Subway station platforms are vulnerable to flood damage. Thus, an investigation of inundation in subway platforms is required to ensure the safety of citizens against flooding. This study analyzed and validated the inundation characteristics and safety areas in a subway station model using experimental inundation depth measurements and numerical simulations. Then by using the simulation, the effects of increased inflow to water velocity and depth were analyzed, and its impact on human models was found by using risk assessments which included specific force ( M 0 ), Flood Hazard Degree (FD), Flood Intensity Factors (FIF), toppling velocity, and sliding velocity. The flood risk assessment analysis results show that assessments using M 0 could increase uncertainty by broadening the evaluation of risky areas compared to other indices. Also, the drag force applied to the human models was calculated using the simulations, which provided inundation risk values to people in subway stations. Objectives Methods Results Conclusion Due to the technical challenges associated with femoral reconstruction in total hip arthroplasty for patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), the exact indications for using femoral modular stems, despite their satisfactory clinical outcomes, remain poorly investigated. This study sought to assess the morphology of the femur and acetabulum, and to investigate the discriminative ability of femoral anteversion (FA), acetabular anteversion (AA), and combined anteversion (CA) on the selection of femoral modular stem in dysplastic hips.Retrospective data were collected from multiple centers on a total of 230 cases who underwent THA due to DDH from January 1, 2020, to March 1, 2023. There were 46 males and 184 females, with an average age of 51.57 ± 14.87. Patients were stratified according to Crowe and Eftekhar classifications. FA, AA, and CA were measured using computed tomography (CT). The distribution of these indices in different grades of dysplastic hips was compared, and the correlation between these indices and the selection of femoral modular stem was analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and likelihood statistics were performed to investigate the discriminating and predictive value of each index in selecting modular stem.Two hundred and thirty hips were included in the study. FA increased as the subluxation percentage increased: type I, 21.5°; type II, 28.6°; type III, 34.9°; and type IV, 39.7°. AA was smaller in type I (16.9°) and higher in types II, III, and IV (18.9–22.6°). The area under the curve for the modular stem was 0.87 for FA, 0.86 for CA, and 0.65 for AA. The optimal cutoff values were FA > 32.6°, CA > 50.7°, and AA > 23.3°.Excessive AA and femoral anteversion FA were observed in Crowe types II, III, and IV cases. FA and CA demonstrated strong discriminative ability and predictive value in the selection of a modular stem. The best cutoff values were ≥32.6° for FA and ≥50.7° for CA in discriminating the use of modular stem. This study presents the design and comprehensive 3D multiphysics simulation of a novel microfluidic immunosensor for non-invasive, real-time detection of pro-inflammatory biomarkers in human sweat. The patch-like device integrates magnetofluidic manipulation of antibody-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with direct-field capacitive sensing (DF-CS). This unique combination enhances sensitivity, reduces parasitic capacitance, and enables a more compact design compared to traditional fringing-field approaches. A comprehensive 3D multiphysics simulation of the device, performed using COMSOL Multiphysics, demonstrates its operating principle by analyzing the sensor's response to changes in the dielectric properties of the medium due to the presence of magnetic nanoparticles. The simulation reveals a sensitivity of 42.48% at 85% MNP occupancy within the detection zone, highlighting the sensor's ability to detect variations in MNP concentration, and thus indirectly infer biomarker levels, with high precision. This innovative integration of magnetofluidic manipulation and DF-CS offers a promising new paradigm for continuous, non-invasive health monitoring, with potential applications in point-of-care diagnostics, personalized medicine, and preventive healthcare. This paper examines the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) in training public speaking skills. The fear of public speaking (FPS) is a common problem that can have a significant impact on an individual's professional and personal life. Traditional therapies for public speaking anxiety have been shown to be effective, but there is growing interest in the use of VR as an alternative or supplement to these therapies. This study aims to investigate the VR medium in improving public speaking skills and to explore the potential mechanisms underlying this effect. A framework was developed with the aim to investigate the possibility of improving public speaking skills through VR. Key features of this framework include the ability to adjust the audience size and alter the dimensions of the room. Additionally, it allows for the modification of initial audience behaviors. One of the innovative aspects is the inclusion of an evolving attention span in the virtual audience, adding a dynamic element to the VR experience. The framework excels in tracking various metrics in real time and has the audience react dynamically based on them. These metrics include movement and voice parameters. The system is designed to present this data as immediate feedback to the user, but also as a summary after a presentation has concluded. After an extensive two-phased testing, the results are discussed. This article presents a simulation of a scoop inside the rotor of a gas centrifuge machine in three dimensions. The scoop inside the centrifuge machine is 3D and curved in shape. Therefore, a 3D simulation is necessary to analyze the proper flow behavior around the scoop. For this purpose, using the results of this simulation, the flow around the product and waste scoops has been investigated in three dimensions. As a result of simulation in the scoop area of the waste and product under operating conditions of pressure and temperature, it was observed that the values of these forces are directly related to the distance between the scoop and the wall, and the drag force values differ between these two areas. According to the investigations, the differences in drag force values between product and waste scoop areas can be explained by the effects of pressure, temperature, and velocity of gas molecules. There is a direct relationship between these effects and the coefficients of adaptation of momentum as well as the difference between the rotational velocity of the fluid around the scoop and the rotational velocity of the scoop per height (duѲ/dz).

