Background and Objectives: In this paper, a novel structure as a Folded-Mirror (FM) Trans-impedance Amplifier (TIA) is designed and introduced for the first time based on the combination of the current-mirror and the folded-cascade topologies. The trans-impedance amplifier stage is the most critical building block in a receiver system. This novel proposed topology is based on the combination of the current mirror topology and the folded-cascade topology, which is designed using active elements. The idea is to use a current mirror topology at the input node. In the proposed circuit, unlike many other reported designs, the signal current (and not the voltage) is being amplified till it reaches the output node. The proposed TIA benefits from a low input resistance, due to the use of a diode-connected transistor, as part of the current mirror topology, which helps to isolate the dominant input capacitance. So, as a result, the data rate of 5Gbps is obtained by consuming considerably low power. Also, the designed circuit employs only six active elements, which yields a small occupied chip area, while providing 40.6dBΩ of trans-impedance gain, 3.55GHz frequency bandwidth, and 664nArms input-referred noise by consuming only 315µW power using a 1V supply. Results justify the proper performance of the proposed circuit structure as a low-power TIA stage. Methods: The proposed topology is based on the combination of the current mirror topology and the folded-cascade topology. The circuit performance of the proposed folded-mirror TIA is simulated using 90nm CMOS technology parameters in the Hspice software. Furthermore, the Monte-Carlo analysis over the size of widths and lengths of the transistors is performed for 200runs, to analyze the fabrication process. Results: The proposed FM TIA circuit provides 40.6dBΩ trans-impedance gain and 3.55GHz frequency bandwidth, while, consuming only 315µW power using a 1V supply. Besides, as analyzing the quality of the output signal in the receiver circuits for communication applications is vital, the eye-diagram of the proposed FM TIA for a 50µA input signal is opened about 5mV, while, for a 100µA input signal the eye is opened vertically about 10mV. So, the vertical and horizontal opening of the eye is clearly shown. Furthermore, Monte-Carlo analysis over the trans-impedance gain represents a normal distribution with the mean value of 40.6dBΩ and standard deviation of 0.4dBΩ. Also, the value of the input resistance of the FM TIA is equal to 84.4Ω at low frequencies and reaches the value of 75Ω at -3dB frequency. The analysis of the effect of the feedback network on the value of the input resistance demonstrates the input resistance in the absence of the feedback network reaches up to 1.4MΩ, which yields the importance of the existence of the feedback network to obtain a broadband system. Conclusion: In this paper, a trans-impedance amplifier based on a combination of the current-mirror topology and the folded-cascade topology is presented, which amplifies the current signal and converts it to the voltage at the output node. Due to the existence of a diode-connected transistor at the input node, the input resistance of the TIA is comparatively small. Furthermore, four out of six transistors are PMOS transistors, which represent less thermal noise in comparison with NMOS transistors. Also, the proposed Folded-Mirror topology occupies a relatively small area on-chip, due to the fact that no passive element is used in the feedforward network. Wideband radio frequency (RF) channelization is essential for the reception and detection of cross-band RF signals in various applications, including communications, radar, and spectrum sensing. However, digital channelizers are inefficient at performing RF channelization over a working bandwidth above 10 GHz. Meanwhile, current photonic RF channelizers face challenges in simultaneously considering a wideband, multi-channel, and a high crosstalk suppression ratio. In this work, we proposed and demonstrated a wideband image-reject RF channelization scheme based on integrated dual-soliton microcombs. The dual-soliton microcombs are used for RF spectral copies and heterodyne detection, respectively. Supported by image-reject mixers, the RF channelization is verified with an 8–37 GHz working bandwidth, a 1.2 GHz channel bandwidth, and 25 channels. The image suppression ratio is higher than 34 dB for single-tone signals and 20 dB for wideband signals. Our approach provides an innovative architecture of integrated photonic RF channelizers with high performance, which can benefit a wide range of RF applications by miniaturizing the systems. In this paper, the method for the design automation of a narrow band-pass amplifier, and hence the amplifier tuned oscillator is discussed. A fixator approach is utilized in this method to design the narrow band-pass amplifiers and a reference circuit is required for this process. The fixator–norator pair helps to generate an extra sub-circuit, generally the feedback network; the addition of this sub-circuit in the actual amplifier circuit will modify the frequency response of the amplifier. The amplifier now behaves like an active narrow band-pass filter, which exactly follows the frequency response of the model circuit. This can be turned into an oscillator by providing positive feedback. Such a circuit possesses independent frequency and amplitude control. Hence, the re-designed circuit can be employed as an active filter or an oscillator at the selected center frequency. This paper investigates an optimization of the conventional relay selection for multirelay environments. In contrast with previously reported selection schemes, where a selected relay accesses the channel in a dedicated cooperative slot, the proposed scheme recovers the bandwidth loss of the half-duplex constraint by allowing two relays to simultaneously access the channels. Based on an appropriate dirty-paper coding (DPC) technique among relays, the proposed scheme enables a relay to establish communication with the destination at the same time that another relay forwards the data from the source. It is proven that the interplay between relay selection and the superposition DPC weight factor provides a tradeoff between relaying and new data performance. Hence, an appropriate codesign of the superposition DPC parameter and opportunistic relay selection can achieve efficient communication for the new data without affecting the relaying performance. A wideband Rayleigh fading channel is considered with causal channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter and no receiver CSI. A simple orthogonal code with energy detection rule at the receiver (similar to pulse position modulation in IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, vol. 46, no. 4, Apr. 2000 and IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, vol. 52 no. 5, May 2006) is shown to achieve the capacity of this channel in the wideband limit. This strategy transmits energy only when the channel gain exceeds a threshold, hence only needs causal transmitter CSI. In the wideband limit, this capacity without any receiver CSI is the same as the capacity with full receiver CSI, which is proportional to the logarithm of the bandwidth. Similar threshold-based pulse position modulation is shown to achieve the capacity per unit cost of the dirty-tape channel (dirty paper channel with causal transmitter CSI and no receiver CSI), which equals its capacity per unit cost with full receiver CSI. Then, a general discrete channel with i.i.d. states is considered. Each input has an associated cost and a zero cost input “0” exists. The channel state is assumed to be known at the transmitter in a causal manner. Capacity per unit cost is found for this channel and a simple orthogonal code is shown to achieve this capacity. Later, a novel orthogonal coding scheme is proposed for the case of causal transmitter CSI and a condition for equivalence of capacity per unit cost for causal and noncausal transmitter CSI is derived. Torsional oscillations bound the velocity loop bandwidth (BW) of industrial drives and servo systems, deteriorating the transient response to commands and disturbances. This is especially harmful in multidrive systems like paper machines that need to run synchronized. This paper presents two methods to dynamically compensate the torsional oscillations produced by the compliant components between the motor and the load: either a notch filter or an acceleration feedback based on the rigid-body Luenberger observer. The evaluation includes the effect of reducer backlash, whereby both time and frequency domain responses are used to compare the benefits of each technique in a typical paper machine section. The atmospheric Unified Model (UM) developed at the UK Met Office is used for weather and climate prediction by forecast teams at a number of international meteorological centres and research institutes on a wide variety of hardware and software environments. Over its 25 year history the UM sources have been optimised for a better application performance on a number of HPC systems including NEC SX vector architecture systems and recently the IBM Power6/Power7 platforms. Understanding the influence of the compiler flags, MPI libraries and run configurations is crucial to achieving the shortest elapsed times for a UM application on any particular HPC system. These aspects are very important for applications that must run within operational time frames. Driving the current study is the HPC industry trend since 1980 for processor arithmetic performance to increase at a faster rate than memory bandwidth. This gap has been growing especially fast for multicore processors in the past 10years and it can have significant implication for the performance and performance scaling of memory bandwidth intensive applications, such as the UM. Analysis of partially used nodes on Intel Xeon clusters is provided in this paper for short and medium range weather forecasting systems using global and limited-area configurations. This paper describes a 2-stage tactic for achieving an odd-order variable-bandwidth (OO-VBW) filter with absolutely guaranteed stability. The design methodology aims to minimize the p-norm amplitude-response error while maintaining the OO-VBW-filter's stability. In order to tune OO-VBW filter's amplitude response, we utilize a kind of functions of the bandwidth (BW)-tuning parameter to express the filter's coefficients. Because those functions have changeable function values, the designed OO-VBW-filter's amplitude response possesses variability. Another important concern in this paper is the stability issue. When the filter coefficient values expressed as function values are changed, the OO-VBW filter that has feedback structures may become unstable. This necessitates that the OO-VBW-filter's stability must always be preserved during real-time tuning. In order to stabilize such an OO-VBW filter that has feedback structures, a coefficient-conversion (CC) algorithm is adopted, and it is incorporated into the 2-stage methodology for obtaining the OO-VBW filter. To illustrate both the stability and high approximation accuracy, the design of an OO-VBW bandpass filter is simulated. In order to solve the requirements of multi-channel communication applications, this paper proposes a miniaturized dualpassband substrate integrated waveguide filter with asymmetric passband response. The design uses a half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) cavity, which is loaded with a back-to-back complementary open resonant ring (CSRR) according to the vanishing mode propagation theory to generate a passband response lower than the HMSIW basic mode TE101, further reducing the cavity size. In addition, the band-resistive characteristics of the single-ring structure of the CSRR resonator are analyzed, and a C-slot is added at the feeder to improve the out-of-band characteristics of the second passband. Through simulation optimization and testing, the center frequency of the dual-passband filter is 4.05 GHz/8.64 GHz; the relative bandwidth is 16%/44%, the insertion loss of both passbands is better than 0.8 dB; the physical test results are consistent with the simulation ones; and the size of the filter is only 0.42λg × 0.14λg. It shows that the proposed filter has the characteristics of small size and low loss, and can be widely used in multi-channel RF front-end systems in the field of wireless communication. The paper proposes an ultra-wideband frequency selective rasorber (FSR) with low infrared emissivity for the composite detection threat of both radars and infrared sensors. Firstly, the equivalent circuit (EC) method based on transmission line (TL) theory is utilized to analyze the absorption/transmission conditions. Then, based on the analysis above, sinusoidal microstrip lines with non-frequency-varying characteristics are adopted in the design, which significantly enhances the transmission bandwidth of FSR. The FSR demonstrates an absorption band ranging from 2.65 GHz to 8.80 GHz and a transmission band ranging from 9.15 GHz to 17.71 GHz. Furthermore, an infrared shielding layer (IRSL) exhibiting low emissivity in the infrared band and high transmittance in the microwave band is applied to the FSR. The simulation and experiment results verify that the IRSL-FSR demonstrates an ultra-wide transmission band ranging from 9.16 GHz to 17.94 GHz and an ultra-wide absorption