Purpose: This study analyzes the impacts of R&D expenditures on economic growth in Türkiye. Methodology: In this study, we explore the impact of R&D expenditure on economic growth in Türkiye. Annual time series from 1990 to 2021 are considered for this research examination based on the data availability. R&D expenditure, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, gross fixed capital formation, labor force, and tertiary ratio variables are used for the analysis and obtained from the World Bank. Based on machine learning, analyses were conducted using the Kernel Regularized Least Square method. Findings: The empirical analysis using KRLS shows that higher spending on research and development leads to a significant boost in economic growth. Furthermore, labor force participation, school enrolment (tertiary) ratio, and gross fixed capital formation are all significantly and positively associated with economic growth in Türkiye. Originality: The contribution of the paper is twofold: (1) it provides new scientific evidence based on the machine learning econometric method, the Kernel Regularized Least Square (KRLS); (2) many papers in the literature have only examined the relationship between R&D expenditures and economic growth, without controlling for other variables. We have used possible control variables such as labor force participation rate, school enrolment (tertiary) ratio, and gross fixed capital formation, which are also linked to economic growth models.

The relationship between finance and economy is a long-standing debate in the development literature. While some researchers argue that finance simply follows economic development, others argue that finance is a critical determinant of economic growth. Research findings on this issue vary across countries, periods, data sets, and research methodologies. On the other hand, the relationship between economic growth and financial inclusion is a relatively new area of study in the academic literature. The primary goal of financial inclusion is to ensure that everyone can access and use financial products at an affordable cost. In this context, access to and use of financial products is seen in the context of financial citizenship. This paper examines the impact of digital banking and financial inclusion on economic growth and household consumption in Turkey. For this purpose, financial inclusion and digital banking indices have been constructed. Furthermore, the relationship of these indices with the GDP index and household consumption index is examined using the three-stage least square (3SLS) method with two separate equations. The results show that digital banking and financial inclusion have a positive impact on economic growth and household consumption in Turkey.

ELECTRIC power consumption , *CARBON dioxide , *ERROR correction (Information theory) , *POLLUTION , *GROSS domestic product - Abstract
In this paper, effect of electricity consumption, growth and trade openness on CO2 emission in Turkey between 1970-2014 was analyzed. As an econometric method, ARDL (Auto Regressive Distributed Lag Model) bounds test approach was applied. The increase in electricity consumption, GDP and trade openness by 1% increases carbon dioxide emission by 0.15%, 0.60%, 0.17%, respectively. Error correction coefficient is negative and statistically meaningful. The impact of the variables on carbon dioxide emission clearly show that measures to be taken on environmental pollution in Turkey have become mandatory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Çalışmada, yenilenebilir enerji üretiminin ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki rolü, kantil regresyon (quantile regression) modeli ile araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemi olarak enerji datalarına ulaşılabilirlik ve datalarının yüksek frekansa sahip olması nedeniyle ABD ekonomisi tercih edilmiştir. 1990:Q1-2020:Q2 döneminin dikkate alındığı çalışmada, GSYH bağımlı değişken, biokütle enerjisi üretimi, güneş enerjisi üretimi ve rüzgâr enerjisi üretimi bağımsız değişkenler olarak modele dahil edilmiştir. Kantil regresyon analizi neticesinde söz konusu yenilenebilir enerjilerin üretiminin, ekonomik büyüme üzerinde genel olarak pozitif bir etkiye sahip oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır., This paper investigated the role of renewable energy generation on economic growth with the quantile regression model. The USA economy was chosen as the sample of the study due to the availability of energy data and the high frequency of these data. In the paper, considering the period 1990:Q1-2020:Q2, GDP was included in the model as a dependent variable, biomass energy generation, solar energy generation, and wind energy generation as independent variables. As a result of the quantile regression analysis, it was concluded that the generation of these renewable energies generally had a positive effect on economic growth.

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between sukuk issued by participation banks and economic growth in Turkey.Method: In this paper, Engle-Granger co-integration and Grenger causality approaches were used as methods. The sukuk issued by all participation banks operating in Turkey and real GDP figures have been analyzed for the period of 2013Q4-2021Q3. Findings: As a result of the Engle-Granger co-integration test, long-term statistically significant co-integration relationship was not found between the issuance of sukuk and real GDP. However, according to the Grenger causality test results, a one-way Grenger causality relationship from real GDP to sukuk issuances was found.Implications: According to the results of this paper, there is no co-integration relationship between the sukuk issued by participation banks and economic growth in Turkey. In other words, it was concluded that there is no long-term equilibrium relationship between the variables. In addition, the one-way Grenger causality relationship determined from economic growth to sukuk issuance shows that participation banks cannot contribute to economic growth with the sukuk instrument, on the contrary, they benefit from economic growth. The results of the study are in the opposite direction of the expected results.Originality: The originality of this study is that it is the first study to examine the relationship between variables in the context of Turkey using the Engle-Grenger co-integration and Grenger causality approach., Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’de katılım bankaları tarafından ihraç edilen sukuklar ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir.

