In this article, a comprehensive review is presented of recent technological advancements utilizing electromagnetic sensors in the microwave range for detecting human vital signs and lung water levels. With the main objective of improving detection accuracy and system robustness, numerous advancements in front-end architecture, detection techniques, and system-level integration have been reported. The benefits of non-contact vital sign detection have garnered significant interest across a range of applications, including healthcare monitoring and search and rescue operations. Moreover, some integrated circuits and portable systems have lately been shown off. A comparative examination of various system architectures, baseband signal processing methods, system-level integration strategies, and possible applications are included in this article. Going forward, researchers will continue to focus on integrating radar chips to achieve compact form factors and employ advanced signal processing methods to further enhance detection accuracy. This article presents a groundbreaking approach to osteoporosis detection and monitoring by integrating a new wearable monopole antenna design with advanced machine learning algorithm (neural network). Inspired by the intricate pattern of a Christmas snowflake, the system utilizes UWB electromagnetic waves and bone attenuation analysis for compact, noninvasive, and highly accurate bone health assessment. Fabricated entirely from textile materials, the antenna features remarkable performance metrics, including an impedance bandwidth of 4.9 to 12.6 GHz and a reflection coefficient consistently below −10 dB, within a compact form factor of 41.9 mm × 29.2 mm. Experimental validation and comparative studies demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in precisely classifying osteoporosis levels, achieving an outstanding accuracy rate of 87%. This study signifies a significant advancement in osteoporosis detection and diagnosis, combining state-of-the-art antenna technology with advanced machine learning techniques. The developed system holds promise for early detection and personalized monitoring of osteoporosis, contributing to improved healthcare outcomes and enhanced quality of life for individuals at risk of bone-related diseases. UWB antenna is a crucial part of any UWB system required for indoor application. In this paper, a novel design is presented, which relies on self-complementary structure. The structure is fed by a microstrip line, where a triangular notch is embedded in the ground plane. The design in this paper yields a UWB bandwidth that extends from 2.86.0-40.0 GHz. To ensure coexistence of UWB with WLAN applications (5.15-5.825 GHz) with minimal interference, a frequency notch is introduced using two parasitic U-shaped elements embracing the microstrip feeding line that resonates in the vicinity of the band notch frequency band. The proposed design was subject to parametric study to reach optimum parameters. This paper exhibits a high-gain, low-profile dipole antenna array (DAA) for 5G applications. The dipole element has a semi-triangular shape to realize a simple input impedance regime. To reduce the overall antenna size, a substrate integrated cavity (SIC) is adopted as a power splitter feeding network. The transition between the SIC and the antenna element is achieved by a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to increase the degree of freedom of impedance matching. Epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) metamaterial technique is exploited for gain enhancement. The ENZ metamaterial unit cells of meander shape are placed in front of each dipole perpendicularly to guide the radiated power into the broadside direction. The prospective antenna has an overall size of 2.58 λ g 3 and operates from 28.5 GHz up to 30.5 GHz. The gain is improved by 5 dB compared to that of the antenna without ENZ unit cells, reaching 11 dBi at the center frequency of 29.5 GHz. Measured and simulated results show a reasonable agreement.