Nowadays there are multiple ways to perceive music, from attending concerts (live) to listening to recorded music through headphones (medial). In between there are many mixed modes, such as playback performances. In empirical music research, this plurality of performance forms has so far found little recognition. Until now no measuring instrument has existed that could adequately capture the differences in perception and aesthetic judgment. The purpose of our empirical investigation was to capture all dimensions relevant to such an assessment. Using 3D-simulations and dynamic binaural synthesis, various live and medial situations were simulated. A qualitative survey was conducted at the Department of Audio Communication of the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin). With the help of the repertory grid technique, a data pool of approximately 400 attribute pairs was created and individual rating data were collected. Our first study served to create a semantic differential. In a second study, this semantic differential was evaluated. The development of the semantic differential was carried out by first using a mixed-method approach to qualitative analysis according to grounded theory. Thereafter, a principal component analysis reduced the attribute pairs to 67 items in four components. The semantic differential consists of items concerning acoustic, visual and audio-visual interaction as well as items with an overarching assessment of the stimuli. The evaluation study, comprising 45 participants (23 male and 22 female, M  =  42.56  years, SD  =  17.16) who rated 12 stimuli each, reduced the items to 61 and resulted in 18 subscales and nine single items. Because the survey used simulations, the social component may be underrepresented. Nevertheless, the questionnaire we created enables the evaluation of music performances (especially for classical concerts) in a new scope, thus opening many opportunities for further research. For example, in a live concert context, we observed not only that seating position influences the judgment of sound quality but also that visual elements influence immersion and felt affect. In the future, the differential could be reviewed for a larger stimulus pool, extended or used modularly for different research questions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The anterior transpetrosal approach (ATPA) is effective for reaching petroclival lesions, and it allows for complications such as impaired venous return and neuropathy to be resolved. However, there is still room for improvement regarding cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage. Here, we aim to focus on describing specific preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative countermeasures for preventing CSF leakage when using the ATPA. Methods: Eleven patients treated using the ATPA, who were treated at our hospital from June 2019 to February 2023, were included in this descriptive study. Preoperatively, we performed a 3D simulation of the opened air cells. Then, we classified patterns of dural closure into three types based on intradural manipulation and whether it involved opened air cells or not. Intraoperatively, we performed a dural closure that included the use of more-watertight sutures (DuraGen®) and an endoscope. Furthermore, temporal bone air cell volume measurements were performed to confirm the correlation between the volume and factors related to CSF leakage. Results: No postoperative CSF leakage was observed in any patient. The temporal bone air cell volumes significantly corelated with the air cells of the petrous apex, the high-risk tract in the petrous apex, and postoperative fluid collection in mastoid air cells. Conclusions: We have described countermeasures for preventing CSF leakage when using the ATPA. Preoperative simulations and the use of multiple-layered dural reconstructions with endoscopes could be considered more reliable methods for preventing CSF leakage when using the ATPA. With recent advances in semiconductor technology, conventional cooling methods and standard coolants are no longer adequate to manage electronic chips’ enormous heat generation. Therefore, innovative cooling solutions are required to maintain these devices at optimum operating temperatures. Taylor flow in microchannels is an effective technique that allows excellent mixing of two fluids, which is crucial for heat transfer. A 3D numerical analysis of the heat transfer performance of liquid-liquid Taylor flow in a rectangular microchannel was carried out by ANYSY Fluent. Water droplets were dispersed in either ethylene or propylene glycol, with the interface between the two fluids captured using the Volume of Fluid method. For optimal computational time, two symmetries in the XY and XZ planes are considered. Furthermore, mesh size refinement was performed in the near-wall region to capture the liquid film. An analysis of the effect of plug/slug length and liquid film thickness is conducted with initially constant thermo-physical properties. This assumption was considered to analyse the heat transfer process and determine the most critical parameter affecting heat transfer performance. A user-defined function is then implemented in ANSYS Fluent to examine the effect of working fluids temperature-dependent viscosity change on the heat transfer rate. Conjugate heat transfer and axial conduction are also examined, as these two factors can significantly affect the thermal behaviour inside the microchannel and enable the achievement of realistic and accurate results. The results reveal that Taylor liquid-liquid flow can increase the heat transfer rate by up to 440% over single-phase flow. It was also found that the temperature-dependent viscosity of the working fluids significantly affects the plug/slug length and liquid film thickness, resulting in a 20.8% improvement in heat transfer rate compared with constant thermo-physical properties. This study will improve the state of knowledge on heat transfer by Taylor flow in microchannels and factors that can influence it, and highlight the significance of this flow pattern in enhancing heat transfer performance over single-phase flow.