band ranging from 2.66 GHz to 8.01 GHz. Additionally, it exhibits a low emissivity value (0.23) in 8–14 μm, providing a viable solution to the formidable challenge of radar-infrared bistealth for satellites and other communication-enabled flying platforms. GPUs are commonly used to accelerate the execution of applications in domains such as deep learning. Deep learning applications are applied to an increasing variety of scenarios, with edge computing being one of them. However, edge devices present severe computing power and energy limitations. In this context, the use of remote GPU virtualization solutions is an efficient way to address these concerns. Nevertheless, the limited network bandwidth might be an issue. This limitation can be alleviated by leveraging on-the-fly compression within the communication layer of remote GPU virtualization solutions. In this way, data exchanged with the remote GPU is transparently compressed before being transmitted, thus increasing network bandwidth in practice. In this paper, we present the implementation of a parallel compression pipeline designed to be used within remote GPU virtualization solutions. PD measurements in dielectric liquids have been normally performed in the past only using conventional narrow bandwidth detectors. The more recent use of ultra-wide bandwidth instruments has permitted to support once again the thesis that the PDs in oils are the consequence of the streamer (vapor phase) formation and its development. In the paper simultaneous PD measurements in insulating liquids using both narrow and ultra-wide bandwidth detectors are presented. Whilst PD detection with narrow bandwidth instruments gives only integrated signals, the use of ultra-wide bandwidth techniques permits to have much more precise information on PD phenomena, which appear to be in the form of pulses (bursts) of ascending magnitude as the bubble within the liquid expands in volume. As reported in the paper, the use of the ultra-wide bandwidth instruments permits also to distinguish the PD pulses occurring in regular voids of oil-paper insulations and PD pulses formed directly in the liquids as consequence of the streamer development. Also in the paper the meaning of the PDIV in oils is discussed, showing its dependence with the definition used, the unpredictable level of the background noise as well as the randomness of the PD initiation process. In this paper, we investigate a scenario in which protected and unprotected services coexist in an elastic optical network under dynamic traffic. In the investigated scenario, unprotected services can reuse the reserved idle bandwidth to provide protection to the protected services. Under this scenario, we propose a new heuristic algorithm that enables such reuse as well as define and introduce a new assignment problem in elastic optical networks, named a Transmission Spectrum Assignment (T-SA) problem. In this paper, we consider a scenario in which services may be routed using the multipath routing approach. Additionally, protection using bandwidth squeezing is also considered. We assess our proposal through simulations on three different network topologies and compare our proposal against the classical protection approach, in which bandwidth reuse is not allowed. For the simulated range of network loads, the maximum (minimum) blocking probability reduction obtained by our proposal is approximately 48% (10%) in the European topology, 46% (7%) in the NSFNET topology, and 32% (6%) in the German topology. This paper proposes a core and spectrum allocation algorithm for elastic optical networks based on multi-core fibers. In this context, the fragmentation and crosstalk mitigation algorithm (FraCA) is proposed. FraCA implements mechanisms to reduce spectral fragmentation and inter-core crosstalk in the network, proving efficient when compared with six other algorithms reported in the literature. The numerical results show that when compared with the most competitive of the six algorithms, FraCA achieves a gain of request blocking probability of at least 16.87%, a gain of bandwidth blocking probability of at least 43.95%, and a mean increase in spectral utilization of at least 4.36%. This paper presents the design of a frequency-tunable substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) band-reject filter, specifically for spectrum underlay cognitive radio operation. The proposed filter has a simple tuning circuit but provides a wide frequency tuning range from 2.9 to 4.4 GHz (41%). The second resonant mode has been suppressed using a simple quadrature coupling; hence, the fundamental mode bandwidth of the filter has been increased from 2.08 GHz to 3.36 GHz. Due to its wide tuning range, simple tuning circuit, and increased fundamental mode bandwidth, the proposed filter is greatly important in underlay cognitive radio construction. The second-order filter has also been developed, and its performance is analyzed with both simulation and measurement. It gives a tunable bandwidth of 41%, an insertion loss of more than 10 dB, and a fundamental mode bandwidth of 3.36 GHz. The filter performance is also analyzed after connecting it to the standard horn antenna. In this paper, a 3-bit circularly polarized reconfigurable reflectarray is proposed. The array consists of 64 units in an 8 × 8 configuration, with each unit containing a circular metal patch loaded with phase-delay lines and eight PIN diodes. To independently control each unit, a corresponding DC control circuit was designed and tested with the array. In the bandwidth of 3.43–3.71 GHz, the circularly polarized reconfigurable reflectarray achieved a gain of 16 dB, an aperture efficiency of 27%, an axial ratio of ≤3 dB, an operating bandwidth of 8%, and a beam scanning range of ±60°. The circularly polarized reconfigurable reflectarray can also achieve a good dual-beam radiation performance after testing. The 3-bit circularly polarized reconfigurable reflectarray proposed in this paper offers several advantages, including low loss, high aperture efficiency, a wide beam scanning range, and excellent stability in wide-angle oblique incidence. Microwave hyperspectral instruments represent one of the main atmospheric sounders of China's next-generation Fengyun meteorological satellites. In order to better apply microwave hyperspectral observations in the fields of atmospheric parameter retrieval and data assimilation, this paper analyzes the sensitivity of trace gases to five selected bandwidth channels using a radiative transfer model based on the simulated data of microwave hyperspectral radiances at 50–60 GHz. This method uses information entropy and a weighting function to select channels and analyze the impact of this on the retrieval