Background: In the new era of publication, scientific misconduct has become a focus of concern including extreme variability of plagiarism, falsification, fabrication, authorship issues, peer review manipulation, etc. Along with, overarching theme of "retraction" and "predatory journals" have emphasized the importance of studying related infrastructures. Methods: Information used in this review was provided through accessing various databases as Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Nature Index, Publication Ethics and Retraction Watch. Original researches, expert opinions, comments, letters, editorials, books mostly published between 2010 and 2020 were gathered and categorized into three sections of "Common types of misconduct"," Reasons behind scientific misconduct" and "Consequences". Within each part, remarkable examples from the past 10 years cited in Retraction Watch are indicated. At last, possible solution on combating misconduct are suggested. Results: The number of publications are on the dramatic rise fostering a competition under which scholars are pushed to publish more. Consequently, due to several reasons including poor linguistic and illustration skills, not adequate evaluation, limited experience, etc. researchers might tend toward misbehavior endangering the health facts and ultimately, eroding country, journal/publisher, and perpetrator's creditability. The reported incident seems to be enhanced by the emergence of predatory with publishing about 8 times more papers in 2014 than which is in 2010. So that today, 65.3% of paper retraction is solely attributing to misconduct, with plagiarism at the forefront. As well, authorship issues and peer-review manipulation are found to have significant contribution besides further types of misconduct in this duration. Conclusion: Given the expansion of the academic competitive environment and with the increase in research misconduct, the role of any regulatory sector, including universities, journals/publishers, government, etc. in preventing this phenomenon must be fully focused and fundamental alternation should be implemented in this regard. The article presents several instructions on how authors can submit their research articles on ecology to the "Functional Ecology" periodical in Great Britain in 2006. It includes information on the outline of the periodical's editorial policy, as well as the publication's policies pertaining to researchers having proper regard for animal welfare and conservation considerations. Instructions are also included regarding the submission, revision and pre-publication of manuscripts. Contact information for the magazine is also cited.