A cooperative intelligent transport system (C-ITS) enables information sharing among ITS subsystems, such as vehicle and roadside infrastructure, with vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. Novel C-ITS applications aim to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety. For example, a roadside unit (RSU) can sense the traffic status of an intersection and share the information to nearby vehicles to prevent potential collision, i.e., the intersection movement assist (IMA) scenario. Typically, C-ITS applications are developed in a simulated world to mitigate the high costs and safety hazards associated with the real-world counterpart. Unfortunately, existing simulation tools focus primarily on modeling vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, rather than the vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications involved in the above example. This poses a great challenge for developing V2I-based applications, especially for the application-level performance assessment on such systems. This work proposes a software framework that enables the simulation of full software stacks for the ITS subsystems, i.e., vehicle and RSU. This full-stack simulation capability enables hardware-in-the-loop simulations, evaluating the application-level performance and relative cost in the early stage of system development. This can shorten the time to market for C-ITS applications. We believe that this framework paves the way toward the development of novel V2I applications.

In this work, a new process for severe plastic deformation (SPD) with active friction forces - CCDB Conform R3D2, a variation of the so-called "active bending", which is a continuous two-stage bending in calibers with small relative bending radius, is analyzed. A mechanical scheme of a device for realization of the process with a bending roller is proposed, based on a developed 3D virtual tool for its realization. Using CAD/CAE software 3D simulation, two virtual solutions of the process were compared, differing in terms of the location of the bending roller relative to the axes of the feeding and output rolls. The distribution and magnitude of the effective strains in the volume of the deformed long workpiece in the two bending stages at small relative bending radiuses were analyzed. An analytical expression is developed to determine the effective strains achieved in the SPD operation by constrained continuous bending in calibers with grooved rolls. The strain calculation methodology is based on the results obtained by simulation modelling of the CCB Conform R3D2 process in trapezoidal calibers with a bending roller located above and below the rolls line.

In the event of a severe nuclear reactor accident, the radioactive fission products in the form of aerosols will be released in large quantities into the containment along with steam, hydrogen, and other gases. The transport and deposition of aerosols in the nuclear containment are significantly influenced by the thermal-hydraulic conditions of the containment. The development approach of a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code called GASFLOW is outlined, specifically tailored to analyze the thermal-hydraulics and behavior of aerosols in the containment during severe accidents. The Eulerian-Lagrangian approach enables the mass, momentum, and energy two-way coupling between the continuous gas and the dispersed particles. This approach is promising to model the behaviors of aerosols/droplets in 3D simulations of a full-scale nuclear containment. The particle group method is applied in the Lagrangian approach to track the particle trajectory. The ordinary differential equations, which couple the local heat and mass transfer between particles and the surrounding gas mixtures, are solved by the Runge-Kutta method. The GASFLOW aerosol analysis module is extensively validated by experiments, such as Gunn-Kinzer, Ranz-Marshall, CARAIDAS, and TOSQAN experiments, which respectively demonstrate good agreement with respect to each phenomenon: free-falling particles without heat and mass transfer, evaporation dynamics of an isolated stagnant droplet in dry air, the momentum and heat transfers of a single droplet under typical post-accident atmosphere conditions, and the gas mixing and depressurization in the containment by water spray. The validated program can accurately evaluate the three-dimensional distribution of aerosol transportation and deposition in the containment. The three-dimensional CFD analysis of aerosol behavior in the containment during a typical severe accident of a large advanced pressurized water reactor indicates that the CFD calculation time is acceptable and has good engineering practicality for large dry nuclear containment. The total deposited and suspended aerosol mass is in good agreement with the results predicted by the lumped parameter code MELCOR. The three-dimensional distribution of aerosols is influenced by the flow field, concentration field, and temperature field. Hygroscopic growth of aerosols is a key factor affecting the natural removal of aerosols. This aerosol analysis module in GASFLOW can be extended to study aerosol behavior in other complex thermal-hydraulic conditions, such as aerosol removal by containment spray and aerosol entrainment by intensive convection or hydrogen explosion.