accuracy of atmospheric profiles before and after channel selection. The experimental results show that channel selection can reduce the number of channels by approximately 74.05% while maintaining a large amount of information content, and this retrieval effect is significantly better than that of MWTS-III. After channel selection, the 10 MHz, 30 MHz, and 50 MHz bandwidths have the best retrieval results in the stratosphere, whole atmosphere, and troposphere, respectively. Path hopping serves as an active defense mechanism in network security, yet it encounters challenges like a restricted path switching space, the recurrent use of similar paths and vital nodes, a singular triggering mechanism for path switching, and fixed hopping intervals. This paper introduces an active defense method employing multiple constraints and strategies for path hopping. A depth-first search (DFS) traversal is utilized to compute all possible paths between nodes, thereby broadening the path switching space while simplifying path generation complexity. Subsequently, constraints are imposed on residual bandwidth, selection periods, path similitude, and critical nodes to reduce the likelihood of reusing similar paths and crucial nodes. Moreover, two path switching strategies are formulated based on the weights of residual bandwidth and critical nodes, along with the calculation of path switching periods. This facilitates adaptive switching of path hopping paths and intervals, contingent on the network's residual bandwidth threshold, in response to diverse attack scenarios. Simulation outcomes illustrate that this method, while maintaining normal communication performance, expands the path switching space effectively, safeguards against eavesdropping and link-flooding attacks, enhances path switching diversity and unpredictability, and fortifies the network's resilience against malicious attacks. This paper presents a flexible and wearable textile array antenna designed to generate Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) waves with Mode +2 at 3.5 GHz (3.4 to 3.6 GHz) of the sub-6 GHz fifth-generation (5G) New Radio (NR) band. The proposed antenna is based on a uniform circular array of eight microstrip patch antennas on a felt textile substrate. In contrast to previous works involving the use of rigid substrates to generate OAM waves, this work explored the use of flexible substrates to generate OAM waves for the first time. Other than that, the proposed antenna was simulated, analyzed, fabricated, and tested to confirm the generation of OAMMode +2. With the same design, OAM Mode -2 can be generated readily simply by mirror imaging the feed network. Note that the proposed antenna operated at the desired frequency of 3.5 GHz with an overall bandwidth of 400 MHz in free space. Moreover, mode purity analysis is carried out to verify the generation of OAM Mode +2, and the purity obtained was 41.78% at free space flat condition. Furthermore, the effect of antenna bending on the purity of the generated OAM mode is also investigated. Lastly, the influence of textile properties on OAM modes is examined to assist future researchers in choosing suitable fabrics to design flexible OAM-based antennas. After a comprehensive analysis considering different factors related to wearable applications, this paper demonstrates the feasibility of generating OAMwaves using textile antennas. Furthermore, as per the obtained Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), it is found that the proposed antenna is safe to be deployed. We have developed a fast, spatially direct scanning tunable diode laser absorption spectrometer (dTDLAS) that combines four polygon-mirror based scanning units with low-cost retro-reflective foils. With this instrument, tomographic measurements of absolute 2-D water vapour concentration profiles are possible without any calibration using a reference gas. A spatial area of 0.8m×0.8m was covered, which allows for application in soil physics, where greenhouse gas emission from certain soil structures shall be monitored. The whole concentration field was measured with up to 2.5 Hz. In this paper, we present the setup and spectroscopic performance of the instrument regarding the influence of the polygon rotation speed and mode on the absorption signal. Homogeneous H2O distributions were measured and compared to a single channel, bi-static reference TDLAS spectrometer for validation of the instrument. Good accuracy and precision with errors of less than 6% of the absolute concentration and length and bandwidth normalized detection limits of up to 1.1 ppmv .m. √Hz-1 were achieved. The spectrometer is a robust and easy to set up instrument for tomographic reconstructions of 2-D-concentration fields that can be considered a good basis for future field measurements in environmental research. This paper presents a computer-simulation-based design of an in-line, coaxial-to-circular waveguide adapter for converting the coaxial transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode to the circular waveguide TE11 mode over more than a one-octave bandwidth. The proposed adapter consists of a coaxial-to-rectangular waveguide transformer employing a stepped-ridge converter and a rectangular-to-circular waveguide transformer employing a curved transition. The proposed adapter has been optimized using a commercial simulation tool. The dimensions of the designed adapter are given so that it can be verified by anyone who is interested. The designed adapter operates from 8.00 GHz to 22.95 GHz (2.87:1 bandwidth) with a reflection coefficient of less than −20 dB and a higher-order mode level of less than −25.0 dB. In order to reduce the sampling delay and improve bandwidth, sability margin, and the robustness of the active damping in LCL-filtered grid-connected inverters, real-time sampling provides a convenient method. However, aliasing is easily introduced in the control loop because of high-frequency switching harmonics, resulting in a rise in low-order harmonics. To address the challenge of aliasing under real-time sampling, a new method based on multisampling and mean filtering is proposed by combining the proposed harmonic detection and control methods in this paper. This method works by sampling and controlling the fundamental current and selective subharmonic currents separately. The fundamental current control loop without any additional filters maintains real-time sampling, while multisampling and mean filters are applied to the harmonic current control loop. The proposed control method can not only improve the dynamic response performance and control stability of the system but also effectively suppress the selective low-order current harmonics and the aliasing