A mobile charging system (MCS) for electric vehicles (EVs) is presented in this paper. The proposed MCS has a 2-MWh energy storage capacity for charging five EVs simultaneously with 75-kW individual charging rates. The MCS would be rechargeable from the available power substations (three phase, 480 V) with 375-kW charging rate. The appropriate modular power interface is designed and implemented between the MCS, batteries of the EVs, and the power substations. This paper proposes the theoretical framework and the consequent application of the input–output feedback linearization (FL) control technique to linear induction motors (LIMs). LIM, additionally to rotating induction motor, presents other strong nonlinearities caused by the dynamic end effects, leading to a space-vector dynamic model with time-varying inductance and resistance terms and a braking force term. This paper, starting from a recently developed dynamic model of the LIM taking into consideration its end effects, defines a FL technique suited for LIMs, since it inherently considers its dynamic end effects. Additionally, it proposes a technique for the on-line estimation of the inductor resistance, based on model reference adaptive system (MRAS) on-line estimator; it has been exploited for adapting on-line the FL control action versus inductor resistance variations leading to undesirable steady-state tracking errors. The stability of the proposed MRAS on-line estimator has been proven theoretically, adopting the Popov's criterion for hyperstability. The proposed approach has been validated experimentally on a suitably developed test setup, under both no load and loaded conditions. It has been compared firstly with the simplest control structure, which is the scalar $V/f$ control, secondly under the same closed-loop bandwidths of the flux and speed systems, with the industrial standard in terms of high-performance control technique, i.e., field-oriented control. Many installations in the petrochemical industry routinely require medium-voltage adjustable speed drives (MV ASDs) with long output cables, particularly for offshore applications and land-based well applications. This paper describes the effects of using MV ASDs with long cables. It examines the major issue known as the “standing wave effect,” which may be more prominent at certain cable lengths, as well as the design solutions to ensure proper drive and motor functionality and performance. Examples of this unique phenomenon and the effectiveness of different mitigation measures are presented using simulations and actual data. Simulations are also used to provide a comparison of operating waveforms with two- and multilevel converters. This paper presents a novel technique for suppressing cable noise currents, the quadruplet-resonator-based ferrite-free choke (QR-based FFC), to eliminate the gigahertz (GHz) electromagnetic interference caused by noise currents flowing on the cable shielding. This problem is difficult to handle with conventional ferrite materials since their permeabilities dramatically degrade when the operating frequency goes up to several GHz. In this paper, with the aid of QR surrounding on the cable shielding, the FFC forms bandstop responses against the noise currents. The corresponding equivalent lumped circuit model is proposed and investigated. Furthermore, the synthesis procedure is established using microwave filter theory. The QR-based FFC can achieve a high-level current suppression at the desired frequency band. This technology is experimentally verified: a given design example is demonstrated at the operating center frequency of 2.57 GHz. The frequency range of 3-dB current suppression is measured from 2.47 to 2.75 GHz (FBW = 10.8%), where the highest suppression level is up to 36 dB. The FFC-added cable also demonstrates a good result in the reduction of far-field radiation, where the reduction level of radiation peak gain is measured as 7 dB compared with that of a bare cable. Various methods have been presented in the past to emulate the electrical behavior of modular multilevel converters (MMCs). To meet the demands for the reliability aspect study of MMCs, this paper proposes a viable setup to emulate the thermal behavior and to investigate its feasibility for reliability testing and thermal model validation of the power modules in the MMC. The proposed mission profile emulator has three distinctive features: 1) capable of emulating and measuring the thermal stresses of power modules; 2) capable of implementing practical switching profile as a full-scale MMC; and 3) having significantly reduced requirement for dc power supply compared to existing setups used for electrical studies. Theoretical discussions, and simulations as well as the experimental results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the mission profile emulator both electrically and thermally. Analytical expressions that have been derived to calculate ac resistance and losses of magnetic devices at high frequencies have primarily used a one-dimensional approximation, and have used Cartesian coordinates or approximations that are equivalent to Cartesian coordinates. The result is Dowell's equation. This paper examines the effect of winding curvature on the losses relative to Dowell's equation by solving the problem completely in cylindrical coordinates. The error in Dowell's equation relative to a full cylindrical solution is found to be as great as 33% for some designs. A mathematical model is derived for the relative error between the two solutions, which can be used to assess the accuracy of Dowell's equation for a particular design, as well as a correction factor for Dowell's equation. The corrected Dowell's equation using the model is validated using finite-element analysis simulations as well as previously published experimental data. In this paper, a new dc–dc high voltage gain converter with low-voltage stresses on switches and diodes is proposed. Even though, in the topology of the proposed converter there are not any coupled inductors and transformer utilized, the voltage conversion ratio of the proposed converter is considerable in comparison to its conventional types. Also, two switches of the proposed converter provide longer charge time for two inductors which make the proposed converter capable of providing high voltage gain without preselecting extremely large