Background: Foreign bodies may be deposited in the oral cavity either by traumatic injury or iatrogenic damage. Case Presentation: We describe a case of foreign body removal using a three‐dimensional reconstruction (3D) simulation application (ProPlan CMF™) involving a case of a 26‐year‐old male. The broken bur had been accidentally inserted when a lower wisdom tooth was extracted at a general dental office. The removal surgery was performed under preoperative simulation without complications (e.g., excessive bleeding and nerve paralysis). Abstract Background Genu valgum is considered to be a risk factor for patellar instability. Correction of valgus alone or combined with a tibial tuberosity medialization has been described. However, changes occurring in the tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance after a lateral distal femoral opening wedge osteotomy (LDF-OWO) are not known. Purpose This study aimed to define changes in TT-TG distance with increasing amounts of valgus correction after LDF-OWO. Methods Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography (3D-CT) scans of six patients (two females and four males) aged between 19 and 35 years with genu valgum and patellar instability were analyzed. 3D models of femoral, tibial, and patellar bones were created with the advanced segment option of Mimics 21® software. An oblique lateral opening wedge osteotomy of the distal femur was simulated in 2-degree increments up to 12 degrees of varus opening. This study presents the design and comprehensive 3D multiphysics simulation of a novel microfluidic immunosensor for non-invasive, real-time detection of pro-inflammatory biomarkers in human sweat. The patch-like device integrates magnetofluidic manipulation of antibody-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with direct-field capacitive sensing (DF-CS). This unique combination enhances sensitivity, reduces parasitic capacitance, and enables a more compact design compared to traditional fringing-field approaches. A comprehensive 3D multiphysics simulation of the device, performed using COMSOL Multiphysics, demonstrates its operating principle by analyzing the sensor’s response to changes in the dielectric properties of the medium due to the presence of magnetic nanoparticles. The simulation reveals a sensitivity of 42.48% at 85% MNP occupancy within the detection zone, highlighting the sensor’s ability to detect variations in MNP concentration, and thus indirectly infer biomarker levels, with high precision. This innovative integration of magnetofluidic manipulation and DF-CS offers a promising new paradigm for continuous, non-invasive health monitoring, with potential applications in point-of-care diagnostics, personalized medicine, and preventive healthcare.

Proppants are one of the key materials for hydraulic fracturing, whose main role is to support fractures and create a channel through which oil and gas can flow. The nature of proppants is the most talked about feature besides their cost, for example, their sphericity, turbidity, particle size, or strength. The porosity, permeability, and fracture conductivity of proppants in fractures are also the main indicators to measure the performance of them. These indicators are usually obtained through physical experiments. However, experimental results often differ depending on the experimental scheme. Different stacking methods of proppant particles lead to this phenomenon. The nature of proppant particles in fractures varies with the way they accumulate. This paper will start with the microscopic arrangement of proppant particles. Considering the randomness and certainty of three-dimensional particle stacking and arrangement, the Monte Carlo stochastic method and an optimization model were used to conduct three-dimensional computer simulation of proppant particles. This lays an important foundation for revealing the randomness and regularity of the micro arrangement of proppant particles.

This paper outlines the numerical modeling procedure aimed at defining the guidelines for the development of a continuous microwave-assisted pilot plant for shelled almond disinfestation, as an alternative to the use of chemicals. To this end, a 3D Multiphysics numerical tool involving both electromagnetic and thermal models was developed to predict the temperature and electric field profiles inside the microwave treatment chamber. Three different microwave sources arrangements were simulated and the accuracy of the model was verified under different residence times of almonds in the treatment chamber using the developed prototype. The modeling results demonstrated that the arrangement having five microwave sources, each delivering a maximum power of 1.5 kW and frequency of 2.45 GHz, ensures good heating uniformity. The obtained results proved that the model enables the accurate prediction of the temperature trend (root-mean-square error/RMSE = 0.82). A strong linear regression was detected for the standard deviation between the simulated and experimental data (linear regression, R2 = 0.91). The very low COV value for the experimental temperature data demonstrated the heating uniformity as the treatment time changed. The developed model and the simulation strategy used may provide useful design guidance for microwave-assisted continuous plants for disinfestation, with a significant impact on the almond industry.

