This paper utilizes an improved undesirable output DEA model to measure the eco-efficiency of cities in five major urban agglomerations in China during 2006–2020. It employs the Theil Index and Geodetector to investigate the spatial-temporal distribution differentiation characteristics and driving factors of urban eco-efficiency. The main findings are as follows. Firstly, the eco-efficiency of all urban agglomerations showed a fluctuating upward trend, but the eco-efficiency performance of different urban agglomerations in China shows a stratification characteristic. Specifically, the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration consistently ranks first in China, while the mean values of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, and Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration are lower than the national average. Secondly, the overall differences in the urban eco-efficiency of all sample cities show a consistently fluctuating downward trend. The factor that affects the level differences of eco-efficiency in different cities is the intra-regional differences. Last but not least, the top three factors affecting the spatial distribution difference of urban eco-efficiency in the whole sample are environmental pollution control investments, innovation level, and environmental infrastructure investments. In the end, this paper proposes that reducing the intra-regional differences is the primary task to achieve the coordinated improvement of urban eco-efficiency in urban agglomerations, and then puts forward some policy suggestions to improve eco-efficiency for the five major urban agglomerations. Industrial land is essential for supply-side structural reforms, particularly in the Chengdu–Chongqing area, Western China's most densely populated and industrially robust region. This area, a pivotal hub linking Southwest China with South Asia and Southeast Asia, is critical for the national strategic layout and regional economic restructuring. Despite its substantial industrial foundation as an old industrial base, internal developmental stagnation has led to an irrational industrial land use structure. This paper analyzed land transaction data from the China Land Market Network (2010–2021) using methods such as kernel density estimation, the standard deviation ellipse method, and Global Moran's I index. The analysis focuses on the spatiotemporal evolution of industrial land marketization and its driving factors in 44 cities within the Chengdu–Chongqing economic circle. The findings aim to enhance the strategic implementation of national policies and regional economic optimization, suggesting intensified development efforts in key cities and promoting integrated growth in potential areas like Suining and Ziyang to foster a conducive environment for high-quality regional development. With the popularity of shared bicycles in urban areas, more and more residents choose this fast and convenient mode of transportation for short-distance travel. By optimizing the layout of shared bicycle parking areas and delivery quantity, the investment cost of shared bicycle enterprises can be effectively reduced, and the convenience of residents' travel can be improved at the same time. In this paper, we develop a collaborative optimization model for the layout of the shared bicycle parking area and delivery quantity, aiming at minimizing the walking distance of residents and the investment cost of enterprises, while considering the constraints of the parking area's attractive range and the number of bicycles placed. Aiming at the characteristics of this mixed integer nonlinear problem, an improved genetic algorithm incorporating symmetric individual precision control mechanism is designed. Finally, taking the planned area between the Second Ring Road and the Third Ring Road in the northern part of Jin-niu District, Chengdu as the background, the proposed collaborative optimization model for the layout of shared bicycle parking areas and delivery quantity is applied to a real scene. With the deepening of urbanization in China, the coordinated development of cities in different regions is an important part of the sustainable development of the country, and the reasonable quantification of the unbalanced development of cities in different regions is an important issue facing the society nowadays. Previous studies usually use population data to analyze the power-law distribution law to quantify the imbalance of urban development in different regions, but China's population data span a large number of years and numerous division criteria, and the results obtained from different population data are widely disparate and have obvious limitations. The paper starts from a fractal perspective and utilizes OpenStreetMap (OSM) data to extract national road intersections from 2015 to 2022, calculates critical distance thresholds for eight years using urban expansion curves, generates urban agglomerations in China, and quantifies the imbalance of urban development in different regions by calculating the urban agglomeration power-law index. The results indicate that (1) the critical distance threshold of urban expansion curves exhibits a slight overall increase and stabilizes within the range of 120–130 m, (2) the number of urban agglomerations in China has been increasing significantly year by year, but the power-law index has been decreasing from 1.49 in 2015 to 1.36 in 2022, and (3) the number of urban agglomerations and the power–law index of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, and Chengdu–Chongqing regions, which is consistent with the national scale trend, indicates that the scale distribution of urban agglomerations in China at this stage does not conform to Zipf's law, and there is a certain Matthew effect among cities in different geographic areas with a large unevenness. The results of the study can provide new ideas for assessing the coordinated development of cities in different regions. In the era of the urban economy and service economy, the decoupling of service industry land expansion from economic growth has always been a key measure to evaluate sustainable and healthy development. Based on the decoupling model and GIS spatial analysis method, this paper conducted an empirical study of Chinese cities from 2012 to 2019. Results: (1) Increasing spatial heterogeneity, correlation and agglomeration of land expansion were found in China's urban service industry and its economic growth; (2) Most cities were in weak decoupling, with evolved, degraded and unchanged cities accounting for one-third each, and the number of cities in negative decoupling was increasing, leading to increasingly diverse and complex decoupling relationships; (3) From the perspective of changes in the urban service industry land and its decoupling from economic growth, HH cities were clustered in the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei and Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomerations in a continuous belt pattern, while LL and HL cities were mostly in the north, especially in the northeast, creating many cluster-like agglomerations that have become problematic spaces; (4) A significant synergistic effect was identified between the factors of urban permanent population, value added of the secondary industry, per capita GDP, government financial expenditure, international trade, foreign direct investment, total retail of commodities, and authorized patents, with factor pairs formed showing nonlinear enhancement. The factor value added of the secondary industry had the largest direct impact, while urban permanent population and foreign direct investment led in terms of net synergies; (5) It is recommended to introduce classified and differentiated urban service industry land use policies, plan and build a number of national, provincial and municipal modern service industry clusters, demonstrate changes in land supply and use, build a scientific and efficient land resource allocation and management system, guard against and prevent recoupling and effectively improve the ability of cities to achieve high-quality economic development. China is attaching increasing importance to the creation of regional integration, high-quality economic development and ecological civilization. An accurate grasp of the traction effect of the increased level of integration of urban agglomerations on the eco-efficiency (EE) of cities in the region will help to promote the steady improvement of urban economic development and the ecological environment. This paper constructs an index system to measure the level of integration of the Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomeration (CCUA) and the EE of each city within it from 2011 to 2020 and explores the impact of regional integration on urban EE and its mechanism of action. The study presents the follow findings: (1) The level of integration of the CCUA increased nearly 10 times from 2011 to 2020, with the government playing a significant leading role. (2) The positive and negative effects of the level of integration of the CCUA on urban EE depend on factors such as the level of economic development, the stage of development and the location. There are several relationships between the level of intra-regional integration and urban EE: first, a nearly linear increase, as in Chongqing and Chengdu; second, an increase in fluctuation, as in Dazhou, Guang'an and Leshan; and third, a fluctuation, decrease, flat or even no real increase, as in Luzhou, Ya'an and Zigong. (3) Based on this, this paper considers the mechanism of the level of integration within the region on urban EE in terms of both economic and eco-environmental effects, with a view to exploring the future green development path of the CCUA. The Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB), an important industrial belt for food security for China, is facing the challenge of decreasing cultivated land in the process of rapid urbanization. In this case, how to improve the cultivated land use efficiency (CLUE) has become the top priority. Based on data from 108 cities