duty cycles. In addition, the number of power circuit components of the proposed structure are few and the voltage stresses on semiconductor elements are low. In this paper, theoretical analysis of the proposed converter for each operating mode is presented and the voltage gain, voltage and average current stresses of elements, maximum input current ripple, efficiency and equations of critical inductances are calculated. Moreover, to verify the capability of the proposed converter, it is comprehensively compared with other similar recently presented high voltage gain boost converters. Finally, an approximately 12 V/380 V and 520-W prototype of the proposed converter is implemented in laboratory to demonstrate its practical performance, then, the experimental results reconfirm each other and theoretical analysis. This paper presents bidirectional grid-connected modular multilevel converters (MMC) with direct digital control and division-summation processes to achieve power-injection and rectification functions. A direct digital control is developed to track current references, regulate dc-bus voltage and cell voltage, and balance the upper and lower dc-bus voltages. It can accommodate wide filter-inductance variation and take care of source voltage harmonics to achieve tight current tracking and low distortion output current. Based on the power-balance principle, the commands of arm currents can be determined directly. In this paper, the MMC configuration is introduced first, and then the control laws for current tracking and voltage regulation are derived in detail. This paper presents a new configuration of high gain (HG) single ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC) with a ripple-free input current to maximize the efficiency of the PV panel for standalone water pumping system (WPS). The ripple eliminating circuit combined with the HG SEPIC converter to achieve reduced ripples in photovoltaic (PV) current is independent to the duty cycle control and hence, it can be easily integrated to the main power circuit of configuration. This circuit does not need any active switches, control, or drive circuit for its execution. The ripple eliminating circuit yields a complete removal of the electrolytic capacitor connected across the PV array and significantly reduces the inductance of the HG SEPIC converter. It also improves the response and power density of the dc–dc converter. The large gain of dc–dc converter enables the use of low-voltage PV panel and minimizes the partial shading and parasitic capacitance effects on PV array source. Due to the substantial compatibility between natural characteristics of switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive and WPS, a four-phase SRM drive is utilized in the proposed scheme. In addition, a single current sensor based maximum power point tracking technique is utilized in the proposed system, which helps to reduce the cost and improve the accuracy of the overall system. Unipolar-pulsewidth modulation (UP-PWM) inverter takes advantages of high power efficiency and small output chokes which is widely used in the industry. However, UP-PWM inverters cannot be used in parallel operation due to a current unbalance problem. This paper studies the current unbalance problem of paralleled UP-PWM inverters with common dc bus and ac bus. First, the problem of unbalanced inductor current is defined and analyzed. Second, a technique to eliminate unbalanced currents is proposed. The proposed current balancing technique only requires one more current sensor in an inverter module rather than changing converter topology or modulation method, which makes it possible to apply UP-PWM inverters in parallel-operation while keeping the advantages of unipolar switching. The proposed current balancing method is verified by both simulation and hardware experiment. Inductor–capacitor (LC) filter in current source converter (CSC) exits resonance peak, which result in reducing control stability and amplifying harmonic component near resonance frequency. This study proposed a simply self-adjust notch filter active damping method for CSC. A notch filter is inserted into control loop to damp the control gain at resonance frequency, no need of additional sensor. The grid inductance varies as power system operating conditions change, which deteriorates notch filter damping performance because of resonance frequency changing. The harmonic impedance estimation method is used in the paper to estimate grid inductance and actively adjust notch filter centre frequency. This paper presents a novel integrated-stage light-emitting diode (LED) driver based on Flyback and resonant converters. The Flyback converter realizes power factor correction in the discontinuous conduction mode. The resonant converter is operated as a dc–dc converter to support the LED loads. Moreover, the resonant converter can clearly decrease the drain–source voltage of the active switch and exhibits zero-voltage-switch characteristics. Therefore, a cost-effective MOSFET can be chosen as the main control component that can decrease the cost of the whole system. Compared to a single-active-switch converter (such as Class-E converter), the number of passive components in the resonant converter can be limited to four. Therefore, the power density of the system can be improved drastically. In this paper, a new family of impedance source inverters is presented. It employs high-frequency electrical isolation between the inverter bridge switches and the load along with voltage clamping across the dc-link voltage. Conventional Z-source inverters (ZSIs) employs an impedance network that consists of inductors and capacitors. It has unique features that realize both step-up/step-down functions and eliminates the need of dead/overlap times. This paper extends this novel concept by using electrical isolation in impedance source inverters. High-frequency isolation has many advantages in terms of immunity and reliability; when applied with impedance source inverters this makes ZSIs a preferable choice for industrial applications. In photo-voltaic systems, the addition of the high-frequency transformer provides safety by avoiding the injection of dc circulating current into the grid, without the need of an external bulky line frequency transformer. The gain of the proposed inverter design can be accurately selected by choosing