In this paper, the effect of using trefoil and segmental baffles on heat transfer and pressure drop towards the shell of shell and tube heat exchangers is studied. Baffles are used in shell and tube heat exchangers to increase heat transfer coefficient, pipe support, flow pattern determination, structural strength and vibration prevention. Using the genetic algorithm under the same conditions, the heat transfer and pressure drop functions of the baffles are optimized as single-objective and multi-objective. The heat exchanger with the trefoil baffles is simulated by Aansys fluent software. The results show that in trefoil baffles, increasing the heat transfer coefficient will be accompanied by a greater pressure drop. The heat transfer capacity of the trefoil baffle has increased by 19.944% in the square arrangement and 16.25% in the triangle arrangement compared to the segmental baffle in the maximum state obtained from the single-objective genetic algorithm, while the pressure drop for the square arrangement of the tube bundle is 3.2 times and for the triangle arrangement tube bundle has increased 2.075 times compared to the segmental baffle. The jet fluid flow created in the trefoil perforated increase the heat transfer performance and the corrosion products and chemical sediments are reduced, which also improves the corrosion conditions of the shell and tube heat exchanger with the trefoil perforated plate. In order to alleviate the structural vibrations induced by traffic loads, in this paper, a phonon crystal plate with functionally graded materials is designed based on local resonance theory. The vibration damping performance of the phonon crystal plate is studied via finite element numerical simulation and the band gap is verified via vibration transmission response analysis. Finally, the engineering application mode is simulated to make it have practical engineering application value. The results show that the phonon crystal plate has two complete bandgaps within 0~150 Hz, the initial bandgap frequency is 0.00 Hz, the cut-off frequency is 128.32 Hz, and the internal ratio of 0~100 Hz is 94.13%, which can effectively reduce the structural vibration caused by traffic loads. Finally, stress analysis of the phonon crystal plate is carried out. The results show that phonon crystals of functionally graded materials can reduce stress concentration through adjusting the band gap. The phonon crystal plate designed in this paper can effectively suppress the structural vibration caused by traffic loads, provides a new method for the vibration reduction of traffic infrastructure, and can be applied to the vibration reduction of bridges and their auxiliary facilities. Garment simulation enables the reduction of physical prototypes, saving time, material and costs. Complete elimination of physical prototypes is not yet possible because simulation is not reliable enough for a robust fit analysis. In addition, predictions of the textile-physical behaviour of virtually available materials would be useful. A new approach is being developed to represent the material and construction properties of textile surfaces, their correlations and their influence on the simulation. Based on the material parameters, conditions for a reliable simulation and prediction of the material behaviour can be derived. Convective heat transfer of laminar forced convection in a wavy channel is studied in this paper. Numerical simulations of the 3D steady flow of Newtonian fluid and heat transfer characteristics are obtained by the finite element method. The effects of the Reynolds number (10 ≤Re≤1000), number of oscillations (0 ≤N≤5) and amplitude of the wall (0.05 ≤A≤0.2) on the heat transfer have been analyzed. The results show that the average Nusselt number is elevated as the Reynolds number is raised, showing high intensity of heat transfer, as a result of the intensified effects of the inertial and zones of recirculation close to the hot wavy wall. The rate of heat transfer increases about 0.28% with the rise of the number of oscillations. In the transfer of heat along a wavy surface, the number of oscillations and the wave amplitude are important factors. With an increment in the number of oscillations, the maximal value of the average velocity is elevated, and its minimal value occurs when the channel walls are straight. The impact of the wall amplitude on the average Nusselt number and dimensionless temperature tends to be stronger compared to the impact of the number of oscillations. An increase of the wall amplitude improves the rate of heat transfer about 0.91% when the Reynolds number is equal 100. In addition, when the Reynolds number is equal 500, the rate of heat transfer grows about 1.1% with the rising of the wall amplitude.

Problem. The T-156B hinge frame of the loader, which is an upgraded frame of an agricultural tractor, creates loads during work operations for which it was not designed. Such loads lead to breakdowns and further shorten the life of the entire machine. The frame is the basic element around which the machine is built. The loader that had just been removed from the conveyor did not have builtin durability and reliability. While designing a road construction machine, an account of the features, nature, and conditions of its operation should be taken. Goal. The goal is to develop a hinge frame design technique that takes into account the loads experienced by the frame with a virtual simulation of real-world situations during the loader process. Methodology. The adopted approach is based on the use of a Solidworks computer program with three-dimensional modeling and an Ansys motion program for calculating the dynamics of multicomponent bodies taking into account the hinge and contact interaction. Results. In the work three cases of technological operations of the loader were considered. 1. Lifting a full bucket. 2. Collision with an obstacle that is difficult to overcome 3. Movement over an uneven surface with the raised loader arm. The results of the calculations provided forces and torques in the hinge of the half-frames, as well as the effort of the frame. Based on the results obtained, the endurance of the frame in the Ansys motion software package was calculated. Originality. The analysis of load-bearing systems with a virtual simulation of the machine’s actual behavior with the help of Ansys motion software allows to obtain more accurate results, significantly reducing the time for the design and cost of field testing. Practical value. This approach to the analysis of the carrier system behavior can be recommended for designing and determining the technological capabilities of wheeled, tracked, and special machines.

