in which political and scientific frameworks, as well as everyday life dynamics work to exclude people living with intellectual disability (ID) in Romania from political life and how these dynamics could be overcome through crafting communicative-dialogic pedagogical interventions geared at political inclusion. I argue that the political exclusion of people with ID is built into the formal political order, as well as doubled by a twofold infantilizing dynamic. On the one hand, the scientific and academic psycho-pedagogical discourse still operates with classifications that inscribe people with ID with chronological “normal” ages inferior to their biological age. Their subject position is thus “fixed” at an age below the voting limited. This move is seconded by the way in which (formerly) institutionalized people with ID are referred to as “children” (despite their fully adult ages) in a small (post)institutional town, as well as in other care settings that I have explored ethnographically. Finally, the paper explores the stepping stones of alternative interventions, built on a communicative-dialogic methodology for politically including people with ID that could work to overcome the infantilizing dynamics. The paper presents an overview on Hirsch-index applications that can be found in the literature. Different possibilities of using the Hirsch-index for the assessment of the scientific output of a country, university, research institute, medicine, specialists or academic journals are presented. On the other hand we have examined the Valahia University of Targoviste (UVT) researchers' scientific productivity and we found a lack of correlation with the scientific research activity attributed to the institution. The energy-related issues have become of paramount importance in recent years due to the exhaustion of fossil fuel resources, their price variations and political dependence on nations with role of energy providers. In addition, the changing in climate conditions requires reduction emissions of greenhouse gases. Therefore, this paper proposes and assesses the novel idea of using constructions as a unit of analysis for corpus-based discourse analysis in the energy field. This article will use a standard method in linguistics to quantitatively investigate academic writings from both a lexical and a stylistic perspective. The present research paper aims to add to the knowledge about energy issues by conducting a data-driven analysis of economic academic discourse, through three periods of time and using secondary data analysis. The findings suggest the evolution of the energy sector throughout time and they gave interesting and different insights into the content of the discourses and enabled better comparison of corpora.