the turns ratio of the high frequency transformer (HFT) or by adjusting the shoot-through duty cycle (STDC) to the inverter. This allows for greater freedom especially when utilizing a higher modulation index, with the STDC allowing dynamic gain adjusts to be done speedily during operation of the inverter. Additionally, a dc-rail voltage clamping technique for the proposed class of isolated ZSIs is also discussed. This technique provides benefits not only in improving the output voltage quality, but also in reducing voltage stress of the active and passive components by minimizing the voltage spikes across the switching devices. In this paper, several high-frequency isolated ZSIs are presented, and an example isolated improved ΓZSI design is shown and discussed in detail. Simulations are provided for the proposed class of isolated inverters to verify their working. Further experimental investigation has been done for which results for the isolated improved ΓZSI are reported. This paper presents an adaptive multi-loop control scheme for inverters interlinking dc voltage sources to single-phase, low-voltage ac grids. Control self-adaptation is particularly useful in the case of weak grids that, due to frequent physical modifications (e.g., network reconfigurations and disconnection of generators/loads) and intrinsic lack of inertia, present strongly time-variant characteristics. The solution presented in this paper is based on a high-performance converter controller with auto-tuning capabilities. It is shown that the applied auto-tuning method can significantly widen the stability region of the interlinking converter, covering a broad range of grid impedance values. In addition, within the stable region, the controller maintains the nominal performance. Experimental results are reported validating the proposed approach in realistic operating conditions, including grid voltage distortion and variations of amplitude and frequency. This paper presents an interleaved boost converter with a bifold Dickson voltage multiplier suitable for interfacing low-voltage renewable energy sources to high-voltage distribution buses and other applications that require a high-voltage-gain conversion ratio. The proposed converter was constructed from two stages: an interleaved boost stage, which contains two inductors operated by two low-side active switches, and a voltage multiplier cell (VMC) stage, which mainly consists of diodes and capacitors to increase the overall voltage gain. The proposed converter offers a high-voltage-gain ratio with low voltage stress on the semiconductor switches as well as the passive components. This allows the selection of efficient and compact components. Moreover, the required inductance that ensures operation in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) is lower than the one in the conventional interleaved boost converter. The distinction of the proposed converter is that the inductors’ currents are equal, regardless of the number of VMCs. Equal sharing of interleaved boost-stage currents reduces the conduction loss in the active switches as well as the inductors and thus improves the overall efficiency, as the conduction power loss is a quadratic function. In this paper, the theory of operation and steady-state analysis of the proposed converter are illustrated and verified by simulation results. In a dual active bridge (DAB) dc–dc converter, modulating the phase-shift ratios can suppress reactive power and increase the efficiency under non-unity voltage gain conditions. Derivation of the optimal phase-shift ratios to achieve the minimum reactive power is challenging because a DAB can operate in four different scenarios (forward/backward, buck/boost) and each scenario has five operating modes. This paper first introduces a transformation in which different DAB operating scenarios (forward/backward, buck/boost) can be equivalent to one another; then optimization of only one scenario (forward/buck) is required. Next, for the five modes in forward/buck scenario, based on a graphical method, this paper proves that each operating point of Modes 1, 2, and 5 can be mapped into that of Mode 3 with lower conduction losses, and only two modes require detailed analysis. The optimization process of these two modes are derived step-by-step. Global optimal phase-shift signals that minimize the reactive power under four different DAB operating scenarios (forward/backward, buck/boost) are presented. A simple table and control block diagram are presented for practical implementation of global reactive-power minimization control. The fast dc line protection is one of the key techniques for the multi-terminal flexible dc grid whose main technical difficulty lies in quick and reliable fault identification. The traditional protection principles for the ac system are not suitable for the flexible dc grid, and those for the conventional dc transmission system can also not be applied directly. Therefore, the frequency-domain traveling-wave boundary characteristics after faults are analyzed first in this paper to find the critical condition for distinguishing the internal and external faults as well as the forward and backward faults. And then, a novel single-ended transient-voltage-based protection strategy for flexible dc grid was proposed, which mainly consists of the fault identification criterion and the direction criterion. The protection scheme used wavelet transform to extract transient voltage energy. In order to eliminate the influences of the wavelet transform boundary effect and converter blocking, the principle to select the proper data window was proposed. Compared with the existing traveling-wave-based dc protection, the proposed method has a higher reliability and stronger ability to endure high transition resistance, which was verified by lots of simulation cases based on the PSCAD/EMTDC. This paper describes a study on the high-voltage compact solid-state pulsed-power modulator for parallel reactor operation. The current capacity of the pulsed modulator has been improved to drive multiple reactors in parallel. The pulse discharge switch uses the IXYK120N120C3 (1200 V/120 A) insulated-gate bipolar transistor for a high current output. The gate driver has been improved according to the characteristics of the replaced switch. The output specifications of the modified pulsed-power modulator