Present investigation, effect of different forms of rectangular fins on melting performance of a vertical enclosure filled by with phase change material (PCM) was examined. Three individual fins were used instead of unit fin. The heat transfer surface was kept constant. The effect of location of fins as well as effect of length of fins and the distance of fins were considered as variant parameters. Firstly, placement of fins at lower half and upper half was examined. Secondly, effect of length of fins were examined. Finally, effect of vertical distance of fins was evaluated. Results presented that optimum melting efficiency was achieved when two of the three fins were placed in lower half. Through first step, case one, provided best performance which presented up to 23 percent improvement in overall melting time. At second step, case 10 had best performance and provided 30% improvement in melting time. Finally, at third step, case 13 had best melting performance. In this case, two of fins were positioned on lower half. lower and upper fins had the length of 40.5 and 10 mm. It is noteworthy that case 13 provided up 39% saved time for melting process in comparison with base case.

Phase change materials have wide applications as thermal energy storage systems. Due to the low thermal conductivity of these materials, lots of efforts have been made to increase the thermal conductivity and efficiency of thermal energy storage systems. In this numerical study, convective and radiation heat transfer on a cavity with transparent inner walls have been investigated considering the effects of buoyancy force and viscosity of phase change materials. For this purpose, computational fluid dynamics that have high accuracy in calculations have been used. The considered wall is made of brick, in which the cavity containing phase change materials is included and layers of cement and plaster are placed on the wall. The results indicate that increasing the heat flux increases the effects of convective heat transfer. In addition, by applying radiation effects, the melting process of paraffin materials increases by 31%. Due to the transparency of the inner walls of the cavity, the radiation process occurred surface to surface. Therefore, with increasing amount of molten material, the radiation effects increase, the reason for this is that RT24 material is more transparent in liquid form than solid material. Also, increasing the heat flux from 50 to 100 and 300 (w/m2) increases the speed of the melting process by 19.3% and 27.2%, respectively.

For a holistic assessment of the interaction between the human body and tight fitted clothing, it is necessary to consider the mechanical properties of the body. Default avatars in CAD software are usually solid and do not take this interaction into account. For this purpose, a solid avatar is converted to a deformable one by using the soft body physics implementation in the simulation program Blender. The fit of a 3D garment on both avatars are compared, which allows a first evaluation of the differences between these approaches.

Aiming at the problems of strength and fatigue of super-reduction ratio hypoid gears， a calculation of the gear blank parameters is completed， a three-dimensional assembly model is established， and a finite element simulation is carried out on the super-reduction ratio hypoid gears； a calculation method for calculating the design parameters of the pinion from the design parameters of the large gear is derived， and the corresponding pinion and large gear tooth blanks can be calculated. Using the large gear and pinion tooth surface equations， the coordinates of the discrete points on the tooth surface are calculated in Matlab and imported into SolidWorks to realize the three-dimensional modeling of super-reduction ratio hypoid gears， and then import the model into Ansys workbench for finite element simulation； the simulation results show that the rotation speed， reverse torque and gear tooth root parts are processed with different tip fillets， which will affect the minimum fatigue life of the super-reduction ratio hypoid gears.

Finding the distribution of the velocities and pressures of a fluid by solving the Navier–Stokes equations is a principal task in the chemical, energy, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in mechanical engineering and in design of pipeline systems. With existing solvers, such as OpenFOAM and Ansys, simulations of fluid dynamics in intricate geometries are computationally expensive and require re-simulation whenever the geometric parameters or the initial and boundary conditions are altered. Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) are a promising tool for simulating fluid flows in complex geometries, as they can adapt to changes in the geometry and mesh definitions, allowing for generalization across fluid parameters and transfer learning across different shapes. We present a hybrid quantum PINN (HQPINN) that simulates laminar fluid flow in 3D Y -shaped mixers. Our approach combines the expressive power of a quantum model with the flexibility of a PINN, resulting in a 21% higher accuracy compared to a purely classical neural network. Our findings highlight the potential of machine learning approaches, and in particular HQPINN, for complex shape optimization tasks in computational fluid dynamics. By improving the accuracy of fluid simulations in complex geometries, our research using hybrid quantum models contributes to the development of more efficient and reliable fluid dynamics solvers.

Kampong Tridi and Warna-Warni are two small communities in Malang, Indonesia, which have started efforts to realize a sustainable environment within a broader national movement to eliminate slum areas. Colourful artwork and painted murals have made them popular tourist spots that attract 150 tourists per day on average, which helps boost the local economy. However, both kampongs are still lacking sanitation service. Blackwater and greywater generated from inhabitants’ activities are directly dumped into the Brantas River, negatively impacting water quality. A workshop was organized to increase the participants’ awareness of environmental issues, particularly in water resource sustainability, and obtain a commitment to adopt constructed wetlands as sustainable, nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment. Two types of the questionnaire (pretest and posttest) were distributed to 50 participants to identify perception differences generated through the workshop. A digital game and a 3D simulation were developed to educate the participants on constructed wetlands as wastewater treatment systems in fun, attractive, and effective ways. Participants’ awareness of environmental issues in water resources increased from 67% to 76%, and the workshop had motivated the participants to adopt constructed wetlands in their neighbourhood.