of sampling. Finally, the correctness of the proposed sampling scheme and control strategy is verified by the simulation based on R2018b, MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA and an experimental prototype of a three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic inverter rated at 230 V/50 Hz/40 kW. Handoff mechanisms are very important in fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks because of the cellular architecture employed to maximize spectrum utilization. Together with call admission control (CAC) mechanisms, they enable better optimization of bandwidth use. The primary objective of the research presented in this article is to analyze traffic levels, aiming to optimize traffic management and handling. This article considers the two most popular CAC mechanisms: the resource reservation mechanism and the threshold mechanism. It presents an analytical approach to occupancy distribution and blocking probability calculation in 5G mobile networks, incorporating connection handoff and CAC mechanisms for managing multiple traffic streams generated by multi-service sources. Due to the fact that the developed analytical model is an approximate model, its accuracy was also examined. For this purpose, the results of analytical calculations of the blocking probability in a group of 5G cells are compared with the simulation data. This paper presents a simple, low-profile rectangular microstrip patch antenna for applications in the 28 GHz band. A regular rectangular microstrip patch antenna is initially designed. The antenna is then modified to perfectly resonate at 28 GHz and improve antenna performance in terms of S11, radiation gain, and impedance bandwidth. The antenna is optimized using inset feed to enhance the matching between the radiating patch and the feeding line. Then, a rectangular slit on the front edge of the patch is inserted with altering the antenna's dimensions to reduce its size. The suggested antenna uses a Rogers RT/Duroid-5880 substrate with a dielectric constant of 2.2, a thickness of 0.508 mm, and a loss tangent of 0.0009. The final design is small, measuring 8 x 8.489 x 0.508 mm³ (≈ 0.75λ x 0.79λ x 0.05λ), having a maximum S11 value of - 45 dB and an impedance bandwidth of 1.43 GHz, extending from 27.28 GHz to 28.71 GHz. The radiation gain is nearly consistent over the operating band, with above 8 dBi is achieved. Besides, the proposed antenna achieves a radiation efficiency of about 99% across the band. HFSS is employed for the design, simulations, and optimizations, while CST is used to validate the HFSS simulation findings. An approach to obtain effective control of insertion loss (IL) in wideband substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) band-pass filter with several tapered iris configurations is presented in this paper. Several iris configurations and iris parameters have been minutely studied and effective postulates have been provided for accurate design of filters with low IL throughout the transmission bandwidth. Basic structure is designed over a substrate with dielectric constant 3.2 and material thickness of 30 mils. The structures are then successfully modified into a band-pass filter with its pass band in Ku bands with minimal IL using waveguide iris method. The technique effectively serves the purpose to achieve greater control over the IL and isolation. Maximum IL of 2 dB is reduced by 1.5 dB and close to 0.5 dB IL is obtained in the final configuration using the tapering technique. Proposed techniques are supported with theoretical explanations. All designs are fabricated, and measured results are found to validate the concept produced in this paper. Metamaterial absorbers have garnered significant interest due to their unique electromagnetic properties, which facilitate the efficient absorption of electromagnetic radiation in a specific frequency range or multiple frequency ranges. The metamaterial absorbers are designed based on artificially engineered structures that enable tailored absorption properties. These structures might include multiple resonances or incorporate electrical resistive components to achieve broadband absorption. Data transfer, which means transferring data fields between two component models or rearranging data fields among processes of the same component model, is a fundamental operation of a coupler. Most of state-of-the-art coupler versions currently use an implementation based on the point-to-point (P2P) communication of the Message Passing Interface (MPI) (call such an implementation "P2P implementation" for short). In this paper, we reveal the drawbacks of the P2P implementation, including low communication bandwidth due to small message size, variable and big number of MPI messages, and jams during communication. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose a butterfly implementation for data transfer. Although the butterfly implementation can outperform the P2P implementation in many cases, it degrades the performance in some cases because the total message size transferred by the butterfly implementation is larger than that by the P2P implementation. To make the data transfer completely improved, we design and implement an adaptive data transfer library that combines the advantages of both butterfly implementation and P2P implementation. Performance evaluation shows that the adaptive data transfer library significantly improves the performance of data transfer in most cases and does not decrease the performance in any cases. Now the adaptive data transfer library is open to the public and has been imported into a coupler version C-Coupler1 for performance improvement of data transfer. Coplanar monopole antennas printed using copper oxide nanoparticles on flexible substrates are characterized in order to study the effect of the ink drop spacing on the antenna parameters. Polyethylene Terephthalate and Epson paper were the chosen flexible substrates, and the antennas were designed to operate at 20GHz. A maximum conductivity of 2.8 × 107 Ω-1m-1 was obtained for the films printed on Polyethylene Terephthalate using a drop spacing of 20 μm. The corresponding antenna achieved a gain and an efficiency of 1.82 dB and 97.6%, respectively. Experiments showed that smaller drop spacings lead to bulging of the printed lines while the antenna performance worsens for longer ones. At the same drop spacing, antennas printed on Epson paper substrate showed a -10 dB return loss bandwidth which extended from 17.9GHz to 23.3GHz, leading to a fractional bandwidth of 26.0%. In this paper, a proposed design features a single-fed broadband circularly polarized antenna based on a rotating metasurface. The antenna is positioned between a rotating 