are a maximum output voltage of 40 kV, a maximum output current of 300 A, a pulsewidth ranging from 1.5 to $5~\mu \text{s}$ , a maximum repetition rate of 3 kHz, and an average power of 13 kW. The modulator has the dimensions of $450 \times 475 \times 600$ mm3, a maximum peak power of 12 MW, and a maximum power density of 93 kW/L. A resistive load experiment and a plasma reactor parallel drive test were performed. Four parallel reactors were driven using one modulator. In this paper, a current controller for a parallel operation of inverters is described. When inverters operate in parallel, it is a well-known fact that the inverter current is composed of the average current (AVC) and the zero-sequence circulating current (henceforth ZSCC), which inevitably flows between inverters under the parallel operation. Considering this, previous studies concentrated on reducing ZSCC. However, in this paper, it is found that the inverter current has another component, a differential current, in addition to the two components of AVC and ZSCC. Based on these three decomposed current components, three equivalent circuits are derived from n-paralleled inverters. To minimize the differential current and improve the regulation performance of the total output phase current, a decomposed current control scheme is proposed from equivalent circuit models. The proposed algorithm is applied to a system consisting of three paralleled two-level inverters with small shared inductance whose dc links are connected in common. Additionally, synchronous pulsewidth modulation is employed as the PWM method for each inverter. The proposed current controller is compared with two conventional current controllers, one where each inverter controls its own currents and the other where only AVC is controlled. Through experiments, it is shown that these conventional controllers have limitations and the proposed current controller overcomes these limitations. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control scheme are verified through experimental results. Switching behavior analysis is an indispensable step for evaluating the steady-state performance of a bidirectional dc–dc converter and a prerequisite for soft-switching modulation design. For dual-bridge series resonant dc–dc converters (DBSRCs), the commonly used fundamental harmonic approximation (FHA) does not usually provide predictions accurate enough for reliable analysis and design. This paper discloses the exact closed-form solution for the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation conditions of DBSRCs for the most general case, in which all modulation quantities—i.e., phase shift, duty cycles, and switching frequency—are included. The proposed approach relies on a geometrical analysis of the converter state-plane trajectory, and allows us to analytically predict the ZVS or hard-switching state of any switch and for any given converter operating point. By inherently capturing the effects of all tank harmonics, the model disclosed in this paper shows higher accuracy than the conventional FHA-based approach, and translates into a practical tool for ZVS prediction and optimization at the converter design stage. Based on the derived analytical results, switching behavior of DBSRCs with minimum rms current trajectory (MCT) modulation is investigated, and an effective design choice of resonant-to-switching frequency ratio is presented, which contributes to reduced switching losses and enhanced efficiency. Furthermore, a variable frequency modulation scheme is formulated, achieving ZVS operation of all transistors over a wide input/output voltage range and efficiency improvement versus MCT technique. This paper presents a three-port three-phase current-fed dc–dc converter with high-frequency isolation and bidirectional power flow. Port I is fed by a battery bank, port II employs a set of photovoltaic modules, and port III is connected to a dc link. The topology uses three single-phase H-bridge cells in the primary side and a three-phase H-bridge converter in the secondary one. High-frequency isolation is ensured by three single-phase transformers connected in an open delta-wye configuration. The theoretical analysis is performed considering the fundamental component of the voltage across the transformers. Maximum power point tracking, the battery current, and the power flow between the primary and secondary sides are controlled by the use of variable duty cycle technique in the primary side and the use of phase-shift technique between the primary and secondary bridges. In order to validate the study, experimental results of the proposed system considering the dc rated voltages as 48 V/96 V/380 V for Ports I/II/III, respectively, and rated power of 3.5 kW are carried out. A dv/dt filter is useful to mitigate the deleterious effects of voltage pulses with high edge rates, such as voltage overshoot and ringing in motor drive systems, which can cause premature motor failure. With the introduction of wide-bandgap semiconductor drives, these issues will become more pronounced. This paper introduces a new type of dv/dt filter where the inductor, capacitor, and damping resistor are integrated into the output bus bar or cable of a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter. This integrated filter may be smaller, lighter, and cheaper to construct than filters built from discrete components. An analytical model of the integrated dv/dt filter is developed, and this model is used to design output filters for a 460 V AC, three-phase SiC motor drive. Prototype filters are constructed and tested with a SiC inverter connected to a 460 Vrms, 30-HP induction motor, and experimental results demonstrate output waveforms that match the analytical model and meet the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) MG 1 Part 31 requirements for inverter-rated motors. Finally, the voltage waveforms and losses of the prototype-integrated filter are compared with several other mitigation options, demonstrating that the integrated filters meet the NEMA specification at a fraction of the mass and volume of the discrete component solution without sacrificing efficiency. In this paper, a series-capacitor-based interleaving buck power factor correction (PFC) converter is proposed, the intermediate energy storage capacitance of which is operated at discontinuous capacitor voltage