of YREB from 2001 to 2019, we measured CLUE using a slack-based measure with undesirable output (SBM-Undesirable). The high-value area of CLUE shows a trend from multi-core agglomeration to two-core agglomeration, mainly concentrated in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration and the northern part of the YREB. Then the paper examines the spatial effect of urbanization on CLUE using the Spatial Error Model (SEM). The result shows that population urbanization has significantly promoted the improvement of CLUE in YREB during the sample period. With each percentage point increase in population urbanization, CLUE will increase by 2.99%. Land urbanization has a negative impact on CLUE, for each percent increase in the expansion of urban spatial scope, CLUE will decrease by 0.06%. The spatial heterogeneity analysis shows that population urbanization in the lower reaches has significantly promoted CLUE, with a coefficient of 1.053. The population urbanization level in the middle and lower reaches of the region has no obvious effect on CLUE. The coefficient of land urbanization in the downstream region is 0.35, which significantly promotes CLUE. The coefficient in the middle is −0.26, which implies the CLUE decreases by 0.26% for every one percentage point increase in land urbanization. Land urbanization in the upper has no significant impact on the CLUE. Policy implications include improving the quality of the three major urban clusters along the YREB, building an ecologic protective screen in the upper, encouraging a new agricultural management system and detailed regulations related to the cultivated land protection in YREB. Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis is an important scientific basis for building seismic fortification. Unlike most seismic hazard analyses starting from the perspective of magnitude, this paper presents a seismic hazard analysis method based on the monthly maximum peak ground acceleration (PGA) distribution. In this paper, cities of Chongqing, Chengdu, and Kunming in southwest China are taken as examples where historical earthquake events from 1920 to 2020 with surface wave magnitude (Ms) greater than or equal to 3 and epicentral distances within 400 km are selected for analysis. PGA data are back-calculated from Ms data recorded in the earthquake catalog using the attenuation relation of seismic parameters. By considering the monthly maximum PGA values of the three cities as statistical samples, regression analysis is performed to obtain the monthly maximum PGA distribution and the frequency-PGA relation respectively. Based on the Poisson model and the parameters obtained from the regression analysis, then seismic hazard analysis is conducted to derive year exceedance probability vs. PGA curves and recurrence interval vs. PGA curves. Finally, earthquake events with the epicentral distance within 200 km, 300 km, and 400 km are respectively analyzed to discuss the influence of the epicentral distance on results of seismic hazard analysis. In recent years, the tourism industry has developed rapidly. However, traditional tourism information has the disadvantages of slow response speed and limited information content, which cannot reflect the evolution trend of spatial and temporal patterns of tourism information in time. Here, based on the Baidu Index, we construct an evaluation framework to analyse the spatial and temporal flow of tourism information in the Chengdu–Chongqing urban cluster from 2011 to 2021. Then, we analyse the urban links between different network levels from the evolution pattern. Finally, we use the geodetector model to analyse its driving mechanism. The results show that Chengdu and Chongqing are the most active cities in the study area in terms of tourism information. The unbalanced development of tourism information between Chengdu and Chongqing and other cities in the region gradually deepens during the period 2011–2019 (polarization effect), but the unbalanced development moderates after 2019. On the other hand, cities in the middle of the Chengdu–Chongqing cluster always have weak agglomeration effects of tourism information. Cities with high tourism information outflow rates in the Chengdu–Chongqing city cluster are mainly concentrated around Chengdu. The average outflow rate of Deyang is the highest, at 27.8%. Cities with low tourist information outflow rates are primarily located in the west, central and south. Ya'an is the city with the lowest outflow rate, with an average of −62.2%. Specifically, Chengdu is the dominant and most radiantly influential city. The tourism information of the Chengdu–Chongqing urban cluster shows a radial network with Chengdu and Chongqing as the core. The driving force analysis shows that the push factor of tourist source, such as the number of people buying pension insurance, is the core driving mechanism, while the pull factor of destination, such as the park green area, and resistance factors such as psychological distance, are in the secondary position. In general, this paper uses Internet tourism data to expand the traditional tourism information research of the Chengdu–Chongqing urban cluster, which can better respond to the changes and needs of the tourism market and provide reference for the spatial optimization of tourism destinations. The analysis of the spatial connection and structural characteristics evolution of the railway passenger transport network in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle is of great significance to the future network construction and layout optimization. This paper constructs the railway passenger transport network of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle based on the 46 863 617 railway passenger transport data, and uses GIS spatial analysis and social network analysis methods to analyze the space-time evolution of railway passenger transport links, the evolution of structure characteristics and the impact of network structure on economy and population in continuous time series. The results show that the polarization of railway passenger transport links in Chengdu Chongqing Economic Circle is obvious, and the passenger transport flow is mainly concentrated in Chengdu, followed by Mianyang, the main districts of Chongqing and Deyang, and other cities account for less than 20% of the passenger transport flow. The density of railway passenger transport network in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle is increasing year by year, but it is still at a low level. The railway passenger transport network has a low average path length and a high average clustering coefficient, and it is characterized by a small world. The degree centrality and betweenness centrality of Chengdu and the main districts of Chongqing are far more than those of other cities. The accessibility of railway passenger transport in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle is largely due to the intermediary role of Chengdu and the main districts of Chongqing. There is no railway passenger transport connection between most cities. The degree centrality, proximity centrality and intermediate centrality have positive effects on GDP, and pass the 1% significance level test. The degree centrality and intermediate centrality have negative impacts on the population, and pass the significance level tests of 5% and 10% respectively. Economic development and fast growing urbanization in China have caused severe air pollution, with frequent pollution episodes endangering the health of inhabitants and disturbing social activities, and as an expanding metropolis, Chengdu has suffered ever since. The concentration variations of main air pollutants, such as PM10, PM2.5 and NO2, often show periodicity because of meteorological impact and anthropic activities, and display orientation discrepancies due to influences of wind speed (WS), frequency and pollutant sources. These features have complicated the mechanisms of pollution episodes and deepened the difficulty in pollution control evaluation. The WS has significant influences on the periodicity and orientation variations in pollutant concentrations, and quantifying the influence of which is of high significance and provides sustainable foundations for pollution alleviation strategies. Different time-scale cycles (i.e., Diurnal, weekly, seasonal and annual), along with the WS, wind frequency, wind and spatial orientations in urban areas, were analyzed in this paper. Results show that the periodicity of diurnal, seasonal and annual cycles is remarkable, and weekly cycle is obvious by adding the influence of the WS in 16 orientations. The WS has direct impacts on pollutants varying in the range of 1.5–2.5 m/s, and has a remarkable diffusion effect on pollutants once above 2.5 m/s. Over heavy pollution hours in diurnal, weekly, annual cycles and transitional seasons, the WS had more significant influences on pollutants, and whereas the wind frequency is not the main impact factor for orientation variations. For Chengdu, the northeast orientation is suitable to construct a wind panel with a remarkable diffusion effect on pollutants, while air pollutions in the northwest and southwest orientations were severe with the WS below 1.5 m/s, and pollution diffusion in the north-northwest orientation was the worst. This work can provide guidance and reference for urban planning optimization and air environment protection in cities with air quality control considerations impacted by city wind. Attaining optimal eco-efficiency is of paramount importance in promoting the sustainable and harmonious development of the economy and environment within urban agglomerations. Firstly, this paper utilizes the Super-SBM model with undesirable output to measure the eco-efficiency (EE) of 64 cities in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei metropolitan region (BTHMR), the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), the Pearl River Delta (PRD), and the Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Zone (CCEZ) from 2006 to 2019. Secondly, this study puts forth a novel and comprehensive