Abstract Minimally invasive surgery is an important technique used for cytopathological examination. Recently, multiple studies have been conducted on a three-dimensional (3D) puncture simulation model as it can reveal the internal deformation state of the tissue at the micro level. In this study, a viscoelastic constitutive equation suitable for muscle tissue was derived. Additionally, a method was developed to define the fracture characteristics of muscle tissue material during the simulation process. The fracture of the muscle tissue in contact with the puncture needle was simulated using the cohesive zone model and a 3D puncture finite element model was established to analyze the deformation of the muscle tissue. The stress nephogram and reaction force under different parameters were compared and analyzed to study the deformation of the biological soft tissue and guide the actual operation process and reduce pain.

The construction features of waist support products depend on current fashion trends, the specific requirements imposed on the products by potential wearers and the characteristics of the materials used and of course the methodology for developing the basic construction. In the case of people with lower limb amputations, the construction also depends on the type of prosthesis and its size. The paper presents the results of the study to optimize the construction of trousers for men with amputations in the leg. The topicality of the theme is determined by the alarming increase in the number of amputations and the increased interest of specialists in creating clothing for people with disabilities. The paper aims to identify the methodology for improving the construction of the product of trousers for people with amputations of the lower limbs, using 3D simulation. The general objective of this paper is to propose a succession of optimization of the basic pattern in order to be able to be customized according to the type of amputation. The paper presents the initial data necessary in the elaboration of a customized construction. Also presented are the stages of optimizing the construction of the pants and the simulations on the body of the avatar of the pattern, even after performing the optimization. The use of 3D software allows obtaining the wearer's avatar and assigning unique features, which are taken into account when designing custom clothing products. They also allow you to check the position of the products on the body of the avatar and modify them according to the requirements.