mode (DCVM), and automatic power factor (PF) correction for this converter is obtained. Moreover, the voltage across the series capacitor of the proposed PFC converter is clamped at the input voltage, and thus peak voltage stress existed in the traditional DCVM buck PFC could be relieved. By effectively regulating the charge/discharge time for the series capacitor, ultrahigh step-down conversion ratio of the proposed converter is achieved, the conversion ratio of which is independent of the duty cycle and only related to the switching frequency and circuit parameters. Therefore, high PF can be obtained due to very narrow deadtime of the input current. Meanwhile, the proposed PFC converter can realize the soft turn-on of part power switch and soft turn-off of part power diodes. In addition, comparing with the traditional discontinuous inductor current mode PFC, the input current of the proposed PFC converter is continuous so that the peak value and root-mean-square value of input current can be reduced. The operational principle, performance analysis, and parameter design principle are given in this paper. The analysis results show that the PF and total harmonic distortion are also independent of the duty cycle. This paper proposes an “isolated soft switching current fed LCC-T resonant dc–dc converter for PV/fuel cell applications.” This converter is able to achieve zero voltage switching for front-end inverter switches and zero-current switching for voltage doubler diodes. The majority of dc–dc converters have compact capacitive (C) filter in output, but high harmonic currents through transformer makes them bulky. The proposed converter attempts to improve harmonic content through a transformer under wide load and input variations as well as it can significantly reduce required turns ratio of transformer to achieve required output voltage. For the above reasons, the proposed converter can offer better footprints and therefore it can be a potential candidate for PV/fuel cell applications. This paper presents basic operating principal, detailed analysis, control, and design of the proposed converter with the help of an example. This converter operates in two modes, i.e., constant duty cycle mode and constant frequency mode, depending on load demand, and is explained through operating curves. Nonlinear inductors have wide applications in dc/dc converters. The multiwindow multipermeability nonlinear inductor based on low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology has been proven to have a gradually changing wide-range inductance value curve while requiring no extra dc bias, which makes them suitable in various high-efficiency dc/dc converters. This paper focuses on the design of such a multiwindow multipermeability inductor based on an innovative module. Currently, the design of the LTCC inductors requires complicated simulation when coupling matrices among all the windows are taken into consideration. A simplified model for calculating the inductance value is proposed in this paper to reduce complexity. In the proposed model, the complicated inductance simulation is simplified to calculating inductance of three basic units in a nine-window inductor. By simulating the nine-window inductor, inductance of a rectangle-shaped inductor with any number of evenly distributed windows on it can be calculated. Based on the proposed model, the design guideline of the nonlinear inductor is also summarized. A 16-window two-permeability prototype is presented to demonstrate the design process according to the new model. The complete simulation and the test results are also provided to verify the model. This paper describes a new method for the online parameter estimation of an induction heating system. Simulations and experiments are presented in order to measure its impedance matrix for more exact control in closed loop. In previous papers, various parameter identification methods including offline methods were introduced and compared for current inverters. It has been demonstrated that parameter identification is necessary to achieve good control of the inductor currents. A “pseudoenergy” method for a simple and fast implementation is compared to a classical “ $V/I$ with phase shift” method. A dual active bridge (DAB) converter promises high power density. The highest power transfer can be achieved by phase shift modulation inside the zero-voltage switching boundaries. This paper analyzes the transients of DAB commutation. Although commutation has been previously analyzed for DAB with the linear turn-off snubbers, in today's industries, the output capacitors of the switches are utilized as the snubberless approach. The presence of these time-variant capacitors leads to nonlinear equations. This paper applies a piecewise linear model for analyzing the commutation of the ac-link current into the switches. SiC devices are gaining acceptance in the motor drive industry. This paper compares the power loss and efficiency between two options that can be used with SiC-based variablefrequency drives (VFDs). In the first option, the SiC VFD is equipped with an output sine-wave filter with carrier frequency at 50 kHz. A $dv/dt$ filter is used for the second option with the carrier frequency reduced to 8 kHz. Both options are compared with a standard Si insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) VFD operating at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz with no output filter. The focus of this paper is to present different filtering options for SiC VFDs. The $dv/dt$ filter is designed to meet the same specification as that of the standard Si IGBT VFD with no output filter, so as to present a fair comparison between a standard Si IGBT VFD and the next-generation SiC VFD. Results using a 460-V 11-kW system show that the SiC VFD with an output sine-wave filter has a lower efficiency compared with SiC VFD with a $dv/dt$ filter. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is a promising technology for ozone generation. In this paper, each electrode consists of tungsten rod and quartz glass. To improve the discharging efficiency, the air of the used quartz tube was evacuated. Moreover, to evaluate the performance of ozone formation, the electrical characteristics of volume DBD (VDBD) (two electrodes) and coupled VDBD (three electrodes and seven electrodes) are investigated. Under the condition of the same electric field using the COMSOL Software, the density of the current pulses is shifted to the right in the current waveforms. The results of ozone production show that a dynamic balance between ozone formation and ozone decomposes is complex at high frequency and high flow rate. This paper proposes a variable off-time control method for a single-phase microinverter operating in the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) for efficiency improvement. First, the fixed off-time control method is analyzed. The concept is to fix the off-time of the active switch throughout a line cycle for all output powers and scale the on-time of the active switch to shape a sinusoidal output current. Then, based on the fixed off-time control method, a variable off-time control method is proposed to modulate the preset fixed off-time in order to decrease the switching frequency during ac line zero-crossings and light load conditions. Compared with existed fixed-frequency DCM control or boundary conduction mode control, the variable off-time control is more flexible to optimize the efficiency under different load conditions as the switching frequency range can be automatically adjusted according to the output power. The switching frequency is high at heavy loads to limit the maximum peak current and is low at light loads to increase the light load efficiency. In addition, a predictive on-time method is adopted to simplify inverter control and reduce hardware costs. The parameter design principle is detailed in this paper. This paper presents a study of the design, fabrication, and electromagnetic (EM) characterization of 3-D printed conical inductors for broadband radio frequency applications. A process flow for the design and fabrication of these components using stereolithographic 3-D printing in combination with electroless copper plating is proposed. A whole set of the samples corresponding to different geometrical parameters has been designed and fabricated using the proposed process flow. These parameters include the cone angle, the number of turns of the spiral, the metal width, and metal pitch. Experimental measurements and EM simulations have been carried out to determine the performance of conical inductors in terms of the equivalent inductance, the quality factor, and the frequency of the first resonance. This paper presents a procedure for evaluating self-capacitances and parasitic capacitors between physically adjacent turns in multiconductor systems—with a special focus on single-layer air-core inductors. To this end, the paper proposes the use of standard cells, which correspond to a minimal and basic turn, layer, or macrolevel arrangement of a winding in reference to its patterns of stored electrostatic energy. A standard cell embraces mathematical rules derived by means of a curve fitting approach through a set of finite element analysis (FEA) simulations. Besides, it is applied in a matching routine wherein self- and stray capacitances are evaluated according to the relative position of each turn, layer, or macrolevel arrangement along the length of the winding. The steady state with duty cycle time 0.3–0.5 of Chinese fusion engineering testing reactor (CFETR) is a big challenge. To realize this goal, the divertor should be reliable. At the preconceptual phase of CFETR design, reliability engineering is engaged to determine how reliable of divertor is and how much level of reliability of divertor should be. The plasma facing components (PFCs), base plate, and support frame have been considered during the reliability analysis for the divertor modules. The relation of the reliability between a divertor system and its modules has been analyzed. The relations between steady-state operation with duty cycle time 0.3–0.5 and the reliability of divertor is studied in this paper. How the reliability of components, modules, and divertor system affects the duty cycle time of CFETR is also analyzed. To meet the requirement of duty cycle time, the lowest reliability level of divertor system is 0.3679 and its mean time to fail is only 1 year. The divertor system with such low reliability requires that each module should have a relative high reliability of 0.9794, and then, the PFCs should have higher reliability of 0.9930. The new tokamak generation will be characterized by the necessity of full remote maintenance for most of the critical components. Because no human intervention can be envisaged, the remote systems will have to prove high reliability and rescue capabilities. The availability of the fusion facility will have to be maximized, as a consequence, the efficiency of the maintenance equipment will become a key factor. To fulfill these constraints, the remote maintenance principles will need to be simplified as much as possible and be taken into account at the early stages of the tokamak design. This is an iterative process between Tokamak and Maintenance designs in order to reach the best possible tradeoff. Such an exercise of this iterative work was done on the China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) preliminary design. Main targets were established in the view of optimization of the remote maintenance, then an assessment of the first maintenance scenario, envisaged for the in-vessel components, was done and alternative solutions were proposed. This process was repeated during meetings with the tokamak subsystem owners. This paper will present the results of a first phase of optimization that can represent the current state of the remote maintenance design for CFETR. The work has provided guidelines for main tokamak subsystems such as the magnet configuration, the blanket and divertor modularity, the neutron shielding and cryostat arrangement, and the transfer and hot cell configuration. It also produced some innovative solutions for the overall maintenance scheme like the implementation of a hot cell at the top of the tokamak hall avoiding cask transfers. The international thermonuclear experimental reactor poloidal field converter unit is comprised of four converter bridges, dc reactors, dc switches, etc., and most are nonstandard. To evaluate the performance of these equipments, a high-power dc test platform has been built to carry out the steady-state current test and impulse current test. The latter is significant to verify the fault suppression capability