This paper examines the impact of economic growth and foreign trade on the environmental pollution as measured by carbon dioxide emissions in Turkey. Here, we use the ARDL bounds testing approach recently developed by Pesaran et al. over the time period 1980-2010. The results suggest that there is a long-run relationship between variables with the estimated elasticities of 1.520 and 0.265, respectively. In other words, economic growth and trade openness increase environmental pollution in the long run. The main conclusion of this paper is that in order to fulfill National Climate Change Action Plan 2011-2023 to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, Turkey needs a revised environmental policy.

This investigation aims to examine the effects of energy efficiency improvements on economic growth for G7 countries during 1971-2018. To measure energy efficiency, we calculate the energy efficiency index (EEI) using the Fisher Ideal index decomposition method. This study utilizes capital and labor as control variables, in addition to the EEI variable, as determinants of economic growth. Methodologically, this paper conducts the LM (Lagrange Multiplier) bootstrap panel cointegration test which is developed by Westerlund ve Edgerton (2007), and the AMG (Augmented Mean Group) estimator of Eberhardt ve Teal (2010). Both methodologies take into consideration of cross-sectional dependency (CD) issue in the panel setting. The empirical results of this paper indicate that there is a cointegration relationship between the aforementioned variables. In detail, the impact of capital formation on economic growth is positive for all countries, while the effect of labor varies across countries. Besides, it is found that an improvement in energy efficiency leads to an advancement in economic growth for five out of seven G7 countries. The empirical findings of this paper provide some implications for policymakers., Bu çalışmanın temel amacı 1971-2018 yılları için G7 ülkelerindeki enerji verimliliği gelişmelerinin ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisini incelemektir.

Verilere Birim kök testi, ARDL modeli (ECM regresyon), model kararlılığı, LMS testi, değişen varyans testi, (Breusch Pagan Godfrey) Ramsey testi ve tanımlayıcı istatistik testi uygulanmıştır., Since both inflation and GDP are not a brand new concepts rather their relationships are expected nonetheless now as a debatable point among macroeconomists financial experts, strategy creators, lawmakers, and even population giving their own examination by direct exploration and presumption based on trend as before. According to this paper, GDP is the dependent variable while inflation (deflator), foreign direct investment, trade openness and population growth are the independent variables of the model. Both the date of the dependent and independent variables are gathered directly from the World Bank. The researcher has selected a sample of 35 years' time collection records from 1985 to 2020 taken away the World Bank's Ethiopia Economic Data repository. Fundamentally, the purpose of this paper is to survey the relationship between inflation and economic growth as well as to test the causes, sources, determinants, and effects of Ethiopian inflation. The data Unit root test, ARDL model (ECM regression), model stability, LMS test, heteroskedasticity test, (Breusch Pagan Godfrey) Ramsey test and descriptive statistics test is applied.

In economic theory, the economic growth effect of FDI is explained by internal growth models. In internal growth models, FDI has a positive impact on economic growth through many channels such as capital stock, technology and information transfer. But contrary to the theory, there are also conclusions in the empirical literature that FDI inputs do not have an effect on growth. In this study, the effect of FDI on economic growth in terms of N11 countries between 1984-2018 was examined by panel data analysis. The findings are that a 1% increase in FDI for the N11 countries boosted economic growth by 0.028%. In Korea, Nigeria, Indonesia, Pakistan and Mexico, FDI inflows increase economic growth. The findings support previous studies in the relevant literature., {"references":["Acar, M. (2016). This study aims to examine the relationship between the non-renewable energy consumption of the countries and their economic status since energy consumption and production appear to be interconnected phenomena. This study analyses the Eastern, Middle, North, South, and Western regions of the European continent from 1990 to 2014. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper to analyze the relationship between non-renewable energy consumption and economic growth in the European continent by region. The study adopts a panel causality process to examine the relationship between two phenomena. According to the empirical analyses, there is bidirectional causality between non-renewable energy consumption and economic growth in Eastern, Middle, North, and South European regions whereas a unidirectional relationship from non-renewable energy consumption to economic growth in the Western. Non-renewable energy consumption and economic growth are still interconnected phenomena in the European countries even though climate concerns, environmental precautions, and promotion to reduce unsustainable production.

