Several Palaeozoic ophiolitic mélanges distributed in the West Junggar, Xinjiang, are remnants of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean evolution. They are important keys for studying the component, tectonic evolution, and crust–mantle interaction of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). This paper presents petrology, zircon U‐Pb chronology, geochemistry, and Hf isotope data of mafic rocks from the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange, West Junggar. The zircon U‐Pb chronology data of gabbro in the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange can be divided into two groups. The first group magmatic zircons yield a weighted mean age of 389.7 ± 7.7 Ma. It suggests that gabbros of the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange were formed during the period of Early‐middle Devonian, which represents the main period that the Dalabute back‐arc ocean basin expanded. The second group inherited zircons with ages ranging from 910 to 975 Ma were interpreted as Neoproterozoic materials of basement entered its magmatic source. Geochemical characteristics show that the mafic rocks from the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange can be subdivided into alkaline and tholeiite series. Whole‐rock and Hf isotopic data indicate that alkaline basalts have the signatures of typical OIB and formed in the oceanic island or seamount settings related to mantle plume, which were most likely derived from an enriched mantle source. Besides, tholeiitic rocks exhibit the features of MORB and generated in an immature back‐arc basin in the supra‐subduction zone. Their magmas originated from a depleted mantle that had been metasomatized by subduction‐related fluids and contaminated by materials with crustal nature. Therefore, Dalabute ophiolites are supposed to be generated from a back‐arc oceanic basin, which is relate to intra‐subduction and with mantle plumes developed within it. These results jointly provide convincing evidence for the evolution and property of the Dalabute ophiolite in the West Junggar and further supply reference and base for reconstruct the evolutionary history of the CAOB. The Late Palaeozoic Solonker‐Xar Moron‐Changchun‐Yanji Suture (SXCYS) is considered to mark the location of the final closure of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean, which separated the North China Craton to the south and the amalgamated blocks to the north in Northeast China. There has always been controversy about its eastern extension in Northeast China and the final closure time of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. To explore this issue, we collected gabbro and quartz‐diorite samples in the Hunchun area for the genesis of mafic magma and age dating, and five groups of Permian to Triassic sandstones belonging to both sides of the potential suture locations in the middle and east Jilin Province for the provenance analysis to discuss the final closure time of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean and the possible positions of the eastward termination of the SXCYS. The gabbro reveals a Middle Permian concordia average age of 266.9 ± 5.2 Ma, and the quartz diorite reveals a Late Permian Concordia average age of 258.8 ± 4.8 Ma. Lithological and geochemical analysis reveal the two rock samples belong to low‐K arc tholeiites from the oceanic island and calk‐alkaline volcanics from the active continental margin, respectively, which implies that during the middle to late Permian, the SW margin of the Jiamusi–Khanka Block (JB) continuously experienced the subduction process from the Paleo‐Asian Ocean Plate. The final closure time of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean should be later than the Late Permian. Meanwhile, four groups of sandstone from the east Jilin reveal typically Jiamusi–Mongolia Block (JMB) provenance features, with age components of ~500 Ma, ~0.9–1.5 Ga implying that the Wangqing, Hunchun, Kaishantun area belongs to the northern part of the SXCYS from late Early Permian to Middle Triassic, with youngest age components of 288.2 ± 2.8, 275.5 ± 1.8, 250 ± 1.7, and 244.9 ± 1.7 Ma, respectively. The late Early Permian sandstone from the middle Jilin reveals the youngest age component of 273.8 ± 3.4 Ma and the age component of 487 ± 3 Ma also revealing JMB feature. Comparing to previous studies, we propose that the Paleo‐Asian Ocean finally closed during Middle to Late Triassic. A possible ENE