index system aimed at evaluating the urbanization efficiency and sheds light on the spatiotemporal changes in EE and urbanization efficiency. Finally, the STIRPAT model is used to examine the influencing factors of EE and to investigate the correlation between EE and urbanization efficiency. The study found that the overall EE of the four typical urban agglomerations is high, but the trend varies with a decrease of about 12.9% from 2006 to 2019. The mean EE is in the order of CCEZ > PRD > BTHMR > YRD, with mean values of 0.941, 0.909, 0.842, and 0.732, respectively. The level of science and technology and the urbanization efficiency have a significant positive impact on EE, while population, industrial structure, FDI, and greening level have an inhibitory effect on urban eco-efficiency. Based on the results, policy suggestions such as paying attention to regional heterogeneity and giving full play to the government's macro-regulatory role in shaping the economic and industrial structure are proposed to serve as a guide for the coordinated development of urban agglomerations under the Dual Carbon Target. The Local Climate Zone (LCZ) classification scheme is a vital method of building a category dataset for high-resolution urban land. For the development of urban meteorology, air pollution and related disciplines, the high-resolution classification data of urban buildings are very important. This study aims to create LCZ datasets with detailed architectural characteristics for major cities and urban agglomerations in China, and obtain more accurate results. We constructed 120 m resolution land use datasets for 63 cities (mainly provincial capitals, municipalities directly under the Central Government, important prefecture-level cities and special administrative regions) and 4 urban agglomerations in China based on the local climate zone (LCZ) classification scheme using the World Urban Database and Access Portal Tools method (WUDAPT). Nearly 100,000 samples were used, of which 76,000 training samples were used to provide spectral signatures and 23,000 validation samples were used to ensure accuracy assessments. Compared with similar studies, the LCZ datasets in this paper were generally of good quality, with an overall accuracy of 71–93% (mean 82%), an accuracy for built classifications of 57–83% (mean 72%), and an accuracy for natural classifications of 70–99% (mean 90%). In addition, 35% of 63 Chinese cities have construction areas of more than 5%, and the plateaus northwest of Chengdu and Chongqing are covered with snow all year round. Therefore, based on the original LCZ classification system, the construction area (LZC H) and the snow cover (LCZ I) were newly added as the basic classifications of urban LCZ classification in China. Detailed architectural features of cities and urban agglomerations in China are provided by the LCZ datasets in this study. Owing to the increasingly complex economic environment and difficult employment situation, a large number of new occupations have emerged in China, leading to job diversification. Currently, the overall development status of new occupations in China and the structural characteristics of new occupation practitioners in different cities are still unclear. This study first constructed a development index system for new occupation practitioners from five dimensions (group size, cultural appreciation, salary level, occupation perception, and environmental perception). Relevant data to compare and analyze the development status of new occupation practitioners were derived from the big data mining of China's mainstream recruitment platforms and the questionnaire survey of new professional practitioners which from four first-tier cities and 15 new first-tier cities in China. The results show that the development level of new occupation practitioners in the four first-tier cities is the highest, and the two new first-tier cities, Chengdu and Hangzhou, have outstanding performance. The cities with the best development level of new occupation practitioners in Eastern, Central, and Western China are Shanghai, Wuhan, and Chengdu, respectively. Most new occupation practitioners in China are confident about the future of their careers. However, more than half of the 19 cities are uncoordinated in the five dimensions of the development of new occupation practitioners, especially those cities with middle development levels. A good policy environment and social environment have not yet been formulated to ensure the sustainable development of new occupation practitioners. Finally, we proposed the following countermeasures and suggestions: (1) Establish a classified database of new occupation talents. (2) Implement a talent industry agglomeration strategy. Research shows that stress, a common problem in densely populated cities, can be relieved by exposure to the natural environment. As great significance has been attached to the relationship between the urban environment and public health, this paper aims to study the relationship and interaction between the perceived sensory dimensions of urban park green space, attention restoration, and state empathy. Therefore, we conducted an on-site questionnaire (PSD Scale) survey in four typical parks in Chengdu and recorded age, sex, daily stress, frequency of visits to parks, and other basic information from the respondents. In the survey and visit, we found that the group structure in the recreation area comprises chiefly of a few transient unfamiliar travelers and most long-haul neighborhood sightseers. Among long-haul vacationers, the greater part of them are moderately aged and older individuals in the encompassing local locations, whose lives are, for the most part, quick and proficient. Hence, to mirror the populace attributes of high-thickness metropolitan parks and to feature the agent bunches that have lived in the parks from here onward, indefinitely quite a while, the chosen bunches are somewhere in the range of 35 and 65 years old (half male and half female), so make sure there are no ailments, no drinking, and no late evenings in the earlier days, so a specific actual fundamental belief is kept up with. The main part of the exercise focused on the perceived dimension, state empathy, and attention restoration. The software SPSS24.0 was applied to the test of the validity and reliability of the perceived sensory dimension (PSD) Scale, and then the important correlation between the perceived sensory dimensions in the parks and visitors' attention restoration was analyzed through multiple linear regression. Finally, the moderating effect of state empathy was tested by PROCESS. The findings show that (1) only seven dimensions in the PSD Scale are effective; (2) Serene and Refuge in the perceived sensory dimensions have a significant effect on the restorative components of attention. (3) Except for the dimensions of Rich in Species and Refuge, empathy enhanced the moderation effect in the interaction between the other five dimensions of the Perceived Restorative Scale (PRS), especially in the interaction between the Social and PRS dimensions. However, this topic needs to be further explored to provide a scientific basis and design strategy for research on the restoration potential of urban park green space in high-density urban areas. In the context of the mid-late development of China's urbanization, promoting sustainable urban development and giving full play to urban potential have become a social focus, which is of enormous practical significance for the study of urban spatial pattern. Based on such Internet data as a map's Point of Interest (POI), this paper studies the spatial distribution pattern and clustering characteristics of POIs of four categories of service facilities in Chengdu of Sichuan Province, including catering, shopping, transportation, scientific, educational, and cultural services, by means of spatial data mining technologies such as dimensional autocorrelation analysis and DBSCAN clustering. Global spatial autocorrelation is used to study the correlation between an index of a certain element and itself (univariate) or another index of an adjacent element (bivariate); partial spatial autocorrelation is used to identify characteristics of spatial clustering or spatial anomaly distribution of geographical elements. DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) is able to detect clusters of any shape without prior knowledge. The final step is to carry out quantitative analysis and reveal the distribution characteristics and coupling effects of spatial patterns. According to the results, (1) the spatial distribution of POIs of all service facilities is significantly polarized, as they are concentrated in the old city, and the trend of suburbanization is indistinctive, showing three characteristics, namely, central driving, traffic accessibility, and dependence on population activity; (2) the spatial distribution of POIs of the four categories of service facilities is featured by the pattern of "one center, multiple clusters," where "one center" mainly covers the area within the first ring road and partial region between the first ring road and the third ring road, while "multiple clusters" are mainly distributed in the well-developed areas in the second circle of Chengdu, such as Wenjiang District and Shuangliu District; and (3) there is a significant correlation between any two categories of POIs. Highly mixed multifunctional areas are mainly distributed in the urban center, while service industry is less aggregated in urban fringe areas, and most of them are single-functional or dual-functional regions. In the context of urban quality enhancement, resilience focus, and the promotion of human-centered urbanization, a well-structured mixed land-use layout plays a pivotal role in intensifying conservation land use, enhancing land use efficiency, and improving residents' living environments. The existing research on measuring mixed land parcels is hampered by a lack of area and category data for POI point data, and some methods neglect the variations in function quantities. This paper