4 × 4 periodic patch and the ground plane. The antenna comprises a driving patch and a parasitic patch. It utilizes two modes of the driving patch, which exhibit different polarizations along the two directions. When the metasurface is placed on it, the truncation angle of the metasurface cells causes the excitation of the two modes with left-rotating circular polarization (CP) and right-rotating CP, respectively. To weaken the right-handed CP relative to the left-handed CP, effectively enhancing the latter, another angle is truncated on the metasurface cell, and the metasurface is rotated by an angle. The final antenna was fabricated and tested with an overall size of 32 × 32 × 3 mm³. Measurements indicate that the |S11| < −10 dB bandwidth ranges from 4.72 to 7.67 GHz (47.9%), and the 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth ranges from 4.97 to 6.48 GHz (26.3%). This paper presents a novel bandpass filter with reconfigurable bandwidth or transmission zeros. The proposed filter is based on a multiple-mode stub-loaded resonator. Three PIN diodes are utilized as switching elements to achieve four switchable operating states. The measurement results indicate that the 3 dB fractional bandwidth (FBW) of the filter can be varied from 32.3% to 70% at the centre frequency of 2.2 GHz, and the stopband attenuation is higher than 35 dB. In order to implement the fifth generation (5G) communication system for a large number of users, the governments of many countries nominated the low 5G frequency band between 3.3 and 4.3 GHz. This paper proposes a wideband RFPA by designing the input matching network (MN) and output MN of the device using the simplified real frequency technique (SRFT) and the harmonic tuning network. The load-pull and source-pull is applied at multiple points for 100 MHz intervals over the bandwidth to obtain the optimum impedances at the output and input of the 10W Gallium Nitride (GaN) Cree CGH40010F device. To verify the design, the RFPA is simulated, and the performance is measured between 3.3 and 4.3 GHz. According to experimental findings, the measured drain efficiency (DE) throughout the whole bandwidth ranged from 57.5 to 67.5% at the output power of 40 dBm. Moreover, at the 1 dB compression point between 39.2 and 42.2 dBm output power, the drain efficiency (DE) achieves a high value of 81.2% with an output power of 42.2 dBm at a frequency of 3.3 GHz. The RFPA can obtain a maximum gain of 12.4 dB at 3.5 GHz. The linearity of the RFPA with a two-tone signal is measured and the value is less than -22 dBc all over the band. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In this paper, we estimate the long-lasting influence of the former Habsburg Empire's border on the territory of Romania, specifically on the prevalence of corrupt behaviour and practices in health services. Methods: Employing microdata from the 2016 Life in Transition Survey and applying ordered probit regression, we explore the hypothesis that the geographical proximity of respondents' residences to the former imperial border—restricting the analysis within a bandwidth of 50 km, 75 km or even 100 km on either side – significantly influences current individual tendencies towards corrupt behaviour. Results: The results indicate that individuals in Transylvania living in the immediate vicinity of the former border of the Habsburg Empire (no more than 75 km away) show a higher propensity towards corrupt behaviours, similar to those from Moldova and Wallachia who reside in the same bandwidth but to the east of the former historical border. Interestingly, on one hand, after a series of tests with various relevant factors, the contagion effect is observed from right to left, meaning from those in Moldova and Wallachia towards those in Transylvania, and not the other way around as might be expected based on other previous studies. On the other hand, individuals living more than 75 kms west of the former historical border show clear reluctance to engage in informal payments and gift-giving when interacting with the public health system as patients. Conclusion: By rigorously controlling for various variables that comprehensively show different legacies of the communist regime, our results confirm the persistence of these influences across different bandwidths, thereby corroborating the hypothesis of path dependence influenced by the former Habsburg Empire. In commercial electrical equipment, the popular sensorless drive scheme for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor, based on the quasi-sliding mode observer (QSMO) and phase-locked loop (PLL), still faces challenges such as position errors and limited applicability across a wide speed range. To address these problems, this paper analyzes the frequency domain model of the QSMO. A QSMO-based parameter adaptation method is proposed to adjust the boundary layer and widen the speed operating range, considering the QSMO bandwidth. A QSMO-based phase lag compensation method is proposed to mitigate steady-state position errors, considering the QSMO phase lag. Then, the PLL model is analyzed to select the estimated speed difference for transient position error compensation. Specifically, a transient position error compensator based on a feedback time delay neural network (FB-TDNN) is proposed. Based on the back propagation learning algorithm, the specific structure and optimal parameters of the FB-TDNN are determined during the offline training process. The proposed parameter adaptation method and two position error compensation methods were validated through simulations in simulated wide-speed operation scenarios, including sudden speed changes. Overall, the proposed scheme fully mitigates steady-state position errors, substantially mitigates transient position errors, and exhibits good stability across a wide speed range. This paper proposes a novel multi-band textile monopole antenna for patient tracking applications. The designed antenna has compact footprints (0.13λ02) and works in the narrow band-internet of things (NB-IoT) 1.8 GHz, radio frequency identification (RFID), and industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) 2.45 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands. The impedance bandwidths and gain of the antenna at 1.8 GHz, 2.45 GHz, and 5.8 GHz are 310 MHz, 960 MHz, and 1140 MHz; 3.7 dBi, 5.3 dBi, and 9.6 dBi, respectively. Also, the antenna's behavior is checked on different body parts of the human body in various bending scenarios. As per the evaluated link budget, the designed antenna can easily communicate up to 100 m of distance. The specific absorption rate values of the designed antenna are also within acceptable limits as per the (FCC/ICNIRP) standards at the