fault separates the eastern extension of SXCYS into two parts, which means the possible position of the eastward extension of the SXCYS should go along the Wangqing‐Kaishantun with NNW direction in the west, Hunchun‐Laoheishan with NW direction in the east. The origin of giant rare earth element (REE)‐rich phosphorus deposits related to ultramafic rocks is unclear. To characterize the genetic linkage between ultramafic rocks and P–REE mineralization, we investigated the whole‐rock geochemistry, geochronology and Hf isotopic compositions, along with previously published data of barren and ore‐bearing clinopyroxenites from the giant Shangzhuang REE‐rich apatite deposit (containing about 51.1 million tonnes of P2O5 and 157,400 tonnes of REEs) in the Lajishan suture, Western China. The P–REE ores and barren biotite clinopyroxenites are composed predominantly of clinopyroxene and biotite, with high levels of apatite, amphibole, allanite, sulfide and oxide minerals in the ore‐bearing samples. Zircon and allanite U–Pb ages for the barren and ore‐bearing clinopyroxenites indicate they were formed between 467 and 465 Ma. The barren and ore‐bearing samples are characterized by high CaO and low SiO2 contents, as well as similar Hf isotope ratios (εHf[t]: +3.4 to +7.7), indicating that they represent an ultramafic magma system and have been derived from a similar source. They are enriched in light REEs and depleted in Nb–Ta–Zr–Hf–Ti, similar to arc‐related lavas found worldwide. The weakly evolved barren samples have high Ba/La, Rb/Y and Dy/Yb values, and their ages are coeval with calc‐alkaline granitic plutons in the belt, which postdate the formation of the Lajishan ophiolite by ~30 myr. This suggests that the primary magma originated from garnet peridotite mantle modified by subducted Proto‐Tethys oceanic crust‐derived fluids in an arc setting. The presence of apatite intergrowth with cumulus clinopyroxene without alteration features indicates that the deposit has a magmatic origin. The ore‐bearing clinopyroxenite contains higher contents of P, REEs, and high‐field‐strength elements than the barren clinopyroxenite, which could be attributed to the in situ accumulation of apatite and allanite in the residual magma. Thus, the formation of the P‐dominated orebodies results from phosphate saturation due to the extensive fractionation crystallization of clinopyroxene and biotite during magmatic evolution. REEs were primarily enriched in the late‐stage melt, which was compatible with apatite and allanite. The South China Craton formed after collision between the Yangtze and Cathaysia Blocks. The suture zone between these two blocks is the crux of understanding the geological evolution of South China. Due to the relative paucity of high-resolution subsurface data, the location of the suture zone in the southwestern region remains uncertain. To find the suture zone, we created a high-resolution model of the crust and upper mantle structure using 27 months of continuous waveform data acquired from 457 stations in South China. The model uses extracted phase velocity dispersion curves of Rayleigh waves at 4–40 s from ambient noise cross-correlation functions, to perform a direct inversion for an azimuthal anisotropic V SV model. In the crust a prominent belt of strong azimuthal anisotropy exists between the Yangtze and Cathaysia Blocks. The fast polarization axes in this belt correspond to the NE-trending orogen between the two blocks. In the deeper crust of the Cathaysia Block we image multiple areas of diffuse low-velocity anomalies. As defined by the margins of the strongly anisotropic belt, the Yangtze–Cathaysia suture zone is delineated by lines that traverse: Shaoxing–Jiangshan–Pingxiang–Longsheng–Hechi and Shitai–Jiujiang–Yueyang–Dayong–Jishou. Further analysis of the seismic data links deep low velocities with widespread Late Mesozoic magmatism in the Cathaysia Block. The western segment of the suture zone between the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks, which is the most important tectonic boundary related to the formation and rifting of south China, is enigmatic and not fully understood due to the sporadic exposure of Precambrian strata and ophiolites. Three‐dimensional electrical resistivity models derived from inversion of magnetotelluric data identified a lithospheric‐scale conductive zone extending northeastwards beneath the Youjiang basin, which was interpreted as the western segment of the suture zone. The high