establishes an optimal calculation model by incorporating the weighted optimization of POI data, introduces the concept of land gravity to supplement the entropy method, and computes the distribution of mixed land-use patterns. This paper analyzes both the spatial patterns of mixed land-use in urban areas and the potential laws governing the combination of internal functions. The results demonstrate that mixed-use parcels exhibit a spatial pattern resembling a "1 + n" pole-axis structure and a "T-type" development trend. Regarding the internal function combination, mixed-use parcels are generally found to include commercial and transportation functions. Analysis of the spatial–temporal pattern and trend of carbon emissions provides an important scientific basis for the development of a low-carbon economy. Based on the corrected NPP-VIIRS and DMSP/OLS nighttime light data, a carbon emission model for the Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Zone (CCEZ) in China is constructed. Furthermore, the article establishes an integrated qualitative and quantitative research system. The qualitative results show that at the city and county scales, the high carbon emission areas and counties are mainly distributed in Chengdu and Chongqing, while the low carbon emission areas are concentrated in the marginal cities of the CCEZ and the counties with low levels of industrialization around the Sichuan Basin. The high-carbon emission zone tended to expand to the north, and the low-carbon emission zone tended to expand to the south. At the grid scale, the carbon emissions of the CCEZ fluctuated and increased from 2000 to 2020, forming a trend connected with those of the central city, with high carbon emissions at the core and radiating outward expansion. Quantitative analysis revealed that carbon emissions at the county and grid scales exhibited a significant positive global spatial correlation, and the overall correlation degree exhibited an increasing trend. With the rapid expansion of cities, the construction of 15-minute communities has become an important way to improve the urban living environment and enhance the quality of life of residents. In this study, based on the perspective of a 15-minute community in Chengdu, the current situation of the spatial layout in the 12 main urban districts of 15,941 public service facility points is studied. Additionally, the matching relationship between the supply and demand of five major categories (19 subcategories) of public service facilities and the population is assessed by using the kernel density analysis method, the Gaussian two-step floating catchment area method, the hierarchical analysis method and the bivariate spatial autocorrelation. Finally, suggestions for the optimization of basic service facilities are made in the light of the current development situation in Chengdu. The results show that (1) there is a large spatial heterogeneity in the distribution and accessibility of public service facilities in the study area; (2) there is a mismatch between the supply and demand of public service facilities and the population in Chengdu; and (3) in order to further optimize the allocation of public service facilities, it is necessary to focus first on areas where demand exceeds supply. This study built a framework for assessing the current status of spatial distribution of public service facilities, which measures the 15-minute accessibility of basic public service facilities in a more comprehensive way and bridges the gap of previous single-type studies, which make it difficult to make comprehensive optimization recommendations directly. Meanwhile, the bivariate spatial autocorrelation reveals the areas of mismatch between supply and demand more accurately, and more clearly shows the areas that need to be focused on for optimization by policy makers. Ensuring the harmonization between urbanization and water environment systems is imperative for fostering sustainable regional development in the future. With urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas increasingly dominating urbanization trends in China, it is crucial to explore the interdependent relationship between urbanization and the water environment. Such exploration holds significant implications for water resource management and the formulation of urbanization policies. This study utilizes a comprehensive index system encompassing urbanization and the water environment. It examines the coupled and coordinated spatial and temporal dynamics of these systems within the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration from 2011 to 2019. This analysis employs the Coupled Coordination Degree model alongside the spatial autocorrelation model. The results show that there is still much room for improving the urbanization development level and the water environment quality. During the study period, a nonlinear and nearly U-shaped evolutionary trajectory was observed between the two systems. The results suggest that there is a progression from basic to more advanced coordination between urbanization and water environment at the city cluster scale. Urbanization appears to generally lag behind the water environment in terms of coordination. At the municipal scale, there is a gradient in which some cities show better coordination compared to others. Spatially, the coupling and coordination of this region exhibited dual-core development characteristics centered around Chengdu and Chongqing. The region is in the transition stage towards a core-type networked and decentralized development mode, which has not yet formed an integrated pattern. In this paper, Google Earth Engine (GEE) and the MODIS images from 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2022 were utilized to construct the Improved Remote Sensing Ecological Index (IRSEI) to characterize the ecological quality more accurately than RSEI. Additionally, combined with nighttime light remote sensing data, land use data and socio-economic data, the GDP sub-industry spatialization model was utilized to analyze the urbanization process in depth. To dynamically monitor and evaluate the interaction between urbanization and ecological environment quality, a coupling coordination model incorporating the above methods was developed. The results show that (1) The effective information of the IRSEI in ecological quality analysis increased by 3.26% compared to RSEI, and the correlation with each ecological index was higher; (2) The ecological environment quality of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration peaked in 2005 and has been declining since then, with the rate of decline gradually slowing down from 2005 to 2022; (3) The GDP sub-industry spatialization model is more suitable for characterizing the scattered villages, and can effectively exhibit the urbanization process. The issue of urban resilience plays great significance and value for the sustainable development of cities, which has attracted increasing attention from scholars and governments, especially in the western region of China. Based on the Production-Living-Ecological (PLE) system, this study attempts to describe urban resilience by the combination system that contains with P,L,E subsystem. The integrated approach including FAHP-EM,GRA-TOPSIS, CCDM, and ODM is proposed to reveal the urban resilience level and seek out the key constraints' indicators. Then, an empirical analysis of panel data of 18 cities in Sichuan Province from 2011 to 2021 was conducted to analyze the development process. With rapid urbanization, traffic growth has accelerated in some cities in China. Due to strict urban construction land utilization policies, many high-rise apartment buildings have been constructed adjacent to expressways. To better understand the impact of urban traffic noise on the residents of high residential buildings adjacent to expressways and the differences in noise impacts on different floors, on-site noise monitoring and questionnaires for building residents have been conducted. The characteristics of traffic noise were analyzed based on the measured data, and factors, including time periods and building floors, were considered. According to the results of the questionnaire survey, 56.06% of the male respondents and 54.55% of the female respondents think that the impact of traffic noise on high-rise buildings is "high" or "very high"; 50.53% of the respondents who were in "good" or "very good" condition thought that the traffic noise has a "significant impact" or "very significant impact" on their sleep and daily life. In addition, 25% of respondents living on floors 4–10 and 62.5% of respondents living on floors 11–20 considered the traffic noise to have a "significant impact" or "very significant impact" on their sleep and daily life. The on-site noise monitoring results show that the noise levels (LAeq) outside the windows of the studied buildings remain significantly elevated, with daytime noise on working days ranging from 56 to 70 dB(A), and on weekends ranging from 50 to 65 dB(A). During the four time periods on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., the average LAeq levels on floors 11–20 are higher than those on floors 4–10 by 4.04 dB(A), 4.92 dB(A), 4.06 dB(A), and 2.67 dB(A), respectively. Similarly, during these time periods on weekends, the levels on floors 11–20 are higher than those on floors 4–10 by 4.96 dB(A), 6.32 dB(A), 5.28 dB(A), and 5.24 dB(A), respectively. Urban areas with an imbalanced vulnerability to disasters have garnered attention. Building an urban resilience index helps to develop a progressively favored instrument for tracking progress toward disaster-resilient cities. However, there remains a lack of empirical studies on measuring urban resilience, with limited focus on the spatial-temporal characteristics of urban resilience to disasters, particularly relevant in developing nations like China. Thus, a refined urban resilience index to disasters based on the subcomponents of infrastructure, environment, socio-economy, and institution is suggested in this study. This index-based assessment framework is