reported frequency bands. Unlike traditional rigid antennas, the proposed textile antenna is non-intrusive, enhancing user safety and comfort. The denim material makes it comfortable for extended wear, reducing the risk of skin irritation. It can also withstand regular wear and tear, including stretching and bending. Factories play a crucial role in economic and social development. However, fire disasters in factories greatly threaten both human lives and properties. Previous studies about fire detection using deep learning mostly focused on wildfire detection and ignored the fires that happened in factories. In addition, lots of studies focus on fire detection, while smoke, the important derivative of a fire disaster, is not detected by such algorithms. To better help smart factories monitor fire disasters, this paper proposes an improved fire and smoke detection method based on YOLOv8n. To ensure the quality of the algorithm and training process, a self-made dataset including more than 5000 images and their corresponding labels is created. Then, nine advanced algorithms are selected and tested on the dataset. YOLOv8n exhibits the best detection results in terms of accuracy and detection speed. ConNeXtV2 is then inserted into the backbone to enhance inter-channel feature competition. RepBlock and SimConv are selected to replace the original Conv and improve computational ability and memory bandwidth. For the loss function, CIoU is replaced by MPDIoU to ensure an efficient and accurate bounding box. Ablation tests show that our improved algorithm achieves better performance in all four metrics reflecting accuracy: precision, recall, F1, and mAP@50. Compared with the original model, whose four metrics are approximately 90%, the modified algorithm achieves above 95%. mAP@50 in particular reaches 95.6%, exhibiting an improvement of approximately 4.5%. An innovative ceramic filter is presented in this paper. The filter is composed of six tuning apertures, coupling channels, and a six-blind-hole coupling structure. The six blind holes are divided into two groups: one situated between the first and second cavities to induce inductive coupling, and the other positioned between the second and third cavities to facilitate capacitive coupling. Employing this structure facilitates the formation of a cascade quadruple (CQ) coupling unit among the 1, 2, 3, and 4 resonant cavities, thereby introducing two transmission zeros. Subsequently, an analysis of the influences of the depth and spacing of each blind hole on the coupling coefficients is presented. Finally, to further validate the theory, the filter tailored for base station applications was designed and implemented. The measurement results demonstrate a center frequency of 3.5 GHz with a bandwidth of 200 MHz. In the passband, the insertion loss was below 1.2 dB, and the return loss surpassed 19 dB. Cochlear implant (CI) systems differ in terms of electrode design and signal processing. It is likely that patients fit with different implant systems will experience different percepts when presented speech via their implant. The sound quality of speech can be evaluated by asking single-sided-deaf (SSD) listeners fit with a cochlear implant (CI) to modify clean signals presented to their typically hearing ear to match the sound quality of signals presented to their CI ear. In this paper, we describe very close matches to CI sound quality, i.e., similarity ratings of 9.5 to 10 on a 10-point scale, by ten patients fit with a 28 mm electrode array and MED EL signal processing. The modifications required to make close approximations to CI sound quality fell into two groups: One consisted of a restricted frequency bandwidth and spectral smearing while a second was characterized by a wide bandwidth and no spectral smearing. Both sets of modifications were different from those found for patients with shorter electrode arrays who chose upshifts in voice pitch and formant frequencies to match CI sound quality. The data from matching-based metrics of CI sound quality document that speech sound-quality differs for patients fit with different CIs and among patients fit with the same CI. This paper presents the design and isolation enhancement of a filtering MIMO antenna with a radiation null for out-of-band suppressions suited for 5G sub-6 GHz communications. The MIMO antenna offers -10 dB impedance bandwidth functionality at the most prominent partial spectrum of the 5G NR n78 band for enabling wireless applications in base stations, ranging from 3.4 GHz to 3.61 GHz. To mitigate the redundancy of an RF filter and to achieve a strong filtering response, a radiation null is produced in the gain with four identical rectangular slots, which results in a significant gain drop of more than 8 dBi at the stopband. The geometrical design also allows 30 percent size reduction of single element. Subsequently, a closely spaced (0.11λ0) two-port MIMO antenna is implemented and with the utilization of the proposed rectangular shaped hollow stub parasitic element, the interelement isolation is significantly improved by more than 8 dB over the operational frequency range while retaining the filtering without any additional RF structure. The design simplification, peak gain of 5.4 dBi, near ideal response of diversity gain, ECC less than 0.03, congruency between simulated and measured results, and stable parameters make it a valuable choice for 3.5 GHz sub-6 GHz communications. This paper presents the design, simulation, prototyping, and measurement results of a digitally tunable fourth order Gm-C low-pass filter (LPF) for multi-standard radio receivers. The LPF cut-off frequency can be tunned by digitally selecting the transconductance of the basic reconfigurable operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) that compose the circuit. Four operation modes allow for control of the OTA transconductances and, consequently, the scaling of power consumption. The filter was designed and prototyped in a 1.8 V 180 nm CMOS process. The measurement results indicate that the configurability provides a cutoff frequency of 1.90/3.56/6.07/8.15 MHz with a power consumption ranging from 9.9 to 13.1 mW. The designed filter achieves an IIP3 of 8.17 dBm for a signal bandwidth of 8.15 MHz. The performance, in terms of power dissipation, noise, and cut-off frequency, is at the same order of magnitude compared to recent related works reported in the literature. The advantages are a compact area, small sensitivity to component mismatches, and low design complexity. In this paper, a CGH40010F GaN-based wideband RF rectifier with high rectification efficiency is presented. A novel continuous class-EFJ-mode rectifier is constructed by combining a continuous class-J-mode