conductivity and coincident high magnetic anomalies closely match the location of Carlin‐type gold deposits, which can be explained by fluids and gold‐bearing sulfide minerals in a fossil suture zone. Inconsistent with the southeast‐dip resolved at the eastern segment of the suture zone (the Jiangshan‐Shaoxing fault) in the earlier study, the slightly north‐dipping geometry at the western suture zone implies the reactivation by northward subduction and closure of the Paleo‐Tethys Ocean. Plain Language Summary: Suture zones are tectonic scars that mark the subduction, collision, and amalgamation of different tectonic units. Imaging suture zones is critical because they are first‐order tectonic boundaries and can play a guiding role in continental rifting and breakup. The suture zone between the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks is the most important tectonic boundary in south China. While the eastern segment of this suture zone is agreed to be located along the Jiangshan‐Shaoxing fault, the western segment of this suture zone is under debate. This study used magnetotelluric method to image the deep earth structure beneath the western boundary of the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks. We identified a high‐conductivity zone from the subsurface to a depth of 80 km and interpreted this zone as being caused by fluids and gold‐bearing sulfide minerals in a fossil suture zone. The conductivity pattern observed in this suture zone differs from that in the earlier study about the eastern segment of the suture zone. This implies that the western suture zone has been modified after the initial collision of the two continents, perhaps by northward subduction and closure of the Paleo‐Tethys Ocean. In a new study, Wu, Wang, Zhou, Zhao, Haproff, et al. (2022, https://doi.org/10.1029/2022GC010662) present a comprehensive study of the North Margin Orogen of the North China Craton (NCC), showing that older accreted rocks in this belt preserve a record of active margin magmatism from 2.2 to 2.0 Ga, followed by collisional tectonics, marked by mélange and mylonitic shear zones, then granulite facies metamorphism at 1.9–1.8 Ga, marking the final collision of the NCC with the Columbia Supercontinent. The multidisciplinary studies presented in this work support earlier suggestions that the North China Craton amalgamated during accretionary orogenesis in the Neoarchean to earlier Paleoproterozoic, and that the late widespread 1.85 Ga high‐grade metamorphism is craton‐wide in scale, and not confined to a narrow orogen in the center of the craton. This new understanding creates new possibilities for refining reconstructions of one of Earth's earliest, best documented supercontinents, showing a globally linked plate network at 1.85 Ga, and suggests drastic new correlations and models for mineral resource exploration. The eastern Paleo-Tethyan Jinshajiang–Ailaoshan–Song Ma orogenic belt in the Southeast Tibetan Plateau represents the tectonic boundary between the Indochina and South China blocks. Regional Cenozoic lithospheric strike-slip movements caused by the India–Asia collision have modified many of the pristine geological records associated with the Indosinian orogeny. The lack of reliable petrological evidences, particularly of high-pressure (HP) metamorphism, has hindered the tracing of the evolutionary history of the Paleo-Tethyan orogenic belt. We report the mineralogy, geochemistry, geochronology and thermodynamic modelling of eclogite lenses/blocks and their host garnet–phengite schists from the Song Ma Suture Zone of Northwest Vietnam and reveal their protolith origins and metamorphic evolution. The eclogites are geochemically similar to mid-ocean ridge basalt, showing weak depletions in high field-strength elements, positive to slightly negative whole-rock ɛNd(t) ratios (−1.69 to +5.15) and slightly high 87Sr/86Sr(t) ratios (0.70466–0.70834). The igneous protolith of the eclogites formed in the late Silurian (425.4 ± 3.6 Ma; igneous zircon dating, 638–459 Ma TDM dating), which makes them the oldest known mid-ocean ridge mafic rocks in an ancient Paleo-Tethyan Ocean. Various eclogites preserve similar peak mineral assemblages (garnet + omphacite + phengite + rutile + quartz ± epidote/clinozoisite ± kyanite ± winchite) under indistinguishable peak conditions. Their prograde P–T trajectories show a uniform pattern of progressive heating and weak compression along a geothermal gradient of 8°C–10°C/km, indicating a