It is discussed the effects on the environment of energy use at a high level depending on economic growth and development. It is the cause negative effects on air quality, and it brings with it important problems in terms of the environment we live in increasing of energy use in economic and social life. In this context, approaches are becoming more and more important based on the sustainability of economic development and growth. In this paper, the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption and carbon emissions in the context of sustainable growth in China during the period 1971-2014. The annual data were used in the paper, Johansen Cointegration, Ordinary Least Squares estimation, Error Correction Model Granger causality test methods have been performed. Obtained the findings show that the results of the Johansen Cointegration test and Ordinary Least Squares estimation are statistically significant. However, Error Correction Model Granger causality test results were not found to be significant. The findings show that economic growth and energy consumption has an impact on carbon emissions in China and reveals that the Sustainable Economic Growth approach is important for China.

The origins of economics are based on the balance between unlimited needs and scarce resources. This constraint has prompted economists to consider how to increase their production capacity and how much they will produce which good. In this historical process, it has become inevitable for economies to increase their production capacities and to realize structural transformations. At this point, the question arises in which sector the productivity and added value in production contribute more to economic growth. Agriculture is an important component of economic growth in developing countries and constitutes a large part of employment. Manufacturing has played a key role in rapid economic growth since the industrial revolution. On the other hand, with the liberalization period after 1980, it was understood that the share of manufacturing in production decreased and there was a tendency towards the services sector in developing countries. In this context, it is important to research the added values in agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors and to reveal sectoral productivity. The aim of this paper is to research the impacts of agriculture, manufacture, and services value-added on economic growth in Turkey using econometric analysis methods. For this purpose, the relationship between variables was analyzed using regression and Granger causality methods for the period 1969-2019. According to the results of the regression analysis, it was seen that the value added that contributed the most to economic growth was the services sector with 0.47. Next, came manufacturing with 0.32 and finally the agricultural sector with a coefficient of 0.19. Granger causality test results showed that there is a mutual causality relationship between economic growth and manufacturing value added. In addition, it appeared that there is a one-sided causality from economic growth to agricultural value added. Analysis results reveal that the value added in the agriculture and manufacturing industry does not support sufficiently economic growth. In this context, it should be encouraged by policymakers to increase the added value in agriculture and manufacturing industry.

Abstract: In this paper, effect of electricity consumption, growth and trade openness on CO2 emission in Turkey between 1970-2014 was analyzed.

Total factor productivity plays a crucial role in explaining overall economic growth. One of the important factors affecting the total factor productivity is the demographic structure of countries. All countries in the world are likely to experience demographic transition at some point. There are many channels through which demographic transition may impact total factor productivity. If a country wants to take full advantage of the demographic transition, proper policies should be implemented. This paper attempts to investigate the relationship between demographic factors and the likelihood of total factor productivity growth over the period of 1986-2017 in Turkey. Probit regression is applied to analyze the link between total factor productivity and demographic structure. The results show that an increase in income per capita, urban population, life expectancy at birth, and population density increases the likelihood of total factor productivity growth whereas an increase in capital stock per capita, dependency ratio, young dependency ratio, and fertility rate decreases the probability of total factor productivity growth.

The purpose of this study is to develop policy recommendations for indebted developing countries which have big balance of payment deficits due to high energy costs. For this reasons, the study initialy explores developed countries’ nuclear energy policies and hence, to guide developing countries (especially for Turkey and similar countries) who can adopt alternative energy resources to reach a sustainable and higher GDP per capita and to protect themselves against energy price volatilities. Therefore, in available theoretical studies, developing countries, also named as middle income countires whose GDP per capita is lower than developed countries, have been searching for different strategies to catch up the wealth level of developed countires from the aspect of catch-up effect in the Growth Theory. In the context of cross sectional and time series data, the paper anlaysis all available retroperspective panel data method which uses time interval between 1977-2014 for 14 developed and developing countires. The study employs Panel ARDL approach to serve the aim of the study. According to the emprical results, as expected, vector error correction coefficient was founded negaitvely and accepted numerical interval. Therefore, test results indicate that there has been significant and positive relationship between the increment of nuclear share in electricity production and GDP per capita. Countries, especially dependent on raw materials, can reduce reliance on energy import with nuclear energy sources, then they will have a stabilizer for a reasonable level of current deficits which may be necessary for economic growth. In conclusion, the results also indicates that nucluear energy production in developing countries can stimulate economic growth by lowering energy import related production costs in favor of country-wide producers.