rectifier and class-EF-mode rectifier under specific impedance conditions. This novel continuous class-EFJ-mode rectifier has high rectification efficiency and wide bandwidth at the same time. For validation, a wideband high-efficiency class-EFJ-mode rectifier functioning within the 2.0–3.0 GHz range is designed, fabricated, and measured. The measurements indicate that, with an input power of 40 dBm and a resistance of 72 Ω on the dc load, the implemented rectifier sustains a rectification efficiency exceeding 60% across its entire operational frequency band. This paper introduces compact Printed Ridge Gap Waveguide (PRGW) phase shifters tailored for millimeter-wave applications, with a focus on achieving wide operating bandwidth, and improved matching and phase balance compared to single-layer technology. This study proposes a unique approach to achieve the required phase shift in PRGW technology, which has not been previously explored. This study also introduces a novel analytical approach to calculate the cutoff frequency and propagation constant of the PRGW structure, a method not previously addressed. Furthermore, the utilization of multi-layer PRGW technology enables the realization of multi-layer beamforming networks without crossing, thereby supporting wideband operation in a compact size. The proposed design procedure enables the realization of various phase shift values ranging from 0 ∘ to 135 ∘ over a broad frequency bandwidth centered at 30 GHz. A 45-degree phase shifter is fabricated and tested, demonstrating a 10 GHz bandwidth (approximately 33% fractional bandwidth) from 25 GHz to 35 GHz. Throughout the operating bandwidth, the phase balance remains within 45 ± 5 ∘ , with a deep matching level of −20 dB. The proposed phase shifter exhibits desirable characteristics, such as compactness, low loss, and low dispersion, making it a suitable choice for millimeter-wave applications, including beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G wireless communications. Communication systems need antennas with wide bandwidths to provide large throughput, while imaging radars benefit from high gain for increased range and wide bandwidths for high-resolution imaging. This paper presents the design and evaluation of a wideband, high-gain antenna that achieves an average gain of 9.7 dBi over a bandwidth of 1.49 GHz to 3.92 GHz by using multiple in-phase radiating apertures. The antenna has a unique structure with a central rectangular short-circuited patch sandwiched between two back-to-back U-shaped radiating patches and two flanking H-shaped short-circuited patches. Each of the U-shaped patches employs a coplanar waveguide as feeding to achieve ultra-wideband impedance matching. Benefiting from design arrangement, in-phase electrical field distributions appear at the gaps between the patches that result in equivalent radiating magnetic currents in the same direction. Theory analysis shows that the close-spaced, same-direction magnetic currents created by the radiating apertures intensify the radiation and increase antenna gain within its impedance bandwidth. Simulated data show that the use of the coplanar waveguide feeding and short-circuited patches increase the bandwidth from 65 MHz to 2.43 GHz. Moreover, the short-circuited patches increase the gain by 3.45 dB at 2.4 GHz. Simulation and measurement results validate the design and show that the antenna features a maximum gain of 11.3 dBi and an average gain of 9.7 dBi in a fractional bandwidth of 89.8%. The synchronization phenomenon in nature has been utilized in sensing and timekeeping fields due to its numerous advantages, including amplitude and frequency stabilization, noise reduction, and sensitivity improvement. However, the limited synchronization bandwidth hinders its broader application, and few techniques have been explored to enhance this aspect. In this paper, we conducted theoretical and experimental studies on the unidirectional synchronization characteristics of a resonator with phase lock loop oscillation. A novel enhancement method for the synchronization bandwidth using a parametrically excited MEMS oscillator is proposed, which achieves a remarkably large synchronization bandwidth of 8.85 kHz, covering more than 94% of the hysteresis interval. Importantly, the proposed method exhibits significant potential for high-order synchronization and frequency stabilization compared to the conventional directly excited oscillator. These findings present an effective approach for expanding the synchronization bandwidth, which has promising applications in nonlinear sensing, fully mechanical frequency dividers, and high-precision time references. In this paper, we present a millimeter-wave Fabry-Perot antenna with dual resonances, circular polarization, and stable gain. To achieve circularly polarized radiation, we integrate a receiver-transmitter circular polarizer into the partially reflective surface (PRS) of the antenna. The PRS is specifically designed with a positive reflective phase gradient, which contributes to a stable gain in the dual-resonance frequency band. For the radiation source, we adopt a linearly-polarized substrate-integrated waveguide cavity-backed slot fed by a printed ridge gap waveguide. Experimental measurements conducted on a fabricated prototype of the proposed antenna demonstrate its impedance and axial ratio bandwidths of 28.6–30.0 GHz and 28.6–29.6 GHz, respectively. This paper derives theoretical results for adaptive bias in Doherty amplifiers and presents the design and measurements of an integrated adaptive bias circuit tailored for high peak-to-average high bandwidth signals. Fundamental equations for output power, impedance, and efficiency of the complete Doherty amplifier are derived. Even with ideal transistor models, the Doherty amplifier is fundamentally nonlinear due to saturation of the main amplifier and class-C nonlinearity of the auxiliary. Increasing the transconductance of the auxiliary amplifier mitigates the distortion. Adaptive bias offers the possibility to control the output current characteristic of the auxiliary amplifier. This means that adaptive bias linearises and mitigates the need for an oversized auxiliary amplifier. Both methods, transconductance scaling and adaptive bias, are analysed and compared as well as having a band limited adaptive bias signal. The design of a multiple GHz bandwidth adaptive bias circuit is presented. To verify the circuit design and the theoretical predictions, an mmW Doherty amplifier in 22 nm CMOS-FD-SOI, utilizing the presented adaptive bias circuit, is measured and compared with and without adaptive bias. Comparison is conducted both using continuous-wave and modulated high bandwidth signals.