warm subduction setting at a low angle that contrasts with the cold oceanic subduction recorded in the adjacent Paleo-Tethyan suture zones. Combined with detrital U–Pb ages from previous studies, our geochronological data indicate that the host schists originated from continental crust within the South China Block and underwent a pervasive Triassic HP metamorphism related to the Indosinian orogeny. The eclogites and host schists yielded HP metamorphic ages of 239–234 Ma and retrogressive amphibolite-facies metamorphic ages of 231–229 Ma, suggesting rapid cooling (14.0°C–21.6°C/Myr) and exhumation (6.4 km/Myr) from the mantle to the crust. The Song Ma eclogites and their host schists formed when the final ocean closure transitioned to the initial Indochina–South China collision. The Song Ma eclogites and their host schists provide essential information on the opening and closure of the eastern Paleo-Tethys and the subsequent amalgamation of Southeast Asian continental fragments. The Ailaoshan orogenic belt, located in the SE margin of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, is an important Paleo-Tethys suture zone in the eastern margin of the Sanjiang Tethys tectonic domain. The areas of Mojiang and Zhenyuan, located in the middle part of the Ailaoshan orogenic belt, are the key parts of the Ailaoshan Paleo-Tethys Ocean closure and collision orogeny. The rhyolites outcropped in the Mojiang area, and the granite porphyries outcropped in Zhenyuan area, are systematically studied for petrology, isotope geochemistry and geochronology. The Zircon U-Pb geochronology of rhyolites and granite porphyries give weighted average ages of 253.4 ± 4.2 Ma and 253.3 ± 2.0 Ma, respectively, both of which were formed in the late Permian period. The rhyolites belong to potassic calc-alkaline to subalkaline series. The patterns of the rare earth elements (REE) show a right-inclined seagull-type distribution, and the trace elements plot is right-inclined. The granite porphyries are high potassic calc-alkaline to subalkaline. The REE patterns show a right-inclined distribution, and the trace elements plot is right-inclined, which is consistent with the typical patterns observed in the crust. The peraluminous, highly differentiated and high ASI values suggest that rhyolites and granite porphyries are S-type granites. The zircon εHf(t) of the rhyolites range from −7.22 to −0.72, and two-stage Hf zircon model ages are (TDMC) 1771–2352 Ma, indicating that the magma source area is mainly crust-derived. The zircon εHf(t) of the granite porphyries range from −0.97 to 4.08, and two-stage Hf zircon model ages are (TDMC) 1336–1795 Ma, indicating that the magma is derived from a depleted mantle source and the partial melting of ancient crustal materials. The rhyolites and granite porphyries were possibly formed in the syn-collisional tectonic setting during the late Permian, and their ages limited the time of the final closure of the Ailaoshan Ocean and the initiation of collisional orogeny. Zircon Hf-isotopic mapping can be regarded as a useful tool for evaluating the coupling relationship between lithospheric structure and metallic mineralization. Hence, this method shows important significance for mineral prediction. To explore this potential, the published granite zircon Hf isotope data from the Sanjiang Tethyan Orogen were systematically compiled. This study uses the Kriging weighted interpolation in the Mapgis software system to contour Hf isotopes, revealing a relation between the crustal structure and metallogenesis. The mapping results suggest that the Changning–Menglian suture zone is the boundary between ancient and juvenile crust, viz., the western terranes have ancient crust attributes, whereas the eastern terranes exhibit the properties of new juvenile crust. In addition, this study also found that the mineralization and element types in the Sanjiang Tethyan Orogen have a coupling relationship with the crustal structure. The distribution of porphyry Cu-Mo-Au deposits is mainly controlled by the new juvenile crust, whereas the magmatic-hydrothermal Sn-W and porphyry Mo-W(-Cu) deposits are closely related to the reworked ancient crust. The results of zircon Hf isotope mapping prove that the formation and spatial distribution of deposits are related to the composition and properties of the crust. This study was conducted to define the background structure and petrogenetic significance of the Early Cretaceous magmatic rocks in the Badaguan