Purpose: Nursing science has developed rapidly as an academic discipline and also as a scientific institution internationally in the past thirty years. Publishing policies in different disciplines can be used in analyzing their development and scientific culture. The purpose of this paper is to describe publication profile of Finnish nursing research and the contents and methods used. Methods: The data consisted of 433 articles published in Journal of Nursing Science (in Finnish Hoitotiede) during years 1989-2008. The journal is the first national scientific journal founded for nurse researchers in 1989. The data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: The publishing has developed from single author papers to group work. A total of 24 % of the papers were single authored. Most of the papers were published in research groups within the discipline (94 %). Only 24 papers included collaboration with other disciplines such as medicine, statistics and education. Half of the papers concentrated on nursing practice and rest mainly on methodological issues or education. Only a few papers focused on health promotion, leadership issues or health policy. The nature of the research studies was descriptive, focus more on qualitative studies and a few intervention studies were published. Data were mostly collected by surveys or interviews and physiological methods were nearly non-existent. Conclusions: The focus in Finnish studies has been on patients but on minor scale. The future challenge is to produce knowledge thru research programmes to have impact on clinical practice and health policy. Further studies are needed in evaluation of the state of nursing research in Finland and the contents as well as outcomes of the field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose - The objective of this paper is to explore the dominating approaches that appear in top marketing journals. Design/methodology/approach - This research is restricted to the exploration of one top journal in marketing. The journal title is kept anonymous as the topic goes beyond the targeted journal and aspires to be of interest to the marketing discipline and its research community. A triangular approach was used, which was divided into two parts. Findings - Part one - the exploration of the editorial descriptions of selected top marketing journals shows that they tend to describe their published articles according to some key features. Part two - the content analysis of 151 articles generated an extremely skewed outcome. It appears to be almost a pre-requisite to have applied quantitative approaches in order to make it successfully through the blind review process and get published in the targeted journal. Research limitations/implications - This research is limited to explore one of the top marketing journals. The journal is kept anonymous as the idea is not to question or hang out a specific journal, but rather to stimulate the debate of current approaches published in the top marketing journals. Practical implications - The exploration of the top marketing journal shows a stereotype and myopic view of what is classified as ‘high quality’ or ‘appropriate’ research approaches. The editors and the editorial boards should let paradigmatic and dogmatic research myopia stand back in favour of broadminded and challenging research efforts. They should strive to avoid traditionalism and blinkers. Originality/value - An increased trust and acceptability of other approaches than quantitative ones in top marketing journals would be desirable. A humble request would be to give other approaches a fair chance to get into the arena of top marketing journals. The paper contends that there may be a fatal ‘paradoxnoia’ of top journal(s) in marketing - a ‘paradoxnoia’ of approaches that may harm and undermine the respectability of the marketing discipline and its research community. The common history and development of Nordic family medicine is important and interesting. This paper looks back on the aspects and factors influencing academic family medicine in the Nordic countries and especially the central position of the Nordic Congresses and the Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care. The importance of pioneers and bringing people together is emphasized. Introduction: In terms of academic positions and activities, women seem to be disadvantaged in various aspects all over the world. Our study aims to investigate the representation of male and female genders in academic psychiatry journals in Turkey. Method: We included the publications in the academic psychiatry journals indexed in The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, Turkish Academic Network and Information Center, which were published between 2011 and 2020.12 journals were grouped as SCI-E/ SSCI (n=4), ESCI (n=4), and other international indexes (n=4). A total of 5179 articles were reviewed. Results: The ratios of female authors per article, female first author, female correspondence author, and female last author were found to be lower in the SCI-E/SSCI and ESCI groups compared to the other international index groups (p<0.05). In all article types, the rate of women as the last author was lower than the rate of women as the first author (p<0.05). Conclusion: The paucity of the female authors in the last authorship position and the editorial articles can be interpreted as the glass ceiling effect. To ensure gender equality in academic publications, universities and the editorial boards of journals should fight against gender-based bias and discrimination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reports that "The History of Our Own Times," was a fortnightly magazine published by the London bookseller Charles Corbett early in 1741. It was founded and abandoned all within two months, from 15 January to 5 March, making a run of only four issues. Still, the History of our own Times was barely noticed while it lived and has continued unknown since. Hardly any copies of it exist, probably because there never were very many in the first place. The magazine was designed and partly written by Henry Fielding, as the contents plainly show, and it must be added to the list of four periodical papers with which he has always been connected.

The article presents statistics about the periodical in 2003 and 2004. The periodical received 703 articles for intended publication in 2003, and 798 articles in 2004. According to the author, the periodical has to reject around four out of every five articles submitted that are not commissioned. The author hopes that contributors appreciate the difficulties the periodical has in turning down many competent papers that in the past would have had no difficulty in finding space in the journal. In 2004, the most cited was that by Louise Arseneault and colleagues, with 13 citations. In 2003, the most cited paper was by Lakshmi Yatham and colleagues, with 29 citations.

Background: A bibliometric analysis was completed of the peer-reviewed literature from 1991 to 2015 written by British occupational therapy authors that was indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIExpanded) or Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) databases. Methods: "Occupational therapy" and "occupational therapist" were used as keywords to search journal articles' publication title, abstract, author details, keywords, and KeyWords Plus. One of the authors had to be identified as a qualified occupational therapist with a British affiliation. Results: From 1991 to 2015, 680 journal articles were published by British occupational therapy authors. The top three journals in which authors published were the British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Clinical Rehabilitation, and Disability and Rehabilitation. The five institutions that generated the largest number of occupational therapy articles were the University of Nottingham, Brunel University London, University of Southampton, Queen Margaret University, and the University of East Anglia. British authors often collaborated in the writing of manuscripts with other authors from Australia, the United States, Canada, and Sweden. Conclusion: The quantity of occupational therapy peer-reviewed literature written by British authors has increased over the last 2 decades. British authors have made and continue to make noteworthy contributions to the profession's body of refereed knowledge at the national and international levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article deals with the duplicate publications and editorial decisions experienced by the "American Journal of Public Health." This journal has experienced all aspects of the spectrum. Its lower end is probably the most common and, to editors, the most trouble-some. It can take the form of a different analysis of the same data or the addition of cases or years of follow-up to published data. Sometimes the publication of another article can be justified, especially if the conclusions are changed by the addition.