With the development of aviation agricultural technology, the number of farmers adopting the use of drones in daily agricultural activities is growing rapidly in recent decades. Among these, a large portion constitutes agricultural drones being used in pest control and crop protection practices, e.g. agriculture spraying of pesticides. Spraying pesticides with drones have proven to be faster than other traditional methods. On the downside, flight time and range of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are often limited. Thus, a proper arrangement of flight height and velocity will greatly improve spraying efficiency. A new strategy to optimize the flight parameters, i.e. flight height and flight velocity, for fixed-wing UAV with a 3D simulation-based approach together with an automatic optimization algorithm was proposed in this study. To find the optimal parameters for a UAV to fly and spray under certain environmental conditions, a three-dimensional model of the target crop was established first, followed by a detailed simulation of droplet spraying. As a demonstration case, a grass model was developed and used as the target plant, and a physics-based method was used to simulate realistically the movement of the droplets in the air as well as the interaction between the droplets and the plant to obtain the droplet deposition rate under the specified operating parameters. Furthermore, the standard Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm was used to optimize the UAV operating parameters to obtain the best operating parameters. The results indicate that using the standard PSO algorithm to optimize the operating parameters of the drone could significantly improve the deposition rate and find the best operating parameters. In this paper, we propose a robust and high-fidelity 3D face reconstruction method that uses multiple depth cameras. This method automatically reconstructs high-quality 3D face models from aligned RGB-D image pairs using multi-view consumer-grade depth cameras. To this end, we mainly analyze the problems in existing traditional and classical multi-view 3D face reconstruction systems and propose targeted improvement strategies for the issues related. In particular, we propose a fast two-stage point cloud filtering method that combines coarse filtering and fine filtering to rapidly extract the reconstructed subject point cloud with high purity. Meanwhile, in order to improve the integrity and accuracy of the point cloud for reconstruction, we propose a depth data restoration and optimization method based on the joint space–time domain. In addition, we also propose a method of multi-view texture alignment for the final texture fusion session that is more conducive for fusing face textures with better uniformity and visual performance. The above-proposed methods are reproducible and can be extended to the 3D reconstruction of any subject. Drilling is often employed when using carbon fiber–reinforced polymers (CRFPs) to fabricate machine parts. However, CFRP drilling is compromised by uncut fibers and delamination of the final layers of fiber sheets, reducing the quality and strength of the product, increasing fatigue around drilled holes, and rendering product assembly difficult. We used a mathematical model to analyze drilling behaviors at the critical cutting angles 0 < φ ≤ Υ 0 +π/2 and Υ 0 +π/2 < φ. We used the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory to derive the maximum lengths of uncut fibers; these were determined by reference to half of the maximum deflection of a simply supported beam. Critical cutting angles were calculated by evaluating the hogging and sagging of a cantilever beam after fracture of a maximally deflected single fiber. These analyses were used to validate the experimental data obtained under various machining conditions, employing two tools to drill three different types of multidirectional CFRP sheets. Predictions were derived using an analytical Dexel model that employs self-generating 3D software. During simulation, the drilling tools were moved using NC-code kinematics, or manually, in the X, Y, and Z directions. The model errors for the experimental results were 2–12% in terms of the maximum uncut fiber length. The escape of pedestrians in the subway station is hampered by floods created by heavy rain. In order to explore the critical flood level in a subway station so that pedestrians can escape safely, the case study of the Mingxiu Road subway station in Nanning, China, was conducted using numerical simulation techniques. In total, 30 groups of sample pedestrians with different walking speeds and numbers were randomly generated by the Monte Carlo method, and 3D simulation software was used for escape simulation. The simulated escape data were put into the SVM model, and the maximum pedestrian capacity and minimum speed of pedestrians were solved successfully with different conditions of the Mingxiu Road subway station. Then, a 1:1 contour model of the pedestrian was constructed to simulate the flood resistance of the pedestrian escaping at the minimum speed. The flood resistance and the friction force between the pedestrian and the ground were compared to calculate the critical escape flood level height, and the critical escape flood level height of an adult, child, and elder was 87.4 cm,75.5 cm, and 83.0 cm, respectively. Numerical study of various physical phenomena in three dimensions has become a necessity to better understand the physical process than in two dimensions. Thus, in this paper, the code is elaborated to be adapted to the simulation of heat transfer in three dimensions. The numerical simulations are performed using a hybrid method. This method is based on the lattice Boltzmann approach for the computation of velocities, and on the finite difference technique for the calculation of temperature. The used numerical code is validated by examining the free convection in a cubic enclosure filled with air. Then, the analysis of the heat exchange between two cold vertical walls and a heated block located at the center of a cubic cavity is considered. The performed simulations showed that for a small value of the Rayleigh number (Ra=10³ for example), the fluid exchanges its heat almost equally with all hot surfaces of the obstacle. However, for large values of Ra (Ra≥104), the numerical results found showed that the heat exchange rate is greater on the bottom face compared to the other faces of the obstacle. Abstract Aim To evaluate the correspondence between the interproximal reduction (IPR) performed clinically and that programmed in ClinCheck® and further assess which teeth showed an amount of implemented IPR (I-IPR) that corresponds with that programmed in ClinCheck®. Materials and methods Pre- (T0) and post-treatment (T1) ClinCheck® digital models for 75 subjects (30 males and 45 females), mean age (38 ± 15) years, were included. To calculate the amount of I-IPR, Ortho Analyzer software (3Shape, Copenhagen, Denmark) was used to measure the mesiodistal widths for the maxillary and mandibular teeth from second premolar to the contralateral second premolar on the initial (T0) and final (T1) STL models. I- IPR performed by tooth was obtained by comparing the mesiodistal width of each tooth at T0 and T1. In high-frequency electronic equipment and power electronic devices, the dynamic performance of switching devices is one of the important indicators, and a double-pulse test circuit is usually used to test the dynamic performance of switching devices. In order to reduce the stray inductance existing in the test circuit, a double-pulse test circuit structure based on PCB is firstly proposed, and then the basic principle of using the integral calculation method to extract the PCB stray inductance is analyzed. Then the 3D model of the PCB is established, and the PCB stray inductance extraction based on 3D simulation is completed. Finally, a 1200V/100A double-pulse test experimental platform is built. By comparing the three-dimensional simulation results with the numerical calculation results using the integral method under the double-pulse test experiment, the accuracy and effectiveness of the three-dimensional simulation method proposed in this paper are verified.

As one essential indicator of surface integrity, residual stress has an important influence on the fatigue performance of aero engines' thin-walled parts. Larger compressive or smaller tensile residual stress is more prone to causing fatigue cracks. To optimize the state of residual stress, the relationship between the surface residual stress and the machining conditions is studied in this work. A radial basis function (RBF) neural network model based on simulated and experimental data is developed to predict the surface residual stress for multi-axis milling of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. Firstly, a 3D numerical model is established and verified through a cutting experiment. These results are found to be in good agreement with average absolute errors of 11.6% and 15.2% in the σx and σy directions, respectively. Then, the RBF neural network is introduced to relate the machining parameters with the surface residual stress using simulated and experimental samples. A good correlation is observed between the experimental and the predicted results. The verification shows that the average prediction error rate is 14.4% in the σx direction and 17.2% in the σy direction. The effects of the inclination angle, cutting speed, and feed rate on the surface residual stress are investigated. The results show that the influence of machining parameters on surface residual stress is nonlinear. The proposed model provides guidance for the control of residual stress in the precision machining of complex thin-walled structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