area of northern Daxing'anling and to explore the Late Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Mongol-Okhotsk suture zone. The Early Cretaceous magmatic rock was systematically investigated using zircon U-Pb dating and geochemical and petrological analyses. The results show that the rock: mainly consists of granites and rhyolites; has an age of 125–140 Ma; has a strong MgO, Al2O3, and total alkali content; has a SiO2 content of 61.68 wt% to 77.41 wt%; and contains Rb, Th, U, and light REEs with depleted levels of of Sr, P, Ti, and heavy REEs. When combined with the Hf isotopic characteristics of the Early Cretaceous magmatic rock from the Erguna Massif, these results suggest that the magma originated from the partial melting of basal crustal materials during the Neoproterozoic–Phanerozoic period and that various mineral forms (including hornblende, plagioclase, and apatite) underwent fractional crystallization processes during the evolution of the magma. The Early Cretaceous magmatic rock from the Badaguan area recorded the extensional environment of the lithosphere after the closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean, and this hypothesis is consistent with the results of previous studies on the tectono-magmatic activities in Northeast China during the same period. Abstract: The extension of the suture zone between the Siberian and Kazakhstan continents in China has been a matter of debate because few outcrops of ophiolitic mélange have been found so far. The recently found Tuerkubantao ophiolitic mélange, which is located east of the Kekesentao Mt. in the Buerjin County of the Chinese Altay, provides an important clue for this problem. This paper presents the results of field investigation, petrology, U-Pb isotope dating of zircons and bulk-rock geochemistry of the Tuerkubantao mélange rocks. The mélange consists of fault-contacted ultramafic rocks, gabbro, diabase, basalt, flysch and granitoids. The ultramafic-mafic rocks are Mg-rich (#Mg = 4.25–6.35) and w(SiO2) spans 38.8%–46.8%. Basalt and gabbro are geochemically similar and are characterized by low w(FeOt) (10.9%), total alkali w(Na2O + K2O) = 2.58%) and w(TiO2) (1.17%) and affinity to the Mg-rich tholeiite series. The flat REE and trace-element patterns of the ultramafic-mafic rocks are indicative of their ophiolite origin, i.e., formation in a mid-oceanic ridge setting. The fragments of low-K gneissic granite formed in suprasubduction or syn-collisional setting. Zircons from gabbro and gneissic granite yielded U-Pb ages of 363 and 355 Ma, respectively, suggesting Late Devonian mid-oceanic spreading and oceanic subduction accompanied by suprasubduction magmatism. The Tuerkubantao ophiolite together with the Qiaoxiahala and Buergen ophiolites of the Kekesentao belt define an ophiolitic mélange belt extending along the Erqis fault. This belt probably belongs to the Ural-Zaisan-South Mongolian suture-shear zone formed during the subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean and subsequent collision of the Siberian and Kazakhstan continents. The middle reaches of the upstream of Jinsha River (MRUJR) is located in the eastern segment of the Jinsha River suture zone on the southwest of China. A study of the MRUJR based on tectonic geomorphology is noteworthy for providing a profound understanding of the tectonic transition between the Sichuan‐Yunnan and Qamdo blocks and active tectonics in various subbasins. Based on the global digital elevation model Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 1 (30 m resolution) data and geographic information system techniques, four geomorphic indices, the hypsometric integral, stream length‐gradient, drainage basin asymmetry, and drainage basin shape were calculated and analysed. Combined with geologic evidence from field surveys and fault slip rates estimated, the tectonic activities and mechanisms were discussed. Through the specific analytical comparisons, the variations in the geomorphic indices were unlikely affected by lithology and climate but showed changes in relevant tectonic activity. The analysis results of geomorphic index value manifested related strong activities in the northwestern and southeastern regions of MRUJR, tilt directions are mainly SW–NE and NE–SW, respectively. West Junggar is an important part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, which is the evolutionary product of the Palaeo‐Asian Ocean (PAO). In this area, sporadically distributed ophiolitic