applied and validated to measure the spatial-temporal resilience using a real-world case study in Chengdu, China. The main findings of this study indicate that: (1) the overall urban resilience of Chengdu has been growing toward better conditions, with infrastructural resilience accounting for the majority of this growth. (2) The distribution of urban resilience exhibits a regional disparity and a spatially polarized pattern. (3) The agglomeration characteristics of urban resilience are significant. (4) There is a clear regional mismatch in the distribution of urban resilience to disaster risk. Urban green space (UGS) is increasingly recognized as a nature-based solution to achieving urban sustainable development. Under rapid urbanization, greening policies are often the main driving factor behind the restoration or even growth of UGS. In this study, Chengdu, the pioneering "park city" in China, is chosen as a representative region. Based on land use/land cover (LULC) and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data, indicators that can reflect both UGS quantity and quality are constructed and the spatio-temporal characteristics of UGS in original and expanding urban areas are also explored at different greening policy stages. The findings show that, from 2000 to 2022, the basic trend of UGS reduction during urbanization remained unchanged, despite the greening policies implemented in Chengdu. However, the original urban area has evolved into a new urban area. This has been achieved by integrating the expanded urban area with higher greening rates, resulting in the greening rate in 2022 (44.61%) being restored to the 2000 level (44.21%). The implementation of green policies in Chengdu is primarily reflected in improved UGS quality, especially in the stage of the ecological garden city construction (2008–2018). Specifically, the UGS quality in the original urban area has been improved by 25.25%. Overall, the UGS quality in Chengdu Urban Center has improved, changing from a medium level in 2000 to a medium-high level in 2022. The construction of a national demonstration zone of the park city provides an opportunity for the UGS quantity to increase and quality to improve in Chengdu in the future. However, effectively considering the development positioning of the Tianfu Granary to coordinate the relationship between UGS and high-quality farmland is a huge challenge for urban sustainable development in Chengdu. The design and optimization of urban form has always been a hot topic in urban planning and development research. Besides, the creation of continuous vitality in urban areas is of critical importance in the development of urbanization. However, due to the lack of data, it is difficult to measure the effects of urban form on neighborhood vibrancy. Additionally, no uniform conclusion has been drawn regarding to what degree urban form can contribute to neighborhood vibrancy. Taking advantage of emerging new data sources, the depth and breadth of related research can now be improved. Therefore, this paper uses high-precision positioning social media check-in data to approximate the vibrancy of 658 neighborhoods, and uses a geographical information system (GIS) to quantitatively measure the urban form indicators in the central area of Chengdu City, China. A quantitative exploration and analysis of the relationships between neighborhood vibrancy and urban form is conducted. The results of three regression models considering different explanatory variables show that socio-economic factors account for approximately 23% of neighborhood vibrancy. In addition, the correlation between the shape characteristics of a neighborhood and the vibrancy is weak. However, when the inner urban form indicators of neighborhoods are introduced into the regression model, the goodness of fit (R2) is nearly doubled. This finding indicates that strong associations exist between urban form and neighborhood vibrancy. Specifically, building density and functional diversity are positively correlated with neighborhood vibrancy. Unlike existing studies, this study finds that the road network within the neighborhood plays a positive role in the creation of neighborhood vibrancy. However, the impact of a road density indicator is not as powerful as the impacts of building density and functional diversity. To measure and present urban size urban spatial forms, in solving problems in the rapid urbanization of China, urban territorial scope identification is essential. Although current commonly used methods can quantitatively identify urban territorial scopes to a certain extent, the results are displayed using a continuous and closed curve with medium- and low-resolution images. This makes the acquisition and interpretation of data challenging. In this paper, by extracting discretely distributed urban settlements, road intersections in OpenStreetMap (OSM), electronic maps, and urban expansion curve based on fractal thoughts have been used to present urban territorial scope and spatial form. Guangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, and Shijiazhuang cities were chosen as the identification targets. The results showed that the distance threshold corresponding to the principal curvature point of the urban expansion curve plays a vital role in the extraction of urban settlements. Moreover, from the analysis, the optimal distance thresholds of urban settlements in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, and Shijiazhuang were 132 m, 204 m, 157 m, and 124 m, respectively, and the corresponding areas of urban territorial scopes were 1099.36 km2, 1076.78 km2, 803.07 km2, and 353.62 km2, respectively. A multi-lidar system, mounted in a vehicle to monitor the profiles of temperature, wind, and particle optical properties, was utilized to investigate the winter fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution from a vertical perspective in four cities in China in winter 2018. We observed the enhancement of surface nocturnal PM2.5 in two typical plains cities (Changzhou and Wangdu), which was attributed to the subsidence of PM2.5 transported from upstream polluted areas, with the wind turning north and downdrafts dominating. Combining the observed surface PM2.5 , the reanalysis meteorological data, and the GEOS-Chem model simulation, we revealed the transport nocturnal PM2.5 enhancement by subsidence (T-NPES) events that occurred frequently in the two cities, with percentages of 12.2 % and 18.0 %, respectively, during December 2018–February 2019. Furthermore, the GEOS-Chem model simulation further confirmed the ubiquity of winter T-NPES events on a large scale, including North China Plain and the Yangtze River Delta. Process analysis revealed that the subsidence was closely correlated with the southeasterly movement of the high-pressure system and the passage of the cold front, resulting in the increase of temperature aloft, a stronger inversion layer, and further PM2.5 accumulation in the atmospheric boundary layer. Thus, a conceptual model of the T-NPES events was proposed to highlight this surface PM2.5 enhancement mechanism in these plains regions. However, it did not apply to the two cities in the basin region (Xi'an and Chengdu) due to the obstruction of the weather system movement by the mountains surrounding the basin. The development of urbanization and the protection of the ecological environment are important aspects of sustainable development in urban agglomerations; thus, their coordination and synergy are crucial. Scholars in both China and other countries have conducted extensive research on the relationship between urbanization and the ecological environment from the perspective of coordinated development. However, there is a lack of research on the synergistic effects of urbanization and the ecological environment. Taking the Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomeration as an example, this study uses the Haken model to analyze the synergistic evolution mechanism, development patterns, and future trends of urbanization and the ecological environment. This study draws the following conclusions: (1) while a synergistic development mechanism has been established between urbanization and the ecological environment, the current system is still in a stage of low-level synergy, and the control system's parameter for the direction and path of evolution is urbanization. (2) From 2001 to 2020, the level of synergistic development between urbanization and the ecological environment was relatively low, mainly moving from low-level synergy to medium–low-level synergy to medium-level synergy. (3) There is a significant spatial disparity in the levels of synergistic development, for which the leading region centers on Chengdu and Chongqing in the northwest and southeast, respectively, and the lagging region comprises the eastern part of the urban agglomeration, mainly represented by Dazhou, Kaizhou, and Yunyang. (4) The future trend of synergistic development between urbanization and the ecological environment in the Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomeration is promising but requires increased infrastructure construction in mountainous urban areas, enhanced cooperation and circulation in transportation, logistics, information and other aspects, and balanced improvements in the level of synergistic development between urbanization and the ecological environment. Background: In 2022, Omicron outbreaks occurred at multiple sites in China. It is of great importance to track the incidence trends and transmission dynamics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to guide further interventions. Methods: Given the population size, economic level and transport level similarities, two groups of outbreaks (Shanghai vs. Chengdu and Sanya vs. Beihai) were selected for analysis. We developed the SEAIQRD, ARIMA, and LSTM models to seek optimal modeling techniques for waves associated with the Omicron variant regarding data predictive performance and mechanism transmission dynamics, respectively. In addition, we quantitatively modeled the impacts of different