of products. The dc test platform can output the rated 400-kA impulse current. The principle design and structure of the dc test platform is introduced in this paper. The transient large current in impulse current test could cause huge impact reactive power and grid voltage sag. The impact is analyzed by theoretical calculation and simulation. A static var compensator system is added to suppress the transient effects of the reactive power. A predictive reactive power control strategy is proposed to improve the dynamic response. The comparisons with the traditional control demonstrate that the proposed control is effective in compensating impact reactive power and it also performs well on inhibiting the grid voltage sag. The halogen volatile organic compound (VOC) is a common industrial pollutant, mainly including trichloroethylene, dichloromethane, trichloroacetic acid, chloro-fluoro-carbons, carbon tetrachloride, trihalomethans, chlorodifuoromethanes, hydrofluorocarbons, and some other fluor alkaline, ether, and amine. The halogen VOCs have reproductive toxicity, immunotoxicity, and neurotoxicity. The traditional methods for treating them include masking method, dilution method, chemical oxidation method, incineration method, UV oxidation method, photocatalytic oxidation method, absorption method, and biological method. In this paper, advantages and disadvantages of traditional methods have been studied and analyzed. A new plasma technology has been put forward, which has the advantage of the rapid reaction to ambient temperature, wide applications, system compactness, simplicity of operation and short residual time, and the plasma technology is especially appropriate for the decomposition of VOCs. At present, as for the control of VOCs, the plasma technology has drawn much attention as an energy-saving technology. In this paper, the equipment for the decomposition of halogen VOCs has been analyzed, including the plasma rectors, power characteristics, operation conditions, and the decomposition mechanisms of C2HCl3, CH2Cl2, C2H3Cl3, CCl4, CHCl3, CF4, C2F6, and SF6 have been investigated and concluded. A noise match network for the LC-ladder input network of a broadband inductively source-degenerated common-source (CS) field effect transistor (FET) low-noise amplifier (LNA) is established through noise transformation matrix to derive the noise parameters of a broadband LNA. Analytical formulas for the noise factors of a CS FET LNA with a three-section LC-ladder input network are thus obtained based on the design algorithm of optimal noise and input match developed in this paper. Two 3.7–10.5 GHz two-stage LNAs of the same topology are demonstrated using 0.15- \mu \textm pHEMT technology to validate the design methodology. One LNA has all the fully integrated inductors and the other uses two on-chip inductors replaced by two high-Q bondwire inductors for better noise performance. The measurement results show 11-dB power gain with 2.1-dB noise figure for the LNA with the fully integrated inductors and 11-dB power gain with 1.6-dB noise figure for the LNA with two bondwire inductors, respectively. Quasi-lumped-element low-pass filter (LPF) and high-pass filter (HPF) based on substrate-integrated suspended line (SISL) technology are presented in this paper. Double interdigital capacitor, which has advantages of high capacitance density and high quality factor, is analyzed and designed to minimize the filter size. Based on the theoretical analysis, quasi-lumped-element SISL LPF and HPF prototypes are designed. The experimental results show that the SISL LPF achieves ultra-wide stopband up to 24 \textfc ( \textfc is the cut-off frequency) with compact size of 0.180~\lambda g \times 0.082~\lambda g ( \lambda g is the guide wavelength at \textfc) . The SISL HPF features the low insertion loss of only 0.3 dB, while the size is only 0.108~\lambda g \times 0.085~\lambda g . Moreover, the methods of substrate excavation and packaging optimization are proposed to further enhance the performance of SISL LPF and SISL HPF. This paper presents the design consideration on a converged Rx surface acoustic wave (SAW) duplexer module for integrated RF front end. Two different matching-circuit and notch-circuit configurations were examined with importance placed on electrical characteristics (insertion loss and isolation of duplexer) and simplification of module, respectively. From circuit simulations and examinations, we verified that a simplified design was best in terms of both characteristics and space in the case of a finite inductor's Q. We also fabricate a quad-band converged Rx module (Band I + II, V + VIII) using an SAW duplexer and verified that its electrical characteristics agree well with our simulation results. This paper presents a comparative study on different microfabricated inductors (microtransformers), which are suitable for high-frequency power application. The main topic of this study is comparing and analyzing the effect of some factors such as material type, number of turns, and coil form on microinductor performance considering a fixed chip size, fixed magnetic core size, and core form. Two different microtransformer designs with different magnetic core materials are considered in this work. The core materials used in this work are NiFe45/55 and CoFe45/55. Also, two types of device packages are developed, namely, Quad Flat No-Lead and FR4 embedded packages. For device testing, different high-frequency switching regulators available on the market are used. This study shows the influence of different parameters on the performance of a certain high-frequency application. This paper presents integrated inductors with Co-Zr-Ta-B (CZTB) thin films on flexible organic substrates for MHz–GHz applications. This paper demonstrated the fabrication and characterization of magnetic thin-film inductors on flexible organic substrates, such as polyimide and Ajinomoto build-up film thin films. These films have thicknesses of only tens of micrometer and thus are very flexible compared to the same inductor structures fabricated on rigid substrates, such as quartz. The magnetic films on flexible substrates were observed to maintain similar magnetic properties compared with those on Si substrate, but with greater coercivity likely due to the increased roughness of the substrate surface. The fabricated thin-film inductors