mélanges and associated Palaeozoic stratal succession provided research materials revealing the reduction and closure of the PAO. Based on the systematically reviewed Ordovician strata in the northern West Junggar, we find that the Lower Ordovician is mainly composed of ultramafic and mafic rocks of ophiolitic mélanges, the Middle Ordovician is made up of island arc volcanic rocks and pelagic sedimentary rocks from the ophiolitic mélanges, and the Upper Ordovician consists of coarse volcaniclastic turbidites. The geochemical characteristics of the Middle Ordovician radiolarian‐bearing siliceous rocks show that these deposits formed in a limited oceanic basin controlled by terrestrial sources, and that the basin‐filling succession began with the occurrence of the Upper Ordovician proximal turbidites. The above shows that the Ordovician PAO underwent an evolutionary process from oceanic basin to limited oceanic basin and to marginal sea in northern West Junggar, and constrains the age of the ocean–continent transformation to the Middle–Late Ordovician transition, with northern West Junggar entering the evolutionary stage of marginal sea in the Late Ordovician. In the deep mining areas of western China, there exist ultrathick and weak cementation strata in the overburdens above the Jurassic coal seams, and the overburden lithology is generally moderately a little weaker than the medium-hard strata. Yet, the practical measurement indicates that the surface movement rule in this area displays the specialty that is apparently inconsistent with its lithology, which increases the uncertainty of safe production in coal mines. In this study, the similar material and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the movement rule and failure pattern of the ultrathick and weak cementation overburden. In addition, the photographing scale transformation-time baseline parallax (PST-TBP) method was used to monitor the similar material model to makeup for the lacks of Xi'an Jiaotong University Digital Close-range Industrial Photogrammetry System (XJTUDP) software. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. (1) To some extent, the PST-TBP method can makeup for the deficiency of the XJTUDP software because the measurement accuracy of the PST-TBP method is 0.47 mm. (2) The height of the caving zone is approximately 66 m, and the height of the water suture zone is about 112 m, which is obviously larger than that of the medium-hard and soft overburden in eastern-central China. (3) The first breaking span of the immediate roof reaches 120 m, the cyclic fracturing length is about 60 m, and the separation occurred at 43 m and 66 m above the coal seam. (4) The failure pattern of the ultrathick and weak cementation overburden is "beam-arch shell," and the failure boundary is arch. (5) The Zhidan group sandstone and Jurassic sandstone formations have strong control effects. The Zhidan group sandstone is the main control stratum and the Jurassic sandstone formation is the secondary-control stratum. Paleomagnetic studies on the syncollisional magmatic eruptions provide a direct way to understand when and where the Paleo‐Tethys closed. We report a well‐dated paleomagnetic pole from the southern Lancangjiang volcanic belt in western Yunnan of China. Stable Characteristic Remanent Magnetizations (ChRMs) were isolated from 21 sites at high temperatures following step‐wise thermal demagnetization. The data pass fold, reversal, and conglomerate tests and are interpreted to be primary thermal remanent magnetizations. The new paleomagnetic pole (46.1°N/176.2°E, K=44.9, A95=4.8°, N=21) yields a paleolatitude of 26.0 ± 4.8°N at the reference site (23.0°N/100.4°E) in the southern Lancangjiang area. This direct paleo‐latitudinal constraint on the Paleo‐Tethys suture zone in western Yunnan indicates that the north branch of the Paleo‐Tethys Ocean closed no later than the Carnian Age of Late Triassic, and confirms a geographic linkage between the North Qiangtang and Indochina Blocks at least during the Early Permian to Late Triassic. Plain Language Summary: The Asian continent is formed by the amalgamation of continental blocks such as the Tarim, North China, South China, Indochina, and Qiangtang. However, questions remained to answer: When did the ocean between them close? How did they drift from the south hemisphere to the north? Ongoing controversies on the timing and kinematics of the Indo–Asia collision can be solved by palaeomagnetically determined