combinations of more stringent interventions on the course of the epidemic through scenario analyses. Results: The best-performing LSTM model showed better prediction accuracy than the best-performing SEAIQRD and ARIMA models in most cases studied. The SEAIQRD model had an absolute advantage in exploring the transmission dynamics of the outbreaks. Regardless of the time to inflection point or the time to Rt curve below 1.0, Shanghai was later than Chengdu (day 46 vs. day 12/day 54 vs. day 14), and Sanya was later than Beihai (day 16 vs. day 12/day 20 vs. day 16). Regardless of the number of peak cases or the cumulative number of infections, Shanghai was higher than Chengdu (34,350 vs. 188/623,870 vs. 2,181), and Sanya was higher than Beihai (1,105 vs. 203/16,289 vs. 3,184). Scenario analyses suggested that upgrading control level in advance, while increasing the index decline rate and quarantine rate, were of great significance for shortening the time to peak and Rt below 1.0, as well as reducing the number of peak cases and final affected population. Conclusions: The LSTM model has great potential for predicting the prevalence of Omicron outbreaks, whereas the SEAIQRD model is highly effective in revealing their internal transmission mechanisms. GPS is taken as the most prevalent positioning system in practice. However, in urban areas, as the GPS satellite signal could be blocked by buildings, the GPS positioning is not accurate due to multi-path errors. Estimating the negative impact of urban environments on GPS accuracy, that is the GPS environment friendliness (GEF) in this paper, will help to predict the GPS errors in different road segments. It enhances user experiences of location-based services and helps to determine where to deploy auxiliary assistant positioning devices. In this paper, we propose a method of processing and analysing massive historical bus GPS trajectory data to estimate the urban road GEF integrated with the contextual information of roads. First, our approach takes full advantage of the particular feature that bus routes are fixed to improve the performance of map matching. In order to estimate the GEF of all roads fairly and reasonably, the method estimates the GPS positioning error of each bus on the roads that are not covered by its route, by taking POIinformation, tag information of roads, and building layout information into account. Finally, we utilize a weighted estimation strategy to calculate the GEF of each road based on the GPS positioning performance of all buses. Based on one month of GPS trajectory data of 4835 buses within the second ring road in Chengdu, China, we estimate the GEF of 8831 different road segments and verify the rationality of the results by satellite maps, street views, and field tests. Overall scientific planning of urbanization layout is an important component of the new period of land spatial planning policies. Defining the main functions of different spaces and dividing urban functional areas are of great significance for optimizing the land development pattern. This article identifies and analyses urban functional areas from the perspective of data mining. The results of this method are consistent with the actual situation. In this paper, representative taxi trajectory data are selected as the research basis of urban functional areas. First, based on trajectory data from Didi Chuxing within the high-speed road surrounding Chengdu, we generated trajectory time sequence data and used the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm to generate a time series similarity matrix. Second, we utilized the K-medoid clustering algorithm to generate preliminary results of land clustering and selected the results with high classification accuracy as the training samples. Then, the k-nearest neighbour (KNN) classification algorithm based on DTW was performed to classify and identify the urban functional areas. Finally, with the help of point-of-interest (POI) auxiliary analysis, the final functional layout in Chengdu was obtained. The results show that the spatial structure of Chengdu is complex and that the urban functions are interlaced, but there are still rules that are followed. Moreover, traffic volume and inflow data can better reflect the travel rules of residents than simple taxi on–off data. The original DTW calculation method has high temporal complexity, which can be improved by normalization and the reduction of time series dimensionality. The semi-supervised learning classification method is also applicable to trajectory data, and it is best to select training samples from unsupervised learning. This method can provide a theoretical basis for urban land planning and has auxiliary and guiding value for urbanization layout in the context of land spatial planning policies in the new era. Due to the limited understanding of the physical and chemical processes involved in ozone formation, as well as the large uncertainties surrounding its precursors, commonly used methods often result in biased predictions. Deep learning, as a powerful tool for fitting data, offers an alternative approach. However, most deep learning-based ozone-prediction models only take into account temporality and have limited capacity. Existing spatiotemporal deep learning models generally suffer from model complexity and inadequate spatiality learning. Thus, we propose a novel spatiotemporal model, namely the Spatiotemporal Attentive Gated Recurrent Unit (STAGRU). STAGRU uses a double attention mechanism, which includes temporal and spatial attention layers. It takes historical sequences from a target monitoring station and its neighboring stations as input to capture temporal and spatial information, respectively. This approach enables the achievement of more accurate results. The novel model was evaluated by comparing it to ozone observations in five major cities, Nanjing, Chengdu, Beijing, Guangzhou and Wuhan. All of these cities experience severe ozone pollution. The comparison involved Seq2Seq models, Seq2Seq+Attention models and our models. The experimental results show that our algorithm performs 14% better than Seq2Seq models and 4% better than Seq2Seq+Attention models. We also discuss the interpretability of our method, which reveals that temporality involves short-term dependency and long-term periodicity, while spatiality is mainly reflected in the transportation of ozone with the wind. The growth simulation of urban underground space (UUS) under the consideration of ecological constraints can effectively reveal the characteristics and trends of UUS changes, and provide a basis for planning the construction of sustainable and livable ecological cities. Therefore, this study considers urban ecological space as a constraint mechanism for UUS development and conducts a simulation study of the dynamic and complex UUS growth process, with a view toward guiding UUS planning under a long-term overall vision. In this study, a patch-based cellular automaton (CA) model is constructed to simulate the dynamic and complex growth process of UUS, subject to the ecological constraints generated by the agent-based land allocation optimization model. The spatial drivers of UUS growth simulation are determined based on the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. The results of the research case in Tianfu New District, Chengdu City, demonstrate that UUS expansion with ecological constraints exhibits sustainable characteristics. However, the growth rate of the UUS development scale is significantly lower when ecological constraints are present compared to when they are not. This study's results contribute to urban management by finding a balance between UUS development and ecological space conservation, and providing theoretical support for rational UUS planning and decision making in the construction of low-carbon cities. Disturbances that occur due to the construction of new subway transfer channels in cities pose a significant threat to the safe operation and structural stability of existing subway stations. Due to the construction of the new Jin-Fu Station of Chengdu Rail Transit Line 27, the transfer channel of the new Jin-Fu Station closely underpasses the station of the existing Metro Line 6. First, based on the random medium theory, the curved integral boundaries of the rectangular section are improved and simplified by the numerical simulation. Second, the mechanical response of the underpass construction to the existing subway station is analyzed by Pasternak foundation model theory. Finally, the accuracy of the theoretical calculation is verified by the three-dimensional numerical calculation and the measured data, and the sensitivity of its parameters is analyzed. The results show that maintaining a certain net distance d (that is, increasing the thickness of the interlayer soil) is conducive to forming the soil arch effect and reducing the deformation of the existing station above. The settlement of the existing station can be reduced by increasing the height-to-width ratio of the excavated section, but the maximum bending moment of the floor will increase slightly. With the increase in the foundation reaction coefficient k, the interaction between the soil mass and the existing station is enhanced, and the deformation, bending moment, and shear force on the floor of the existing station increase significantly. Urban shrinkage has gradually become an issue of world-concerning social matter. As urbanization progresses, some Chinese cities are experiencing population loss and economic decline. Our study attempts to correct and integrate DMSP/OLS and NPP/VIIRS data to complete the identification and measurement of shrinking cities in China's Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB). We identified 36 shrinking cities and 644 shrinking counties on the municipal and county scales. Based on this approach, we established the average urban shrinkage intensity index and the urban shrinkage frequency index, attempting to find out the causes of shrinking cities for different shrinkage characteristics, city types and shrinkage frequencies. The