on organic substrates with inductance $L$ , measured by RF characteristics, have shown significantly increased inductance compared to air-core inductors (without magnetic core materials). This paper also demonstrated a high frequency response, clearly over GHz, consistent with the CZTB type of materials. The frequency response, as well as inductance and Q values, remains similar even after many iterations of bending to a large degree, indicating the robustness of the inductor on flexible organic substrates, as well as that of the magnetic thin films. Wireless power transfer (WPT) systems working at several megahertz (MHz) are widely considered as a promising solution for a mid-range transfer of a medium amount of power. The soft-switching-based Class E power amplifier (PA) and rectifier are known to be suitable for high-frequency applications, which may potentially improve the performance of the MHz WPT systems. Meanwhile, the efficiency and output power of the Class E PA are sensitive to its loading condition, particularly when there is variation in the relative position of the coupling coils, namely a changed mutual inductance between the coils. Thus the purpose of this paper is to propose and discuss circuit and design improvements that maintain a high efficiency and output power of the MHz WPT systems over a wide range of mutual inductance, when the Class E PA and the Class E rectifier are employed. Besides, the suppression of the harmonic contents, i.e., the electromagnetic interference problem, is also considered in the circuit design. Both the simulation and experimental results show that the newly added and optimally designed $\pi $ matching network obviously improves the drops of the efficiency and output power of the Class E PA and the overall WPT system when the mutual inductance varies. The reduction of the total harmonic distortion in the input voltage of the coupling coils is also significant, from the original 52.9% to 9.6%. This paper provides a theoretical and experimental discussion on ac-inductors design for a modular multilevel triple-star bridge-cells (TSBC) converter, or shortly a TSBC converter. This converter requires multiple ac inductors for controlling nine cluster currents. This paper proposes three three-legged, six-winding, “interzigzag” inductors for the TSBC converter. Since each leg of the individual inductor has two windings, the three inductors have 18 windings in total. The wire leads are zigzagged among the three inductors. This unique structure of the “interzigzag” windings leads to the following feature: Both three-phase supply and motor currents produce no magnetic flux in each of the nine legs. This feature makes each inductor smaller in size and lighter in weight. A specially-designed downscaled motor-drive system rated at 400 V and 15 kW is constructed and tested to confirm the validity of a design of the proposed inductors, as well as to verify transient motor-drive performance during four-quadrant operation. In this paper, novel neutral reactor structures are proposed to mitigate the secondary arc current (SAC) in non-conventional Multi-circuit Multi-voltage Transmission lines (MCMVTLs). The parameters of the reactors in the structure are optimized using the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). The optimization algorithm, coded in Python, regulates the multiple runs of an Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) simulation program to minimize the secondary arc current. The optimization trials are run in parallel on a 64 core computer to minimize the solution time. A detailed arc model was tested on the EMT program (PSCAD). Using this model and optimized parameters in the proposed neutral reactor schemes, the SAC is indeed extinguished in acceptable times. The SAC and TRV for neutral reactors with optimized parameters are up-to 68 and 77%, respectively, lower than the ones with parameters calculated by the conventional approach which ignores inter-circuit coupling. Meanwhile, the extinction times are up-to 46% faster. As a result, single-phase auto-reclosing in MCMVTLs is viable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hybrid energy systems with small modular reactors (SMRs)—a fast-emerging nuclear power plant technology—and renewables hold significant promise for the development of clean energy systems. This paper proposes a simulation model of SMR-based hybrid energy system for electricity and district heating (DH) with a detailed dynamic model of the reactor and a quasi-static model of the DH system in Siemens PTI PSS/E and PSS/Sincal. A multi-timescale approach, separating the load following and frequency regulation operation, is proposed to assess the flexible operation in the presence of highly intermittent renewable energy sources (RESs). A portion of a modified IEEE 30-bus system network is used as a test system for an isolated community to simulate the proposed hybrid energy system, and comparative results demonstrate the potential benefits of the DH system, thermal energy storage, and electrical energy storage to the SMR’s flexible operation. In High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) grids, system parameter and/or topology changes following HVDC grid protection actions affect system dynamics and in combination with the existence of line inductors in series with HVDC circuit breakers (DCCB), pose a challenge to designing converter controls that satisfy desired performance and stability requirements. To date, several methods have been proposed for evaluating the influence of the line inductors on system stability; however, tuning of the MMC controls considering system parameter and/or topology changes following HVDC grid protection actions haven’t been studied in detail. This paper presents a systematic tuning procedure for a robust operation of MMCs in any HVDC grid configuration. The proposed method analyzes the impact of variations in HVDC grid system parameters and control bandwidths (BWs) using small-signal based stability analysis and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD)-based performance analysis methods. In addition, it considers the impact of line outages associated with HVDC grid protection actions in order to select optimal control gains that fulfill performance and stability requirements of the HVDC grid for given HVDC Circuit Breakers (DCCBs) line inductor values.