palaeolatitudes of terranes bounding the Indo–Asia suture zone. We show here, based on new palaeomagnetic data from the Linzizong volcanic rocks (54–47 Ma) near the city of Lhasa, that the latitude of the southern margin of Asia was 22.8 ± 4.2°N when these rocks were deposited. This result, combined with revised palaeomagnetic results from the northernmost sedimentary units of Greater India and with apparent polar wander paths of India and Eurasia, palaeomagnetically constrain the collision to have occurred at 46 ± 8 Ma (95 per cent confidence interval). These palaeomagnetic results are consistent with tomographic anomalies at 15–25°N that are interpreted to locate the Tethyan oceanic slab that detached following collision, and with independent 56–46 Ma collision age estimates inferred from the timing of slowing down of India, high pressure metamorphism, the end of marine sedimentation and the first occurrence of suture zone and arc detritus on the Greater Indian margin. When compared with apparent polar wander paths of India and Eurasia, the ∼46 Ma onset of collision at 22.8 ± 4.2°N implies 2900 ± 600 km subsequent latitudinal convergence between India and Asia divided into 1100 ± 500 km within Asia and 1800 ± 700 km within India. The Luobusa ophiolite, Southern Tibet, lies in the Indus–Yarlung Zangbo suture zone that separates Eurasia to the north from the Indian continent to the south. The ophiolite contains a well-preserved mantle sequence consisting of harzburgite, clinopyroxene (cpx)-bearing harzburgite and dunite. The harzburgite contains abundant pods of chromitite, most of which have dunite envelopes, and the cpx-bearing harzburgites host numerous dunite dykes. Dunite also exists as a massive unit similar to those of the mantle–crust transition zones in other ophiolites. All of the dunites in the ophiolite have a similar mineralogy, comprising mainly olivine with minor orthopyroxene and chromite and traces of clinopyroxene. They also display similar chemical compositions, including U-shaped chondrite-normalized REE patterns. Mantle-normalized PGE patterns show variable negative Pt anomalies. Detailed analysis of a chromite-bearing dunite dyke, which grades into the host cpx-bearing harzburgite, indicates that LREE and Ir decrease, whereas HREE, Pd and Pt increase away from the dunite. These features are consistent with formation of the dunite dykes by interaction of MORB peridotites with boninitic melts from which the chromitites were formed. Because the transition-zone dunites are mineralogically and chemically identical to those formed by such melt–rock reaction, we infer that they are of similar origin. The Luobusa ultramafic rocks originally formed as MORB-source upper mantle, which was subsequently trapped as part of a mantle wedge above a subduction zone. Hydrous melts generated under the influence of the subducted slab at depth migrated upward and reacted with the cpx-bearing harzburgites to form the dunite dykes. The modified melts ponded in small pockets higher in the section, where they produced podiform chromitites with dunite envelopes. In the eastern Hegenshan-Heihe suture zone (HHSZ) of NE China, Cu-Au hydrothermal mineralization at the newly discovered Hongyan deposit is associated with the Shanshenfu alkali-feldspar granite (SAFG). Zircon U-Pb dating showed that the inner phase and outer phase of the SAFG were formed at 298.8 ± 1.0 Ma and 298.5 ± 1.0 Ma, respectively. Whole rock geochemistry suggests that the SAFG can be classified as an A-type granite. Halfnium isotopes and trace elements in zircon suggest that the SAFG has high Ti-in-zircon crystallization temperature (721–990 °C), high magmatic oxygen fugacity and largely positive εHf(t) (from +6.0 to +9.9). We proposed that the SAFG was derived from crustal assimilation and fractional crystallization of juvenile crust metasomatized by subducting oceanic crust. The high oxygen fugacity of the SAFG suggests the chalcophile elements (e.g., Cu, Au) remained in the magma as opposed to the magma source. An arc-related juvenile source favors enrichment of Cu and Au in the resulting magma. Combined, these magmatic characteristics suggest Cu ± Au exploration potential for magmatic-hydrothermal mineralization related to the SAFG, and similar bodies along the HHSZ. The results obtained combined with regional geological background suggest that the Permian A-type granites and related mineralization along the HHSZ were formed in a post-collisional slab break-off process.