results show that (1) the shrinking cities are mainly concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta city cluster, the midstream city cluster and the Chengdu–Chongqing economic circle. (2) Most shrinking cities have a moderate frequency of shrinking, dominated by low–low clusters. Resource-based, heavy industrial, small and medium-sized cities are more inclined to shrink. (3) The single economic structure, the difficulty of industrial transformation and the lack of linkage among county-level cities are possible reasons for the urban shrinkage in the YREB. As part of urban green space and emergency shelters, refuge green spaces (RGS) contribute significantly to the resilience of cities to natural disasters. In contrast, few studies have been conducted to assess the equity of RGS in relation to their planning layout. The presented research aims to quantitatively evaluate the equity of RGS within Chengdu's Third Ring Road, and to propose corresponding optimization measures in conjunction with future green space planning. The rapid evacuation capacity of the RGS was evaluated by calculating the equity of the RGS in walking modes of 5, 10 and 15 min using an improved three-step floating catchment area method (3SFCA). Based on the results, RGS had an average equity in the study area. The total number of RGS within the Third Ring Road of Chengdu was insufficient, with an uneven spatial distribution and a structure to be optimized. The rapid evacuation capacity of RGS in 5 and 10 min needs to be further improved. The short-term resettlement capacity of RGS after 15 min was relatively good. Using Moran's I index, the RGS equity and house price results were analyzed and no significant aggregation and polarization were observed. Following the evaluation, recommendations are made for optimizing and adding future RGS in accordance with Chengdu Green Space System Planning. The equity of RGS has been significantly improved after optimization, which can meet the needs of over 90% of residents for 15 min. This study provided feasible suggestions for the layout and structural optimization of the future RGS within the Third Ring Road of Chengdu, which aimed to create a RGS network with complex functions, to meet the multiple needs of citizens. The urban heat island phenomenon in large cities is becoming increasingly serious as urbanization continues to develop, seriously affecting the lives of urban residents. Rivers can effectively alleviate urban heat islands and improve the thermal comfort of riverfront space in summer. Thus, the effect of rivers on the urban microclimate environment is studied in this work. A section of the Fu River in the inland city of Chengdu was selected as the research object, and a combination of experimental and numerical simulation methods was employed. ENVI-met software was used to study the river's influence on the air temperature, relative air humidity, and the thermal comfort of the riverfront space. The measured experimental parameters are first used to verify the accuracy of the ENVI-met software simulation results, which are then employed to carry out simulation research. The simulation results suggest that the different types of underlying surfaces have varying impacts on the air temperature and relative air humidity. Rivers have a significant cooling effect on the regional thermal environment, and roads have a warming effect on the air temperature. The order of influence of different underlying surfaces on air temperature is as follows: rivers > roads > trees. Rivers have an obvious humidifying effect on the air, and roads have little effect on relative air humidity. The order of influence of different underlying surfaces on relative air humidity is as follows: rivers > trees > roads. The two prerequisites for monitoring SDG11.A "support positive economic, social and environmental links between urban, peri-urban and rural areas by strengthening national and regional development planning" are the classification of the urban–rural continuum and the extraction of spatial links. However, the complexity and diversity of urban patch distribution make it difficult to achieve a global rapid assessment. Based on the self-developed high-resolution global impervious surface area 2021 (Hi-GISA 2021) product, this study combined the complex network with remote sensing technology to propose a new method to delineate and evaluate the pattern and inner spatial links of the urban–rural continuum for five typical urban agglomerations in China, including the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei urban agglomeration (BTHUA), the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration (YRDUA), the Greater Bay Area (GBAUA), the Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomeration (CYUA), and the Middle Reaches of Yangtze River urban agglomeration (MRYRUA). The research results are in good agreement with Chinese government documents. First, the five urban agglomerations are all small-world networks with a low degree of overall polycentricity, and the urbanization degrees of GBAUA and YRDUA are higher than BTHUA, CYUA, and MRYRUA. Second, the imbalanced development of YRDUA is higher than the other regions, and the siphon effects of BTHUA and MRYRUA are more significant than YRDUA, CYUA, and GBAUA. Third, some multi-centers show significant siphon effects. The urbanization degree is highly correlated with the urbanization potential but not positively correlated with the degree of balanced development. In order to realize low-carbon and high-quality development, this study took the carbon emissions of each district and county in the Chengdu–Chongqing region from 2005 to 2017 as the research object and used the spatial autocorrelation model to analyze the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of carbon emissions in the counties of the Chengdu–Chongqing region, so as to fill in the research blank of carbon emissions in the counties of the Chengdu–Chongqing region. Then, the geographical detector model is used to explore the interaction among influencing factors of carbon emissions and reveal the time changes and regional differences of influencing factors, so as to improve the lack of spatial and temporal heterogeneity of influencing factors of carbon emissions by geographical detector. The results show the following: (i) The overall carbon emissions of counties show a year-on-year growth trend with the main urban areas of Chengdu and Chongqing as the core, but the growth rate slows down after 2010. (ii) The carbon emissions showed a significant positive spatial autocorrelation, and the neighboring counties showed a spatial clustering characteristic of "high-high" or "low-low", and the clustering status tended to be enhanced. (iii) The carbon emissions are strongly influenced by industrial structure, economic development, investment level, financial situation, urbanization rate and social consumption, and their interactions are all enhanced, but the influence mostly tends to rise first and then fall. (iv) County carbon emissions can be divided into four types of geographical types, such as population size influencing type, urbanization rate influencing type, economic development influencing type and industrial structure influencing type. Therefore, a variety of factors need to be considered comprehensively, a multi-pronged approach, and a comprehensive policy to realize low-carbon transformation in the Chengdu–Chongqing region. The expansion of urban areas and the increase in the number of buildings and urbanization characteristics, such as roads, affect the meteorological environment in urban areas, resulting in weakened pollutant dispersion. First, this paper uses GIS (geographic information system) spatial analysis technology and landscape ecology analysis methods to analyze the dynamic changes in land cover and landscape patterns in Chengdu as a result of urban development. Second, the most appropriate WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) model parameterization scheme is selected and screened. Land-use data from different development stages in the city are included in the model, and the wind speed and temperature results simulated using new and old land-use data (1980 and 2015) are evaluated and compared. Finally, the results of the numerical simulations by the WRF-Chem air quality model using new and old land-use data are coupled with 0.25° × 0.25°-resolution MEIC (Multi-resolution Emission Inventory for China) emission source data from Tsinghua University. The results of the sensitivity experiments using the WRF-Chem model for the city under different development conditions and during different periods are discussed. The meteorological conditions and pollution sources remained unchanged as the land-use data changed, which revealed the impact of urban land-use changes on the simulation results of PM2.5 atmospheric pollutants. The results show the following. (1) From 1980 to 2015, the land-use changes in Chengdu were obvious, and cultivated land exhibited the greatest changes, followed by forestland. Under the influence of urban land-use dynamics and human activities, both the richness and evenness of the landscape in Chengdu increased. (2) The microphysical scheme WSM3 (WRF Single–Moment 3 class) and land-surface scheme SLAB (5-layer diffusion scheme) were the most suitable for simulating temperatures and wind speeds in the WRF model. The wind speed and temperature simulation results using the 2015 land-use data were better than those using the 1980 land-use data when assessed according to the coincidence index and correlation coefficient. (3) The WRF-Chem simulation results obtained for PM2.5 using the 2015 land-use data were better than those obtained using the 1980 land-use data in terms of the correlation coefficient and standard deviation. The concentration of PM2.5 in urban areas was higher than that in the suburbs, and the concentration of PM2.5 was lower on Longquan Mountain in Chengdu than in the surrounding areas. Recent advances in the fusion technology of remotely sensed data have led to an increased availability of extracted urban information from multiple spatial resolutions and multi-temporal acquisitions. Despite the existing extraction methods, there remains the challenging task of fully exploiting the characteristics of multisource remote sensing data, each of which has its own advantages. In this paper, a new fusion approach for accurately extracting urban built-up areas based on the use of multisource remotely sensed data, i.e., the DMSP-OLS nighttime light data, the MODIS land cover product (MCD12Q1) and Landsat 7 ETM+ images, was proposed. The proposed method mainly consists of two components: (1) the multi-level data fusion, including the initial sample selection, unified pixel resolution and feature weighted calculation at the feature level, as well as pixel attribution determination at decision level; and (2) the optimized sample selection with multi-factor constraints, which indicates that an iterative optimization with the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), the modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI), and the bare soil index (BSI), along with the sample training of the support vector machine (SVM) and the extraction of urban built-up areas, produces results with high credibility. Nine Chinese provincial capitals along the Silk Road Economic Belt, such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Xining, and Nanning, were selected to test the proposed method with data from 2001 to 2010. Compared with the results obtained by the traditional threshold dichotomy and the improved neighborhood focal statistics (NFS) method, the following could be concluded. (1) The proposed approach achieved high accuracy and eliminated natural elements to a great extent while obtaining extraction results very consistent to those of the more precise improved NFS approach at a fine scale. The average overall accuracy (OA) and average Kappa values of the extracted urban built-up areas were 95% and 0.83, respectively. (2) The proposed method not only identified the characteristics of the urban built-up area from the nighttime light data and other daylight images at the feature level but also optimized the samples of the urban built-up area category at the decision level, making it possible to provide valuable information for urban planning, construction, and management with high accuracy. Cultivated land is the principal land source for urban expansion. Recent large-scale urban expansion through the occupation of cultivated land has influenced regional food security and the realization of sustainable development goals. Based on data regarding the cultivated land occupied for urban construction in the Chengdu metropolitan area from 2000 to 2018, the spatio-temporal evolution of cultivated land occupied by urban expansion was analysed using the contribution index. Based on a model comparison, the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model was used to explore the spatio-temporal pattern and evolution path of significant driving factors. The results demonstrate that (1) the total area of cultivated land occupied by urban expansion from 2000 to 2018 was 470.528 km2 and mainly concentrated in the main urban area of Chengdu City and its surrounding districts and counties. The K value continued to decline from 93.23 to 37.48, indicating that the contribution of cultivated land in urban expansion is decreasing. (2) The GWR model, with a better fitting effect, demonstrates that the significant factors that influence the cultivated land occupied by urban expansion in the study area gradually shift from population aggregation factors to food safety and the proportion of non-farming population. (3) The evolution type of the driving force is mainly dominated by continuous change, and there is significant spatial heterogeneity in the evolution path. The population density → proportion of non-farm population → grain yield → comprehensive and proportion of cultivated land → per capita fixed asset investment → comprehensive → proportion of non-farm population were typical pathways. (4) Realizing the coordination between urban system structural optimization and cultivated land protection policies in the Chengdu metropolitan area is an important way to guarantee regional food and ecological security and promote the green and high-quality development of the metropolitan area. Urbanization increases the scales of urban spaces and the sizes of their populations, causing the functions in cities and towns to be in short supply. This study carries out functional space identification on the Dujiangyan elite irrigation area based on remote sensing data and point of interest (POI) data from Open Street Map (OSM), enabling the use of POI data to analyze rural functional spaces. Research and development and big data can greatly improve the accuracy of spatial function recognition, but research on rural spaces has limitations regarding the amount of available data. The Dujiangyan Irrigation District has low spatial aggregation levels for functions, scattered functions and linear distributions along roads. The mixing degrees of regional functions are low, the connections between functional elements are insufficient, and the comprehensive functional quality is low. The features of various functional elements in the region are significant, mostly in the discrete distribution mode, and functional compounding has become a trend. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate spatial resources and improve the centrality of cities and towns to realize the optimal allocation of resources and enable the development of surrounding cities and towns. Located in the mountainous area of southwest China, the Chengdu–Chongqing urban agglomeration (CCUA) has been rapidly urbanized in the last 4 decades, which has led to a 3-fold urban area expansion, thereby affecting the weather and climate. To investigate the urbanization effects on the thermal environment in the CCUA under complex terrain, we conducted simulations using the advanced Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF V4.1.5) model together with combined land use scenarios and terrain conditions. We observed that the WRF model reproduces the general synoptic summer weather pattern, particularly for the thermal environment. It was shown that the expansion of the urban area changed the underlying surface's thermal properties, leading to the urban heat island effect, enhanced further by the complex terrain. The simulation with the future scenario shows that the implementation of idealized measures including returning farmland to forests and expanding rivers and lakes can reduce the urban heat island effect and regulate the urban ecosystem. Therefore, urban planning policy has the potential to provide feasible suggestions to best manage the thermal environment of the future city toward improving the livelihood of the people in the environment. The Chinese government launched the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan in 2013, and various stringent measures have since been implemented, which have resulted in significant decreases in emissions and ambient concentrations of primary pollutants such as SO2 , NOx , and particulate matter (PM). However, surface ozone (O3) concentrations have still been increasing in urban areas across the country. In a previous analysis, we examined in detail the roles of meteorological variation during 2013–2017 in the summertime surface O3 trend in various regions of China. In this study, we evaluated the effect of changes in multi-pollutant emissions from anthropogenic activities on O3 levels during the same period by using an up-to-date regional chemical transport model (WRF-CMAQ) driven by an interannual anthropogenic emission inventory. The Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model was improved with regard to heterogeneous reactions of reactive gases on aerosol surfaces, which led to better model performance in reproducing the ambient concentrations of those gases. The model simulations showed that the maximum daily 8 h average (MDA8) O3 mixing ratio in urban areas increased by 0.46 ppbv per year (ppbva-1) (p=0.001) from 2013 to 2017. In contrast, a slight decrease in MDA8 O3 by 0.17 ppbva-1 (p=0.005) in rural areas was predicted, mainly attributable to the NOx emission reduction. The effects of changes in individual pollutant emissions on O3 were also simulated. The reduction of NOx emission increased the O3 levels in urban areas due to the nonlinear NOx and volatile organic compound (VOC) chemistry and decreasing aerosol effects; the slight increase in VOC emissions enhanced the O3 levels; the reduction of PM emissions increased the O3 levels by enhancing the photolysis rates and reducing the loss of reactive gases on aerosol surfaces; and the reduction of SO2 emissions resulted in a drastic decrease in sulfate concentrations, which increased O3 through aerosol effects. In contrast to the unfavorable effect of the above changes in pollutant emissions on efforts to reduce surface O3 , the reduction of CO emissions did help to decrease the O3 level in recent years. The dominant cause of increasing O3 due to changes in anthropogenic emissions varied geographically. In Beijing, NOx and PM emission reductions were the two largest causes of the O3 increase; in Shanghai, the reduction of NOx and increase in VOC emissions were the two major causes; in Guangzhou, NOx reduction was the primary cause; in Chengdu, the PM and SO2 emission decreases contributed most to the O3 increase. Regarding the effects of decreasing concentrations of aerosols, the drop in heterogeneous uptake of reactive gases – mainly HO2 and O3 – was found to be more important than the increase in photolysis rates. The adverse effect of the reductions of NOx , SO2 , and PM emissions on O3 abatement in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu would have been avoided if the anthropogenic VOCs emission had been reduced by 24 %, 23 %, 20 %, and 16 %, respectively, from 2013 to 2017. Our analysis revealed that the NOx reduction in recent years has helped to contain the total O3 production in China.
